I'm Australian. I can tell you that all the meat pies they sell here are pretty much what it tastes like in Australia. I usually order the plain meat pie and I usually buy frozen snags (sausages) bulk here amd party pies when I have barbies at my house. They also secretly sell Dim Sims here too, which is sold in every take away shop in australia... i wouldnt even know how to explain one to you lol, just have a go and taste one.. I like them.. lol The variety of groceries is good too, I mostly buy the canned passion fruit coz i bake a lot of pavlova at home and this is the only place I can find them. Bottom line the sausage rolls and the meat pies are pretty authentic, the pavlova too...

AN AUSSIE BAKERY? NO WAY! YES WAY! When you say pie, I say okay. When we noticed this Australian Bakery, we were immediately interested in checking it out. They have a vast selection of meat and veggie pies along with various desserts. We decided to check out a couple of the meat pies, the shephard pie and the traditional meat pie. Although I assumed that these pies would have a heavy crust, I was surprised because they were actually lighter than expected and the perfect vehicle for the meat. They were a balanced bite. The problem with these pies is that they are just way too salty for me and I prefer my savory pie with a good supply of veggies. It's just not my thing. On the other hand, Mr. High blood pressure loved them -salt, meat and bread. He was in heaven! Perhaps next time, I will try a dessert option. Remember, this store also carries packaged foods and snacks so there are several options for trying something new or different. This store was seemed very popular with the locals as the staff interacted with the customers and addressed them by name. The store was pretty busy during the lunch hour but everything still flowed smoothly. Next time you're in the area, give it a try!

Amazing! A taste of home for my meat pie loving self! Being an Aussie the one thing I miss more than anything about home is a meat pie and sausage roll. I was so excited when my husband and I were finally able to make a trip up here and I enjoyed myself. There is no doubt that the pie you'll eat here will make you feel like your at your local bakers back home where you pop in for some fresh bread and the smell of the pies have you leaving with one in hand! I enjoyed myself we went back twice while we were in Atlanta and even brought myself some goodies to bring home! The best part is that they will ship their items to you!

We finally had a chance to visit the bakery today. And we were NOT disappointed. .. Let me start with all of the smiling faces that are eager to greet you as you walk in. Everyone is very welcoming and friendly. We ordered the curried lamb, the sausage roll and the chicken (large flaky dough). The curried lamb: EXCELLENT!!!! Very flavorful, nice texture. As you can see with the picture. The chicken: very good and flaky. There is ample filling. The crust is a bit over flaky but is manageable with a fork. I'm not able to tell you what I think about the sausage as I didn't get it with the to go package (Reason for four stars).

The Marietta Square is my new home away from home!!! Scoutmob brought me to this Australian Bakery Cafe for lunch yesterday. My lunch buddy and I are always looking for something different. The look of the place was extremely cute, very cultured. I didnt like that I was next in line and some gentleman from the back came out and started assisting the person behind me, with there food items. Do betta! My first experience with Sheppard's Pie was a great one. It was everything I imagined when reading the description. I also order the Dundee Turkey combo with potato salad instead of chips to go and a german chocolate brownie. Everything was good except the potato salad. I'm not a fan of the potato salad at all. I keep getting mixed reaction on whether the potatoes are suppose to be undercooked or not. I have no clue, but I almost took it back, I was expecting chunky but not crunchy.

Came here on a beautiful Saturday for lunch. The line was long and service was slow, but once we got the food it was all worth it. We loved the steak and mushroom meat pie. We liked the traditional Cornish pasty and croc hunter chicken sandwich. The quality of all of the freshly baked dough items was excellent. The atmosphere was cute too. Glad we made the trek to Marietta Square to check this place out.

In third grade the Australian bakery came to my class for an "in school field trip". They brought meat pies and delicious chocolate sponge cake. Being a libertarian, this was the only positive of public school, and almost made it worth it. When I, an 8 year old American boy tried a meat pie for the first time, it made me realize that everyone I knew was stupid for not eating these for every meal every day. It is that good. I have continued going to the Australian bakery for over a decade now, never to be disappointed. The Australian bakery is extremely authentic, the workers are helpful and nice, and most of all, the food is incredible. Anything less than 5 stars would be a hate crime.

This is definitely one of my favorite places on the Square. Its a cute little place with a great varitey of meat pie and sandwiches. They even have authentic Australian products and drinks that you can buy. The cafe has a nice feel to it, with plenty of tables inside as well as a few right outside the door. I recommend sitting outside, its in the shade and its the perfect place to people watch while you enjoy your meal. The food is great, too. They have yummy breakfast served all day, and for lunch there's a wide variety of meat pies and sandwiches to chose from, as well as a few salads. The bakery offers lots of different baked goods, all of which are very good. (I've tried most of them.) I'd definitely recommend this place. The staff is very nice, the food is great, and its an overall unique and enjoyable experience. Definitely add this one to your list of "must-see's" :)

In search of the Travel Channel Food shows. number 2. What a great little town. I almost didn't get my wife to the restaurant because she wanted to go into all the little stores along the way. But I was hungry. As I walked in, I muttered to her, "the meat pies, the meat pies, the meat pies, it's their specialty." The display is right in front of you as you walk to the counter. The guy behind the counter says, "what'll you have?" My wife says, "I'll have the Turkey Sandwich". The Turkey Sandwich???? She says it was pretty good. Sigh. I had two of the meat pies....The Aussie Meat Pie and the Ned Kelly. no fries, just a soda. These were great. The owner came by and we had an over 5 minute chat. Not just one of those "hey, how are you doing. thanks for stopping by", but a little history of the place, talked about the German football team winning the World Cup and "what the heck are the rules in Australian football. (i've watched it about 15 times and I still don't understand the rules completely. It's reminds me of a game you'd get when a whole bunch of completely drunk guys got together and decided to make up their own game. Anyway, the pies are great. I'm going to order some and have them shipped to Tampa. Heading back up to Nashville in a month. will definitely stop by.

