I like this place. Nice pub, nice atmosphere (except for the large back booth seating that separates the areas). The staff was nice and prompt with everything. The food is your typical mediocre bar food, probably won't eat here again but I will surely come back for drinks and music.

We have been here before and it was just okay. Tried again tonight and we were extremely disappointed. Fish and chips was extremely bland, even salt and malt vinegar didn't help. I got the lobster grilled cheese, which had some magazine award printed underneath it....it was not good at all. The bread was barely grilled, extremely dry. I couldn't even tell of there was any cheese on it at all and the lobster was cold and very bland. The French onion soup was flavorful but VERY salty. Needless to say, we will not be returning!

You can find the Iron Horse Tavern on the far side of the downtown Norcross square down the hill from Paizano's and Zapata. This is an English/Welsh style pub and part of the same series as Royal Oak, Bat and Ball, Ship and Anchor and Ye Olde Dunwoody Tavern - most of those are near where I work so I've visited them all - besides having a similar theme, they share the same menu (for the most part - the daily specials do vary a bit though). The interior is woody and dark, just as you would expect of a pub. There's an area to play darts and some booths to divide up the space a bit, otherwise it would be very loud and you do know it's loud when it's crowded on weekends and during trivia night. I like this place quite a bit - very cozy and great for kicking back and tipping a pint or two of bitters. This place get's some great limited-time craft beers (ask for what's on the rotating tap) - the best I've had here is New Holland Brewing's Poet stout - this is an amazing beer and worth trying if you haven't. Otherwise they have the usual mainstays found at the other pubs: Bass, Blue Moon, Guinness, Harp, Newcastle, Stella, Sweetwater 420 and IPA and Yuengling on tap. As for food, the best thing on the menu is the fish-and-chips - these are made with the best cut of the cod, no tough tail section here (pet peeve of mine) - you can get it with one or two pieces if you're hungry. Add some malt vinegar and enjoy yourself - you can't go wrong with this one. Service has always been more than passable and downright great at this location - they hire some real people with character, who know their food and more importantly, the bar. (longer review posted on my food blog)

This is my go-to place when I want to meet friends. It had (had being the keyword) a great patio, and is very dog friendly. Service is always great, and I've never had a bad meal. Asian steak tips & smoked salmon are my personal favorites. Then someone ruined the patio by adding a cat litter box...I'm sorry "bocce ball". As many times as I've been there, I've never seen it used once. But hey, if you want to take away seating and add a place for dogs to wiz and cats to dump at night, that's your jam. Based on the typical patron, horseshoes or cornhole would have been better ideas. The new patio "seating" is terrible. If you're looking to turn over customers quick, it's genius. Not only is it uncomfortable and look like something my grandfather built, but the tables haven't even been sanded smooth. Enjoy that burger with a side of splinters! The old seating was much nicer and more becoming of the area. This seating is fitting for a cheap cafe or bar in midtown. Because of the great service & food I'll return, but certainly not for the patio. I hope whomever made these changes starts to consider their patrons.

Funny thing... I went back to this place last evening and it was really nice outside and yet the inside dining was cold! I guess the kitchen staff run this place in spite of their customers being comfortable. Note to self: use the patio. I have concluded that British food sucks. Every Brit item on their menu is not very good, according to my friends and what I've tried. Stick with the non-UK foods and you'll be okay. Prices are so-so. The service was fair, definitely nothing to write home about.

I popped in this spot for a going away party for a colleague on a Thursday afternoon. As I was standing and chatting with friends, a server walked by with a hamburger, destined for a diner's table. At that moment, I knew I would be returning the following evening to try that burger. Thankfully, my husband does not have to be persuaded to go out for burgers. And my burger did not disappoint. The spicy jalapeno burger hit the spot! The sweet potato fries were a perfect side. My husband had the buffalo burger and was also impressed. Our young son had the kid-sized burger and nearly ate the entire thing (which is very rare for our finicky little one). My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. Great, casual neighborhood vibe. It was crowded, but there was no wait on the Friday night we visited. Service was excellent and attentive, and the manager or owner stopped by to ensure we had a great evening. I have a feeling this will be our family's go-to burger stop. And I look forward to trying a number of other things on their menu, like the fish and chips and even the gyro. Looking forward to becoming a regular!

