I know that this may seem odd but inside the Tesoro gas station lies the heavenly Ginger Patch. They make sandwiches fresh as you order them, either off the menu or "your way", they also have pre-made sandwiches if you're in a rush. They make them fresh every morning, so you don't have to worry about how long the sandwiches have been sitting there. The bread is always fresh and never stale, the bread is also a good size (not puny slices or tough rolls). The sandwich meat is fresh, not processed Butterball or anything like that, and the vegetables are fresh as well. To top it off, there is always an extremely delicious pickle, pepperoncini (quite nippy like the Genova deli ones), and peppermint patty added to your sandwich order, which is an added bonus. I was happy to hear that there is a Subway here in Hilo because I was afraid I'd be forever doomed to eating all my meals fried and/or covered in gravy. But, once I got here, my fiancee took me here to get sandwiches and I have been hooked since. They will make the sandwiches how YOU want them! We eat here so often they know who we are and it's only my first week here..... Oh yeah, a couple sandwiches will cost you over $10 but it is well worth it!
