I was in the area for work and came by here for dinner. It was a Wed night 8pm and I didn't think I would have to wait, but I did! There was quite a lot of people but one of the rooms had a private party; once they left they were able to seat is pretty quickly. Emily was my waitress and she was such a sweetheart! So accommodating and making sure everything was taken care of. I ordered shrimp and grits with a Cesar salad. Amazing! There was a lot of shrimp and it was cooked perfectly. The bread basket that came with it was also good and hard to not eat it all! The only thing that I would say was that it was a bit hot in there but the food made up for it :) If I am ever in the area, I would definitely come back and would like to try lunch.

We learned about Toucans from our tennis buddies there for the Georgia State Championships. There are around 1000+ tennis players from all over Georgia there this weekend every year. This is a great experience. The menu is wide enough to suit lots of people. Good for people who like creative cooking.

First, the bread (complimentary) was fresh, warm, and delicious. The herb butter was perfect. Then came the tomato dill soup. I ordered the bowl ($6.50) because, having skipped lunch, I was hungrier than normal. The good news is that it was delicious. The dill was prominent and the puree was not so much that it lacked texture. The bad? The soup was 6 inches wide and maybe a half inch deep. Maybe. I could submerge my spoon to the bottom and still see spoon! Far too little soup for a bowl; it had me wondering how small their cup was. The Caesar salad (which came with the entree) was pretty basic, and there was almost no dressing at all. Maybe they're rationing soup and salad dressing? My entree was Chicken Picatta ($14), and it was very good. Above average but not mind-blowing either. The capers and lemon flavors were spot on but it was a little saltier than I'd prefer. It didn't help that the tap water in Savannah is almost undrinkable if you're not used to it. (and I'm not) There were two average-sized chicken breasts, and they were tender and moist. It was enough to fill me up overall. On the whole, it was a good meal. The server (Dalton) was attentive and offered a couple of recommendations even though he was fairly new. He recommended the soup, and that was the best part of the meal.

We have eaten at fine restaurants all over, and I love to cook as well. My husband and I agree that the clam linguini was ABSOLUTELY the best we have ever eaten. It was a Chef's Special, and we hope it becomes a regular menu item. My husband had the chicken piccata from the main menu.. It was PERFECT. We are living in the Historic District of Savannah during the winter months, and found this gem online. We will definitely become regulars! Perfect service, quaint, low-key atmosphere, very relaxing and very classy without being stuffy. We are CRAZY about this place.

We had a wonderful meal at Toucan Cafe! Our waiter, Joey, was awesome, very friendly and personable. We started with the clams after being told that they were "fresh off the boat that morning." I mean, you can't say no to that! They were perfectly cooked with lots of white wine, garlic, butter, parmesan cheese, parsley, and a touch of truffle oil. Served with warm grilled bread. It was just a great dish. We split a bowl of the black bean soup, which was good, but lacked a little bit of something. Maybe I just wanted it to be over rice like the classic coastal dish, but it was still pretty good. We also split an order of the lobster mac and cheese. Normally I stay away from lobster mac and cheese because it ends up being really fishy tasting, or they use the chewy tail pieces, but this totally redefined lobster mac and cheese for me. The sharp cheese sauce was wonderful on its own, and they topped the dish with giant pieces of claw meat which basically melted in your mouth. It was awesome. For my main dish, I got the black & bleu ribeye, which was just so good. The giant ribeye was crusted with all kinds of herbs and spices and I don't know what kind of bleu cheese they're using, but it is wonderful. I also really liked the vegetables and potatoes that it came with; I liked that they used zucchini and squash instead of your typical broccoli side dish. Harry got the Seafood Risotto (Sautéed sea scallops, lobster, and shrimp tossed with sautéed red peppers, onions, and Broccolini in a creamy lobster risotto) which he really liked. I only tried the shrimp, but I thought they were well cooked and very flavorful. We were too stuffed to try dessert, but I wish we had! I bet it would've been wonderful. I can't wait to go back! The manager and waitstaff were all really friendly and were happy to talk with us before we left about what things we should see while we're in town. I really appreciated that they went the extra mile for us.

Was in town for business. Asked a local for a recommendation not on Bay or River Street. Found a gem in Toucans. Service was excellent and food was even better. I'm not a vegetarian but ordered a vegetarian entree and was definitely not disappointed. Will be back during my next trip to Savannah!

The food here is just alright. The glowing reviews on Yelp had us thinking we would've found the best place to eat in Savannah. Unfortunately it's above average at best. I don't think this will be a regular place on our visits to Savannah.

Decor was fun and fresh. Food ideas were creative but sometimes odd - Italian eggplant had a great marinara sauce but strangely added feta cheese. The tomato soup was fantastic (must have). A little pricey. Vegetables were crunchy and a little undercooked. Bourbon salmon was very tasty.

Playfull decor. Good food-- roastbeef sandwich for me and shrimp and grits for my wife, along with locally brewed beer or mint iced tea. Anna, our server, was accomidating and quite fun. A great place for shorts on vacation or shirt and tie/ heels and skirts for business.

I was craving seafood after my 2 hour drive for business and I read that this place had pretty good seafood. I ordered the fresh catch of the day which was the halibut with koos koos. I am not 100% sure I spelled that right. As I was waiting they brought of their freshly baked bread and omg it was amazing. Soft, warm, and herby!!! My favorite combinations! !!!!. Even the butter had herbs in it. The combination of the freshly baked bread and the whipped butter was simply delightful. My entree came out and compared to the bread it was ok. The fish was a bit on the dry side. Overall it wasn't bad. The service here is pretty good. They are very attentive. The interior was very warm and comforting. The only thing I can suggest is to clean the menus. The menu I had still had food stains which grossed me out a bit.

Why stop with one bowl of soup? Let's go big and make it two, shall we? We had spent a long day in the car and decided treating ourselves with a veggie-filled feast would be the perfect cap for the day. In true Smith Sister family-style consumption, we ordered the following to share: -tomato dill soup: extremely refreshing - as I shoveled this vibrant soup into my mouth I could imagine the chefs in the kitchen chopping fresh tomatoes and dill to bring the soup to life. I truly don't believe this soup could have tasted any fresher. -Havana black bean soup -Duck - served two ways over a bed of field greens and sauteed veggies: leg & thigh and another "way" that I can't seem to recall at moment. Irregardless, this dish was amazing. The crisp of the duck skin was dead on. This is me giving you two thumbs up to order this dandy. -I fought the urge to nab a bottle of wine like everyone else in the restaurant, but this appears to be a great spot to order by the bottle if that's your cup o' tea Toucan Cafe is a prime example of why Yelp is a brilliant resource when traveling. I never, ever would have uncovered this business had it not been for fellow Yelpers beaming reviews. The restaurant is tucked back a driveway in an unsuspecting part of town. Truly a hidden gem.

