Been here 3 times, the food is hit or miss. The good- fried oyster basket. Oysters seemed fresh and fried just right. Service was great. The average- crayfish etouffee was fine but over priced (given the quality). I liked the crayfish meat in it, but I thought the sauce was bland. No stars taken for that. The bad- 1 star taken for under cooked fried catfish. Raw center. Another star gone for using tiny half inch shrimps on po boy. They looked like popcorn shrimps. Such great oysters, why not real prawns? Want to like this place, will give it another shot.

Really enjoyed my first experience here. Ricky and I decided to try this place last night because he had to pick up his car from work nearby. I choose this place for us to eat because I wanted seafood and I knew this place was one of the best in the area in addition to having ESPN usually (so ricky can watch the nfl draft going on). For those from the Keys in Miami think Mrs Macs. Parking was easy and we were seated immediately and our waiter came immediately also to welcome us. She brought us samples of their soups which were all good. We tried the raw oyster which were good and the hush puppies (OMGGGGG SOOO GGOOODDD!). Ricky got some type of crab cake burger and I got the boil. The boil is meh and so was the crab cake. Next time I will get something else that is recommended on yelp (my phone was dead so i didnt get to check in or look at recommendations). But never the less we really enjoyed our time here for the good selections we got, the great customer service, the vibe of the restaurant, and ricky likes the big ESPN tv/screen for him lol. Price isnt bad also. Def will be back and recommend.

The hubs and I ate here for the first time last night, partly based on the positive reviews on Yelp. I'd like to be able to add to the gushing reviews, but can't quite commit yet. I was a little scared when I saw the place. It looks like every kitschy beachside restaurant on every beach in the south. We were seated immediately and an enthusiastic waiter came quickly to take our drink orders. He seemed new, because he would repeat items from his prepared speech ("all homemade," "nothing frozen") over and over through his greeting. My husband asked what one of the seasonal beers was on the menu, and our waiter just said, "Uh, I don't know" instead of offering to find out for us. Our drinks took so long to get to our table (the waiter had disappeared after putting in our order) that another server walking by noticed us sitting there without even water and came by to make sure we'd been helped. I thought that was very thoughtful of him. Our food came out fairly quickly: shrimp and grits for my husband and crawfish etouffee for me. Now I had read a previous review on Yelp reporting that the etouffee was bland, but decided to chance it anyway. After all, we all have different expectations of seasoning levels. But in this case, I should have listened to my fellow Yelp reviewer. The etouffee was beyond bland. I honestly don't think one grain of salt was used in its preparation AT ALL. I felt like I unloaded half the shaker of salt into my food, and it was STILL under-seasoned! In addition, the crawfish were suspiciously fishy tasting, and as I ate, I feared dire repercussions from my GI system later. Luckily, no such disaster occurred -- whew! My husband reported that his shrimp and grits were a little on the under-seasoned side too, but, after tasting my food, said that his dish was light years better than mine. Boo. I guess I ordered the wrong thing! I'm honestly not sure if I'm going to go back. Because my husband's shrimp was good, I wonder if I should have just gone with a fried shrimp basket. I have the feeling the crawfish doesn't move out of the kitchen enough for it to be really fresh (well, as fresh as you can get in a landlocked place like Gwinnett County.) So I have to agree with Ben Y. -- this place seems to be hit or miss. And if I were you, I'd stick with the shrimp.

I thought the fish tacos were good. The best thing was the fried alligator tail appetizer. Someone I was with thought the salmon was horrible. If you go here, just order correctly (anything fried, like the plates with fries and hushpuppies and whatnot, is definitely safe), and it'll be a good experience. They brought the desserts out to show us and to see if we wanted to order one. I thought this move was a little awkward; we felt too pushed. We got the peanut butter pie--be sure to split it with someone, that stuff is dense. Nice staff, a little too nice...was a tad annoying.

Came here on a Saturday night and it wasn't as busy as I thought it would be. I liked that there was live music there. The restaurant makes you feel like you're at the beach or eating at a restaurant in Florida. Our waitress was very nice and offered us soup samplers since it was our first time there. I was glad that I was able to sample the soups because I ended up not getting any, which is fine. Ordered: Dozen raw oysters(good), grilled fish tacos(amazing), shrimp and grits(good) and key lime pie(could be more tart but yummy). The oysters were a good size and yummy but missing the sweetness I was looking for. The shrimp and grits came with a veryyyy generous portion of shrimps(dozen), good for you shrimp lovers. My favorite were the fish tacos. Fish was cooked perfectly and the sauce is sweet and citrus which complimented everything really well. Key lime pie needs more lime in it but I still enjoyed it. MUST GET THE FISH TACOS! THEY ARE SO DELICIOUS!

I really like the atmosphere. Food is good and the people are so friendly and willing to accomodate. I came for oysters being I work out of lousiana it's really hard for me to find good oysters here. Still I was impressed with the freshness and size. My lady had fish tacos and didn't really like it but they made sure to take care of the problem. Try them out!!

Really enjoyed this place. Wait staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Food was great. I really enjoyed the shrimp gumbo. My son loved the honey BBQ wings and his pulled pork sandwich. The peanut butter pie was to die for! My only suggestion for this family owned business is to add jambalaya to their menu!

Best shrimp n grits I ever had! 2nd time trying it...please don't ever change your recipe. Peanut butter pie is just as amazing!

Enjoyed a great burger and fries with a sweet tea! Fair price for a burger. Place was empty during lunch if you need some peace and quiet for quick lunch date or meeting. Would love to go at night to vibe with the local crowd!

Great food and great service!! The manager was very friendly and checked on us multiple times and we also had a fabulous waitress, Tori. This was our first time and we will definitely be back!

The Hush Puppies...... Let me tell you, these puppies are the bomb! The Fish Tacos are excellent! I've been here many times and have ordered Po Boys, Burgers, Bayou Chicken and their Gumbo. All of it was really good. I would give this eatery 5 stars if it wasn't for their really loud music when they have their live entertainment. It is so loud that you have to yell to talk to the others eating at your table. I typically like my music loud in the car but it is just excessive here. If you have 6 or more people I wouldn't recommend eating here on a weekend because they only have a few large tables and the wait can be long. The wait staff has always been really friendly.

  • Kelly S.

