This place is fantastic! Family owned, great food and friendly service. We live in the development with walking distance, so if we don't feel Ike making dinner we always take a still over here. The eggplant, lasagna and meatballs are all awesome! Sometimes they have crab cakes as a special for and app, delicious as well. If you're craving genuine Italian food this is the place for you. Check it out! Also recommend sitting at the bar. They are great guys, great company! Sal is the best!!!

Nice "little Italy" restaurant if you are looking for that. We had their house special calamari, which we thought was ok. We were not a big fan of the fried calamari drenched in their sauce. I loved their caesar salad I had the veal picatta and it was good not great. My wife had the chicken parm and she said it was ok, nothing special. Kids had the fettuccine Alfredo, i snuck a bite and i thought it was below average.

Not good...just got home from a planned dinner for my husband's birthday, just the two of us at Amalfi, a place we've enjoyed many times. Wait was not bad but once we were seated we noticed it took a long time for a server to come over for our drink order or even to come by at all. Finally he did and apologized. We ordered martinis and calamari to start. The calamari was awful, thick pieces, chewy and tough. We ordered grouper and eggplant parmigiana for our entrees. My husband liked his grouper but the eggplant dish which I've ordered and loved many times there was like something from Olive Garden, totally smothered with a heavy, gloppy red sauce, just very mediocre. We finished and my husband commented that our server never introduced himself and that things seemed slow even though their crowded spell had passed. Just then, our server came up, introduced himself, and apologized for the service and the confusion in the dining room due to "emotional drama" this evening. He comped our drinks, a nice gesture. We understood, told him these things happen and tipped him well. Overall, though, it wasn't the evening we hoped for, food or experience...next time we'll choose another restaurant for our evenings out.

Have tried to come to this place a couple of times after hearing from friends. It truly never attracted me, with the dusty hardware shop exterior of the street mall where its located. Finally made it, and was excited seeing the place packed and loud conversations (its Italian, capicci?). I liked the old decor, kind of gives the place a flair of tradition and old time food care- whatever that means. But food...how should I put it? It has no soul. On the first trial I asked for the day special. A bland colourless veal. Then on the second time I came in I asked for the 'top seller'- an ok bolognese lasagna, with nothing special about it. Heck, if someone told me it was a frozen stouffer's it wouldnt surprise me. But what really bug me was the dragging feet service. When you have to wave your hand to be able to make an order, you know there is something wrong. Bottomline, not coming back. There are plenty of great Italian restaurants out there worth a visit- with better food, service and price.

We have had friends talk about this place for years so we were looking forward to finally eating there. The appetizer of the calamari was really good. I had the salmon which tasted really fishy. Almost to the point of sending it back. Others had the shellfish and pasta which was OK. The server acted like he was doing us a favor by waiting on us. Just not the experience we were hoping for.

great local Italian.... service is prompt and courteous. have been coming here for years and enjoying their great salads, house special calamari and several dishes including classics like lasagne, ravioli, all the veal dishes and a side of the wonderful meatballs... excellent atmosphere and fun to mix with the regulars!!!!!

It is hard to find a good Italian restaurant in the Atlanta area. This place a is gem located just outside the hustle of downtown Roswell. It is very authentic and the prices are reasonable. Portions are big, I suggest the meatballs.

Best Italian restaurant in Atlanta area! I am an Italian from NY and this is the only Italian restaurant I will go to. Annas meatballs are as good as mine and I have never said that before . If bracoile, is on the menue get it and believe me the pastry is baked there by Annas brother and is worth the calories, the cannolli just like at home amazing! It's family run with Anna's & Sal's sons both serving and making recommendations . Ok I wish they would take reservations but they don't but they do have a full bar, it's always worth the wait.

I arrived with my family on Saturday evening, 1/9/14 and arrived at the opening time at 5:30. We were the 4th table seated. The experience started out fine but the service was slow. We had to have an empty glass and even then had to ask for every refill we ordered. We had the calamari for an appetizer and it was average. I ordered the veal scallopini and my daughter had the veal parmesan. My wife had the lasagna. We agree it was good and within the average category. The pasta sides my daughter and I both had were room temperature (the pasta and the sauce) which was disappointing. We then ordered tiramisu to share. The server came back and said that he was sorry but they were out. Again, very disappointing since that is a signature dessert of any Italian restaurant. I could understand if they had been very busy and had run out later I the night. However, that was not at all the case as we arrived at the opening time as were the 4th table seated. I should also mention that we left with the couple who were the first table seated. So, we were out by around 6:30 pm. So, I was overall disappointed with the quality of food, service and lack of availability of a staple dessert considering the high marks by most. Perhaps it was an off night for them. I would be willing to try again down the road. Side note...we had a situation with our bank debiting our account twice. However, I don't know that at the time when I contacted the manger on the following Monday night. He immediately got very defensive and hostile with me. It ultimately was cleared up with the bank and the owner called me personally to apologize and resolve which I did appreciate. However, I did find that the reviews that mentioned some of the managers could be rude to be consistent with what I experienced as well. I do appreciate the owner taking the initiative to resolve.

Madonamia, I love this place. Been coming here for 15 years since I moved here from NYC when it was named Salvatore's. It's still the same great family owned restaurant, the most consistent recipes and by far, the best place for real Italian food in Atlanta, hands down. From the Pasta Fagiole, to the spaghetti alio, to the potatoe croquettes this place rocks.

