We've been there many times now, and have gotten to know some of the staff very well! Lola (4 yrs old) loves going there, loves the show, and certainly enjoys going around and giving the staff hugs. Maybe that's what we need to get better service? Well... maybe that's not very appropriate for all. But we went again last night, and had a wonderful experience! We usually (9 out of 10 times) ask for JJ as our chef. He's from Hawaii, and he can really put on a good show. He always makes sure the food is cut extra small for Lola, and will go out of his way to keep her, and the other guests entertained. We've had our bad times there as well. We've had bad chefs before, and we've sat with some real WINNERS! But overall, we've always felt they provided consistently good service, and wonderful food. Please please please... keep in mind... I'm only talking about the hibachi part of the restaurant!!! I already have my favorite sushi places, and am very biased! lol

Decent food can't make up for the worst service ever. Last time I was here I waited 10 minutes before my DRINK order was even taken. When the appetizers arrived, the miso soup was grossly cold. Tonight my sister wanted to come here, and I had a similarly horrible experience with the service. I didn't receive the sauce I specifically ordered to go with my dish. I waited 15 minutes before I finally got the attention of another waitress. By this time my food was already cold. When I asked to speak with a manager about my experience the waitress replied, "he's very busy" even though the restaurant was essentially empty besides us and two other couples. Food is just okay and overpriced. Can't make up for terrible service.

We went here for lunch for my brother's birthday. I love the decor... much nicer than the other hibachi places I have been to. I ordered the salmon hibachi and it was great. Portions were a little skimpy but that was the only drawback. Everything was perfectly seasoned and cooked. Waitress was also good in giving us refills. Our cook was entertaining and accommodating to our extra sauce requests. Parking at the Forum can be an issue during the lunch stampede but maybe you will get lucky like I did and pull up just as someone is about to leave. I am planning to go back to Aomi soon.

Came here on a Saturday for lunch. Their hibachi chef had a less than mediocre show. Im used to seeing food flying and flames shoot up high. All the chef did was cook our food. The hibachi menu was overpriced

Great deal for lunch. The hibachi is not great but not bad. The service is consistently poor.

This is fairly typical theater-style hibachi at super slow speeds. Mind you, I understand that things can get backed up on busy nights. However, when my co-workers and I went on a Wednesday night at dinner time, busy was not the proper adjective. Dead would be more accurate. I was a little worried by that, but since I didn't want to derail everyone else's enthusiasm, I kept my mouth shut. We were seated and began to wait. And wait. And wait. It was at least ten minutes before someone took our drink orders. Another 20 before the drinks came out. Another 20 beyond THAT before the chef actually appeared and cooked out food. I found myself pondering what the staff was doing in the back. Catching up on their soap operas? Shining their shoes? Whatever it was, they were certainly not tending to their two measly groups of diners. The food was decent, but it wasn't mind blowing. It certainly wasn't worth the wait. Pass!

Definitely the best hibachi place in town. Beats out all the rest in terms of food, atmosphere, and service.

I really like Aomi. I've visited three times for sushi and have not been disappointed. The Ocean Yammy roll is my favorite by far and I discovered the Salmon Teriyaki roll on my recent visit (also a new favorite). I like the décor. It has a modern feeling to it and you can tell they put some thought into the setup. The menus even feel expensive in their heavy/thick metal binding. The pricing is a little higher than other places - with the specialty rolls approaching $12, but there are selections in the $6 range, but it doesn't deter me from making this my new favorite sushi place. Seating is somewhat limited, so I don't recommend it for groups. It's best if you have a small group of 2-3 people. They do apparently accept reservations, but I've never needed one. ..And as an added bonus for me - their bar menu offers Mojitos!

I was hoping to be the FTR, but Kit beat me to it. I guess if I have to get beaten by someone, I can deal with that. I work in the Forum, so I've been watching this place go up for months. Last night a friend and I decided to try it out. We opted for the hibachi rather than table service. Why not? I got the shrimp and chicken combo with fried rice. The fried rice was really good. I was glad only 3 people at our table ordered it because it meant we got a lot. Yum! The veggies were a little uninspired and heavy on the carrots, which I wasn't too fond of. The shrimp and chicken were also tasty. Our chef appeared to be the most animated of the bunch. He put on a good show and kept it interesting. The price seemed pretty reasonable for the amount of food we got. The fried rice was extra, but I didn't feel like paying $22 for 5 courses was a bad deal. If anything, it's a little cheaper than Benihana and pretty much the same quality. I'll definitely be back.

