We were just passing thru this part of south Georgia at lunchtime so we checked YELP to see what's good in the area. Based on the reviews, we rolled in to Okefenokee for a southern style lunch and we certainly weren't disappointed. It was a buffet with all southern comfort foods and very well prepared. I had grilled okra and it was delicious (I eat a lot of okra but I've never had it grilled, but I will from now on.) The dessert wasn't much, but I was too full anyway after the fried chicken, peas, cornbread, okra and creamed corn. Nice to find a neat country place in the middle of seemingly no where.

Friday night seafood buffet - nice fresh shrimp and bay oysters fried to perfection. The Boss is in the parking lot grilling Ribeye's should you care for some surf n turf. I will be re-routing my next trip back from the Magic Kingdom to stop off here to dine. Fantastic seafood shorter than the coast, and for $15 a head all you can eat seafood, you gotta love it.

When looking for a country buffet, this one can't be beat. The fried catfish is outstanding. With a wide assortment of meats and vegetables you will find something you like. The iced tea is strong like it should be.

I was down in Folkston for some train watching and was told to skip the fast food places, sit down, and have some real food. I was glad that we took that advice! We arrived a bit late, but they were still open and still had food, so we sat down, and chowed down! This place had your typical buffet fare, chicken fingers, fries, mashed potatoes, etc, but being in the south, this place also had southern delicacies. They had fried catfish, chicken fried (veal?) steak, gumbo, and red beans & rice. One of my friends who is from Louisiana, said that the gumbo wasn't authentic, but suggested that I put the gumbo over the red beans and rice. Delicious! I thought it was interesting how the soda here is sold by the can and not from a fountain.

There aren't a lot of places to eat around here and if you're curious, like me, this buffet is a good stop. Being from the midwest, there are many southern foods I haven't had but love to try. Buffets allow me to try these things without investing in one thing I might not like. Like grits. I just can't make myself love them. :( I'm not sure how much it cost but I remember it was really cheap. I came later in the afternoon so I think I was in the late lunch too early for dinner stretch so the food was older. Not bad at all. Just not super fresh or super hot. I didn't really mind. I just wanted to taste. I got my fair share of southern delicacies I've never or rarely experienced, including grits, greens, beans, cornbread, fried chicken, mashed taters and mmmhmmm fatback (fried fat). Even the chicken gravy was a little different and had chunks of eggs in it. The atmosphere was just fine. It feels kind of like a diner and you can tell a lot of locals eat here. And since I was seated in a big booth all by myself, I got a few weird looks.