Just flat out RUDE service. Not bad service but rude service. We had a group of 10 and 5 minutes past our 6:30 reservation they were asking if the rest (2 more people) were coming "because we have a lot of people waiting". Ummm there were plenty tables open no need to be an A-hole. My wife ordered a really nice glass of wine and she asked for a 2nd, she received it immediately. However it was the wrong kind of wine and the server said well leave it as I'm sure someone will drink it. The server said I thought I grabbed the moscato but I guess not, glaring at my wife, and said if anyone wants the FREE wine go ahead. We weren't in for the free wine, just the correct wine. So that's bad enough for me not to return, but then they couldn't split the bill. "We don't have a computer". Really?! It's 2014 and you don't have a computer?!!!!! So my part was $78 before tip (not a problem). However when I receive my credit card receipt, it was $100 before tip. Server did not come back around for me to contest so he got $5 more than I would've tipped as I still would've tipped 20% (undeserved). As we were walking out, the owner ran into is (literally) and said "HEY". RUDE! We will never go back and I hope all endorsements are pulled! Good, not great food and makes it worse buy the entire staff being RUDE! Don't go here, there are much better Italian restaurants in the Atlanta area. CHECK OUT MY OTHER REVIEWS, THEY ARE ALL GLOWING REVIEWS, SO YOU KNOW THIS IS LEGIT! save your money and nice evening on the town.

This place is amazing! You know it is good Italian food when an Italian grandma is literally in the kitchen making the food. It is family run and you feel it in the friendly service. We come here a lot and some of my favorites are the calamari, the eggplant Parmesan, and the espresso martini. They even let you substitute spinach for pasta if you're trying to keep the meal light. Love it here!

When u walk through the door and the heavy velvet drapes, you would swear you are walking into a place in the little italy. But you are in a strip center in roswell. This is a hidden gem. Family run with mom in the kitchen. Great food. The only thing I don't like is the Caesar salad. The dressing is a little heavy for me. But everything else is great.

  • Jane B.

As a waitress my self its really hard to find service that's up to par! This place delivered. From the moment we walked in the door. Quite quaint, but wonderful. They bring fresh bread and a really pretty plate of oil for dipping. Had a wonderful glass of sangiovese with dinner. Chicken parm and ceaser salad. I asked if they could split it for us which they did perfectly. For dessert the chocolate chip creme brulé was worth the whole trip. Can't wait to go back and try some other things!

Wow. Wow. I really can't say "wow" enough. A new employee of mine, who moved here from Houston, had his wife in town to go house hunting. I've known this guy for nearly 10 years, but never met his family. When trying to recruit him to come work for me, he mentioned that he'd have to convince her to make the jump to Atlanta with their two young children. "Let me talk to her." I said. "You will never talk to my wife." he replied with conviction. Anyway, she was in town, and I wanted to take them out. My initial intent was to head down to Roux or Ceviche on Canton Street, but she was in the mood for pasta, so I quickly looked on Yelp and found Amalfi. Never having gone there, I was a little skeptical when I pulled up and found that it was buried in a strip mall. I went in and was taken aback by the clientele who all looked like extras from the movie "Cocoon". Seriously, my date and my friend and wife combined were half the age of everyone in the room with the exception of the bartender who was verbally abusing each and every one of them. It was one of the funniest things I've seen in a while, and he was totally justified. These people were annoying as shit, and even though restaurants are a customer-centric industry, these folks needed to be put in their place. The waiters wore bow ties and the floor was carpeted (paging Robert Irvine). Carpet, bow ties, aging clients, and strip mall all led me to believe that I was in for an apology to my guests at the end of the night. Wrong. This may have been the best Italian food that I've ever had in my life. My friend mentioned to me that it looked like a place you would see a mob boss hanging out at and that he would like a seat with his back against the wall. I make my own gnocchi, and whenever I see it on a menu, I always get it to see if mine is better. Dammit. Theirs kicked my ass, as did their meatball. Everyone was thoroughly pleased with their meals, and it was one of the best times I've had since moving to the area. The big question was whether or not, my friend's wife would be willing to move here, and my guess is that if I take her to Amalfi once a month, she'll overlook the new displacement. If you ever have a chance, give this place a shot. I am really looking forward to taking my Italian mother there to show her that she's not the only one in the world who can make pasta.

This place is the Closest to up north that I have had down here. I am from New York and my wife is from New Jersey. The bartender Salvatore was EXCELLENT and his Long Island Teas were perfect. Angelo was incredibly nice as well. This place is literally a mile from our home. We ordered to go food. The Calamari and Mozzarella in Carrozza . Amazing. Best service I have had in a long time. Bravo.

The food was average but the cost was excessive. The time it took to get served was longer than norm even tough they were not busy

  • Courtney S.

Dinner was fantastic. The hostesses told us 30-45 min for the wait and they were within time which was great for Friday night at a busy, popular reataurant. The calamari was perfect, we loved the entrees, and oh man - those olives! Yum! We will be back!

Authentic, fresh, and delicious Italian food! My husband and I have been coming here for over 15 years (we were dating at the time we started dining at Amalfi's - previously known as Sal's). Don't let the location fool you! Although it's in a shopping center, it's still great food! Everything is delicious. Try the meatball. It's one large meatball that can easily be shared! Specials - order them, they are special for a reason! So many things to highlight - the mozzarella in carrozza, homemade lasagna, veal amalfi, and chicken parmesan. It's a family own and run business! The service is friendly and attentive. Give this place a try and order a few different dishes to share. You won't be disappointed!

  • Katie F.

I came here based solely on the positive reviews I read on Yelp - the best decision I've ever made. It's small and intimate and the wait staff was very attentive and knowledgable of the menu. The appetizer and entrees were amazing, but the dessert was what blew my mind. I don't remember the name, but it was the raspberry/passion fruit/mango gelato in a white chocolate shell. Oh my god. I've never had anything better. The English language doesn't have words to communicate how amazing it was. I will be back, and soon.