If you love the smell of a gym locker room, skating rink, the inside of a belly button, or a house with hundreds of cats living there I strongly urge you to visit this establishment. I like and tolerate dive bars however was forced to eat lunch there with coworkers, the food was okay however I couldn't get over the smell of satan's butthole which hit me as soon as I walked inside.

Good selection of beers and a solid, yet interesting menu of bar food classics. I had the fried fish tacos which were exceptional. Very nice outdoor seating area.

$6 draft beer in plastic cups? Was that just for the St. Patrick's day rush? Just wasn't good. We sat at the bar. They were busy but I thought the server had an attitude. We ordered a dessert, banana trifle. It was unusual. Not bad but I wouldn't order it again. But really, 4 plastic cups of draft beer for $24? What?

We were in the downtown Nocross area for Heidi P.'s awesome YELP Elite event and decided to stop by to grab a pre-birthday drink. We as in me and my buddy, Tom E. We walked in and there were plenty of seats at the bar. We knew what we wanted to drink and our bartender was pleasant, courteous and efficient. It's a neat looking bar with the dark cherry wood furniture that I enjoy when hanging out at Irish pubs. The customer next to me ordered their version of bangers and mash and it looked "delish!" For now, this is a quick review about the quality of our drinks and service. I'm sure I'll return with friends for an actual night out and explore their menu options as well. The drinks were solid and well made. For a first impression, they scored 4 stars in my book!

The food was tasty. The staff was ok, not overly friendly, but prompt with bringing food and refills. I would have probably left a much better review, but I used the restroom before we left. I almost lost my lunch when I went to the women's room after my meal. The bathroom smelled like a dead something was hiding in it. I seriously could smell it on my clothes all afternoon. I mentioned it to the waitress and she wasn't surprised in the least, so I assume it's an ongoing issue. Needless to say, after almost tossing my cookies, I won't be going back.

I'm becoming a little obsessed with downtown Norcross and this little gem didn't disappoint. Great atmosphere, good food and lots of yummy drinks (of course!). I love that they have more then the "typical" Irish pub food. I tried their Mexican pizza and it was very good. Crispy tortilla crust with flavorful chicken. Definitely a place to visit again.

Cocktails in a pub is probably a bad idea. It sounded good to have a gummy bear martini but it was all wrong. The gummy bear was actually an old gummy dinosaur filled with jelly and the bar tender did not put in two of the main alcohol ingredients from the menu. Why do they have it on the menu if they were not going to do it that way? We also ordered a Strongbow but it was watery and no carbination. The fries we ordered were hot and delivered quickly. Not great, but they came with fun dipping sauces. We ate most of the fries by the time our drinks ever arrived. The bartender needs a new career. Some people were in there with young families having dinner and other young adults were playing darts in the back. It looks like some regulars come here and the menu has good bar food ideas so we will give it another shot someday. But probably not anytime soon.

Historic Norcross is a real treat. It is small but contains some hidden treasures like the Iron Horse. When I lived in Atlanta this was one of my favorite spots. Good food, service and always something interesting on tap. Dark paneling and darts inside, cheery patio outside. The food is good, I stuck to the standard pub grub. Great place on a rainy day to disappear for a few hours with a good book.

I have visited several times for lunch, service was appallingly slow on most visits. On one such visit my guest & I waited 10 minutes for a server (restaurant was around 1/3 full) and after several employees walked by the table without acknowledging us, we left. A subsequent visit had similar results: though we did receive drinks, none of the staff asked for our order throughout a lengthy wait. I placed a $5 bill on the table to cover the cost of the sweet tea and departed. My experience has been limited to lunch, perhaps evening/weekend dining is where this restaurant shines. I can say that the food is good if you can get it. My conclusion re: service is that the wait staff are not well trained and not customer focused.

  • Nicole V.

Oh my...these peeps got a lot of nerve having some dude stand outside telling people they cannot park in the lot next to the strip of restaurants because it apparently belongs to them. Let me add by saying there were zero people eating in their restaurant. I certainly will be one of those people by never going there again. Seriously???? I wonder if they pay him to stand there since he apparently works there (I asked him). The funny thing is that he waits until you park and pass them by before telling you you can't park there (because you didn't go to their restaurant). Why don't they just have the reject do valet and save people from re-parking their cars.

