This place is close to work. I make a point to go at least once a week. They do great on the typical "Chinese" dishes that are popular. The Mongolian Beef is awesome, as well as the Beef in Garlic Sauce. My brother always orders the kung pao chicken. The won ton soup is good as well. They also have a small mostly Korean menu of more authentic recipes. I love a dish they call Mandarin Chicken (pieces of fried chicken in a sweet and slightly spicy sauce, not to be confused with sweet and sour chicken). I also love the chap chae. They have galbi but no bulgolgi (!!) and my dad loves their jajangmyeon and the seafood noodle soup. The Ma P The kimchee they will serve if asked also rocks.

Our trip to Mandarin Chinese started with our beverages: two waters with lemon. And THAT was the highlight of our meal here. For an appetizer, we ordered steamed gyoza. They must think that anytime you cook something in water you can call it "steamed" because these were clearly boiled. The texture was terrible and they were nearly tasteless. We ate less than half of the serving. Next came the entrees. We ordered Curry Chicken and Kung Pao Chicken. The Curry Chicken was nearly tasteless. It had only the faint scent of curry -- like someone at a nearby table was eating a curry dish. When the Kung Pao Chicken arrived, I did not believe the server had brought me the right meal. It was not in the least spicy. It was nearly flavorless. The vegetables on on the plate were nearly raw. We both ordered fried rice with our entrees. Their version of fried rice seemed to consist of nothing but steamed rice with a little bit of egg mixed in. Finally, on to the service. Our table was littered with plate after plate of food we hated. Not one inquiry into what we thought about the meal. Not one attempt to pre-bus the table, moving the food we didn't like to make room for the next course that we weren't going to like either. Then, it took at least 15 minutes to get the check to pay for a meal we hated. Next time we want Chinese in Macon, we'll go to the food court in the mall...

Hello excitement! Thanks to Woojoo K. I got wind of this mythical authentic menu that Mandarin offers. Please, please please...request this "Oriental Menu" and you will be very very happy! It is mostly Korean stuff, but they also have ma po tofu and some other random things that aren't on the regular menu. I got the seafood egg noodle soup and was like in love. First of all, ginormous portion is always appealing to the inner glutton. Then the delicious broth and tons of seafood and mushrooms? Yes please. I will definitely be back, and next time I'm trying the noodles with black bean sauce. Oh, word to the wise. Avoid the steamed gyoza like the plague. Those wrappers were thick thick thick...like white bread made into potstickers. Def not a plus or anything that should be sold.

The hot & sour soup was just too good, by no means should you miss the opportunity to enjoy this! The General TSO chicken was good but not the best I've ever had. I wish they would let you substitute noodles for the fried rice, which was not very good. As far as Chinese goes in Macon this is the best place to sit and order with a very nice ambience, if you want a good buffet then stop at New China Buffet!

The Mandarin was a welcome discovery during a recent stopover in Macon while on a cross-country trip. This isn't dive-y Chinese takeout; it's a nice restaurant with a very pleasant, evocative interior. Cocktails are available. On our particular visit I ordered the special of the day, a dish called Triple Crown that included beef, chicken and shrimp in a savory brown sauce; my partner ordered General Tso's chicken. Her chicken was tasty and very spicy; I loved my meal, which also included a delicious hot-and-sour soup; one of the better ones I've tasted. Our only complaints with our meal were a mix-up with our rice order and an egg roll that was, I thought, excessively oily. Otherwise, we enjoyed both the food and ambience very much.

Place is inviting and friendly for a mediocre food.

Awful. General tso's tasted like old, hard, crunchy chicken from kfc half covered with syrup. The princess prawns still had the tails on the shrimp. No veggies in the mix. Asked for bill 4 times then walked up to the front in order to pay. $26 for two dishes, no appetizers. Worth about 10 cents.

Big fan of Chinese food, but this place just wasn't all that great. Maybe it was just a bad day or something. Noodles and wan ton's were stale. Waitress seemed stressed and wasn't so friendly. Soup had a weird color to it. Price was okay, but I doubt I will be back.

This place has the nicest interior design of any Chinese restaurant I have ever been to. Despite the fact that their front door is broken and there seems to be no desire to repair it, the inside is amazing. Its inspiration comes from the design of the emperors' palaces in ancient China. The Chinese watercolor art on glass dividers and a dark ambient atmosphere with classical Chinese music playing throughout the restaurant will make any customer wonder why he or she would ever contemplate eating at another Chinese restaurant in Macon. Their portions are huge and the price is reasonable. I ordered to Ma Po Tofu, a traditional Chinese dish, and it was hmm hmm good. Spicy tofu with tiny chunks of beef smothered in onions, it is Chinese home cookin at an outside restaurant. The importance of Ma Po Tofu is obviously the tofu. It is important that the tofu has the right firmness so it would not fall apart as soon as you dig into it. No such problem here! They use fine quality tofu here, and they know how to prepare it. There was so much food I had to split it between 3 meals! I took a star off, however, because you need to skip the egg rolls. The seasoning is bland. The roll was not fried right. It was not crunchy. I was chewing on it like rubber. Overall, great restaurant. I will definitely be coming back again.

I absolutely love this restaurant! It has far and away the best Chinese food in all of Middle Georgia and I should know because I'm a bit of an Asianophile and I try pretty much every Asian restaurant I see. The General Tso's Pork is absolute Heaven. The Princess Prawns are to die for. And the soup? Hands down, the absolute best hot and sour soup I've ever had. Great food and very good lunch prices. Also be sure to ask for the Asian menu if you're feeling like having something a little different. Highly recommended.