I've been wanting to try this place for quite sometime, so for an afternoon snack I decided to drop by and get something to go. Well the shop is interesting and has lots of things to check out, but I was more interested in food. I wasn't quite sure where to place my order so I walked around to the register, other places you can order at the bakery case... They need signs on where to place an order or someone should actually greet you when you come in... Anyway I'd checked out the menu outside so I knew what I wanted... the spinach triangle or "spanikopita". I also had a few questions but the guy at the register seem put out that he had to answer them, but it was my first time there, just wasn't made to feel comfortable by this cashier. So I ordered the spinach triangle, checked to make sure it was vegetarian and waited for it to be heated. Now for anything that's served in a crust of anysort at a bakery... I expect it to be crispy... I was wrong it was soft almost mushy and I do not like mushy foods. Also the spinach was not a brillant green but a dull collard green color... I had to double check that it was spinach. And to serve it in a paper bag, it was just too soft to hold with one hand if that was the plan. I'm not impressed but I may go back to try something else, but it won't be for awhile....

The meat pie was ok - I had the traditional. It was ground beef in a thick sauce.I think I would like to try other types next time. I ordered it to go and it took forever to get it. It turns out they were heating it up. I didn't want it heated as I was taking it to go and would be eating it later. Next time, ask the customer if they want it heated up when it's a to go order. The lady at the register wasn't very nice and didn't seem happy to be there. Maybe she was having a bad day.....made my meat pie taste sad.

Awesome food. The chicken and veg pie was awesome, though could've been filled a little more. The fruit bowl was large and fresh. Great value for money. Everything is fresh and delicious. My father got the beer battered fish and chips which were delicious. They actually pour the beer and make the batter when you order. Highly recommend this place. I will definitely be going back.

Long review so hold tight! My husband is from Queensland, AU and all I hear about are these Aussie meat pies and something that the locals call a snotblock. Sounds appetizing, eh? Well, after a year, he finally got a meeting with a large company in Atlanta, GA and he was beaming with excitement. On the way to the big city of ATL, we stopped off in this quaint area of Marietta. This small place has a round-about in the center with shops and on street parking. This day in particular, each shop had an outdoor seating area, there was a farmers market and live music in the square. I felt like I was walking into Mayberry but better! As we approached this bakery, the smell wafting from the doors was one of heavy gravy, like a thanksgiving meal. My husband at this point is run/walking. The line was around the block. I was ready to eat, anything really, and suggested we go to the cafe down the street. One sharp look was all I needed to know we were staying put. About 20 minutes later, we finally got inside. The widows were decorated with everything Aussie, from a Kangaroo to the makeshift ant hills larger than me! As you look up, all seven of the states flags are hanging and to the right you can purchase Aussie goods such as the Tim Tam candy and Violet Crumble. Yes, you want both. We walk up to the counter and low and behold, another Aussie, who by the way, is from the same small town as mu husband and they already knew each other. He introduced me to Nevil, and explained how un-enthusiastic I was about the meat pie and snotblock, in US terms Vanilla Slice. Nevil took a shining to me immediately and brought out a plate full of goodies for me to try. Some meat pies, sausage rolls, vanilla slice, lambington, Pavlova and something else I cannot remember. What I DO remember is that the pastry was to die for. When it is hot outside pastry gets soggy and when it is cold ooutside it crumbles. It was perfect. Better than perfect, it was suburb. I took one bite of this meat pie and scarfed it down so fast I had hiccups. I went back for seconds. Actually, my husband made me stop at 2 b/c of desert. The sausage roll was not as good as the meat pie, but then again, I am not a sausage fan. I true Aussie meat pie... you have to go get one. Now on the this snotblock a.k.a. Vanilla Slice. It is a puff pastry with creamy hand made custard that sits atop a pile of hand whipped cream. It moves like jello, but it is the color of snot! Thus in the AU they call it a snotblock. Yeah, once you take one bit you get over that name really quickly. In fact, so quickly you share a second helping. The Pavlova was also on our agenda. A sugar crunch with texture almost like cotton candy. It melts in your mouth immediately after you take a bite. I cannot lie, I have ordered several boxes of meat pies and had them shipped up here and I go out of my way to hit Marietta every time I have to drive through GA. If you can't get there, order them. You will never want another form of meat pie in your life. Promise.

Everyone there is super friendly and happy to tell you about all the pies and other pastries. I was craving something sweet and salty so I decided to get the spinach and feta quiche and a hedgehog slice. The quiche was the perfect size for breakfast and the hedgehog was so freaking good. The hedgehog is hazelnut coconut fudge. I definitely cant wait to go back and try one of their pies.

My brother has been talking about this place forever even had it "book marked" for well, awhile & out of curiosity finally got my ass over to a different side of town for a change with Australian Bakery in mind. This place has not disappointed me and for those of you who have not tried it you may want too. Tons of options breakfast, lunch, maybe something for dinner later, savory or not try them and for those of you who are thinkin eh whatever some of these are like mini pot pies so try at least one. Lamb Curry - Yes you can actually taste the lamb it is cut into small bites and mixed with the standard carrots, potatoes and peas with a curry sauce while not spicy is flavorful. *Have had the chicken Curry too get it.* Shepard's Pie - Beef again in small bites has just enough beefy sauce in it but does not overwhelm the pastry it is covered with a thin layer of whipped potatoes and can be topped with or without cheese at no extra cost. . *Beef & onion reminds me of french onion soup without the spoon.* Fish n chips - The fish was good it was mild and tasty as was the breading really enjoyed eating this and wish I had gotten two pieces instead of one it didn't need anything as far as sauce and was told that it was "Orange Roughy," The fries let them know you want them cooked a bit more otherwise they taste like unsalted soft baked potatoes. If you are no sure what to order ask the staff find out their favorites there is a gal who works there that has been honest with me on likes and dislikes of both her and the patrons who come here. I really appreciate the honesty and will look forward to where she will direct my taste buds next. This would be a nice substitution for quiche on the weekends or maybe finger food come game day in the fall. *New bites will be added to this list in the future.

