New to the area, I like to try out local places. We went to Mongo on a Saturday night around 7:30; prime time for weekend dinner. We were intrigued by the outer construction, and decent reviews online. We were greeted by a few young ladies that we assumed worked there; no one had uniforms or anything identifying them as employees. No one seemed enthusiastic to be at work. The environment in Mongo has a lot to be desired. The booths are old and the plastic is cracked; the floor is light colored carpet so you can see all the stains. The menus are old and felt dirty. The menu said to ask the server about the beer selection; however, our server said they no longer sold beer. The food was decent, but nothing spectacular. The vegetables looked good and fresh, but some of the meats looked questionable. Food came out quickly in a large plastic bowl. Overall, I'd give our visit a 5/10, and probably won't go back. The quality was lacking, the environment needs a complete overhaul, and the majority of folks working seemed indifferent about making sure customer's needs were met. This place might be alright for a plate of take-out, but there are better places in town to go to dinner on a Saturday night.

Your experience at Mongo really depends on how much you value food quality over food quantity. Meals consist of a mongolian-style pick-and-grill: rice/protein/vegetable bowls, and sauce selections at the end. While it's nice to vegetarians to include tofu, pre-cooked and frozen tofu doesn't cut it, and the smell of some of the meat and seafood indicates that you probably should avoid that, too. Vegetables, on the other hand, are often fresh and interesting. Service is usually with a sullen expression and pretty slow, and a manager often just ambles about, doing nothing. The cooks, on the other hand, are often hard at work, and they do a great job with what they have. It's this inconsistency in quality and performance that has me scratching my head at the management of this place. Standards just don't seem to be that high, and you can get a cheaper, healthier meal elsewhere in town. If you're being lazy and just want a stir-fry, it's marginally okay, but I'd rather just buy ingredients, do a better job, and not have to deal with the staff. It seems like they'll last for a while for lack of competition, but as soon as you see a Genghis Grill or a Flat Top Grill in Valdosta, this place will have its work cut out for it to stay open, as customers will have a reference point for what a good Mongolian grill place actually is.

Excellent Mongolian grill. You fill your plate with all the pasta/rice/veggies/meat you want and then add the sauce you want and hand it to the cook. They cook it on the hibachi grill and bring it out to you. Great place to get exactly what you want.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Mongo. Do not let your eyes deceive you, what seems like a small amount of food goes a long way so don't cram your bowls with food. The potstickers are AMAZING appetizers, fried or steamed. The secret to good Mongo is blending the sauces at the end of the line. To get you started I recommend Szechwan and teriyaki. Enjoy...

Great food, great service!! Some of the other reviews were negative but were based on atmosphere, I'm interested in taste and service and this place rocked it on both. Price was very affordable and if you enjoy Mongolian you won't be disappointed!

We have eaten here several times and have had a wonderful experience each time. Even when they are busy, the staff is friendly, the food is cooked to perfection and tastes wonderful!!

Has completely messed up my stomach- stay away from the imitation crab. If you're really in the mood for Mongolian, it's definitely worth going out of the way for Ghengis Grill.

Great food, you get to fix it yourself and have them cook it! Kool Pile on the Fresh veggies and meats. The people working there are nice and courteous .

Not the best place I have been too. I wouldn't lie to you if I said not to go here. You go up to the food counter and you get three bowls. One bowl is for your vegetables, one if for meat, and the other is for sauce. I just don't think it is sanitary to stack all different kinda of raw meat in one tiny bowl. My steak was crunchy and hard to chew. I don't think I will be coming back for awhile. I would rather go to Hibachi or Ichiban.

Entire concept of handling raw meat bothers me. It is in the old Lighthouse Restaurant that I used to go to for years, just feels strange and maybe old or dirty. I would rather someone make me a great hibachi meal than me add a bunch of stuff into a bowl and hope it tastes good. Like I said the raw meat station kinda did it in for me.

This place surprised me. The interior is cute and you get a ton of food for the money. The food really wasn't as good as I expected but for the price is well worth it. I also love being able to customize my dish. You get 3 plates in different sizes: a large one for starches and veggies (rice and noodles,) one for meat (steak, chicken, pork, sausage, ham, shrimp for lunch and scallops, crab, calamari for dinner,) and the last bowl is for sauce. Leave it all with the cook and it cones straight to your table. It's also amusing to watch people stack meat like Jenga pieces to get the most for their buck. That's really unnecessary though because a second trip is only $1 for lunch and $2 for dinner...
