Awesome food! Quaint location. Went here on a tip from my sis and bro-in-law. Also got some pointers from my fellow yelpers about what to order. Hubby had the Shemp burger; he said the guacamole was the definite clincher. I could tell. He scarfed it down in about 2 minutes flat! I tried the famous Mac-coconut shrimp plate. Dayam!!! I have never come across any shrimp that I loved more than these ones, which is really saying a lot since I don't even like shrimp!!! Weird! Anyway, they were accompanied by a pile of steamed white rice and a side salad. Even the salad was good! Dipping sauce for the shrimp reminded me of the sweet and sour sauce we filipinos use for our lumpias so of course, it went perfectly with the crispy, golden-fried shrimp. Nonetheless, we had 2 awesome plates of food. We'll definitely come back again whenever we hit up the North Shore on our future visits.
After my Yelp review, I was contacted by the folks at Kahuku Grill and they wanted to apologize for my meal. Props for the follow-up! I'll be sure to stop by again when I'm in the North Shore area (maybe in May).

Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck

Reviews:
This was my first shrimp truck so I don't have a comparison. I had the #1 Shrimp Scampi. The plate was quite full with delicious shrimp that were well cleaned and seasoned. It's served with two scoops of rice that were all pleasing. My husband is not a shrimp lover so he had the hot dog served on a bun. He liked it and wished he had ordered two. It seemed to be the place to be. The covered seating area was full most of the time. It was fun to add our names in Sharpie to those all over the food truck. Great experience!
Giovanni's is my favorite "North Shore Shrimp Truck" out of all the shrimp trucks on the north shore. Giovanni's never fails to disappoint me. There are two trucks. This one is in Kahuku; a couple blocks away from Kahuku high school. I love Giovanni's because of the very Saucy, Wet Garlic flavor versus Romi's dry, charred garlic flavor. So if you're more into the creamy saucy type of scampi, Giovanni's is for you. I always order the shrimp scampi and it never disappoints. The spicy is really spicy, but I'm a baby when it comes to spice. The spicy flavor is more of a Tabasco spicy flavor. I could only dip a couple of my shrimps into the sauce VERY lightly. I THINK if you check in on yelp, you get a free soda. So check in, show it to them and ask. Doesn't hurt to ask. The plus about this location is that there are bathrooms. Not the most glorious, but if you gotta go, you gotta go. Also, there is a hand washing sink - another plus. Overall, Giovanni's is the best shrimp truck, ever.
Note: I only give out 5 stars to surprisingly EXCEPTIONAL, best-in-class establishments. This is a tourist must-stop location if you're staying or visiting the immediate area, O'ahu's North Shore. Be prepared for potentially longer lines during busy hours & especially during the summer. There aren't many tables if you're planning to eat in, so if you arrive with a group it's best to have someone get a table while the others wait in line. The menu is simple; you have 4 choices: 1. shrimp scampi 2. hot & spicy shrimp 3. lemon butter shrimp 4. garlic hot dog That's it. You can also order extra rice, homemade Hawaiian-style mac salad & a limited selection of canned soft drinks or juice. Don't be one of "those" tourists that the locals tease and other tourists hate. Decide while waiting, place your order & pay (cash, no credit cards). The end--so simple! Hawaiian Island X-treme smoothie & shave ice truck is next to this Giovanni's truck, so you can order a cool drink there if you don't want one of Giovanni's canned drink selections.

"Giovanni's tasted better ... " *cringe* "Don't understand what the hype of this place is about." *double cringe* To all of you people who had a bad experience @ Romy's and believe that Giovanni's is superior to them: YES, YOU ARE RIGHT! DON'T COME HERE ANYMORE AND GO EAT THERE! (that way, you'll take up less space in line da next time I hit up Romy's. Tee-hee-hee-haw-haw-haw!) Giovanni's probably tastes better because maybe you've eaten the same shrimp from somewhere else? Maybe da kine frozen ones you purchase from the supermarket or Costco? FYI: A recent news story reported that some of the North Shore shrimp trucks buy their shrimp from overseas, while others refused to divulge their sources. Romy's can actually claim theirs are fresh because they own one of the last profitable farms for "consumer shrimp & prawns." (Source: kitv.com/money/24779105/… ) Romy's is the ONLY shrimp truck who can claim that they farm their own shrimp/prawns! Right in da back of dat wooden shack where you order your food! Go take a look if you no believe me. I absolutely love and adore Romy's because they can guarantee their product is fresh, and their butter sauce is to die for!! When da BF & I get our orders, we grind 'em plenny, but we ration the garlic butter sauce & save it .... dat way, we can come home, make a fresh pot of fresh rice, and pour the leftover sauce all over it! So ghetto, but das how ono (delicious) dis stuff is! :D Look, if you're gonna vacation in Hawai'i/on O'ahu, why would you wanna waste gas and 2-3 hours worth of time driving from your hotel in Waikiki to go eat shrimp at a place that had it imported in from Asia? Or purchased it frozen from a food supplier? You can go eat da same thing back home at Sizzler's! Or, at shrimp trucks located in Honolulu that are WAY closer than Giovanni's. I'd rather eat at a place that grows and harvest THEIR OWN SHRIMP/PRAWNS because that's as fresh as it gets, folks. They can guarantee the quality of their product. It makes a difference --- think the difference between sashimi caught off of Hawai'i waters vs. something frozen & brought in from Southeast Asia. Which one would you rather have? Yah, da line is long, but just remember to bring along a book, magazine, Nintendo DS, a smartphone, a chatty friend, or whatever else it'll take to occupy your attention until you're served. Romy's no ka oi! (Romy's is the best!)
Nothing special. Not worth the wait. We were starving for lunch and skipped a few other places with no lines to come here. Was a little disappointed about the price and when the meal finally arrived after 45 minutes even more disappointed. There's no secret sauce here butter garlic or shrimp scampi its all the same. Save time and move on the next truck spot your stomach will not regret it!
This is my 3rd time at Romy's and for me personally, my last. I had the fried for the first time, trying to decrease the messiness. My shrimp were not cleaned. Gross! I had to deconstruct and try to clean them. Once again, gross! They were overcooked and my corn was undercooked. I just don't like shrimp that much.

Fast service, easy to order, prompt service!
Its there when you want it, just call ahead. delivered with a smile. they have my preferred options
Fast and efficient. The late night (after 10) food is from the Grille downstairs and instead of having to worry about clearing a spot to eat (if every surface in your hotel room is covered with wet clothes, maps and sunblock like mine is) they wheel in a table to place at the foot of your bed instead of just a tray. Prices are steep but it's room service and options at this resort after 10 are quite limited. We ordered a pizza, salad and chicken wings (wanted to pig out on junk food) and it was quite good, more gourmet and less junky and the portions were not skimpy like most room service meals are. It's all presented quite nicely and the staff that brought it all was friendly and got in and out in a timely manner (no chit chatting while I try to not feel awkward in my pajamas). I also liked the options for having room service prepare a picnic basket for you during the day should you want to venture out to some of the other beaches on the island and not have to worry about leaving your lazy beach slumber to go find food. I didn't utilize this service (50$ for two sandwiches and salad and fruit seemed a bit much for someone who wanted to explore what the island had to offer) but it seemed like all your food needs were covered here should you want to venture out or stay in and have a romantic candlelight dinner with champagne. Or just pig out on carbs like we did.