There was definitely some pros and cons about this place. Pros: The ambience was pretty neat, something a little different than your average bakery. Cons: Since this was my second time there, I wasn't sure what to get. The lady at the cash register didn't have a smile on her face, and didn't seem willing to explain any of the dishes. I then got french toast, because I feel like you can't cook that wrong. Well I was mistaken.. It was super dough, not cooked all the way. I have also had a meat pie there that wasn't cooked all the way. I took a bit of that and ended up throwing it away. When I ordered my meal today, I asked for orange juice. I had no idea that it was a self serve, and that I need to get my own orange juice, so I had to return and tell them that I never got my OJ, she then pointed to the fridge and said it was in there. I will never go back to this place because of the awful service, and uncooked food. Service is my number one thing, if the company doesn't have it, then I will NOT return. Cheer up a bit Australian Bakery. Life could be worse!

If you're into handmade Hot Pockets, that aren't actually hot then this is your place. Definitely the best Australian meat pie place on the square. I feel like I've given up a lunch that I'll never get back.

The first time that I stopped at The Australian Bakery Cafe was for lunchtime this past December upon returning home after a visit out of state. Wanted something quick, different, and tasty for breakfast to treat a friend who had picked me up from the airport. We tried this place and I'll admit was a little skeptical after hearing mixed reviews. We both got meat pies; I tried the curried lamb, and she had the curried chicken. I wasn't wowed over but it wasn't bad either. Could've been a little more tender, but the spices in mine were a delicate and subtle balance to the lamb's richness. I asked the cashier what she recommended and being advised to go for The Hedgehog, which was a chewy brownie square with light coconut flakes within. Flavourful without being too rich (& be sure to check out the diverse display of baked goods on display - the treats may spur salivation before you order your meal). This past Sunday I returned and my lunch partner ordered the spinach and feta pastry, toast, a few tarts (I nabbed one that was offered, jelly, I think), and none other than this salty, yeasty, brazen, indescribable-til-you-taste-it jelly substance called Marmite. My friend explained it was a mainstay when he lived abroad in England and that you can't easily compare Marmite to other tastes, but you sure enough can compare other flavours to Marmite. I dabbed a bit on my biscuit and it was ... aight. Can't say I can see myself ever having a hankering for it unless my food was really bland and had plenty of tea to drown it in (which I did; tea is self-serve and you pay by the teabag instead of cup size, with free refills). Anywho, that day I ordered the breakfast platter, which was a decent-sized combo of scrambled eggs, your choice of protein (bacon, sausage, or vegan patty; I nommed me bacon), your choice of one freshly-baked croissant or biscuit (endearingly irregularly-shaped, arriving fluffy and warm), and breakfast taters. I really dig the decor of the place, from a vintage Eurasia map, national flags that were hung, kitschy country signs even in the restroom, a whole large bookcase full of Australian-made/themed treats and gifts for sale (where we grabbed the Marmite). And to add to the ambience, a musician showed up halfway through the meal and played acoustic songs. Melodious music in the background she lent us, and was quite talented on the guitar, as well as vocally!

Immediately when you walk in you can tell this isn't an American bakery. Immediately you're transported to the land down under. If you're familiar with Australian or British candies/treats, then you'll their little stockpile of goodies in front of their counter. They sell my absolute favorite, the Crunchie Bar!!! I have an Australian friend who's always raved about meat pies, which sounded gross to me, until I tried them!!! These are pretty traditional in Australia and if you haven't tried them...YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE MISSING! Since my girlfriend and I weren't hungry yet and bought the pies to eat later, the cashier taught us how to properly heat to perfection it at home. I can't wait to go back and try other foods there.

Wow! This is usually a Petit Le Mans staple for me. I was in the neighborhood. I stopped in and it was so cozy and inviting I didn't want to leave. I love the cafe/ general store feel. I had my usual meat pie for breakfast. But there are many more authentic Australian dishes. Amazing!!!!!If you are on the square in Marietta and you are hungry, stop in! I absolutely love it!!

The J/J Burger Tour had no idea that you could get a classic burger in Australia! Well, maybe ya can't, but you can in Mariettaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!! Saw this place on tv, of all places, and just had to make a trip. I arrived on Australia Day, so it was a little packed, plus on busy days, there's not enough tables for everyone. I'm here to tell ya, it doesn't matter. Wait. Wait longer. Sit outside. It's worth it. Took a while to get to me, but no worries. Got a kangaroo burger. WOW. What a great one. Never tried it, but having eaten so many things that can hop, crawl, slither or swim, I'm always up for something new. Kangaroo meat is wonderful. It has a darker, richer flavor that beef, plus these guys cooked it dead on. Great cheese added, plus toppings including romaine lettuce. Fries were also good, but I only ate a handful because the burger was so good. Also my first time having a meat pie. I loved it. Mine was the Ned Kelly. Always try this if you go here. My friend Rob from Australia said; 'If ya go to a football match, you got a beer in one hand and a meat pie in the other.' I also got a sausage roll to go plus a Cornish Pasty. Yep, I had a lot to eat when I left, so it lasted three days. Wonderful people here. Even though it was so busy that time of day, the owner came around to everyone's table and said hi. Plus I talked to the guys in the kitchen who did my burger, and they dug chatting with me. Really great place. I must come back again despite about 75 mile drive.

What a great place to try the next time you're in the Marietta Square. I had one of the Australian pies and it was so good. Also took home a few assorted dessert and everything was very good and fresh. I will definitely try this place again the next time I'm in the square.

A solid three stars. Super nice people, quaint shop and nice vibe. Since discovering Shakespeare's while th in Sydney I immediately ordered the original meat pie, then the beef and mushroom abd as I write I'm eating the Ned Kelly. What a nice hamlet off Aussie goodness.

Waited 20 minutes for my PIE to arrive when all they have to do was dump it in the oven... the decor is old and uncomfortable. The food case looks vintagely disturbing. Service was nice but slow and seemed like they dont care. The pie was great but I just had a bad first experience with the place itself... when I clearly told them I have never been here before.

I was so happy to stumble across this place on a recent trip through Marietta town square. I had tasted the pies at an international festival in Nashville years ago and instantly recognized the kangaroo logo on the shop window. My poor man nearly jumped out of his driver's seat because I shrieked so loud when I saw it. It was Christmas Eve and we were on our way back to my English parents' house for the festivities, so we stopped in and got my parents one more present - a big bag of meat pies (we wrapped them up and everything). The staff were super friendly and helpful, and when I told them I was taking them back to Nashville, informed me of their web delivery capacity. Meat pies at the touch of a finger! Apparently the pies were delicious, and I have a vague memory from years back of them being so, apparently so delicious the parents weren't sharing!