Very good Italian neighborhood restaurant. Started with steamed clams - excellent; bruchetta - ok ; and mozzarella in carozza ( a grilled mozzarella cheese "sandwich" ) - exc taste but very filling. Veal amalfi, chicken Marsala, chicken parm ( my son of course) and a meatball side. All very good . The entrees came with pasta. Large portions on the entrees. Four of us ordered three entrees plus the apps. And took home enough for one lunch. Waiter (alex?) Was great , helpful attentive. Found out about this from coworker visiting town who called it "awesome". We must have driven 100's of times and hadn't noticed it. Worth the search

Such an instant fan of this place! I'm not sure what took us so long to try it. The veal amalfi was delicious, as was the dirty martini we had. Not to mention, our server was fun and super helpful. Great atmosphere that you'll want to visit over and over again!

  • Catherine M.

If you're looking for true authentic Italian food, this place is it! You won't find many of the traditional Napolitan dishes found on the menu anywhere else, i.e. Calamari Luciana and Panzarotti. I saw some reviews comparing this place to Maggiano's and Olive Garden. There is no comparison. That's like saying Taco Bell is Mexican food. The portions are large so you can definitely save some for lunch the next day if you have the discipline to not devour your plate. The only con is the parking. It can be difficult to find a space especially on the weekends. If you plan on visiting Amalfi on the weekend, I would suggest to bring your patience (the wait can be lengthy, but well worth it) and appetite!

We loved the family-run atmosphere and way of the place. Bartender is pretty cool and very helpful with drink choices. Service is great and friendly, and you usually get to see the chef and owner and the rest of the family come out and interact with the guests, which gives it a personal touch. Food was pretty good, and prices although not CHEAP, are pretty fair for what you get. Roswell people should step out of the overused Canton restaurants and try laces like these more often! Awesome, and will def be back!

Horrible, horrible staff!!! Arrived at 5:45 no one was in the restaurant but a few people and the told us 45 minutes for a party of 8 wait now we have been waiting for an hour and 15 still do not have a table. The hostess is a horrible person rude and disrespectful . Do not come here if you are more than 4 people. Trouble is the food is very good but rude staff does not make up difference.

What a super, under my nose the whole time, find! Have driven by this spot so many times before trying. It is a wonderful neighborhood Italian family run restaurant. Reasonable price, excellent food, attentive service and cozy atmosphere. Lesson learned, don't overlook the obvious and especially this one!

Great food, AWFUL hostess service. My husband and I have been going to Amalfi's for several years and have always had a great experience....although, as of late, the wait for dinner has been getting a bit out of hand. Tonight we showed up at 6pm on the dot and there was already a 45 minute wait. My husband signed us in with the hostess stating we were a "party of 3 and a high chair" for my 12 month old. She advised there would be a 45 minute wait so we proceeded to stand outside holding our baby. The hostess would occasionally come outside to call other parties and give us status updates. She even came out to tell us we were next for a 4 top table. Well after waiting for closer to an hour she calls us in, walks us to our table with 4 chairs and I remind we need a high chair. She then looks at me with a blank stare and tells us that they don't have high chairs. She apologizes 3 or 4 times about it, but that doesn't really help the situation. Between this experience and the growing wait times (people that got there shortly after us were told they had a 1 1/2 hour wait), I don't think we'll be heading back anytime soon.

    (1)
  • Andrew A.

The food is good. The service if good. The portions are large. But for the price, it isn't worth it. For six entrees (four of which were pasta), two salads and one glass of pinot gris, $170+ is extreme. It would certainly rate higher if the price/value ratio was more inline. I have never minded paying for an outstanding meal, but for the money I'd rather be eating at BuccaLupo. Won't be going back anytime soon.

So... everyone always RAVES about this restaurant, so I decided to give it a whirl. First of all for a Wednesday evening - parking lot was FULL, no parking available, had to "create" a space. Would hate to see it on a Friday or Saturday night. Walked in and was not really sure where to go, no real hostess stand. Was seen by a server while we were standing there so he seated us. Service was prompt and server was pleasant. Nice touch bringing olives and bread with oils and cheese to the table. I ordered the Lasagna with a side meatball and my daughter had the homemade pasta filled with spinach and ricotta cheese in a light cream sauce. Food was good, there was no complaint there, it just didn't BLOW me away. It was OK, typical Italian. Decor could be updated, probably the same since it opened. Reminded me of a 1970's place. Over all, if you are looking for REALLY GOOD Italian, I would recommend Sophia's Italian Restaurant over Amalfi's HANDS DOWN!

Services as usual it's always aweful here. It is like they are doing you a favor to serve you. Food is very good but not worth the ordeal to put up with crappy service with the bad attitude of staff. Some day this family run business will wake up and realize they should have treated their customers better. If you like crappy service, want to wait an hour to eT and have really good food this is the place.

Amalfi is back on our A list. After one extremely troubling episode with some nasty bartender (since deceased) we reluctantly decided to give it another try after a 10 year boycott. God what idiots we were for that move. This place has very good food and we can walk to it from our home. Amalfi is the real deal and that is saying something if you have read my other reviews. Enjoy.

  • Scott S.