Hibachi wise... Been averaging a visit 2 times a month for a while... Experience can range from Good to Awesome! Never had a disappointment here. It can get very busy (so you might expect a longer wait time). However the experience is better than most hibachi places around (Kani House and Happy Sumo). Depending on the hibachi chef your experience can vary but still can't find a better hibachi place as of yet. The chicken and salmon are different here in that they take one more step and put a nice sweet sauce to finish it off. Meat won't taste dry! As for price, typical compared to all the other Hibachi place. Hands down best hibachi place in the Norcross/Peachtree Corners area.

I went to this place since it is only 1.2 mile from my house. We had the hibachi grill with Filet mignon. The taste is alright. But what really annoyed me is that the restaurant manager (or owner) kept talking in their language to the customers whose whole family was sharing the same grill with us. The manager was talking so loud, I simply cannot enjoy my food or even concentrate on my plate. By the way, I had never seen a smaller vanilla ice cream scoop (dessert came with the meal).

My team and I went here last week for our monthly lunch outing, and it was a hit! They were a bit short staffed (I guess everyone's group went to lunch that day), so that delayed us a bit, but the hibachi chef was very good! I'm a fan!

My experiences at Aomi have been mixed. I go there from time to time when I want to branch out from my usual places, but I don't really ever think "omg, must have Aomi!" The ambiance is nice (and seems to get nicer each time I go in, with more decorations and such). There is a lot of attention to detail in the decor. I wish the chairs at the sushi bar were more comfortable, however. The wait staff is average. The first time I went in they were out of every single drink I ordered; finally after I expressed my frustration the manager came over to make things right, but I should not have had to "get huffy" before he addressed the issue. In general, though, they are fine; not too fast, not too slow, not particularly friendly or unfriendly. I very much enjoy the drinks, since there aren't all that many places in Duluth to get fancy "martinis." The drinks could stand to be stronger, and once or twice I've received apologies from the wait staff because "the bartender isn't here yet." But overall, just fine. The sushi at Aomi is fine so long as you stick to rolls. I can't order sushi or sashimi there because the sushi chef always cuts the salmon with skin still attached (yuck). The rolls are all interesting and delicious, though. The hibachi is also quite good. Overall: Aomi has strengths and weaknesses, but in general is a tasty and nice place to hit up from time to time.

We arrived at noon and had to wait around for a while because no one was at the front. We had to wait a couple minutes for our table as well, never mind the fact that there were no other customers in the restaurant. I got the feeling that they still weren't fully "ready" for customers, even though they'd been open an hour already. All the staff seemed very out of sync with one another. Our party of 7 ordered the hibachi, which was okay... The food was plain, and the flavors were nothing special. The rice was really, really dry, too. I don't understand. How do you mess up a bowl of rice? Also. The employees MUST work on their music selection, because 2 hours of "Just the Two of Us" on repeat is 2 hours too long.

I've been to Aomi a handful of times not because I especially enjoy it but because it's convenient and fast. My first time there was a Tuesday dinner and the best out of all the times I've been. Walking in, the decorations and vibe is very relaxed, laid back, and stylish which is nice. My friend and I were 2 of 6 customers there so we had more than enough help. We both dined in but ordered the hibachi steak and scallop. The portions are fairly large and the thing that keeps me coming back is their hibachi fried rice. The garlic and butter and corn mixture they use to make it is the best fried rice I've tasted. I come back everytime I have a craving for fried rice. My third time stands out because I order two rolls that came messily which made it difficult to eat. After I was about halfway through, I found a nice long strand of hair in the sushi. Cleanliness is one of my top priorities so I was horrified. After complaining the manager stated that all he could do was have them remake it for me. Why would I want the same sushi roll made by the same man who's hair was in there in the first place? I politely declined. I've been there one or two times after that with nothing extraordinary or horrifying standing out. Overall it's an average restaurant with just as many pros as it has cons. If you decide to go, my advice is dine in and order the hibachi with fried rice. -A

The restaurant tried to scam us with the type of sushi we ordered. We ordered the "fatty tuna" sushi and they brought out regular tuna (which is much cheaper). When I asked them to confirm w/ the sushi chef, they first said it was fatty tuna. When told there was no way that fish was fatty tuna, they then changed their story and said they didn't have it. If they didn't have it, one would think they would ask if we want regular tuna before trying to pass it off as the much more expensive variety. We had the check adjusted for the regular tuna; but I would imagine if someone who didn't know what it looked like had ordered, they would've pocketed the difference between the $18 fatty tuna order versus the $4.95 regular tuna order. No telling how many people they've already scammed like this. Beware...avoid this place; I certainly will NEVER go back.