YUM! Service is SUPER friendly, and the food is SUPER delicious. A sampler of the days soups were brought out, all were very tasty, clean, and comforting. Hubby had the blackened grouper (better than Chilean Sea Bass imo but not as pricey), and I had the crab cake sandwich with hush puppies (best hush puppies ever). Dad had the blackened mahi sandwich and all were very impressed.

  • Graham R.

Great soups and service. The main entrees - average-poboys , the shrimp boil- less than average and overpriced. Would go again for good soup

It's always great when Yelp steers me to a decent place and that's how we found "Gulf Coast Grill." A review popped up on the home page "feed" and I read linked reviews then ... You will find Gulf Coast Grill in an unassuming strip mall off the busy Lawrenceville Suwanee Rd, in the same parking lot as "iHop." (and past wal-mart.) The interior is clean and inviting. Decor is Florida-influenced with numerous televisions and a large bar in the middle. A cool stage is in the corner for their music nights and a small patio with tables is positioned on the sidewalk. You will find a large number of seafood items that will be at home on any menu at a Florida "fish camp." That's a good thing because there is just not enough choices like this in the metro Atlanta area. Our waiter brought out small samples of their various soups and all were excellent. We ended up ordering Gumbo as a starter with some hush puppies on the side. That turned out to be an excellent choice. A great distinction is their soups were hot! ( ... So many places serve soup that may border on room temperature. Kudos to GCG on the heat!) Their "po boy" sandwiches and burgers sounded enticing. Ultimately, We chose "baskets" for our main course. You get an entree and slaw, fries, (more) hush puppies and choice of two "dipping sauces" with the basket menu. Our entrees were blackened grouper and fried oysters, both were great. The french fries were a bit pedestrian but their dipping sauces ---- made in-house --- made up for that. Their cole slaw is lightly sauced as opposed to the types offered at the typical 'kfc'. Our waiter was Aaron and he did a great job! He had a grasp of the menu (and business overall it seemed), answered questions and kept drinks filled. He mentioned GCG has been in business for close to two years and I wish them continued success!

Tried Gulf Coast Grill after reading the reviews on yelp. I tried hush puppies and Caesar salad, he tried the low country boil(they forgot to add the andouille sausage). We dined at 3pm on a Sat for "Linner" there were about 7 tables of guests. All the servers helped with each other's tables. It is Store front restaurant with a touch of the coast painted inside. Friendly team. Food was average.

Went in for lunch on a whim. Place was fairly crowded - good sign to me. The server came to the table pretty quickly and informed us of not only the specials but a little about the food/place as well Their seafood is flown in from the gulf a few times a week - nice! The taste matched that. I had the lunch special of a shrimp poboy with fries. Blackened of course. The shrimp were great - bread got a little soggy though. They didn't give us enough napkins which is the only downfall. Food came out quickly and was hot. Refills were plentiful - oh and your lunch combo came with a drink for maybe like $8?!? Great! I will so go back. I love seafood and it's hard to find good seafood that isn't fried. The overall menu looked good. Nice bar crowd even at lunch. Suwanee doesn't have a lot of non-chain places to eat, but this is one and one I'll go back to!

The best tacos I have ever had. The hush puppies are also great. My new favorite place

  • Savannah S.

The food here is pretty decent. The hush puppies are great! The catfish is awesome. The seafood gumbo tastes delicious. The fish tacos are just okay will not order that again. But overall, it's good food. The prices are fair. The space is large with lots of seating. Customer service was good. Nice welcoming environment.

Cold beer, delicious soups and gumbo along with half dozen fresh delicious oysters = yummy! The owners and Ashley super friendly plus the guy singing and playing is actually playing music I know! Can't believe I'm just discovering this place! I know it will become a favorite watering hole for me! Oysters reminded me of Dustys at pcb icy cold!

  • Cherilyn B.

So happy to find great oysters close to home. Everything was fantastic! Authentic, fresh creole seafood. Can't wait to go back for Thirsty Thursday's. Great beer selection too!

  • Billy S.

This place was alright. I'm a bit of a foodie and the shrimp po boy was alright except they drown it in sauce so you can't really taste the shrimp. On the other hand my wife had the grouper sandwich and it was just plain bad. Not sure if it was even grouper.

    (2)
  • Jan M.

We've only been once the food was just average I was really looking forward to having a great seafood place close to home It was very friendly and the service was good

    (2)
  • SD K.

This place used to be great but it's taken a nose dive. The shrimp (both the fried and the blackened) are very good. The wings used to be fantastic but now they have a smoky bbq flavor to them. The blackened grouper is fishy and undercooked. Also worth mentioning: ants on the wall & the table. Gross.

    (2)
  • Steve H.

Super friendly, LOCAL restaurant (a bit rare in Atlanta).....food was solid...the gumbo was the real thing, fish tacos were good and a blackened grouper sandwich was perfectly cooked. $9 pitcher of beer in frosted glasses was wonderful....that had a two-piece Blues band playing that had a stand up bass and were quite good.....they seemed to have a small crowd for a Saturday....hope more people show up for this place....

Excellent meal. I had seafood gumbo and shrimp and grits (see pics) . Both were excellent which is saying a.lot for this boy raised in mobile who has always been a NOLA regular. My wife had chili which was very good and crawfish étouffée which she liked but I think what I make is a LOT better. We will dr finely be back. Best seafood/Cajun this side of Mobile.

  • JJ R.

This place has friendly service and is great if you like just appetizers. We had the oysters which were fresh and good. The soups (the seafood bisque) were quite good as well. This places loses stars on the entrees. I had the shrimp Alfredo. It was served with tiny over cooked shrimp in a completely bland Alfredo sauce. Someone in my party got the shrimp and grits. Same kind of deal. Tiny over cooked shrimp with tasteless grits. The crab cakes are decent but over priced at $29 for what you get. The salmon was the best of the bunch that night. I feel that a seafood place should know to use big nice shrimp and cook them properly! I hope they read the reviews, step it up a little bit, and I will definitely go back and give them another chance.

Great service! We walked into the place a little before closing and was expecting a server just ready to get off work, but we were greeted by a very cheery hostess, and our server was very attentive and pleasant. The food was also very good. Environment was good. Not too loud, not to dark, and just about right. They have a good range of seafood including oysters on a half shell. I would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a place in the neighborhood to eat some seafood!

  • Dan H.

