I figure that I should probably write a review being that I've been a dedicated customer for the past 3 years... I've tried a couple different stuff here and they're all solid korean food especially being all the way out here by Marietta/Kennesaw area. However, the main reason I come out here is for the Goat Soup/Stew. It's pretty much their specialty and it tastes like its been made by God himself. Make sure to get the fried rice made with the leftover broth at the end! But as much as I love it, YMMV for this type of meat.

I passed up a trip to Buford Highway because this place is only 5 minutes from my home. At least I know to not make that mistake again. It looks unsuspecting from the outside, in a small strip mall next to some survival shop. Sadly, it looked quite unsuspecting on the inside too. Aside from us, there was one other patron there on a Thursday evening. Well, at least we got good, albiet interesting service. We were seated promptly, our orders came out in a reasonable timeframe, and we didn't even have to push the little button that's common to Asian restaurants. Also common to Asian restaurants is the lack of tact from staff. Our server was picking on me for "being a typical man" for not properly putting my leftovers in the box. She said it several times and it became a running joke. I'm fine with it, but I doubt every guy would laugh it off. Food wise, we got your standard banchan (small side dishes). They were all OK, but none of them were great. No whole fried fish either. We also ordered some Korean style eggrolls (basically triangle shaped eggrolls). I'm a little sad to say they may have been the best thing I ate that night. Sad because my entree was a $21 galbi BBQ dish. The meat seemed off-- not sure if it was the thickness of the meat, the marinade, the cut of the meat? (only two pieces were actually stuck to a rib bone). Even the rice was pretty bland. I know it's steamed white rice, but I know it has a nice flavor when you cook it well. I should add that the serving size was generous, enough for me to eat again later. It tasted even more sub-par reheated. All in all, a disappointing trip to a new Korean place. I've been to Tofu Village before, and I would recommend going there if you want to stick to the Marietta area.

If you live in Cobb County or just far from the amazing Asian food centered in the Buford Hwy/Duluth area, then this place may be a great alternative for you. The restaurant is located in a sketchy looking strip mall but the food here is legit and authentic. There's a decent amount of parking in front. The size of the restaurant itself is small and the decor isn't nice. It has more of a hole in the wall, homely feel. Service: Pretty typical for a Korean restaurant in that they are nice but mostly leave you alone to dine in peace. However, for that reason, refills on water/barley tea/banchan isn't very prompt. They do have call buttons at each table but not sure if they just don't work or if they were ignoring our calls haha. Food I liked: +Banchan - plenty is provided and they are all delicious! i do wish that there were more less spicy options though. +Seafood pancake - pretty good +Dduk gook (egg drop soup with rice cakes and beef) - very good +Soondubu Jjigae (tofu soup) - this was okay +Japchae (stir fried noodles in sesame oil with vegetables) - very good +Galbi (marinated beef short ribs) - very good The food is great and the prices are competitive and honestly fine for being the only good Korean restaurant in that area. I'd definitely come back.

I work less than a mile away. Almost didn't eat here but saw the reviews and glad I did. Excellent for a healthy lunch! The portion is large, too. I really enjoyed the lunch special with the egg. why not 5 stars? Awkward when you walk in. No host stand, and the lady usually yells how many across the restaurant. No unsweetened tea. Did not offer to explain the menu as a first timer. The descriptions are done well though so I felt like I knew what I was getting. However, I wouldn't bring a picky or hesitant friend here. I do recommend though!

Wonderful flavors! We had spicy cold squid and Bulgogi Beef. Wonderful Korean and you do not have to drive to Buford Hwy. strip Mall is Yuk. Squeezes btw a defensive driving school and a Disaster Survival Store! But worth it.

Heading north on HWY 41 just before the HWY 5 turn off is a hidden gem with some of the best Korean food this side of town. Il Mee is in a non descript strip mall beside a "preppers" store, picked up some MRE's there but that is another review.... A small dining room with regular tables and 4 sit on the pillows Korean BBQ low tables done in light pine wood. The service is 2 ladies and one is fluent in English and the other gets by, but heck they are Korean and most of the clients are Korean. The service is good but do not expect attentive service, they have a button on the wall at each table to ring for your server if you need anything between the server visits. Second trip for lunch and my friend and I both had Bibimbap for the entree with Haemul Pajeon ( Korean Seafood Pancake) as the appetizer. Bibimbap or bi bim bop is a signature Korean dish. The word literally means "mixed rice".White Rice with red chili paste, chopped lettuce, spinach, soybean sprouts, beef (or chicken , tofu), with a sunny side up egg on top. Served with julienned cucumber, zucchini julienned carrot, daikon radish, mushrooms, doraji (bellflower root), and kimchee is side ramekins. Also a dish of red chili / chili flakes with vinegar and a touch of soy to add heat as you wish. Ours both times was excellent. Haemul pajeon is a seafood and spring onion pancake that is big enuff to share as an appetizer. This is more crepe like batter and is cooked like a fritatta so one side is still just set. But that is the way I have always had it. It was very good with some shrimp and squid as the seafood. This was the off the lunch menu and there are many other traditional dishes that they have to fill you Korean needs. Come on down and try it the ladies will help with the selection, step outside your box!

Delicious and authentic! Bibimbap was awesome. Staff was very attentive and friendly. Outside appearance is non-descript but food is outstanding.

The employees are nice and the food is good. Service with a smile! My favorite is the goat dish. I cant remember what its called. Its sort of a stew served with rice. :)

The food was ok. It was close to what I expected. The bi Bim bap was good...I wish the egg was cooked a bit more and with that I probably should have ordered it in the pot instead of the bowl. For an appetizer I had korean egg rolls which were good. It's a small and quaint restaurant with a limited menu. I would definitely recommend to those who are seeking to try something new.