I have eaten lunch at Toucans several times and have always been happy with the food. On my last visit I ordered a glass of white wine without checking the price first and was surprised when I received the bill, the glass of wine was 14.50 and more expensive than the salad I ordered for my meal. So I guess I'll stick to sweet tea as 14.50 is not a price I want to pay to have wine with lunch.

We weren't expecting this place to offer such a flavorful menu selection nor were were we expecting it to be so nice inside! If our friends hadn't brought us we probably would have kept passing it by! I ordered the filet with crab meat and shrimp on top. The steak was cooked to perfection and very tender. I loved it! Our appetizer of spinach and artichoke dip was served with pita bread and it was delicious! I have never seen such a diverse menu of food! My husband ordered the ribeye with bleu cheese on top. I couldn't decide if I liked my dish or his more! The ribeye was very large and they still managed to get it cooked correctly. Something very few restaurants can do around here! For dessert I ordered creme brûlée. It was good. My favorite dessert is crewmen brûlée so I am very critical of it. It wasn't served with anything on the side, so that took a few marks away. But it was still tasty and I enjoyed it. Make sure you order the mint iced tea when you go! A refreshing drink!

One of my favorite restaurants in Savannah! I love their warm homemade breads and whipped herb butter. The Moroccan salmon is to die for. Amazing flavor and texture combination and absolutely PERFECTLY cooked. Fois gras was delicious but I wish the portion was slightly bigger. Steamed clams were on point as well in all aspects - perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned, great presentation, and even went the extra mile to put a little char on the bread. I also sampled some of my family's trout and lamb chops and all entrees were exquisite. This is the kind of restaurant where I want to try everything on the menu and would bet that every single thing would be drool worthy. Service is always top notch. Friendly, knowledgable, and attentive yet not hovering and overbearing. I also love that I can get stellar food but still feel comfortable bringing my son (he is a huge fan of the salmon - they have a great kids menu!). I love the relaxed atmosphere but with upscale food. From bread to salad dressings to entrees, clearly these folks know food. Do yourself a favor and eat here as soon as possible!

This is one of my favorite local spots to eat and it's also the only place my daughter will actually eat off the kids menu. Yeah I have a kid that won't eat off the kids menu except for when we come here . This place is small and when it's packed which it always is there isn't a big waiting area. However this place is well with the wait ( this is the only place I'd say that about ) I hate waiting. The staff along with the manager who's always here are super friendly and ultra-attentive to your needs and the wait goes by in a flash. The food is amazing and each meal is served with a basket of warm bread oh it's so good. If been coming here for years and I've never had a bad experience. You never have to look for your server or wait hours for a refill on your beverage, before you drink it's half gone it's getting refilled without you having to ask . I can't express to you what a fantastic place this is so stop by yourself and see for yourself , you won't be disappointed .

Food was soooooo good!! Only thing is their decor needs work its all focused on this bird which is a little weird lol but the food is great and so is the service! Amazing menu options! Will return! They have good parking and a welcoming knowledgable staff. The read and herb butters is a winner!!!

Came here with a couple of friends who lived in Savannah. Very creative menu, and everything was delicious. My personal favorites were the Indian samosa appetizer (not the kind of samosa we get at Indian restaurants, which are also very good, but it was tasty all the same), and the Jamaican jerk tilapia. The decor seems to suggest that it started off as a Caribbean restaurant, but then diversified its menu (perhaps because the Caribbean islands themselves have a lot of diverse cultural and culinary influences).

This was the first time I had been here..very impressed! I had the salmon and my date had the scallops. Both were delicious..But my salmon was extra tasty! Our waitress "Sweet T", was very knowledgeable of the menu and made great suggestions. She was also very friendly. I recommend her! The restaurant itself is small but has a good "date ambiance". I highly recommend Tucan Cafe. I will go back very soon. I'm already craving the salmon again!

This restaurant was such a surprise! The food was delicious, the portions were jay the right size, the flavors delicate and well-matched. Excellent and attentive service, bread basket, half-size desert portions in case you couldn't make up your mind, perfectly cooked salmon... I can go on and on. The decor is a bit understated and worn out/not sleek at all, but it didn't matter. Love this place and will be back next time we make it to Savannah.

Amazing service and food. the waitress overheard me on the phone talking about my efforts to go gluten free and checked everything I asked for if it had gluten without me even having to ask her! Had the tomato dill soup to start, which was amazing (and I'm not a huge fan of dill) and ordered the filet with sweet potato mash as my main course. Can't wait to come back again!

We were in Savannah for the week on vacation and a chef friend from back home suggested we visit Tuocan Cafe while in town. I think this was my favorite meal the whole week. I got the shrimp and grits which was on the list of daily specials. It was a very solid portion and came with the choice of a salad. After craving shrimp and grits all week, this more than satisfied my craving. My wife got a salad with grilled shrimp and asparagus and she absolutely loved it. For a beverage, we had their house iced tea that they infuse with mint and it was delicious. If you're in Savannah for a visit, it is absolutely worth the trip outside of the historic district.

Went here yesterday with two friends from work. Quite promptly my friend questioned the server on the recent sanitation rating. He was very knowledgeable and polite and guaranteed our safety. We were brought warm bread with delicious garlic butter spread that will keep the vampires away for certain tonight. I ordered the Jerk Chicken. It was great; a rice and bean bed with a perfect amount of pollo infused with a super jerky sauce and topped with a caribbean sweet mango salsa. Our drinks were kept to the brim during our lunch and the server was always nearby waiting diligently and daydreaming about his future quest to Africa. This place... is great. I want to explore the menu over my next unauthorized prolonged extended lunch breaks and am excited to have found such a cool place so close to work. I'll be back!

Maybe I'm just grumpy, but the "vegetarian" menu is pathetic. It's about what you could get at any omnivorous restaurant. Aside from the black bean burger, none of them have a real source of protein, and the vegetarian sandwiches (such as the Greek one) don't even have an option to add a vegetarian protein. Since all the 5 star reviews reference their meat dishes, I have to assume they excel at those, which makes me wonder why this is considered a 'vegetarian' place at all.

This is one of my favorite restaurants on the southside of Savannah. Everything is fresh and delicioysly seasoned. The interior ambiance is artsy, colorful and upbeat, and the service is friendly. If you're looking for a restaurant off of the beaten path that will please your palette, try the Toucan Cafe.

If I could give this place zero stars I would. The service was the worst I have experienced in years in the Savannah area. Menus are limited and over the top on effort at trying to be fancy ..... missed the mark terribly. If you are looking for a positive lunch experience pass the toucan cafe by and try your luck at the local mcdonalds, chances are you'll get better service.

