Food was on point today!!! This location is the only one open and Sunday! I had to hit them before I left GA!!! I know I shouldn't do this to my stomach before I hit the road, but o well I'll worry about that at least two hours from now! LoL

Yum! I had the fried catfish with collards and mac-n-cheese. A little mini sweet potato pie was just the right way to end the meal. I will definitely go back to the Smyrna location (Camp Creek location is great too). Basic table and chair set up. Definitely not the place to dine in with a large group. Like me, you may just want to get your food to go.

Smyrna's "This Is It BBQ and Seafood" is part of a local and much beloved chain of restaurants built on BBQ and fish shack delicacies. It's southern and soul food served up right out of a hot bar, cafeteria-style. It's been a while since I ate at the original location, so I decided to try "This Is It" up here. Unfortunately I'm not quite sure what "It" was. Is "it" okay, but not outstanding BBQ? (Though high marks for the hot sauce.) Is "it" pretty good collards, lousy coleslaw, and very good mac and cheese? Or is "it" the fact that the guy (presumably the manager/owner from the way he acted) automatically upcharged me for an extra large drink when I ordered a Coke rather than ask me "what size?" first? (Yeah, I know it's only 20 extra cents, but the principle ticks me off.) So to me, "it" is two very inglorious stars.

I've been hearing about this place since I moved to the area and finally decided to drive out to a location (there aren't any near me) and test it out...I was incredibly disappointed!!!! I ordered a variety of side items to get a good feel for the food, and it was TERRIBLE. The only thing that was tasty was the Sweet Potato Soufle', which is really hard to mess up. None of the food was seasoned properly. Definitely not my idea of SOUL FOOD!!!!

This place has some amazing wings with there style sauce. The sauce is inbetween a barbeque and hot sauce mix but when they fry it its not your ordinary batter. I love the collards here alot of flavor. I will say i dont stray to far from the wings and collards but i can say its amazing here. I wish they would make one of these franchises in kennesaw. PLEASE!

Went here recently and found the beef ribs to be terrible. Tough as nails and there is too much sauce which I wouldn't mind if were any good. Collards were terrible but the Brunswick stew was good. Not worth it with some vastly superior options nearby.

Always one of my go to spots. Me and my boyfriend eat here all the time. I love the tilapia, shrimp, rib tips, macaroni, baked beans and THE BANANA PUDDING

I've been to this location a few times and while the food is usually mediocre to average... This last visit was absolutely terrible. Rarely am I compelled to write a review but the experience we had last night was so disappointing I had to. The crown jewel of this location had been the sweet potato soufflé... Well I can't say that anymore as what I had last night was bland, barely sweet and (somehow) extremely oily. The mac and cheese was not seasoned and had a strange aftertaste and the corn muffin was over cooked / borderline burnt. Meatloaf is usually the Wednesday special but since they didn't have that, I got the catfish which was really the only edible part of my meal. I would give them only 1 star however the service was friendly which we appreciated. So they get an extra star for service. Sadly, it looks like this may be my last visit to this location because of the decline of the food. And it's too bad because I live so close to the place and I love my soul food. I guess it's on to the next.

This was my first time eating here, although the wait for the food was long...it was well worth it to me. The sweet potato casserole had to be the BEST, just like candy. I'll be going back!

It's been years last time I visited this location. Very disappointed in the time it takes to get your food. And for the money everything should be perfect. Taste of the 3" high whiting sandwich was OK just piled to high to eat without it falling apart. You can't have a good meal without dessert. I tried the key line cake that I was told was FRESH. Well it crumbled once my fork touched it and the icing fell off. Moisture no where to be found. So I called the cashier over because I didn't wanna say anything in front of the customers and he got with the Mgr and it was exchanged for the worst banana pudding I ever had. Lesson learned.

This was my first time trying This is it. I was excited because I heard good reviews however you always have to see for yourself. The food looked good but once I tasted it it had no flavor. I heard the Camp Creek location is way better, but from this one visit at this location it would be awhile before I waste $15 on a meal. The best thing was my xlarge peach drink. That was worth my $2.59. And their score is a 89. Thy need to do some renovations or something. They don't even look like they get business a lot.

