I can't believe I'm taking the time to review/comment on a McDonalds. It's proba more of a stroll down memory lane than a review. I don't remember exactly when this McDonalds opened, but it was some time between 1986 and 1990 because that's when I lived in Haleiwa. When I first moved there in 1986, it was not there, but I do remember it was a huge controversy within the community when they were going to open. Now that I'm older, wiser (hopefully), and have come to know good food, I know my opinion would be much different now than it would've be then. At that time I was so excited because I was a 21 year old military wife and mom and I so welcomed McDonalds. I remember one particular time when my husband had just got home from work after a bomb call (he was EOD/bomb squad in the Army) and my stove was dead, and he was starving. There was nothing open at that time and at that age I didn't know how to just whip something up out of whatever was on hand. Food places that were not chains weren't open late back then so I drove to the closest McDonalds in Mililani. So I guess all I'm trying to say is that even though gray hamburger meat sucks, I was thankful they were there. Oh, how different things would be if I lived there now that I actually have money! That's okay though, those years were some of the happiest of my life. I so want to go back for a visit, but I think I would be disappointed. I'm sure it's still wonderfull, but not the tiny town it was then.

I always like to go to McDonald's in America just to see what the prices are compared with Canada. 20 nuggets for $5 WTF? Came in here for a drink and some fries after hitting up the Food trucks across the street. They don't have the dollar drink this summer. A Little over $2. I still like the fact that the value menu is $1 since it's been $1.39 back home for long time. I'm easily impressed I guess. They had a sign saying the washrooms were locked, but they weren't. I see why they have that policy though since many people walked into the restaurant just to use the bathrooms.

my first time at a mcdonalds in hawaii in over 10 years and this place was nice. but at the same time, it's a mcdonalds... i don't like to eat fast food, but this was convenient at the time.

Too bad you can't leave zero stars because this place sucks. I normally love mcdonalds but this place gives is a bad name! Don't waste your time or money. The customer service is the worst I've ever had anywhere.

This McDonald's is cool because it's a WiFi hotspot (do they all have it?). It's also my favorite place to use the restroom when I am going to and/or have gone to the beach on the North Shore. It's always open to the public; don't have to buy something to use the restroom. Just walk on in. You may want to buy a fruit punch to restock on fluids anyway. There's nothing like McDonald's fruit punch to rehydrate oneself; it's my favorite hangover drink. I would give this place 5 stars, except for they have the traditional McDonald's food... Fries are always good (with BBQ sauce, of course), breakfast yummy as usual. Burgers are kind of crappy, like they are at every other location. Salads and desserts deserve 3 stars. But ANYWAY, McDonald's Haleiwa, YOU ARE A BLADDER SAVER! I don't know why you weren't showing up on Yelp!'s map.

Worst McDonald's ever. First off, there is only 1 bathroom for each gender and the line is winding through the building. Dumb. You also have to ask for salt and pepper and stand in line for a refill. This is the worst McDonald's I've ever been to! Food was good but everything that goes with this McDonald's makes for a terrible time!

Why did this chicken cross the road? Because I was having Giovanni's Shrimp Truck for lunch, in the rain, and remembered that they do haupia (Hawaiian coconut) pies this time of year at McDonalds. Except that the lady on the speaker told us that they don't have them, only taro pies. But the taro pies are amazing, so we were okay, and switched over to those. Then at the first window, the lady said "two haupia pies", and we had to clarify again. Then at the second window, they were ALSO confused, when they called back to the kitchen "two haupia pies" and debated for two minutes whether or not they had them. Seriously, love the taro and love the haupia, we were totally willing to change our order to accommodate availability, but your restaurant has TWO dessert options, maybe figure that out before having three separate discussions about it while we wait in an idling car. Just annoying enough that we left, grumbling about their confusion and inefficiency.