Visiting from Nashville - good food and very good service from Katie. We tried the Moroccan salmon and jerk tilapia.

I had the tilapia with crab on top of risotto with asparagus and my boyfriend had a chicken pasta (farfalle) dish. Beforehand, we both sampled the bread and garlic butter and found it to be delicious. My fish was fall apart goodness and there was some kind of sauce on top of it that was a creamy lemony lime concoction. The chicken in his pasta was so tender it didn't really need to be chewed. My food was amazing and so was my BF's. Since our dinner was so remarkable, we opted for dessert-something we hardly do. I had a slice of New York Style cheesecake with raspberry glaze and perfectly paired mandarin oranges on top. Odd combination, but it definitely worked. He had a flour-less chocolate torte with almonds on top. I honestly can't say which was better. Will definitely be returning. Also the mint tea is very refreshing and different.

We came here for our anniversary and were very disappointed. The bourbon salmon was overcooked and way too sweet, and it was layered on a sweet potato mash that was also oversweetened. They seated us by a table with restless, out-of-control kids and the server was checked out. Overrated all around. Two stars since the warm foccaccia bread and herb butter were amazing.

Toucan Café is on my Best of Savannah list, for the food. I always love to eat here. First of all this joint is tucked away, behind a doctor's office, so you feel like you off the beaten path. There is a cute fountain outside, and a chalk board with daily specials. Once you are inside you see a wine cooler. That is great for my lush friends who pick a wine and then a meal to go with it. Then they show you to your table. You get an instant smile on your face courtesy of the whimsical and eclectic décor in the café. I have been here a bunch of times and my eye always catches something new I didn't notice before that day. This is great for a conversation starter as well. They have wonderful daily specials. I try something new every time I eat here. Even the sides are delightful, fresh and full of flavor. The menu is as eclectic as the décor. I have been here at lunch, in a large group, and it was lovely but slow. Toucan is only good if you have time for a long delicious lunch. Dinner time it is amazing. This is one of my favorite places to go on a date. The wait staff is funny, but efficient. I don't think they can find the proper staff around here for this sort of establishment, but it keeps the place casual. Toucan is great for first dates. ***Example? I was asking about the wine selection. The waitress told me they had a new wine from Spain. She continued "It is our South American wine." Everyone at my table made eyes and giggled. I said "I'll have to try that, I haven't had a Spanish wine since they moved." She responded with "Ok, great!" So if you don't know what something is on the menu, don't be shy, ask, they are not judging you here. *** Toucan serves up an inventive menu full of fresh, excellently prepared food. Things like Burgundy beef tips, filet mignon, wasabi tuna, rosemary rub chicken breast, bourbon salmon and much more. Mouthwatering meats surrounded by delightful veggies and sides. They follow it all up with scrumptious deserts and delectable wines served in a casual and whimsical atmosphere. At night it has soft pastel colored lighting that makes for great date night ambiance. Also they have a sister restaurant, Sweet Potatoes. Sweet Potatoes is even more casual and also worth a try! I will see you there... Happy Eating!!

This is one of my go-to restaurants in savannah. The food and service is consistently good. I usually order the black bean burger but have tried a few dishes and have never left disappointed. They do get crowded at lunch and it can get noisy. Decor is a little strange/eclectic but it doesn't bother me - im all about the food and service.

In Savannah for our anniversary and after the glowing Yelp reviews, decided to cancel our reservation at Elizabeth on 37th and go here instead. I even mentioned that when I phoned for reservations (which they grudgingly granted) and mentioned that we would be celebrating a big wedding anniversary, and there would be four of us. Where did I cancel that original reservation again...? Ooops. However well intentioned our visit started out, the full experience was something far from those written about on this page. Once seated, we got menus and nothing else. In fact, it took almost 15 minutes for us to be approached and get water. Bad start. The food was tasty but un-even. Rib steaks came with seasoned butter, that wasn't mentioned in the description of the dish on the menu. Portabello cream soup was the high point. My grouper was an excellent dish, but was prevented from being served to me by our waitress, who rejected it when she saw it and made the chef re-make it. That occurred after the other three parties at the table had been served. They chose to wait until we could all be served and eat together because it was a "celebration" event for us. By the time my re-made food arrived the other plates were cold. No offer to warm them, just silence. Un-even food, and negligent service. Given that I had stated that this was a wedding anniversary dinner, and the snafu's encountered during dinner, I half-way expected a free sample of dessert as compensation. Nothing was offered, and 'Here's your check.' The atmosphere was dingy with chipped paint and a dog-eared look. Food occasionally shines, but it was less than a majority of the time. Next time we visit we'll select a special occasion restaurant for our special occasion, where attentiveness doesn't cost extra.

Very disappointed with the food. The atmosphere of this place is in desperate need of a "face lift." However, the service was great !! We were greated by friendly faces and had a very sweet waitress. However, I won't be back.

good "go to" place near home. We like to bring out of town guests here for some relatively authentic low country fare. Service is attentive and genuine and they aim to please. Food is always interesting, well prepared and tasty. It's not hard to find, tourists should plugin that GPS and try it. Easy parking as well.

My husband and children ages at the time 17 and 12 detoured and stopped in on our way back to Columbus from Jekyll Island. There was something for everyone. We loved it! The food was fantastic. My daughter and I had the salmon, one word delicious. The fish was flaky, moist and flavorful. The couscous was tender with plenty of spice. I especially liked the olives with their briny tang. My son had the. My husband's beef burgundy was outstanding, rich gravy, tender beef. Who could ask for more? The half desserts were just enough to finish the meal off, wonderful, moist cake, ripe berries and frothy slightly sweet wiped cream, yum! Service was excellent, just enough attention from our waiter. The owner spent time chatting with us as we left. I would recommend giving it a try. Oh and the decor was welcoming and funky :) Big plus, super clean bathrooms!

Whenever I am in savannah, I need to stop at toucans. Yes there are fancier restaurants in savannah with great food but toucans offers an ambience and comfortability that I can't get anywhere else. It's a bit off the beaten path but well worth it. I've had the seared tuna, jerk tilapia and bourbon salmon. All of these dishes have been fabulous. My personal favorite though is the seared tuna. The tuna is seared perfectly and almost melts in your mouth. Try it now!

We went to the Toucan Cafe for lunch after venturing out to the less touristy end of Savannah to pick up some hair supplies. We were immediately greeted and seated, and our waitress promptly arrived. Thanks to the suggestion of a Yelper, I ordered the delicious mint tea. The waitress was exceptionally knowledgeable about all the food on the menu and helped us with some suggestions. I ordered some tomato dill soup and the veggie burger. While we waited for our food, we ate the fresh bread and seasoned butter provided to us. Delicious! Wish we had more. My soup came out first, and I all but licked the bowl. Best soup I've ever had. When our food arrived, I was surprised to see that the veggie burger wasn't on a bun, but sat on pita squares. I was actually very pleased by this, because I sort of hate eating with my hands. All our food was wonderful and the service was great. I was hoping when I went to South Carolina a few weeks later that I'd get the chance to drive up to Savannah just so I could eat here again, but I didn't. :( I hope I'll get the chance to visit this restaurant again.