This is a nice local place, but the attitude is a bit aloof which is funny because this isn't exactly fine dining. It's between Maggianos and an Olive Garden. The waitstaff interrupted our meal multiple times trying to take our dishes away while we were still eating. Pretty annoying. They came back 5 minutes later and tried again I agree with another reviewer that they have high end dining prices for a middle of the road dining experience. For the same price you would get more for your buck at Maggianos with better service and about the same portions. OR Buca Di Beppo with same prices and double or triple the portions with about the same quality of food. Nothing stood out about the food. The veal and other dishes were good but not memorable. Food-3 stars Service-3.5 stars Atmosphere - 3 stars Value - 2.5 Stars

My parents had recommended this place; however, being born and bred in New York I had my doubts. I am happy to say that those doubts were replaced by delicious food that I have been dreaming about all morning. My boyfriend took me there as he was in trouble and trying to make it up with a good dinner. Men if you are reading this and want to get back on your woman's good side, this is the perfect place to go...it might even get you laid afterwards! We started off with the house wine (nothing special) and got two appetizers, the bruschetta and salad caprese. Hands down best bruschetta I have had in Atlanta. The tomatoes were excellent. We noticed that eating it got a little messy but it was worth it. The mozzarella in the salad caprese was first-rate. Soft and very flavorful and the tomatoes were once again a great choice. There was not a trace of any appetizers after two minutes! For my main course I got the veal scallopine stuffed with prosciutto and mushrooms. Absolutely fantastic! I demolished the entire thing and could have eaten seconds. The veal was melt in your mouth. The pasta on the side was just okay, but I was so enthralled with my main course that it didn't matter. For dessert we took home a canoli which had an orange zest flavor. I didn't like it that much but my boyfriend thought it was great. Overall, this place is a must go. As Arnold would say "I WILL BE BACK"

    (5)
  • Stephanie S.

The mushroom and ricotta stuffed ravioli was good! Staff was pleasant and attentive. Good wine. The bruschetta was good but a bit too salty. Crab cakes were good and the cooked spinach it was laid on was too salty too. Surprisingly busy on a Wednesday night. It is bigger inside than it looks on the outside. I almost missed the turn because it's in a curve and the the parking lot is small. Overall, nice experience.

Just love this place. I live nearby, been coming here for years. This IS my goto place for Italian in the Atlanta/Roswell area. Great food, family operated, casual, and always a joy. (That was corny, I know)

Food is really good. Service gets better than more times you go there. I recall getting weak service until we became a regular. It shouldnt be that way, but not surprising with a neighborhood Italian joint. The food will get you back, so dont be put off by lack of service. Hang in there and they will take good care of you.

This place has a nice vibe, and before our food was served a very polite woman emerged from the kitchen and spoke the most beautiful Italian. That is when I knew this was going to be the best Italian food I have had since my Italian grandmother kitchen. Every thing was perfect and the wine list was amazing.

i have been trying for many occasions to get over to this place to check it out, based on a recommendation from a friend. not the best, not the worst. overall, i give this place a 3.4. i would go back, but only during non-peak hours. //atmosphere the restaurant can only be described as "quaint" which is a euphemism for small. our dining spot was one of two tables, located right by the front window which bisects the front of the restaurant from the bar. a bit awkward but not too bad. probably not a favorite seating location, especially when cold. parking was DREADFUL. i had to let my wife out so i could squeeze between two boneheads who have no concept of coloring inside the lines. it was THE last spot in the lot. still, despite the cramped quarters, it was relaxing and laid back. i was probably one of the youngest patrons of the restaurant if that gives you a sense of median age. in other words, they were handing out a lot of senior citizen DISCOUNTS that evening. ;) tip: i overheard quite a few patrons talking about how this was their friday night spot. that's good. it means a real locals hangout. it also means you better get there early unless you're planning on walking because the parking lot sucks. //food better than the olive garden. (what isn't?) better than ippolitos ... but definitely not better than some others. maybe it was the recommendations the waiter made? we took on the appetizer special which was sliced zucchini and eggplant. overall, good. a bit greasy. nothing special about the bread for the table, but i do have to say the little olive oil, grated cheese condiment to dip in is awesome. the lasagna was decent. another dish we tried, a rigatoni dish in cream sauce with italian sausage, was better in my opinion. pretty good, really. i would go back for that. //service the service was exceptional WHEN it was there. the hostess -- extremely pleasant. the waiter -- very pleasant, engaging, and knowledgeable. i mentioned earlier getting one of the front tables. it appears that since those tables are tucked out of the way, they tend to forget you're there. still, they are a friendly bunch.

This is the best Italian I've ever eaten and I will be returning regularly. Just to name a few of the remarkable things we ate there. The calamari Luciana - Best calamari I've ever tasted! Meatballs - again, the best I've ever had. The gnocchi was outstanding! The bruschetta - best I've ever had in my life. They make an espresso martini that is out of this world. This place is as good as Italian food gets and the service was excellent as well. I couldn't have wished for a better experience!

This is the best Italian restaurant I've found in Atlanta. My girlfriend and I go here once every few months and every time not only does the waitstaff remember us, they remember our preferred drink order. They always greet us with free bruschetta as well. I always order a Vitello dish there, which never disappoint, her favorite food of all time is Gnocchi which she says they have the best of. The best dish by far is the Cannelloni which they only have as a special, but it's the best I've ever had. The ricotta cheesecake is amazing as well, and so are their coffees. I highly recommend this place.

Impressed. Gnocchi very good; light, good sauce. Farfalle w clams and mushrooms a little heavy on the pepper but I like that. House chianti excellent. Atmosphere was comfortable, service excellent. My only complaint was the bread, mediocre at best. Authentic Italian cuisine. Menu heavy on veal and seafood. Will return, certainly.

I'm from Chicago where there is an Italian restaurant on every corner and this is still the best Italian food I have had in the states. My family and I celebrate every special occasion here. I order the veal scaloppini, calamari, and cappuccino/chocolate martini as dessert every time. Food: five stars Service: six stars Ambiance: 2 stars- i think it's time to redecorate or expand I'm interested in partnership ;)

Stumbled upon this hidden gem. Walked in and was greeted by the most beautiful girl. She was extremely friendly and her beauty exceeded Aphrodite's herself. She was my sun, my moon, my starlit sky. Without her I dwell in darkness. Her power enchanted me and I stood helpless against it. Oh yea the food was good too.

