Great mexican food! We had the lunch menu it's and they came out very quick. I love their white cheese with jalapeños. I had the chimichanga with the cheese poured over it. Soo good!

Oh my! We are in town for a big tournament and this was close to the hotel. The decor was actually really cute and colorful and they had a live guitar player. That was a plus. The food was terrible and I do mean terrible. We had a party of 5 and no one's food was good. We had your typical tacos, enchiladas, quesadilla, and tamales. I hate enchiladas made with low quality cheese and bad flour tortilla. The worst part was for refills...the waiter took our glasses to the back and came back with what appeared to be our previously used cups. The concern was...who's glass was who's??? My Mom was so grossed out, she refused to drink anything. Anyway...total bummer.

Went to have dinner with my family today, we had to wait for almost 20 minutes before our server came to the table (after she heard me go to the hostess to ask for a server). It took her another 15-20 minutes before getting our drinks out even though they were served at the bar, our food order didn't take that long but she forgot my son's beans, and finally took forever to bring our check. As a former server, this is not a good image for the staff or the restaurant. I have been here several times and the last 2 times have not been that great. There is a saying that says: Good service can fix a bad meal, but a good meal can't fix bad service.

Very mediocre Mexican food. Bland. No flavor. Reasonably priced for the quantity. But would never come back here because of the weak flavors. Felt like I was sitting next to everyone at the restaurant. Lots of better options for Mexican. This is bar food at best.

This place isn't bad. I've had better service before but maybe the waiters don't think to bother with anyone too much unless there are more than 1 person at the table. I tried the chicken fajitas. They were good, but I didn't like my pico de gallo mixed close to my guacamole. Not much to complain about with this place. The price was right as well.

Excellent experience here! Great atmosphere, super fast and friendly. We had chips and salsa at our table before we had a chance to sit in the booth! Our waiter Luis was on the ball with drink and chip refills we never had to even ask. We ordered the enchilada stack and the steak bowl both excellent! Very impressed wish they had one of these back in orlando. Manager Mr. Juan made 2 stops at our take to personally check on us. Couldn't have been happier so High Five owners, managers, and staff I would be a regular here for sure if we lived closer.

This was my go-to place earlier on in life, when I didn't know any better. That is not to say that Fronter is bad, but it doesn't accurately depict what Mexican food (of any region in Mexico) is meant to taste like. It's billed as "Mex-Mex", but it really is just Iowa-Mex, or Atlanta-Mex. Name your geographic area, and apply the word "Mex" just after it, and you've got Frontera. Now, that diatribe out of the way, there is what IS good about Frontera... The portions are large, and the pricing in on-par with suburban Atlanta fare of this type. Some of the sauces are bland, but the salsa is tasty with a nice spice that isn't altogether original, but good. Frontera has positioned themselves well with what works for their given areas, so I applaud them for this, and adjusting as necessary, BUT that doesn't represent the Mexican food usually found in, well... Mexico. I get that most people use Mexican food as a catch-all for spice with chips and salsa, but if you explore your areas a little bit more, you will find actual Mexican food, for a lot less money. I won't recommend any places locally as my palate may not suit your's, but stop going with easy for a change and branch out from nachos, or Speedy w/ rice. You are doing yourself an injustice by saying " I want Mexican, let's do Frontera"

We stopped in here for some drinks and tacos before a concert last night and it was packed. We got lucky and grabbed a high top table in the bar area. We were greeted by a nice waitress and ordered a bucket of beers and our food. Got the beers... 40 minutes later we asked about our food and it was clear she forgot to order it. It came out a few minutes later and I took a bite of my el pastor taco to find the driest and worst tasting pork ever and bit into something hard. It was so gross. The waitress wanted us to fill out some little ticket to win some stupid cruise and when we declined she put us on ignore mode. Whatever. Won't be back...

