This is my favorite place to get dim sum. They even offer it in week days. The restaurant is large and is crowded on the weekend. There are plenty of parking spaces. The dim sum selection is vast, with plenty of what you would expect from a dim sum house. If you're feeling adventurous try the chicken feet. My go to item is the taro balls, or the steamed shrimp dumplings. My only negative comment is the lack of vegetable dishes.

I tried here for the first time on a Sunday for brunch/lunch with my friend. We decided last minute we wanted Dim Sum. We called Golden House to see what time they stop serving dim sum and they said 12... So we called here and the served until 2. So we deiced to try this place. It was not packed like we were used to seeing. And not as many carts rolling around. We saw about 3-4? We are not sure about the pricing although it seemed more than Golden and Canton house... We ordered the usual amount and it came out more than expected for the two of us. It seemed like they didn't have as much variety of dim sums as the other places, but they had a good amount of what we usually get. Which was nice. I liked that they served dim sum later. Although it wasn't packed inside, the outside parking lot was packed.

Friends and I decided to try this place after having gone to Golden House countless times. Safe to say, I think we'll be heading back to Golden House the next time we decided to have dim sum. We had the usual shrimp shumai, shrimp dumplings, a plate of veggies, the fried eggplant topped with shrimp, sesame red bean balls, creamy salted egg yolk bun, etc. The shrimp shumai and dumplings were alright. The eggplant had a weird after taste, sesame red bean balls could do with a little bit more filling, and CREAMY salted egg yolk bun wasn't creamy at all. Their chrysanthemum tea was good though..

I was in Atlanta for the weekend and wanted to get some dim sum with my family. We went to East Pearl Seafood as my dad claims their hot tea is super hot. I guess he likes it scorching, but it does bring out the flavors of the tea leaves. I thought the tea was hot, but I don't drink enough hot tea to know the difference between a few degrees. Hot is hot! We went on Friday around lunch time. It was not packed at all, there were about two other guests in the restaurant. This place is typically busier on the weekends, but I'm thankful that dim sum is served no matter what day of the week it is! Even on a week day they still push the carts around - I love that! We ordered shu mai, spare ribs, chicken feet, and rice noodle with shrimp. The shu mai was okay. There was nothing amazing about it. I thought the spare ribs and chicken feet was delicious. The flavors of their own individual sauces makes these dish for sure. The rice noodles was thick, which is something I"m not use to. There was a huge rice noodle to shrimp ratio. It didn't taste bad, just the portions was a bit off. Overall, if you're in the area, come and give it a try. Dim sum isn't necessarily for the weekends. They also have a menu with a variety of dishes, but I only come here for dim sum as that's my favorite!

I've said this before, and I'll say this again; if you've been to one dim sum restaurant in the Atlanta area, then you've been to them all. You sit down, carts of food are wheeled around, and you simply point to what you want if you don't speak Cantonese. The majority of dim sum fare consists of meat-filled dumplings and various derivatives thereof, you spin a Lazy Susan, you eat with chopsticks, and you drink hot tea. That's the Cliff's Notes version of dim sum, folks. That aside, East Pearl differentiates itself from other dim sum restaurants in the greater Atlanta area with its odd pairing of log cabin aesthetics and traditional Chinese adornments. East Pearl isn't the smallest dim sum restaurant, but it's far from being the largest. The restaurant is divided into two areas, one for larger parties and the other for smaller tables and booths. The brilliance of this arrangement is not lost on me; due to said division, a solo diner isn't juxtaposed against a birthday party of 12, meaning that his/her meal doesn't come with a complimentary side of shame. If you go after dim sum hours (i.e., dinner), East Pearl will certainly be less crowded. Their Green Pepper Steak and Salt/Pepper Fried Squid are among my favorites, so I fully vouch for the yum factor. Seafood is East Pearl's specialty, so you can't go wrong with those items either. Lastly, East Pearl is further distinguished from other dim sum restaurants because parking is never an ordeal. Specifically, you'll never have difficulty securing a free parking spot thanks to the adjacent Home Depot and its parking lot. Honestly, you're probably best advised to park in Home Depot's lot. Why? I've got 3 words for you: OLD ASIAN DRIVERS. You're welcome.

I only come here for their dim sum on Sunday. I try to get there around 11 or some time before noon because any time after noon, there will be a very long wait. The thing I love about this place is their consistency. Every single time I've been here, the food has been exactly the same good quality. The servers are also always around to clear our empty dishes. Also, if you love sweet tofu dishes, they have a steamed tofu dessert that's topped with this sweet gingery syrup. So good!! Whenever I'm craving dim sum, I'll come back here!

After reading some of the other reviews, I'm thinking that we may have just come at the wrong time. We weren't able to get dim sum, so we just ordered off the menu. We ordered a couple dishes--Peking duck, sizzling beef, and the salty spicy squid. The food didn't come out very hot, and you could just tell the amount of MSG overload throughout. Overall, below average Chinese. We may give them the benefit of the doubt and try one more time when they have dim sum.

Ok so I lied...I tried the lunch combo again. This time I had the General Tso's combo. The fried rice was way too oily, so that masked the flavor. The chicken was absolutely delicious. It was white meat and didn't dry out so thats even better. This time I dined with my hubby so I could try a little more. From the dim sum menu I tried the shrimp shumai, crab ball, sugar cane shrimp, and steamed bbq pork bun. All were great. The crab ball and sugar cane shrimp were pretty much the same, just one with crab and the other without. The bbq pork bun is just genius...but also filling. I'd have to somewhat agree with my first review. I'd definitely come again and get the dim sum. I'd pass on the lunch combo.

