Stopped in here to avoid a brie rain shower. We were pleasantly surpised by the "clubby" atmosphere, although I have no idea what the Matilyn statue means either to the restaurant or to Savannah. Had sandwiches and iced tea. Both were okay, but nothing special. The service was friendly, although rushed, as the cafe filled up because of the rain.\\It was a step above IHOP and Denny's but, given the plethora of good restaurants in Savannah, not exceptional. I suspect that an outdoor table with a pitcher of sangria and the music on the plaza might have been nice, but we'll have to wait for our next trip to try that.

Good drink and dessert. Terrible service. Waited 25++ min for bill and check. Even after asking 3x. Terrible.

We visited twice during our stay in Savannah. What follows is: THE GOOD THE BAD & THE UGLY. THE GOOD: Tried one Baked Brie Cheese Platter with fruit for lunch and it was fine - no issues. While not the best glass of Chardonnay - certainly the largest and at $6 a pretty good deal. Service - Very pleasant on both visits. THE BAD: Inside A/C is weak (1st visit) to non-existent (2nd visit). Asked for inside table to break from humidity - inside was actually worse so outside we went. THE UGLY: Don't drink the water. On 2nd visit - water tasted like it was sitting in a sink for a while...

The best part about this place was the drinks. Our first night at city market we passed by this place that has a big TO GO Drinks sign outside. We don't see that often so we decided to try the Georgia peach sangria...it was really good and we came back for a second round after strolling around the city market. The 2nd night we were walking around again and all of the sudden it started raining really hard. Since this place was the closest to us we decided to run inside this place to eat dinner. I have to say the food was just ok. I had the crab cakes..see the picture. As you can see they give you a hearty plate, it's served homestyle. I liked the crab cakes and the collard greens. The black eyed peas and rice was not so good. My husband got the blackened fish sandwich which he said was OK The side he got with it was cold sesame noodles which were really good. For drinks I ordered the lemon ginger Shandy which was very refreshing and I also ordered another drink but I forgot what they called it...but I know it was a mix of riesling, mango and strawberry puree and club soda, I really liked that too. Service was great, the waitress gave us her suggestions at the beginning which I always appreciate. She checked on us throughout our meal without being disturbing. I'd say we had a decent meal. Probably wouldn't go back for food but most likely back for those peach sangrias!

Overall, okay experience. Would have given two stars due to food and unbelievably dirty water cups; however, we had one great meal with a fantastic drink and wonderful server. The spinach dip was watered down and had a weird flavor. The stuffed mushrooms were supposed to be stuffed with crab and we barely found any crab, just what seemed to be old spinach dip. In addition, the butter grits with Parmesan cheese tastes like instant grits. The overall cleanliness of the restaurant was lacking. On the positive note, the blackened grouper sandwich was fantastic! The homemade potato salad on the side was a great twist that tasted homemade and wonderful. I would absolutely recommend these items. We both had the peach sangria and thoroughly enjoyed that drink, as well! Our server was polite attentive and enjoyable to deal with.

Updated review* I finally got to dine here with a friend a few weekends ago. I wasn't overly hungry so I ordered the spinach pizza and a peach sangria of course. Sangria was amazing, I loved it. The pizza...was okay. The middle of the pizza was so mushy because of the insane amount of cheese piled on. I won't order it again. My friends shrimp ravioli was very very good. We also enjoyed the tiramisu, which was different that usual, more of a cheesecake but delicious. The best part of our experience here was our waitress. I can't remember her name but she had long blonde hair with blue streaks. She was extremely attentive, knowledgeable and had a great personality.

Two stars for crappy service. First, the hostess sat us at the worst table, wedged in next to a party of 6. The next 2 diners got a better table. When we asked to move, the hostess was highly perturbed. Service was slow, and it took us quite some time to chase down napkins and silverware. We ate, paid the bill, and were going to leave when a downpour started. We decided to sit outside and have root beer floats until the rain stopped. As luck would have it, we got the same waitress. We were served our floats, minus spoons, straws, and napkins. Again, we had to chase her down for these items. If you've ever had a float, you know these items are necessary. The food was okay, but service was poor.

Terrible experience. Service was poor, and food was cold. I wouldn't recommend it to to anyone.

This was the first place I stopped after arriving in Savannah. I was seated pretty quickly because there was no one else there. The table was set and sticky. The room dark. I should have taken this as a sign and read reviews before I say down and ordered my drink, shrimp, grits and collard greens. The food was brought out quickly and I ate every bit. Yet, there was not enough food for the price paid. The shrimp were small and seemed to be previously frozen.