This is so far the best hibachi experience I have ever had. I had the shrimp and chicken combo with fried rice (get it- totally worth it like someone else mentioned). Our chef was a little weird though, he cracked odd jokes and expected everyone to laugh at them. Oh well, that didn't ruin the food for me though! The decor is nice and the staff is pretty friendly too.I would definitely go here again.

Finally a great sushi place in Norcross!!! Having just moved here from NYC, I often like some good sushi for lunch and I am THRILLED to have a place to go! The Aomi House Roll is amazing, pretty much every roll I've tried is awesome and the fish is so fresh you can't beat it. I go with friends from work who don't eat raw fish and rave about the hibachi. I can order my sushi while they eat chicken teryaki and everyone is happy. The decor is great and the prices aren't too expensive. All in all, it can't be beat!

This place started out really great and my wife and I have been eating there since they opened but after my last experience I will never be back. All of the food my wife ordered came out wrong including the drink and when we attempted to get it straightened out the manager was so completely unprofessional that we ultimately decided against eating anything at all. I have never been so offended or had such rude service. I thought that Mambo Italiano was the worst the Forum had to offer but the service at Aomi took things to a new low. When we first arrived there seemed to be no organization at all as we had 3 servers come by and greet us at separate times each time going through the exact same routine as the first as if we had just sat down. To make a long story short after our orders arrived we brought our concerns over the mistakes in the order to our servers attention to which she replied and offered to get a manager. The waitress was polite and we expected the manager would be able to fix everything. We start to explain that the drink was wrong which led to us being interrupted by the manager to tell us about how it wasn't wrong as if we had never ordered this before and don't know what should be in it. Most places would nip it in the bud right there and just give you another drink but this manager proceeded to draw it out and started telling us how it was in the computer and they couldn't take it off and someone would have to pay for it and that would be the server if it was not us. So basically she is trying to guilt us into taking a drink we did not order and paying for it?! I'm sorry but your mistake! What sort of sorry restaurant makes you pay for their mistake?! The manager then sent our server back to the table with nothing having been resolved! Now we have a server standing here telling us what she can't do again. So I finally demand to speak to who ever has some authority in the place and the same manager came back to the table. At this point we decided to leave as the whole argument with the management left us with no appetite for their food. This manager then proceeded to claim to be the owner and tell us she was the one in charge and we couldn't talk to anyone else. So basically Aomi cares more about one drink than they do any past or future business. That to me screams going out of business soon as the typical clientele in this place is not stupid yokels who will settle for crap service. I have never been so offended at a restaurant period. If the horrible woman we spoke with isn't really the owner then I would love the chance to speak to the person that is because they should know that their weak and unprofessional management style is going to at best cost them to lose a lot of money. I know we wont be back.

We are regulars at Aomi and we always get a great show. One chef is especially talented with the pyrotechnics that totally make the hibachi experience. Every time we're in he ups his game. Pretty much always get fillet and fried rice and that fried rice is totally worth the up charge. It's a little pricey and seems to have gone up a bit recently but that won't deter us!

This is a great hibachi place, lunch specials are really great, the price is soo good for what your getting. The food is really good, and the staff is so friendly. You can eat for two under 30 dollars for dinner. The prices for this place is amazing and your getting more than your moneys worth!

I've only been for the hibachi, so that's what I'm reviewing. I've been here several times and all of them have been excellent. The food and the service are always excellent, and the prices are on par with similar restaurants. The chefs are usually energetic and involved. They always seem to make sure you are having a good time and good food. One particular occasion is what earns a five star review: I was entertaining guests visiting from out of town. They had never had Japanese hibachi; it was getting late; I knew just the place. I took them to Aiomi, only to discover that they were just about to close when we walked in the door. The host and the waitress insisted that it wasn't a problem and that we should stay. Now after the place is closed a chef comes out, whips up our food, does his thing, and doesn't even hint that he is annoyed that we are still there (we're the only people in the place) The food was excellent, and they even thanked us for coming... Late as it may have been. I tipped them very well, and we all left impressed with the great food and service. There are other good hibachi restaurants around, but Aiomi is top notch.

When I used to work in Norcross, I would frequent Aomi often. Now that I don't work in Norcross, I still manage to stop by whenever I'm in the mood for lunch in the area. Big, roomy, and oftentimes busy but not overly so, this is one of my favorite spots to grab a bento box or a hibachi lunch. Both are a great deal! My favorite bento box is the fish katsu, fried fresh and served with a delicious sauce and a host of sides, it's a sure bet you won't leave hungry. The staff is very friendly and service is quick. I recommend giving this place a try!