I used to come here all the time when I was a little kid. I have to give 5 stars b/c of the awesome times I've had here with my family. I have probably tried every dish, my favorite is kimchi jigae. NOM. My review should be longer, but.. this place has been around forever. I could probably write a 10 page essay on everything I've tried. My family used to come here probably bi weekly or monthly? We literally had bday dinners/celebration dinners here ALL the time when I was younger. Whenever I drive by this restaurant, it gives me a good feel. Happy to eat here whenever I can. Right now, I live in the city, so it's hard for me to stop by - but believe it or not, if I lived in Marietta again/lived near Marietta, I'd definitely be a regular. I'll write this: it's worth coming here if you really don't want to go to Duluth/Buford. Or even if you live in Marietta/KSaw/Woodstock. Definitely a good place to go if you're in need of a Korean fix. I also like their banchan as well. The people here are really nice. OH and parking, it's decent - not amazing but it'll do.

Ilmee is still just as delicious as it was a few years ago. It is the best Korean restaurant in the area, hands down. The prices are reasonable and the banchan, Korean side dishes, will keep on coming!! If you are feeling a little risky, try the goat meat stew. The two women who work here are very nice and will try to be accommodating during your dining experience. If you have a craving for simple, authentic Korean food, Ilmee restaurant is for you!!

My brother took me there for my welcome-back dinner after returning back home to the A from Asia. We had regular GAl-bi, spicy chicken, spicy octopus, seafood pancake, and spicy pork (bul-go-gee). Every dish was so perfectly seasoned and cooked. Even though I was in Asia for 3 months eating the authentic dishes over there on a daily basis, I still liked what was served at Il-mee. I have to give the staff 5 stars for the service that we got that night. They were so friendly.

The bibimbap was delicious! Pickled veggie assortment comes with the meal, you don't have to request. Prices really well- don't let he strip center fool you! Delicious and great service! The language barrier that other reviewers mentioned didn't exist. Great service. Great food. Great price. A gem.

Best Korean food this side of Bufford Hyw. When my Korean wife wants to go out for Korean, this is the only place in East Cobb we consider. The staff is great, the banchan is always fresh and varied. I'm a sucker for their Cucumber Kimchi. All your favorite Korean fare is here and very well prepared. I usually get their Ojingeo-bokkeum. My wife loves their bulgogi and our daughter loves their Seolleongtang. We've had pretty much everything on their menu and liked all of it. If you're in East Cobb and get the hankerin for some good Korean- give em a try. BTW- if you're not familiar with Korean Restaurants: The waitress isn't ignoring you- they just don't come by to check on you unless you ring the doorbell on your table ;)

In our continued effort to find the best Korean food outside Duluth and closer to Cherokee county, we tried Ilmee yesterday after lunch. We were doubtful right off the bat when we noticed that there were no Korean guests dining in the restaurant. Perhaps the incredibly annoying and loud woman next to us made me like this place less, but I'm pretty sure the 3 stars would remain even sans annoying table neighbor. The customer service left a lot to be desired. The waitress who came to our table most often always looked incredibly annoyed to have to wait on us, never looked at us (I understand a cultural lack of eye contact, but I mean no acknowledgement that we existed other than the filled orders). I've said it elsewhere and I'll say it again: if I'm giving you money for a service, you should at least pretend to care about what you are doing. My wife was further annoyed that they kept referring to me with the Korean title for old man, but in their defense, I do have a lot of grey hair. The food was not bad. I had the kalbi, which was good but not worth the $20 price tag. My wife had the bibimbap, which was good, but they added the spicy sauce on their own and made it spicier than my wife prefers. That was the first time I saw bibimbap brought to the table without a bottle of sauce to be added to taste. Thankfully, my meal came with white rice, which we added to the bibimbap to make it a bit more mild. The panchan were all good, and may be the saving grace for three stars. Tofu Village had better food and service, so I'm not sure we will be going back to Ilmee.

I'm not a huge fan of Korean food but I love this place. It's tucked away in an assuming strip mall but the food and service are wonderful. Since I'm not an adventurous eater, I typically stick to the bul-gyo-gi. The beef well-seasoned and tender. While not a weekly visit, I do try to come here every month or so for lunch.

I moved to marietta over a year ago and of course the first thing I did was look for a korean restaurant and was so happy to find Ilmee so close by. Since then I have frequented Ilmee many times, particularly for carryout. Atmosphere: Ilmee is located in a strip of buildings right on Cobb pkwy with a really small parking lot. It looks kinda sketchy from the outside but the lot is never full and I've never felt unsafe parking there. The inside looks like someone took their living room and turned it into a restaurant. It's not terrible but I definitely enjoy carrying out the food and eating at home more than eating there (but that might also be because I am a homebody lol!). Food: I don't know if being Korean and having been raised on my Korean grandmother's cooking and visiting Korea over a dozen times make me "qualified" to judge how authentic it is (since it seems like a big deal to other reviewers) but I'm pretty happy with the food there. I've tried the following: kimchijjigae (kimchi stew), galbi gui (marinated short rib), yukgaejang (spicy shredded beef soup), bulgogi (marinated beef), and soondae (korean blood sausage). I actually really enjoy their kimchijjigae and bulgogi and always stay true to those two dishes although I did have one bad experience once but I attribute that to human error. Yukgaejang is okay but definitely nowhere close to the best I had and I'd definitely stay away from the soondae if you are a soondae lover, unless you're desperate (which I understand completely). My boyfriend typically gets the galbi guy and like the yukgaejang, definitely not the best he's had but also not the worst. The side dishes at Ilmee are really great. First of all, they give you side dishes (banchans) with your carry out order, which I expect but don't get at all korean restaurants. Second, they have a lot of true Korean side dishes and it varies. Their kimchi is okay but I love when they make seasoned roots/vegetables (muchims). I've never had dessert or appetizer there and probably never will because the entrees and banchans fill me up. Service: It seems like they are very pleasant to their customers. When I dine there, I feel like I get the typical Korean service treatment where they kind of leave you alone to eat unless you ask for help. I am very much used to this and don't really require servers to check up on me often. If I ask for help, they help so I am happy with that. Prices: Prices are decent. They aren't too inflated especially for the portion size. I'm hesitant to say the galbi gui is worth the price but the stews and bulgogi is worth it. Also at around $7.50 a lunch special is a steal (and you still get banchan!). Overall: I'm giving Ilmee 4 stars because although it's nowhere close to the best korean food I've had, it has pleasantly surprised me. It's in the middle of nowhere and you wouldn't expect much from how it presents itself but I think the food is pretty reliable and satisfies me.

