Located in the North Shore Marketplace next door to Cholo's, Il Gelato has made it's way out to the North Shore! We visited during the "soft opening" phase. With a slightly different set up than their Kahala location, the flavors offered are still the same, and while they don't do any of their Gelato Coppas here, you can still get a cup or cone here as well as gelato paninis, Gelato drinks and coffee, Italian sodas , acai bowls waffles, crepes, and any gelato or sorbetto flavor in "spaghetti " form. We went with the Classico Spaghetti Gelato, a Biscottini Gelato Panini and an Illy Cappucino since at the time, they were not offering crepes and waffles. While it looks cool and tastes great, the spaghetti gelato just melted too fast and the bread on our panini could have been a bit more crisp and warmer. Vanilla Gelato was inside too, when I ordered Biscottini-probably miscommunication though when a young girl took my order, and another gentleman made the panini. Of course there are some kinks to be worked out, but this is a great spot to hit up after a hot day at the beach and you can also see small batches of gelato being produced right on the spot. Looking forward to coming back and trying their waffles and crepes as they are not available at the Kahala location. ALOHA! Shaka Meter: \uuu/ \uuu/ \uuu/ \uuu/ 4

Wow, this gelato is something like you've never had before. The creamy texture melts on your tongue and burst into flavors like fireworks. The rich combination of local flavors are combined with classic Italian ones, like dulce latte (caramel milk creme), stracciatella (milk based chocolate chip), gianduia (a hazelnut chocolate gelato) and many more. The gelato is made from scratch, daily, and is truly authentic. The owners, Dirk and Nicole studied gelato making in Italy and brought the craft over to the Hawaiian Islands. This is the second location for the local company IL Gelato, (the other one is in Kahala mall), but with this shop, a retail store was created where everyone who visits will feel at home. There's plenty of parking in front of the store, as well as outdoor and indoor seating where one can either order a panini, a crepe, a Belgian waffle, an Italian Sunday, or just a scoop of gelato in a cup or in a cone. I strongly recommend checking this place out, and try some of the delicious gelato and other delicacies. You will be served by a friendly, open and helpful staff that will greet you with a smile. Best gelato you could imagine!

Variety of gelato flavors available. The service was somewhat slow this day and there was only about 4 people ahead of me. Their gelato tho is very creamy with the perfect sweetness. I tried the Mac-nut flavor which I love and lilikoi cheesecake. Plenty of parking available. Nice staff.

When this place gets busy, lining up can be a little confusing. I'll always keep coming back though because my kids and I LOVE their gelato! They have some pretty unwise flavors and provide great customer service! Will definitely stop by the next time I'm in that shopping center.

The space is a cute little lounge, I strolled in while my family was next door getting coffee. I ordered the acai bowl because I've been dying for one all vacation. it took quite a while but considering the size and how much was put into it, it's understandable. during the wait my sister pointed out a dead cockroach on the floor smack dab in the front entry way, i was a little apprehensive cause that's not a good sign and was considering to cancel my order but the space was pretty immaculate I disregarded it. the longer we waited the more we felt obligated to point it out not so much that it bothered us but for any potential customer would turn away because it's right in front for everyone to see. the girl we pointed it out to had a bad attitude and as she went to the back she mouthed something and after she walked over with the broom and swept it up she rolled her eyes as she turned to walk back behind the counter and continued to mouth things to her colleague. the acai bowl was delicious the prep time could be improved but ultimately the service was garbage. she was a sassy little sh*t and I was very tempted to say something. I've worked in customer service, idk who pissed in her Cheerios but she didn't need to behave the way she did. I get she's an adolescent and they think they're young and independent blah blah but her attitude was blatantly obvious even when I first came in and the other girl took my order. again we didn't give a crap about the roach we didn't even complain all we did was point it out. sorry for trying to help your business, basically if I returned and saw her on duty I'd walk right out.