This was our last meal in Savannah, and am so glad we picked this place. The goal was to go to the City Market, and we ran into this gem. I had the blackened grouper, that was well cooked, seasoned perfectly and served with the right amount of rice and beans. The service was prompt, friendly and helpful. My friend had the shrimp and grits, which he seemed to enjoy. They had some yummy dessert offerings too, but I did not have any space left to try it. I would highly recommend checking this place out.

My girlfriend and I popped in here for a quick snack around 4:30 on a Monday afternoon for a quick something to hold us over til our late reservation. We split a peach sangria (I wasn't very impressed) and a prime rib grilled cheese (which did impress me). The shredded prime rib was delicious and well cooked however I think the sandwich could have benefitted from a little more cheese. The food was served hot and the sever was very nice - I was pleasantly surprised by the experience as my expectations had been lowered by reviewing the other ratings and reviews.

Stopped in to try a peach sangria. We were seated on the patio, after waiting 15 minutes with no acknowledgement, we left.

The location is the best thing about this place. I agree with existing reviews that the food is average and the service doesn't seem too welcoming. There wasn't anything special about this place that would make us come back. Kitchen is slow and the staff doesn't appear to work as a team - all over the place. Only stopped here because all the surrounding restaurants were full.

Live music in the square so we grabbed a outside table to enjoy the atmosphere and get some food in our bellies. We decided on the Mediterranean pizza, one of the moderately priced items on the rather pricy menu. I can't speak for anything else but that pizza was amazing! The crust was a bit crisper than I prefer but all of the toppings and other flavors as well as the overall look blew me away. The service was a bit slow but our waitress was super friendly. The loss of stars came in with my main complaint, the bathrooms. Disgusting. The toilet was not even secure, rocking all over, the toilet paper holder was empty and broken with a roll sitting on top and the rest was just a general mess. I could understand if it was an event weekend and the place was packed but it wasn't, it was mid afternoon and half the resturant was empty. No excuse.

We were in Savannah overnight and came here around 10am Ina Sunday. Not too many people seated but holy cow the wait for our meal was long. The service was very good and attentive. I got the spinach, feta egg bagel and it was really good. They said they were out of the hash so I got the grits. Meh, on the grits. Hubby had the chicken and waffles and he said they were very good. Also the coffee and iced tea were VERY, VERY GOOD.

It's ok. It was cold so we stopped for a bowl of soup. The French onion was ok nothing special. I would go for 2.5 if I could the best thing is the location.

  • Andrew C.

The food left much to be desired and the service was not the best. I had one of the pizzas, and it was terrible. A DiGiornio would have been 100 times better. The peach sangria was very good, though. My recommendation would be to get a cup of peach sangria at the to-go counter and go somewhere else to eat.

We were walking down the bar area looking for some grub yelping and saw this place. Thinking of New Orleans we decided to stop in. When asked for drinks we were going to grab a brew, but the restaraunt was unable to sell alcohol due to the owner passing away :(. We ordered the crab filled mushrooms as an app and when they came the crab oddly looked and tasted like spinach?!?! I had the chicken cordon blue and I would say it was average. So overall the place really didn't stack up to expectations. They really could have used some music, maybe some blues or a piano. A drink or two would have helped, but that wasn't their fault. I would give them another try down the road.

The girl seating us was a loser. No personality. No smile. Definitely in the wrong job. Waitress (Sarah) did a nice job and was very nice. Food was way overpriced and quality was mediocre at best. Don't waste your money.

"The uptown downtown cafe" - Service is good, but menu is a bit pricey for whats actually on it. A bit weird that they serve sangrias in mason jars to some tables and not others. I think we were the only table that were served in plastic cups for some reason, which gives it a cheap feel - so "uptown" ?- don't think so. DON'T GET THE POTATO SALAD- IT'S SUPER SOUR- tastes like just sour cream and lemon juice. Other than that food is just ok.

We had breakfast here because there was a long line outside Goose Feathers. The fact that only a few people were eating here should have given us pause. I had the jerk chicken and waffle. The piece of chicken did not taste like it was seasoned with jerk, and it was dry. The waffle was tough and difficult to cut, much less eat. My mom had the spinach quiche and said it was delicious. My husband had the mountain man breakfast with brisket (which he enjoyed), grits that were very tasty, and a "biscuit with gravy" that had some kind of dry crumble on it that cannot be considered gravy. Although there were very few people eating breakfast here, service was very slow. There seemed to be only one person in the kitchen and one server.

This place is hard to review. Not a good experiance. Place was dirty inside. There is a big mirror on the back wall that was filthy. Our table was next to a brick wall and the mortar was all over the table and the ledge. The peach sangria was good, but the muffaletta sandwich was dry and had hardly any olive salad on it. Service was ok, there were lots of waiters, yet all the tables were full of dirty dishes. Very strange..We would not come back.

