Double chili burgers are pretty good; fills the need for greasy, salty food cravings. Fries are good only when they are freshly cooked - as in just out of the fryers fresh. Chili dogs are meh - extra mustard and ketchup makes the edible. I'll stick to Brandi's for chili dogs. This Varsity location is ok. For some weird reason, the Varsity food taste better at the downtown location.

I came here for a late night dinner with my cousin and her friends. This is a fast food type joint. Apparently, this place is known for their chili hot dogs/ burgers. It was delicious!!! Chili with french fries were awesome. As much of a fast food place this is, I cannot wait to go back for some of that delicious food again. :P ENJOY!

Not quite the authentic downtown experience, but still a good dog and orange drink. A great place to crash while the wife is in the mall.

Seriously, I don't understand the hype...and I'm *almost* a Georgia native. Hubs says I don't get it because I don't order the hot dogs. He says they have the best hot dogs ever, anywhere. If hot dogs with chili and slaw are your thing, then dig in, you'll probably love it, I just wouldn't expect much out of the cheeseburgers. I can, however, recommend the Frosted Orange and the onion rings - such artery-clogging goodness!

For what it is, it deserves a top rating. Must-have hot dogs and onion rings. Slaw, cheese, chili or naked varieties for the dogs. Fries are good too. Wish they would bring back wings. Pies finish off the meal.

My father is obsessed with chili dogs. For his Birthday and Father's Day, I stop by this Varsity on the way up 75 from Atlanta to celebrate. I would grab him a box of dogs at the downtown location, but pulling off on Barrett Parkway ensures that they are as fresh as possible. Yesterday the man at the drive-through window got me especially giddy over my half-dozen order of chili dogs. "Are you ready? Are you ready?" he built the anticipation. "BOOM!" he smiled while lowering the substantial, steaming box toward my window. Daddy will devour them in one sitting. It's like I brought him a chest of gold.

I seriously miss this place everyday. Whenever I visit family in Georgia, I HAVE to go here. Even went here for my birthday last year. It's the best. THE best. Fast, friendly service. Unbelievable chili cheese dogs. Good fries. And the PC! My oh my - I am in heaven when I'm at The Varsity.

Let see the onion rings are great! The hot dogs are very small and the chill looks like dog food! Some said it best, the Varsity is living on it past!

After a long day on the baseball field we headed over to varsity, the place was busy good energy and it met the needs of growing boys. The onion rings are amazing, my favorite! Staff was friendly and quick to tend to our orders. I must admit if I had to choose between in & out or varsity I think in & out makes a better burger. Overall, good experience great place for a fast meal

Total crap food no other way to put it. Just about the only thing I enjoyed was the reminiscent quad/cafeteria type decor and atmosphere. Back to the food, when I first moved to GA I heard people raving about this place yet no one dared to let me know that after I order my burger I would receive a paper thin slice of who knows what ona bun..naked..no ketchup, no pickle..nothing. I nearly got obscene in the joint, after all I could have went to burger king for less. I'm use to those NY burgers that make you open up wide and say aahhhh. The fries were pitiful. Tasted like raw potato and were thin. Never again will I go to that place, worst use of money.

I should note that I am not an Atlanta native, but my boyfriend is. He brought me here on our way to the movie theater as we needed to stop somewhere quick for lunch. It was indeed very quick. I ordered a cheeseburger and a frosted orange shake. Both were good, but the burger was tiny. The burger was about half the size of a regular fast food burger. I had to steal one of my boyfriend's chili dogs as I was still hungry. I did not like the chili dog. My boyfriend, however, loves the Varsity. I think his love is based upon nostalgia. He says whenever his school went on a field trip downtown they stopped at the Varsity for lunch. Without that nostalgia I would skip this place.

It was worth the wait. Friendly services + great food = a returning customer.

I lived in the dorms at Georgia State across from the Varsity on North Avenue for a year. I have fond memories of the smell of the grease walking from the Marta station at the end of the day. When I started working in Kennesaw, somebody came in from lunch one day with a cup from the Varsity. "You went all the way to Atlanta for lunch?!" "Um.. no.. there's a Varsity by the mall." God loves me! Now this Varsity is not like the Varsity in Atlanta. Instead of robust calls of "What do ya have!" there are much more timid people behind the registers. The place is lacking the charming skank of the original. And instead of sports or news programs on the television there were children's cartoons. But the food is the familiar greasy chili dogs and fries I'm used to. People either really love the Varsity or really hate it. Growing up in Atlanta my classes took many field trips to the city, always stopping for lunch at the Varsity. The Varsity holds a happy place in my heart and I'm glad to have one near my new home on the north side.

a very small burger for the price.

Unimpressed. Don't see why so many people come here to eat.

If your expecting a healthy grease free meal, you will be disappointed. But if you want some good, fresh made fries and onion rings, here's the place. The burgers and dogs are good too. The grease is good for you, it lubes your digestive track.

Not the same as the downtown version, however, the chili cheese slaw dogs do fit the bill without the trip to downtown. If you want the "Varsity experience" you have to visit the downtown location. If you've been there and done that, then you can get your fix just fine here.

tasteless chilidog, shriveled hot dog. the fried pies were very good. place was clean, staff were nice, the the food is BAD. When one has eaten at Top Dog or Caspers hotdog this place gets one star.

  • Trevor C.

This is definitely not the original. It's missing the atmosphere of the downtown location. But if you need a quick fix and don't want to drive into Atlanta, you'll leave happy. It's hard to beat getting two chili dogs, fries, and a frosted orange.