Seeing as there are no cajun major cajun places around, we decided to give this place a go. I'd say the food here is average on a good day. Nothing is strikingly flavorful, oysters weren't particularly fresh and the gumbo, though the owner claims it is his original recipe, could use some tweaking. The food is terrible but certainly falls short of being worth your money. But hey, what do you expect from a restaurant that uses Comic Sans MS for the storefront sign? Would not recommend.

This place was busy when we first came in. I take that as a good sign. The wait was about 15 min, which isn't bad for a Friday at 6 pm. We were seated by the owner of the restaurant, and you could tell he cares about everything going on and very engaged. Because it was the first time here, our server brought out a sampling of all their soups before the meal. Due to a mushroom allergy, I could only try the seafood gumbo and seafood bisque. Both of those soups were salty, but excellent tasting. I ordered the shrimp basket, which was $10. This was an absolute great deal. There were about 15 shrimp, four large hush puppies, fries, and cole slaw. The service was phenomenal and this place was better than some of the seafood restaurants back home in Virginia Beach. To finish it out, I got the peanut butter pie due to the comments in previous reviews. I took it to go so that I was able to have it later at the hotel. After eating it, it was exceptional. If I am back in this area, I will definitely make it a point to come back here hands down, The owners should be commended for the excellent food, excellent service, and excellent value!

Really enjoy the home town feel and the raw oysters are the best in town. Good and fresh.

  • Judy B.

I had the fried shrimp basket and it was excellent - shrimp were very fresh, although they left the shell on one before frying. The real issue was my husbands Shrimp and Grits. The grits were not good and 3 of the 6 shrimp were not cleaned. The shell was on 2 and the shell and legs were still on the third. When the manager was notified she said "oh, I'll get a napkin and show the kitchen". That was it. No offer to bring a new dish or sincere apology, etc. He left hungry and we were charged the full bill. The young waiter was much more professional, friendly and concerned about our experience than the manager. While I would love to return for the fried shrimp I doubt my spouse will agree anytime soon.

Get the shrimp and grits.. thank me later! The Manager Linda is a wonderful person and does an amazing job!

  • K. R.

Hush puppies are killer...you can taste the herbs - not just bland filler like some places. The grilled shrimp is blackened but not too spicy. Really nice flavors! I tried their cocktail sauce just to try it, had a nice kick, but honestly the food didn't need it. The slaw, tartar and sweet tater fries are nice too. I ate a few of my sisters onion rings and I could kill those all day...but I didn't come for fried food. This seafood doesn't need frying ;) Group I was with had Grouper baskets and all loved the salt n pepper batter. Another had the catfish Poboy and he cleaned his plate. All around a great place to meet and chill with friends!

In for a quick lunch on a Saturday morning to an ole favorite. I sat at the bar being only me so as to join the folks there and watch some of the ballgame. Taylor was the bartender and was very attentive suggesting an alternate beer snice my choice was not on tap. She sampled it and I have to say it was a perfect sub. Highland Ale from NC is all I know. Oysters on the half shell were my choice and Taylor mentioned that only this week had she been trained by Mark on the art of shucking oysters. Well Taylor did an excellent job. I always look for a place for raw oysters that sell a lot of them to ensure freshness and just in the time I was there 4 orders were shucked by the now pro Taylor. On a footnote kudos to the young manager on duty who respectively required two disruptive guests, and thats putting it mildly, to pay up and get out! These two idiots came in drunk at 11:30 am. Gulf Coast Gill maintains it standards well and thank you for it!

  • Ken J.

Soup trio they brought out first was good. Especially the pea & ham. Ordered shrimp basket. Slaw was average, shrimp were overlooked & chewy. Hush puppies saved dinner from being one star. Oyster Bay on square is Lawrenceville has this place beat my a long ways...

Amazing!!!!!# that atmosphere is amazing that people that work there you can tell LOVE their job they are amazing...the food is to die for...oysters, hush puppies, po boye sandwhich, key lime pie! Omg I couldn't get enough my husband and I will definitely be back!!!

We went here with friends. I felt the portions were small for the price and my husbands oysters weren't cooked correctly making them slimy...

  • Ashley S.

I enjoyed the shrimp alfredo and chicken po boy they were both good. The gumbo is very good as well as the seafood bisque. The service is good too. Normally a packed place but it is worth it.

  • Amanda F.

This place was ok. We went there on recommendation from a friend. The oysters were excellent but everything else was less than stellar for the prices they're charging. It was clean which is always great. I ordered the peanut butter pie to take home and it was disgusting. My kids wouldn't even eat it. Not good enough to go twice. I had high hopes!

  • Michael G.

The first time we came, we had the gator, a dozen oysters, a Cajun burger, and an oyster po boy. We all enjoyed it and wanted to come back often. Nearly two years later we returned and found the food as good as before. We each had an oyster po-boy and were surpised to find they were nearly a foot long each. And really well done too! Next time we'll split the po-boy instead of getting one each. Oink! Oink! Oink! The chef came out to see who could eat so much and to brag about how big the oysters were on the sandwiches. They really were good, and the oysters on the half-shell too. We just have to remember to go back.

  • Blaire S.

Food is very average, prices are very high for the quality of food provided. The soups are actually really good especially the seafood bisque, and the desserts here are really good but would definitely not eat dinner hear again.

Easy review for you. Service - amazing. Food - average Our server was the by-far the most attentive server I've had in quite some time at any restaurant. I believe her name is Eileen or Allyne, and she is to be commended for menu knowledge, light-hearted attitude, and VERY attentive and aware of her customer's wants/needs. The food: Typical seafood flavors and finishes for this area as most customers won't know any different. Is the food bad? Far from it. Just don't expect to taste magical in your boca. Peanut butter pie is pretty badass though. Do it. You can exercise later. Atmosphere is a little campy, but it's Suwanee, Georgia in a strip mall a few hundred miles away from a real beach, so I wouldn't expect any more or less. Live blues is a nice touch. I will be most likely be back.

  • Amelia J.

I'm a little mixed about this place. The people were VERY nice, and brought samples of soup to our table to try. One of the owners, Amy, was there, and she was super friendly. However, the service was a little meh-- drinks took a while to be refilled, and we waited a long time for our check (we were there at 3:30pm, so it wasn't busy). The soups were delicious, as was the dessert (peanut butter pie!), but my oysters were pretty subpar. There was SO much topping on them that it was almost hilarious-- it was a hunt to find the actual oyster. My boyfriend got the catfish basket and it was also just okay, and didn't seem like a lot of fish for the price. I think I'll go back someday to give it another shot, but right now I'm not convinced!