Sat on the patio and enjoyed the late evening breeze and live music on the square. Service was speedy and polite. Peach sangaria was refreshing. Mason jar glass was a cute touch. My portabello and gorgonzola pizza had an excellent flavor and texture. Overall, delicious meal. Prices were a little high, but nothing unexpected or unreasonable for a tourist area.

I really enjoyed this place. I go to city market all the time and I always pass this place and never eat there. I was in City Market about a week ago and I didn't feel like getting in the car and finding another place to go and worry about parking so we decided to eat down there. We were either going to go to the wing spot down there or this place. I'm so glad that I gave this place a chance. Just about everything that we ordered was perfect. The atmosphere of the place is kind of like an old Hollywood scene with white linen on the tables and pictures of golden era Hollywood stars. We sat right next to a huge cutout of Marilyn Monroe. I ordered the chicken alfredo with shrimp, one friend ordered the chicken cordon bleu and my other friend ordered a pasta with sausage and shrimp in it. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered. My friend even ordered desert which is something we never do we go out. They both got the peach cobbler and loved it so much that they wanted seconds. The price was pretty reasonable and the service was great. Our waiter was very nice and very open about his favorite options on the menu. My only complaint is that the hoppin' john or black eye peas & rice was not as good as we thought it would be. It had an strong tone of vinegar which did not appeal to us. Other than that it was a great dining experience and I definitely recommend!

Had lunch here twice. Both times had the salmon appetizer. Five large pieces of salmon, bread, cream cheese with dill, grapes, orange pieces, strawberries. Photo above. Makes an excellent lunch for $13.

First off, the hostess seemed to be bothered that we were even showing up, at 930pm on a Saturday night. The waitress was kind and bubbly. We ate outside and ordered the blackened grouper. The water was stale and tasted a little soapy. Oh, and it came in a huge plastic cup. When it arrived, 30 minutes later, it was black but cold. The flesh was grey and had the taste of having been cooked about 4 hours before and I imagine kept warm in a pan or under heat lamps. I was a professional cook before, by the way. My dish was supposed to come with bacon- it was absolutely burnt. My wife ordered a salad with salmon and ham. The fish was also cool, but edible. The ham was like my fish- looked and tasted like it had sat out for hours. I returned my food and had pizza down the street. This is one of the worst restaurants I have ever eaten at.

The only reason this has 3 stars is because you can sit outside and enjoy live music- otherwise the food is uneventful. We didn't have the acclaimed peach sangria but after reading these reviews, I'm not too upset. Granted our waiter was really nice but he was so slow to bring our food, take orders, refill waters, etc. the one good place we wanted toest lunch at in town was Papillote and it was just too crowded for lunch. We knew we were getting into a tourist trap at Cafe at City Market were hungry so whatever. You should be able to sit down no problem just by walking in. I had the crab cake sandwich that came with a pickle and field peas and rice. Everything was frozen- there wasn't any hint of Parmesan on my crab cake as listed on the menu and this was no southern crab. The portion was also very small. My bf got a burger, which he said was fair. It's hard to mess that up-he got it on Texas toast, which was a bit weird. He got a side of fries, standard. At least stuff wasn't pricey- $10 a dish at most. Looking back, skip it and eat at Papillote if you're in savannah for a day-if you don't mind the wait.

Well, at least they have a market on the to-go drinks. Music draws you down the cobblestone streets and the restaurants lure you in with good smells of food. The sign boards outside make the Georgia peach sangria enticing. It was ok, certainly better then a Wet Willie's and its a perfect spot to pick up a cold drink and people watch in Ellis Square. Everyone sitting around talking, little kids doing cartwheels, old people playing cornhole, young ones running through the spurting fountain. Get a drink or a bite to eat, and pay for the ambiance.

  • Kelly M.

Not for me. Service was great. Peach Sangria was good. Not too strong or weak, nice and peachy. The peach seemed as if it had been soaked in alcohol. Yum. Italian Muffaletta. Very salty, expected from the olive mixture, however the bread itself seemed super salty. Potato salad has sour cream in it (a minus for me personally, but I'm sure most would like). Huge portions. Expected half the amount I got. Great value, if enjoyable to you. My boyfriend did not enjoy his Chicken and Potato soup of the day or the Crab Stuffed Mushrooms. I didn't taste, no comment. Nice atmosphere, though not sure what all the Marilyn Monroe and a few other leading ladies have to do with Savannah, etc. I missed the connection.