McNuggets and 2 haupia pies.... Haupia pies are incredible! Nice guilty pleasure while on vacation. If you're going to eat bad, might as well go all the way. Restaurant was pretty empty at the time with a couple local haole kids eating in the back. Seemed clean enough but the wife said the bathroom was pretty bad. This place would get higher marks but that parking lot gets nuts at times. People driving like madmen...backwards! Thought I was at a rodeo for truck drivers. At least I was only driving a rental. ;)

Nasty! 4 METH heads in there WASHING themselves in the trashcan by the front door. It takes a lot to gross me out. Also, the staff didn't get the 4 peoples order in front of me correct and that's just stupid. I left.

Too bad you can't leave 0 stars. Oh well. This McDonald's stinks. When I say stinks I mean it literally. It smells like raw sewage is running in a stream through the restaurant. There are HUGE roaches that accompany the smell so buyer beware when thinking about eating here. The people that work here are really nice and apologetic but really can't do anything to make the situation better. I feel so bad for them. Hopefully one day the health department will get involved and shut them down. Until then stay away.

We ordered a plain cheeseburger meal for a girl. That's it. They gave my daughter a cheeseburger with pickles, ketchup, mustard and onions. Then they gave a monster truck toy instead of a hello kitty toy. Seems miniscule but tell that to a 6 year old who waited 20 mins for breakfast to be over so she could order this. It wasn't a complicated order so it's obnoxious.

    (1)
  • Robert S.

Terrible, terrible, terrible service! This is a privately owned McDonald's! Don't expect the same deals and offers at other McDonald's! They do NOT have the dollar drinks here! I waited in a 10 minute line only to find out that there dollar drinks are $2+. The manager (Marilyn) would not offer me a dollar drink, despite waiting for 10 minutes. I left and took my business elsewhere. I do not like Marilyn's demeanor and her attitude. My guess is that she hears it all day. It would be a great idea if this McDonald's posted on its windows and doors that they do not offer the dollar any size drink offer!

As I said during my check in, I have been in McDonalds all over the world. I cannot remember any one of them except this one locking their bathroom doors. The doors are presumably locked because of the food trucks nearby have customers that used to come to use McDonalds bathrooms. Now even McDonalds customers have to beg servers at the counter to let them go to the bathroom. Now as to the food. It's McDonalds, however, I thought my cheeseburger was bland. This is also one of the most expensive McDonalds I've been to. Probably my least favorite McDonalds in the world.

Where else could you find a coconut pie? Saw the advertisement driving by and had to stop to see what the fuss was all about. Apparently its a limited time offer so was really glad I got to try out the creamy coconut filled pie. They also offer ramen on their menu? Crazy but thought I had to give this location some recogniton as that is something unique to Hawaii.

On an evening visit to the North Shore, I stopped by this Mickey D's to get some food. Surprisingly, even with the surf competition going on, the location was pretty empty during the "dinner rush." There was no line, the food came out quick and fresh, so I had nothing to complain about. The restrooms at this location are locked though! So if you need to use the restroom, you have to go back to the counter to let a staff person know that you want to use it. So....based on my experience...I have to give it 4 stars!

I went through the drive through and ordered a McCain chicken with a tomato and a kids meal. The girl asked me if I wanted a coke with my kids meal.wtf it's a kids meal. Than when I got my food. My sandwich had lettuce and tomato but no chicken. Just cause I asked for a tomato doesn't mean I don't want the m e meat.

People usually get what they deserve. If you don't want a McDonalds on every corner blighting the landscape and making your kids fat, don't eat there! It is one of the reasons why small family-owned restaurants are disappearing in Hawaii. My family went to McDonalds but I ran across the street to Opal Thai. May not have been much healthier, but at least it was prepared by local people with local ingredients. I have to admit I snitched a few fries from my kids' Happy Meals when they weren't looking :(

It's one of the only drive-thru fast food place in the area. No complaints about the service. Complaints is with the quality of food that McDonald's sales. I've actually boycotted them because of their use of treating the beef with ammonia and their chicken nuggets aren't real chicken.