I was born and raised with some of the best Italian food that this country has to offer. Sadly, moving to Atlanta, I lost access to the good stuff. I've been in Atlanta for 8 years, and overall, the Italian food overall resembles ketchup on spaghetti. I've been here twice and the food was above average both times. My first visit was with some girlfriends. The calamari was excellent, as was a special fried goat cheese appetizer. My main dish was a take on a fruite di mare that was excellent, right down to the littlenecks and mussels. The biggest drawback was that they aren't very fresh (and I could tell). But overall, it was exactly what I was looking for to take away my jones for some fresh zuppa di pesce from the North End in Boston. On my second visit, I had the gnocchi, which I had heard was excellent. It was quite good, but not quite as good as I had hoped. There was something off about the gnocchi themselves, though I can't quite put my finger on it. My mista salad was good, though, and the balsamic homemade dressing was excellent. Overall, the atmosphere of this place is fantastic. It DOES remind me of a little hole-in-the-wall place that I went to growing up. The olives on the table are a great touch, too.

We really enjoyed the atmosphere at Amalfi's and they've done a great job of making the most of the space they have. A wall separates the bar from the dining areas to minimize the sounds and distractions from that area. The seats are comfortable and the tables are spaced far enough apart so that you aren't crowded. It was truly comfy and perfect for a date night with the wife. The only interior design flaw that gave me grief were the tiny restrooms that require contortionist skills for egress. Ambiance can only take you so far and a genuine Italian accent from the waiter raised our expectations a little too high. While there were dishes to enjoy there were also some disappointments. Our meal began with bread, a small plate of olives, and a plate of EVOO crowned with parmigiano reggiano. The olives were a spicy mix that included slivers of onions and were fine (my preferences are for spunky Kamalatas, but they're hardly Italian). The wonderful bread was nearly as soft as spongecake and the EVOO was of obvious high quality and excellent taste. Our appetizers were the Anna's Famous Calamari Luciana and an evening special of potato gnocchi, while my wife had the Mista di Giardino salad. The waiter was very gracious and offered to deliver a half-order of the calamari since we were also having the gnocchi and there were only two of us. (Obviously my legendary consumption skills haven't reached the shores of Italy, but I accepted the offer for the sake of decorum.) The squid was crispy in a light red sauce of such subtly that I would probably save the $3 and instead get the Calamari Fritti that comes with marinara. The gnocchi was also perfectly cooked and in what appeared to be the exact same sauce as the calamari. But since they were both incredibly bland it was hard to tell if they were the same. Amazingly it took only a dash of salt to greatly enhanced the enjoyment of the gnocchi. Perhaps it was the chef's style, but nearly every dish seemed to be lacking in both seasoning or salt. The ingredients were obviously fresh and of quality, but sadly everything was pretty bland. Or entrees suffered this same condition, and I really found myself pining for a good punch of garlic. My wife's Agnolotti Freschi alla Crema was generous as was my Vitello Amalfi, but not even the cheeses had much character. The veal in my dish was a bit tough, the crab was unidentifiable, and the spinach had been overcooked so that it was bitter and more like that found in a can. Unfortunately washing that bitterness away was impossible as we could not get drink refills. The service was ironically superb except for this one aspect, and they never seemed to be available when were languishing without refreshment. It wasn't just bad timing, but extended periods of absence to the point that the problem really deteriorated our experience. And when we asked them to box up the leftovers, they only came back with just one box from one of the plates. As the other dishes had been mediocre at best, we let the mistake slide. The evening ended on a high note however, since we made the rare decision to also have desert. My wife doesn't care for the bitter edge of tiramisu, but it suits my darker side. It was an enormous piece that was light and full of flavor and a heavy dusting of cocoa. The garnish of fresh cream with a drizzle of dark chocolate would have been perfect. But I made the mistake of tasting my wife's chocolate creme brulee and I regretted every tiramisu I'd ever eaten. It was incredible with a perfect crunchy sugar shell, a creamy chocolate center, and a bottom "crust" of rich ganache. WOW! So I'll overlook some of their mistakes, but next time I may only order desert.

Cute place, nice waiters serving pretty crappy food. And expensive for what's served. Their bread sucks. Basically a hoagie roll with some oil for dipping. Good complimentary olives to start. Guest and I had a glass of wine. 1 order of noodles with a few cubes of eggplant. 1 order of eggplant parm. Including t&t, $57!!!. Their prices make little sense. $18 for shrimp entrees and $16 for their eggplant. The noodles were nothing special. The cubes of fried eggplant were soaked in garlic. My eggplant parm was an appetizer sized portion. Very little eggplant which was cut into tiny pieces. More limp mozzarella than eggplant. The eggplant wasn't fried-- just limp and mushy. The whole entree was baby food soft. The mozzarella had no degree of browning from being placed under a broiler. Served with some angel hair pasta and watery/garlicky "sauce". There was a puddle of cloudy water under the pasta. $16 for this mess. They sprinkle parsley on everything. Like being back in 1977. We both left lots of our food uneaten. The waiter didn't appear to be at all surprised when we declined his offer to pack our leftovers. (and we live 10 min from the restaurant) IMO, what the restaurant really needs is some talent in the kitchen. Their service is just fine. Nice space. As other reviewers have commented, very loud. Throw a rug on the floor.