We went there on a Saturday afternoon based on a recommendation from a friend. I wish we would have read yelp before going. After waiting for 45-50 minutes for a table, our table was given to somebody else. They did fix that by having the people get up. It took about 10-15 minutes for our waitress to greet us and take our drink order. After placing our lunch order it took at least an hour for our food to come. Once the food came my blacked grouper BLT sandwich was burnt and cold, it was missing remoulade sauce and the bread was soggy. Another one of us ordered the Italian sandwich, it was also cold. Had the waitress every came back to check on us, maybe this would have been taken care of. Long story short, Savannah has so many places to eat at, don't waste your time or money here.

We ate here after taking the Oglethorpe Tour and got off of it starving. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either- it was just okay. I had the shrimp, grits, and collard greens and everything was cooked alright it just didn't blow my mind. The grits were a bit underseasoned as were the collard greens. Our server did a good job though and took care of us.

Chose this place on a whim while walking around city Market. Debated and debated but chose the cafe despite the low yelp ratings. It was a quaint little restaurant. Overall it wasn't anything spectacular, but it wasn't bad either especially given reviews! Service was fine, and food was good although the cheese pizza was expensive and overcooked. The gyros were much better. Not a bad choice for a stop in city market.

  • Morgan H.

We stopped to get peach Sangrias to stroll the market. Literally everyone had one. Didn't eat at the restaurant so I can't recommend anything. If the peach sangria was any indication...I'd pass.

I ordered the blackened grouper blt sandwich, when it came out the fish was actually TILAPIA!! What a scam! They sold dirt crap product as grouper! Unbelievable.

  • Joey V.

Like many other reviewers, wished we had checked yelp! 2 stars only on the service of the staff. Got the low country boil. For the price, you don't get much. Maybe 10 med shrimp that were tough. Corn was cold in the middle like it was straight out of the freezer. I would maybe come back for the Peach Sangria.

a very pleasant surprise! amidst the touristy atmosphere of downtown Savannah, I lucked upon this modest eatery. I ordered the shrimp scampi pasta which touted fresh Georgia shrimp (a must) with garlic, basil, and lemon. All were prepared expertly. The service was fast and friendly. Prices very reasonable.. A big thumbs up!!!

I would give this establishment negative stars if that was an option. My family and I were visiting Savannah on June 28, 2014 to tie up loose ends for our upcoming wedding. After a long day of vendor visits, we were enjoying some live music at City Market that evening. We were sitting on a bench in City Market that evening when a storm rolled in without warning. The sky just opened up and the rain was POURING!!! So, my family, along with several other people went under the outside seating area at Café at City Market to seek cover. As soon as we stepped foot on the patio at Café, the staff yelled at us to get off their patio. We were told we could not stand there because the restaurant was closing and we needed to get off of their patio now. The waitress was overly aggressive and yelled at my family along with people with small children to get off the patio or they would call the cops. All the people on the patio were just trying to avoid the storm and not causing any harm. People even offered to help stack chairs and tables to help the restaurant close up. Every other establishment at City Market had people standing under their coverings and inside their establishment with absolutely no screaming or mention of cops being called. I have never been treated so poorly by restaurant staff in my life. I will be getting married in Savannah in a few months and I will without a doubt warn every last one of my wedding guests to stay away from this place. I visit Savannah several times a year, as does my entire family, and after this visit, I can assure you not a dime of my money will be spent here. I was beyond disgusted by the way the staff treated my family, but more so, by the staff trying to kick people with small children off their patio in the pouring rain. There is no excuse for treating people that way, it was beyond appalling.

I'm sorta torn as to how to review this place. Stopped in here twice while in Savannah. First time was Friday during the day and had a GREAT experience. Ended up enjoying a brie appetizer dish and several sangria mixtures. Service was very quick and frequent to the table. Second visit ended up a disaster really. We were looking for a place to anchor after the St. Paddy's parade and waited in line (while there were several visible tables open) for at least an hour. I asked why the wait and was told that the host was told not to seat anyone to let the kitchen catch up. I responded with "we won't order food, just let us sit down, we just want to sit and drink". That didn't work either :(. An hour later, we are told the kitchen is now out of food. Long story, short, we could have sat down an hour ago. UGH. I'll give them a break, I can't imagine the stress of having that many patrons that quickly but to simply run out of food is kind of sad.

  • Dan K.

So-so food, slow service. Probably a notch below chain restaurant style food, to be honest. The real problem for this place is that in Savannah you can throw a rock and hit 10 places with vastly superior food. It's a pedestrian menu, burger, pizza, a few pasta dishes and sandwiches. There isn't anything special about the selection or the preparation. If this restaurant was in your local mall and you ate there during a Christmas shopping spree it would be adequate. But in the heart of Savannah with so many delicious options you owe it to yourself to skip this place and keep on walking. You'll bump into a far superior experience in minutes. Unless you really enjoy listening to cooks yell "Order up!" In which case you can have that unique experience here. I should add Paula Deens place is quite literally a short walk away.