My wife and I went here last night, 08/17/2015, and it was a very unpleasant experience for me. We walked into the shop, and stood behind a family of 5 (Caucasian), as they made their order at the counter. The manager (or so I think), a middle-aged Caucasian woman, blonde hair, and a slight European accent was extremely friendly with the family in front of us. When the family of 5 had been served, they left, we came up to the counter, the staff somehow disappeared, we thought nothing of it, so we waited and continued to look over the menu. About 3 minutes passed (which is long when you're waiting to be served), and an elderly Caucasian couple came behind us, the manager magically re-appeared and waved them up to the counter. The elderly gentleman pointed to us, suggesting that we were there first; the manager, shook her head and continued to motion them to come to the counter. The elderly gentleman was courteous and asked us if we were waiting, and I, wanting to walk out after being bypassed, said to him that he could go ahead. Later, after the elderly gentleman and his wife had been served, the manager, whilst cleaning up / counting her bank gave us half of her attention and asked if we had been served. REALLY? I'm 6'2", 300 lbs.! My wife is holding our 1-month old baby, and oh did I mention we have brown skin? The only brown people in the shop! How did she not notice us? If you ask me, the manager has a preference of customers based on race, that preference being Caucasian customers. She was so animated and gave her full attention to the customers before and after us, who were Caucasian. Then for us, she gave us half of her attention while she began closing up shop. My wife is the optimistic type, and tries not to let acts of racism affect her. So I held my tongue, and did not speak of the issue again, trying not to ruin the experience for her, and ended up buying the gelato as planned. But, for sure, I will never go back to that shop. IF YOU'RE NOT CAUCASIAN, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE POLYNESIAN, DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR YOUR MONEY AT IL GELATO CAFE IN HALEIWA!

was going to eat here after Cholo's in Haleiwa, but after seeing the worker use the restroom, and then go back to work WITHOUT WASHING HER HANDS, we changed our plans. This occurred 4/10/2015 @ 1:45 pm. Pretty disturbing. She used the toilet and flushed, but forgot the handwashing step. GROSS!!!!

My FAVORITE place for a cold treat on the island. Their gelato is amazing and their coffee is awesome. I love the clean modern decor of their shop and the staff is super friendly and helpful. My whole family loves this place!

2nd day open. Came in for breakfast. Best COFFEE AND WAFFLES! They have Illy coffee, I have never heard of but it was delicious. Loved my vanilla latte. Loved the service and my son ate all of his waffle - that never happens. Happy Customers all around.

Illy Coffee! What else, solid cappuccino with the proper coffee and preparation. Hard to find a nice cup of espresso coffee sometimes, they are on it! Well run, clean and orderly.

I've been a fan of IL Gelato since their Kahala Mall shop opened. This new shop is brand new and very cozy! The flavor selection is unbelievable! The staff is friendly, the coffee is phenomenal, the cones and waffles rule! Everything I love about IL Gelato has simply moved to Haleiwa!

Cute Gelato shop with one of a kind flavors! The staff is so friendly and the restaurant is so clean. It defiantly has an anthro/natural feel to it! I love that everything is all made with all natural ingredients and no artificial flavorings as well. I also love that it's all made there, the waffle cones make the whole strip smell amazing! The crapes are so delicious! I would recommend this place to everyone, you won't be disappointed.

Ordered a single scoop of Gelato and it was good. They had an iPad as cashier register that they swiped the card on and then they turned towards you were you could specify how much tip you would like to give. I did however not like that, felt like they forced you to giving tip (even though you didn't need to do that).

I just loove the different flavors of ice-cream, very creative and inventive. You have to try the pineapple kale flavor for sure, its a sorbet and just tastes like paradise. Besides the amazing waffles, ice-cream and coffee, what I love about this location is the big outdoor veranda. It really creates the atmosphere of an european out door cafe and that was something that I really missed here. They serve espresso in the real cups (porcelain) and there is no plastic plates or glasses, which I really appreciate. Its the perfect stop on a sunny day in Haleiwa!