First time here. It was ok. I ordered one of their "meat pies" because apparently that is what they are known for. I can not recall the exact pie I ordered but it had chicken and jack cheese, or so they said. The pie was served to me all alone on a plate... so presentation is clearly not a concern here. In addition the pie was a bit "doughy" and really had zero flavor. I didn't really taste the chicken or the cheese. I was unimpressed with the dusty decor but the staff was extremely nice and accommodating. I would like to try this place again, mainly to try something sweet, but not for the meat pies.

After I finished scraping the last of the sauce from my disposable container, I must say that I enjoyed my Steak and Cheese Meat Pie. I also ordered the Sausage roll, but it was a lil bland for me. Not what I was expecting. Overall, I will go back. The staff is friendly, the restaurant is clean and the coffee is tasty. Their menu also boasts sandwiches and Australian burgers that I must try along with the original meat pie and chicken pie.

So I had some pies and processed meats delivered... again. The breakfast pies are good as is the traditional and steak & cheese. The kidneys in the steak & kidney pie was a little dry. The lamb curry was bland and didn't have enough spices. The kabanas were excellent. Can't get enough of them. The bangers are really good on the grill. Get some for grilling season. I'll order more soon.

Fun place to try. The curry lamb pie was good, but kind of small. With a side salad, it was a light brunch. The breakfast pies and desserts looked really good. Will have to try some next time.

I actually forgot that I have been here before. I got the steak and onion pie with mashed potatoes and green beans, as well as hot crossed buns, (like the song) and an eclaire. It was a lot of food but it wasn't heavy. It was also definitely tasty. Overall this is a great little place to drop in and have a quick bite. I am not sure why I forgot about it before but I definitely won't forget again.

Oh my gosh I love love love this place! I absolutely will drive 45 minutes away from home for this place! Their pies are flaky, moist, and just so delicious as if pixies flies over them and spread magic on their food :) yummmmmm not only are the food delicious, but the price is right. They have pies that ranges from $3.50 to $5 and they are sooo worth it. They also have these daily baked bread for like a buck!! and they day old bread? FIFTY CENTS!! wth?? and their bread are baked on site without any preservatives! The owner is very friendly and so is everyone in their staff. When you order one of their yummy pies, they pop it in the oven for ya and allow the flavors to celebrate in your mouth! they also have some interesting products that they sell although i havent tried it yet. I also havent tried any of their desserts, but I make a point to do so. The place is small and humble. No gimmicks. There are table outside as well if you want to enjoy the hustle and bustle of the busy street around Marietta Square. Check this place out! You will not regret it.

Well, the food here is delicious. A nice change from what you get most other places. I've only ever had good experiences here until today. The short story... A simple 2 minute order turned into 15 minutes later getting the wrong to go order which I then didn't see until I was gone & it was too late to return. So, my three stars are from poor service but tasty food.

The meat pies are AMAZING. Ordered three to split with a friend: lamb curry, shepherds pie, and the aussie meat pie. all three were amazing, although it may have been meat pie overload. the coffee was YUM. and i always appreciate good coffee. hope i can stop by again soon for the other pies :)

Since moving here a year ago, we've been trying various eateries on the square and this is my new favorite! The chicken/pepperjack cheese meat pie is great...it looks big but the light and flaky crust makes it just right. I bought some breads to bring home..they are also fantastic. I should also add that all the employees we talked to were super friendly and helpful...they could rattle off the meat pie fillings by heart. It's going to be our new place to take visiting relatives for lunch.

The concept here is very interesting with a location that lends itself to a casual summer afternoon. The quality of the pastry shells is exquisite, and frankly I wish there were more baked meat pastry cafes available everywhere

I dropped by Australian Bakery Cafe yesterday for Jang C's Cobb Lunch UYE ( yelp.com/events/marietta… ) yesterday. Marietta Square has many restaurants, I need to go there more often. Australian Bakery is located on the south side of the square. This restaurant is known for their Australian meat pies. These are small, yet filling pies that are filled with meats and different ingredients depending on the type of pie you order. There are over 22 varieties to choose from. Everything is made from scratch in-house, including the crust. The pies are priced from $4.40 to $5.00 each. They also have specials written on a whiteboard by the register. Yesterday, it was a steak, cheese, and onion pie with a house salad and drink for $7.95. I tried the following: Australia's original pie - ground sirloin beef cooked in gravy Ned Kelly pie - sirloin steak and gravy with egg, bacon, and cheddar Australian sausage roll - ground beef with special seasoning While we were trying to decide what to order, the owner told us which pies had just come out from the oven. The kitchen is open so you can take a peek behind the counter and see the employees working with all the meat pies and pastries stacked up. The food came out lightning quick. It arrived at our table before we even sat down. I don't know what type of gravy they cook with their ground beef, but it's delicious. The inside of the pie was piping hot. The Ned Kelly pie had a freshly cracked egg on top. I wasn't as big of a fan of this one. I think I prefer the simpler original pie. The sausage roll was very good. The menu describes it as a cross between a hot dog and a corn dog, but I disagree. The meat is much softer and the bread is way flakier. The seasoning in the beef made it flavorful and savory. The restaurant also sells Australian sandwiches, salads, and desserts. I'd like to come back and try some. In addition, they sell an assortment of packaged Australian food products and toys, such as stuffed koala bears and kangaroos. I didn't see any boomerangs, though. Like just about every other business in Marietta Square, Australian Bakery Cafe occupies old store space, giving it a quaint feel. The ceiling is adorned with flags representing various British territories and the walls have painted murals and giant photographs of Australian landmarks.

Don't get me wrong - the Australian pies are a great concept and I have enjoyed the food here before but today my boyfriend and I had a terrible experience. Freshness is key for quality taste when referring to anything food related and in my garden vegetable breakfast pie it was obvious the dough had been frozen and the egg was not fresh. Then, I proceeded to take a bite of my boyfriend's chicken curry pie and that's when things took a turn for the worst. The filling of this pie was literally pudding like consistency with an overpowering, uncomfortable taste of curry and the dough was raw. The pie, however, was scalding hot, indicating that this pie had been reheated in a microwave. Disappointed and had much better expectations.

