Food is really good. Great chips and salsa. Guacamole being my favorite of course. But I will say I didnt have awesome service when I was last there. I am a server so my patients is really vast so if I complain about service not being good. That means to the average person its awful.

I've always enjoyed going to get different Mexican food from Paradise South! Can get busy sometimes but the menu has nice variety and the food is quite delicious! I recommend the cheese dip, very yummy here!

This is not authentic Mexican as I've seen suggested in other reviews. This is americanized Mexican without a doubt. They have your tacos, enchiladas and burritos but they also have chicken sandwiches and crappy French fries. If you're looking for good hangover food or just a quick cheap bite to eat then you've come to the right place. This is not health food. This is greasy, cheesy goodness, so eat up.

Met friends out and had a wonderful time. Plenty of outside seating. You can either order off the South of the Border menu or the Paradise Grill Menu. I had the prime rib and cheddar sandwich which was very good and a couple of beers. My wife had the fish sandwich, side salad and 3 glasses of wine. Service was very good as was the food. We enjoyed the evening and left very satisfied. Normally we meet friends at South of the Border for wings and beers every other Monday so if you come into the bar and see a couple of table pushed together and middle aged people enjoying beer and wings then that would be us!

Food was horrible, nothing authentic about it. You can make better Mexican food in your kitchen. Just order burgers and drinks and save your money.

So good! I had a chicken chimichanga with their brown/veggie rice and black beans. Very generous portions without being over the top. A lot of places like to smother everything in cheese and fry the crap out of the food, but everything was just right. The chimichanga was lightly fried, and there was a cheese sauce on it that was just out of this world. My husband ordered a combination platter with three items, again very generous portions. They accidentally brought out the wrong item for one of his items and our waiter immediately brought out the correct item and let him keep the wrong one anyway. He also had two cocktail drinks which he said were great. We had a friend with us who got a giant mug of beer for what seemed like a pretty reasonable price too. Service was superb, our waiter was super nice! He was obviously new and came back to our table once or twice to make sure we were getting what we wanted, for example he came back to verify whether we wanted a certain ingredient in a certain drink. This is the kind of thing that another waiter might have just assumed instead of taking two minutes to walk back to the table to ask. The price is right, you can expect to pay what you'd expect to pay in a chain restaurant, but the quality of the food you'll receive is way better.

Favorite part was the gringo selection on their menu...so much for being p.c. My street tacos were excellent. Smothered burrito was all rice no meat. Crispy tacos for the kid ....the ground meat was soft and mushy...yuck!!! Think I was the only Mexican in there... That should have been my first sign:(

Friend was in the mood for Mexican so we saw this place and stopped. It was 6pm on a Friday and already really busy, but no wait. It's in the heart of the suburbs and there were a lot of families and children. Our service was pretty slow (i think because it was so busy) but nothing that made us too upset. We ordered the queso with jalapeños. It was delicious, but the smaller portion was just barely enough for two people. Then we finally got a drink menu and ordered skinny margaritas. Probably the worst margarita I've ever had. I didn't even finish it. It seemed like it was just tequila and tonic or something, like they missed the lime juice. I ordered the taco salad which I thought was a small portion but no complaints about the taste. My friend ordered a combination meal that was huge and looked delicious. By the time we were leaving, probably 7pm ish, there was a wait.

My family eats here at least once a week -- sometimes 2 or 3 times! Great food and service! Best salsa around. Burritos are as big as your head. And believe it or not, they have the best chicken wings, hands down. Try the paradise style wings!

We went here for dinner tonight and we thought it was great! The servers were very friendly, the manager came over & welcomed us & even the teenager who brought chips to our table went out of his way to be friendly. The Fish tacos with mango salsa were really delicious and the beer was ice cold. Great experience! We'll be back!