  • Kristina T.

I honestly can say this is one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. Just popped in here on a whim while visiting Savannah. Really wished I had checked the Yelp reviews first. We were seated on the patio. It was nice to watch the world go by while we ate our lunch. A friend and I both ordered two different kinds of pizzas and a side salad. I'm not sure if the waitress was new or high. We had to explain EVERYTHING to her. I mean who doesn't understand what a side of ranch is??? At one table she brought drinks but forgot straws; at another table she left a credit card receipt but no pen. I let that table barrow my pen. We asked for our salads to come out before the pizza and 45 minutes later we had to ask for them again. A table that was seated 15 minutes after we were got there got their food first. We had to ask for our sides of ranch again too. When the pizza's came out to the table they were under cooked and cold. 45 minutes for a 9 inch, thin crust, under cooked, cold pizza!?!?! What were you doing back there?!?! Never mind, I probably don't want to know. I will say the one redeeming grace to this experience is the waitress took the pizzas off our bill since we didn't eat them. I would suggest you stay away from this place until it gets some new management.

We were walking around City Market and the "Peach Sangria" sign drew us in. Luckily I didn't check Yelp - or the so-so reviews for this place... or we would've probably skipped out on their delicious peach sangria. We only came in for some pre-dinner drinks and snacks... so I can't really vouch for any of the food outside of the salmon appetizer and gumbo soup. If you're in the area - get a table outside, order the peach sangria - and enjoy the atmosphere.

  • Franco M.

The outside seating area was enough to entice me into the joint. I had the Creole style shrimp with grits and greens. The shrimp and greens were delicious and very filling. The grits could of used a little more flavor but the greens and shrimp made up for bland grits. The service is nothing special and can be expected since this is a tourist trap.

I can't say enough about the Peach Sangria. Just get one. Trust Me. The food was good, the drinks were better, and the service was excellent. If possible recommend BRIAN. He's easy on the eyes and super friendly!!! This is a super busy place so if you're impatient don't waste your time, but if you can chill for a minute and relax, it's definitely worth the wait. It's a fantastic little place.

Not as bad as others have written! We had lunch today at the Cafe At City Market and it was OK. We split an Artichoke & Spinach dip and a Chicken & Pecan Salad. Both were pretty good if a little pricey. We did try the 'special' Peach Sangria and previous reviewers were right, don't bother! Our server, Cory, was prompt and friendly. In a pinch, not bad!

While taking a trolley tour, we decided to get off at the City Market stop. It was lunch time, so we chose the Cafe for lunch. Our food was very good and the service was good as well. I had the chicken salad plate with fruit and it was delicious.

Visiting Savannah and came across Cafe at City Market our first night. I do not recommend. Server was friendly but food is definitely not worth the bother. We ordered the crab cakes, salmon pizza, and chicken salad.

Worst place I have had lunch. Yucko! Our waiter did a great job (kind, attentive). HOWEVER, the food was disgusting. Upon looking at the menu, I thought going w the turkey and swiss was safe-- oh, but it wasn't. The meat was slimy, and possible had just been pulled out of a week old Hillshire farms package.. I had to smear dijon mustard on the entire thing to gag it down. My boyfriend had the chicken pot pie (which tasted like chicken bouillon mixed with pea soup). NEVER AGAIN. *Iced hazelnut coffee was good.

I enjoyed a glass of sangria with my sister on the patio, while listening to the live music this past weekend. The service was nice. I'll be back to order food and continue my review.

I got the blackened grouper and it was delish! the drinks were madd weak well maybe not madd lol but def nothing to tip your bartender heavy about. The drinks I ordered were a cucumber drink and a peach sangria. The cooks are good and portions are fair and so is the service overall A-ok!

City Market is full of bars, restaurant and shops. What caught our eyes was the Peach Sangria. My friend, her husband and I decided to sit outside. It was comfortable, not to hot. The staff was friendly. The food was good. I have to say that the tap water they gave us was horrible. I would go back.

  • Dor B.

We chose the Cafe at City Market because our trolly tour had dropped us off near by and it seemed reasonably priced with an interesting menu. We sat outside and ordered the peach sangria to cool us from the hot day. The server was professional and although we were the only table outside he did not make us feel forgotten and was on top of our service. We ordered lunch special items Cajun shrimp and grits with collard greens and a walnut chicken salad sandwich with cold noodles. I very much enjoyed my shrimp and grits lunch, the shrimp was flavorful and medium spicy, the grits rich and creamy and the collard greens although very greasy was very tasty and prepared with ham hocks, needless to say I cleaned my plate and left full! The walnut chicken salad sandwich was good but not special. It could have had more flavor, on the other hand the side of cold noodles was a tad bit salty but still tasty and interesting. We enjoyed the peach sangria (pretty sweet) and people watching, it was a nice lunch. I would recommend this restaurant to those looking for good food and service at a descent price.