If you are willing to drop a little more dough on some good quality frozen treats, then this place is worth going to. There are many different selections of unique gelato that they sell along with toppings and different style of cones. One unique thing about this place is that they make their own waffles (and waffle cones) which you can order with your gelato with whip cream and chocolate syrup. The servers are very nice and will encourage you to sample as much as you want until you find the flavor you like. Don't be afraid of some of the unique or exotic flavors they have. There are many sweet eateries on the north shore, but this place is deffinately worth checking out

I really like this place. The staff is very friendly and helpful and everything that I've had here is so good. Their gelato is made fresh on premises, they always have different flavors, and the owner/manager (who is Italian, I think) will give you a fresh sample right out of the gelato making machine-can't beat that. Their waffle cones and bowls are also made fresh so they're nice and cripsy and flavorful. I especially like their affogatto and iced coffees (made fresh with great coffee). I haven't tried the crepes (both sweet and savory options) YET but that's next on my list. I've been coming here just about every week since they opened and I'm never disappointed.

Very nice place to have a gelato and or crepe. Very delicious flavors of gelato. Unique and colorful. Had the apple banana and dragon fruit sorbet. Also had strawberry and banana crepe. Which was very delicious. Nice space clean and cool. Very convenient location and great service.

It's super hard to earn 5 stars from me when it comes to gelato, but this shop was really great! It was clean and the employees were very nice. The flavors were unique and I think that people visiting Hawaii are more interested in having delicious local fare than real Italian gelato, so in that regard, they nailed it. I had Tahitian Vanilla/ Kula Lavender. The other tempting local flavors were mango, lilikoi cheesecake, dragon fruit , and coconut. I would love to go back to order a chai latte or acai bowl, and I would definitely go back for the gelato again. Lots of gluten free choices!

The good: Their gelato is very good. The bad: They have a few proven popular really fantastic flavors, like "OREO MINT" but they rotate them out for lame flavors like popcorn... I can't tell you how many times I have driven all the way down to Haleiwa to have a gelato and all they have are these silly weird flavors...so I walk. Why do they not always have their top 5 flavors and rotate the rest with their experimental weird flavors baffles my mind.

I am in love with this restaurant! All food items are so well presented with fresh ingredients. Everything about Il Gelato seems first class and light years above the bohemian ways of so many Haleiwa eateries. Il Gelato deserves all of the best for taking their food, their service and their physical building to new levels of excellence. Mahalo Nui Loa

I have been here 3-4 times and the gelato has always been ah-mazing! The coconut gelato has got to be my favorite - so refreshing! With that being said, I only rated this establishment 3 stars do to inconsistency in customer service and non-gelato foods. One of the times I came in, the woman working there was on the business phone, (on a personal call), the entire time I was ordering. It was quite awkward for me to hear the personal details she was talking about. Although, she did make up for it my making me an awesome crepe. The last time I was in the shop I had the worst crepe I had ever eaten. The woman cooking the crepe didn't know how to make it. (I observed her vigorously raking the crape wand instead of twirling it which lead to a crepe that was burnt and crispy on the edges and undercooked in the middle.) So bummed. My advice - get the gelato or make sure that the person working actually knows how to cook a crepe.

We stopped in for an espresso and some gelato and liked the place. They serve espresso in the correct cups (porcelain, with a plate and espresso spoon) although they did pull the shot a little too long. Next time I will just specify that I want a "short" pull. We also had some delicious lychee sorbet. I cannot get enough of this fruit and the sorbet tasted just like them! They have indoor and outdoor seating with comfortable chairs. Good stuff. We will likely come back here whenever we are in the nabe.

I went there on a hot Sunday afternoon with my humans. They got me the mint chocolate chip (I can eat a little bit of chocolate) and it was so tasty! My mommy got salted caramel and biscottino, which she really liked. My daddy had pitaya and dark chocolate. They were both very satisfied! It's a shame that there aren't more ice cream places on this island of eternal summer, but happy to have Il Gelato! Maybe next time I'll get a free scoop for being cute?