Probably a great watering hole, but not so good for dinner. Average service, average food and the place was a mess when we were there last night. Much better places to eat in Norcross, but the beer is delicious.

We have been going there recently to play trivia. Decent place, although small inside. Waitstaff is mediocre. Manager seems to really want to make people happy.....that's good. Our biggest complaint is the food. Really not very good. We've been there 4 times in the past 2 months and with a group of 4 - 6 people ordering something different each time, I have to say that NO ONE has felt like the food was good. Really too bad because this could be a much better place.

I have eaten lunch at Iron Horse Tavern on several occassions. I love downtown Norcross so the location is nice. The food here can be hit or miss. The last time I visited I had the Cuban sandwich. It was the pits. The ham was salty and thick like a piece of country ham you would eat for breakfast. I was very disappointed on that visit but today I went for a good ol' hamburger. I chose the California Burger which comes with Swiss cheese, mushrooms and avocado. The beef was tasty and the combination of toppings was very nice. My friend had todays' special, blackened catfish on a sub roll. She said it was very good. I've never had lunch there when it was busy. I imagine they do well at night since it's a nice pub with a full wooden bar, wood booths and tables. They also have outdoor seating which is nice when the weather permits. The service is always friendly. All and all I rate it A-OK.

The Iron Horse Tavern, in Historic Norcross, is a divey British-themed pub that has a few things going for it with even more things working against it. What's working in their favor: They have a great location and an ideal ambiance for a British pub - being situated in a 130 year-old building with exposed brick. The dart boards are a nice touch, and the patio area outside is excellent for getting a breath of fresh air. I liked their "chip shoppe" concept, serving fries with your choice of two dipping sauces out of about ten available sauces (though they should probably ditch the gimmicky and unwieldy clay flower pots that they serve the fries in). Also, the French Onion Soup was among the best we've ever had. What's working against them: The rest of the food there was average at best, and the prices were borderlining on offensive. Their sandwiches were unimpressive. A British tavern that didn't serve hard cider on tap? Something's wrong there. The service was also substandard - our waitress disappeared near the end of our meal, leaving us to wait for about ten minutes just to pay for our meal. With the location and ambiance alone, I think the Iron Horse Tavern has enormous potential - as it truly is ideal for a British pub. They just need to step up their game, perhaps with better management.

Overall a decent bar with decent bar cuisine. I like seeing the same servers when I visit for a feel of consistency. Some other reviewers have covered the negatives like dark decor, and sometimes inconsistent beer offerings, but I don't come to expect alot from taverns/pubs because your intent usually lies in the beer/liquors, which these guys have down pat. Over a good place, but nothing spectacular.

    (4)
  • Tristan B.

They always have a decent beer selection, and food isn't bad at all. Saturday night karaoke is QUITE entertaining, with many local regulars belting out their favorite songs. Get the Salmon BLT, or if 'Melo is in the kitchen, get him to make you his über hot wings (have to ask, they're not on the menu) and if you're a spice-glutton like myself, you'll enjoy every sweat-inducing bite.

It's my first time here but this seems to be a nice little pub. Good fish n chips and good Guinness (that is poured correctly). What more can you ask for. Next time I'm here I'm trying the shepherds pie made with New Zealand lamb. Also, Jason the bar tender is a great guy.

Stopped in for a beer and a Sandwich on 1/18, light crowd, very friendly server (Jason and Danni) and the Chicken Melt was very good!! Charming decor with a nice deck. I will go back!!

Honestly, I felt they were a little overpriced for the quality of food. (The quality of food not being that good) The sweet potato fries were pre-frozen. The NY-style Rueben was nothing like what you'd get in NY. Mediocre food overall; I could cook better stuff at home. Ambience inside was dark and needs updating. On the plus side, they have a patio.