my wife, baby, and I went at about 2pm so we were not doing drinks and not during a rush hr time so that might change the service. service- Pros- Fast order to table time Cons- Well for one the waiter kept calling me Papi. not in like a scarface "oye Papi" either it kind of creped me out. I asked about the taco's size he responded by giving me an idea with his hands. ok cool. I said ok its a good size then cool. mind you im not a small guy but not huge either I am tatted up prior military/Security dude with a high and tight. I put off a don't touch me/get away from me vibe. I don't like people in my blind spots. he decided it was a good idea to pat my belly a couple of times and say yes its a good size for you while calling me Papi. Dude really? Food Pros- Brisket, chicken, rice and beans were ok. Cons- poor food quality, didn't taste the freshest My wife ordered a beef enchilada. she took one bite and moved to her chicken tacos. after a few minutes I asked if everything was ok she said she had to let her food settle because the first bite she took of the beef was so greasy it made her stomach upset. I thought she was just having an upset stomach from being pregnant. I took a bite of it to check it. grease oozed out of the spot I just cut and pooled into the dish. Taco Bell Beef has less grease and more flavor . needless to say that wasn't touched after that. I had Mole' sauce added to my tacos. I'm not sure how they make their Mole' but I've been eating Mole' for 24 years.... that was not it. Over all The atmosphere was ok. They still had up 5th of May stuff. its September time to take it down. the feeling in the place seemed to be more of a bar with food items rather than a food place with a bar. the price was good if the food was eatable. I spent 26 bucks on 3 eatable items (rice and Bean being 2 of the 3). the place seems like something you would see on Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares. reminded me of the episode he told the owner to concentrate on Quality not Quantity this place has way to many options it doesn't do well rather than having a few options it does extremely well at. maybe I'm to much of a food critic since my dad has been running food places for 24 plus years but we Will NOT be returning. find some where else to eat for 30 bucks. if your set on "Mexican" go to Taco Bell its more authentic Jack-in-the-box soy tacos pass of better "beef"

Somewhat disappointed by it all. I met a group of friends here because it was close to our next destination. Friday night 9-19-14...not overly packed and we were seated within minutes - party of 8. The server was awesome, responsive and filled our drinks. What struck me odd is how dark it was - I couldn't even see my food and when I started eating it, I couldn't taste what was supposed to be in it! But because everyone else had been served, I said nothing. Won't go back.

Been there twice now and thought it was definitely above average for mexican. Chips and salsa is a 7 out of 10 with a 5 being your normal mexican restaurant chips and salsa. It's definitely not life changing but if you like mexican food...and most of us do...then this is a good place for better than normal mexican at prices and menu options you are familiar with. Our service was good the first time and GREAT the 2nd time...luck of the draw I suppose. Atmosphere isnt anything too great but we like it well enough...its definitely got a pretty good energy to it.

My go to Mexican restaurant when I want nachos. The portion is large enough for 2 of us to share and the price can not be beat

Quite possibly the worst meal we've ever experienced at a Mexican restaurant. Very disappointing all around.. At first impression the menus had food all over the inside and the restaurant did not seem very clean.. Funky smell I think from the carpet. We had the South of the Border tacos and a combo. Our food took about 25 mins to come out and when it did everything was soggy/watery. The $1.50 charge for the guacamole, sour cream, tomato and lettuce is ridiculous considering there was less than a teaspoon or the sour cream and guacamole. Our server was polite but seemed to be struggling with her attentiveness in the beginning and then again when we needed to pay for our check. We dined here many years ago and thought it was pretty good so maybe we just hit a bad day but won't be returning to know the difference.

This is by far our favorite Mexican restaurant. The staff is excellent and the place is very kid friendly during family hours and a good place to grab a drink after hours. The Chorizo cheese dip is stupid good.

Went for lunch and really shoulda noticed all the folks who had salads and sammiches instead of Mex fare. (They did have a dedicated lunch menu, but service wasn't as fast the pared-down plates should've been.) Anyway, went ahead and ran the test -- street tacos and fajitas. You'll know everything by the time the food arrives. Sure enough, no actual fajitas but Tex-Mex stir fry. You can always tell when your meat is dwarfed by a bed of onions and peppers and the chicken is browned on all sides, indicating it was not cooked as an intact breast. Three tortillas off a truck and cafeteria quality rice/beans/guac accompanied the stir fry. For $8 that is a fail. You could do much better at a Chipotle. Street tacos were slightly better, showed a little pride. The chorizo topped with grilled spring onions was nice and the carne asada functional. But at $6 for two shoulda had a slice of avocado or two. The cafeteria rice added nothing. As it was I got $2 worth of food with $.50 worth of prep. Not a winner. I see no reason to expect the rest of the Mex fare to be any better. On the up side, not as completely horrible as Chepe's.