Excellent lunch with large group. Took up both grills. Food is always good st Aomi. Started out with salad w/ ginger dressing, soup, and then perfectly grilled shrimp and chicken, veggies and fried rice. Wonderful Chef that cooked my meal fabulous. The rest of our group enjoyed their meals also. Plenty of food to take home enough for a snack or meal. Most guys will finish their plates. Great service, food with sushi and hibachi that is delicious. Lunch prices are great being $10.99-$14.99 for hibachi. Haven't been at night, but love the lunch prices. Aomi is at The Forum and so close to work. I go at least every other week and have gone a couple of weeks in a row. Do not ever get tired of the food. For a fun dining experience, I recommend you go here soon. Can't wait for my next visit! :-)

If you're going for hibachi, you can find better options. However, I have not found better sushi in the area. This is about the only local place I'll order sushi from at this point. The Mexican roll is one of my favorites. They have a large selection of specialty rolls and are an easy place to order take out from. The edamame, miso soup, and house fried rice are also good.

I have been here a few times now over the past years. This time we came for my best friend's 21st birthday. I feel so sorry for our waitress. People coming in at all different times and split checks. As a waitress, I feel her pain. Our waitress was polite and sweet. Every time we needed something, she would get it quickly. Our water glasses were never empty. The inside is very nice. 5 stars for the decor. Now, lets talk food. I have gotten sushi here before. The sushi rolls are mediocre, but it really just depends on which ones you get. The chef puts wasabi underneath the fish when you order nigiri. If you can't eat spicy, remember to ask. I was in for a surprise! The hibachi chefs are so fast and cook amazing food! I had the shrimp and scallops. Delicious! No complaints here, just a happy stomach.

It is a shame and for no reason at all that these folks just cannot get their act together. For is actually fine, not great. Service is consistently horrible or slightly below average. And, they don't care and act as if the cannot understand what you are saying at times. Add to this the rumors (or fact?) that they have recurring issues with the health department inspections. We need a better sushi option!

Came in on a Sat night around 8pm for a friend's birthday. Not crowded at the time with only one other group there. Cute decor and atmosphere. Typical hibachi routine. Food was mediocre. Rice was cooked first and the rest took awhile, so dont go in starving. Also theres an extra charge to get the fried rice ($1.95) A bit pricey for the food, but plenty to take back home (hibachi chicken $15.95) They also had a good selection of sushi options, which i didnt try (but highly doubtful on the quality)

First time here, diningroom was pretty dead for a Sunday night dinner. Seated very quickly but service was extremely slow. I had to goto the Sushi Bar to have the chef find out waitress. One that hiccup was overcome the food and service was very good. We have sushi, salads and entrees and everything was as expected. One thing that was really odd, the sushi chef would ring a bell everytime an order was ready for pickup. This was very annoying and killed the ambience.

If I could give this no stars I would. My meal was fine, but upon getting the sorbet for desert there was a clump of hair in the bottom. When I told the server she said it was my hair and I put it there. I was appalled! I will never go back!

What the hell? We were first to the table and seated in the corner. The goddamm corner. It's not like they were to capacity or anything. At least it puts the tip into the zero zone. The hibachi chef was flawless. His food was perfect and skill entertaining. He gets 5 stars!

Always solid sushi. We love to sit at the bar for the speediest service. The Red Bulldog Roll is a personal favorite. The menu is riddled with adorable typos and the servers aren't very nice (just very cold), but the food makes up for it. As far as hibachi goes, it's run if the mill. Not the showiest or most talented chefs, but yummy food.

I've been coming to this restaurant for years. Their food, service and atmosphere is incredible. One of their servers, Song, makes my day every single time I come in. She has such a sweet spirit and is a pleasure to talk to! The atomic bomb roll is one of the best sushi rolls I've had in my entire life. Whenever family or friends visit from out of town, I always take them to this restaurant. You guys are the best!

NEVER EAT HERE! Unless dining with HUGE bugs is your idea of a good meal. If I could give this place a -0 rating I would. The service is HORRIBLE!! And now to add live cockroaches to my dinner service on top of a crappy wait staff. Last night a group of friends and I got together for dinner and a HUGE bug flew onto our table. We alerted the server, he attempted to grab the bug and missed, the bug ran across the other end of the table and he was finally caught and killed. The server looked at us shrugged his shoulders and said "it happens". We asked to speak to a manager and were informed that a manager was not available. It took over 2 hours to resolve the matter. We NEVER saw or spoke to a manager and the restaurants customer service and handling of the situation was the worst EVER. This isn't their first time with these problems check out the health department website and read their scores they have failed with a 58 just 2 months ago....one violation included not disposing of trash properly hence the presence of HUGE COCKROACHES! NEVER WILL I EAT HERE OR PATRONIZE THIS BUSINESS AGAIN!!!!!!

