One afternoon, I decided to venture to this L&L for lunch. This restaurant is located in arguably one of the tiniest and saddest looking of all the strip malls I visited in Hilo. So, I order their lunch combo with grilled garlic shrimp and BBQ. The food looks good, it tastes good, everything's all good ...until I find a fried beetle in the charred remains of my grilled garlic shrimp. And I assure you, it was a beetle and not a burnt piece of shrimp because I counted six legs plus antennae on that sucker. Everything wasn't so good after that. Two stars because I know L&L is quick and tasty island food, but also only two stars because when I order grilled garlic shrimp, I do not expect a grilled garlic beetle. I'll save that for when I visit Southeast Asia, thanks.

OK... so this is the second L&L we tasted and yeah the atmosphere sucked.. it was in a crappy strip mall and it was the 4th of July so the rest o fht estrip mall was closed besides Walmart... thank dios but we stopped here anyways because the restaurant we wanted to go to that had been Yelped very highly was a few doors down was closed. L&L wasn't the coolest but out of the other offering it was probably the best and the Korean BBQ shortribs... ROCKED... how could they now? Serived with rice and the creamy non-Best Foods Mayo pasta salad but still good somehow concoction....

Don't bother. Nasty, greasy, overcooked fare with mayo on top.

It should be possible to leave no stars...one is too generous! Awful atmosphere, rude staff...prices ok. My beef tasted like salmon. Food was horrible. McDonalds in the Walmart next door would have been a better choice!

Picked up party pans from L&L tonight out of convenience for my daughter's birthday at fun factory. We got a small pan of musubis and asked to have it cut in half, a medium pan of chicken katsu, and a medium pan of beef broccoli cake noodles. From reading reviews I was kinda worried but the food all turned out great! For the amount of people we had we had more than enough food. The food was great and everybody loved it!

Forced to eat here by cheapskates who don't enjoy the fine dining experience or paying a little more for good food. I was totally disgusted by the oiliness of my meal and how everything they offer is a sham of whatever cultural or ethnic food option you can imagine. That being said I wonder if their hamburger is actually good since that shit can't be screwed up....or can it? If it consists of cabbage and oil its probably from L&L Drive Inn. YUCK.

I've never had a bad meal here. I don't know why, but they've got some crummy reviews?? Tonight I went over to our daughter-in-laws and finished off the leftovers that they'd picked up. Big crispy shrimp, fried rice, noodles, beef broccoli (Chinese style), veggies, fish, and the best, the eggplant. It was the leftovers from two take out plates and my wife and d-i-l and the four year old had already eaten and left enough for me to be happy (the four year old loves the eggplant and eats the broccoli!) . The shrimp was excellent, as was the eggplant; they really do good eggplant. Every thing else was just fine. I also go there sometimes and get the 'healthy' ahi plate: green salad instead of macaroni!

(Dined 1/09/12 MO): It should taste even better since it's being prepared in its homeland, right!? I guess fast food is fast food no matter where you eat it. The first port day of my 14-day Hawaiian Islands cruise roundtrip from Los Angeles with Princess Cruises, and I was hankering for some local food. The mission being in Hawaii is to only eat local grinds and nothing else. Unfortunately, I really wanted something local like lau lau, kalua pork, shave ice, spam mushubi, etc., but all I was able to find at my place of location was a fast food chain I have back on the mainland, L & L Drive-In. In this case, it was actually inside a ghetto strip mall within a food park with three other places to eat. It was lunch time, so there were several people ordering food and eating among the establishments and shared dining area. Unfortunately, they had already sold out of the lau lau, so I opted for the kalua pork & cabbage traditional plate lunch with two scoops of white rice and one scoop of macaroni salad ($7.19) and a large mango boba tea ($3.75) to wash it all down. I got my mango boba tea quickly, and my plate lunch soon followed. I was very disappointed with my mango boba tea. Not only was there too much ice (and big pieces, too), but was lacking in the amount of boba I'm accustomed to (I like a lot of boba). Plus, the boba was not uniformly shaped and was kind of hard. No buena, at all. Thankfully, my plate lunch came to the rescue for this horrible bombastic bungling of boba. In true Hawaiian fashion, the portion was huge! The kalua pork and cabbage was fresh and piping hot. The same could be said about the rice, and the macaroni salad was adequate (I like more pineapple in my macaroni salad). The kalua pork seemed to nearly melt in my mouth and wasn't as salty as I've experienced. A job well done! The service was good enough. There's no wait service; just place your order and wait for the food to arrive. Parking is ample, as it is part of a full outdoor shopping center. Overall, I'm not a fast food person, but my choices were limited if I wanted to grub on Hawaiian food. The food was good except for the boba, and I do see value as noted by the prices I quoted above (total bill was around $11 before tip), and I was stuffed. You're in a food park at a mall, so the atmosphere is completely casual. The décor is non-existent. Unfortunately, they don't take my credit card of choice...AMEX!

No. Just plain NO. The food is nasty. I tried to go back several times. The last was the straw that broke the camel's back. What was I thinking? My food came out with a spoiled dairy flavor. I almost threw up. Didn't even ask for my money back, just dumped it and walked out. I will NEVER go back- somebody is going to get sick- they should shut it down.

Worst L&L I've ever seen. First off, the service is slow and just not friendly. Second, the ribs I got were SO fatty that I couldn't cut them. I ended up not eating most of my food. That NEVER happens at an L&L. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT eat here. I love L&L for fast food while I'm in HI, but I have no idea how this one is SO different from the rest.

The food is good, but the people who take your order are not friendly at all. They barely say a word to you, even if you tell them "thank you," they don't acknowledge you. A couple of the times I've been there, I felt very rushed. I assume it is just because they're all about business.. Two stars for the food, but customer service needs work.