Excellent service by Adam. We ordered the shrimp basket and the shrimp, flounder basket. The fries, slaw and hushpuppies were superb! The shrimp with different dipping sauces rocked! Adam checked on us constantly and took good care of us. The dessert tray Adam presented to us was sinfully yummy. The german chocolate and key lime were so, so good. I truly recommend this fabulous restaurant.

Great place to get fresh seafood in Suwanee, GA. Uniqueness is a rare commodity in Suwanee restaurant selection. Gulf Coast Grill provided a friendly atmosphere (although I could do without the "entertainment" i.e.: bad cover song singer/guitarist on certain evenings). The food is great however, and everything I've tried has been outstanding: Low Country Boil, Chef Ron's Gumbo, Grouper Basket, Crawfish Étouffée, Shrimp and Grits, Shrimp Creole, Oysters on Half-Shell. The Beverages for Adults are also great value and delicious.

Once again the yelp review is spot on! I had the oysters Rockefeller that was amazing!! The steamed shrimp was also very good. Service was also very good. Don't leave this place until you get a slice of Miss Amy's key lime pie ( the server told me the story about her former bakery days). This is worth going out of your way for. ENJOY

Sat at the bar and meet the friendly bartender Richard. Looking around the place I did notice that there were 2 large groups (8+ each) but the place did not feel too packed. I did notice that they had a kid's area, now that's a first! I think it had a wii and a ps3 !!! I ordered the fried alligator and poblano cheese grits . The alligator was a bit bland but there was a sizable portion and came with 2 different dipping sauces. I picked the "oh man that's hot" dipping sauce and feller that had a kick but not anything like its name implies. I did like the dish overall. I'm not a grits expert but I didn't like what I was served . It too was bland and was at room temperature. Overall it was a disappointing dish. The last thing I ordered was a slide of key lime pie . "Slice" was a bit of an understatement it was huge ! Anyway, the pie meet my expectations with not being too tart or sweet. I will be going back at some point and will update when I do.

We stopped in for our first time visit hungering for seafood and hamburger sandwiches. We loved the trio soup sampler: Chicken Tortilla, Shrimp Bisque, and Gumbo w a hot after kick!!! These soups were so good on a rainy day. Afterwards, I ordered Shrimp Po Boy w Poblano Grits and husband picked the All American Hamburger with Onion Rings. The Po Boy was typical fresh tomatoes and remoulade mayo on soft hogie bun. Very good seafood, but the hamburger knocked it out of the ballpark. I took a small bite while he chowed it down. It was seasoned just right salt and pepper medium well and very good!!! Better than the Po Boy!!! Will visit again!!!

I enjoy supporting local businesses so I figured I'd give this place a go. Was greeted by the owner who was very nice and friendly. Waitress was just as inviting and friendly as well. I went with a cup of their gumbo and shrimp and grits. OUTSTANDING. I can't think of one thing that I can say I wasn't impressed with. The food and service far exceeded my expectations. They have a full bar and a stage for live bands in Friday and Saturday nights. I will definitely be returning.

  • Robbie W.

Went for lunch. Service was very slow, despite it being mostly empty. When our food finally arrived, my order was incorrect. I didn't have time to send it back. The catfish po boy would have been alright if it hadn't been over-saturated in remoulade sauce. It took another 15 minutes to get our check. Might give this place another try, but for the bar, not lunch.

Stopped in for first time. Late lunch. Servers very friendly, clean restaurant, and food is fresh. I had he catfish basket fried. Also the grouper basket also picked was a very good choice at the table. Choices: fried, broiled, blacked) 2 free choices of dippers. Hush puppies ,fries (perfectly fried) included and coleslaw light sauce (rather a little more mayo) but it was still good. All dishes at the table -very tasty. Gumbo which I picked for pre dinner was perfect with jasmine rice. Happy hour special drinks m-f 3-6. Chef came to table asked how the food was which was a thumbs up. I would definitely go back. Looking forward to trying another dish.

We'd been here 3-4 times! Always busy, good service, food is excellent! Place looks nice and informal, live music! They always bring you soup samplers do you can decide what to order (soups only). Shrimp and grits, delicious! Owner is most of the time, at the facility making sure everything is rolling! We always love to come!

Second visit in two weeks. Goes to the top of the list for great seafood. New Orleans flavor but outstanding seafood. First visit was terrific low boil. Served in a bucket. This visit was shrimp creole. Counted 14 or more shrimp. Best tasting outside of New Orleans and Henry's in Acworth. Seafood has to be fresh. Shrimp excellent. Very pleasant service. Friendly and cheery. They have a band. Will likely try to avoid due to noise but just might experience to add to review.

Due to the 4.5 star rating, we decided to give carry-out a try. Long story short - expensive and flavorless. Shame on me for expecting good seafood this far in from the coast.

Simply put... Amazing! I have family that lives in this area and we go here every time we stop in. The staff is incredibly nice and the food has never disappointed. Between my wife and myself there isn't much on the menu we haven't tried. My favorite is between the low country boil and the shrimp and grits. Food aside they also have a really good beer selection. Most of them are semi-local brewing companies (which I think is pretty cool) I like trying new beer and/or having choices from other good ones I already know. They also have live music. We've only been there when someone was playing twice, and it wasn't overpowering, just acoustic guitar and singing. We enjoyed it, the guys were good (I myself have been playing music for a long time and I thought they were pretty good). When someone isn't playing live they just have a good mixture of music playing.

I popped in because I was craving a po' boy. I got the 6in fried shrimp po' boy with new potatoes on the side. It was decent. The po' boy wasn't stuffed with shrimp that was my main issue. The remoulade sauce was great though! Service was very friendly. I'm not sure I would go back. It was just okay for me.

A great new addition to Suwanee and Gwinnett as both were lacking a good seafood restaurant and I would say Gulf Coast is great. Food is very tasty and reasonably priced considering the portions you get. Very kid friendly with a free game room and $5 choices which include a drink. The final element to push them to 5 stars is how friendly the entire staff is from the moment you walk in the door (which they open for you with a greeting) to the time you leave. It's nice to go someplace that really appreciates your business. We can't wait to go back for the live music on Friday or Saturday.