This is the sushi house on "The Forum" Shopping area. The restaurant is quite big, with sushi and hibachi area. Went for sushi and it was overall ok. We had a regular chicken fried rice, salmon teriyaki and simple salmon rolls were also decent. Nothing remarkable. The service is not bad, as well as the price. A fair option for the price for sure. But there are better dining options in the Forum.

I rather drive to Alpharetta than go here for Japanese Hibachi. Their food doesnt have enough favor to it. The "show" is the same as other places. Service is okay, reason for 2 stars, they are friendly. But the food? Blah....go to Haiku in Alpharetta.

    (2)
  • Liz K.

There's something I really love about hibachi and it has nothing to do with the show they put on. I crave for the fried rice, veggies, and the share of meat and seafood they give you. Also, the table is always happy because everyone else around you is so enlightened by the chef's show. Aomi is reasonably priced for the amount of food you. The ambiance of this place is dim and traditional Japanese. I really like the environment here. I thought the service and food were both spot on for a "small" hibachi restaurant. They also have a dining area as well as a bar. I want to go back! I LOVE hibachi.....

Horrible service. We waited for about 15 minutes before we even saw a server. Then when she did come over she asked if we were ready to order. People at the table next to us left because they had not been seen. Our server didn't even ask how we were doing.

It had been a hot minute since I last had hibachi, but we were having a Friday night out after work and there are so many places to try in the Forum. After four years working up in Peachtree Corners, I think I've officially tried all of them. (None were ever on my food bucket list, but all have been solid suburban dining for what it's worth.) We got to Aomi at 5:00 and had a drink at a bar. It is worth noting that no one goes to happy hour at a sushi/hibachi restaurant and that they have a really bizarre drink menu including fruity cocktails and a Long Island iced tea. I opted for a glass of sauvignon blanc - definitely not $9/glass quality but oh well. Once we were all there, we asked the hostess for a table. The restaurant is divided into the sushi side and the hibachi side, so either you get a quiet meal or tableside dinner theatrics complete with flames. We opted for the flames. It's your typical hibachi style restaurant seating. The hibachi entrees range from something like $17-25, so you might as well just go for the filet for a few more bucks. The soup and salad are bland and slightly below average, but you're really paying for the hibachi experience I guess. I will say I forgot how entertaining (albeit cheesy) hibachi dining can be. Our chef did the whole flaming volcano onion, knife juggling, and toss a shrimp in your mouth like your Shamu deal. He was actually the best part of the entire experience. My favorite part of the whole meal was the fried rice, which I doused in an obscene amount of the crack-like white sauce. The chicken and steak were okay but certainly not excellent. Honestly I would have been really disappointed in the filet if I hadn't mixed it in with the fried rice and addictive white sauce. That stuff makes anything taste good! Honestly Aomi is overpriced for the quality of the meal, but it is a fun experience to do once in a blue moon. It will probably be another decade until I have any desire to eat at a hibachi grill again, but I would definitely go back to Aomi if the mood strikes.

Terrible. If you call yourself a sushi joint, you need to have a full offering. I went there for my birthday lunch. My order was Uni, Masago with quail egg, Inari, an order of Tuna, and a Roll. The waitress comes back a few minutes later to tell me that there is no quail egg. "Thats ok, I will still have the masago." The first thing to come out was my order of roe. It was the wrong type, so I sent it back to get masago. 10 minutes later all of the rest of the table's food came out and I was informed that they didn't have uni or inari. I kind of just sat there with my jaw on the floor. The waitress walked away without asking me if I wanted anything else. That pretty much sums it up. I have nothing to add.

i read some of the reviews and tried this place out a few times. Unfortunately it is just not very good. Maybe good for hibachi or other foods, but do not go here for the sushi. While the service is OK, the quality of the food (at least the sushi) is just poor.

I do recommend Aomi for its sushi and sashimi, but don't expect authenticity or amazing service. Firstly, its sashimi is pretty good. I like the lunch specials and the deluxe selection. However, they do seem to be prone to running out of things and not realizing it until later. Aomi's sushi rolls, however, have much to be desired. With names like the "Ocean Yammy" and even an Atlanta Falcons roll, you might notice that this isn't the most authentic Japanese sushi place around. It I order the Dynamite roll, which is kind of on and off with its taste. Sometimes it goes overboard with the crab/mayonnaise/etc. mixture on top of the spicy tuna roll, making it horrendously rich and completely masking the flavor of the actual roll. As for service, it really depends. I came here with my friends and our waiter never checked up on us or even asked for our drink orders until I had to call her several times from across the restaurant. It wasn't even busy. I came here with my family and service was all right, probably because adults seem to hold more "authority." What I do like is that when we asked for "cho-gochujang," a popular condiment for sashimi in Korea, they made it for us right there and then even though they probably didn't have the actual bottle of "cho-gochujang" on hand. I really appreciated that. Overall, come here to fix a sushi craving. But don't come here if you're looking for the real thing.