Not the same place it use to be. New owners have let the food go down. Yesterday ( Saturday ) at 1:00 only 6 tables of people. All of us were sick after eating there. Wait staff were so bored they were over attentive. You could not even enjoy lunch. Not that the food was enjoyable. This was my last trip there.

They recently changed owners. The food is ok, but just a bit off. Still the better chinese restaurant in the area. Ask for the authentic chinese menu if you are looking for something out of the ordinary. The Kan Pong chicken off that menu is great.

Our first time visiting this restaurant and we will definitely go back. Decor is attractive, our waiter kept a close eye on us and was quick to respond to requests. The food was excellent. I had shredded chicken with garlic sauce and the chicken was absolutely melt in your mouth. They brought a simple lettuce salad with a light flavorful dressing first, then our entrees. The surprise ending was a small slice of tirasamu flavor dessert and of course a fortune cookie. This is a new favorite place to go!

I enjoy the food here, and the decor is incredible. Possibly the most beautiful restaurant I've been to in Macon. The Peking duck is disappointing, I wouldn't get it again. But I love the house fried rice.

Update: We have been here several times, now, and the food is great every time. I'm keeping this a 4-star review for inconsistency in quality on the same dish, as well as the fact that every once in a while - rarely, but it happens - there will be something that is less-than-perfect. Once, we ordered steamed dumplings and got them fried instead. Another time, I ordered the homestyle tofu (which is supposed to be in a spicy sauce), and it came out in a sweet soy-based sauce. Occasionally a server will forget to ask me which rice I want, and I will forget to specify brown rice. But such is life. I will say that I always order the same thing here, though - the homestyle tofu (or is it called family style? I forget). I've tried other dishes and not found them to be as much to my taste, but there's nothing inherently wrong with having a favorite and sticking to it. Still, I can't come here - personally - for variety. In any case, this is an all-around solid choice for reliably enjoyable American-style Chinese food. This is NOT a dim sum restaurant, and you will NOT find tripe or chicken feet (etc) on the menu. If you're coming in from the San Francisco Bay Area, you will be disappointed by the South in general. But if you're looking for standard American-Chinese fare, you can satisfy your craving here any time. Also - the desserts come out every time! Flavors rotate; we've had chocolate, coffee, and strawberry thus far. Plus, I don't know where they source them, but sometimes they have particularly great fortune cookies - crisp and not overly sweet, just what they're supposed to be.

It was menu only which I liked. Food was freshly prepared as far as I could tell. It's not a buffet so the server is bringing the food from the kitchen vice fixing a plate at buffet which I see a lot around here. I had Mandarin Pork which they said was hot and spicy but spicy it was not. However, it was a generous portion and it was very tasty. On the whole I did enjoy the meal.

Very pleasant, spacious, comfortable and clean. Wasn't too busy so would have liked the servers a little more attentive. Food was very good. Creature of habit, I always order orange chicken wherever I go. I was surprised to get Mandarin's take. Most placed toss the chicken in the sauce. This time it was poured over the chicken. I've had lemon chicken like this and am usually not a fan because it is usually over sauced and too sweet. Not the case here. It was a very tasty sauce and just the right amount. The rice was perfectly cooked as well. Only downer was the table next to me. Don't understand how parents of toddlers can completely ignore their screaming children and are insensitive to those around. Otherwise, definitely visit next time I'm in town.

This is the best sit down Chinese I have found in middle GA. The menu is HUGE, so it's a great choice if you have a lot of picky eaters, including vegetarians. I have been here on a date and with a group of over 12, and with other groups in between. The layout is really good for handling groups of all sizes. It's definitely a little pricier at night, but on par with most Chinese restaurants. So if you want to try it and save some money I recommend you start with lunch. The standout dish for me is the bbq pork ribs. They are seriously the best ribs I have found in Macon. I also recommend their wonton soup; it is better than average.

This restaurant has been around for many years, and nothing has changed. The sesame chicken and moo goo gai pan are delicious. Servings are generous, and the employees are kind and courteous. Those who are only accustomed to "to go" Chinese restaurants will not appreciate this restaurant, nor will those who are looking for a modern "PF Chang" experience.

I ordered the General Tso's Chicken. It came out in a blackish sauce that was soupy...not at all thickened up with cornstarch or xanthan gum, the way it's supposed to be. The flavor was way, way off from any General Tso's I'd ever previously had before as well. Or, at least I thought it was the sauce that tasted so weird. What I realized, however, after several bites was that the funkiness I was tasting was RANCID CHICKEN!!! I spent the rest of the evening in my hotel room shaking, having cold sweats, and being nauseous. Eat at your own risk.

We ordered take-out. The order was correct and ready at the time they said it would be. We got the General Tso's chicken, Sesame Chicken, and Beef with broccoli. Everything was pretty good -- better than your typical Chinese restaurant in America. The chicken was a little dry, but other than that, A-OK. Fortune cookies were good.

Food is always delicious and fast. Friendly service. Mongolian beef and princess prawns are addictive. Some Chinese places serve a lot of chewy "mystery meat" but I find they have good quality white meat chicken dishes and better quality beef than most all others. Lunch specials are a great price for a ton of food.

Stopped by here on our way back to Atlanta through Macon. it was a rainy scary night and we were attempting to escape the scare of the highway for some hit-the-spot chinese food. We got there at 930 nervous that they were going to be closed. We walked in and it was empty, but the family who owns it was super nice and stayed open just for us! Also, of course we had to order a complicated order, but the owner was super nice to accomodate our asks. They even brought extra white rice for my cousin because she ordered to split.

Was told about this place by a friend who lives in the area. The menu is great and so is the atmosphere. I split one meal between 3 people and there was still some left over.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