Well, I was there on 7/13 and again today. I can't change my views as of this writing. Something tells me that the restaurant was sold to another entity... the prices have gone up by at least a dollar and the portion sizes have been cut almost in half. Food is good but definitely not as good as it used to be. Wait staff not nearly as friendly... very abrupt and business-like. Place is not crawling with customers as it once was... reminds me of what happened to Umezono... sensational to mediocre +. Very disappointing turn of events as this was the only place that was truly Korean on this side of town.

I just moved to the US. I missed my country food so much and then I found this little restaurant. It looks pretty old from the out side. But hey! We are here to have some decent Korean food. As soon as I sampled their side dishes, I thought about my mom's food. I will rate more than 5 stars if I can. It is a bit far from the city but this place is the one you need to check out. Price is even reasonable as well.

Old fashion type of restaurant, but the food is WONDERFUL and prepared with a lot of love and care by these ajummia's. They are really warm and the prices are very fair!

We live in Vinings so a trip to Duluth for dinner at one of the many Korean places there is just that - a trip - and often time with uncertain results. IlMee on the other hand, a comfortable 15 minute drive away, is that reliable old friend that delivers a great meal at a reasonable price. Over the 6 or 7 years we have been going there, nothing has changed in our enjoyment of the food, which is a rarity these days. Our favorites: the flounder which is consistently outstanding;the fried squid suitably spicy; and the Kal bi juicy, tender and delicious. The stews are also excellent and the panchan never disappoints. For honest-to-God Korean food, IlMee can't be beat.

  • John S.

Korean restaurant tucked away on Cobb Parkway near the edge of Marietta. I ordered the flounder dish and I ate it all and it tasted good. Noodles with skate was also good. The side dishes were good, but not a lot of variety - ie. only vegetables no meat. A true Korean restaurant - however, there are no BBQ grills in the tables. Service was ok - ladies actually running around. They served the side dishes at the same time as the main course - we were hoping for these to be served prior.

I was actually shocked when I found out korean bbq restaurants exist on this side of town. the majority are found either in duluth, suwannee, or doraville. but apparent "ilmee" is one of the only 2 in cobb county. I don't think I would have found this place if it weren't for one particular situation. I was meeting a longtime friend and we wanted a place that was the middle of where we both lived. we were a little reluctant to try this place out for several reasons. 1 - the location of "ilmee" was in a dead shopping center 2 - the restaurant was literally right in front of the highway 3 - there were piles of wood, cement blocks, and other construction messes all over the front of the parking lot; it just looked like someone workers got lazy and quit 4 - not many cars were in the front lot of "ilmee". also, when entered, there were only 2 tables 5 - menu items were higher than other korean restaurants along duluth, suwannee, and doraville when we first entered, we were greeted nicely (yay) and brought to our table. we noticed that the restaurant looked a little like "thai of norcross" and "little thai cuisine" with the faux roofs and string of lights hanging around. every piece of furniture remained true to the korean style, which was the typical light wood furnishings. there are no AYCE (all you can eat) or cook-it-yourself optionsl here. everything you order will be prepped and cooked by the kitchen and brought out to you. like I mentioned before, the prices here a bit more expensive than their competitors, but the portions looked like it was a tad more (excluding soups). we both both decided to share 2 dishes, so we opted for the bulgogi (marinated beef) and soondubu (korean soft tofu soup). both items were quite tasty and the soup was not too fishy. one thing you must know about this place is, their "mild" is not spicy at all; unlike other korean places. the banchan that came with our meals were decent. it's pretty hard to mess up banchan for me though. it just has to taste fresh and tasty. since I don't remember much about their banchan, that just comes to show you that they were nothing special. service was decent. although, they didn't check on us..they were very patient and kind when it came to refilling our banchan. water refills were a bit slow though.

Compared to the bevy of good Korean restaurants on Buford Highway and in Duluth, Ilmee pales in comparison. In Marietta, however, Ilmee does just fine. Truly a hole-in-the-wall restaurant, Ilmee is located inside a strip mall on a rather desolate stretch of Cobb Parkway (Highway 41) between Allgood Rd. and Canton Rd. Inside, the restaurant looks old and rather ordinary. It's clean, though. Speaking of which, Ilmee scored a perfect 100 on their latest restaurant inspection. Along with small wooden tables for 4, the space also features traditional Korean-style tables where you sit on the floor. Unfortunately, no cook-it-yourself Korean BBQ stations like neighboring Tofu Village, but that's quite alright by me since I prefer to eat my food rather than cook it. Ilmee has a decent menu with competitive prices. The menu has over 40 selections including Korean BBQ, rice bowls, seafood, soups, stews, and noodles. Typical single entree prices range from $8.95 for an order of bibimbap (Korean mixed rice) to $15.95 for galbi gui (marinated beef short ribs). The menu does throw me off sometimes because of the way some of the Korean dish names are spelled. For example, the aforementioned galbi gui is spelled "gahl-be-goo-ee." Strange. I had to double-check the English descriptions just to make sure I was understanding the names correctly. The restaurant has some amazing lunch specials which are an excellent value. Lunch specials are valid Monday through Friday from 11am to 2pm. Each lunch special is only $7.50 and include the following dishes: 1. Bulgogi - marinated BBQ beef with rice 2. Dwaeji Bulgogi - marinated BBQ pork with rice 3. Ojinguh Bokkeum - spicy stir-fried squid 4. Bibimbap - rice with beef, assorted vegetables, egg, and sauce 5. Japchae - sweet potato noodles 6. Seolleongtang - beef bone soup with rice 7. Yukgaejang - spicy soup with beef, vegetables, and sweet potato noodles 8. Kimchi Jjigae - kimchi stew with rice Lunch specials also come with banchan (Korean side dishes), usually 6-8 selections. Some banchan I've encountered at lunch here include spicy pickled chopped and shredded daikon (radish), cucumber, bean sprouts, potatoes, tofu, and, of course, kimchi. I love kimchi and think the kimchi here isn't bad. Not as spicy or as strong as I normally like, but still fresh, crisp, and tasty. The other banchan are generally mediocre at best, but at the lunch special price, I'm not complaining. A couple lunch specials I recommend include #2 Dwaeji Bulgogi and #4 Bibimbap. The pork in the Dwaeji Bulgogi is marinated thoroughly and the meat is tender and has great flavor. The lunch portion size is also surprisingly generous. My only minor complaint is the cuts of pork are rather fatty. The pork is served over a leaf of Romaine lettuce and is sprinkled with sesame seeds. As is traditional, the Bibimbap is served in a large metal bowl and the ingredients are placed in the bowl separately, which makes for appealing presentation. To expand on the description above, the dish contains a fried egg, chopped beef, shredded lettuce, bean sprouts, cucumber, carrots, greens, and white radish over a bed of rice. You're supposed to mix (well) the ingredients yourself. The chili pepper paste (gochujang) brings everything together and really gives the dish its flavor. Service is very good. If you need anything, you can press the button at your table and a server comes right away. These table-side buttons are standard in Korean restaurants. Something they do a little different here is give you sticks of gum (in lieu of mints) with the check. In general, a good, no-frills, classic Korean meal can be found here at Ilmee. For Cobb County, it's a solid Korean joint (not that there are many to begin with). It's certainly not fancy, though. If you want more exotic Korean cuisine in a newer or trendier atmosphere, head to Duluth.