I like the food here. It is open late everyday and the food is fresh. A few of my favs: the stuffing, wait sorry, I was told to say it the "Southern Way" Dressing! lol. As I was corrected by the owner (Who also reminded me I'm not in the North anymore, lol). The Mac n' Cheese, Lima beans with okra, and the cornbread muffins are to die for!!! I always take my order to go. The space is small and sometimes the tables are sticky. Overall, good fast southern food.

So the other day, I didn't bring lunch from home, didn't want a sit down restaurant because I was short on time, and didn't want fast food. My co-worker and I remembered going to Nirvana and saw This is It BBQ & Seafood and was excited because I really liked it. I had it in the Lithonia location. The food was finger licking good and the staff was friendly. She remembered seeing it featured on Real Housewives of Atlanta. Since it's her first time ever, I told her it was cafetaria style. She really liked the choices. She got the pork ribs, green beans, and collard greens. Smryna location is a lot smaller than the Lithonia location. There were more choices. The chicken wasn't out to choose but they did serve it and got it from the back for me. Therefore, I got dark chicken, green beans, and sweet potatoes. We took it back to work and ate in the cafetaria and enjoyed it so much. She gotten so much ribs and wasn't to finish. We both enjoyed the green beans. She says the collard greens was good too. The dark chicken I had was so good. The hot bbq sauce that was drizzled on top hit the spot. The sweet potato was so creamy and sweet. I loved it. I cannot wait to go back.

After church service on September 6, 2015, my wife and I decided to dine at THIS IS IT SMYRNA. We are fairly new to the metro Atlanta area and had seen the THIS IS IT commercials on TV. We traveled approximately 35 miles to specifically have a good family southern/soul-food meal. Our total meal cost equated to $42.02, we immediately noticed that the pricing was higher than what we have typically paid for family southern/soul-food meals for two people. We also noticed that the food visually looked horrible. (It looked pre-cooked as well as over-cooked.) After asking the Cashier about the pricing, he did not provide any first time customer satisfying experience. We decided to wait until the order was prepared, in which, the food is already prepared, but just needed to be placed onto plates/containers. While waiting .... We googled the THIS IS IT SMYRNA website and it mentioned that there were meal deals for two at $25.00 total. At that point in time, which it was 15 minutes later, we asked the Cashier to cancel the order and provide us with a refund. This was a very poor customer experience, and we both do not plan to return.

Not a fan of this location, must be a franchise. This food is nowhere close to the other main location (camp creek & Panola Rd). The food is either greasy or dry and it tastes the way it looks. Everything needs to be redone from top to bottom, front of the house to the back of the house. The owners need to reinvest back into the restaurant. It has the same potential as their flagship restaurants.

  • Latesha G.

This place was expensive the food wasn't fresh. I would compare the quality to mc Donald's mc rib with the cost famous daves. The staff wasn't friendly the place was dirty. The get an f for quality, atmosphere and price. Your better off getting bbq from a street truck.

We had the unfortunate experience of trying this location recently rather than going to the Camp Creek location which is where we normally eat. First of all the Smyrna location is not very clean. After I mentioned it while waiting for our food, Mr. Jones asked his young employee to come and clean the tables to which he cleaned only half of them and then left the cleaning supplies on the tables. The tables were heavily scratched up and desperately needed replacing. While the workers were nice, they were Latina and had difficulty understanding English. They gave us the wrong food at least twice during the transaction. Half of the hair of one female employee was uncovered which was concerning as it was long and could have easily gotten in the food that she was preparing for customers, including myself. Mr. Jones was very odd and was difficult to communicate with. The food was mediocre and certainly NOT representative of true This Is It food. This place should NOT be allowed to use the This Is It name as they are a very poor representation of the restaurant. One member in my party had heard rave reviews of This Is It, but had never eaten there and I was completely embarrassed that I chose this location as an introduction to the restaurant. Mr. Jones stated that people tend to look down on this location because is it not as large as the other ones, but the real reason is because this place is truly representative of a "hole in the wall." Do yourself a favor and avoid it at all cost.

Lived in this neighborhood for the last year..always seen it passing by. Today I went in the wait wasn't long and I was sooooooo amazed about how goooooood the food was! I'm sad I never came here because I'm moving next week but hopefully there is one in my new area!... Good customer service!