My first review on Yelp! I went on Cinco de Mayo with my boyfriend in the late afternoon and it wasn't busy surprisingly. There was a band outside setting up for tonight's festivities. Very live Hispanic music playing! Great atmosphere! It took awhile for us to order our food even though their were five waiters standing around, carrying conversations amongst themselves. It took about 20 minutes for us to get our water. I ordered a Coronarita and they ran out of the huge glass they usually put the drink in, so I was handed a red cup with liquor and beer over spilling. My boyfriend didn't like the replacement cup, but I was fine with it. About 40 minutes later, we got our food. I was okay with the wait because I understood other orders were being put in at the same time. I ordered the flautas (4) and it came with refried beans, Mexican rice, lettuce, tomato, guacamole, and sour cream. Out of the entire meal, the beans were to my liking. The flautas were too crispy. I didn't really like them much. My boyfriend ordered the enchilada stack which I liked! He didn't like it so much, but I did! I had a taste off his plate. When we asked for the check, it came out quick which is great! I like the atmosphere and music. I would definitely go again and try something else on the menu!

Our service was horrible and slow. A group of 8 of us went to dinner last night. We had to ask twice for a refill of chips and still someone from our party had to get up to eventually go get the chips. Drink refills were also terribly slow and it took a long time for our food to come out. But the biggest disappointment was feeling like our waiter pulled a fast one over on us. When we arrived, he asked if we wanted cheese dip or guacamole. Since someone else in our party already had cheese dip we went with the guacamole. It wasn't like your "normal" guacamole- it was more like a salad with avocado chucks. It was okay but not good. When it came time to order, my husband and I decided to do the 2 for $20 offer. It consisted of an appetizer or dessert and 2 entrees off of a list. My taco was pretty good but my husband was very disappointed in his pork tacos and didn't even finish eating them. When our waiter finally brought the bill, he said that our guacamole wasn't eligible for the special. He apparently didn't bring us the normal guacamole but rather the "homestyle" guacamole. And it turns our that the homestyle was $9!! Ridiculous for the amount and taste. We spoke to the manager about the situation but no offers were made to remedy our waiters fast one. We will not be returning.

This place is your average Mexican restaurant. The cheese dip is really good! I usually get the fajitas! They get really busy around lunchtime but there is almost never a wait which is really nice! I do think they need to hire a few more wait staff bc they are always too busy to give really good service!

Bring your spices with you because the food is very tasteless not bad tasting but just no taste to it at all. They had live music and the volume was perfect you could enjoy the music and talk at the same time.

They don't have their drink prices on their menu so when I asked about the price of a drink my waitress was unaware and asked the manager. He told her $6.99 which she repeated to me. I decided to go ahead and get it. When my bill came, it was $10.99 because it was a big one and not a small one. When I brought it to the waitress and the managers attention, no one offered me anything other than a "sorry, that's the small drink price" and forced me to pay it despite their wrong doing. Other than that it was fine.

The food is a great value; there's the option of getting a three course meal for $10. You also get complimentary chips and salsa, which were pretty good. I thought the al pastor tacos were delicious although I did not like their starchy tortillas. The tacos were served with rice, which was surprisingly under-seasoned so I decided to mix in the filling of the al pastor tacos to make a burrito bol. The tres leches cake was huge, sweet, and cold with some parts emulating ice cream; I think I've been spoiled by Rosa Mexicano's tres leches. Frontera is more nicely decorated than most Mexican restaurants.

Wow! This was quite an experience. I came here with a friend after watching a Gwinnett Gladiators game at the arena (my first hockey game). It was a rainy night and we went in about 20 minutes before they closed. I usually get a little nervous about the type of service i'm going to get when going to a place shortly before they close. In this case, there was no need to worry. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted and seated by a very friendly staff member. Shortly after we sat down, Stefano (our server) came and greeted us. He told about the drink specials. Everything was very reasonably priced. We had a patron sunshine drink and it was pretty good, especially for the price. It had lots of ice though so you may want to ask for light ice. It came time to decide which food to eat we decided on the 2 for $20 deal. It comes with 1 appetizer, 2 entrees and a dessert to share. We had the xochitl soup. PLEASE try it. IT was delicious! When I had a spoonful and saw how delicious it was, I was excited to see what the rest of my dinner had to offer. I had the chicken quesadilla. It was a great portion, the chicken was moist and filling and the onions and veggies were flavorful. It's not like the typical skinny, quesadilla appetizer you get at some places. My friend had the steak fajitas. They came out steamy and hot with a bunch of warm tortillas. He tore it up so I assume it was good. The dinner was very filling. I had to take half home. I used a Yelp Check in deal to get a free dessert so we didn't have to share. I had the fried cheesecake. It was really good. My friend had the ice cream sundae and he enjoyed it. Stefano was a great server. He was friendly, had great suggestions and was very personable. Even though it was close to closing time, at no time did we feel rushed or dismissed. There were still several people in there when we left. They had a gentleman singing while we were there. I think his name was Tommy. He had a great voice and I enjoyed it when he played the saxophone. The decor in the restaurant was really festive The booths felt a little tight so if you are larger you may want to try a table. Overall it was great and I would recommend it.