This is by far my favorite gelato place. I come here once a week (at least) with all of my friends. We order different flavors every week and every flavor seems better than the last. My all time favorite is the dragon fruit. All the ingredients are so fresh and the environment at il gelato is so welcoming. The staff always seem so happy to be at work, always greeting us with smiles and asking how we are doing. I look forward to going for gelato here every week because I know that no matter what I order the quality will always be top notch. I ordered a fantastic crepe last week and was amazed by how flavorful it was! I don't think a top-notch crepe from France could even compare! If I had to give everyone in Hawaii, tourist and local alike, one piece of advice it would be to go to Il gelato, the flavors of gelato are to die for, the food is pure culinary perfection, and the staff are all so nice!

I work in the North Shore Market Place and am so happy Il Gelato opened up here! Their gelato is amazing, with different flavors each time I go in. I've also seen waffles and crepes being made which look delicious - presentation is great. My colleagues have tried their coffee, sundaes and italian sodas and have said all great things too. A comment to a previous review about not washing hands - I have seen employees of Il Gelato wash their hands religiously using the handsink behind the counter. I personally don't like the bathroom soap (it's very watery and you don't feel clean afterwards) so I choose to wash my hands at my own work place so maybe this is the case here also? Don't assume on just one glance :)

Great and unique selection of flavors; authentic gelato. Friendly staff. Owner came out to greet us and clearly cares about customer experience and quality. We are looking forward to coming back to try the Belgian waffles and sweet and savory crepes. Yummy cappuccino for the drive home :)

When we first moved to the island we were sold on Dave's and shave ice... but that was before we found il Gelato... now we won't settle for anything else! This place is amazing. They rotate their flavors frequently and let you try everything before you order. I highly recommend the affogato (espresso served over gelato) and the affogato supremo (add another scoop of gelato and whipped cream). A nice touch is that they bring ice water to the patrons while eating their gelato.

Ugh so unimpressed. And maybe it is because I just left and am so disappointed - I may revisit this review later... OK so what the hell, the lady taking our order was coughing all over the place. And not just coughing like super throaty nasty hack. I was so afraid she was going to cough all over my son's ice cream or hubs root beer float. I was watching like a hawk. Thank goodness the other employee dude finished making the float. However while waiting to pay - I watched her nasty cough, wipe her face/mouth then get Gelato for some unsupecting victim. Ewwwww. I am beyond grossed out. And the price. I slightly the ice cream at Scoops o paradise was slightly pricey- yep not so much. These guys must have quite the over head customers they are pricey! Much be better quality? I admit I tasted both and that was it.

Woo hoo! My fave gelato/sorbet business has a new location in the North Shore Marketplace, next to Cholo's! Now I can get a cold treat in Haleiwa whenever I'm down that way! Woo hoo X 2!

Authentic gelato on Oahu. Pistachio reminded me of Florence. Cashier was a bit grumpy but other than that very good. Oh and love the roosters hanging out on the patio.

Best (and only) Gelato shop on the North Shore. Many local and exotic flavors. Next to Cholo's (which offers no dessert), so gotta stop by if you gotta sweet tooth.

Great gelato! They have amazing flavors, everyone was very friendly. Sadly we haven't tried anything besides the gelato. My mom has been coming the past 5 nights in a row! Not a place to miss!

I get she's an adolescent and they think they're young and independent blah blah but her attitude was blatantly obvious even when I first came in and the other girl took my order. again we didn't give a crap about the roach we didn't even complain all we did was point it out. sorry for trying to help your business, basically if I returned and saw her on duty I'd walk right out.

was going to eat here after Cholo's in Haleiwa, but after seeing the worker use the restroom, and then go back to work WITHOUT WASHING HER HANDS, we changed our plans. This occurred 4/10/2015 @ 1:45 pm. Pretty disturbing. She used the toilet and flushed, but forgot the handwashing step. GROSS!!!!

2nd day open. Came in for breakfast. Best COFFEE AND WAFFLES! They have Illy coffee, I have never heard of but it was delicious. Loved my vanilla latte. Loved the service and my son ate all of his waffle - that never happens. Happy Customers all around.