Paradise South of the Border is my favorite local Mexican restaurant and I go often. 80% of the time I'd give this place 5 stars, but occasionally the service is slow or the food isn't quite right, which is why I ended up giving 4 stars. Those times are always disappointing, but the majority of the time this place is excellent. I'm a big fan of their queso fundido -- order extra tortillas because they're tasty and you'll need them! Their nachos are great, and I love their chimichanga and "loaded burritos" (or something like that) where the meat, rice, and beans are all stuffed inside this monstrous burrito. The boyfriend usually goes for fajitas or any sort of meat cooked in sauce (carne asada, for instance) and those are all tasty, too. They have trivia on Thursday nights and nice outdoor patio seating that often has laid-back live music.

  • Dan B.

Wow is the music loud. This is a great place. Great menu, great beer selection, I really want to go again. But...the musician playing on Saturday night is cranking the speakers so loud that its making me wish I was working at an airport landing strip to give my ears a break.

Cilantro makes me sick. I saw that there was cilantro in the complimentary salsa so I pushed it aside. I placed my order and told my server I wanted the "supreme version" as long as cilantro was not on of the ingredients. She said she would talk to the chef. My meal, enchiladas, came and was covered with cilantro. I got my check, my waitress Taylor, was the best, and I mentioned that she should tell the chef that the guacamole he smeared all over my food was loaded with cilantro. I got very sick. The part of the meal without cilantro was really bad. Guess I will only eat Mexican food in TX. Will never go back again.

Really decent Mexican food, good salsa. Good service, good drinks. This place is almost always crowded and can get pretty loud, so if you want lots of conversation, you might have to go elsewhere or yell. Also, your clothes will inevitably smell like fried food when you leave, so don't wear anything too nice :) good outdoor patio seating as well.

I'm a big fan of cheap Mexican food and am always on the look out for new places but 'Paradise' this aint. Having lived nearby a few years back, I was excited to see that my lacrosse league scheduled a few games just down the street. Having been here twice now, I don't see a reason for a third visit. First post game visit, we sat down for a few beers and the street tacos. The beer was good and the service was pretty quick but the street tacos were disappointing. Just a few bits of (way) overcooked steak drop on a tortilla. The second visit, I had the wife and kids with me and this go round was just dismal. Although they were generous with the chips (do we really need a full basket for each person), the service was really slow. Ordered a margarita this time - typical sour mix and cheap tequila but not horrible - not sure why it took nearly ten minutes to make. The food was truly disappointing. My son had chicken nachos - chicken was dry and virtually no seasoning. I had one of the 'specials' - #14 - relleno, burrito, taco. The taco was ok, chili relleno and burrito were stuffed with the same flavorless chicken with cheese sauce dumped over the top. My wife ordered one of the salads. Not sure how you can screw up a salad but they managed. No black beans as listed in the menu, no dressing and wet lettuce. This place seems to do a pretty good bit of business - they are just going to have to do it without mine.

The folks who wrote bad reviews are a bunch of whiny hipsters pretending to know something about "authentic" Mexican as evidenced by those recommending Chepes's across the street where you can have the same $9 meal for $29. PSOB offers great food and drink at great prices with a great staff. My favorite Mex in East Cobb!

    (5)
  • J. S.

The food is heavy in salt and the wondrous cheap filler that is onions. Not anywhere near authentic Mexican food and even lacks that distinct flavor. Service was good but I wasn't here during a peak time. I didn't see it as being kid friendly; standard chicken tender type offerings.

    (2)
  • Kurt M.

Is this "AUTHENTIC" Mexican? No, but it's as good or better than anything else around and WAAAAAYYYYY better than Chepe's -talk about OVERRATED. In addition, I've NEVER gotten stale chips. The salsa ain't chunky style but it's fresh - come on NOTHING like "ketchup water" as someone else described it. The food I've eaten there has been neither "greasy" nor "icky" lol - I mean really? You get big portions. The prices are right and the service is great. What else do ya want out of an EAST COBB joint? Seriously folks, lighten up, have a cold cerveza and enjoy.

Food is not good unless you are a fan of unseasoned food. The restaurant is basically a soccer mom hangout.

  • Matt K.