I come here only for dim sum and this place remains my favorite dim sum restaurant although Royal China is really good too. Just take a seat, order a pot of chrysanthemum tea and the dim sum ladies will push the food cart to you in no time. Sometimes I feel pressured to order because the dim sum ladies are really persistent. I'm not sure if there's a quota they have to meet but in any case, pace yourselves. I like the pork and shrimp shumai, beef tripe, rice crepes with shrimp and bbq pork (ask them for fried shallots to sprinkle on top), pork congee with fried dough on top, shrimp balls with crispy noodles, steamed custard bao, sticky rice wrapped in grape leaves, fried taro bun, and basically everything (since I just named almost the entire dim sum menu). I also tried their ginger & onion lobster and peking duck. Skip this.

This place is pretty good for dim sum. My friends and I always go here when we're craving some good dim sum. I guess we're partial to this place because there's Asian grocery stores near by along with good Asian bakeries and snack stops. The prices here are in line with other dim sum places. If you go here around 10 ish, you would most definitely beat the weekend family crowd. Parking is spacious, not like the Canton House in Buford. The only thing about going to this place in the early morning is how cold it is inside. It gets quite chilly.

One of my go-to dim sum places. They are located right in front of a Home Depot. They serve dim sum daily during lunch hours. Best time to go is around 11am to noon. Sure it's busy, but the food is constantly being refilled and fresher. Despite it being busy, I've never had to wait more than 10 to 15 minutes, even on a Sunday. I find them much cleaner than some other places. Service can be spotty but it's typical Asian service so expect to have to wave down servers. There's no faux pas about it so just holler or wave at any of the servers if you need refills or anything. I find the food comparable and sometimes better than some of the more well known places like Canton House. The steamed pork buns here are absolutely delicious. The shu mai is huge and full of flavor. My favorite flat noodles with shrimp dish is also very good here. They also have deep fried lobster balls (heh) that I basically just inhale it's so good. Egg custards here aren't my favorite. They do charge for hot tea ($1/refill). Prices are average, expect to spend $15-$20 per person and be absolutely stuffed.

A friend introduced my husband and I to this place when we wanted to go get dim sum. We have a favorite place to go but it's kind of far from where we live now. So we decided to give this place a chance....and we're glad we came here. Plus, it's a lot closer to home then the other place (also, we notice the score of the other place was getting lower and lower...so...yea..). The dim sum food were flavorful and had a good variety. The only thing we were disappointed about was our congee (porridge) being on the bland side. We definitely will come back here again whenever we are craving for some dim sum.

My personal favorite Dim Sum in the Atlanta area. Usually very busy on a Sunday and even when I have had to wait for a table they never keep you waiting for a cart filled with delicious options. The authentic Cantonese dishes are right on point to me and compared to others I have frequented that tend to be a little on the salty side.. Several different carts make their way around the restaurant and the staff is extremely friendly. The large assortment of different dim sum selections is all encompassing and if they don't have what you wanted on the cart there is no need to fear they will be back or will have you point to an the other options from a picture menu. Beyond the Din Sum option they have a great dinner menu and are sometimes open late. (The hours seem to randomly change during the week.) I personally enjoy the Hot Pots and the pan fried noodle dish. They also have a pretty rocking selection of fresh seafood you can chose from the tanks. Overall this place is a winner!

I've been here about 3 or 4 times and have enjoyed it. Food is fresh and the service is excellent. We go for the dim sum. Nice family atmosphere and good place to bring your coworker or friends. It's busy during peak time but they get you in there pretty quick. Will return.

came here on Sunday with a group of 7 adults and 2 kids for my birthday dim sum brunch. We arrived at 11 and the restaurant was eerily quiet - which in and of itself is a good and bad thing. Good: we get first picks of the dim sum carts and bad because the restaurant is just now gearing up to roll out more dim sum since it wouldn't be profitable to rush them out of the oven and steam baskets if there are only 5 tables filled in the whole restaurant. With no wait or reservation for that matter, we were seated quickly. Maybe I have been so used to the dim sum at Canton House, but I could not stop comparing everything to it so keep that in mind when reading this review. We started off with a bowl of rice soup (congee). It was a bit bland for me, with little to no seasoning or protein for that matter. At least at Canton House you can add chicken to it. But it was a decent starter on a cool December day. The next few rounds were: shrimp noodles, egg tarts, "footballs", crab balls, shrimp balls (1 with sugar cane and 1 with the crunchy fried crispies), strawberry jello and an assortment of dumplings: shark fin, shu mai etc. We also ordered a plate of the salt / pepper calamari. This is a smaller plate than the dinner portion, but it is also only about $5 as well. The food was adequate, however, they put cinnamon of all things in with their football so I am definitely not a fan of that. Also, their bbq pork buns are filled with the smallest bit of bbq pork this yelper has ever seen.... err... not seen in this situation. The service was pretty good, although our groups' water went empty about twice during our meal. the dim sum was ok, however, I think it was lacking a bit of variety and some of the flavors were very different from my previous dim sum experiences.

