They serve Japanese, Korean and American food. Came here a few times before and I thought it was okay. The prices are expensive, quality of food ain't that great. You'd be better off going to Miyo's!! . I remember getting the Spicy Pork, that was horrible. The service is really slow. Here's a real life experience. My cousins came to visit from California and Philadelphia. It was a Sunday, majority of restaurants are closed and wanted to bring them somewhere to eat so we came here. For a Sunday it was packed, so they brought us into the bar section to have lunch. That area was so dark I couldn't even see my own face. We waited almost a half our to get water, table setting, and menus. It took another 15 minutes for the server to actually get to our table and get our orders. I was so pissed! Everyone ordered and when the server asked what I was getting, I simply said, "I'm not getting anything, it might take you guys 1 hour to make my food!" After I said that, I left and went outside to cool off. Aaaand I was right, it took them a long time for my wife and cousins to get their food. Full of shame....

In my opinion Restaurant Osaka is the best place to eat Japanese food in Hilo. They have a good selection on there menu for everyone in the family. I like to order the combination plate where you can have 2-3 choices from the menu. It comes with miso soup, rice, and mac or green salad. You can choose from Shrimp tempura, chicken katsu, miso butterfish, tonkatsu, teriyaki beef, bbq chicken, fresh fish, etc. I like to get the miso butterfish and teriyaki beef combo. They give a generous portion and the food taste really good. I sometimes opt to get the shrimp tempura on the combo plate, where the tempura is always cooked perfectly! Two pieces of shrimp, fish, eggplant, and carrot tempura. I think that they make the best beef teriyaki that I have ever had. The beef is tender and they have a teri sauce that compliments the beef. They also have Korean and American food on the menu. We always order a side of mandoo for an appetizer. You can order it by the piece. No need for reservations as they have ample seating, unless you have a large group. Parking is a private lot directly in front of the restaurant. The restaurant is located on Kanoelehua Ave near Big Island Toyota. They are open for lunch and dinner until 9 p.m. Good food, fair prices, with great service!

This is a nice little place that serves both Japanese and Korean food. My friend and I were craving Korean food so we ordered the hot stone bibimbap and the kim chee tofu soup. Both were equally delicious. Their sides were good also, but they are not unlimited. It was a bit pricey, but their food made it worth it. They had good customer service also.

Been coming here since hanabatta days I absolutely love this place. It isn't the greatest quality of food but you get what you pay for an it still tastes good. The service here is great lots of aloha. We had a large group where we were waiting for a couple people. The waitress continued to come around for our drink needs but not hovering. I enjoyed our dinner here like I always do. Great people, good food.

Family fave! We must eat at Osaka at least four times a month, usually for lunch. Their Japanese entrees are awesome! I haven't had anything I didn't like. I've enjoyed a few of their Korean entrees, as well, and have concluded that they must ALL be good. Fairly often, I order a Fish or Club Sandwich, both great. My kids love the Saimin, Chicken Katsu, or Fish Sandwich. If you want a nicely-portioned, tasty meal, dine in at Osaka. One tip: the service is slow, even when the restaurant is not busy... most times we have to leave our table to request for our bill 20 minutes after our last bite.

We came here our first night in hilo. We arrived after a 5hr layover in honolulu and a long drive down hwy 137 and back through hwy 130. We arrived at Osaka tired and hungry. Hubby ordered the fried seafood plate and I ordered the nabeyaki udon. The seafood plate was ok. The nabeyaki udon was comforting, but perhaps that was due to our long journey. The udon was really good, al dente and not soggy. But the chicken was dry and had a funky taste, which is odd with dark meat. Also, it was overloaded with bean sprouts and bamboo shoot. The soup was good, but a bit too sweet. I'm sure their korean dishes would have been much better.

I've always wanted to try this place out. It looks like a total dive from the outside. I actually thought it was a Korean bar not an actual restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised. The menu is huge with lots of variety and reasonably priced. I love that they have a Korean menu. The miso and kim chee were yummy. I had the hot pot with meat, veggies, an egg and rice (#12 I think). It was delicious. Lots of fresh veggies and the rice got a little crunchy because of the hot pot. It was large too. I couldn't finish it and had great leftovers. Meat was perfectly seasoned and not fatty at all. I also sampled the kimchee fried rice. Good flavor. The pork was yummy too. Didn't sample the hot and spicy pork or the beef tofu but both of my friends really enjoyed their meals. Great family-owned place with home style food, reasonable prices and an excellent waitstaff. We'll definitely be back!