Australian Bakery sells freshly made hot pockets. They're very good freshly made hot pockets, but I think some of these reviews are setting expectations way higher than they should be and maybe that's the cause for some of the poorer reviews. The stuff around the shop is neat to look at (especially if you're a bluegrass fan!) and I noticed they sell yesterday's bread for only $1. Staff has always been very friendly. Despite my personal preferences, it is a nice bakery and I can see why they have so many loyal customers.

The standard meat pie and the steak and pepper meat pie were awesome. The dough was so unlike what i was expecting and deliciously flaky. The meat and gravy were perfectly seasoned and mouth wateringly good. But the greatest, most delicious thing we had there was the mini pavlova. They were so amazing and left me wishing i had gotten a large one. The reason this place isnt a five for me is cause the staff wasnt very helpful, and though i wouldnt say they were rude they were rather condescending and uninformative. Dont let that stop you from trying this place though its a must stop.

Lova da meat pie! I am not a huge meat pie fan but from what ive tried here they are pretty dang tasty and the people here are always really friendly. I also really dig the inside of the place, you will want to eat inside and check out the items on the shelves.

LOVE LOVE LOVE This place! Always try to get there if I am in the square, whether eating in or going out! The staff is so friendly and gives great service! The food is amazing! Love the different kinds of "pies" you can get. There are so many, I like them all, so I don't really have a favorite. The sandwich specials are great too! We always come home with the $1.00 a loaf of bread he has out!

I have yet to understand the fascination with this place. I have eaten there maybe 3 times. (each time I think I'll give it another shot...and each time I am disappointed) The last time I even asked for suggestions thinking maybe it was what I was ordering. I find their meat pies (which is suppose to be their specialty) really bland tasting. The crusts are dry and there really isn't much meat or substance to the pie itself. I fail to see people's fascination with this place. The atmosphere is pretty good. You have a small country store kind of a feel to it. The staff is friendly and the service is good.

If you don't deviate from the menu you will be fine. The Breakfast Wraps looked great; However, I ordered eggs (2) over easy and got one scrambled egg. The cook then told me to keep the egg and re-did my order. He came back with a plate with something that looked like one flat fried egg. Disappointed. My suggestion is stick to whatever is on the menu. Won't be back.

Let me start by saying that I never MEANT to watch Anthony Bourdain's visit to Sydney, and the delicious meat pies he ate while traveling, but I DID, and now I have to tell you ALL about the hot and ready meat pie I ordered in Marietta at the Australian Bakery Cafe. Phew. I'm glad I got that out there. I stopped by this cafe, which is very familiar to me. I used to spend a lot of time in "the square", and needed to make a stop at Eddie's Trick Shop, next door, for some wig shopping. I found nothing but a rumble in my stomach and a mighty need to correct this. This bakery is unique, and carries popular food items from foreign countries such as India and South Africa. I know I eyed the chutney while devouring my meat pie and receiving glances from the staff like, "You like that?" Honest to Maude, I didn't know what a meat pie really is, unless you count Chicken Pot Pie. But no, this particular item is an Australian tradition! I ordered One Meat Pie, knowing just these quick and fast details: Did you know? Australians are the world's largest consumers of meat pies per capita, with each person on average consuming over 12 meat pies and a further 17 combined pastries, sausage rolls, and party pies per annum. And it came to me, literally. A meat pie with a filling of ground beef, potato, and flaky filo crust with sharp cheddar cheese atop. Plus a side item, all for me. I was a little embarrassed to be eating a meat pie for breakfast, alone in a restaurant. But after a stressful morning of wig shopping, what's a girl like me to do? Yelp about it!

Great authentic Australian eatery in the hear of old town Marietta. We tried the "Ned Kelly" meat pie, but didn't have time to indulge in any other delicacies... Will definitely go back again.

Australian bakery?...in Marietta? Who would'va thought! To be honest, I must admit that I am very familiar with European and South American bakeries, but I had no idea that Australians were avid bakers as well. As you've read, most of the items within the bakery are meat pie type of dishes. This is certainly a hearty and more filling pastry than the typical croissant or danish. My wife and I ventured into the Sheppard's Pie meat pie and the Sirloin and Onions meat pie. While both were tasty and surprising filling, we both agreed that we felt like we were missing the crispy, flakiness of traditional pie crusts. Make no mistake about it, the fillings in the pie are incredibly savory and certainly memorable; however, we from a texture aspect, the dish would have been complete with a crispy, flakey crust, rather than the bland, doughy type of crust. Although, that being said, I am sure there is some explanation for this, some sort of cooking method or dish cohesion component that I am unaware of. Overall, the meat pies are worth a try if you're in the area and certainly a treat on a cold winter's morning with a fast food price tag.

Had the meat, bacon and cheese pie which was good but nothing special. My wife had the buffalo chicken pie again nothing special. We shared one of their pastries and it was so good. Not sure it was good enough to go back.

They have an unique concept. But I didn't find anything special about the meat pies. Just like the name implies, they are an Australian Bakery. Their claim to fame are their meat pies. It's just ground beef and gravy in puff pastry. I found the gravy too salty. The puff pastry tasted okay. And they're small. You should get 2 to fill you up. One is not going to satisfy you unless you have a small stomach. They have different variations of the meat pie. But I didn't find them too different from their original meat pie. The Ned Kelly pie had an egg on it. But the egg didn't make the pie taste awesome. It just tasted like an open faced original meat pie with a baked egg on top of it. I think it's worth it to try this place out once. It does have an interesting atmosphere. But I wouldn't be a regular.

Strolling around the square last week and came across the Australian Bakery. What the...? Australian bakery?? After a not so funny vegemite joke (my apologies to the Aussies), wife and I decided to check it out. Since we had just eaten lunch, we decided to get something from the dessert case - I had a fruit mince tart and wife had a lemon jam tart. While wife pronounced her lemon tart only as "okay", I really enjoyed the fruit mince tart. The short bread shell was a little dry but the filling was awesome - not too sweet but very flavorful. Went well with their killer southern pecan coffee. We'll definitely eat here again but probably steer away from the lemon tart.

