Excellent food. Excellent service. Maybe it was because we ordered four meals, but they had no problems giving us extra chips and salsa. We all enjoyed it. I had my usual "original chimichanga" with chicken. It came with beans, guacamole, lettuce, and tomato. It was great. My friend had some combination meal. It was good, but too much, so he took some home. All four of us enjoyed our meals.

The best Mexican restaurant in Macon! I love to eat here. Favorite is Pollo Ala Mexicana, a great combination of flavor and spice. Their Black bean and Chorizo dip is amazing! Great as an appetizer! The waiters and management are all friendly and very accommodating! They always make sure I have a great experience! Highly recommend!

I have no clue how this place got good reviews. My fiancee told me about this place and so we went together. First off I got beef tacos and rice and beans as my main course. There was no seasoning whatsoever in the beef or beans it's was just bland. The rice was just a little better but nothing great. At this point I was horribly disappointed and we got desserts to share. A fried ice cream and churro both were inedible. The churros were soggy and had no crunch whatsoever they felt underdone and gummy. I also though there could be no way to screw up fried ice cream but was wrong. The shell it was in was stale and the ice cream itself had horrible freezer burn with ice crystals. Overall I was disappointed.

Our waitress was so rude. When we first got there, me and my friend asked for an extra salsa because we don't like to share same bowl...sanitary reasons. The waitress told us we could only have one and that any additional salsa she would have to charge for. She also made a snide comment saying "you'll eat all that salsa by yourself?" Really? You took a job as a SERVER so serve instead of being an jerk! Also, the chips were stale. It was prime hour lunch time too! You would think they would have fresh chips! Never going back! Every other Mexican place I know never has told me how many salsas I'm allowed!

Great grilled chicken burritos. Great family atmosphere. Love the Sam Adams Light. We go there frequently. Always great food.

So, this is the ritzy El Sombrero. I live in the ghetto, so I normally go to the shady version of this place...but sometimes, you wanna upgrade and be fancy, so last night I headed over to North Macon and saw how El Sombrero does it, elite style. First of all...the place was PACKED. Folks apparently loooooove them some El Sombrero. Despite the raging crowd, the hostess was friendly, and they were very good about getting people on the list, finding them and moving tables around to fit ginormous parties. The food was good, nothing to write home about, but solidly yummy and huge portions. Two greedy mofo's had dinner for 16.00...and seriously, you can't beat that! And we had a queso appetizer. Yay! This is shredded lettuce and nacho cheese mexican, but the salsa was fresh, perfectly salted and had a little kick. Can't beat that. Standard combo meals, burritos, fajitas, etc but the sauces/meats/salsas all tasted different and they tried to put a little bit of flair into presentation. Fast service, hot food...you won't be blown out of the water here, but you won't be disappointed either.

El Sombrero continues to reinvent itself from the mediocre Tex-Mex establishment it was when I was a child. Although the appearance remains relatively the same, the menu at El Sombrero increasingly fuses more authentic and traditional Mexican dishes with the Tex-Mex fare Americans expect from restaurants like this one. One of my recent favorite additions to El Sombrero's menu, is a torta, a Mexican sandwich/street food, which is served in a paper wrapper. At El Sombrero, the torta combines slow-cooked pulled pork or chicken, jalapeño crema, and avocado. The sandwich is messy and deliciously flavored. The heat is cut perfectly with the creamy, mild textures of the avocado and crema. El Sombrero serves their sandwich with a side of hand-cut fries, which are reminiscent of Del Taco's surprisingly addictive fries. El Sombrero on Forsyth Road is a casual, relaxing, and enjoyable restaurant with incredible menu items that reflect authentic Mexican cuisine. When at the restaurant, order more adventurously. If you haven't tried it or heard of it before, it is likely to be leagues beyond the standard beef tacos and burritos you may be accustomed to. Also, keep in mind that all El Sombrero Mexican Restaurants are not created equal. This is the only location that offers up genuine flavor that continues to evolve.