Tonight I dined at Gulf Coast for the last time due to moving from the area, and it was pretty much a state of what I've now come to expect. I've been dining here on and off for about a year and a half now, and the food has always been spot on. Fresh, flavorful, and certainly plentiful portions have always greeted me. I always looked forward to a slice of their amazing key lime pie to take home for breakfast the next day. Po Boys are always spot on here, and the blue crab and artichoke dip is absolutely amazing. The shrimp and grits are some of the best I've had. Where I have to dock this place is the service. It was always an issue to get seated here initially, and I could overlook that piece because the food was so good and the wait staff was friendly and consistently met my expectations. Back in the summer, they moved some of the young girls who used to work as hostesses to wait staff. That unfortunately has been their undoing. The same inattentiveness that caused backlogs and much longer waits than necessary now have been transitioned a more prolonged and direct interaction with customers. On multiple occasions our glasses were dry (water and beer) and tonight my order was incorrect. The sandwich was good (I didn't feel like sending the order back), but it took out waitress at least 7-10 minutes to come back around to us in a mostly empty restaurant to get the bill corrected. She even mentioned she noticed us looking over at her to try to get her attention. It wasn't packed like some weekends during the summer, with only a handful of patrons at the bar and tables throughout the restaurant. We asked for to-go boxes to take the rest of our food home and were given small dessert boxes for a half platter of seafood and half a Po Boy and fries. I say all that to say, the food is amazing, but the little things need to get cleaned up if this place really wants to take off for the long haul.

Definitely plan to stop here for a local dish of shrimp and grits. We were served a delicately flavored tomato gravy covered a generous scoop of perfectly cooked grits seasoned with cheese and mild peppers. Boiled fresh shrimp, cooked to perfection, surrounded the grits. Samples of three soups were brought to us-seafood bisque, corn and potato chowder, and the restaurant's signature gumbo. The soups were hot and savory. We passed on the soup to save room for the peanut butter pie. Oh, my, that pie is terrific. The inside of the pie crust is coated with dark chocolate. The peanut butter filling is so creamy, and the thick dark chocolate on top the ideal compliment. The wait staff is quick and attentive and the restaurant is immaculate.

First time patrons on Sat night, 1/19/13. Sat at the bar, but the wait at 7:15 was only 35 mins. Food was excellent. Mark, the owner welcomed us and brought us a sample of their soups - Italian Wedding Soup, Seafood Gumbo and Seafood Bisque. All 3 were outstanding. Capt Ron's baked oysters and fried alligator were both great choices. You can't go wrong as long as you like seafood. They do have a burger menu and I would imagine they'd be good too. Looked to be a family friendly atmosphere, though we did not take our children. It's a noisy atmosphere, so small children with an occasional tantrum will be masked. They have free video games on a big screen (couldn't tell if it was Nintendo, PS3 or Xbox). We'll definitely go back!

Gulf Coast Grill is a new "go to" place for me! Wednesday dinner, about 6:30 p.m. The place was packed, so I took a seat at the bar instead of waiting for a table. Ashley was working the bar, introduced herself and shook my hand, got my requested glass of Chardonnay in a flash while I looked thru the menu. I ordered the Shrimp and Grits, with a Cesar side salad. The salad came quckly, and was tasty. Lots of grated cheese, a handful of croutons and crisp lettuces. Just a touch of dressing, which was fine, I don't need my salad drowning in dressing. My Shrimp and Grits arrived before I was finished with my salad. At first glance, I wasn't super impressed...it didn't look fabulous. Shrimp, a clump of grits, some thin slices of sausage with a reddish brown gravy over the top and a couple of pieces of toast on either side. But with the first taste, I was sold. The sauce was so good, I could have turned into a two-year-old and licked my plate. The shrimp, sausage, and grits were equally tasty and filling. I would definitely order this dish again! Atmosphere is a divey-bar, it's not fancy, and the crowd was a little loud, but not so much that you couldn't have a decent conversation. Obviously a lot of regulars, but I felt welcomed and valued. Service was excellent - I was seated quickly, served quickly, and made to feel at home. The owner introduced himself at one point, and asked how my meal was. It was busy, but I didn't feel at any point like I got anything but great service. Price was extremely reasonable - $18 for dinner and a (GENEROUS) glass of wine.

Great food and atmosphere. Had the oysters which were excellent, gator bites and blackened grouper. Big fat meaty filets cooked perfectly. Our first time there and Mark, the owner came by to check on us. We have tried to go in the past but it is always packed! We went on a Wednesday night to assure we got in and it wasn't a problem. You will enjoy the food and atmosphere for sure!

We were headed to Taco Mac and passed by it, causing us to turnaround in the parking lot of this strip mall. Suddenly we got a craving for seafood and decided to try this place out. It was Friday around 8pn and there was a small crown and supposedly a 30 minute wait. Luckily, we found two seats at the bar and hung out there. It's a lively place with live music and a place for kids or adults to play video games. I enjoyed a couple of Hurricanes and my friend ordered oysters. I'm not a fan of those but he loved them. We got several opinions from other bar guests about the menu and best picks. Everyone who already received their food spoke highly of whatever they ordered. I settled in on a simple shrimp basket and my friend had the Shrimp Po Boy. MMMMmmmmmmmmmm, it was delicious. The service is great, food came out a little slow but we didn't really mind since there was entertainment. I wanted to try dessert, but I didn't have room. Oh well, maybe next time. It's worth a visit if you're in the area.

This place is awesome! The atmosphere is spot on real beach/gulf feel. The decor is campy and fun and you just want to wear your flip flops when you head in there. The food is always fabulous, fresh and delicious. No matter what dish you pick you've got a winner. We especially love the raw oysters, very fresh and tasty. Service is always great, they are courteous, quick on their feet and the owner has stopped by our table at least once every time we've eaten there. They also have a game room in the back which I have seen lots of kids swarm to while their family waits for a table - if I let him I bet my husband would run over there too, I think there's and Xbox in there... If you haven't been, you should go and if you have been, you should go again!

This place is simply amazing I have always had excellent food, service, and the friendly staff make the experience one of the best in Gwinnett. The owner Mark will greet you with a friendly hello and make sure your experience will make you want to come back again and again. 5 stars across the board for this eatery.