Went here for lunch yesterday and the food was good. It's kind of difficult to screw up hibachi, right??? The staff is especially friendly and service was speedy. The only complaint I have is the empty 5-gallon soy sauce buckets sitting around in plain view. Two of those nasty looking buckets greet you at the front door. Another one is in the bathroom filled with cleaning supplies and a few were line up on the wall in the hibachi area. PLEASE move the buckets to an area where the customers can't see them!!!!

Thank goodness I had the beer - so that I could sterilize the panko-fried turd on my plate.

Beautiful place! The service is OK but the food is just excellent... Best Japanese restaurant in the ATL for me so far! Delicious.

Horrible service! Family came for a birthday party on a Sunday evening about 6 wasn't busy. Our server was inpatient to take orders and wasn't very vocal and coughed all over us and never covered her cough with her elbow only with her hands then past us our drinks by the rim. We never got refills without asking or having to get up and ask and look for a server. We will stick to going to takis in perimeter for better service.

Just walked out of Aomi for the last time. My colleagues and I have had lunch there several times over the last couple of years. Sometimes even business meetings. The food is pretty good, but the service has always left something to be desired. Service today was rude and unbelievably slow. It took at least 15 minutes before a server arrived to offer us drinks and take our orders. It took an hour and a half to be seated, order, and get our checks.

I really enjoy this place. I took my parents here for dinner and we did habachi. We were seated right away and our drink order and entree orders were taken quickly. Our cook was very entertaining as they usually are. The food was delicious. I ordered the filet mignon and chicken with fried rice and David cooked everything perfectly. It's so fun watching these guys cook. Our waitress kept our drinks full so start to finish I had a great experience. The menu may seem a little pricy, but the portions are very generous along with the quality of the ingredients IMO. I will definitely be back. I generally view this place as more of an occasion based destination, but it is delicious. Definitely recommended.

Wanted to go somewhere different for Mother's Day, so I chose Aomi Japanese Restaurant for a new experience (I have been to other Japanese restaurants).. The food was great and plentiful and all of my party left with to-go boxes with lunch for the next day (yum yum).. I read a few of the other comments and yes it is extremely loud, but it was due to the close environment .. the chefs were all very funny and made sure there was participation from everyone at the table .. we all had a blast .. they also have an option to share meals .. this is great for kids or adults who don't eat that much .. and the price is reasonable ..the only issues I had were that the waitress was never available when we needed more drinks .. it was like she disappeared .. the other issue was that our table was not cleared after we had our salad and soup, so we had a lot of clutter .. other than that, we had an EXCELLENT experience and we will return ..

And the winner of the worst service at a restaurant goes to... *drum roll* Aomi!! Our waitress, Yoojin, should really never have gone into the restaurant business. Yoojin told us to not order things off the hibachi menu. (warning sign number one). I ordered the vegetable tempura and it was the blandest thing I've ever ate. I politely asked if I could switch it out for fried rice instead, but Yoojin said I couldn't and that I'd have to eat it. First off, no restaurant forces you to eat garbage. It's standard procedure for them to switch it out if a customer complains. It's not my nature to send food back either. This is the second time I've done it (the first was due to hair in my food). Secondly, when I asked to speak to a manager, I was told there wasn't one on staff that night. No wonder our server was being a bitch. I went to talk to Krystal and she was very helpful and let me switch out the nasty tempura for mediocre sushi. I ended up being charged extra for the meal i refused to eat, and was just so fed up with that place and tired of arguing that I just paid the extra 3 bucks. Do yourself a favor and take your hard earned money elsewhere. I'm never coming back to this place EVER.