I was pretty underwhelmed by this place (maybe I shouldn't have read the yelp reviews first?) We got the black bean soup, the Jamaican jerk tilapia, and a house salad with tilapia. The black bean soup was pretty good but nothing spectacular, and the jerk tilapia was a bit bland and had way too many black beans. The house salad did have good dressing, and I liked that the waitress gave us to-go cups for our waters.

In a town full of outstanding restaurants, Toucan Cafe stands out as one of the very best. Each course we had was more amazing than the last, from the fresh baked bread with whipped herb butter to soups, salads, entrees, and finally dessert (sweet potato cheesecake with a praline topping). The iced tea, subtly flavored with mint, was superb, and I can't say enough about how sweet and attentive our waitress was. Also, because it's so far removed from Savannah's touristy riverfront, its prices are incredibly reasonable AND there's plenty of on-site parking, which is a huge pro after walking around downtown all day. The only thing that was less than perfect was the restaurant's ambiance - brightly painted, multi-colored walls hung with goofy looking tropically-themed art; non-matching, random plates and silverware; cheap, wobbly tables with hideous zebra print plastic tops - but that all faded into the background with the first bite. If you're in or near Savannah - trust me - EAT HERE!

Arrived at 7:30 on a Saturday evening. We were greeted and seated promptly by polite staff. The server was knowledgable about the menu and was excited to share her recommendations. She definitely had her opinions and they were slanting us towards the Moroccan salmon and seared tuna. Bread was brought to the table. It was warm and moist. The server later brought another basket with our salads as we waited for dinner. And wait we did. It took about 45 minutes for our entrees to come out. Ordered the Moroccan salmon which came highly recommended by the server and my girlfriend ordered the Thai shrimp curry dish. Salmon was ordered medium rare and came out well done. That may have been ok had the rest of the dish not tasted predominately of olives. The thai shrimp curry tasted strongly of banana and was just not very good. Even if the salmon had been cooked properly, it was just not a well constructed plate. There was a about 2 tablespoons of cous cous on the plate and what appeared to be 4 canned mandarin oranges. The spicy honey sauce that the server did such a great job of selling and explaining was nonexistent from a flavor profile. I don't understand why this place gets the reviews that it does. The food was not good. We sent the Thai shrimp dish back and the server suggest the black and blue shrimp salad as a replacement. It came out rather quickly and while the shrimp was cooked properly, the rest of the salad was just thrown together. The walnuts and tomatoes on the salad were in huge chunks and just looked unappetizing. The server and host were nice enough and very apologetic, but that did not bring back our Saturday evening. Frustrated, upset stomach and hungry we left the restaurant. Never to return.

It's surprising this restaurant gets almost 5 stars. The food is marginally above average and reasonably price but is almost as forgettable as going to a chain restaurant.. I ate the much adore Morroccan salmon and thought to myself, I'll forget about this dish tomorrow when I wake up. And sure enough, I did.

We found this restaurant on Yelp while looking for a great lunch after a day at the Eye Institute. WOW, what a find! Service great. FOOD FABULOUS! My husband and I were full and each of us took some home. We had a great chat with the owner who came to the table asking "how was everything?". Highly recommended!!!! Enjoy!

The food here is disgusting and ill-prepared... Came here because people recommended it and because of the ratings on yelp... I got the Shrimp Curry dish... the waitress must have been mistaken when she highly recommended it because it looked like banana pudding... and tasted like banana pudding... why? because it had chunks of mushy banana in it... As disappointed as I was, I politely informed the waitress how much it tasted like sweet banana pudding and she looked puzzled... said it should taste like coconut... I am a foodie, and I have never had a thai shrimp curry dish that had the consistency of pudding and tasted like banana pudding.. I don't know what kind of flawed creativity they're convincing themselves of having, but it did not work. They were kind enough to bring me out a complimentary bowl of tomato soup to prevent me from starving while others were eating around me, and that too, I'm sorry to say was disgusting... I had one bite and I was done... It tasted like warm, watered down, spaghetti sauce.. I finally got my replacement meal, which was the Blackened Shrimp Salad... which the waitress again swiftly and highly recommended, without telling me exactly what it consisted of... (I had asked for a simple salad when she recommended that) My bad? I get the salad... and the jokes on me... there are about 5 pieces of blackened shrimp on it.. which I eat, because I'm STARVING, there's a tub of thick creamy dressing (no idea what it was), and the salad... poorly scattered on the plate, rotten, and drowning under a pile of walnuts, tomato chunks, and dried cranberries?? It was pathetic... those components and flavor profiles should never have been on the same plate.... I was hungry, but felt sick after eating what little food I had. My friend had the Moroccan salmon, which was also highly recommended by the waitress, and that came out DRY. Salmon is a nice piece of fish... show it some respect... I shouldn't have to grab a drink of water after my first bite.. it should be moist and glistening... not white, dense, and dry. There was basically a pinch of couscous hidden somewhere underneath the fish, raw diced spinach sprinkled around it, and what seemed like canned tangerines on the side.... This is my personal opinion about the food... I enjoy GREAT food from all kinds of places ranging from shabby hole-in-the-walls to 5-star restaurants, and from all over the world... I have no idea what kind of palates enjoy this circus food, but to each their own... judge it for yourself... but I don't recommend it.

We were excited to try this cute restaurant but we were very disappointed. The black bean soup was the highlight of the meal. My gyro on the other hand was generic and lackluster. My companions Caesar salad was swimming in salad dressing and her pasta dish was mediocre at best. The marina was very sweet and also poured with a heavy hand. Our server was attentive but overworked. Won't be returning

Delicious specials! Get the morrocan salmon! This was our second time here and we were very pleased. It can be a little pricey, depending on what you get, but the quality of the food is outstanding and we have always left feeling happy and full. I will say however it can be a little loud depending on where in the restaurant you are sitting. Enjoy!

Stopped in Savannah for a night on the way down to FL and had to try this place out based on the reviews. We definitely weren't mislead. The food was amazing (even my picky father tried something new and loved it!) and our waitress Anne was extremely informative when we asked her questions about some menu items. Don't be scared away by its somewhat hidden location - think of it as a hidden gem! [Note: This review is back from 2011]

The last time I was in Savannah, I was looking for a place not too far from my hotel and the Yelp reviews pointed me to Toucan Cafe - thank you everyone who recommend it! The food was better than a lot of restuarants that are way more expensiive. Service was very good. There are a lot of good restaurants in this part of Savannah so do yourself a favor and skip the chains.... start with Toucan Cafe.