The worst! After seeing the commercial, I couldn't wait to try the food. Disappointed would be an understatement. Simply hated the service, the price and four thumbs down on the food.

I really wanted to like this place... I really really do. But, on my first visit, my chicken was NOT cooked at all. I ordered the dark meat chicken bbq meal. We waited for like thirty minutes- it was a to go- and when we came home, it was a big disappointment. I was very very hungry, but when I put my fork through it, blood just oozed out all over my plate. Yuck - I didnt eat any of the chicken. But hey! At least I still had my sides which were collard greens and pinto beans. Now, the collard greens were awesome, but not a big fan of the pinto beans. Then, I called the store to tell them about it and they fixed it right away by allowing me to get a ten piece chicken meal for free. Now THAT was some of the best chicken I have ever had! I highly highly recommend. I again asked for a side of collard greens and some mashed potatoes with gravy. Both sides are good. But some of the sides they had on display had clearly been sitting there uncovered for many hours. I am still contemplating whether or not I will come back to this place. I mean, that chicken was really good though ...

Uhm, this is the first fast food place that I've ever been carded for to purchase food. So, yeah. There is that. This Is It is a chain BBQ/Soul Food joint, nothing more and nothing less. That means you shouldn't expect slap your momma good food. The mac in cheese is surprisingly creamy, but definitely needs some doctoring up, and the rib tips are tender but nothing stellar. If you aren't a soul food/BBQ connoisseur, This Is It will work for you. If you are, then be sure you know that a ittle bit of extra loving is needed.

Customer service is a big deal for me which is why I had to give this place a lower rating. The food is pretty good, the service...not so much. I used to frequent this place , but customer service has been consistently sub par since the new owner Mr. Jones. Also, this location does not participate in any promotions offered by the company because it's a franchise.

  • Charles W.

"This is It" found myself asking that the 40 minutes I sat there eating the food. BBQ chicken wasn't bad (you really can't mess up chicken), but the family got Catfish (too much cornmeal & salty), rib tips (TOUGH), Shrimp (so so). Peach Cobbler and Red Velvet was garbage! Service was a little hood but I'm from Compton so that was welcoming! LOL... But in the south my expectations was the food would be much better. But, I guess "This Is It"!

After waiting for my food for 25 minutes I was told that the ticket had not been placed due to a new system they are implementing and are working through the bugs with. I was a little more than upset due to the long wait but the owner have me a refund and as well as gave me a free lunch plate with my choice of selections. He went above and beyond to rectify the situation and ensure customer satisfaction!!!! I will definitely visits this restaurant again!!!

A bit pricey but I won't say it isn't worth it. I got 2pc tilapia dinner with 2 sides for $10.99. A small dessert was around $3. The food is under a heat lamp but it was still pretty fresh. I'll be back but not often.

  • Josh B.

The "Special" Crunchy rice , 1 way way overdone pork chop, soul-less collards , canned green beans, cornbread - $10.23 with tax (no drink) Threw most of it in the trash !

  • K K.

service is good and they are very friendly. For the most part, the food was nothing spectacular but was better than most bbq I've had. I had the beef rib dinner meat was a little tough but the flavor was good, also had the rib tip dinner which was better than the beef ribs. Had collards and the Mac and cheese, and baked beans as sides, collards above average, Mac and cheese creamy yet lacking in flavor, baked beans were very good. Had the peach cobbler for dessert once again nothing spectacular but good. Overall an average experience. Main knock for them is their prices a little high for most bbq I've had.

  • Kevin W.

This is a place that I will prolly not make my way back to it. The food was not that good for the amount charged. I had greens, mac and cheese, and rib tips. The mac and cheese was good. The greens were ok. The rib tips were luke warm and mostly fat and bones. The prices are pretty steep for what I can get closer to my house and cheaper. The lady also charged me for an XL drink when I was dining in. Not a big concern when it comes to money but squeezing customers for every last penny is not good.

  • Latasha D.

so slow getting your food...we sat here and watched 7 people get there order before ours...i try to sit here and support local business but this is crazy amd my bf just got his tilapia and its pink on the inside..he was so hungry and just said forget it and picked at it...for paying about 30$$ thats a little ridiculous...