I think Dim Sum in Atlanta wise, this place is a winner. Their dim sum dishes are just... tastier. Also, I go with my family a lot to eat dinner, as they have good authentic Cantonese dishes. Recommended dishes for dinner (not dim sum): Salted fish and eggplant in clay pot, the Lobster, Calamari. (Sorry, I don't know their official English names as I always order in Chinese!).

After hearing some recommendations for their Dim Sum, I was excited to finally gather a small group together to give this place a try! I found most of the dishes we ordered to be pretty salty. I also don't think anything jumped out at me as being a really great Dim Sum dish. My final verdict is this: the restaurant is in Duluth, about 15 minutes from some of the more popular Dim Sum restaurants on Buford Hwy....if you're on that side of town and lazy about the drive, East Pearl is a decent substitute. Otherwise, I wouldn't drive out of my way for their food.

East Pearl seafood restaurant was truly a disappointment. Came here for lunch today and the food was beyond sub par, it was disgusting!! Ordered the chicken in garlic sauce which came with a choice of soup. The soup was cold and the chicken was some kinda Mystery meat(check my photos). My mother had some shitty fish that she couldn't finish!! I would avoid this place like the plague

Dim sum served at lunch too. But don't to forget to order from al a carte menu. Lunch specials are a great deal too. Does not steer away too much from traditional Chinese food.

so bad service. I ordered dim sum for to go. I have to waiting over 30mins!! I ask the host, she told me everything need steam, but somebody who was sitting in the dinning did not need wait, even though they came in later than me! They not even give me chopstick. The food is so so, but service is horrible!!!

First time to this restaurant. Been a long time fan of dim sum. This place happened to be close to where I was staying so I gave it a try. In short, I was glad that I did. They had a good selection of items and all were served hot. (Nothing sader than luke warm dim sum). Some dishes were better than others, but overall quality was good. Service was excellent, though it wasn't busy when we arrived. A pleasant surprise to find in Duluth.

Yayy another dim sum I can dine at! It's not as great as Canton House, my main Dim Sum place, but it isn't bad at all. I think this place has more options than Canton, but not really quite sure. I got the pork shumai, shrimp dumplings, steamed sticky rice in banana leaves, Bbq Pork Buns, Red Bean Sesame Ball, and a few others that I can't really recall. Everything was great, not really anything to complain about. Service was attentive, she brought out everything we requested. I gave this place 3 stars because this is my first time here and it was on a Monday, so it wasn't busy at all. Which meant more options for me =) not a bad place to try...

This place used to be one of my favorite sunday spot for Dim Sum, not anymore. The last time I was there, I got the beef tendon and it smells awful, had to send it back. YUCK. They have a pretty decent Peking Duck with steamed buns, green onions and cucumbers... I haven't ordered that in awhile. I'm hoping that they still keep up with this because it's the only thing I'll be coming back for.

We tried the dinner menu the first time we went, and was wonderfully surprised. The salted fish and something(can't remember!!T.T) hot pot was fantastic. The salt and pepper squid was lovely, nice and crisp and flavorful. It made us nostalgic for Hong Kong. It has been awhile since that night, so I honestly don't remember fully what we got, but the meal was really good. We went back for Dim Sum and really enjoyed that as well. More than our usual place Oriental Pearl. We will definitely be back for both dinner and Dim Sum.

What a Chinese-colored building, I thought, as we pulled into the parking lot for dinner. I wasn't sure what to expect because I hear there aren't many authentic Chinese places in Atlanta. But it definitely didn't pale in comparison to some of the Chinese food in New York. They had an interesting complimentary pickled dish in the beginning that's still a bit mysterious to me. But I enjoyed everything.

I've been to most of the other dim sum places in Atlanta (Canton House, Royal China, etc) and East Pearl is one of the better ones. I went on a Sat around 12pm and it wasn't very crowded at all but there were still a good selection of items. I think because it's so far away from the Buford hustle and bustle a lot fewer people come here. I am still not sure which is the best dim sum in Atlanta, since the quality of many places can be inconsistent but I would recommend giving East Pearl a try. They have certain things here that I haven't seen at other places as much, like fried dough wrapped in steamed noodles (you tiao cheung fun) and sweet white steamed cake (bak tong go) which are some of my favorites and were pretty decent. However their baked bbq pork buns (char siu bao) were worse than most places the dough was very dense and a little stale and very little bbq pork filling, so don't get that here. And the tea is pretty tasteless as well. Compared to Royal China and Canton House (my other regular places), overall this one is pretty comparable or maybe not as good based on certain items but it has different kinds of dim sum you might not see at the other places. Would go again if I'm in the area. As a disclaimer, I've had some really amazing dim sum in San Gabriel Valley (lots of love for SGV) in California and in Hong Kong so my standards are pretty high.

There's a reason why this is one of best rated Chinese restaurant in ATL. The food is authentic as you can get. I been here multiple times for both Dim Sum and Dinner. The food is always consistent, the services is always friendly, and prices are BEYOND belief!!! You can 2 fresh Maine lobsters any way you want for $20!!! I'm sorry but not sorry, Red Lobster ain't got nothing on this place!!! With out a question this is my favorite Chinese in the ATL area, and I think if you give this place a shot, it'll become your favorite too!!!

One of my favorite places for dim sum! They have the best chicken feet and tripe! They are also one of the few places that has the Portuguese egg-tarts, be sure to give this gem a try if you've never had it before. It's bigger than the normal egg-tarts, and you can actually taste/see the egg texture!

    (4)
  • David S.