I've eaten a lot of food in N.O. and when I heard the chef/owner was from there I had high expectations so I probably jinxed myself. I thought the atmosphere was nice and the servers good. But the food was...eh.... Unlike others, I was not a fan of the soup. The gumbo I thought was not good at all. I've eaten all over the French Quarter and I'd put Gulf Coast Grill somewhere in the middle of the pack.

Our fifth time there today and the service and food were exceptional as usual. I had the Oyster Basket (fresh an wonderful) and my wife tried one of their burgers and loved it! Happy First Anniversary Gulf Coast.

If you just want a basket and slow to inadequate service then you visit this off the shelf resturant. It appears the Management is trying hard but the ability to make this a better more adequate place is lacking ; don't ask them to step and use plates or develope or expect fish entree's ( basket or nothing). I guess that's why we will not return after several visits is not going to be a regular!

Service was attentive. The hushpuppies were really good. The shrimp po-boy was great (but the one at Rico's is slightly better). We also really enjoyed the peanut-butter pie. The place is a great addition to this area that is full of chain restaurants. We will gladly return.

The wife and I had a craving for oysters and fried seafood, and Gulf Coast Grill hit the spot on all counts. Both the food and service were very good. We started with some cold beers and a 1/2 dozen oysters. The beers were exceptionally cold and the oysters were fresh, briny, and delicious ($8 per 1/2 doz. the night we were there). They also brought out a sampler of soups for us to try (seafood gumbo, seafood bisque, and beef and vegetable). All 3 soups were very tasty, but we wanted to save as much room as possible for fried sea creatures. We split a fried catfish and fried shrimp platter, and both were great. The shrimp platter came with 15 nicely sized, and nicely fried, shrimp. The catfish was also very tasty. The platters also come with hush puppies (very good), fries, and coleslaw. They'll let you substitute any of the sides if you prefer. The service was also great. Our waiter was very attentive, and we didn't have to wait long for anything. We will definitely be back to try other offerrings. Plus, they have live music after 7pm on many nights. Gulf Coast Grill is definitely one of the best spots we've found for seafood in the area.

Just sat down with the wife and before I even had a sip of my beer, the owner comes over with beer and grapefruit vodka. Live music behind me and a dozen oysters in front of me...this place has it all. Great staff and a VERY welcoming atmosphere. Corporate America should take notes from this restaurant A+

My wife is from New Orleans and is a little homesick this time of year (Mardi Gras). She was longing for a Po Boy with REAL French bread. A random and hopeless Google search for "Po Boys in Suwanee" brought us to this place. The Po Boys were the real deal! Shrimp, Catfish, Oyster and Roast Beef w Gravy. The seafood for the Po Boys has a nice light cornmeal breading (the way it is supposed to be!) and the roast beef was from a real roast, not processed beef slices. The crab claw appetizer was awesome with a really nice sauce. They serve authentic New Orleans BBQ shrimp for those that know what this is. First time visitors get to try all the soups. Seafood Gumbo was authentic and great, seafood bisque was excellent, and chicken noodle soup of the day was perfect. They have fresh oysters and crawfish and the seafood comes in twice per week. Not a huge seafood menu, but a few nice fresh fish selections like Grouper and Mahi. The place has a nice environment with a coastal theme and a little stage where they have music in the evenings. There is a good sized bar and decent selection of beers. The Bloody Mary we saw looked like it was prepped with a lot of care...not just tomato juice and a splash of vodka, but a fully dressed Bloody with all the trimmings. The desserts looked fantastic. All handmade. Chocolate Bread Pudding, Caramel Cheese Cake, Italian wedding cake or wet cake or whatever, and of course key lime pie. Wish we had saved room for that. Prices are pretty good, especially for the quality. You can easily get away with 1/2 po boy and come away full. They also have a small kids lounge with a Wii and PlayStation. Nice touch. The owner came out and spoke to us briefly. The couple is from the TX and AL gulf coast region. He said they searched high and low to get the Po Boy bread right. It was really nice to see the owner come out and chat with guests. He seemed to really enjoy "living the dream", with a big smile on his face as he walked around the restaurant checking on guests. Ok so it's in a strip mall next to I-Hop but you can't take the Suwanee out of a place in Suwanee... Please go! It's only a 10 minute drive. This place needs to stay open!

I am very impressed with this place. The food is amazing and the lunch specials are great. Most of the specials include the entree, a drink a side. They do vary depending on what you order of course. We were told that the seafood is brought in fresh every other day and everything is made from scratch. Judging by the taste, I believe it. The waitress was really friendly and helpful as we had not been here before. It was a cold and rainey day. She brought out samples of the soup for us to try. The gumbo, bisque and beef soup. I tried them all and they tasted delicious. It is my understanding that the soup is made from scratch daily as well. I had the Shrimp Po Boy. I was very impressed with the Po Boy. It all tasted fresh and not frozen. The taste of everything on the Po Boy, including the sauce tasted great. A platter of the desserts were shown to us and they looked amazing. I will definitely be back to try more food and the desserts.

Big, cold, fresh raw oysters for about $9 or $10 per dozen. That's cheaper than shucking them yourself, and these are all great. The rest of the food is great too, and fresh - trucked in just for them. The staff is wonderful, the owner talks to all customers like they are family. Stop going to crappy chain restaurants, folks! This is the place to go!

Excellent food! I had the fried grouper meal with fries and cheese grits. The grouper was excellent and tasted fresh. The fries and cheese grits were good too. This was our first time in. Our server was very nice and personable. He even brought us a sample of the gumbo and shrimp bisque since we asked how they taste - both were excellent! We will definitely be back!

This place is great! The food is fresh and wonderful. We had oysters on the half shell that were delicious, the low country boil, the blackened mahi-mahi tacos (unbelievably good and highly recommended), and the peanut butter pie (there were four of us). Everything was yummy and the service was great. Have been here a few times now, and every time it's just as great! Finally, some great seafood in Suwanee!!