This is the best Italian I've ever had in ATL. I go to NY, NJ and other NE area Italian restaurants a lot, along with even the occational visit to Italy, and this is the best I've found in ATL. Simply homemade is the best way I know to describe the food. To me the tomato sauce is the base of all great Italian restuarants, if you can't get this right just close the place because nothing else you make will taste right. I had the priviledge of meeting "mom" once who was in the kitchen making the homemade "gravy", this is the tomato sauce for us southerners. She was great and loved explaining to me how she made it, our secret. :) Service is fantastic with the traditional male servers. They made great recommendations and all were spot on. I'm so glad they stopped the smoking and now allow kids. When I started going they were still smoking in the bar and per Roswell Law kids under 18 were not allowed, this cut down my visits to once a year. The only problem is the location, horrible. Very hard to find if you don't know where it is. And if you pass it turning around is not an option. Just follow your directions carefully and slow down or else you will pass it.

Gnocchi, gnocchi, gnocchi. That is all you need to know for Almafi. I had gnocchi from many restaurants in Atlanta, but Almafi's has the best gnocchi so far. I can't describe how good their gnocci is. Most Italian restaurants' gnocchi is very filling and heavy. Amalfi's feels light and is super tasty. Their gnocchi is covered in your choice of red or white sauce, mixed with mozzarella cheese. With other restaurants, once you are halfway through the dish, you want to stop because of the heaviness. That's not true at Amalfi, I actually want to keep eating even though I'm full. I tried their other dishes besides their gnocchi--it wasn't bad. The other pasta and appetizer dishes were tasty as well. It wasn't super amazing like their gnocchi. Their pasta is comparable to other Italian restaurants, but their gnocchi beats them all.

So my family and I tried this place out tonight. We ordered 2 appetizers and 3 main dishes plus dessert and wine. Food: Dish 1- chicken Parmesan with a side of penne pasta with maranara sauce. Very good my brother loved it. Dish 2- chicken Marsala with a side angle hair pasta also with maranara sauce. It was good, I enjoyed it but didn't love it. Dish 3- veal with fontina cheese and spinach sry I don't remember the name of it, but my mom seemed to enjoy it. It also came with a side pasta. Dish 4- a mozzarella grilled cheese app with maranara sauce, this was good and interesting. I enjoyed it, but very filling. Dish 5- clam appetizer, my parents both enjoyed this. Dessert- a chocolate chip cream brûlée which was really good. Wine- I usually like Rieslings so we got something similar sort of. My mom liked it I didn't so much because it had too much carbonation for me. I don't like carbonation. Serves- very good we had a great waiter and their good about refilling water. We also went at 6ish before it started getting busy. My family and I would come back to try other offerings. Ps- my dad got a meatball and shared all of our dishes. My dad and brother enjoyed the meatball. Give it a try for nice dinner out, price is a little high to go here all the time but for a nice dinner out, also their only opened for dinner. No lunch, and they don't take reservations that's why you need to go early.

I'd "won" an Amalfi gift certificate at a charity auction, so we decided to take advantage of it as dinner before seeing Tony Bennett at the Fox. We got there a few minutes before it opened for business and had a nice drink at the bar. I've been to Amalfi before, but I don't think for dinner with just my wife and I. Once seated, the place really began to fill up - lots of regulars schmoozing with Sal, one of the owners. Complimentary bruchetta was served - a very nice touch. I had the veal parmesan which was excellent. The portion was ample - great sauce. This was a while ago so I can't recall other details, such as what my wife ordered. But overall it was a great meal and prelude to the entertainment that was to follow.

Best dinner in years! Thanks to an Italian friend who get us a gift card, we went last night for the most amazing true homemade Italian food. Everything from calamari, meat ball, sausage, gnocchi, carpaccio, tiramisu, just succulent and fresh. Very real old Italian restaurant decor, and super attentive service. We will be regular from now on. Thank you Amalfi, and Salvatore ( the owner) for filling a empty culinary space in our life and our city. You have been in this business for 15 years and I do now know why!!

No sweet tea? Very loud, had to ask the server to repeat the specials twice. Dried, caked-on milk on the steaming wand of the espresso machine which is figuring and unsanitary. Never refilled my wife's water, her only drink. She had to drink mine. Food was average for an Italian restaurant, nothing spectacular.

I really, really wanted to love this place. First, Amalfi suffers from strip-mall-exterior. I always root for these underdog places, especially if they're in a complex with a chain resto over-done stand-alone. Don't judge this book by it's cover. They've gone to significant lengths to make use of their space here- you enter to the bar area, and there are two secluded dining areas. Probably 15-20 tables in the whole place. But it's charming, cozy, and generally inviting. The staff was incredibly kind. Being form LA, I've gotten a lot of Georgian hospitality in the past week and Amalfi was no different. You can tell they have a steady stream of regulars. Maybe I ordered the wrong things, but the food was good, non-chain, but nothing special either. I liked the olive oil in the opening course, but the bread seemed cheap. I had the pasta alla amatriciana, and the pasta was perfectly al dente, but the pancetta just seemed like a thinly diced ham steak. Could have used some red pepper flakes. Portion was right on. Pasta can be really hit or miss- too little and you're wondering what you paid $15 for, too much and you have a kiddie-pool of carbs and stomach ache. Anyways, I'd be motivated to come back and try something else if I had the time.

this is simply delicious Italian food! Almost everything is homemade, and the flavors of each ingredient really stood out. I finally found a chicken marsala in town that is not too sweet and is thin! The way it should be! The service was also excellent, and I can't wait to go back and try more!

OK - so why didn't I know about this! Being from NY and a huge Italian food fan, I had given up on finding decent Italian in the Roswell / East Cobb area. Amalfi changes that dramatically. Good food, good ownership (from Napoli) and reasonable prices. I had a very good Pescatora and my wife had an egg battered Grouper which was excellent. A good carpaccio to start with a nice Barbera d'Asti and our meal was excellent. So happy to find a decent place that's close by...