This is a must stop if your in Savannah. Everything runs smoothly here. Service is above par, food is above par and atmosphere is above par. Great spot to take your SCAD girl too.

I tried the gyro today for lunch. After I placed my order the waitress asked if I would like onions and feta cheese with the gyro. I was kind of surprised because every gyro I've ever had has always came with these items. I responded that I would like feta and completed my order. After I finished my lunch and received my bill I noticed that I was charged $1.25 extra for the feta. My total bill was $10.70 for the gyro and a glass of tap water. I thought this was kind of expensive for lunch when considering that all the gyro only came with was meat, lettuce and feta. This was perhaps the worst gyro I've ever had. Instead of a gyro, they should call it a lamb wrap with lettuce. This was like ordering spaghetti and then being charged extra for the marinara sauce.

This is a hidden gem so I was tempted not to review it because it was so good and not packed out with midwesterners when we went. But I had to write one because it was so good. Its pretty casual on the inside so you should look nice when you go but not dressed to the nines like I was. Anyway, we went for an early dinner, service was great and the place was not too busy or anything. We shared a mango shrimp appetizer which was soo soo good. I didn't even know I like mangos but evidently I do. And then I had the wasabi-encrusted tuna as an entree. The grilled vegetables were delicious...my baby even ate his veggies!! I love tuna always but this was especially good. Delicious food, good service, and relatively inexpensive, and not packed out..this is one of my fav restaurants not just in Savannah but anywhere.

WOW! Hunt this place down from wherever you are in Savannah & get there! Every dish is thoughtfully put together & was executed perfectly. The salads & bread are perfectly executed as well. The vibe is a bit busy & a little noisy, but not bad. The wine list & beer list compliment the food very well. Service was thoughtful & reserved. If we needed it, it was inquired about & taken care of.

This place is really really really good. To me, the atmosphere leaves something to be desired, but Yelp has never led us astray, so in we went. Our first experience was fantastic...starting with the delicious breads and butter, followed by fantastic entrées. The chef substituted shrimp for scallops for me on the special and it was AWESOME. One of those dining with me was vegetarian, and there were many selections for her. I have been back on several more occasions, and everything has been really awesome. Most recently, the eggplant napoleon special with crawfish and Tasso gravy was OUT OF THIS WORLD (it was a special). FYI only beer and wine. Do not miss the coconut kiwi cake!!!

What a great place, for either lunch or dinner. Quality, fresh food, with excellent prices, and great service. Salmon entree was generous portion, and very satisfying @ $18. Wife had a salad with grilled chicken @ $10.50, and she also enjoyed her dish. Chocolate torte was excellent @ $6.55. After eating rich foods in downtown, touristy Savannah, we needed some real food. Glad we came here, and I certainly would come back, and/or try their other, more "southern" restaurant, Sweet Potatoes. Varied selections of Wines; average $9 for 5 oz. pours, $12/glass or around $33/bottle.

My girlfriend and I came here during our Savannah trip. The tomato bisque soup and bread and salad were wonderful. I had the Jerk Talapia - the fish well seasoned and tender. The food was fresh and very flavorful! Very reasonably priced for what you get!

Great service and mouth watering food! Try the Moroccan salmon and jerk tilapia. The garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus were delicious too. Greek papa salad also worked well. Ask for a server named Lise (like Lease)! You will not be disappointed. Oh, the spot is located in the back of the parking lot. Don't let the signage location (in the front) fool you. Drive on back and get a damn good meal!

It's not downtown on the River Walk but it's the best restaurant I've eaten at in Savannah. Had the beef burgundy and the wife had the salmon. Both were great. The waitress and staff were friendly. Plus, we met Paula Deen who was dining there as well. We will be back.

One of THE BEST in Savannah. I've lived in this town for 9 years and have been eating here since late '06. Consistent service and food quality. I can conservatively say I've eaten here 25 times in groups from 2-8 and I've never seen a single dish get sent back. Bright and cheery place laid back with an eager attentive staff. great wine list great menu. I can't say enough about it. Try the pickles ask for a side of them!

Best salmon I have ever eaten: I grew up on the west coast of British Columbia in Canada and have had salmon prepared many ways. The Moroccan Salmon is absolutely unbelievable. My partner had the duck confit and we shared a curried butternut squash soup. Best meal I have eaten in any restaurant, anywhere, EVER. Lise, our server, is funny, courteous and made our meal! Thank you Toucan. We'll be back!

We chose Toucan Cafe based on reviews. It's a little hard to find because it's not on the street but is instead behind the building on the street. We got there just before the rush of locals. The food was good but not great. It's a place to get away from the Savannah tourists and have a good meal for a good price.

actually l'm giving this 5 stars. very vegetarian friendly, brilliant service that you might expect from a world class Michelin star joint, and an owner or manager who is running food and making sure everything is right. it's not - I'm a little disappointed in this tzatziki sauce... it's a bit sour for me, but in more of a sour cream than yogurt way. he comes back with a small cup and says I'm right and that it's a but lumpy as well. he immediately darts into the kitchen and within two minutes is back with TZATZIKI sauce, the real deal. he says he really loves his kitchen, but they haven't travelled like he or I have, and thanks me for being brutally honest. he offers me free dessert. I tell him you don't get this by eating cake darling. he laughs out loud and brings me another glass of wine and tells me not to break any hearts. the only reason I haven't been back is because the place is too busy. I'm waiting for a slow Monday about 15 minutes before closing, and I won't get eyes rolled at me, I'll get 5 star service. four of a kind, aces.

We were on a 1200 mile road trip from NY to FL and entered Georgia around lunch time. We went a little out of our way to come here and I'm so glad we did. The service was outstanding, and the food was fantastic. My boyfriend had the Greek burger, and I had the Moroccan salmon. We wish we lived closer so we could frequent this restaurant. I would highly recommend!

Pretty good food and excellent service. The vegetarian choices are a little limited, but the pasta dish I had made up for the minimal selection. The bread served beforehand was a nice appetizer, as well. I would definitely say this is a great place for large gatherings. I have been for a Christmas party, and a group outing, and the servers were very well-equipped to handle all of us.

Wow this place was good! When you pull in, don't be put off by the signs that say "don't leave valuables in your car". The neighborhood might be questionable, but the restaurant was solid. They open for dinner at 5, and we were let in and seated at 4:45. The menu has a lot of variety, but not much in the way of beef. If you like seafood, chicken, or vegetarian, you will find plenty to choose from. That said, the specials for the evening we were there included fillet oscar style, which was simply amazing with crab and shrimp. The bread and spiced butter was delicious, and the black bean soup was the best I've ever had. Service was great, and prices were reasonable. Highly recommended.