  • Sal A.

Service is slow at best. Good sound dampening inside. Beer was all bottles after I was under the impression it was tap. Expensive, mostly because of the tourist factor. Wife had the cheese burger- took one bite and decided to eat our sons kids meal instead. Not a good thing. Will not come again. On a positive note the peach sangria is very good.

We came to the semi cool restaurant in City Market with classic movie decor on a saturday night. They were short handed but our waitress, Micky was very nice. I was very disappointed by the Geoegia Peach Sangria. It was supposed to contain peach purée but contained only a single peach slice. Every other sangria I have had had multiple slices of fruit in it. So it was really disappointing. My entree, chicken Marsala served over cheese ravioli was not very well imagined. My chicken was dry and overlooked and the raviolis had no flavor to be found. (frozen - too perfect to be made on premises. The Marsala sauce and the onions on my dish were excellent, however.

  • Rachel S.

"Meh" describes the experience and some of the food. We went here in early September, which is still summertime temperatures in Savannah, so the watermelon sangria was particularly refreshing. It was lunchtime so there was a 30 minute wait. The decor is cool. My party of 4 sat down, and the waiter told us that they're low on silverware, so he gave two of us a knife and a fork, and the other two just forks. The knifeless two never got their knives. :-( The baked brie was delicious, so I'd recommend ordering that. But skip the Parmesan Crab Cake Sandwich; it's not very flavorful or impressive The best part of that particular dish was the black eyed peas and rice.

Decided to pop-in for a quick lunch. Service is fine, but the food was nothing to rave over. Crab stuffed mushrooms for appetizer were covered in thousand island dressing (seriously?? we're on the coast people) and the shrimp-and-grits were just as lousy.

Killer location, but not my favorite place. It was pretty perfect to sit out front in the shade and listen to the live music and watch the world walk by, but everything else was pretty lacking. Granted, we weren't in a hurry, but our server took forever coming by to refill our drinks and we would've ordered several more rounds had she been a little more attentive. The food was lackluster and unmemorable. I would say stop by and enjoy a drink, but that's about all.

Blackened chicken club was unbelievable. Truly Amazing. Service was fantastic. We throughly enjoyed our experience here.

Please don't waste your time, money or appetite here. We went on a Sunday, the husband was starving so we went to the first open restaurant we came across (FYI half of Savannah is closed @ lunch time on Sundays) We were seated right away and our server was sweet. The food was gross and the menu is rather limited. I felt bad for everyone who came in after us. Don't do it!

I was a little skeptical to eat here reading previous reviews. We were seated quickly and ordered straight away. We were a bit disappointed by the peach sangria but it is refreshing and easy to drink. We ordered the blackened grouper and baked Brie. It was absolutely delicious and perfect for two. Just a warning if you eat outside beware of the birds. They are fearless!

Years ago when I worked downtown I ate here frequently and always enjoyed it. Not so anymore. I generally try it every couple of years to see if I should begin making a regular stop....but definitely not. I tried to eat a late lunch there a recent Sunday at 2 p.m. The hostess took me to a table, noted it was dirty when seating me, and said she would be back to clean it. Didn't happen. A while later the server came over, noted and said the same.....and still I sat there are a dirty table, with no menu, no drink, no nothing. Finally left. On previous visits the staff was bordering on rude and the food mediocre. There are too many good options downtown to keep wasting my time here.

Seriously, who doesn't de 'vein their shrimp? 2 stars because the service was good. In retrospect, we should have heeded the warnings.

Not a good atmosphere. Food was mediocre and slow service. Good part of town with a large patio.

This is why I will be getting an iPhone and the Yelp app for it. I stumbled onto this place thinking it was cute and that the menu sounded appetizing. My first warning should have been how empty the covered deck was at lunchtime. My second should have been how the waitress, instead of telling us of specials and soup of the day, started by listing all the things that they were out of. Really? On a Saturday? Your busiest day? The restaurant isn't worthy of a lengthy review so I'll be brief: Less than mediocre food. Priced too high for the quality Black bean soup was tasty Everything else was bland to inedible Plus no kids menu so had to pay full price for a burger that the kid could barely eat half of (plus she didn't like it.) Service was slow, only had my lemonade refilled once, and it seemed on the watery side Plus, their outside seating was hotter than sitting in the sun. The reason: "Because this awning traps heat for some reason. Skip it.