Ordered the egg rolls. They were crispy fried almost like crab wontons but lacked the filling. Good but could have been great if filled with more flavor. Really liked the sauce that came with it. The most Korean flavor I had. Had the beef lunch #2. Not gonna try to pronounce it. It was good but again, if they used any other ingredients besides sesame, it could have been great. Overall I would come again but I wouldn't skip Buford hwy for it.

Good: only Korean restaurant that's good that's not in the Doraville or Gwinnett area! Good selections. Bulgogi is good, but Galbi is way better! Bad: sometimes service can be lacking, but that's more of a cultural thing. Conclusion: definitely a repeater!

This place was very good. Naturally, I went to the go-to Korean dish, beef bulgogi. It did not disappoint! Very delicious! I also had a Korean golden lager beer, OB. I really enjoyed that with my meal.

This is one of the very few Korean places on this side of the city. We stopped by on a late friday night ( i think around 21:30) and the place was kinda full, just a few empty tables. It is a true Korean restaurant but con is that there are no BBQ grills on the tables. I ordered the Bulgogi (which was delivered in about 10 minutes or less) and i was not disappointed with my choice. Very good meat and good use of spices. The side dishes were great and we had like 3 or 4 refills on them! I am happy i found this place within driving distance.

We had the bulgogi and bibimbap. Both were delicious and we enjoyed the little pickle plates too. I've been here three times for lunch and the servers are always very busy but cheerful. As mentioned below, there's a doorbell on the wall by the tables. Use that to call the servers. Otherwise they will leave you alone.

Food is ok, service is terrible. Seems the restaurant only has 1 server and 1 cook. She kept apologizing, saying sorry everyone comes in at the same time and there's nothing they could have done about that. It's 6:30pm on Sunday evening, what you could do about it is hire more staff because everyone eats dinner at this time, no? Terrible.

Best Bibimbap right here folks! Forget Bufford Hwy. went there yesterday :o/ only made me miss Ilmee more. I have only enjoyed this food at a few places & I really think price, portion size, flavor, decor, are all the best at Ilmee. The service is very good, very friendly faces & gosh the food was amazing. The seafood pancake is so good you will want more...I will definitely go back & tell everyone I know. And for the folks that didn't see any Korean guests, your wrong, every time we go there are Korean guests enjoying so many different dishes. I would say any of the Food Network folks would love it too. Ya Cobb County has got it all and as far as good Korean, this is it!!! Try it you won't be sorry. A+++++

I was stoke to find Ilmee because I wanted to eat Korean food during lunch at work. Although I have to take an extended lunch, I was down for it. From the outside, Ilmee looked like it was in a weird location on the left side of a shopping area. Once you head inside, it's decorated really nicely, made me feel like I was in Korea. On the right hand side, there were places to sit down on pillows. Maybe that's for the dinner crew cause I just sat at a table. I saw the health inspection score and they got a 100% I couldn't wait to try the food. My co-worker got the bbq pork w/ rice while I got the tofu soup with vegetables. I love the fact that Korean restaurants have banchan, where they give you little side dishes with a small bowl of rice. Every Korean restaurant have different types of banchan but I do like at least something there. I asked my tofu soup to be very spicy. And yes, it was. I loved it. Most of the time, I ask for spicy and it's not spicy enough for my liking but I've never had a fail moment at Korean restaurants. I wasn't able to finish all my food but was so stuff already. Overall, loved the food and service. I will definitely go back.

Okay, to all the people who posted before me. You people must have no taste buds at all or you have not had true Korean food. This food is the worst Korean food that I have had in my life. I was born and raised in Atlanta and by far the worst tasting food I have had in GA. The best tasting thing was the Coca-Cola. Bulgogi? Dahk bokem? Dumplings? Absolutely disgusting. I wouldn't eat here again even if it was free.

I am a Korean and picky eater. I love good food; therefore, if I eat sub-standard food, I tend to get upset. I just wanted to make that clear before you read any further. I was driving I-75 south from Ohio and it was approaching dinner time. I knew that I needed to go Buford area for good Korean restaurant, but I decided to find something near I-75 because driving to Buford area will add more than 1 hour to the trip. So even after reading few negative reviews, I decided to eat at IlMee restaurant. I ordered "U-Gu-Ji Gook" and my wife ordered "Soon-Du-Bu Ji Gye". The food taste was one of the worst. I would put Il-Mee my top5 worst Korean restaurant list. Now if you are a foreigner or easily satisfied eater, then this does not apply to you. However if you have a discriminating taste, this is not the place. Go to Buford, doraville or whatever previous reviews spelled out. (Sorry I live in Ohio) I have to say restaurant is much nicer inside than outside or the area. When we visited the restaurant, most customers were Americans. Of course they would not necessarily know what is considered good Korean food. Avoid this place at all cost unless you are starving to death and can not drive to Buford area.

