Kiku is the only sushi place close by, fresh on Thursday nights best time to drop by. Our sushi chef has moved on, but the new chef is not to bad. He seems to bring new ideas to the bar, but with very limited english which I don't mind. Waitress is attentive, which was not the case a couple of years ago. I'm not sure if it's the tip, or because we are regulars now...I think a little of both. Dining area is nice and entertaining chefs at the table are very nice and tries to please with good food and keeps the waitress abreast of any problems at the table.

What a shame. Used to be a nice Japanese restaurant. Had poor service once before but thought we'd give them another chance. Tonight, two families (of 4) were seated after us (just the two of us) and they were served before us. Waitress forgot our miso soup. Sushi chef didn't know the difference between avocado and cream cheese. Tried to tack on two $2 misc charges which they quickly removed when I questioned what they were for. All in all, not a good second chance experience. We won't be back.

I have been here maybe around 5 times in the past couple of years and recently I stopped by with my sister and boyfriend. The service were okay, but not the fastest or friendliest. We had a party of four with a toddler and probably the second table in there. It took a while for us to get our drinks, our orders being taken and ect. Also, I had some question regarding the sushi menu but it wasn't really clarified. I am not sure if its because of a language barrier or not, but I didn't get much help. Anyways so we ordered the following: -Spider Roll (good, with a nice crunch) -Gainesville Roll (I like this one, well made) -Chicken Fried Rice (a okay, but not the best) -Beef Fried Rice (beef were too hard) -Dragon Roll (The eel was a very big amount, but for the price, it's about right) -Volcano Roll (not as much topping as other restaurant) Overall, I would come back just for the Dragon roll and Gainesville roll. Other than that, everything else is okay and nothing really stand out.

Sushi review only: Their idea of a spicy salmon roll is a small salmon roll with a dab of sriracha on top. The spicy tuna inside one of the rolls was not that spicy at all. Like other reviews have mentioned here, there were missing ingredients. I should've known there would be issues when pink ginger showed up, the sign of an inferior sushi restaurant. The portions were nice, but I was disappointed. Also, the waitress failed to bring items that were ordered...

The hibachi here is outstanding! The orange sauce they serve is the devil! Seriously you will want to dip your ice cream in it, its that good. I wish I could order my sushi and get it BEFORE my meal but can't because the sushi bar sets their own time frames. Oh well, don't mind me I will just be over here....drinking this sauce.

Met a friend for sushi and was not pleased with the food. I ordered two rolls and they were both falling apart. One roll was a spicy yellow tail and the fish was not trimmed and was sticking out of the side of the role. Service was the same as every sushi place I have been to, very slow and unpleasant. I will not go back.

I have been a regular at Kiku for years and I'm still coming back for more! It's by far the best Japanese Steakhouse/ sushibar that I've ever been to. They sure do know how to make some killer sauces!! I recommend sitting in the sushibar dining area. Here, you can have the best of both worlds, just not the fiery volcano show. The kitchen chef is the best in the restaurant! I recommend their teryiaki chicken! The sauce is infused with sake! And for sushi lovers I reccommend the Gainesville Roll, Lion King, Bonsai, and volcano! Happy Eating :)

Meet a group of friends here on a weeknight, we only had a table of 6 & had a hard time getting service, but once she got our orders squared away I don't care to complain much. After 6 bottles of warm Sake between 3 couples (only 4 of which were drinking) & numerous amounts of appetizers, salads, soups, & rolls upon rolls of Sushi I deem this place one of the greatest in Gainesville. If they have it...Go for the Volcano Roll. De-lish! : - ) Maybe one day I'll be able to pass on the Sushi & give the Hibachi a try.

Good Food and service, but they submitted my credit card for more money than I signed for on my sales slip - a little extra money for them perhaps. If I did not match my receipts to me credit card statement, they would have gotten away with it - PAY CASH ONLY or run the risk of being overcharged......

Not sure we would have enjoyed the food here since it was old, dirty, and just plain gross inside. But we didn't get a chance to try it out since no one even spoke to us once we were seated. Having our 2-year-old with us prevented us from waiting it out, but I'm guessing it would not have been a memorable meal. Bathrooms were old and dirty, tables were dirty, menus dirty. Again, had we tried the food, I doubt it would have been edible. Left before we even got our drinks.

Sat at the sushi bar and had a sushi Regular. Salad was great, miso soup was ok (not real hot just warm), sushi was GREAT. Sushi chef took great care of me.........highly recommend this place

For Gainesville...this is a pleasant place to get high quality sushi and sashimi. I have never dined in the hibachi area...always in the sushi bar. Service is attentive and food appearance is amazing.

I have been to a lot of Japanese restaurants for sushi so I know what to expect. I was not impressed with KiKu. It was not bad, but I gave it two stars because the Yelp description is spot on to my thoughts - "Meh, I've experienced better." Nothing special or distinctive about this restaurant. Doubt I will be going back given other choices available.

Worst Japanese steak house and sushi I have ever had. I tried 2 sushi rolls, both were very loose and poorly made. One was missing ingredients and the other one tasted awful plus pieces had fallen a part on the plate when it came. It just looked like it had been thrown on the plate. My husband got the chicken tempura, only came with two small pieces and the rest was random fried vegetables. Everything was over priced and they charged for ever little thing. Don't waste your money!

Felt like having a sushi feast, so we stopped by on a busy Friday night, and got a seat at the sushi bar fairly quickly. Ordered 8 raw, four raw rolls, and four cooked. Equated to almost 50 pieces divided between three people! Delish! Try the Hell roll if you like your sushi very spicy... kicked up with the addition of Sriracha!

I got sick when I ate here. I got food poisoning and I had to go to the hospital. I originally though this place was pretty good considering it being an Americanized Japanese place but after I got sick I will never come back .