Terrible food. Overpriced, and it made 3 out of the four of us really sick. My sandwich was greasy, soggy, and burnt all at the same time. Tourists are the only thing keeping this place in business.

Wanting to go to a local place in Savannah, we headed to the cute city market area near the fountains. Cafe at City Market turned out to be a great lunch spot! There was several sandwich options and specials to choose from. I had the Portobello and Gorgonzola sandwich and loved it! If for some reason you're not into cheesy-spinach-deliciousness, others in our group reportedly enjoyed their salads and pizzas too. This place also has a fun atmosphere with a 50s theme decor, great outside seating on a warm day, and the service was friendly and fast. Overall, everyone in our group thought it was a fun place with good food!

I came here with my mom and sister for the well-advertised sangrias and a light lunch. We sat on the front porch and had a great view of the market. We tried three sangrias.. My personal favorite being the cucumber cooler. Although it took a while for the food to be delivered, the drinks and ambience made it okay. We shared the Thai chicken appetizer, and an order of French onion soup, house salad, and string beans. Food is pretty good for the price. House salad is overpriced for the proportion you're served but I appreciated their other healthy options.. We would come here again.

I wouldn't recommend it. The sandwiches, pizzas, and burgers were okay, but most of our meals came out cold. Flavors were not exciting, everything tasted pretty bland even if it was described as "Cajun".

I've had lunch and dinner here. The location is very nice, but you pay for it. They have outside seating in the shade, which is nice. Lunch was fine, but not very memorable. Dinner was fair... We both had a steak, and the thing was big. The cut however had a lot of fat on it, which basically meant that we only got to eat half the steak. The rest of the food wasn't mind blowing or anything. I had some peach sangria, and it was okay too. Not very strong, and the peach flavor could have been more explicit. The service was good, we had a lovely waitress. We're not likely to come back here.

After being seated with 2 small kids and ordering, we waited about 25 minutes without any feedback at all from our server (Shreya). When we asked about the status of our food, she wasn't apologetic nor did she exude any sense of urgency. She did check on it and told us a few minutes later that ours was next. A minute or two later she delivered a tray of food to the larger table next to ours (whose party had clearly been seated/order taken several minutes after ours). When I asked to speak to a manager, I started to share my complaint (still having received no food) and she interrupted me almost immediately telling me that she would take care of it. I told her that I'd like to finish telling her why I'd called for a manager (Christine C.), and she seemed completely flustered at the fact that I was complaining at all and asked if I wanted my food sent back???? When I asked why in the world I'd want my food sent back if I'm complaining about having no food, she said that I was yelling at her and she just wanted to calm me down. I was completely floored. I was certainly upset and my tone reflected it, but I was absolutely not yelling. Clearly, she was so uncomfortable with any complaint, that she just refused to deal with it. She told me that she'd comp my meal, and I think that she felt that since she'd decided that at the outset there was no need for me to complain. I guess from her perspective if I was getting a free meal, that should shut me up - why wasn't I kissing her feet at that point? Clearly, our server was horribly incompetent as a server and the manager had zero customer service skills. The manager later came back to apologize for not letting me talk. By that point I'd already asked for the name and contact information for the owner. My sense is that that's what spawned the apology.

Starving on a Sunday afternoon and from out of town, I found myself in front of Cafe at City Market. I wanted to try a "local" restaurant but if I would have known how bad this place was I would have gone to Wild Wings across the street. We were seated promptly, but that was the only good thing about this dining experience. Our waiter was annoying and appeared to be half asleep at 11:45am. We were informed we couldn't order drinks until 12:30pm on Sunday because of a local ordnance. (My suggestion for Cafe at City Market would be NOT to advertise your "famous" sangria on your hand written Welcome Sign or have the drink menu on the table until people can order drinks. Very misleading!) I ordered the Southern Chicken Salad Sandwich mainly because it said it had pecans in it. The sandwich came with a sesame seed pasta salad. The pasta salad was surprisingly good. It was made with spaghetti noodles and the sesame seeds weren't overpowering. The Southern Chicken Salad Sandwich was awful. It had way too much mayonnaise and not enough pecans. It lacked flavor and was messy. Not my best dining experience during my trip to Savannah.

It's Jan 1, pretty much everything in walking distance is closed or mediocre (we already went to Vinnie's). Wife had bland chicken gumbo soup, grilled chicken sandwich, I got the gyro sandwich. Both were about $2 to $3 more than they should be. Side portions were either potato chips, or pasta salad. We got the latter, and it was a portion that was only about 4 forksfull. The gyro/chicken actually were not bad, but both were over priced. Unfortunately, in this area, there actually aren't better options (other than Vinnies). Oh well. Glad we didn't blow 18 to 25 bucks on the entrees...