We've been debating whether or not to stop in at Gulf Coast Grill since it opened but have pretty high standards for seafood and weren't sure we were ready for disappointment. We finally decided to give this place a chance and I'm glad we did. Our experience was so positive that we returned the following week! Initial greeting at the door was friendly and prompt. The atmosphere was clean and inviting. Our server greeted us on both occasions within a few moments of being seated and took our drink orders. The menu is a good size - plenty of choices without being overwhelming. Food was delivered quickly and tasted great. The manager came by our table on both occasions to make sure everything was OK. Service was friendly and efficient. The check was dropped off and picked up promptly. Food: Shrimp and grits - really great choice. My wife is extremely opinionated where shrimp and grits are concerned and she loved this dish. Lots of shrimp which were perfectly cooked, very fresh taste, grits had great texture and flavor, sauce was really good and bright. She was so impressed that she ordered this again on our second visit and it was just as good the second time around. Props for consistency. Shrimp po' boy - another solid choice. The lunch serving is a half sandwich, side, and drink for $8. Sandwich had a healthy serving of shrimp dressed with a very good remoulade, not mayonnaise. The bread wasn't quite as crusty as I like but still good. They served an extra side of remoulade which I really appreciate - you can add to your po' boy to your liking and dip your fries/onion rings if you're so inclined (I was). Had fries on the first visit and onion rings on the second. Fries were decent but I'm not a connoisseur. Onion rings were great - very tasty batter and perfect crunch. Cup of gumbo - definitely good but not my favorite. This is a pretty thick gumbo with good flavor, a decent amount of seafood, hunks of sausage, and okra (love okra). I'm a fan of Pappadeaux style gumbo which has a darker roux, a thinner broth, and more seafood. At $1.65 less per cup, though, I prefer Gulf Coast's price! Peanut butter pie - homemade and awesome. Really large serving (we shared it and still took some home). Gulf Coast - keep doing what you're doing and we'll keep coming back. Definitely a fan.

My husband and I tried this restaurant last night. Wow, what a way to start off the year! This place is great! The food is good, and the servers are friendly. The owner even stopped by our table. The restaurant is locally owned by a husband and wife team. That is always a plus, as I like supporting local businesses. Prices are reasonable and you receive a lot of food with your meal. Now, I'll discuss our meal. We ordered the Blue crab and Artichoke Fondue appetizer. Outstanding. My husband and I almost fought over the last bite. My husband ordered the Fried Grouper basket. He really enjoyed it! I ordered the Sparky's Platter ( fried shrimp, fried catfish, fried oysters.). Great meal. Order this if you are hungry because it really is a platter! The shrimp dipping sauces are good. Ask for the Boom Boom sauce. Yummy! In closing, we will definitely eat here again.

We love this place. Friendly, attentive, knowledgeable staff who never forget our faces (we've been 3 times, I've been 4). It is not fancy-pants - a fun atmosphere (semi-loud when its packed). Good variety on the menu (plates, baskets, many sides). Great beer list and bartending drink skillz.. Really good music on weekends (NOT your garden-variety itinerant karaoke singer). I have eaten something different every time, and have always enjoyed my food. Fish tacos are wonderful, grouper is great, my son loves the fried shrimp basket. And we have NEVER passed up the peanut butter pie...to die for! The owner will frequently bring by samples of soup or a special drink they have.

I lived in Pensacola for 7 years and my wife is from the gulf coast. Walking into this place is just like being back on the gulf. Everytime my wife and I eat there we get to talk with the owner Mark. We get there about once or twice a month. We would eat there a lot more but I travel a lot and enjoy eating at home. I would recommend this place to anyone, it is a 5 star kind of place. Get there early on Fri or Sat night it is no secret how good this place is!!!

We stopped in here on a Saturday night with 4 adults and two small kids. The kids loved the ambiance with the live music and the good general hum to the place. Their fried grouper was incredible, as were the mahi fish tacos. The poblano cheese grits were very interesting and quite good. Very much a non-chain kind of establishment with a good feel and great food. The only minor tick mark would be the volume of the live music. I had a hard time hearing the servers and vice versa, as well as converse with other members of our party. Otherwise, superb!

This is a great addition to Suwanee dining! We've been three times and are very pleased with food, service, and prices. It's comparable to our favorite Gulf Coast beach restaurants, and I think we'll become regulars here! The shrimp and grits and shrimp creole are outstanding!

I had high expectations of this place because when I pass by there are always cars littering the parking lot. I went for lunch on Saturday (3/23/13) and ordered the shrimp Po' Boy and sweet potato fries. The wait was average and the server was nice enough. Once the food came, I noticed that the presentation was nice and I couldn't wait to dig in. I ordered my sauce on the side and lifted the bread to my Po Boy and noticed that the shrimp were naked and barely had any breading on them. I popped one in my mouth and they were void of flavor as well. I put hot sauce on them to make them edible but noticed that instead of the bread being toasted...it was just stale and was falling apart. I ended up gutting out the bread so that I wouldn't have a crumb-y mess in my mouth. I then went to the sweet potato fries. They were dark but I suspected they had cinnamon on them for flavor...wrong... they were just burned. I told my waiter about them and asked for Onion rings...he put that order in. The manager came and asked if I liked the fries..and I told her they were burned but the waiter was getting me some onion rings. I ate my sandwich...and still no onion rings. My waiter brought my ticket...still no onion rings. Finally the manger brought my O-rings and said she thought my waiter had run them out to me. She apologized and offered some dessert for my experience and time. That was really nice. I can say that the onion rings and the Mississippi mud pie/cake thingy were both REALLY good. I don't think I'll be visiting again anytime soon. I will probably let them get their groove and try them again sometime later in the year. I see this place as a more casual version of Joe's Crab Shack...without Joe's extensive menu.

It's about time Gwinnett!! Fresh seafood, great service and reasonable prices! Oh, and entertainment also! Had lunch during the week - fish tacos were delicious - comes with avocado and cole slaw and was a good portion for lunch. I chose the sweet potato fries which were great as well. Our server brought over 2 samples of soup to try and both were delicious. All this for $8.00!! The owner came over and was very pleasant. I will be back again!!

Well, I was very anxious to try this new seafood restaurant in Suwanee. Seafood is by far my favorite food and I was hoping this would be a regular dining spot for me. With one existing and two new seafood restaurants (local, not chains) in the area, I was eager to compare because the other 3 are very good. The restaurant is clean and the staff is very friendly. I can usually tell how the food is going to be by the quality of the sweet tea. The tea was strong and not very sweet. I was still hoping for the best. I ordered the lunch special (which is a good deal) of fish tacos and fries. The fries were good but the tacos were average. The mahi-mahi was supposed to be blackened and came out with no flavor. And, there was not much fish in the tacos. I did glance at the dinner prices and I think their prices are too expensive. For example, a grilled grouper sandwich is $13.50. I can get the same sandwich at my favorite seafood restaurant in Lville for $8.95. And, the fried grouper basket is $14 at Gulf Coast and is $11.95 at the other restaurant. I like cheaper and better. There are two other new seafood restaurants (one in Buford and one in Dacula) that I think rank above this one too. The homemade desserts are tempting but the main course is not enough to get me back there. Maybe it will improve with time and also align their prices better with the competition especially in a tough economy.