I probably go to this restaurant more than any other here in Macon. I like everything about this place. If you ever go, try the Chilaquiles, I usually get the chicken Chilaquiles but beef is available too. I can never finish my plate due to me being full. The service is fast, friendly and always helpful if a problem were to arise. If you go around lunch time before (3:00PM) the prices are great. They have plenty of beers to choose from too (import & domestic) If you can, check this place out!

Absolutely the best Mexican food in Macon! I have had nothing bad there ever! To be clear this is the one on Forsyth. There are three in the area and each one is different.

El Som has some of the best Mexican food I have ever eaten. The chunky, zesty, house-made salsa is a great start and I have never made a bad choice there. The burrito de la roqueta is fantastic; the lunch portion is usually all I need and comes for under $6.

Best Mexican restaurant around! Hands down. No clue where one star reviews come from but it's simple to ask your server to correct any problems you may have or even management. They have amazing chicken and steak entrees and salads that are phenomenal. Chunky guacamole is awesome as well. They have plenty of items on their menu that are healthy minded as well. A lot of our athletes eat here post training. Highly recommended

So the food here is great, my favorite meal being the taco al pastor. I had never had taco al pastor before coming to El Sombrero, but it is now one of my favorite Mexican dishes. My only complaint would be one night, a few of my friends and I arrived at El Sombrero and we were told there would be about a 15 minute wait. After 20 minutes, we starting to get a hungry so I went to ask about our wait. I overheard the host talking to a waiter about how the grill was broken so they weren't seating people. The host continued to tell people that the wait would be 15 minutes, but never mentioned that the grill was broken and they were not sure when it would be fixed. We left after 30 minute of waiting.

It was good!!! I don't like this little rule they have about the free chips and salsa. You have to order a full meal on the menu and you only get a basket. Its not a BIG deal but you can just go to any other mexican place and not have to worry about it. I don't like that they don't have an ala cart menu. I always like to order something small so I can fill up on cheese dip. My hubby and I ended up splitting the Texas Fajitas and asked for no chicken. Well they did not add more meat or shrimp. They gave us 3 pieces of shrimp and 4 pieces of beef. It was good and the veggies were good. But for the amount vs the price it was not my fav. They don't have a patio either. I prefer La Parilla. I try to support the local businesses and they deserve it more than chains do but I just was not impressed.

I'm giving them a four star because I've had better Mexican food when I lived in Texas. But, by a landslide this is the best Mexican food in the Macon area. I attended the restaurant for a girls night out a couple weeks ago. Our table was waiting on us and the waiter was very sweet & attentive. I enjoyed the guacamole, Carne Asada Tacos de Asada and a strawberry daiquiri. The food was prepared properly and came out fresh. My only complaints are that the the tacos don't come with the usual side of rice and beans like most restaurants. Also, the tacos were overpriced at over $7 for a plate of three tacos. But, in my option and from prior experiences in Texas most items on the menu looked overpriced. I think if your looking for a good Mexican restaurant and don't mind the prices then you'd enjoy El Sombrero.

This is a very popular Mexican restaurant in the North Macon area, and it's easy to see why. The Mexican food (at least what I've had) is the best in Macon. I'm a big fan of the "original" chimichanga, which offers up two chimis and beans. They'll give you rice and beans if you ask. Good, fresh ingredients with the salad on the top is just fantastic. There are many flavors of margarita, and this brand -- whatever it is -- is my favorite. The atmosphere is always very welcoming, and because it's so busy it's loud. But there's plenty of room for large groups, and they serve plenty of them -- youth sports teams, for example -- either in the main dining room or in a large adjacent room. There is another El Sombrero near downtown Macon and, while it may be run by the same family, I've found that it isn't quite as good as this one. My only reason for not giving this 5 stars is because I so seldom have anything other than the chimichanga that I can't judge the other food. But I can judge the crowds and others I've talked to, and they all agree that for the food at the atmosphere, this Mexican place is hard to beat.

Real Mexicans serving good food. Salsa is one of the best in town. Tacos de Asada is pretty good. Good service fair prices and their beers have little ice crystals in them. That alone makes it worth the trip. They do need to figure out that you can't wrap a hard shell taco in aluminum foil for to go orders. They get soggy and the bottom falls out. Great place highly recommend it.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