Not impressed with either the food or the service. Waited 45 minutes for my order. When I inquired about my order, the manager did not address my frustration or apologize for the wait, and responded to me like I was the one with the problem for being frustrated. The price we paid was definitely too much for what we received. The catfish was dry, not really hot and the peach cobbler was all crust, no peaches. I don't mind paying more when the food is good. I definitely will not go back to this location. Will be hard-pressed to visit any other location at this point. Great concept. Poor delivery. What a shame!

  • Kyra M.

This location is small, no frills and cafeteria style. Had Sunday dinner here, so lets keep this short and sweet. Beef Ribs- Tough, yet very good sauce (try pork) Mac & Cz- Pretty darn good, no complaints Collards- Tasty wit jus a tad much vinegar Cornbread- Average, I like mine Jiffy sweet Peach cobbler- Waaaaay to doughy and diabetic sweet. If I go back it will be, 1. in Lithonia or Camp Creek locations (bigger more choices) 2. giving the seafood a chance 3. trying the red velvet cake

    (3)
  • Kisha M.

I finally succumbed to the commercials and tried this place out last week. For what it is- a dive, no frills establishment, it works. I can go here and get a fix for "soul food" and I don't have to worry about how I look. Or I can get it to go and eat at home. The rib tips were pretty good, but a little tough. The mac and cheese was really good. The sweet potatoes were good. The cornbread was awful. The people were friendly and I think the prices are fair.

    (3)
  • Najah H.

With this location being here for so many years, it really hasn't done much to improve the food or atmosphere. I think that's because there's little to no real competition so they just don't bother. The best thing is the bbq sauce - everything else always comes up over-cooked, over-seasoned or just doesn't have an appetizing look. I've been sucked in just because I wanted some tasty soul food but it's worth driving elsewhere to be satisfied. This location leaves you empty.

    (3)
  • Tristan A.

That mac n cheese tho???? That stuffing tho???? That cornbread tho??? Its pretty good. Small, clean location. I had some small char grilled wings that were pretty good. Looking forward to trying out the ribs and more things off their menu. Will definitely return..maybe tonight.

  • Tran N.

This is It! LOL, I used to always see the commercials late at night. Had lunch here, and decided on the 4 beef rib plate with mac n chz and sweet potato souffle. The ribs were really sauced, but the sauce is insane. My sides were also good, and so was the cornbread. I couldn't eat it all, so I saved the rest for the next day for some more good eatin'! The place isn't fancy, mostly an in & out joint. The food is served mostly cafeteria-style; so I suggest getting here early for freshness (and first serving of the tray). Man, oh Man I don't know how I lasted the rest of my work day without falling asleep! Great Southern food, would come again with an alotted time for a nap.

    (4)
  • Nicole P.

I am here at least once a week getting either the BBQ ribs with extra sauce or the BBQ pulled pork sandwich with extra sauce. The sauce is a perfect combination of sweet and tangy but oh so tasty. The best sides I had here were the collard greens and the black eyed peas...The sides are fresh and delicious. I am a huge fan and can't wait to eat here again!!

+1 star for the ribs +1 star for the Mac N Cheez +1 star for the BBQ wings +1 star for being open late! --- 4 stars

I really love the TII franchise, but every time I visit the Smyrna location I am always underwhelmed; the food is never quite as good as my regular locations (Camp Creek & Memorial drive). Today I ordered beef ribs, black eyed peas and collards. The beef ribs were VERY tough and very fatty. They also tasted like they were prepared a few days prior and microwaved before serving. The black eyed peas were not thoroughly cooked so they tasted very gritty. The collards were okay but lacked seasoning.... def not the soul food flavor you would expect. So all in all...food not terrible but if you are used to other TII locations, this one will disappoint. I guess it's good soul food considering location....

    (2)
  • Andra F.

The ribs were parboiled and bland. It seems inconceivable that no one has told this organization to change they way they cook their ribs. I'm a student of grilling ribs. I'm a wanna be grill master. On my worst day, I can still put out a better product. You don't boil ribs! That is a sin in the world of grilling. Spare ribs are not suppose to fall of the bone. If they do, they you need to question this.

  • Steve B.