Considered a favorite among the locals, owner operated restaurant with a bar lounge. Regular aluminum tables and booths. The owner waits the tables. The menu has local favorites such as loco moco, spam and portugese sausage; Japanese, Korean and American selections; easy on the wallet...they offer senior meals and combination bento boxes. Plenty of food, although their Osaka saimin noodles is soggy, the broth is good and piping hot as I like it. The teriyaki is a bit too sweet and so is the kalbi.

8/16/07: Standard fare Japanese and local food restaurant. Popular with the locals, you'll find the typical menu items. I've been there regularly with my in-laws - good service. There is a bar attached to the restaurant, have always eaten in the main dining room and haven't ventured into the bar. Restaurant is open for brunch on weekends and is right around the corner from the airport.

I love the fried saimin and the tempura udon, YUMM . My hunny loves the spicy pork & spicy ika. The kids, they love the fried saimin & the korean veggies. The food here is good and the prices are reasonable. The only junk thing is that the wait for the food can be long, especially for hungry little ones. but all in all a good place.

This poor review is only for the item I ordered and nothing else. I had the Bi bim kook soo and it was the worse I've ever had. I've had this at about 10 different places before so I kinda know what to expect. The somen noodles were dry and bland (no spicy sauce or sesame oil mixed in) and the side spicy sauce was sparse. The little meat (beef) on top was also bland. And, they used lettuce instead of cabbage on top. There was some Kim chee mixed in but no sprouts or watercress. Don't order this or you'll be greatly disappointed.

Ordered the Chicken Teri and Tempura Combo. Tempura should be avoided. It had a funny burnt taste like something was burnt in the dryer. It was soggy and too oily. Chicken (boneless skinless thighs) was ok. Not as good as usual. Service was fine. We were here on a Sunday and it was a bit slow.

I honestly can't remember what I ate when I came here with my family on a recent trip to Hilo. I do remember it came with miso soup, rice, tsukemono and mac salad (hey, I was on vacation, so let me indulge in a local favorite once in awhile)! I do remember thinking it was good, though, and would probably come back someday. The woman serving the food (maybe the owner?) was very friendly. It's located on the main highway very close to the airport.

Went in on a Sunday afternoon. Service was slow. Ordered saimin. It took 20 minutes and wasn't tasty at all. Will not be coming back and can't recommend this place to anyone.

If you like bibimbap in the hot stone pot, then this is the only place I believe that serves it that way. Their Korean food is Ok but prices on the higher side.

With a name of Osaka, I was expecting quality Japanese food. This review is not for the Korean part of the menu. I would probably give out 2.5 stars if possible. Their prices are much cheaper than other Japanese eateries in the area, but their service and food quality are akin to the lower prices. The .5 stars are because the food was not terrible, just meh. While the serving sizes were hefty, the flavor was missing. Miso soup was a very large bowl, but the flavor was lacking. Pickles were on the sweet side. The beef tofu was on the sweet side as well, beef on the hard side. Service was quite slow with only 1 wait help for lunch on a Saturday. Menus a little greasy - really felt I needed to wash my hands after ordering! This restaurant is a Hilo staple and I don't like to dis local mom & pop shops. I would go back to try their Korean food, perhaps another Japanese dish. They just won't be on the top of my list. 31 Yelp Reviews Challenge #28/31

My Second favorite Korean restaurant! They have some different menu compared to other Korean restaurants here. Their side dishes aren't that impressive and food is kind of pricey but it's good! They serve liquor too.

Good homemade-like dishes. We had oxtail soup, calamari app, and chicken katsu-don. Excellent service. Local favorite.

Uh Sucka! That's the name we gave this restaurant. The food is so bad here that we have blacked them out. Quality food? No way. Authentic Korean/Japanese food? No way.