Toucan is one of those places off the beaten path. You wouldn't know about this place unless someone tells you. Every time we go there we are happy with the food and quality and friendly staff. Atmosphere is vibrant colors (Reminds me of S. Beach) Food: Always hot, fresh and seasoned perfectly Cost: 2 for $50 not including drinks I usually get the Chicken with Feta and spinach which is very tasty and good. They had Chicken Tortilla soup on the menu which you don't see in Savannah that often. It was more like a southwestern chicken tortilla soup. It was very good but creamier than I'm used to. Fresh tortilla strips on top were delicious. My hubby recommends the rosemary chicken. It really looks wonderful. He says it is consistently cooked to perfection. I would recommend it to a friend or visitor if they want to go where the locals go.

Funky, colorful decor - check! Gracious, wel-spoken servers - check! Interesting, high-end menu choices - check! Delicious bread-basket with whipped herb-butter - check! However, I had a couple of issues with the meal... For example, if you're going to serve a Caesar salad, wouldn't you think that the croutons would be at least the size of a small postage stamp and that there might be more three of them? Also, doesn't Caesar Salad usually include a bit of fresh-ground pepper in the mix? Also, when a dish is listed to include asparagus, wouldn't you expect for there to be more than two very tiny sprigs? (and this was not Nouvelle Cuisine, the rest of the steak dish was quite substantial) Another question: since when is creme brûlée served in a tall cup with a relatively narrow opening? (and top barely caramelized) Good points: The steak was very tender and flavorful and their flourless chocolate torte was excellent although it was positively swimming with a raspberry coulis that to me, became a distraction. I have been to Toucan before and it has most often been lovely but sometimes there are some strange blips that pop up here and there. I'm sure that I will try it again but with some reservation.

This is a GREAT restaurant. Thanks to the good reviews on YELP we had dinner here tonight while in Savannah with the PORSCHE PARADE. The rib eye steak is one of the BEST I have ever had...our wait person, Karen was delightful, she helped to make our dinner even more enjoyable...no matter how "full" you are you must have desert.

Went here Tuesday night with a customer who liked the filet only to learn that it was no longer on the menu....booooo. I had also looked at the menu online prior to going and thought some of the apps sounded good.....they were gone too....:-( Anyway....the end result was good....the service was fantastic, and the black and blue ribeye special was good....:-)

My mom and I were visiting Savannah for the holidays. I had done some investigating online before we got down there so we wouldn't waste time looking for places to eat. This was the first place we ate and it kind of ruined any other place we ate afterwords because it was SO GOOD!!! We went for lunch and were given a warm southern greeting. Even though we had to wait 20 mins for a table it was worth it. We got a great table in the back and had excellent service. We both ordered off the Chef's special menu. My mom got the Chicken Almond Stir Fry (which she said was excellent) and I had the Morrocan Salmon with spinach, olives and a mandarin sauce. It was so delicious!! Everything about this place was great! The service, decor, food...everything! If you go to Savannah I highly recommend a visit to Tucan Cafe.

Simply delicious. The salmon, snapper, and jerk chicken were all very well flavored -- enough to be memorable and bring us back sooner, rather than later. I have to agree that the black bean soup was one of the best that I've ever had. Finally the desert -- ice cream pie was so good that we regretted splitting it! We will be back! Excellent prices too. A real value.

Visitors to Savannah, especially yankees and enlightened southerners who believe or actually know there is a whole culinary world that doesn't revolve around the butter and the fryer, trust these reviews and trust your GPS. You will not be disappointed. Great service, great food (especially fish and other seafood) and a decent atmosphere. Yes it is in what I can only believe are the Savannah suburbs and that means you can't enjoy a leisurely stroll in the soft twilight that exists under the ancient trees and Spanish moss of the historic district. But c'mon...most of the restaurants downtown target the tourists and most try overly hard to be southern. And be honest, aren't you a little tired of Paula Deen's lard engined bandwagon? So get in your car or take a cab and see what creative chefs can do with great ingredients. You will thank me and everyone else who posted good reviews. I will absolutely eat there again next time I am in town and consider it a great find that I would recommend to anyone.

Toucan Cafe is my family's go-to place whenever we can't decide on a restaurant. I literally dreamed about this place when I was out of Savannah. The menu is filled with interesting combinations that keep me guessing. Their chefs have an amazing ability to combine the unexpected and create remarkable dishes. If you go here, you must try the mint sweet tea and the house salad with Savannah sweet mustard dressing. Perfect for a dinner party, a first date, or a casual dinner with friends.

This place is rapidly becoming one of my favorites in Savannah. Great menu. Jerk chicken is very good. The asian fresh veggie slaw is amazing. I think this place has my favorite mint tea anywhere. Setting is nice. A little hard to find, but worth it.

My husband and I ate here, along with many other great places in Savannah on a visit in July of 2008. The food was awesome and the service was equally as good. This is really good, fresh food. I had some sort of grilled caribbean chicken that was just to die for.

Wow....just wow! I came to Savannah on business by myself and had one chance this evening to find a good dinner spot reasonably priced. After reading great reviews of Toucan Cafe, I decided to give it a try. It's tucked away and very inconspicuous in midtown Savannah. Come inside, though, and the atmosphere was wonderful. Laid back, yet distinctive and charming. The hostess was delightful, greeted me with a smile, and seated me promptly. My server, Hannah, was positively delightful. I chuckled as she accidentally knocked off not one, but two table candles while eagerly tending to the table next to me. She took it all in stride, then made her way to me with a smile. As I said, laid back, yet charming. I asked for a recommendation from the diverse menu and Hannah suggested the Moroccan Salmon. As it happened, I was leaning that direction and took her advice. Prior to the arrival of my entree, Hannah delivered the most delicious 2 pieces of bread....forgive me, but one was an olive type and another that I can't remember the name of with some delicious buttery spread. I had to request a couple more pieces which she promptly and cheerfully delivered. My salad, though smaller than I would have liked, was as expected with a balsamic vinaigrette over a mix of greens. And the Moroccan Salmon did not disappoint. I cannot recall the experience of multiple contrasting flavors interacting in my mouth as they did tonight with that dish....just incredible. The portion was not overwhelming in size and I probably could have eaten more if it were in front of me, but my extra bread took care of my need to overindulge tonight. I savored every bite and was rewarded completely. If only I could take Toucan Cafe back to northwest Georgia with me tomorrow... All in all, 5 stars and big props to Hannah and the crew for the delightful experience at Toucan Cafe tonight. I'm rather pitiful on the road without my honey and my crew, so the pleasant smiles and cheerful company for an hour this evening were simply perfect. I will be definitely be back if I ever end up in Savannah again, hopefully with my better half in tow to enjoy the cheerful staff, charming ambiance, and fantastic food. Can I give a rating higher than 5 stars? Go and enjoy for yourself!