Me and a group of friends decided to go here to try their dim sum today. It was very crowded and when I left, there were lines of people waiting to get a seat. I got the normal shu mai, dumplings, congee, and beef I usually get at dim sum places. It took them 40 minutes to get four food carts to our table. They did not even bother giving us drinks, we had to wave them over a few times for them to get what we needed. The congee tasted really good, but other than that the other dishes were not anything to savor. May consider going back to give their dinner options a try.

Dim sum in Atlanta is not the best tasting or most authentic. East pearl is one of the better Dim Sum places in Atlanta but it's still a far away from the more authentic places in other cities. Like any dim sum place lunch they have the push karts with various dishes. Some of the ones I get often are the shrimp dumplings and the turnip cakes. The dumplings taste ok but they all taste like they've been frozen and reheated. The turnip cakes are better than other dim sum places and taste cripsy. They also have the Portuguese egg tart which is a bigger and tastier version of a normal egg tart. Price wise you will normally spend between 10 to 15 dollars a person which isn't too bad. Food is adequate, I personally like the dinner offerings as well, it's overall a better than average but not enough to be that exceptional.

I've had dim sum at several places outside of Atlanta, and was sadly disappointed by my experience at East Pearl after reading all the rave reviews. The staff were not incredibly helpful in describing what was what, and the only menu provided for reference was just pictures on a page. The food was completely bland - shrimp, scallops, bbq pork, chicken feet, everything. Needless to say, we won't be going back.

    (2)
  • Kim D.

I only go here because it is right in between me and my friend spot. The food here is good but I prefer Canton house. My complaint about this spot is that it seem to be very congested and somehow I always sit by a leaky air conditioning vent - oh and there rice shrimp rolls are 'meh'.

  • Jeff P.

The dim-sum here is out of this world, and I agree with the others who say it is as good as (and often better than) BuHwy favorite Canton House. Definitely worth a drive to Gwinnett.

After we left the Atlanta area for Orlando, East Pearl soon became the go-to dim sum place, especially north of the perimeter. So when we arrived just after 1:30 2 weeks ago for a visit in the area, this was our logical lunch spot. O Paul, what a falling-off was there! Hyperion to a satyr. Really, not to be overly dramatic, this recent return engagement, while not tragic in proportions, was nonetheless a hefty let-down. The fact that it was only half full on a Sunday should have been a warning. And to be sure, things weren't horrid (with the exception of the siu-mai, which even a hungry Abominable Snowman wouldn't want to eat). They are just not even up to the standard of some Orlando establishments. We found out afterwards from friends - yeah, they changed chefs. It showed.

  • Winston G.

Pretty solid dim sum option in the Duluth area - right off 85. The selections are very plentiful and pretty tasty. Probably one of the better places I've been to. Right now they are doing a lobster special - 2 lobsters for $20. I would go if I were you.

This is a where I take the family for week-end dim-sum. Its a routine and I think the quality has slipped a little. There are other places in ATL but this is prolly the better one. First of all, for decent dim-sum, you need to be here around 10am-1:15pm on a weekend. This is when the variety and freshness is at the best. Come any other time and you may not get the dish you want or it won;t be as fresh. Once again, if you come at any other time, its your own fault. If you like chinese tea, you can bring your own oolong and they will brew a pot for you.

Hmm.. we had an average experience here for Saturday Brunch the day before Mother's Day. We came early (11am) to beat any crowds which was good since we didn't want to have to wait for a table but then I realized the downfall of our strategy...the lack of selection.. I think in an attempt to save money, the restaurant only prepares a select number of dim sum dishes until the place fills up. My dad didn't get his favorite pork dish and I noticed a number of dishes they usually offer wasn't available in the carts. Otherwise, I highly recommend this place to newbies to dim sum because they have a wealth of pictures of each dish so you can see what each dish is called. I think they are realizing that they need to cater to non-Chinese speaking customers which is a good move on their part. My favorite dish is the mini shrimp thing in yellow wrapping and the yellow egg custard pastries =D.

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE AT ALL. Me and my boyfriend have been here before and the place was decent BEFORE. But on Feb 16, 2012 the service just went downhill from there.... We had only ordered three things from the cart and waited 45 minutes for someone just to walk around checking on customers. And what were they doing during that time? Eating their lunches right in front of us, knowing that we are waiting for dim sum. The service here is just vaguely terrible, if you are not chinese (and not to be racist or anything) then dont bother coming in. They only seem to cater to chinese people and not other minorities. Me and my boyfriend are Korean and we were very discriminated there. We had a chinese couple next to us and they were serviced in 5 minutes while we had to wait 45 minutes. On top of that, we decided just to leave and went up to the front desk to "maybe" pay for only three things worth $12. We stated that we waited 45 minutes for service and the supposed manager claimed "he did not care if service was bad, still pay." The young chinese guy started to become rude with us (and cursing us out) and barely spoke english. It even got to the point where he almost threw a punch at my boyfriend by slamming the phone down and flinching at my boyfriend. Basically, they just kicked us out and made us pay for something that was not even worth the money. That's where your skepticism starts to kick in on how this business is really ran. I am not trying to be bias or racist but I felt very disrespectful when I was there. I work in a business where the customer always comes first and this was not the place where customers came first. If your chinese here then you come first. If you are not chinese you come last. I'm sorry, but that is the truth about this place. I WOULD REALLY NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO FIRST COMERS OR RECENT MINORITY CUSTOMERS OR YOU MIGHT JUST GET A PUNCH TO YOUR FACE FROM ONE OF THEM, just saying.