My husband and our 2 year old daughter were in Norcross visiting the Atlanta area and I am happy to say, Aomi was great! This was a nice surprise considering we ordered take-out and take-out is not usually as tasty as eating straight from " the grill" :) We also ordered around 9:15 pm so the fact that it was still good and fresh was definitely a nice touch. We ordered the new york strip (med) & shrimp combination with fried rice, no onions. :) the steak was cooked perfectly and the teriyaki shrimp was also good . (not as good as the steak, the shrimp was just a touch tough, but nothing a little shrimp sauce couldn't fix.) the meal originally comes with steamed rice, but we upgraded (for 1.95) to fried rice. it was just right, not too salty. the portion on this 21.95 meal was a little small in my opinion, however, the meal came with MISO soup (this was a delight, i was expecting a mushroom onion soup!) & a ginger salad, so it was plenty of food for the 2 of us to share We also ordered 3 sushi rolls--California Roll, Calamari Tempura Roll, & the Volcano Roll. The sushi was really the best part! The California Roll was crisp and fresh (8 pieces) (4.95) & the Calamari roll was pretty good as well. (4.95)(8 pieces). The Volcano roll was delicious!!!! This is a california roll topped with a spicy seafood mix of crab, shrimp, spicy mayo, etc. The flavor was really good, not too overwhelming. Great with the wasabi (which by the way came in a huge awesome portion!) and soy sauce. One of the things I didnt like was that they didnt pack any to-go silverware. Only chopsticks. I was checking the bags and noticed they didnt pack any of the shrimp sauce and only had put 2 packets of soy sauce in my bag. Like that would be enough!!! :p but that's why I had to ask for extra extra LOW SODIUM soy sauce & shrimp sauce. The gentleman obliged so I had to leave a tip. :) Overall, it was a great meal for under 50 dollars. We had more than enough food for the 3 of us to share, and still had left overs. I was very impressed with the quality of food for being ordered at such a late time. Just wish I could have had a to-go fork & extra shrimp sauce...! Thanks Aomi for a good meal on vacation!!!

Fun, and good food. Great place to celebrate. Wait staff can sometimes be slow to bring a drink, but chefs keep you entertained.

I'm giving a 3, not for the food quality but for the customer service. I ordered the 2-roll lunch special and once I started eating, realized I was hungry enough for the 3-roll special. I was sitting at the sushi bar and asked the waitress who was very nice. She then told the sushi chef that I wanted to change to the 3-roll. He promptly told her in a loud voice that I could not do that. Said I needed to order the 3-roll the first time otherwise I needed to pay full price for the additional roll bc he didn't want to have to void and re-enter my order. Now, the rolls are terrific and I'm sure I'll suck it up and come back but the way that guy handled what I thought was a simple request was very rude.

3 of us decide to go this place after some thought and I have to say we werent disappointed at all. "Hibachi" style food excites me in general but this time it was the chef who made it even more enjoyable. Good value and nice to have your group around the grill and enjoy hot smokin food :)

I was very impressed with the service, menu, and food. This place is close call with Benihana's except they have a larger menu. I love my options and this place gives it! For an appetizer we ordered hot sake, octopus sushi and sashimi rolls. I didn't eat any but my date was in love with it. I ordered the Spring Rolls which were very basic but freshly cooked. For dinner we has hibachi terikayki and filet mignon/scallops. Both were awesome and the chef was hilarious. He even talked us into Saki bomb (didn't take much convincing). The decor was very modern yet classic Japanese. Not quite cheesy like I think the decor at Benihana's is. I strongly suggest trying this place as I am adding it to my list of favorites.

A poor experience at Aomi..went with family for Hibachi dinner. The waitress felt like she did not want to be there...ordered sushi and Tilapia hibachi dinner..the spicy tuna sushi was quite dry and no zing at all.. The Tilapia was tasting frozen and not edible...left it on plate and was done. cook was good and funny, and also mentioned to waitress the issue. Waitress did not make any adjustment on bill...when asked she suggested that they could take off $4 on an expensive priced meal...asked for manager who was not available...after suggesting she call him, there was an agreement to make the adjustment more meaningful...very disappointed with Service, Food and general attitude.

The hostess informed me that parties of one can not be served via hibachi, only from the kitchen. I found that to be rude and I left the establishment after not being served. A friend of mine had recommend it to be a good hibachi grill however I guess I will never know.

I went back to Aomi for my birthday and had a less than satisfying experience. I ordered the hibachi with shrimp and split a tempura shrimp roll with my husband. The roll came out and had a most unappetizing shrimp vein dangling from the tail that was sticking out of the roll. Shrimp that is not cleaned properly is one of my restaurant pet peeves. I go to great lengths when I cook shrimp at home to clean them and I know it can be time consuming but the reward outweighs the time sacrificed and it's a very simple little procedure to perform. It seems like restaurant 101 to me. Freakin' Applebees deveins their shrimp properly. So I was willing to overlook the sushi roll shrimp vein and chalk it up to the one that got past the shrimp prepper. I was happily enjoying my hibachi until I unwittingly bit into yet another shrimp that was not deveined. This time, I had the unpleasant experience of ending up with a mouthful of sand. Yes, sand. Not only does that in-tact gastrointestinal tract offer you a mouthful of shellfish excrement, it also offers the sand that the shrimp has ingested along the way. Happy birthday to me! So that pretty much ended my meal. I started digging through my plate and noticed that about half the shrimp were slit down the back to remove the vein but of those only maybe one quarter had actually been removed. The rest were still hanging on for dear life. I've rambled about shrimp veins long enough now so I will conclude by saying that I might possibly go back to Aomi because they do still have some of the freshest sashimi in Atlanta but I will never, ever order shrimp there again and I am rethinking their status in my hierarchy of favored quality seafood restaurants.