I seem to get better service for takeout than staying there and eating. Their stirfried squid is always good. The kalbi is not as good since they don't grill it. You can tell they stick it in a regular oven. Their banchan doesn't change very much they just add one different one per day. Overall their food is very good!!

Oh yes oh yes This place specializes in a very obscure Korean dish of like black goat stew? I don't really know the name of it (ask your waiter). I only know about it because my parents fiend for it and I seem to have inherited their taste buds. It's delicious and out of this world, a rich, hearty, gamey stew. You'll definitely remember the flavor. Every Korean knows about this place around the Atlanta perimeter. It is pricier than your average crap meal at Mcdonalds, but it's worth it and feeds multiple people.

Excellent food with little wait, but horrible service, with poor attitudes and unfriendly. I would give the place a solid 4 stars if they were half as friendly as Tofu Village, which would be my recommendation between these two. It's a shame, but they are much friendlier with their Korean customers... disappointing. I've had to get up and refill my own drink several times. The only reason I go there at all versus the aforementioned Tofu Village is that TV isn't open on Mondays.

Really good Korean food in a very modest setting. Great banchan! Eight little side dishes of Korean tastiness. Bulgogi Baek Ban is a heaping mound of sliced bbq beef served on a sizzling iron plate. Prices are reasonable, service efficient and very casual. Enjoy!

I love Illme! Great authentic korean food. The yakimondu, bulgigi(pork & beef), chopchae & bibimbap is all really good. This place is a hole in the wall, so it's not easy to find but the whole staff is friendly and very accommodating. I have been going here for 10 years & it never disappoints!

Stopped by on the way back from Woodstock, GA since it was on the way and I was starving! It's such a small restaurant and very easy to miss.. especially in the dark. We walked in, and were greeted.. in English, which somewhat threw me off since I'm use to being greeted in Korean in a Korean restaurant, but that's a positive. I was really impressed with the lady's proficiency in English. She was really sweet to us, and made sure we were taken care of throughout the night. She was definitely very helpful to everyone else there as well. Constantly asking if we wanted more rice, or needed anything else. I ordered both the bibimbop and yukgaejang which was delicious, but I feel as if the bibimbop would of tasted a little bit better if it had a hint of sesame oil. Being Korean and all, I grew up on bibimbap, and it's my regular favorite dish to eat whenever I'm home at my grandparents, so it was a bit disappointing to know it lacked the flavors that are almost a necessity. The yukgaejang was delicious, however. My boyfriend just ate what I ordered because I couldn't choose just one, so instead, he gave up what he wanted, and ate what I ordered :] Overall, cool spot, and maybe worth trying out again if I'm in the area.

I definitely dig this place. Serene and small but never crowded - at all. waitresses are pretty good and never neglect you. sometimes there is this particular waiter who is very good at English (everyone's native language is korean) and is super happy and nice. food's pretty darn good. i'm korean, so i'm used to this authentic korean taste. it's not a place to go if you're trying korean food for the first time (try a korean bbq restaurant) but it's an AWESOME place to go if you love korean food. you'll like it for sure.

I love being sandwiched between two great Korean restaurants, this being one of them; the other being Tofu Village. Janet B. is right, this place is definitely a hole-in-the-wall restaurant, tucked away under the bridge and next to an Army store. I'd say you're quite privileged to know about the place. ;) I was craving Korean so I pulled a good sized group of my coworkers (there were eight of us) to go. Some had never been before, but were open to trying new things. We all ordered different items off the lunch menu where everything is $7.95. Let me just say, not a single plate had food left on it after we chowed down in complete silence. I think that speaks for itself. The wait staff were a couple of older Korean ladies who spoke enough English to get by. One of them gave us a large, plastic bottle filled with water, in case we wanted refills. They stopped by often to ask if everything was good, to check if we were running low on any of our banchan, or if we wanted any more rice. Such sweet ladies. :)

Excellent food and service. I've eaten here 3 times and it's always been great. Don't know enough about Korean food to give much of a review, I will eat here again and I'm pretty picky about who gets my repeat business.

Great banchan, yummy food, and funny waitresses. Korean food is one of my comfort foods, it reminds me of friends that I had when I was growing up. I was glad to discover Il Mee when one of my cravings struck, and I was not disappointed. There is a lot of construction going on in the parking lot, but the ambience in the restaurant is nice and you forget about the industrialization outside.

Servers are racist and completly rude. Food was okay, but why go to a place that hates you just because your white. I would stay away from this place, there are far more better places out there.

Forget driving out to Duluth for good Korean food! Make the trek out to Marietta instead! This restaurant is known in the Korean community for its goat stew, a terrific and herbaceous bubbling pot made to feed a family and then some. My favorite dish is the kimchi bokum, and it is, by far, the best you can get anywhere. Perfectly flavored bits of kimchi stir fried with pork served with cold slices of kimchi served with cold slices of tofu--ideal for soothing the fire of the hot kimchi! Il mee is the best you can get in Marietta (by far...I mean, there's no contest) but I dare to say the best home style Korean in the metro area.

This place has been here for probably over 15 years. My parents forced me to come here to eat when I was little. And I hated it. I ate Korean food 24/7 at my home, and I didn't want to waste going out to eat to eat Korean food again. If yelp existed at that time, I would've given this place 1 star. But I'm not 15 years old anymore. Since I don't eat Korean food 24/7 I do have a craving for it once in a while, and Ilmee is a good Korean restaurant for that. One thing I like about Ilmee is that it's traditional Korean food. It's not crappy fusion Korean, and they don't put anything weird (weird for Korean recipes) in their food. It's pretty much my equivalent of Korean comfort food. Their dengjang cchigae is very tasty. They also have great banchans. The portions are decent sized, but I think their price has gone up a bit since I last saw them. Their menu items aren't very fancy. If you're Korean you might be actually disappointed with the choices since you can make most of it yourself. But once you taste it, you won't be disappointed anymore. It's your good old, traditional Korean food. They don't have anything too exotic or trendy.