Purveyors of fine spirits and adult beverages, Iron Horse has beaten their plowshares into the swords of the common man -- beers and bar food. Don't try to turn this establishment into some fancy, schmancy suburban uptight meeting house. Keep it for what it is -- a neighborhood bar. The clientele may not be upscale but the pours are good and the waitstaff is friendly. Just ask Jason the bartender to "be creative" and he'll figure something out. Haven't tasted the food but who cares, I was just there for the beer.

I always get their meatloaf. It's outstanding!! They used to have it in the sandwich listing and it was on Rye bread. That's still the way I like it. It's really fabulous. (A great blend of Italian sausage and ground beef, stuffed with spinach and mozzarella, served the size of a brick with mashed potatoes, veggies, and gravy. Also great as a sandwich) The reason I didn't give them more than three stars is that the place is kind of run down (not just rustic, but worn out) and we don't always get the best service, depending on the waitress. It's not bad, but even the front door has molding that's just wasting away. If not for that and the service, I'd definitely pop it up to four starts.

It was seat yourself (3rd of July celebration) and kind of busy. Definitely a "dive bar" type of vibe. We ordered the fried ribs (fried? huh?) and I don't think I'll order it again. Our waitress was super friendly. Beers are moderately priced at $4.50 ish...but I definitely wouldn't go back out of my way.

I love the atmosphere of Norcross Square, but the meal was a little pricey for the quality of food. My wife and I went for lunch and sat outside on a cool, sunny day. I think this place is an incredible bar, but sadly it just has bar food. The lunch menu was also smaller than I would have liked.

    (3)
  • John S.

Seems like an OK watering hole if you are looking for a place to drink a few pitchers. Menu has a lot of offerings but it is way over priced. They should charge half what they are asking. Imagine a place where the line cooks watch food network all weekend and try and replicate it, but don't succeed. The menu is all like all those yummy things you want to eat from diners, drive ins and dives except when it comes out its like from a ghetto IHOP on an overcrowded Sunday morning when the kitchen manager is not at work.

    (2)
  • Michael V.

I just had a beer here, because the place was smelly and the food on the other people's plates look extremely unappetizing. The beer even had a weird, sour taste.

The place was almost empty, yet nobody noticed we were there. Met with indifference, apathy and many a blank stare. Finally, a seat and word that our server will arrive soon. Minutes ticked by, May nearly become June. Alas, a young man approached, surly at best. Our drink order he took, away like a flash before we could give the rest. 13 years later, drinks came to the table. Still, taking our food order our server was unable. After a few desperate waves, he awoke from his snooze. "Um, did you want to order something...ELSE?", he accused. Our dinner was decent, the bangers...I've had better. In light of our experience, I left him a letter. "I'm sorry our presence seemed to annoy you tonight, not sure what we did to warrant the eye rolling and sighs. I hope it gets better." Left a nice tip, cause that's how I work, despite the fact that our server was a jerk. He's lucky I didn't leave him a terrible poem.

I went there for Trivia night on Thursday. The menu has recently changed. The place seemed well kept and the pub atmosphere seemed to be working the the decor. The staff was welcoming and friendly. Food- We ordered a fried mushrooms. Lightly battered but lacked real taste. I ordered the Gyro with chips. The serving was rather large and filling. would order again some of the other items order where the salmon BLT- enjoyed it rather much Indian flat bread Greek- pretty much just like the gyro except the serving size was smaller and needed a few more add-ins to really cover the bread.

Overall food was average. Nachos were probably the best thing we had at the table and the portion was nice. Service was the main downfall, waitress knew nothing about their beer offerings and messed up all the checks. Took 45 minutes to get the checks straightened out with an overly confrontational waitress.

This is my favorite bar in a 10 or 15 mile radius. Great food, good selection of beers on tap, full bar, good service. They have everything you need. They even allow friendly dogs on the patio (they'll bring you a doggy bowl of water, so your furry friend can drink too). As far as food goes, I recommend: Trio dip (or something like that). It's goat cheese, olive dip, and hummus with grilled pita bread. It's a starter, but it's a lot of food. Mediterranean Salad -- delicious. They have more than greek/mediterranean food, but i'm sucker for olives.