The bland Jamaican Jerk Tilapia left me disappointed, especially after I had read such positive reviews here. The tilapia was served on a soupy bed of beans, all of which were particulary bland. Saving grace - my friend got the Moroccan Salmon and it was great.

Amazing food. Soft shell crab was perfection and the moroccan salmon's flavor and texture were spot on. House salad dressing was delicious but could have used a few more veggies . Best meal I've had this month.

Excellent first time going here after passing it so many times. Girlfriend had the Filet it was outstanding she also had the house Sangria which I dont usually like and it was good too, I had flounder and it was deliscious. Music and atmosphere was very nice. Finished up with d-liscious creme brulee. Kelsey was our waitress and she was perfect....would strongly recommend. Note to chef, since the ahi is no longer available make wasabi encrusted..something else.

This is exactly the kind of restaurant that we look for while traveling. Good local food, unusual decor, and a innovative and fresh menu. We thought that the prices were very reasonable but the food quality was superb. Staff was good, not fantastic, but it was a busy night and we might have been at a table that was part of training. I would have liked that extra bit, but couldn't complain due to the fact that we are easily entertained with each other. I would love to come back here and would highly recommend it to even my most discerning client or friend.

We drove down to Savannah to pick up my brother and mother from the airport there to drive them up to Hilton Head, so we were only there for the evening. After reading the reviews for Toucan Cafe, I thought it would be a good choice! It was awesome! Don't be fooled by the somewhat weird and sketchy neighborhood, or the signs that say "Don't leave valuables in car." It is worth going inside! It was eclectic and had a nice atmosphere with cute decorations. The variety of food was impressive, and everyone enjoyed their meal. I had a Tilapia meal from the daily menu, and I ate it all. So yummy! My brother got a shrimp and avocado salad, made with local shrimp, and he said the shrimp were delightful. My parents had pork and beef, and they liked theirs as well. The bread was fresh made in house, and thir mint tea was delicious and so fresh. I loved it all. From the people there, you can tell this is a favorite restaurant around Savannah.

Awesome food. Great service. Cheap. I visited Savannah for the first time this weekend, and this place was a highlight of my trip! It's a little off the beaten path, but well worth it! The outside of the restaurant looks a little sketchy, but once you've tried the food, you won't care! Our group of 8 had everything from tilapia to Cajan chicken sandwiches to salad, and we loved it all. The food was super fresh, well-prepared and fast! I highly recommend checking this place out!

I love the Toucan. Don't mistake, this isn't fine dining. It's hip. If you come here and expect fine dining, you're going to be let down. But if you know what it is then it is fantastic. We went here for lunch today and like always, the food was great. It was the first time I went for lunch and I was let down by the atmosphere. It is so much nicer during the evenings when all the lighting effects actually work the way it was designed to. But it didn't affect the food or the service. We were greeted by Becky promptly and she took great care of us through out service. Of course, we had to be the pain in the ass customers that stayed way after closing. I got up and left when I actually noticed though. What a jerk I am. Any who, we were started out with bread and butter which was pretty good. The bread was light and wasn't overwhelmingly filling. I just don't like going to restaurants that gives you a last dinner loaf. I don't like taking things home remember? twitter.com/10_k So I started out with the gazpacho. OMG, to die for. Plate licking good but I hate embarrassing myself. Not that my overworked belly hasn't done so for me already. Hey! I'm working out okay?!?!? So after the gazpacho, she ordered the chicken fralellelel (or however you spelll it) and I ordered the spanakopita (hah! I remembered! and when did I order veggie dishes going out?) The food didn't take long and it took a lot less to eat. The spanakopita-----WOW, it was really good. It came with 2 whole asparagus lol and cous cous. I love cous cous just because of its name. But the dough used for the spanakopita and the spinach itself was very good and at $12, it was well worth it for lunch. It also came with a choice of green salad or a Cesar. She got the chicken thingy. I was trying to avoid meat but like beer, I couldn't say no. The pasta was cooked just right and the sauce was to die for. The white meat chicken was tender and moist which a lot of restaurants are unable to perform such function. But the plate was great. It also came with the choice of salad. Overall, the ambiance was tolerable and the food made up for it. Becky was on her a game and we were the overly late staying jerks that wouldn't allow people to go home. This place is great and a must eat. I remember the last time I was here, we licked our dessert plate. Yum. I'm 5'10 and weigh 175...I can do it OKAY?

This place was fantastic! I had the black and bleu ribeye and my husband had the jerk tilapia. We were both very impressed with the quality of the menu and the food. The price was reasonable too. I can't rave enough about this place and will be going back to try other dishes on the menu!

Worth the detour off I95. I have NEVER written a review for Yelp, but, for the first time, I feel strongly enough to do it. We were driving north on I95 a couple of days ago and wanted something other than fast food. We found Toucan Cafe and BOY, were we happy with the selection. The service was superb - the waitress knew the menu well, including ingredients and method of prep, listened to what we liked and brought us a sample of the black bean soup (great!). We love seafood and have had seafood all over the US, and this was some of the very best. Fresh seafood, really interesting, unique spices and beautifully prepared and presented. And, hearing it was our first visit, the owner/manager came and chatted with us to make sure we were happy. The restaurant is not in the main area of Savannah, so you don't get a taste of historic Savannah here, but, if you want a very interesting lunch in an eclectic setting, try Toucan Cafe.

OMG! And I never say OMG! Glad I checked the Yelp reviews on a recent visit to Savannah and couldn't be happier. Just don't think the (shabby chic) house on the street front is the restaurant-go down the driveway a little further-you'll be glad you did. Had the jerk chicken-fresh, flavorful and had that little unidentifiable extra that made it memorable (sorta like the "great" movie you saw, and can't quite put your finger on what made it so special). Black beans underneath were excellent-so easy to get wrong, but so hard to get right. They nailed it-and I'm a Cuban food aficionado! Can't even remember what she had-was so occupied with my delicious chicken... ( I know, but I'm a good listener) but the sauce she had was amazing! Two quibbles...had to say it....lest they get a swelled head....could have added a little heat to the jerk chicken, and we came specifically for the Wasabi Tuna, only to find that it's off the menu. Minor matters, which become almost irrelevant when you realize what a talented crew they have in the kitchen. (Oh yeah, they forgot to tell us it was a wine special night-although the minted tea was fantastic!)

My husband and I selected Toucan Cafe as our lunch stop on the way to Florida based on Yelp reviews. It was the best food we had on our trip. I also appreciated the waitstaff making us feel right at home despite the fact that we walked in the cafe 10 minutes before they closed for lunch. Superb!

