It was Saturday night and we were seated immediately, but then waited for someone-anyone to take our drink order. Waited so long we eventually had to flag a waiter down and it was barely busy. We immediately ordered drinks and an appetizer. I never received my drink so had to request again and never received our appetizer. Once the service was sort of straightened out, we ordered the meatloaf burger and the snapper. Both were just meh. Over-salted and overcooked, the flavors didn't stand out. In a town with so many great dining options, this place was very disappointing.

This is my new go to neighborhood spot! I had flash fried chicken wings as an appetizer; delicious. For my main dish I had the duck with coconut rice and mango. Everything was very good! The staff was very friendly and our waitress was great. I look forward to coming back for brunch on the awesome patio in the back.

I came here on my visit to Atlanta and I'm absolutely in love with this place. They had live music and wonderful outside seating on their patio. We had the chicken salad wontons, shrimp & grits fritters, twisted ceviche and sweet tea ribs. Every time I come to Atlanta I'm visiting. I love that it's in such a central location and we had the best service!

I am so sad to say that my meal here was one of the biggest epic fails ever. We ordered the shrimp crab fritters recommended by the waiter. Doesn't it sound delicious? A dream appetizer! But holy cow, I took a bite and could not eat anymore because I thought it was either under cooked or the seafood had gone bad. Then we ordered the twisted soul salad and sadly it was another fail. Dressing was too thick, the greens were wilted, it was not an elegant dish. Then our entrees arrived. Fried chicken was good. Sides, inedible. Mac & cheese seemed like it was left over from yesterday. The collard green rolls tasted like a dirty wet cigar. I got scallops that came with sweet potato ravioli & broccolini. Scallops were ok. My ravioli tasted like a frozen ravioli from a week ago. My greens were overcooked. So sad... Our waiter was very sweet & attentive. We ended up talking to the chef. We told them what we thought and they were gracious enough to take the entrees off the bill. Otherwise it would have been a $100 bill for a very sad disappointing dinner.

I am torn between giving this 4 stars or slightly lower. I went with 4 because everything we had was good, but not all of it was great. That said, I would eat each dish again if it was ordered for me. Our table started with seafood fritters, chicken salad chips and chicken egg rolls. The fritters were excellent. The best thing we had. The chicken salad chips were too. I didn't try the egg roll but my friends ripped into it. The starters were probably what made our expectations for the rest of the meal so high. For my entree I had the meatloaf sandwich. It was good but a little dry. I had wanted more meatloaf and a little less burger. It was too close to being finely ground burger. But the thin cut wedge fries were the best part of the meal. Worth a trip back for those alone. A friend ordered the seafood Mac and Cheese. I tried it. The lobster was perfectly cooked but the cheese was a total disappointment. To put lobster in a dish, the cheese has to be as quality. It wasn't. I swear it was american cheese. Big disappointment. We ended with bread pudding, my fave, and the others had red velvet cake and pie. They said the cake and pie were great. The bread pudding had great flavor but was too dry. Lastly, I didn't try it but the BBQ spare rib app must have gone to every other table and smelled and looked amazing. Service was good.

If food is more than a necessity but a hobby, the very reason u look forward to another day then the Twisted Soul is a must visit! Dare I say a place to add to your dining bucket list. I highly recommend this urban oasis for the atmosphere, the exceptional service and...the FOOD, the glorious soul food! When it comes to food and dining experiences, I am rarely impressed but I was just that impressed at the combinations Chef Debra created. I have not one negative thing to say. The experience has made me a believer in Chef Debra's vision! I have a new favorite!

The family dined on a Thursday for the family special of fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy , and green beans, which is a great bargain. The food was good but not special. I would have preferred the beans less cooked. I was expecting a smoked flavor in the chicken as that is their special but I don't think they do the family chicken that way. Beer and wine list was reasonably priced. The iced tea tasted instant.

Loved Twisted Soul! We went on NYE thinking we would just get a drink while we waited on a table at Kimball House, but ended up staying for dinner. They have something really great going on! I live within walking distance of this place and I'm really glad it replaced Mar Bar. My boyfriend and I split the fried chicken. It was a leg, thigh, and breast with a generous helping of mac and cheese, collards, and sweet potatoes for about 18 dollars. I'm from south Georgia with two grandmothers who can throw down, and this fried chicken totally satisfied me. I'm already craving it again. They also had 7 dollar glasses of Möet. We had appetizers too, some sort of chicken egg rolls that were delicious and some fried green tomatoes that I didn't love. They were served with a rice mixture on top which I didn't really like. I can't wait to go back to try some of their other dishes.