Came here with my family because we sometimes have a craving for something different. The outside of the restaurant was not inviting at all, however, inside is very nicely decorated. The food was really tasty. I would give them 4 stars except for the fact that we were seated at a table that was right next to the drink station. We asked to move to another table and were told you had to have a reservation. I was thinking in my head that people weren't lined up at the door to eat. Surely, you wouldn't need to make a reservation to come here. In fact, there was only one other table occupied. Later in the evening, other people came to dine without reservations and they were seated at the table we asked for. We didn't make a scene, but we did speak to the waitress about her clear discrimination. I'm on the fence about coming back.

I have been a long time user of Yelp, but have not been motivated enough to establish my own account. I blame laziness and wish to thank all of the members for their helpful feedback regarding all of the delicious restaurants I have ever dined. With that being said, my experience at this restaurant has motivated me to establish an account and provide a review regarding this restaurant. I realize that there are off days for people and that people in the servicing world have it tough. However, this doesn't mean you show attitude to a customer when they are only requesting a condiment (eg. Vinegar) for their cold noodles that should've been offered anyways. There were a total of 4 tables occupied while I was dining there and 3 waitresses to serve. They seemed overwhelmed and impatient when you requested for items (eg. utensils, napkins, etc.). We ordered bulgogi, yuk gae jang, mul naeng myun, and hae mul pa jun. The bulgogi was cold, the mul naeng myun was warm (which is ironic), the yuk gae jang had barely any shredded beef, and the hae mul pa jun was oily. With so many other establishments in the Atlanta area, I seriously doubt I would go back to try it again. I do not recommend this restaurant unless you're just a glutton for punishment and ready for a mood changer. Note: This review is from my second visit to this restaurant. I try not to judge too harshly the first time and try to give the benefit of the doubt. Second time was not the charm for Il Mee or me.

We finally had a chance to try ilmee after a recommendation from a co-worker. We hated we waited so long to try it. It was really, really great food. It was warm, comforting and very traditional. The banchan was amazing and I started to want a table full of just that to eat. Like others have noted, the location is odd and without an actual recommendation from someone I knew, we probably would've never tried this place. Also, we rarely make it to Duluth or Buford Hgwy since we live on this side of town so this is perfect being so close to us. We will surely add this to our rotation of restaurants. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the waitresses weren't overly friendly or attentive. There were 2 large groups in there when we went, 2 tables of 4 and us, a table of 2 and the larger groups definitely got all of the attention and service. I'm used to banchan being brought out immediately if a bowl is finished, but one of the tables if 4 sitting next to us had to actually call the waitress over to bring them some more. There were only 2 older women working the night we went so I guess they were doing the best they could with the larger groups, but even when we did get service- it wasn't really friendly. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone, despite the location and service. The food is good, inexpensive, and it is clean on the inside with a good health rating, which is better than most popular upscale restaurant chains here.

I am half Korean and when I have a craving for Kimchi Chigae, this is my spot. The flavor is just right--spicy, tangy, & savory! My hubby likes the Kalbi. if you can't make it to Buford Hwy, this is a great place to fix your Korean craving.

  • Janet B.

Wow, talk about a hole-in-the-wall restaurant! If you're raving about their bibimbop or buchimgae, well, good for you, but you are missing out on what's very, very special about this restaurant. Koreans in the know go here for one item and one item only: the GOAT STEW. Aka yum so tang. They serve the spicy, tender goat meat in a bubbling pot with lots of veggies. It's a little under $30 for 2 people. The special house sauce is perfection. The banchan, or side dishes, are very delicious and generous as well. I want to say this place is pretty authentic in the grandma's cooking sense. I've had their goat stew for many, many years, but I hadn't eaten in the actual restaurant until the past Friday. My parents would just get the stew to-go when they are around the area. You know this place is a gem when you see where it's located. It's not really close to anything, much less next to other Korean places. In fact, it's located on Cobb Parkway next to a DUI classroom and a pawn shop (or something similarly sketchy of a business). And it's survived many, many years there, and I hope it will for another good while!

Having been back here several times, I can honestly say that I do like this place better than I did after my first visit. Probably good reason not to write reviews after one trip. My favorite Korean dish is the Bibimbap cooked in the stone pot. They make it here as well as anywhere else I've had it. I didn't try it on our first visit, so I probably didn't order the right things to give it a fair review (I always want to try this at all Korean places -- it's the most controlled way to compare the different restaurants). In the end, we have been back here many times and it has become a go-to place for us when we need to get our Korean food fix.

So, I was definitely getting some kbbq withdrawals since I've moved here from Los Angeles -where koreatown was always accessible. I decided to go with a friend to Ilmee on a late Sunday night, since it was conveniently open until 11pm. So as we drove into the lot at 9pm, we got this creepy, dark, isolated vibe from the exterior. But once we walked in, we were greeted by cordial Korean ladies, who seated us at the traditional tables, where we took off our shoes and sat on cushions on the floor. Note: if you are not flexible or comfortable with sitting with your legs crossed, don't sit at these tables. I was totally fine, but the person I was with had to change positions every 5 minutes and the circulation in his legs were constantly being cut off. He ordered the kalbi, and I got the jap chae. The panchans first arrived, which were always good, and best of all, unlimited. I like the pickled cucumbers, pickled radish, and kimchee, he liked the korean fish cake and korean pancake. Then, our main entrees came. His order of kalbi was plentiful and cut conveniently so that the meat was sliced off the bone already -something I've never seen. Usually kalbi is sliced with the bone so that you have to rip the meat of the bone with your teeth. My jap chae was very good, although I would have preferred it cold rather than warm. I like how there were lots of vegetables in it and the portion was large, so I took half home. Overall, it was a good experience. Next time, I will come here for their lunch special so that it even more worth it.

To the IDIOT lady that gave this gem one star: This place has been here for ever 20 years. The fact that I am Korean, been to Korea and tried all Korean food all over GA and various states like California, your comment was useless and irritating. This place is a definite "hole in the wall." It's 30 mins. away from Korea town and it's not conveniently located, except it's right off of hwy 75. BUT I still go with all my friends. It's totally worth the trip. It's not a "grill your own BBQ" joint or a fancy dining experience. It's GOOD traditional Korean food. One of the BEST I've had. The "daeji buhlgogi" spicy bbq pork and fried fish are to die for and not the mention all the "banchan" side dishes. If you're feeling adventurous, try the goat stew! THE BEST!! It must mean something that it's been here for this long and is still in business with such loyal customers. Don't listen to the ignorant reviewers that says otherwise. They probably don't need her business anyways. I've known the owner (the cook) and people that has worked here, and I know for a fact everything that comes out on your plate is fresh made to order with care!!! If you have the opportunity, GO. You won't be disappointed! Oh and if you have questions about the menu, just ask the servers. They will explain anything and give you great suggestions!