I had a tequila-lime (?) chicken salad that was the perfect lunch entree on a hot day. Low-key joint, nice ambience, conveniently located in the middle of City Market.

Well - we ate here because my daughter heard that this place served Gumbo. Hmmm... We ate inside. The music they played was fun - it was old music (think Andy Griffith - whistling, etc) - we had fun singing along (no one even looked at us like we were too weird, but there weren't a large amount of people here). There were large cutout pictures of Elvis, Marilyn Monro, etc. Our waiter was a large, kind of moody guy (my thought, he was out of jail - not fair to him, but he really didn't have the usual waiter attitude). Here's a food review: Gumbo - tasted like it was RIGHT out of a Cambells soup can. It really tasted like Campbell vegetable soup with some frozen occra added to it + LOTS of salt Blah. Pasta Salad - all dishes came with either potato chips or pasta salad. It was really, really mayonaisy tasting. If that was the one option I was serving at my restaurant I would make sure it was the best pasta salad you could find. Not this. Blah. Blackened chicken - my daughter enjoyed this Salad with Salmon - my sister ordered this and really, really enjoyed the salmon. She actually talked about it several times over our vacation week. Pretty funny. Muffalatta - I've heard of this but never heard of it before. It tasted like I would think it should taste. It was pretty good.

This place is just sort of ok. There is a huge ceramic statue of marilyn monroe and a lamp that is made out of a mannequin's body. My salad was good but small and expensive, and my friend's cheesecake was also good but also obviously just unfrozen. I think that the city market location is the most desirable aspect of this cafe.

At first we weren't very happy - both the dishes my husband and I ordered came with prosciutto, which they were out of. However, once our food arrived, it was so delicious, we left very happy! The muffalletto (sp?) sandwich and shrimp antipasto salad were SO good, it left us craving more! However, the other items on the menu were not too exciting. Service was only okay. The outdoor seating is nice, especially when there's a musician performing in the Market area.

AVOID AVOID AVOID at all costs. If my friend hadn't been starving and I hadn't been trying to find her food quick, our better judgment would have prevented us from walking into this nondescript place that was largely empty when everything around it was alive. Hard to believe that food can get this bad. Half the menu (read: everything that sounded remotely good) was no longer available, which we were made aware of one at a time, preventing us from making a graceful exit. The chicken gumbo tasted worse than out of a can, but the black bean was so salty that I felt my blood pressure elevating then and there. Our waitress was sweet though!

Seems to me by reading other reviews from after my trip to Savannah, the 2nd week of June, Savannah was getting ready for no visitors plain and simple. I heard this spoken many times by employees of different facilities. Anyway, when we went to the cafe June 10th, outside seating was 1/2 full and the inside was totally packed at lunch. I did order the muffuletta, which was nothing more than ham and cheese with olive spread. The roll wasn't even toasted. I think that they need to rethink or Google the true meaning of this exciting New Orleans sandwich. I chose chips with the sandwich since it was so hot outside and one can get very sick of fries after a vacation. 3 stars because of the fans set up outside to cool the smoking crowd & anyone who decided to join us outside, though they need to turn off the lights against the outer wall, or change the bulbs to the new kind. The heat off the bulb above my head about gave me a sunburn! The beer was very nice and cold with quite a few to choose from. I do wish now that I had ordered an Italian dish or pizza. When I went inside to use the bathroom the aroma was magnificent! The air conditioner was also on ultra-high making it very nice for customers on such a hot day. I will go back and try something which I could smell upon enter. That was just complete heaven on earth!

We found this restaurant to have a varied menu and our food was good. There were 4 of us and we had turkey sandwiches, soup of the day, and a salad. You could eat outside or in, both areas were clean and inviting. The staff was friendly and our food came fast. Prices were average for the area we were in. We would go here again.

Dismal atmosphere, foul restrooms, average food at very high prices, tiny portions. This place should be condemned. Tourist trap -- steer clear.

GA PEACH SANGRIA *faints* Aaaaand you can walk around town with drank in hand!! The outdoor sign immediately caught our attention. Couldn't. Resist. Eating the peach slice at the end was heaven!! *please note: this review is only based soley on the alcoholic beverage NOT food or dining experience.*

My friends and I were walking down the quaint City Market area and saw the Peach Sangria offered by this place. We ordered a few cups to go. I have to say that it did not taste good. Nobody in my group even finished the drink...we all ended up tossing it. This was on a Saturday night and I should have known something was up....right across the square, Wild Wings had a two hour wait and this place had immediate seating.

I wish I had read the reviews before choosing this place. Whoever said "you can't get a bad meal in Savannah" was wrong. Very unimpressed with the steaks. Our server was very confused. The prices are OK, but I expected better food quality.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