Cheap & Cheerful. The pies are great and it's a friendly atmosphere. My wife and I popped in for brunch one Saturday morning and picked up a smattering of things to try. While we ate they had some one playing guitar in the window, not bad nor disruptive...enjoyable. The food was good as was the price. We'll be back!

I'm normally not an advocate of judging restaurant food by its authenticity and I won't deviate here. However, Australian Bakery makes some great meat pies that remind me of the pies I enjoyed when I lived in Australia many years ago. It's also a nice lunch spot with super friendly people.

I first stopped in for lunch a few years ago and swore never to go back. Well I went back today and I'm very happy I did. I tried the Australian and the curry lamb meat pies, wow, very tasty. These little meat encrusted treats hit the spot. I can't wait to get back and try other varieties and some bakery treats.

So I was out in Marietta, Georgia, taking a motorcycle safety foundation rider course (highly recommended) in the blazing heat, chugging water and burning lots of calories. By lunch time it was necessary to replace some of those calories. I decided to check out Marietta Square. The square turned out to be large and leafy and charming, with little businesses lining all four sides - antique shops, pubs, and this Australian restaurant. Australian food? I'd never tried Australian food before. Apparently they eat savory meat pies down there. Yum! Also, this store has a delicious brewed ginger beer (non-alcohol) in both regular and diet. Yum! If you're in the area it's fun to eat meat pies and drink ginger beer with all the stuffed Koala bears.

Not bad, but not great. I went with one of the lunch specials on the chalkboard near the register -- a meat pie, sides, and a drink -- which ran me just under $8 after tax, if I'm remembering correctly. If the pie on the board's not to your liking, don't be afraid to ask them to sub another variety in; there's quite a wide selection. My steak and onion pie wasn't bad. Decent crust on the outside, very savory and delicious filling on the inside. But the sides were clearly an afterthought, with a vegetable medley straight out of a school cafeteria line and mashed potatoes that were probably flakes not too long ago. The cafe has a display case full of desserts and shelves full of specialty groceries, though I'll admit I didn't really browse anything too closely. Vegemite or pavlova, anyone? Frankly, though if you're looking for a meal of a delicious meat pie with quality sides to boot, I'd rather take the walk across the street to Traveling Fare for a slice of one of Paul's pot pies.

One of my favorite lil spots! It nice, small, different and the prices are reasonable! And also, they are REALLY FROM AUSTRALIA!!! So, it's pretty cool to be in a totally different atmosphere! I may hit it this weekend...you could easily take a date here and spend under $25 for the both of you....

Being a fan of aussie/brit meat pies and missing them terribly from our visits abroad, we were super excited to find this. and dont get me wrong---we go often. BUT i have to say, i eat there mostly out of nostalgia and because there IS no where else. maybe i go on off days, but the pies always taste a bit stale to me, and like they dont use high quality ingredients. its good hearty fare, but often its just nuked to be warmish and tastes day-old or more. but....that wont stop me from eating those damn things!

Stopped by and tried the meat pies recently. I got the chicken and my husband got the steak and mushroom. I felt there was nothing special about the chicken (tasted like a typical chicken pot pie you'd buy frozen at the grocery store. There was very little meat inside.). My husband enjoyed his steak pie, but it took forever for it to cool off enough to eat. The people working there were nice enough on this visit, though.

As an Australian living in the US I was eager to try this place as soon as I heard about it. I'm in love! It's like a taste of home right in the middle of Marietta. They sell an assortment of Aussie groceries including Arnott's biscuits like Tim Tams and Kingstons (the biscuits in the world), pavlova eggs, weet-bix, cherry ripe bars, and vegemite. Their in-house specialty is meat pies. I've tried several different meat pies, in addition to the sausage rolls, cornish pasties and lamingtons. Everything I've had has been very good and very authentic. My favorite meat pie was probably the Shepherds Pie and I love the lamingtons. My only issue has been the price. I think the prices are a little high, but maybe that is because I want to buy everything they have and always end up spending more than intended.

I've been coming to the Square pretty much my entire life and for some reason or another, even though visiting Eddie's Trick Shop a few paces away had never eaten here. I'd noticed it a few times and even gone in and took a look round but it took my friend Dan down from Wisconsin to get me to visit. We wandered through the door and were immediately greeted with all stuff Aussie - from the flags hanging overhead to koalas and kangaroos, and display cases packed with delicious-looking baked goodies. However, it was the smell of the meat pies that hung in the air and the "G'day" greeting which really welcomed us. We got in and got to meet cheery Neville, the Aussie owner and he served us up the lunch special, which were the excellent steak-and-onion meat pies and a salad. He was a great host as well, even taking time to explain the flag for the Eureka Stockade, which was the one flag hanging overhead we didn't recognize. The food was served piping hot and fresh and the salad was excellent as well - nice crispy greens and sliced tomato. Bit simple but it was exactly what we needed. The pies were fantastic and well-flavored, and when combined with the excellent service and great little location it makes for a place I'll happily visit again and again. Can't wait to try the lamb pie! If you're in the area and don't want some tired old chain restaurant, be sure to get in and try something new. You won't regret it!

I wanted to like this place, I really did. I haven't had a pie since living in OZ 12 years ago. These are a terrible example of a British/Aussie/New Zealand staple. Low rent crust encasing low rent filling. Believe me, Americans, these don't come close to a good pie. I agree with one of the previous reviewers, that these look & taste like they are a couple of days old. Their desserts were just as old & tired looking. I tried their small pavlova, & it had "cool whip" on it, instead of whipped cream! Yes, I know that cool whip will last for a good week in the dessert case window, but come on! What Aussie would use cool whip(for anything). Their iced coffees were the weakest drink I have ever had. Think Denny's coffee, watered down by a factor of 4. Yuk. Again, nothing like what you will get back in OZ or NZ. Such a shame. How these people get return customers is a complete mystery to me. I will never go there again, nor could I recommend it to an expat, even a desperate one. I'm from New Zealand & my wife is Australian. She was equally grossed out & unamused. Good thing she didn't see the restroom!