Not much to say about this place. Remember coming here when I was younger and the tempura was oily. Came here for dinner tonight since I've been wanting to give it another shot. Got the meat jun, it was just okay (if you want awesome meat jun, go to Cham Cham!!). The plus side was that it was a very large portion, I took half of it home. Service was slow even though it wasn't so busy. Probably wouldn't come back anytime soon, I have other fav places for Japanese/Korean food.

I got the beef sukiyaki. It was really good. The best that I have had in Hilo. Go when the Korean cook is working..Un Cha. She leaves at 2pm. She's really good.

Restaurant Osaka ended up being our families favorite place to eat on our trip to Hilo. They have an interesting mix of both Japanese food and Korean food. First night we went, I got the Chicken fried rice with chicken katsu for I think like $10. It was really good and really filling, even a big boy like me had to ask for a take out container. The second night I had the Hot and Spicy Pork off the Korean menu. Again, a winner. My family enjoyed everything they tried and it seemed like everything was a winner here. The atmosphere is very pleasing and the staff was very nice and attentive. I believe they also had a bar in the back but I'm not to sure. I will definitely come back here on my next visit to Hilo!

We arrived 45 minutes before closing on a week night and were seated promptly. I had the tonkatsu donburi which had a soggy coating on the paper-thin pork cutlet. We also ordered a tempura donburi, vegetable tempura dinner and a beef teriyaki with tempura dinner. All the tempura meals were disappointing because the coating was soggy and resembled fish and chips batter and was not the light tempura coating that we expected. The service was good but overall the food was not as good as we expected.

This is DEFINITELY a local favorite. Which made me feel cool walking in for dinner. The food is decent and I like how my money is going back to the folks who are working the restaurant. The seafood mix plate comes out unassuming but the fried shrimp are like magic. It was so perfectly crunchy and tasty.

The lunch bento (tempura/yakitori) combo is the bomb! It's a quiet family owned restaurant/bar off the main highway. Service, as always is great. The ladies there are friendly and are always there should you need anything.

Hubby loved his nabiyaki but I thought the tempura was horrible. Like the worst tempura ever. The miso soup was good and they had quick service and good hot tea.

My sister and I happened upon Restaurant Osaka by accident. We were actually trying to go to Big Island Delights for some yummy treats, but they were closed (Sunday). So when we were thinking of some place to eat for dinner, my sister remembered Restaurant Osaka which was located right next to Big Island Delights. As soon as we walked in we were greeted & seated right away. We chose to sit by the front door, so I wasn't able to see how big the restaurant really was. Looked like the usual . . tables and boothes. It got pretty busy and I could only see 2 waitresses, but we never wanted for anything, Our water & tea were always refilled without us having to ask or wait too long. The menu was pretty vast with American, Korean and Japanese choices. My sister and I chose Japanese. I ordered the shrimp tempura & teri beef combo and she chose the tempura & tonkatsu. I was surprised at how much teri beef I got and there were nice pieces too (not fatty like some places). My sister really enjoyed her tonkatsu saying it was SOOO tender and delicious. We both enjoyed our last meal in Hilo (on our way to the airport) and were happy with our accidental find.

worst noodle I have ever had. We went there around 2:30 pm, we were told they only have noodle or udon. We ordered seafood noodle and chicken udon. The seafood noodle was uncooked, very hard, the soup was cold. I got a stomach ache after this lunch.

W e ate at Restaurant Osaka for lunch. The prices was not bad for lunch. My wfe ate fried rice and Korean chicken. My daughter ate the loco moco and I ate the fried rice with chicken katsu. Service was good. The food was very tasty. The fried rice was actually made like how I think fried rice should be made. Not like the kind you find at china town express or panda express

Homestyle Japanese, Korean food. From the outside, it looks like Restaurant Osaka has a small dining space but inside, the space is actually quite large ... two rooms, a bar, and partitions. On the night we went, there were only two servers so service was really slow and the main waitress was not friendly nor especially helpful. I thought it was ironic that she had won an award for quality service a few years back. I tried hailing one of the waitresses several times, and on occasion the younger server stopped and listened but never returned with my request. I had a flight to catch and felt exasperated and frustrated with the service. The food was tasty (yay to the chef) and I finished my entree but overall this place is ok. I definitely support small, locally owned businesses and cafes but when the service is poor and it doesn't seem like the servers even care, then I move on and support other businesses. Noris, anyone?