We came to Savannah to celebrate our 43rd wedding anniversary; it being a city we have long wanted to explore. Our yelp search led us to Toucan for our first evening here, and we were both beyond thrilled with the choice. I had the tilapia lump crab dinner, my husband had the macadamia crusted tuna. The fish was superbly prepared, seasoned perfectly, and served well by Hannah. This may well be one of the finest meals we have ever had, and we have dined all over the country and in Europe. My only regret was that I couldn't also order the Moroccan Salmon, since it sounded so interesting. A dining experience to remember and share with friends planning a similar visit to the area.

i visit savannah often, and always try to get to the Toucan Cafe when i'm in town...it's a bright, cheery, colorful, friendly and absolutely delicious place for lunch or dinner...the jerk chicken and jerk tilapia are both delicious; the moroccan salmon is wonderful...lots of great salads and sandwiches at lunch...plenty of vegetarian dishes, too...naturally, the theme is toucans and there are toucans all over the place...the walls are bright, tropical and toucan-ishly colorful, and just sitting there never fails to put a smile on my face...

Although we had a long wait, it was worth it. The food was outstanding the service excellent. And the atmosphere delightful. The seafood dishes are wonderful and if you like chicken marsala, it's great here.We will come back. You can make reservations if you have 5 or more. That should help with the wait. You can also call in 10 minutes ahead to get on the list.

This restaurant is in a very colorful house of a building with a very artsy but cozy feel to it. The clientele are all locals. Toucan Cafe is open separately for lunch and dinner. I went for lunch once and had a very pleasant meal. The ingredient combinations are delicious, and the dishes make inventive use of a variety of fresh vegetables and fruits. It's overall new American fare, but the menu also contains plenty of dishes that incorporate other ethnic cuisines -- Greek, Jamaican, Asian, etc. There are also lots of vegetarian dishes on the menu. When I think of this place, I think of the farmer's market they must frequent every day. They take great pride in their ingredients.

The service was fantastic and the place had great ambiance. They managed to take a fairly bland piece of fish (sheepshead) and make it special. $50 for two but worth it for the skill and service.

I have been to this restaurant many times over the years, and not once have I been disappointed. Consistently good, fresh food. They also offer a variety of specials every day. Service is usually very good as well. I highly recommend the Portabello Florentine. Also, try a cup of the black bean soup for a starter. My favorite restaurant in Savannah by a longshot.

The decor was a bit odd, toucans everywhere! Delicious dinner! I had the baked corvina and my boyfriend has the oscar filet, so great!

Nice atmosphere and unique food blend to make this place a must visit. A little pricey for lunch, if you ask me, but definitely worth a few visits a year.

We were in Savannah for one night - if we lived here, we would be eating at this restaurant a lot. We had a wonderful dinner - both the black bean and tomato soups were delicious, and our main courses (Morrocan Salmon, a Mahi special with cinnamon and nuts, and a jerk chicken salad) were all tasty as can be. The only real complaint that I would have is that the "focaccia" bread was too soft and fluffy to be called that - it tasted great anyway. Service was laid back and even though it was Saturday night and crowded, they did not make us feel rushed at all.

Toucan is basically a fun, quirky, but elegant New Americanish type of place. The fare runs the gamut from steaks, to Greek dishes, to Jerk tilapia. The ingredients are clearly high quality and the dishes well-prepared, though the seasoning can be a bit heavy-handed in my opinion. But I supposed there are worse things in life... Some of my favorite things about Toucan: *The mint sweet tea. I adore mint sweet tea and I still don't understand why more places don't jump on that. *The black bean soup. TONS of flavor. *The house salad. You are offered a caesar or side salad with every entree. Even if you're a huge caesar salad fan, give the house salad a try. It's dressed with their house dressing, which is a honey mustard vinaigrette. SO delicious, and I'm definitely NOT a honey mustard fan. *Hellenic stuffed chicken. Chicken breast stuffed with spinach and feta and served with lemon peas. What's not to love? My only complaint (other than the aforementioned heavy handed seasoning) is that they used to serve these delectable veggie samosas that I was completely in love with. Unfortunately, those got nixed from the menu about 5 years ago, but I still miss them!

They pay attention to detail. Certainly one of my favorite places to eat. The food is consistenly good, wait staff attentive and the food presentation makes you want to eat. Love the eclectic atmosphere.

gone there for lunch and dinner!! lunch being cheaper obviously. i love that you can see into the kitchen. being a vegetarian is hard sometimes to find a good place to eat. it is my favorite, and wished i found it a lot sooner. when my hubbys steak was over cooked, they made a new one without telling us...so it did take a while to get our food, but they gave us free wine and cheese cake. everything is so fresh and i love it. fresh and flavorful and clean

Although dinner at Toucan Cafe was certainly better then it might have been at many other Savannah "fine dining" restaurants, given their strong local reputation and the length of time they've been in business, I really expected more. A full bar is not available, so my partner and I each selected different wines by the glass. Although there were an adequate number of offerings, the wine list was generally populated by supermarket brands, and given the small size of the pour, definitely not at bargain prices. Dinners include spongy focaccia bread with herb butter (margarine?) and a choice of house or Caesar salads. We both opted for the house which was dressed with honey mustard vinaigrette; acceptable but nothing special. Our entrees were selected from the Chef's Specials menu. My partner chose the Imperial Filet ($28), a good sized piece of beef topped with a small portion of lump crab, served with roasted potatoes and asparagus; decent quality beef cooked properly (medium rare) as ordered. It was an acceptable, but uninspired offering. I selected the 8 ounce serving of the macadamia encrusted tuna ($28) a truly fabulous piece of fish beautifully seared and rare, just as ordered. Unfortunately, it was presented over a mound of overly sweetened sweet potatoes with both a mandarin orange coulis and a jalapeno buerre blanc (curiously without any heat, but with lots of vanilla). The fish was sided with heavily seasoned grilled vegetables; altogether way too many strong and opposing tastes that totally over-powered the wonderful tuna. Overall, it seems like the dilemma at Toucan is choosing between the safety of a "run of the mill" preparation like the filet, or taking a chance and risk suffering with the chef's failed creative attempts, as was the case with the Tuna. To be fair, this was our first time there in a couple of years. As such, Toucan does deserve a return visit, although the next time I'll exercise special care in my menu choices.

YUM!! What a fantastic weekday lunch spot. I wish we would have found this lovely spot sooner. Don't be fooled by the little building street side. The actual building is back off the street a bit. Casual is fine but there was everything from us to business dress and such. The menu seems to change often. The sweet tea is a moderately sweet tea with mint and it's FANTASTIC!! Highly recommend. We both had the gyro. Yummy. The olive spread was a bit much though. Overpowered the lamb. Hand cut fries could be a bit crispier but they're not bad. Menu is varied and has something for everyone. Prices aren't bad at all. We will definitely be back.