Perhaps because I'm visiting from Los Angeles I was not impressed. There are hundreds of Mexican restaurants in SoCal, from cheap and dirty, to expensive and exclusive. This is an average Mexican restaurant, with a limited but decent menu. At least they speak Spanish :-)

This Frontera is my best friend and after work hot spot. The bar is small but just the right size. The bartender is always super nice. They have a nice little happy hour. The food is always superb, served promptly and always hot. I have never had a problem here ordering vegetarian options like other Mexican restaurants. The service is always very good. On the last visit a manager was nice enough to come by and pour our margaritas for us. I'll be a returning customer!

This place is hit or miss. The first couple times I went for Happy Hour by force with co-workers and while the drinks were good (but EXPENSIVE), the food left a lot to be desired. I am from the west coast and have a different standard of what real Mexican food is. This place was rumored to be amongst the best but I beg to differ. The best thing I've tried on the menu was the taquitos but they taste no different from the Delimex brand that's sold at Wal-Mart. I go when someone else is paying but I wouldn't patron them with my own money.

I went here for lunch and had the Chicken Burrito Al Carbon. It is a very large portion. I was pretty impressed with the taste. It seems to be a chain in the area. The food is good, the service is good (so far) but I have not been able to experience the full restaurant as I came here for lunch with co-workers. They have specials throughout the week each day. If you're looking for good Mexican food, I'd definitely take a look at this place. I will definitely have to come back and try the desserts and take advantage of the Yelp deal.

Is it just me, or does the name make this place sound like crap? I actually never wanted to go because I thought that it was some crummy wannabe Mexican restaurant (Cut me some slack-moved here not too long ago from Jersey). I stand corrected. Frontera's a pretty neat place. The staff really is nice and the free tortilla chips/salsa doesn't hurt either. Our waitress was Romanian, very sweet and understood Spanish, a plus since my boyfriend speaks very little English. Everything tasted like it had just been prepared (I know that it was, but it's the principal!). And the servings are BIG. I didn't have the room or desire for dessert afterwards, but I imagine that that's just as good. If you're ever looking for a place to go with a bunch of friends/family members for great food at a great price, try Frontera. There's something for everyone and you won't be disappointed.

NOM NOM NOM NOM!! That should be all I put on this review. They are very good, especially for a chain. They have a great variety of salsa (try the fire roasted), and have some very good deals. The ever popular "2 for 20" deal includes an appetizer, 2 full sized entrees and a dessert. This is a great deal. I HIGHLY advise you to try the Churros. They are so good!!

If you go on a weekday night, be sure to sit at the bar. Eddie is the best bartender in town. He takes care of all his customers and knows most of them by name. That is a big testament to how many people come back. Always be sure to check in on Yelp, they usually have a deal going when you do.

Service is always pretty good here. Seems like the employees are always in a good mood and are joshing around with each other having a good time when not serving. Both times I have been here the wait staff was very good. Chips and a salsa come out ASAP, drink refills come quick. One time we had fajitas. these were pretty good. Nothing amazing, but pretty good. Another time we did the combo meals. Although some of the items like the "Chalupa" were pretty mediocre. Items like the enchilada and Tamale were good and the red sauce was solid for a combo meal. Basically, we have not tried some of their more authentic Mexican food. They do have some and I suspect it is pretty good. Our first time we went there was a bachelorette party going on. The waitstaff and the girls all seemed to be having a ball. Based on this I would say this place is great for groups. Also, the horseshoe bar in front looks like a nice place fro a drink. Additionally, they also have Dos Equis Amber on draft, which gives them more street cred in my book. For a place fairly close to home that is quick and around $20 for two (without drinks) this fits the bill.