My friend invited me out to the Iron Horse last night for trivia. Her usual teammates were out of town, so she invited me to tag along. I'm always up for trivia, so I figured why not? Had they not closed off the streets for some event, parking would've been a bit easier. We still got a parking spot about a block away. It wasn't super crowded, which was nice. We could find a table easily and settle into trivia mode. She ordered the pretzels with cheese dip and I got the Jamaican Rub burger. The pretzels were good, if a bit on the salty side. My burger was also just "good". I couldn't really taste the blackening seasoning they said was on it. They were also a bit stingy on the blue cheese. The fries weren't half bad, either. Considering it only got more crowded, service was good. Our drinks stayed full and we never had to struggle to flag someone down. It also seems to attract an older crowd, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I think I'd rather be around a bunch of drunk 40-somethings than 20-somethings. I didn't partake of any of the booze, but it seemed to be flowing freely and the other patrons were heartily enjoying it. I'll be back, probably just for trivia, as the food alone isn't enough to convince me to make a second trip. Perhaps I'll keep trying things on the menu and see what they're really good at. Oh and non-smokers beware. Smoking is allowed after 10pm and they definitely take advantage of it.

Fried ribs unexpectedly savory with a hot-wing- like vinegar sauce, tender and juicy, the bone so soft you could bite through if you were so inclined. Lamb kabobs are a bit tough if medium so oder them rare, the olive tapenade sauce is a perfect balance. Pita bread is too spongy not real pita but adequate. Asian beef tips with hoisin sause melt in the mouth and go down really quick. My 3yr old loved them. Bite size and sweet perfect kid food. Tortizza is a pizza made with big flour tortilla very thin crisp topped with sweet marinara a thick even layer of cheese and medium amount pepperoni.

Being part of the Dunwoody Restaurant Group, they have the exact same foods as the Royal Oak Pub near my house, so I was happy to see that. Ambiance here is a bit more open than RO, and I like the trivia setup they have here. It's digital, and more like a jeopardy board on the TV with 30 seconds to answer by pushing a button on the remote you get. Moves along much faster, which I like. The night we went though, our waitress was somewhat of a spaz. I literally had to put my hand out in front of her to stop her from walking away from me as I was trying to order something. I honestly scared the daylights out of her, but she wasn't paying a bit of attention to us the entire time we were there. Drinks didn't get refilled in a timely manner, and she just didn't seem to care. Either way, the food was still good, service just lacks at this location. I'll stick to my pub over in Sandy Springs.

As a frequent visitor of Historic Norcross, I have a definite appreciation for this place. Iron Horse brings an understated party pulse into this small downtown area that's been missing for years. The authentic, English-inspired spot has much to offer any pub lover: an intimate atmosphere, easy-going staff and killer beer selection. If you're one who wants more than that, they also have dart boards, a pool table, and a really nice deck for the warm season, not to mention a great weekly schedule of themed nights like trivia, poker, and karaoke, which takes place on Saturdays. Ohhh the karaoke! If you're looking for some sweet karaoke in the area, you must check this out. They usually get cranked up around 10 pm and if you don't feel like getting up and singing yourself, you're in luck; you can just watch everyone else. I love karaoke here because there's never a shortage of folks wanting to get up and sing. And if Doug happens to be there when you go, you're in for a treat. Plain and simple, I am a fan. Iron Horse has a casual, yet comfortable, attitude that I can dig, and carries just about all of my favorite beers. What more could a girl ask for? Well, toilet paper in the restroom would be one thing, but I totally give them a free pass for the last time this happened. They were crazy busy and were experiencing some overflow from a wedding, I believe. But next time, Iron Horse, I expect to see some tp-stocking improvement. Oh, and for those of you complaining about the food, please remember that this is a bar that just happens to serve food. I wouldn't go in expecting a quality of food that you normally get at a restaurant that just happens to serve alcohol. Obviously.

Food was nothing special. The goat cheese spread was not good. The turkey burger tasted like it was reheated. The best part was the atmosphere and Tuesday night trivia.