Love Dim Sum and East Pearl is where I go to get it. Its a bit of a drive, especially if you live ITP. But the food is consistently good and fresh. I usually go on Sundays between 10am and 12pm. By 12:30-1 they start to trail service off, so its best to get there earlier. It's also very affordable. They wait staff is friendly and always willing to explain to me what something is, as I'm usually the only non-Asian person there. lol. If you are debating the drive out here, I would say pair it with a trip to the Gwinnett International Farmers Market next door for some awesome produce and other international foods at insanely low prices to make the trip worthwhile!

Really a 3.5. Tried East Pearl twice now and have a feel for them. They are located on Shackleford down the street from the original Bass Pro Warehouse in an area where it seems like a large Asian influence has migrated from Buford Hwy. The restaurant was clean and nicely decorated with a good fish tank viewing area (bonus for the kids). We were seated promptly even though it was crowded the 2nd time. Service was quick and acceptable including our tea & water refills. Food was what you expect from Atl area dim sum places - some dishes slightly better than others, some dishes not as good as other places. I will say it was all hot (big bonus for dim sum) and nothing was overly bad. Probably the additional 1/2 star for me was they seemed to be slightly cheaper as a whole than Canton House or Oriental Pearl. Plus I like the general area better than the places on Buford Hwy... Nice experience overall and will visit them again

Being from the San Francisco Bay Area, we cherish good dim sum and good service. Our waitress was warm, welcoming and helpful. Don't we love Dim sum at dinnertime! I'm not a fan of TV sets in restaurants... I knocked off one star for TV. Food: ***** Service: ***** Atmosphere: ***

The dim sum is pretty good here, I felt it's not frozen or aged food, I would know since I have allergy to non-fresh shrimp. I wasn't expected too much when getting in, but in fact I like their dim sum, not much over the entree, maybe just because we aren't order the right things. Overall, the food is 3 stars, 1 additional stars for a proper service.

Recently I read a remark about another establishment that rated their dim sum "the best in Atlanta," although diners should not be disappointed if it were not as good as that which is found in San Francisco, Vancouver, New York or Boston. Well, I am from Massachusetts and have eaten dim sum in Boston's Chinatown very often. I have lived in Japan and my husband is from Kobe. I have enjoyed *real* dim sum. I must say that East Pearl Seafood compares very favorably with other Chinese restaurant cuisine I have enjoyed. Talk about being a kid in a candy shop. It was very difficult not to make more choices than we did. I must confess that our eyes were bigger than our stomachs, but both our taste buds and our stomachs were entirely delighted. Service was excellent, the staff efficient and pleasant. There are two things I always use to judge whether I want to eat in a "Chinese" restaurant and the quality of the hot tea, and the number of Chinese eating there. East Pearl scored very high marks on both accounts. Living quite a distance North and East of Atlanta, I don't relish having to go into the city for a *any* reason. To find a very, very good dim sum tea house to the North of Atlanta is like finding a rich gold mine. We will definitely be back again.

We come here for dim sum every time we're in town, and here we are again. This place still hasn't skipped a beat. This is probably one of the better dim sum places in town. All the dim sum has the same consistence every time, server come around with their push cart and you pick out what ever your heart desired. Server was courteous, price is decent and food was excellent. What else can you ask for?

Recently took the family here for dim sum on a weekday with high expectations based on the reviews. We were seated right away, but did not get served after 10 mins until I had to call a passing waitress to get service. We then had to wait another 10 mins until one of only dim sum two carts for the entire restaurant passed by our table. To make matters worst, it appears there was only one waitress pushing the carts, so there's always one cart idling by with the food getting cold while the one waitress pushes the other cart around. The dim sum selection was limited. The only saving factor for not getting only one star is that the dim sum was pretty tasty. We ended up cutting our losses & I just went up to the cashier to pay for our meager dim sum meal because we didn't want to wait another 10 mins to get our check from the inattentive staff.

I was pleasantly surprised by this place. There is another decent option for dim sum around here. We came on a Saturday at around 1pm. They still had plenty of steamy hot dim sum. They had the typical dim sum stuff that you'd find in any dim sum restaurants. Everything we had tasted like they came straight from the kitchen. They place would probably be packed if it was closer to Buford Highway. For around here, it's a 4 star dim sum restaurant. It'd be 3 star in the Bay area.

Quickly becoming our favorite in the metro area. We call it "the log cabin place". Nothing against Canton House or Royal China but i feel that I'm seeing new dishes at EPS or at least a new take on the old varieties. The Roast Pork is multi-dish favorite and often is brought home for snaking on the rest of the day. It's a bit of a hike from Roswell but it's been worth the trip every time, even if it does get a bit crowded on the weekends. Try to get there before noon, otherwise you'll have a wait. With that being said, it's never been longer then 20 min.