Went there for the first time with my family last night. It was decorated for Valentine's Day with a lot of tacky decorations (probably from the dollar store) which I found pretty funny! They have an awesome 2 for $20 deal - choose one appetizer, two entrees, and a dessert for $20. My sister and I chose the queso, chicken fajita quesadillas (2), and the volcan. It was way too much food for us and we both went home with leftovers! The queso was pretty good, but not spicy like I expected it to be (we ordered it with jalepenos). The quesadillas were really yummy! There was plenty of grilled chicken inside of them (which made them impossible to finish!). I would definitely get them again! My whole family was satisfied with their entrees. The service was slightly slow but they were really busy since it was a Saturday night. Next time I am craving Mexican in Suwanee/Duluth, Frontera is where I will go!

Standard, though not particularly impressive. The chips came out warm and fast, which was a plus. Two types of salsa, both passable. I had the Tacos al Carbon and my friend had the Fish Tacos. The tortillas for both were flour tortillas that tasted like they were from the supermarket. The skirt steak in my tacos were definitely of a different variety than the carne asada that usually comes in similar tacos. My friend's fish was pretty good, though, but I'm not experienced enough in authentic fish tacos to judge this properly. We had churros for dessert which were nice and warm, but again tasted like they were frozen churros which had then been heated. I also had a peach daiquiri, which distinctly had the canned-peach taste. I also give them a minus for not having horchata. All in all, acceptable if you have a Mexican food craving and are in the burbs and don't want to go too far. I wouldn't recommend it, though, especially if you've had better Mexican food before.

  • Christie K.

The worst Mexican food I've ever had. Period. The only thing I enjoyed were the free chips and salsas. The tacos I had were overly soggy and didn't have much flavor. I tried my friend's steak fajitas, which were tough and way too salty. I also took a bite out of the burrito, and it tasted like something you could get from Taco Bell. Gross. I'd much rather go to one of the other Mexican restaurants nearby (like Los Taqueros Hermanos). Pass!

Just your typical Mexican joint. Combination dinners ordered with a number. Speedy with beans, etc. Frontera does nothing to distinguish itself from the ordinary. At this location, the service was good, and they were accommodating of our larger group which included young kids. The salsa was spicy, but the food was just average.

Lots of the students that I tutor had recommended that I try Frontera, so I tried it for lunch yesterday. It was nice to see that they brought out two kinds of salsa with the chips: regular red salsa and a little chipotle number. For my lunch, I ordered the "Nachos Supremos" (or something like that) off the lunch menu, with chicken instead of beef. My boyfriend ordered the chicken taquitos. I immediately noticed that the chicken was insanely bland. In Mexican dishes, the chicken is usually poached with certain spices, but this chicken tasted very plainly like the only seasoning it had ever touched was black pepper (which you could see on the plain-white chicken). Brad agreed about the chicken in his meal. Also, the sour cream was very thin in texture and had been squirted out of a little "caulk gun" thing (like they use at Taco Bell). There was very little of it on my plate. And just in general, my whole meal felt super bland, as if no one in the kitchen had ever heard of "seasoning." By the time I had dug through my nachos to get to the cheese, for the sake of trying to find flavor, it was too late: my tongue was way too bored to continue. Also, while our waitress said and did all the right things, she consistently had a look on her face of complete depression. She frowned the whole time! I mean, she didn't even smile once; it was weird. There was absolutely nothing about either of our meals that would have made either of us ever consider returning to Frontera. There are plenty of other Mexican restaurants in the area--restaurants that understand how to season their food properly.