Jigga booooo!!! Not going back to this place on principle. Today we went over to downtown Norcross for lunch and parked in one of the lots. We are walking up the sidewalk trying to decide where to eat and out pops this fellow and he tells us we MUST move our car because that parking area is for Iron Horse guests only. First of all, we hadn't decided where we were going but we weren't going to be forced to eat there because we parked where we did. After further review there is a sign that says "Norcross Tavern Parking Only." Well, this sign is small as shit and I have parked here before and never been told to move my car if I wasn't eating at Iron Horse. Second, this place isn't even called the "Norcross Tavern" it's called the Iron Horse. Get a new sign and make it visible from both directions. It isn't even visible from the direction I pulled in from. Finally, how about you stand in the effing parking lot attendant. He saw us pull in but waited until we were all out of the car and almost past the restaurant to tell us to move my car. If he would've been standing IN the lot this could have been handled much more professionally. I could have easily rolled down my window for him and he could have asked me if we intended to eat there. I would have said probably not and he could have told me I couldn't park there. Don't wait til I have my fat ass all the way out of the car and walking past the restaurant to tell me to move it. Dude, whatever. I was just annoyed that I had to drive around the block and park on the street 10 feet from where I had originally parked. This little side lot had virtually NO cars in it because no one eats and the Iron Horse probably because it sucks. Anyway, as you can see I'm annoyed. My coworkers and I all decided that we will not be going to Iron Horse EVER. Boo yah! I will take my business else where....yaaaahhhh....suckas.....

Great bar for trivia, getting together, playing pool, throwing darts, taking your dog (on the patio), watching a game, etc... OK to "a bit better than OK" for food. Place is frequented by people who live near it, and those who only work near it, so it can be a very different crowd of people on any night, but never have to worry about anything too extreme.

It's nice that historic Norcross has a pub, and I like the location. The service, beer selection, and staff are all good. Trivia on Thursday's is a blast. Food, on the other hand, seems to be an afterthought. The flatbread pizzas are decent, as is the french onion soup. The pot pie, bangers and mash, and other Irish fare are not amazing, but not terrible.

I have yet to have a bad meal at the Tavern. I have been there over 20 times since I move to the area and have never been disappointed. Trivia is a blast and the was there for New Years and St. Patrick's Day. The prices are good and the environment is fun. Service is decent but if you are ever unhappy talk to the manager (who is amazing) since he is very attentive and is there all the time. Parking is not an issue unless there is something going on in Historic Norcross. To summarize: enjoy and drink up. This is very much a neighborhood tavern but more refined and better food.

Food was excellent! I ordered a veggie burger and side salad. The veggie burger was topped with mixed green salad, hummus, and a nice fresh sesame bun. Service was fast, but the server seemed a bit nervous and inexperienced. Overall, this place was great for lunch, and they even had drink specials on a Thursday afternoon.

i went to this place for a trivia spot on a thursday. the trivia was good - this restaurant however - i'd say pass. i love the historic norcross neighborhood but go 2 doors down to Piazannos for better food for the value. the pretzels and cheese - love the cheese but the pretzels are the microwave super pretzels you can find in your grocery store freezer; and yes, the restaurant microwaved them b/c they were kinda tough to eat and moist on the bottom like they were previously frozen. can you at least make fresh pretzels?? this place would be unstoppable if they made their own pretzels and dough. i'm not paying for something that was frozen and microwaved from the store! i had a tuscan chicken sandwich here my last visit and it was splendid; as was the side salad with mixed greens. this time i went with the tortilla pizza and it was mostly cheese - needed more marinara! also not much chicken on it. boo! it was NOT memorable and i did NOT eat my leftovers. when i got my water, it had a gross dirty mushy stuff on the rim; it was promptly replaced. a few of the small appetizer plates were dirty, as was some of our silverware -- they need a new dish washer!!! our waitress was good but the rest of the waitstaff seemed listless and didn't let me walk in front of them - i always had to wait if we were crossing paths (as it was trivia and you bring answers up and back). kinda rude. no one greeted us at the door & there was no sign to say to seat yourself. a few patrons and the DJ had to tell us to seat ourselves. uh service please????? it wasn't that busy. my husband liked his food. as did my other companions. i just have had way better for the price in other neighborhoods or restaurants so unless you can't find a place for trivia (watch out for X! he wins all the time) then go here. parking is ample.

Norcross has a tavern in the downtown area. The bar staff is very friendly and have a good selection of beers. Its easy to get in out and parking is not complicated at all like midtown. Anyways this is my place to go for beers on sunday.