Atlanta DimSum is a plentiful but sordid affair, with few restaurants coming close to what DimSum ought to be like. This restaurant is a little better than most, at least when it opened (haven't been back for about 6 months -- distance). DimSum, like Tapas, is all about having punchy, distinct tastes from freshly prepared dishes. Could be fresher, could be punchier; but solid. I would give E. Pearl a 3 in NYC and SF and LA... 2+ in Toronto. But with the relative lack of good Dimsum in ATL, it gets a 4. :)

C'mon guys, we can do better than this. Seriously. I'll give it to them that they do some items pretty well, but they do a lot of them really poorly. On the other hand, I don't think I've had more attentive water refillings at many dim sum places (the cart service sucked it), but I don't necessarily mean that as a compliment, because the worst dim sum I've ever had, in Phoenix, also had the best service. That's how really bad places make up for it. But at least that place in Phoenix had a good atmosphere. This looks like some sort of old steakhouse that did absolutely zero remodeling. They've jammed large, family-style tables in the large room, but those same tables in the smaller room. If you get the smaller room, just leave, or wait for a table in the large room because, 1. you won't get good cart service, 2. people will bang into you because there's just not enough room, 3. you're right up against the fish tanks, which have a funky smell to them. And it's really not that cheap either. Two of us came up to $29. For $29, I would expect it to either be fan-f'in-tastic or that I would have to be rolled out. Neither was the case. But, again, the food sucks. Steamed barbecue pork bun gets a 1/5 for being obviously microwaved, qin cai gets a 2/5 for being extra slimy with an uninspired brown sauce, shrimp and pork dumplings gets a 0/5 for being served COLD and with the only hint of shrimp in the funky, fishy taste. I guess I blame myself for bothering with dim sum in Atlanta. Maybe the Chinese in the city are just settling for this, because there were quite a few in there and the place had a line by the time we started getting food. If you like dim sum though, as in good dim sum, then you need to skip this one. If you've never had dim sum and want to "experiment," then this may be good for you. This was bad to the point that I'm now craving it, just because I was so unsatisfied by the experience. 2* for the water refillers. Good job, guys!

Dim Sum was good here, but I still prefer Royal China for dimsum We also order PeKing Duck along with dimsum, it's probably one of few places to get Peking duck (w/o calling ahead). The duck is not original PeKing style duck, it's more like roast duck but still very yummy.

I know many people have been saying that Golden House is the better dim sum place. I have to disagree. I have been to both several times, and I just don't see the quality of food at Golden House. East Pearl is still my go to dim sum place in Duluth. I love their pineapple buns with custard on the inside. Always fresh out of the oven is the best. The regular menu food is ok, not as good as their dim sum, but still good.

Dim sum is the Cantonese term for a type of Chinese dish that involves small individual portions of food, usually served in a small steamer basket or on a small plate. (Wiki) Come to East Pearl early because they do run out of items around 1pm from their lunch rush. The seafood is very fresh and you can even go to the front to see the tanks of live seafood. This place is great for groups because then you can get a wide assortment of food to see what you like. Very traditional food and a somewhat friendly staff. Really enjoyed our meal/feast and plan on going back soon.

More than just Dim Sum. We go there for dinner regularly. Their Lo Mein noodles appear to be freshly made, but even if they are not they are the freshest tasting we've had so far. I love the salt and pepper port ribs and the Beef Cube Asian Style, but the Bamboo Forest and the Five Treasure Duck are absolutely fantastic. We go for early dinner when they are not so busy and they are very nice to our kids.

Have to knock a star off for my latest dim sum experience at East Pearl. They've slipped. -- Woo Gok (fried mashed taro dumplings with minced pork filling) -- Way over-fried and super greasy. My husband loves this dish and he could only eat 1 of the 3. -- Seen juk guen (bean curd wrapped pork rolls with gravy) -- The sauce was congealed on the rolls like two globs of glue. Really unappetizing. Everything else -- unremarkable. My vote is now for Oriental Pearl as the dim sum place to go to in Atlanta, even though it's a much longer drive for us.

First time, shot for the moon and had the Hong Kong style crab. Holy $&@! it was ridiculously good, that's not even doing it justice. Seriously I want to eat my fingers right now just for the memories.

I had never had Dim Sum, before. This was another tour o' ethnic foods, and I enjoyed it. Not as much as some of my other experiences, but it is still tasty. I can't even begin to tell you what to try, because I have NO idea what it was I ate!! Definitely go with a group of people, where everyone can get different things and you can all share. Additionally, please go with someone who knows what the things are, and can tell you what to try based on what they look like. You may get a delicious Pork Dish, or it may be Octopus Tentacle glazed with honey. Knowledge is power at Dim Sum!

This is a solid dim sum restaurant. If I were to rate the food only it would be the best in Atlanta (i've been to mutiple dim dum places in Atlanta). Their service leaves something to be desired, you really want to go around 11 or 11:30 for the best selection and the best possible service. Some of the items are too big for dim sum which should be about variety and quality. Granted, this is not Sun Shi Wah in Vancouver or other famous dim sum establishments across the world, but for Atlanta it is about as good as it gets.

I've been to a couple of dim sum places here in the Atlanta area. This one is pretty good. The selection of items from the dim sum cart were great. Also ordered salt and pepper pork spare ribs, seafood combo pan fried noodles, and the BBQ duck which were good as well. The reason for the 4 stars is because they were VERY short handed during lunch hours. If we did grab anything from the cart we would of starved. It took about 30min. before we received our food. I saw 2 parties walk out due to the wait. Other than that this place is at the top of my list.

Dim Sum in Atlanta seems to be hit or miss, I think in part because the cooks rotate. That aside, East Pearl has been the most consistent overall. Go when it's busy on the weekends so the kitchen is pumping out dishes. Service is good considering the size of the place. I agree with others: if you come at an off time you'll probably be eating left overs from the earlier rush.