Aww! Roos! Koalas! The Australian Bakery Cafe has been around for 7 or so years, and I finally got to have my first taste. Now, mind you, it was at 9 AM on a Sunday morning. So I didn't get to sample any of those famous meat pies, but I did get to experience the Aussies, at the very least, in a breakfast setting. I had a neat square of a quiche-ish spinach and feta pie. You will find: an inflated Qantas Airlines little plane hovering above your head, giant kangeroo crossing mural on the wall, stuffed koala backpacks to sell, meat pies and free wi-fi. Save some time to browse the Aussie Shop area and get a meat pie to go!

You got to love a place when it has anything "Australian" in it. I did not know what to expect. Who knows what Australian food is like. My adventure down under was a good one. I went in for breakfast this morning. I did not have a clue on what to order so I got the bacon, egg, and cheese wrap special with coffee for $4.99. It was fantastic. The coffee was not bad for an Australian place either!! ;) (like I have been to many Australian restaurants). I ordered some oatmeal for my son, which he did not eat, I ended up scarfing that down myself, it was good. I ordered the cinnamon roll to go and it tastes great according to my wife. They had cool decor in there as well. A huge wall size photo of the Sydney Opera House took up one wall. On the other wall were all kinds of South African and Australian packaged desserts that looked fun, but I had loaded up on sweets for the day. The owner was very polite and took my order with his Australian accent. The other staff members made it a pleasurable experience as well. I will go back and bring friends with me next time. They have a full menu for breakfast and lunch, not too sure about dinner though.

I've been looking for a place that sells meat pies, and I ended up walking in here when I was walking around in Marietta Square one day. The place appears to be mainly run by an Australian, who is very congenial and helpful (not to mention the awesome accent). I ordered the Lamb curry for my first one, and ended up ordering 4 more to go:) I make sure I stop by this place whenever I drive by the area, and if you like meat pies, or 'pasties', (or anything of a commonwealth origin) then give this place a try. Make sure you get one hot and one to go!

Let me preface this by saying that I am a huge fan of meat pies. When my wife and I first heard about this place (soon after moving down here), we put it near the top of our list in terms of places to go. For whatever reason, it took us more than a few months to finally make our way here. Luckily for us, we happened to be driving through the Marietta Square one morning and decided to stop on in. In the end, we're glad we did. We ordered five of their pies: one breakfast pie with eggs and bacon (essentially a quiche), plus four of their traditional meat pies: the Aussie meat pie, curried lamb pie, English pork pie, and the steak and mushroom pie. On the one hand, neither of us were particularly impressed by the quiche. It was all right, but nothing to write home about in the least. It was kind of dry, and not something I'd really ever order again. On the other hand, both of us absolutely loved the meat pies. Every single one of them had a fantastic flavor. My personal favorite was probably the English pork pie (pork, bacon, and thyme is such a magical combination). The Aussie meat pie was also delicious, as was the curried lamb pie. The least impressive of the bunch was the steak and mushroom pie, which tasted good, but had canned mushrooms (boo!). If you're ever looking for a place that serves up a wide selection of meat pies, you probably can't do any better than the Australian Bakery Cafe. As unimpressed as I was with the breakfast pie, I was impressed by their traditional meat pies. We will definitely be back again (and again!) for these delectable treats. They have a big selection of pies (we tried four), and I can't wait to eat my way through the rest of their menu.

I moved to the states from New Zealand 2 years ago, and last year for my birthday my kind American husband decided to order me a bunch of Mince and Cheese pies, and Sausage Rolls to remind me of home. We spent a few hundred dollars at this place and were sorely disappointed. First of all, to any Americans that blindly enjoy these pies, just wait til you try a real Pie from NZ or Aus. These pies do not reflect the taste texture or quality of even the cheapest $1 pies from back home. The pastry is dry and gross, the meat itself is bland and just completely lacks any decent flavor, and they use a CHEEZE WHIZZ type cheese in the Mince and Cheese pies. This is a disgrace. Back home when you buy a pie the cheese is actually real cheese. My husband was very upset, as he spent so much on this thoughtful present to me, only to have it turn out to be a complete let down. He e-mailed the company asking what kind of cheese they used in the pies and telling them our situation of how disappointed we were, and we never had any reply from them. Not only are the products from this place completely sub par, the customer service is terrible too. I urge everyone to stay away from this place, especially anyone from NZ or Aus, as you will be completely disgusted.

This is a nice place to get your bread fix on. Veggies should try the veggie pastie. the Ginger beer and Carmel dessert are pretty good too. It may be me but I thought their prices were a little steep for the vegetarian options compared to the meat dishes. I'm just saying.

Really, really bad food. Lamb pie: meat filling was half gristle, and tasted like barf; Veggie Pasty: just a bunch of frozen peas and corn and potato mush mixed up with uninteresting spices. And the pastry crust itself was stale. I've been to the one in East Atlanta (since closed), and it wasn't any good either. I don't care so much about authenticity of cuisine -- especially when it comes to English food (which this is, essentially). I just want food that tastes good, and to eat it in an environment that doesn't smell like cleaning products. This place fails on both counts. Stay away.

I ordered mini spinach & feta quiches for a brunch I am having and WOW they were a hit. I also picked up several of their different flavors of meat pies, which are just very good hot pockets. Everything is made without terrible added chemicals. TIP: They usually have bags of day old rolls for only a $1. They taste fantastic and so much cheaper than the grocery store!

Living just a few minutes away from the beautiful Marietta square, the Australian Bakery is a staple for me and my family. I for one love their sandwiches and soup when I want a good lunch to get me going. Or their meat pies if I need to tank up with a hearty breakfast in the morning. My wife and son enjoy the desserts and we often buy some to put out when guests visit my home for a relaxing weekend get-together. They always appreciate it. It's also a good place for me to meet clients during the week for morning coffee meetings if they happen to be local to Marietta as well. All around, a great place.