This place could be awesome but has some serious flaws. For starters the inside dining room is ridiculously loud and always full of screaming kids. Naturally you might choose to eat on the huge outdoor patio. Unfortunately the outdoor patio is filled with smokers so all your food will taste like an ashtray. To top this off the tacos are the greasiest you will ever find. It's not all bad, the patio has great potential and they even have live music on Sunday. The owners should consider tweaking a few things to make this place better. A non-smoking patio, or at least a designated smoking portion, and cutting down on the cooking oil would go a long way to help. Right now the best thing this has going for it is the lack of other restaurants in the area.

Dull Mexican style food. Nice folks working there, but five stars? Not even close. Try Chepe's across the street for a much better option.

Love it! Had lunch there and the lunch portion was huge! Can't imagine the size of dinner! Staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. Prices are very good for the amount of food you get.

Loved it here. I had fish tacos, guac & chips while hubby had enchilada soup. All were very good. The new manager stopped at our table. Explained we are not regulars, but we will be back. Worth the drive. Not sure about the previous reviews, food was not greasy and very fresh.

Good Tex mex. Good service. Just remember their normal flavor has a kick and you have to ask for mild.

This is one of my favorite restaurants. I still drive up to Marietta from Decatur to eat here. Their Mexican food is hit or miss (avoid the fish tacos) but their real gem is their wings! They have some of the biggest, juiciest chicken wings I have ever eaten, and their lemon pepper seasoning is amazing! I also really love their nachos, which are huge and slathered in generous helpings of everything that makes nachos yummy! I really love their salsa too--so much flavor! Be aware, it's not chunky salsa, which is why some people might give it bad reviews. I have always had great service. Yes, it's on the noisy side, but I don't go out for Tex-Mex when I want a nice, quiet atmosphere.

Went their for the first time with my daughter for her birthday along with her husband and child. WOW!!!! Great service (Ashley) and OUTSTANDING food and flavor. (Fish tacos blackend)mmmmmm. Not authentic Mexican but it taste damn good. I highly recommended this place for dinner with that Tex/Mex flare. One word ENJOY!!!!

  • Jerry P.

First, the meals are very good and the Frozen Margherita's are excellent. On the negative side, the chips are usually stale and the salsa is a lot like ketchup with a few chiles and water added. The patio is as good as they come and as at least one other reviewer noted, it is extremely noisy inside. Now keep in mind I have no kids. I don't see that as the issue. For whatever reason, the adults feel compelled to broadcast their conversations. I'm not looking for a quiet environment, but inside on a Fri or Sat is ridiculously loud. Service and price is very good and reasonable.

Giving Paradise South of the Border another star. After being forced by my brother to eat here a few more times, I finally found an acceptable menu item. The chicken fajitas are the only item I have found to be acceptable for consumption. I like the fact that they use red peppers in their fajitas. Its a nice touch. Other than that its still pretty generic but at least it tastes decent. The other menu items I have tried were icky! Still overpriced in my opinion.

Friendly, casual sports bar atmosphere with a great selection of sports bar type food as well as a full line of very good Mexican food from the uniquely connected Mexican restaurant. I have dinned there often and the prices are very reasonable as well.

Oh Man,I Love This,I Call It East Cobb's Best Most Authentic, I mean Extreme Authentic Mexican Food,This is beyond as Good Is It Gets, This is the 100% Real Deal, and the people there are so friendly,it's like your kichen table away from home, ask for.Employees to request:Waitresses;Ashley,Mary,Lauren.Waiters:Mike,Joe,Castor,Cappy.,and the bartenders Melissa, Amy, Karla and Sarah. That's the Staff Names, and they are all very, very great souls, some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Now let's make ourselves hungry talking about the Menus(Food,Beer and Margaritas):Tacos-Soft Corn Shell, with shredded beef-Burritos,the same way,Enchiladas I prefer the Green Sauce(Salsa Verde, other than Red SaUce/Salsa Rojo).-Refried Beans and Rice-Of Course is always a must.I always prefer a 24 oz. Cold Can of TECATE minus the lime. And the best Margaritas in town, now these are called Top Shelf Margaritas. One's enough ,trust me there.I love PARADISE South Of The Border,LOVE IT ,LOVE IT,LOVE IT.I highhly recommend this Mexican Restaurant other than any other Mexican Restaurant in town.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