Soulfood here is good. Best thing going is their fried chicken ad catfish. Love the collard greens. Homemade lemonade is made church fresh. I just don't think the food is fresh enough as it has been left out. Decent fix for a crave Overall grade: B+

For a small place..the blackened tilapia i had was very good, along with the sweet potato souffle. Went there twice and got the same thing.

I was in the mood for soulfood and I search to see who was open late. This is it popped up in my google search. So.. i hoped in the car and took a trip to this is it. Went inside this small hot box place, that should have been a red flag. THIS place is horrible. THE FOOD IS OVER PRICED FOR REAL! Two dinner plates was 34.00. I almost pissed myslef when she stated that. I was beyond furious. Not only did i pay 34.00 THE FOOD WAS horrible!! Bland, cold, over season. The only thing that was worth 34.00 was the BBQ sauce. Very tasty

This is my first review so, obviously I was compelled to write. First off, the lady working behind the counter was nice. She is the only reason I'm giving 2 stars. The food was simply not fresh! I should have known since my co-workers and I were the only customers there at noon on a workday. I had the chicken, collards, and mac and cheese. One word......terrible! The chicken had to be reheated. It was tough, dry, and drowning in bbq sauce. The collards were average, and the mac and cheese was oily. My co-workers both had fried catfish and french fries and both said it was all just ok.

working in atlanta and going to other places for lunch, i have eaten at quite a few soul food places. what i find is everyone has their idea of what bbq and soul food taste like and how it's prepared. i have heard about this chain for years and had my first experience at this location and with this chain a few weeks ago. needless to say this is not bbq and it's not soul food in my opinion. i tried the rib tips and i was expecting a smoked or grilled taste but it just taste like the meat had been boiled and finished off in the oven with bbq sauce. i had the oxtails and although they were good, they wouldn't hurt from a little more time cooking to finish tendering them on up. they were pretty big cuts. the sides were okay. the sweet potato pie was fine. growing up in the south i was blessed to be around people who knew how to really cook (in my opinion) and this was not it. when i want bbq, i want bbq not boiled meat with sauce on it. i want to see a smoke ring, i want to taste the hickory flavor or whatever wood that is used to flavor the meat. i just feel like this place falls short. but so does a lot of other places here in atlanta and surrounding that tries to call themselves soul food places or tries to call themselves bbq joints. the customer service at this location is very good. but i don't think i will be back anytime soon.

Still gross. I tried again the other day out of desperation. they have limited choices, the food is not good and it does not look appetizing at all.

If your woman doesn't want to cook and you need to get your southern home cooking groove on, then this is the place. Took the family the other day and the food was excellent. Mac and Cheese, Collard Green, and their Potato Salad is to die for. They make a mean Peach Cobbler too. Highly recommend for those southern cookin' lovers out there.

  • Stuart M.

Maybe my expectations were too high (because I figured bad places don't have 6 locations), but I wasn't impressed. The food wasn't bad, in fact, it was good, but it wasn't great or anything to write home about. The ribs were huge and a tad bit tougher than I prefer (And, my God, they were slathered--drenched, even--in sauce; way too much for my tastes). The greens were decent, as was the mac-n-cheese (OK Cafe is the standard by which I measure all mac-n-cheese). We did get a lot for the money. Using a restaurant.com gift certificate, we paid $18 and had enough food for 2 people that day, and a complete meal for 2 people the next day. Overall, it wasn't a bad experience, and I might go back, but it isn't likely--not when OK Cafe is a few minutes away.

I've lived in the Cumberland area for the past 10years.There really aren't too many soul food restaurants in the area that are decent. Usually I will just suck it up and drive down to Atlanta for Busy Bee. Seeing how Busy Bee has jacked their prices and lowered their food portions, I decided to go to This Is It. I've eaten at this place before, and was disappointed. I figured though after a few years, maybe the food has changed. Well, it seemed to have changed for the worst. I ordered the mac and cheese, dressing, and spicy 1/2 chicken. Despite the chicken being overly drowned in bbq, it still was very dry. It seemed as if this chicken had been sitting in the refridgerator for days, and had been microwaved. The mac and cheese was runny and no taste. I didn't think many people could mess up mac and cheese. The only good thing about the meal was the dressing, and I think that's only because I was feenin for dressing for a while (thanksgiving on my mind lol). Any how, I think i will just suck it up and continue on down to Busy Bee. I guess you pay for what you get. This is It needs a reality check from Gordon Ramsay. This place is nasty. Don't let the pictures fool you.