Typical Mexican cuisine, but it's good. You'll find nothing out of the ordinary at Frontera, but by the same token, you'll get a solid meal that consistently is flavorful and yummy. As I work right across the street, this specific location gets my business for both lunch and dinner. Packed from 12:00 until at least 1:00, if you're planning on lunching with a larger group it would behoove you do so early or late. By the same token, if you're in a hurry, don't do Frontera. (Not that they're slow, they're just THAT busy.) Dinner is great...a nice relaxing atmosphere (unless the mariachi band is there) and an awesome little patio are perfect for a Mexican meal. One warning, however...if there is an event going on The Arena at Gwinnett Center...it WILL be packed. Much like lunch, get there early or late or you won't get a table without standing in line for 30 minutes. One last bit - try the churros!! Out of this world!

Frontera is my go-to for Mexican food in Atlanta. I am surprised at the reviews so far - everyone I know loves Frontera! It is a Gwinett County staple! Frontera is casual but the food is really good for the prices! I could honestly just go and eat their amazing cheese dip for my meal! My favorite thing to order are the camarones a la diabla. I am not saying Frontera is gourmet food, but it is consistently good food that I really enjoy - especially while drinking an iced cold margarita! (the best margaritas in town!)

Best Mexican restaurant in the area by a long way. The margaritas are fantastic and the food is great. The place is really kid-friendly, so it is a perfect place to bring small kids when you want to go out to eat. The service is excellent - they make sure to get your chips and salsa to you as soon as you sit down. They have musical entertainment many nights as well.

  • James J B.

This is my goto Mexican restaurant. They have two kinds of salsa and both are fantastic. The cheese dip is the very best I've ever had. The tacos drip with orange grease - IN A GOOD WAY! They are bursting with flavor. The steak is tender and not the crazy chewy cheap skirt steak. The chicken is fresh and juicy. The re-fried beans are excellent. The charro beans are just 'meh' to be honest - I think they need to learn to slow cook them in a crock pot. They lacked any real flavor. The food arrives quickly and is piping HOT! The margaritas aren't too sweet nor too strong. They are flavorful and gave me a happy buzz vs. just making me sleepy. I think they use a higher quality Tequila. The outdoor patio is well shaded and has fans. The wait staff is from Colombia, Venezuela, Central America, and (of course) Mexico. They have genuine smiles for friendly Americans unlike some places I've been. If you're into dessert - this is your place. They have great chocolate treats. But, you must try the "Tres Leches Cake" (three milks cake). It is a white cake that is drenched with (3) types of milk (condensed, whole, and I'm not sure) Wow! Publix actually makes a decent Tres Leches but this particular Frontera dominates in that arena.

I have attempted to eat here on three different occasions; twice with my wife and once with co-workers and they have all ended in failure on behalf of this lack luster "restaurant". I put restaurant i quotes because the food is barely better then a high school cafeteria and if I had to choose between the tacos served in the cafeteria and the Taco Bell style food preparation at Frontera then I would go for the cafeteria; at least I know what I'm in for when I eat at the cafeteria. For being Mex-Mex, which is a stupid description that someone in there marketing department thought of, it fails. We get that Tex-Mex is a combination of Texas and Mexican, so is Mex-Mex Mexican Mexican? More authentic Mexican?? It doesn't make sense. I have ordered a steak burrito w/ beans, onions and rice only to get shoe leather tough skirt steak, no onions, no rice and for some reason extra steak on the side all within a fantastically dry tortilla. I imagine that it must have fallen behind the grill and the cooks didn't notice until the one time they decided to clean the kitchen. Co-workers received fish that was burnt, salads took an hour and the water was like it is in Mexico; non-potable(that means you don't drink it 'cause it hasn't been tested for bacteria). The decor is completely absent for a Mexican themed chain restaurant and I know that you have a hard time hearing this, but it's true. If they didn't have Corona banners hanging from the ceiling It could have been any other restaurant and I really hoped that it was. Bottom line is that service was alright, but the food, atmosphere and perceived value was what solidified Frontera Mex-Mex as potentially the worst "restaurant" I have eaten at in the past 5 years. To give you a great example of where I would rather eat then here is this: If I had a choice between a bar with the Hell's Angels parked outside whom were having a knife fight inside or having to eat another meal at Frontera I would go with the knife fight because at least it's more exciting. At least in my opinion...

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