Okay no. I would go more with 1.5, but I'm not feeling rather nice after today to make it a 2 rather than a 1. LONG. GRAIN. RICE. It is not what you use to make sushi, period. Maybe in your house if you are using your hands. But a Japanese restaurant should NOT be using anything but short grain rice to make their sushi, sorry. I had so much rice just sitting on the plate because it does not hold together like short grain sushi rice does...it's called sushi rice for a reason, people. And since now I'm being attacked by a random orangehead here: I only said short grain sushi rice. SHORT GRAIN. Because you know what happens when you use long grain? Sushi implosion. The rolls we ordered looked like shit. I am horrible at making sushi, and I could have made a better avocado roll. This one was made way too loosely, and of course combined with long grain rice, it fell apart rather fast. The Vegas roll, aka a tempura fried Philly roll, was the worst looking sushi I've ever seen. Honestly I wish I had bothered to get a picture, but here's the best way to describe it... Picture a normal sized roll, but now shaped as an oblong to 2 times its normal size, then cut into 2 times thinner pieces as usual. It was impossible to pick up, let alone eat in one bite. We had to ask for more wasabi, since the ginger to wasabi ratio was 10 to 1. Of course for some reason she also brought more ginger even though we already had a surplus. This is not a complaint about too much ginger. This is a complaint that it's just weird to not get much wasabi at all. I ordered one of their martinis, a Cherry Blossom consisting of raspberry vodka, peach liqueur, and white cranberry juice. For $8.50, and a martini at that, the vodka was barely noticeable. It tasted almost solely of cranberry juice with a touch of the liquor. And maybe I should add how do I ask someone to fix it up when nobody came back by until we had our sushi? And no, don't be an ass and tell me I should go find someone. I'm not there to play hide and seek. It was in no way worth $62 plus a tip. I almost feel bad for even having this meal. But at least the land and sea roll was rather good for being an odd kind of sushi I would normally avoid. Not even $22 in alcohol could save that. It really does look like a nice place, and the sad people of Norcross dress like it is...hell they show off that some no name Falcons and Braves signed placemats, but that obviously doesn't make good sushi. If Yelp does not remove Laugh O's 95% dissection/5% review, then join me in laughing too~

I've been to Aomi several times and each time its been rather inconsistent until I got to know some of the people there. First there was Mr. Kim and now Jay and Terry -- the sushi chiefs of Aomi. The people are quite friendly and welcoming. Given how I only come for the sushi, its only fair that I rate solely on that. Since I've gotten acquainted with the sushi chiefs, I must say my sushi were rather nice in terms of quality and presentation. Of course I am speaking from a somewhat bias critic, however, I can't deny the hospitality that I have been experiencing the past several visits. As for the decor, its rather nice. Dark wood, marble counter tops, spacious, clean. Great for groups. I have not tried their habachi, but it looked quite tasty. Price range is fairly decent. I do see the different reviews of the place, but in all fairness, its decent, nice, and friendly. However, the only downside is when its busy, you may feel a bit neglected. Other than that, its worth the visits.

Aomi used to be our favorite place to eat. However, over the last year, the quality has gone sharply downhill. We rarely eat at the hibachi because it is so over priced, but it is usually delicious. The other regular menu items have taken a turn for the worse. The meat doesn't seem to be as high of a quality anymore. It's also true that the servers are slow and rude. I think I'll look elsewhere for my Asian cuisine and sushi.

I first went here with my co-workers since I work in the area and I've been a fan ever since. The hibachi is standard fare but the sushi is pretty impressive. I love the atmosphere and although parking can be a headache (spots in the forum go quick) it's worth it even if you have to park a little further and walk. Love the sushi!

I've been here..a lot! I typically go on Sundays, and it's not really busy. We always get the Aomi Special, which is Shrimp, Steak, & Chicken w/ fried rice. It's always more than enough food for us. My 4 year old loves it too, & she's a picky eater. The only downside is that they take quiet a while to refill your drinks!! The show is usually the same. The ambiance is quiet & nice for the family.
