I've been coming here ever since I was 5 years old. The food has been consistent time and time again! Convenient location, affordable and most of all...really really awesome! Whether you're ordering from the steam table or menu, don't matter it's a win-win situation. My favorite!

Never knew Hawaii's Chinese food was different from the mainland till I left for college and ordered lemon chicken for the first time. Hawaii style is a super crispy and light cornstarch batter, similar to katsu with a pretty thin lemon sauce. Everywhere else seems to be thick almost pancake batter w a nasty looking goopy lemon sauce - usually it's their sweet and sour chicken w different sauce. Cake noodle as we know it also seems to be a regional thing. There's one Hawaii style Chinese place in Vegas with really good gau gee mein cake noodle but their lemon chicken is nothing compared to leungs. Plate lunch at leungs is always one of my first stops in Hilo. All the food is good, but I've always been obsessed w their lemon chicken. Unfortunately their manapua and pork hash isn't nearly as good as it used to be. Ever since 711 switched to this different crappy brand a few years ago ive been looking for another good manapua place - any suggestions would be appreciated.

As to economy of scale, Sum Leung gives you a generous and tasty portion of food, considering that for 8 bucks the steam table haul is half and half (fried rice and noodles) and 2 choices. My favs are the lemon chicken (so crispy), eggplant and the tomato beef. Service is fast and efficient. No frills, just good workman style food that will give you calories at lunch to preserver for the rest of the work day.

stopped in for dinner take out and the girl behind the counter at first ignored me as she took a phone order first. As I waited for her to finish, I checked an email on my phone, when she came over and I did not notice her, so the girl said "Sir?" No Hi, or may I help you etc. I placed my order and she made it. nothing special. Ive had better service elsewhere. Food was okay. Ive had better.

Good size servings, quick service, and cheap prices. Standard chinese take out format with a steam table. Grew up eating the pork tofu, baby corn, and char siu. The rice and noodles are well made and consistent in taste and texture. Great stop for lunch or a quick dinner.

Too much MSG and got food poisoning. This place is filthy and crawling with roaches.

When we're tired of cooking, my family likes to get take-out plates here after shopping at KTA. The 3-choice plate is big enough for 2 people, our favorites include the egg fu young, roast port, pork adobo & lemon chicken. On rainy days, the wor ton mein is a great value too! Sometimes the line can look long but typically moves fairly quickly. Better to call in for take-outs during peak hours. They close too early though - mainly to catch the just-finished work folks I guess. Looks like a "hole in the wall" place - nothing fancy, but good portions. This small family-operated place has been around for ages - workers have been with them for many years.

Won ton mein. Holy smokes. My husband, who's family lives in Honomu, brought me to this place just because it happened to be close to where we were snorkeling, and he remembered liking it. It's nothing fancy to look at, located in what's basically a strip mall, but I ended up ADDICTED. We were in Hawaii for a total of 12 days, and I made him bring me back for the won ton mein no less than five times. They also have excellent manapua. I can't vouch for any of the other items, since I love the won ton mein too much to order anything else, but I can vouch for the good prices and the large portions.

Good lemon chicken, young corn and pork eggplant. Decent prices and large-enough servings.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city.