The ribs were tender and juicy. Great BBQ sauce and hot sauce too. WARNING: Horrible Brunswick stew (really really bad). Completely unpalatable. Everything else was decent: Collard greens, banana pudding, fried okra, fried whiting. God damn we ate a lot.

    (3)
  • marci m.

Outrageous. Went today for lunch and was pleasantly surprised that they have fried whiting. Had the 2 pc fried whiting with greens and mac and hushpuppies. Outstanding.. Fish fried and seasoned to perfection and the hushpuppies are to die for. Greens and mac and cheese perfect. Prices reasonable and very clean environment. Cant wait to try something else on the menue I will be back often. Thanks for a great experience.

Soul food, may not be the considered " healthy" but it certainly makes you feel good. "This is it" certainly provides all of your staple southern " fixins" I primarily get the BBQ items , but they also offer fried seafood selections . The killer application here is the ribs, hands down. They don't tease you with a wimpy sauce from a jar, they give you the home made good stuff. the Sauce was spicy and vinegar-y, with the consistency of sweet and sour sauce. Just the way i like it! Most meals come with 2 sides commonly referred to as "vegetables" Keeping with southern tradition: Mac-n-cheese counts as a vegetable. This is the place if you want to get Chitterlings or sweet potato casserole. The BBQ baked beans are sweet and tangy, and darks as molasses. The lunch specials during the week are around $4. You will have a hard time beating that.

My Husband and I just moved here from Hollywood. We are not familiar with BBQ dishes being from the west coast however; we wanted to try some BBQ places now that where living in the South. This place, wasn't friendly, we ordered Ribs tips dinners. Since it was really hot this day, my husband stated to the cashier " is it always this hot in Atlanta, can we order two drinks? After paying for everything, we went to fill our cups to learn THEY HAD NO ICE in this establishment. We asked if they could refund our money back on drinks, and was told NO. The no ice issue should have been told to customers before they asked for a drink especially, since it was hot that day! The service was slow, took them at least 13mins before we received our food, we counted and the ribs were not hot.

I'm really upset with myself that I've lived in Smyrna for nearly 7 years and up until yesterday had never tried This Is It. OH. MY. GOD. First of all, the selection was almost overwhelming. Being a bbq lover, I couldn't decide on pulled pork, bbq chicken, fried tilapia and the ribs. I was really craving ribs (and I absolutely love beef ribs) and since Cheesecake Factory removed them from their menu, have not found a nearby alternative, jumped at the chance. For my second meat, I settled on the bbq chicken breast. The sauce was wonderfully sweet and spicy and the meat tender. My only points of contention was that the ribs were a little fatty and somewhat tough and the mac and cheese could use a little more "umph"-but they were tasty. The to-go container was bursting at the seams! For sides, once again, there was yet so much to pick from. Only coming into myself as a lover of soul food in the past 4 years, I had to have the collard greens, mac and cheese and an extra side of potato salad. UMMMMMM UMMM GOOD!!! My tab (for a two meat, 3 veggie combo was slightly pricey at $19, but every bit worth it!) By the register, there was a dessert case filled to the rim with all sorts of sinful baked goods- german chocolate cake, red velvet cake, coconut cake...but I can't eat sweets right now- TORTURE, I tell you. Service was very polite and professional-both the young lady and the young man that took and packaged my order were friendly and outgoing, and definitely made a memorable experience. Actually I shouldn't be doing this review right now, as I'm at my desk at work and didn't have any leftovers to bring for lunch. Remembering is torture! But THIS IS IT, you definitely have a new fan in me!

It's unfortunate that this restaurant does not live up to their potential. The food is really good, minus the ribs (you don't know ribs if you think the ribs are good). The inside environment is a bit old and dirty. Obviously they are much more concerned with the food than the environment, which is fine but an old dirty environment takes away from the quality of the food. Some nice new tables, a little attention to the dining area, and workers that seem happy to serve their customers would go a LONG way for this restaurant. Especially since the average plate is $12-15! P.S. don't serve old cornbread...we can tell...