We had been hearing good things about this place and decided to try it on a Saturday night. We were not disappointed! Arrived around 7:00 and were told there would be a 10 minute wait but were seated in less than five. The only open table was directly in front of the live music, but the volume of both the microphone and instruments was reasonable and did not pose a problem, even at such close proximity. Our server was very friendly and efficient. She brought us a sampler with three soups to try upon learning this was our first visit. She was knowledgeable about the menu and easily able to answer our questions. The owner, Mark, stopped by several times to check on us and we very much enjoyed talking with him. He has clearly done his homework and knows his seafood as well as possesses good business sense, which makes us happy since we want Gulf Coast Grill to be around for a LONG time! We love alligator and were excited to see it on the menu. It's hard to do gator right, but this appetizer was well seasoned and nicely cooked. The large portion of fried shrimp in the shrimp basket was lightly battered and obviously very fresh. Ditto for the oysters in the po'boy. We love the attention to detail, right down to real bacon on the salad and name-brand ketchup on the tables - none of that generic Sysco stuff! We didn't think we had room left for dessert, but we are glad we tried Amy's chocolate peanut butter pie - out of this world! Great food, atmosphere, location, prices....We can't wait to go back!

I can't believe we've JUST discovered this fantastic restaurant! The food is delicious, reasonably priced and fresh. It's a family friendly environment and the staff are inviting and very attentive. We ordered two kids meals and were pleasantly surprised that their "fish fingers" were hand breaded and not out of a box like so many other "seafood" restaurants :) My husband ordered the Low Country Boil and I ordered the Shrimp and Grits...along with a cocktail. Both meals came with a salad, which was crisp and tasty. There was so much food that I couldn't even finish mine, but it was DELICIOUS and half the price of other restaurants. We found out that the restaurant is owned by a husband and wife and she makes all of the desserts...of course we HAD to try a few :) We ordered the peanut butter pie, key lime pie and Coca-Cola chocolate cake and weren't disappointed. Kids eat free with an adult on Monday and Tuesday, they have trivia on Thursdays and I believe a live band on Fridays and Saturdays. We're definitely going to add this to our weekly restaurant list!!!

Never been so excited to write a review - this place is amazing! Am guilty of whining about the dearth of truly tasty places in Suwanee, and of enviously reading in the AJC about all the great places ITP and being too lazy to drive 30-40-60 minutes to go eat. Well, now we have a rave-worthy seafood restaurant here in our backyard! We were greeted with an open door and enthusiastic welcome and introduction - the place has been extensively renovated and is bright, fresh, clean, comfortable, and "oceanic" - pretty mural brings to mind Corona ads: aaah. Service was impeccable from beginning to end, very personal and friendly while in a casual, laid back atmosphere. Saw an unknown beer on tap, asked about it, and was given a sample: Monday Night Brewing (Smyrna!) Eye Patch Ale, a very easy to drink IPA-ish selection that goes great with fresh seafood. We ordered the oyster basket and mahi tacos; substituted sides and got pepper-cheese grits (out of this world!). I ordered a small house salad (very generous portion) - fresh and crispy with a good mix of lettuces, veggies, cheese and chipotle ranch dressing that tasted home-made, recommended by Reed, our server extraordinaire. DH's tacos were zesty and hearty; my fried oysters were super-fresh, tender, and came with two sauces, one Asian-inspired and one more Cajun-style: both delish! The oysters were so good, though, I enjoyed them just as much with a squirt of lemon and dash of hot sauce - high enough quality to stand on their own, although I did love the sauces. My basket came with fries, too, which I felt compelled to taste even though I had way more food than I could handle. Even the fries were out of the ordinary - great texture, fresh potato taste...am a little suspicious of what they were fried in, because they made me think of duck fat fries, only instead of duck fat, bacon? Whatever the secret, it was good enough for us to eat way more than only the taste we'd planned on. Reed introduced us to the owner who was checking up to make sure everybody is happy; he's from the gulf coast of Alabama and evidently really knows his seafood! The owner's wife makes desserts - we were way too full to indulge but may go back just for dessert next time after seeing the tray - home-made cheesecake, key lime pie, peanut butter pie... The entire staff really seemed to go all out to ensure that everything was perfect from beginning to end. There's a little stage for a jazz band that starts later, and also plays during Sunday brunch (a great seafood place AND a weekend breakfast place in Suwanee in one fell swoop?!?! We must have been very good this year!). I know this seems a little (a lot?) gushy, but we were so thrilled with our experience and want to get the word out so other like-minded (like-tasted?) foodie friends in the area can enjoy as well. Gulf Coast Grill, in my opinion, is a treasure unto itself as a seafood restaurant, and somewhat of a miracle for Suwanee. Now the OTP peeps can be envious of us!

Bright, friendly, and comfortable atmosphere matched with wonderful food at affordable prices! Very customer focused! Been here twice this week alone! Can't wait to try the rest of the menu!

Bar is light on bourbons which is my major beef, with the popularity of whiskey and bourbons right now let's go guys, one whiskey (Wild Turkey Honey) doesn't cut it! Food is very good, the shrimp and grits is possibly the best next to Marlow's. I had a burger there but I wouldn't suggest that again, stick with the seafood. Desserts are ridiculous, the owner makes them on-site and so flipping amazing. One of the few places around that has actual homemade whipped cream which should tell you something. Thanks for the Wii game room for the kids also, Friday and Saturday nights are packed so it's good to have something for the kids to do and they look forward to going to GCG because of it. All in all I love the place, love how the owner comes by and chats with tables, hope they can expand to accompany more tables because if you don't get there by 6pm on Fri/Sat prepare for a looooong wait. One last thing and I wish I could ding them on stars for this but I'm not that uncool, allow call-in ahead to be put on the waiting list. If people don't show then move to the next person---no loss to the restaurant. I can never understand why restaurants resist that and it's made us eat elsewhere on several occasions that GCG would have seen $$$ from...