It's hard to describe the magic of this place. I must preface that I'm somewhat bias to Il Mee (will explain why), but that still doesn't influence why I'd give this place a 5 star rating. There may be Korean restaurants in Georgia that are better at a particular dish or specialty. I can't say that Il Mee is a speciality restaurant, but here is why Il Mee is such a standout restaurant when it comes to Korean restaurants in Metro Atlanta. 1) The quality and the freshness of all of their banchan is the best I've seen in any Korean restaurant. It really matches the quality, cleanliness and consistency of restaurants in Korea. 2) Perhaps they're not a speciality restaurant, but all items are good. Yes, every item on the restaurant at Il Mee is good. Granted, it's not a huge menu, but every item has been made with care and with their own flair. 3) There's no MSG or over seasoning at all. I have absolutely 0 guilt eating here because it's exactly as how my mother would prepare food at home. Healthy, not salty, not over seasoned...it's just right. If you're looking for punchy Korean food with overwhelming flavor, Il Mee is not the place. Real Korean food people eat day in and day out is not like that. The level of seasoning and pungency of flavor are much more like something you'd find at Il Mee. 4) I've been coming here since I was 4, and over the past 21 years, nothing in this place has changed. It's amazing, but the restaurant itself looks as clean and as fresh as it did when I was a child. The only things that have physically changed about the restaurant that I can notice is the TV in the back left and the ground seating to the right of the restaurant used to not be there. If anything, Il Mee has been successful for 20+ years because of consistent quality food...consistent everything across the board really. Everytime I pull into the parking lot, I can't help but think how this little restaurant has managed to stay in that crummy location for so long, but once you walk inside and see the diversity of the customers and the no-nonsense Korean demeanor of the waitresses, it's obvious why. I can't think of a Korean restaurant in Metro Atlanta that has been around for longer. For that matter, I can't think of a Korean business that's been around for longer. The cook/owner has always been the same, and I'm amazed every time I walk in there how the woman has kept her standards not just for the food but for the overall restaurant so high for so long. Most places in Buford highway and Korea Town go in and out of business. And whilst the Korean population in Metro Atlanta has certainly exploded and the restaurant choices have too since the founding of Il Mee over 20 years ago, it's amazing how this place still stands out above the rest. It has been a consistent go to for my family since first moving to Atlanta, and after 20 years, we love it just as much as we did on day one. I can't think of another restaurant that has been so consistent. Il Mee is a true gem, and I save such accolades for truly spectacular places. No, not every restaurant will suit everyone's tastes, but Il Mee is one of those places where even if you didn't enjoy the food, you'll come out thinking your meal was prepared with care. Here are my favorite dishes at Il Mee. 1) Goat Stew...it's probably their signature dish 2) Chicken marinade Truth be told, all of their dishes are good, but those two are my personal favorites. Their soups are also simple and delicious in a very homey Korean way. No, it' won't blow out your taste buds, but as i stated earlier, this stuff is about as authentic everyday Korean as you'll find...real home style, heathy Korean food.

I've been here a couple of times. The food is good but some times vary cause some days are good and some days are just blend in taste wise, but over all still decent. The waitresses are not always on top of things I have to press the bell sometimes for them to come over to refill my water or ask them for something... Sooo try it on your own if you dare... not trying to make it sound that bad haha.. also kinda pricy too from other korean places I've been too.. well for dinner that is.

Disappointing. I love Korean food and have had allot of it. We used to live in a town where there was a Korean BBQ on almost every corner. So once we moved from California to Georgia I was eager to find a good Korean restaurant. This wasn't what I was looking for. The menu was soooo unclear. I've been to Korean restaurants in Korean town in California where no one in the restaurant spoke English that had clear menu than this. You had to read the whole menu to figure out here the BBQ, seafood and soups were and even then the descriptions lacked big time. The food was borderline okay. The pork was pretty good but the beef had a beef jerky taste and texture. It looked like it had been cook earlier in the day and microwaved before being served. There wasn't anything special about the side dishes they brought to the table. They all pretty much tasted the same. But most of all, the service sucked. There was two waitresses and all through I saw them moving quite a bit, nothing really seemed to get done. When the waitress did make it to the table, she knocked over my husband's water on to the tray carrying our lunch. No big deal, accidents happen but it was just one thing after another like that. She came back again and before she got to our table to refill our glass, a gentleman stopped and asked her if she could answer a couple of questions about their no so clean menu. She looked at him, walked away with out saying a word, visited our table, filled our water (which we didn't ask to be filled since we were actually waiting for our check) before returning to his table to answer his question. And her answers were not deliver in a very nice manner either. While this was going on, the second waitress disappeared completely. I watched another family push the service button on their table more than a hand full of time before anyone came to take their order (about 20 mins) Looking around the room, everyone had a look of "is this even worth the wait" or "is she ever coming back." All in all, won't be going back. Probably won't even remember the place in a couple of weeks.

Illmee is 2 store fronts down from a DUI school. It's in an office park on a stretch of road with auto repair on every block. It's also a warm, authentic Krorean family feel with excellent food. The server, a gregarious woman who knew everyone that walked in, literally fed me the first bite of my flounder to show me how to attack it with chopsticks. Then she proceeded to toss my wife's salad so that the taste would just jump out, which it did. All we can recall is that the salad started with the letter "P". We were talked out of our first choices and into the two excellent meals our server knew we'd like. We live near midtown but we're going back again and we'll bring frieds. This is a diamond in the rough. Enjoy!!