We really enjoyed this place, just one major clarification - this really isn't a kid friendly place. Based on the yelp saying they were, we brought our 2 kids - but they didn't have high chairs or a kids menu. We made it thru ok with our kids who behaved very well, but more a date night place than bringing kids under 10. But the food and service were excellent. The pasta was fantastic, and my veal amalfi was wonderful. My young daughter cleaned her plate saying how the spagetti was delicious. Nice wines by the glass including a yummy valpocella. Great place, just don't bring the kids!

We had a large party and the owner literally cussed us out after we waited an hour and asked how much longer it would be. You would be better served going somewhere where they value their customers. There are better Italian restaurants elsewhere in town.

Amalfi is Atlanta's hidden gem. You may have passed it going up and down Roswell Road and not even realized it, and that is a crying shame. This, my friends, is how Italian food is done. Take it from someone who grew up in Italy and has been disappointed by the so-called Italian restaurants in Atlanta. Had I not gotten over my hesitancy and gone to Amalfi, I would have missed out on the excellent food and service. Grazie per avermi invitato!

If you like Olive Garden...stop reading this review; that's not Italian food, it's crap! Good, you're still here. I've been coming to Amalfi's for years and I can honestly say it's the best Italian food in Atlanta. Yes, it doesn't look like much from the outside but don't judge a book by its cover. The restaurant is family owned and operated. The entire family is from Italy and the cooks are the Mother's/Aunts of those running the business. The food reminds me of what my grandmother used to cook for me as a kid in NY. It's authentic Italian food at its best. The portions are medium sized. Don't go expecting to be overloaded like other chains in Atlanta, they're normal portions. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu; my personal favorites are the Branzino (fish plate) and Veal Gorgonzola with prosciutto (delicious). Their desserts are very good and also typical of Italian restaurants (tiramisu, chocolate cheesecake, cannoli). My favorite is the cannoli because I'm pretty basic and they make a great cannoli. It's hard to find a well made cannoli in the South, believe me. If you're looking for a special treat during dessert, as them about their Bomba or their Limonhcello (not the drink) dessert. They're both very sweet and extremely tasty. Both are favorites of my family. The staff is extremely friendly and the atmosphere is great. If you're looking for authentic tasting Italian food look no further. It's worth the drive, no matter where you live. Come and experience some great Italian food and have dinner with the family!

Without a doubt, this is the best Italian restaurant in Atlanta. Hands down. From their Antipasta to their Entrees, everything is delicious. Their wine selection is superb and if you aren't sure what you'd like just ask Salvatore, the bartender, and he's sure to suggest the perfect selection. Want a food recommendation? My favorite meal combination is the Antipasto Italiano for my Antipasti Freddi and the Salmone alla Sorrentina for my entree. But they have so much more to offer! If you like Italian food and you like a family atmosphere (the restaurant is run by one family) then Amalfi Ristorante Italiano is the place for you!

We went on a Thursday night and had a great time. This is true authentic Italian food. We were sharing a had a great Caesar salad, had to order a second, the bruschetta was really yummy and ordered a stuffed pasta with spinach and ricotta that was amazing! Their by the glass wine list is pretty limited and just ok, but it didn't deter us.

There is something to be said about a restaurant that ensures its customers are treated very well. It's service like that which makes one want to return to a place - in addition, of course, to the excellent food. We found both to be the case at Amalfi's. Not only was the food excellent, but also was the service. This place makes their own fresh pasta in house, which makes for wonderfully delicious pasta dishes. On a busy Friday night, we were able to walk right in (presumably right before the rush) and sit near the bar. The atmosphere was lively and a bit loud, although I suspect that is because we were in the corner of the room. This place is bigger than it looks at first glance, with 2-3 separate areas of seating, including a full bar with the comradery you'd expect to find. The crowd didn't seem like the young, hip crowd - but then again, I don't go to a restaurant to "hang out" - I come to get great food. Amalfi's doesn't disappoint. The service was quick and attentive, the wine we tried was excellent and both our meals and appetizers were outstanding. Real, authentic Italian right here in Roswell - Can't beat it! We'll definitely be back.

Hmm... I use to date an Italian boy, and I was spoiled by his parents' home cooked meals. I mean really, where does a girl start? The wine, cheese, homemade pasta, slow cooked sauces (that's enough to make a girl fall in heart)! So, when it comes to Italian food, I guess you can say, I am quite the snob. Well, no longer do I have to miss those days, because I can just make the 15 min drive to Amalfi and eat myself into food coma. Oh yes! The service is wonderful, and always their recommendation is on point. And of course, what's and Italian meal without the grand finale being a shot of limoncello... *muah* magnifico!

A lot of people, my friends included, rave about Amalfi. It's cozy atmosphere, great, friendly service is actually what you look for in casual Italian restaurant of this type. It doesn't quite hit me the same way. It's not that it's not good, it is. The service was fine. And the food was good. We loved the big bowl of olives, we love olives! They don't have a kids menu per se, but the entire menu is portionable so go a head and get the spaghetti and meatballs for the little one, it is actually pretty good. You wont find chicken tenders for the menu but the 'mac and cheese' was really rich and creamy but not box like. Go to Amalfi, you wont be disappointed, just don't expect to be wowed or maybe you will. I'll go back and in fact planning to this week.

Ate here recently for 1st time based on reviews I saw here. The food was good; I just couldn't help comparing my dishes to those I've eaten elsewhere. - Gnocchi - I prefer the gnocchi at another Italian place just down the street - Chicken Parm - I prefer it at an Italian place off Holcomb Bridge (much better tasting sauce there IMO). The chicken was fairly comparable. Our server was good, but just a little different personality-wise. All-in-all, I likely won't be back. Not sure what others mean about seeing members of the family coming out to check on the food or to chat with the tables. We saw none of that. Agree that the place doesn't seem kid-friendly.