As of yet, this is the best dim sum restaurant in Atlanta that I have found. I have been to almost every dim sum place on Buford Highway, and to me East Pearl is far superior. Also, very importantly, it is CLEAN. Don't get me wrong, I favor "Hole-in-the wall" places generally speaking....but some of the dim sum places on Buford Hwy are flat out disgusting. Sometimes the meat inside of dumplings can be a little "strange" at dim sum places, but not here. By no means am I an expert, but I have had the luck of eating Dim Sum in Hong Kong and Singapore...as well as other major Chinese population centers such as NYC, Tokyo, LA, and SF. I will tell you East Pearl takes a back seat to almost none of these cities (except HK and SG of course!!) Be sure to try their different types of Siu Mai, and their Porridge (Jook/Congee)!!!

Went here for dim sum on Sunday around 12ish. They were only seating in one of the rooms, but by the time we left, they had opened the other side up. Lots and lots of Asian faces in the house. So my sister totally thinks they have a better selection than my current favorite, Royal China, but I don't know if I agree. If anything, they had a few different options, but selection is good either way. Our dim sum was consistently tasty and hot. Big plus. The baked bbq pork buns....hello? I die. So yummy. I've had better, fresher tasting tripe though, and that was not a plus. We had a full table of yummy treats, and left like stuffed pigs. The carts circulate with good frequency, but the ladies don't do a good job of showing off their wares. Several times we had to ask for things that were right there on the cart. The carts pushers aren't pushy....sometimes you have to call them over, which, being a greedy beast, I don't like. I want them to frequently check in....even as my pants have split open and I'm in a food coma. This place is a wee bit far for me, which would maybe limit future returns, but it was quite yummy and if they were not soooooo far up 85, I'd probably put them in heavy rotation. Service was friendly too....even to the messy six year old. I like that.

Food(7.5/10)=East Pearl seems to be the best dim sum Atlanta has to offer. This observation is based on the first three Yelp reviews, word of mouth among Atlanta's Chinese community, and through my own experience. Given the distance from the coast, the seafood in Atlanta won't be as fresh as what you will find in Boston, San Francisco, New York, or Toronto. That said, a lot of the Atlanta dim sum with seafood ingredients suffer in quality. However, East Pearl does a good job (not great), with the resources they have to work with. East Pearl uses the freshest (relatively speaking) and cleanest ingredients compared to other Atlanta dim sum places such as Royal China, Canton House, China Delight, and Happy Valley. East Pearl also offers a larger assortment of dim sum compared to its competitors. The dinner menu serves up great Hong Kong/Cantonese cuisine. Although I personally wouldn't order any seafood dishes from any restaurant in Atlanta (I just wouldn't appreciate it with my spoiled tongue), one should note the variety of seafood dishes East Pearl has to offer. One of my favorite Cantonese dishes is "bai fan yu xiao cao" ("sauteed mini silver fish, dried squid, and chinese celery") and East Pearl prepares it exceptionally well. East Pearl's Peking Duck is also one of the best you will find in Atlanta. The restaurant stays true to their Cantonese/Hong Kong style by serving this dish with steamed buns instead of the traditional pancakes. When ordering this dish, tell the waiter/waitress to serve the duck in "2 ways" or "2 courses." By doing so, the chefs will prepare an extra dish using the duck meat (the second course), after serving the duck with the steamed buns/hoisin sauce/green onions/cucumber (the first course). ***check out my uploaded pics of the dishes*** Ambiance(8.0/10)=The outside and interior of the restaurant strays away from the usual Chinese restaurant set up. The bright golden yellow colors throughout the restaurant gives the place a clean yet strange feeling of not being in a Chinese restaurant (Maybe I'm just used to the dirtier stuff). The wood ceiling, exposed ventilation pipes, and the house-like appearance of the restaurant from the outside (take a look at the picture I uploaded; also note the chimney), further adds to my feelings of not being in a Chinese restaurant while dining at East Pearl. Nevertheless, the decor and feel is exceptionally clean, as well as "new" and fresh. Service(8.0/10)=My experience at East Pearl has always been very good. So why didn't I award East Pearl with a higher score than 8.0? Well, one of my good friend's family owns the restaurant, and almost everytime I visited East Pearl, I was with my friend. Thus my experience is biased. I am comfortable giving 8.0 points versus my usual 7.0 (a score I give for basic/standard servicee) because during my most recent visit, I took note on how fast and attentive the staff were to every guest in the restaurant. Overall opinion=East Pearl serves delicious and clean traditional Cantonese/Hong Kong cuisine. If someone asked me where he/she should go for dim sum in Atlanta, I would confidently answer "East Pearl." I would also inform them that it would not compare to the dim sum in Toronto/San Francisco/Boston/New York. Like the previous reviewers, four Yelp stars in terms of Atlanta, but only three Yelp stars compared to everywhere else.