This goes out to the lady that wrote the review and only gave it one star and complained about everything when you go to a korean restaurant and you only order bbq thats like going to a sushi bar and only ordering rolls. PLEASE! this place is great with great service and the food is always bang up. I have been eating hear for years and have eaten korean all over including korea and their health score has NEVER been under 99. The owner who also works in the kitchen will accomodate any special request you have. You should get know her. But then again you won't be going back. Love all the true ethenic foods and especially all the soups and stews. If you can't make to buford hwy please give place a try you won't be disappointed.

Went out with a group of friends to this place. The place is kind of hard to spot from 41 because of trees and the Canton Rd. Connector bridge. The 5 of use each got a dish and shared everything family style. Everything was delicious from the fried flounder, beef ribs, squid salad, stir-fried kim-chi, and the panchan. The staff was very nice and recommended very good dishes. The waitress was nice enough to let us know that the flounder we ordered was going to take a little bit because the cook accidently burnt the 1st one and was making another one. She wasn't good at guessing what kind of Asians we all were though (that's right even WE can't figure it out haha). She guessed my Chinese friend was Korean, my Vietnamese friend was Chinese, and thought I was Malaysian (I'm Vietnamese). All in all it's a great place for Korean food if you're OTP.

After reading the preceding reviews on Ilmee Restaurant... I had to try it for my self. I had a bit of a hard time ordering over the phone, but perhaps it's the price one pays for authenticity. Anyhoo, the beef was VERY good. The kimchee and a few varieties of banchan were also Very good. Lunch Special: $7.95 The only way it could have been better is if I was able to sit down to eat it. VERY WELL WORTH IT. I was happy with everything i ordered, I will go back to try more.

i was there a few weeks ago b/c i was in marietta for business. the place from outside is scatchy...was afraid to park my car in the parking lot. the restaurant is inside the small plaza. if u are brave enough to park the car and enter the restaurant, the inside of the restaurant is hole in the wall. it's nothing like korean restaurants in the duluth. i was greeted, sat, and ordered. i ordered yukgajang (hot spicy soup). the price is very reasonable and had many choices to choose from, but decided to get the soup since it was pretty chilly outside. the service is excellent. there were two waitresses and they were very friendly (u don't find this kind of service from any other korean restaurants anywhere). the yukgajang was ok but i expected that. although the soup was just ok the bachan (side dishes) were excellent. i will definitely go back there to try other things and if u haven't tried it b/c it's in the wrong section of the city, don't be afraid. it's good and it's worth the drive.

I was so happy to find a good Korean restaurant away from Buford Highway! I've been here 4 times, and have tried a variety of dishes. The bibim bap and dol sot bibim bap (in the stone bowl) are excellent. The yukke jang had a lot of brisket and noodles. The portions are big, and they have a variety of banchan. They also have lunch specials during the week which are great deals.

Ilmee has a very special place in my heart. When I first discovered Korean food, culture, guys (eeek!), etc. eleven years ago, this is one of the first Korean restaurants I tried. Their food and banchan is consistently great! I've noticed that a lot of other Korean restaurants have tended to scrimp on the side dishes these days. When we went back for the first time in quite a while tonight, I was giddy to find out that this is not so with Ilmee! They piled on the good stuff...same stuff that it's always been: cucumber kimchi, cabbage kimchi, gak-du-gee, another form of daikon kimchi, bean sprouts, marinated potato, mini omelet, marinated zucchini, and o-dang slices! All so yummy! Plus they'll give you more if you want it! And though I wasn't raised Korean, I feel like eating these dishes is the absolute closest I can get to eating what tastes like mom's home cooking! I swoon! Their menu has a wide range of traditional Korean favorites which is sure to please your pallet no matter what sort of Korean food you're in the mood for. I never have a problem finding something delicious to order...in fact, I have a problem choosing between like 5 different things! One of my favorite things is the Ham-ji-gae. It's like Kimchi jigae, but they put pork, spam, and hot dog slices, and it's freaking awesome! Don't knock it 'til you try it! The squid stir fry is also something I order over and over. This dish even inspired me to write a little song about how much I love squid...it's that good! The kimchi stir fry is a winner every time! Yummy kimchi mixed in with pork and onions on top of generous slices of tofu! Yes! Yes! Yes! Everybody loves burl-go-gi, so if you're a picky eater, try theirs! Or the Jap-chae! Stir fried glass noodles with meat and veggies is always delightful! Oh, and the dwen-jang-jigae ROCKS! I prefer theirs over everyone else's. So yeah, there's a lot to choose from and it's all super delicious...it warrants multiple trips. I'm sure you'll become a fan too!

Two very enthusiastic thumbs up. Great to find Korean on the west side of town (or Northwest, anyway). Very, very weird location. But once you find it, it's worth the trip. Very good food, though limited selection of appetizers. In fact, the only one is the Korean Spring rolls--tasty, kind of like fried won tons. But ultimately forgetable. Panchan are all good, and they bring you plenty of it. Love the Bee-bim bop. You need to have some knowledge of Korean food, or at least have an idea what you want to eat. Servers don't really speak or understand much English.

Good, straight-forward, affordable Korean food. This is where I head when I'm too lazy to make the drive to Buford Hwy. I usually order kimchi chigae (spicy kimchi stew with tofu) and bulgogi (marinated beef) and they are never stingy with panchan (the side dishes that come with everything). It's a pretty non-descript location, so bring directions or you'll never find it. The staff is very welcoming if you are unfamiliar with Korean food and will make polite suggestions. I'd give it a 4 if I weren't so stuck on Hae Woon Dae.

The fish soup is a peppery dance across a seafood dance floor. Pretty awesome stuff, and the small pickle and veggie side dishes are right on the mark. The location looks unremarkable from the outside, but inside there's authentic Asian goodness waiting for you. Don't hesitate to give this place a try- you will add it to your rotation if you like authentic Korean food.

If I had not been in the mood for Korean food and searched for Ilmee on Yelp, I never would have found it (and this probably goes for anyone... not just the direction impaired like myself). Regardless of location and appearance, this place serves some of the best Korean food in the Atlanta area- and I can boast a large sample size to back my claim up. It is also one of the few Korean places outside of Buford, which is nice. We shared the bibimbap (it comes in a stone bowl!) and the spicy tofu soup. Both were delicious, and very spicy. The ban chan were also really good. I will definitely be back next time I'm in Marietta.