Once you walk into this restaurant and smell the food, your mouth will water! I LOVE the food and the owner/chef is a sweet old fashioned Italian woman. Dinner and dessert are the bomb here. I recommend this to all Georgians that live in Atlanta that travel to Roswell...

I have been eating at Amalfi for a long time as it is the most authentic southern Italian restaurant in this area. My background is 1st generation Italian-American and I grew up in NYC which has an abundance of this type of family owned and run restaurants that I can compare Amalfi to. I couldn't help notice the One Star review by Deanna and was curious to learn her reasons. After reading her approximate 800 word review where she states she has been a customer for 10 years, I came away with the impression she thought the food was wonderful, but her service on her last visit has terrible and "Gross" also the prices were too high. Let me ask, was one busy nights experience enough to wipe out 10 years of satisfaction with an approximate 800 word scathing review? Were there any earlier price increases in the last 10 years? Hasn't she noticed in general most prices have gone up this year? As a "Regular" for 10 years, did she happen to notice if her Waiter was new (they have been using 2 part timers recently)? I get the feeling her complaint has more to do with price than this one time experience regarding service. I would suggest she compare the price/value at other "Italian" restaurants, perhaps the Olive Garden.

Where to begin? We came to this restaurant because Sugo was packed, and we were told there was no wait at Amalfi. Big mistake. The grouper was overcooked and smothered in off the shelf marinara sauce ( the menu described it as fresh cherry tomatoes). The veal covered with spinach and crab meat and some specialty cheese, Amalfi's signature dish, lacked flavor and was so overwhelmed with cheese so that I could not taste the veal. The wine tasted cheap and watered down. The only thing that we had that was good was our appetizer soup, our italian bread, and olives. We ended up leaving half of our entrees on our plates. Unfortunately, we ended up paying just shy of $75 for the meal, and we definitely felt cheated. The only reason for the extra star was that our waiter did ask if we want the plates to be exchanged, but if what we ordered seemed to be the tastiest items on the menu, why else would we want to see what they had to offer? I would advise all self-proclaimed foodies to pass this restaurant and head on to Sugo down the street.

I tried this place out with my wife based on the reviews here. While my dish was interesting and tasty, it wasn't everything it's hyped up to be. If you are looking for old favorites like spaghetti, look elsewhere. Their menu has lots unique options, which is always good. The exterior may be deceiving, but it is actually pretty fancy on the inside. You pay for it in the price of the meal, however.

Great pasta, moderate prices, superb cannelloni. Good service too once seated. I would definitely go back if they got rid of the discourteous bartender. What a jerk, we almost left before getting seated.

They had quite a few vegetarian choices and the staff was quite helpful. The ravioli was a tad bit too creamy, could have added more flavor. The ziti was good. The bruschetta was OK but the order was really small. Tiramisu was really, really delicious. Loved the service.

This is my favorite Italian restaurant! It is a hidden treasure in Roswell. The service is phenomenal, and they remember you by name. The food is scrumptious! I eat here probably twice a month. You must try the chocolate espresso martini. The bruschetta, ziti, and lasagna are my favorite dishes.

Simply fantastic. Don't let the unassuming location or tight parking deter you from this gem. The lasagna (not on the menu - you'll have to ask for it) is unbelievable.

This place is what italian restaurants are all about. Mom and Pop ran, the food is amazing. REAL italians making and serving the food. The espresso martinis alone is worth the trip. Definitely one of the best italian places you can eat in the good old south!

OK....so I'm blind! I've never noticed this place and I could not believe it when I was here for the first time earlier this week and others eating there were regulars that had been coming for 8-10 years! And I drive this way to and fro work daily. I guess it is people driving in the wrong lane on that hill that keep my eyes off anything else. Their service here was superb and it is a beautiful little place with excellent food and all the "regulars" I spoke with made that just that more evident. I was sitting at the bar, clear up front for the 90 minutes I was there. During that 90 minutes, intermittently at least a DOZEN children I did not even realize were even there left the place. It was almost as if these children must have been gagged! Or maybe even, dare I say....behaving?! This place is located in a small, brick plaza about 1/4 mile South of the Sugo restaurant at the Clocktower Place Shopping Center. I look forward to getting back to try more things on the menu and have a feeling I will quickly change the rating to five stars.

Amalfi, formerly Savatore Trattoria, is by far the best Italian place in metro Atlanta. The cooking is by Sal's mom and truly authentic. The bar is always friendly and fun. They get a nice crowd and have a lot of very loyal regulars, who have found a gem in Roswell.

Best Italian food ever! Try there chicken parm (not on menu.) Everything we've had is amazing. There dessert of creme brulee is sooo good if you are not stuffed by the end of dinner! Good service , big portions. It is pretty expensive though. 2 dinners 1 soft drink, (a water) 1 dessert and cappacino = 60.00+ Totally worth the money for a special occasion.

We have been going to Amalfi since it opened (When it was Salvatores) and have never had a bad meal. We love the warm and friendly atmosphere. The bread and olives are on your table as soon as you are seated. Get the specials as they are always wonderful. Be sure to save room for the ricotta cheesecake. It is amazing. I have asked for the recipe but the chef has sealed her lips. It is the only place I have to have dessert. Good people. Can be very crowded on the weekends so try a weekday.

This is real Italian food! Every bite is just delicious. The restaurant is very small and easy to miss, but now that I have found it, I will be back often! I ordered sphagetti with marinara and asked them to add mushrooms - it came back amazing for such a simple dish. We saw a chef talking to a customer and she was an older woman who looked as if she could be someone's Italian grandmother. They were paying their compliments to her. Did I mention homemade pasta? And they brought complimentary bruchetta to the table that was scrumptious. Can't wait to go back!! I wish they were open on Sundays for dinner.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