The variety of food was pretty good, and it's an ideal place for large groups. There was quite a selection of dim sum, even on a Saturday morning. Also, unlike many dim sum places, it was relatively quiet and calm.

mehs. bigger doesn't mean better. The only thing here that was good, was the Chang Fen...which is the shrimp that's in a rice wrapper (it's long) ..this gets 5 stars, the best i've ever had. You order it and they make it fresh and bring it out to you. It was the perfect consistency, slippery and smooth. I"ve had too much bad Chang Fen in the past (ie breaks apart in ur mouth or too thick). Everything else was just so-so. Came at noon on a Saturday and most of the food was sort of cold. The Har-kow, shrimp dumplings were big, and these were okay. I mean dim sum is supposed to be very delicate. Delicate wrappers with very delicate tastes. So..i think if you make stuff big for dim sum it just takes away from the whole experience. It's supposed to be like a snack that you have while you drink tea, not a full on meal. I guess this is a culture thing. In china, people go to dim sum to chat with friends, not stuff your face. Pan fried turnip cake was BLAH. Cold, and tasteless. Same goes for the congee. Service was decent. They have a good number of carts...there's a Tofu Hua cart which is kinda cool and different. Sorry people, this is a very lackluster review bc that's how i felt about it. It wasn't good, and it wasn't bad...but I probably won't ever be going back.

I was a huge fan of the dim sum here when it first opened. They had big and tasty pieces of dim sum, particularly the steamed shrimp dumplings and pork shumai. Their dim sum pieces were much bigger than any of the buford hwy restaurants' dim sum. Also, their prices were very reasonable compared to other places. However, all good things come to an end for one reason or another. My reason was because of the flavor, or lack of flavor. There was less and less flavor/seasoning to the dim sum each time I went there. Yes, I know there is soy sauce and hot red pepper oil you can dip your dim sum in. However, there is just so much soy sauce and hot pepper oil you can use. Soy sauce and hot pepper are not meant to give flavor to the dumpling, they are there for added support. The dumplings should have good flavor on their own, which these do not. So sad! Anyway, I no longer to go East Pearl for dim sum anymore. I have settled for Canton House on Buford Hwy because it's closer and they have a great shrimp and leek dumpling that's super flavorful. I'm still waiting for that one dim sum place to blow my taste buds away.

One of the best dim sum place in North GA instead of having to drive down to Buford Hwy since I live up North. We usually get the same thing every time which is har gau, tripe, sticky rice, shu mai, pork ribs?, the clear noodle with soy sauce (don't know what it's really call), crab claw if they have it and also the shrimp on sugar cane. Don't order the the salt and pepper squid since it taste best when fresh and not sitting on the cart for awhile. The service is pretty good conside the place is always pack and there's a wait for a table.

I travel to LA for my job on a ragular basis and have really good Chinese there all the time. I took a group of freinds (6 adults, including my wife and I, and 2 kids) to East Pearl to have diner. The food was really good and fresh. The Peking Duck was excelent but the second dish for it (wich costs an extra $4) was not very good. I'm used to them taking the meat and choping it with vegitables and stirfrying it. It would then be served with lettuce leaves. For this dish the meat was still with the bone, and it was difficult to eat. They don not take AMEX here (one reason for not giving 5 stars). The wait staff has somewhat of a difficult time to speak and understand English (a big reason why it didn't get higher marks). My wife had a difficult time getting silverware. I felt that the food was slightly over priced; this was the other reason for not giving it more stars. Our group's bill was $124 for 5 beers, 6 dishes (including the 2 of duck), and soup. The cost of seafod for them is probably higher than it is in LA. Overall I can confidently say it was 3.5 to 4 stars.

They have all the varieties on a typical dim sum restaurant, some of which is made to order e.g. cheong fun etc. Be there before noon if you don't want to get into line, and get more company with you as a larger group normally doesn't need to get into line... We saw couple of families without reservation were seated while the rest of us waited in line... Food quality was inconsistent though, my last visit - the har kow was over cooked. It took us a while before we could get the har kow and some other food.....

Best dim sum in Atlanta that I've found, and I'm from California. I've tried Royal China, China Delight, and the heelstain that is Happy Valley. East Pearl beats them all on taste, consistency, decor, cleanliness, variety of food (staples + new things), and pacing of the food.

I have probably averaged a visit here once every two months since I arrived in Atlanta, and aside from the odd blip here and there, it's still the first place I think of when I want dim sum while living in this city, (and I've been to pretty much all the usual suspects on Buford Hwy and its neighbors). If there are dim sum portion-sized dishes of clams in black bean sauce the day you're there, grab it. They're good.

Atlanta's Dim sum restaurants are notoriously inconsistent and finding a reliable spot can be difficult. East Pearl is a beacon of light for those cart-fiends looking to get their dumpling fix. Have faith in anything with shrimp or barbecued pork, which is chopped to order in the open kitchen. Try their sugary and egg-y Chinese doughnuts if you need to get your sugar fix.

First off, the directions are wrong using mapquest. I would give you the right directions but I can't remember the street names and I don't want to put anyone in a worse predicament. Anyway, visited this place and was SOOOO excited cause I love dimsum and haven't had it in over a year. I definately quenched my craving of shrimp dumplings available in many varieties of steaming. Had my taro fix too. I also ordered my favorite - and they were cooked to order fresh. I can't remember the name of it but it's a flat white dumpling-like item with shrimp and they squeeze a little sweet soy sauce over it. Delicious is all I can say. I love this place and can't wait to return. The only thing that was dissapointing was the small spareribs. could have been cooked a bit longer. You have to also get the sweet pastries too. Many people by pass dessert and they shouldn't! I didn't get the seafood soup but my friends did and they loved it. Also, they ordered the chicken feet - which I was about to try but then I picked it up and it was literally A FOOT...which i couldn't stomach. But if you're into chicken feet - based on 3 of my friends, it's pretty good but a little larger than usual. which made me wonder what we're feeding them to have feet that are almost as big as mine....hhhmmm...