I'm not an Atlanta native though my wife is. She says the Varsity is a go to place but I think it's just a bunch of leftover hoopla from memories of bygone years. For me a restaurant has to have a balanced amount of good food and showmanship to be satisfying. The main location downtown still has a bit of the original "show" left in it bones but as the old timers die out the show is diminished. As for the food, well it's just a hotdog for goodness sake. We recently stopped at the Kennesaw location, my wife just had to go, I'd call it a NO SHOW and NO GO. We ordered 3 chili dogs one chili burger, fries, rings and 2 drinks. I was unimpressed. the chili dogs were OK, but so are those at 7-11. the chili burger was terrible, and invisibly tiny. It was mostly two pieces of bun with sauce in between. The 99 cent double cheeseburger at BK would be gourmet by comparison. Had to return the fries, limp and under cooked, for a new batch, better this time. The high light of the meal was the rings, all 6 of them. Bottom line is.... You can't clone history. And at $16 the meal was over priced and under whelming.

I love a bacon cheese burger!!! I love the varsity! But this was by far the worst varsity I have been to. Atlanta, Athens, and even the vendors at braves games. All of them have way better food. Wendy's trumps in terms of value. If you plan on coming here, I beg of you, GO TO FIVE GUYS OR CHEESE BURGER BOBBY'S!!!!!!!!!!

I remember the first time I went to the varsity I was excited to experience the restaurant... I was disappointed. The food is barely considered good and the restaurant always just looks dirty.

Awesome awesome awesome the food is great and the price is right!!!!!!! Frosted Orange drink well worth it, location is easy to access.

The slaw dog is really good here, as is the chili dog. Actually, I'm fairly certain all their dogs are good. Always have to get an Orange Julius too.

Classic place for ajyone visiting Georgia. Its not the original, but if this is as far south as you are going make the stop.

  • Brooke S.

The varsity is honestly disgusting. I hate giving one star reviews, but my whole family has gotten food poisoning multiple times. The food is covered in grease, and the portions are tiny for a big cost. I have no idea why it's so famous- all the locations are the same. Unless you really love the chance of food poisoning, a crowded and loud atmosphere and over paying for your food, this is not the place for you

  • B D.

It's popular, but I don't know why. The chili dogs taste like lower quality meats and very greasy. Not the best tasting chili sauce either. Onion rings- greasy.

Glad I went to the original Varsity first. This place doesn't melt the cheese like the real Varsity does. Service was good and the dogs were still pretty darn amazing. The location on yelp for this restaurant is incorrect.

Service at the Kennesaw location has really gone down hill. Today at 11:30am on a Saturday, they had only one person the counter and about twelve customers waiting. There were no onion rings ready yet. Had to wait on those. The man at the counter was extremely rude. The size of the hamburger was really small for price. They need new owners or management. The poor service has been going on for some time. I will not go back to that location.

The Varsity is not the place it used to be. It's not nearly the way it was. The prices are extremely high. The hamburgers are overcooked. For those of us who must use something other than sugar in our ice tea these days they only offer sweet n low. The French fries and the fried pies are still great but that's about all there is. I visited their food truck several months ago and it was horrible. They had pre cooked hamburgers that were old and overdone, frozen french fries from the grocery store, no fountain drinks at all and no iced tea just Coca Cola products in cans. There are plenty of other places to go for hamburgers that are better and cost a lot less. It's too bad the Varsity experience has just disappeared.

For price of one plain dog here I can buy 1 n 1/2 package from store. Priced way to high for what you get. Should have just kept the original location downtown has the one n only. I won't be back.

IT IS THE VARSITY!!!! Been around from the main like all who were kids and went here. You know what this is and they deliver - from the naked dogs, chili, onion rings, FO and so on....It's the place you go when you want to get that memory every couple of weeks or reward/bribe kids for the report card or cleaning out the gutters.... This is the place me and other friends first went to after being a year on deployment overseas in 90-91 and we were not alone with the main room downtown looking like a PX with the number of uniforms from every branch. Stupidity about ketchup or petty things don't matter against the rest, you know every taste and they remain the same every time and they do deliver.

I stop by this location when I'm in the area, just for a chili dog and a fried peach pie! The Varsity is one of the places that I can actually eat a chili dog from, and they never let me down. The service is fast and friendly. The fried pies are great also but the peach is my favorite by far.

  • Kristin W.

Not sure what all the hype was about. To me, it was just another fast food join. I ordered a naked dog with onion rings. Nothing really to complain about but nothing really to rave about. Their hot dogs aren't very big. The best thing about this place... I guess the prices.

Are we being serious right now?!? I just need to know how/why this place is still open? I went here with my family after being referred here by co-workers. I didn't even eat my food after a few stares and small bites. I just can't believe I was mislead by this place. Yelp is the best thing now since finding it.. Sad place, horrible food and sucky service.

A typical American-style fast food place of the elder people and kids! Don't be fooled by the pictures, the food served really small size and portion. Hotdog is too salty.

    (2)
  • Grumpy H.

Not a bad place to go - same Varsity food as the one downtown but no carhops makes it just another fast food joint.

  • Arick S.

I am going to ignore other reviews and take this place with a grain of salt. They don't market themselves as some upscale fast food chain. No way. You can get an orange freezee and a hamburger for a few bucks. The Varsity (not necessarily this location) is a historical landmark to Atlanta and Georgia. Take it as it is. Anything on the menu will crush your craving for old style drive-in foods: chili dogs, chocolate shakes, onion rings. And you can get a free hat. Nice.

This was my first time visiting a Junior Varsity...it was okay. Ordered slaw dog and chili dog, fries and Frosty O... It was good... The best was the Peach Pie. The atmosphere just isn't the same as downtown. If you have never been you visit the downtown location first. Overall, the food was good and not good for you!