Stopped by here for a lunch eager to try out Australian cuisine. The beef burgundy pie, bundaberg ginger beer and pavlova pastry were delicious. Although small in size, the meat pie was very filling. The Koala bears, Roos and photographic panarama of Sydney helped me imagine for a moment that I was in the land down under. I will definitely return to try the other things on the menu.

We went on Mother's Day - ordered a black and white cookie, a brownie, and a german chocolate brownie. All came to us, when we finally got them, stale. Service was bad and slow. Three people working behind the counter - all acted like they didn't want to be there. Just an overall bad experience.

To be honest, until I ate here for the first time, I had no idea that Australians even had their own cuisine. Ethnocentric of me, maybe the right word is blissfully ignorant? Anyway, I saw this place on Yelp and that's how I ended up here. The food was pretty good. The burgundy beef pie was like a beef bourguignon in a flaky crust. Everyone was really nice and they were very gracious when it came to answering my questions. If you are interested in seeing how the other other hemisphere lives, you should stop in.

I guess this place can stay open because of the fascination people have with Australia. This place is okay, as long as you have never actually been to Australia. If you have been to Australia, then this place is a failure. I have been to Australia and was VERY let down when I stopped by here one day. I was expecting real meat pies, Lift soft drinks, Tim Tam biscuits, Cherry Ripe and Violet Crumble candy bars, and perhaps a flat white coffee. Not even close. They should sell all of these popular Australian foods common to the country. I ordered a meat pie and I was very disappointed. I had a TV dinner style meat pie in Canberra that blew this fresh pie away. I understand that the owner is from Australia. He needs to do a better job of having his country's native treats available for American's to try. I don't like leaving negative reviews, so if you want something to eat that is different, give it a try with the disclaimer that you probably will not like it if you are looking for a similar food experience you had if you have been to Australia before.

I am going to have to agree with Jason W. The pies are really nothing to write home about. The ones here taste stale and dry. I tried this place a number of times hoping that it was just a bad day but alas no change. Saying that the breakfast pies seem to taste a little better. The sandwiches are OK but no sign of the typical crusty rolls and batons that I might expect. The staff are super sweet and friendly. Oh well will have to wait for my Ginsters fix of Cornish Pasty, Steak and Onion, Chicken and Mushroom, Sausage Roll etc.... Actually the sausage rolls are easy to put together at home and pretty good imitation of Ginsters as long as you use a fair amount of cracked black pepper.....

My boyfriend and I had breakfast here on a whim. According to the owner it's the only Australian bakery in the US. I believe him, since we've been all over and never seen one. And it was fantastic! I had the regular meat pie, he had the steak and cheese meat pie and a breakfast wrap. Don't let the term "wrap" fool you though. It was a fresh, delicious bun wrapped around eggs, cheese, and bacon. Everything was super fresh and really tasty. The staff was great too. It seemed like a good spot for regulars. Several of the people who walked in were greeted by name. I always feel good about a place the locals are in to. Big time A++ for The Australian Bakery Cafe.

My husband is Australian so we had to check this place out. Having eaten australian food a lot, i really liked this place. Talked with the owner, who is australian as well, and he's great. The sausage rolls and pies are fantastic...they are exactly what you would get at a local footy game in australia. If you can't make it all the way to down under, i would definitly check this place out....it's authentic! And they also carry aussie food...like Tim Tams!

I went here yesterday while running errands around the square. I had a half off coupon from the entertainment book that was burning a hole in my pocket. It looked different than I expected from the outside, but good different. The employees were friendly, your typical Marietta folks- not Australian, but maybe I came at the wrong time. The atmosphere was kind of cosy and it was pretty empty around when I got there around 1:30. I'm not really a "Australian food" kind of girl I guess because I stared at the display case and menu for what seemed like hours before finding something I might want. I never really did, so I found something my hubs might like instead. I really, really wanted a full lunch, but nothing called my attention. The case was probably my biggest turn off. Nothing looked particularly appetizing from it and that thought translated to the rest of the menu in my head. Even the deserts, my precious deserts! didn't call my attention. They seemed old and generic. I got a steak pie to go and mourned over the idea of no dessert. The pie was pretty tasty, but like I said not really my thing and definitely small/overpriced without the coupon.

This is a good choice for a light meal on the square. The food was tasty and the service was prompt and friendly. Vegetarian options were available and the barista provided helpful descriptions and suggestions. (The veggie sandwich is nothing to write home about, but the spinach-filled pastries are delicious.) I will definitely go back in the future.

I am a British Transplant, and there are times I just have to have a Lamb Curry or Steak Pie. I guess it's programmed into my DNA, and the Australian Bakery never misses the target. Super nice owners, always a Smile and a cheery G'day Mate. Kids love the selection of Australian Candies. They always have a well priced lunch special. Come early, Marietta Square businesses close early.

Food is awesome. Do not get the vanilla pastry. Only strange tasting thing there. Otherwise DELICIOUS. Be prepared to wait. Small place, cook to order.

YUM! The Australian Bakery in Marietta (and the one in East Atlanta as well) are THE places to go for delicious Australian food. The meatpies are small (compared to what we're used to) but VERY filling and delicious! Try the apple slice for something sweet. And if you want to buy some imported foods and candies from Australia, expect to bring extra cash, it's pretty expensive.

This is a place for people who like meat pies, which is why I am surprised--albeit very pleasantly--that it is still in business. We're not consciously much of a meat pie society in the States, but with all the meat we consume, I think it's time we looked a little deeper and embraced this time-honored and flaky vehicle for meat. Anyway, I do recommend the steak, cheese, and onion pie, but pass on the Lamb Curry, because I never found any lamb in mine. The actual desserts are less interesting and made me feel like I was just eating cornstarch. The ambiance also leaves something to be desired, and the huge pictures of Australian wildlife could be toned down a bit, but at least they seem like they're having fun with it.

I found this little place on the historic Marietta Square while on Spring Break with my 5 year old daughter. Although we are American, we LOVE anything Australian.....we hit the JACKPOT! I finally got to try a meat pie, Tim-Tams, Ginger Beer and Vegemite....YUM.....I can't say enough GREAT words about the food, atmosphere, owner and people there! The restaurant is a little beauty!!!! G'Day, Mate and thanks!