I was excited to try Twisted Soul on the basis of the great reviews and what looked like an interesting menu. Unfortunately, the food was underwhelming. The fritters were the clear winners from our first course but the snapper and braised short ribs (typically one of my favorite dishes) seemed like meals that you would receive at a wedding, not really ones that you would expect from a Decatur restaurant in this price range.

Excellent service, great music, delicious food! Start with the black eyed pea appetizer, next try the jerk duck, and don't leave without having the peach cobbler.

We've lived in the downtown Decatur area for about 7 years, and seen restaurants come and go. None have been soul food places, so we were very excited to see this place open, and hoping that it would succeed. Our first experience tonight, unfortunately, will likely be our last. We were seated pretty quickly for not having reservations on a Saturday night, with the place being packed and there only being 3 tables open. I would definitely recommend making reservations for the weekend. From there, we waited about 5 minutes after our initial seating before our waitress came to take a drink order. The waitress was nice and friendly, but after dropping off 2 free seafood wontons some 5-10 minutes later, we went long stretches without seeing her. The stuffing in the wontons was not particularly flavorful and the edges were burnt, but they did their job of making us stick around even though we were growing increasingly frustrated with the wait. We'd ordered a ginger beer and one of their house cocktails. They shouldn't have taken 15 minutes after seating to get to the table, but when they did, we gave our food order. 30 minutes later, our waitress brought out a basket of assorted breads. Typically a place will issue a bread basket right after seating you, so the fact that we were just getting one 45 minutes afterwards just lent itself to an increasingly bad reputation. Particularly when you know your kitchen is backed up, little things like that - timely bread baskets - will help keep patrons' spirits jovial. About 5 minutes later, our waitress comes back - she was serving the table next to us who'd arrived 20 minutes after us, so we were seeing her, she just wasn't checking on us. She made an odd remark that I should please "not strangle her" out of our frustration. I was beyond joking at that point. We were sitting there for 50 minutes with no food. That's not the time to joke about that, but that let me know she was aware of the situation. I used to be a server years ago, and I'm a frequent visitor to restaurants. To me, that's a time for a server to maybe say, "I apologize for the wait, the kitchen's backed up, but the food will be amazing when it comes. Can I get you more bread in the meantime?" or something to that effect. Instead, she grabbed my glass, which was now empty, for a refill. An hour after seating, our waitress emerges with our food - and then places it on our neighbors' table. Not sure which would have caused more anger - if their actual food would have come out before ours, or what then happened. The 2 ladies there looked confused at the plates, and I asked the server if that was our food. She picks them up and lays them on our table in front of the wrong people, mine in front of my tablemate and hers in front of me. We typically would have been done at that point, but when the food came out, it looked absolutely picturesque. We'd ordered the fried chicken plate and the fried green tomatoes sandwich. They looked as advertised, so we corrected her and set out to try it. I took a bite of everything on the chicken plate but the chicken because each bite was, at best, luke warm. At worst, it was cold. But it tasted really good. I didn't make it to the chicken, which seemed perfectly fried. My mate didn't try her fried green tomato sandwich at all, but again, it looked amazing. So, apart from the wait - which was bad enough - the kitchen seemed to have done their part, and it seemed to be a service issue. No telling how long our food had been done. But where were the heat lamps? Not sure that sitting at the bar would have helped in any way. I talked to the manager, who also seemed nice, and she comped the food which we left on the table. Despite her statement that they don't do business that way, we saw the same looks of frustration and waiting happening with several other tables, and that's an awfully hard first impression to make and overcome. Because the food looked great and tasted great - what little I tried - I'd love to give them a second chance, but I don't think I can. That wait was atrocious, and the whole experience was too frustrating to risk duplicating again.

I don't normally write reviews, but felt I needed to after visiting Twister Soul on Howard. Great food, great drinks, half price bottles of wine on Wednesday night. Very good service, this will be a regular place for us on Wednesday nights!

Reading the other reviews, I'm quite surprised that it got this high of a rating. The food was thoroughly disappointing. I'll start from the beginning. First was an amuse bouche that was a vegetable empanada with black eyed peas: the dough was nicely fried and flakey, but the filling was bland and indistinguishable. For appetizers we had the shrimp and crab fritters, which were solid, nicely dressed and flavorful. We had the sweet tea ribs, which were edible but not tender enough and the sauce was bland. We also had the mussels, which had no flavor and a few that were gritty. For entrees there was the cocoa crusted rack of lamb, ordered medium rare, served medium-well, but the fat cap was not well-trimmed and not rendered out. The brussels sprouts were said to be roasted, but were more boiled as there was no duck fat flavor nor crispiness that can be achieved when roasting in duck fat; the sweet potatoes and sauce were by far the best part of the plate. Also had the seafood mac, the sauce was broken and therefore grainy, lobster overcooked and rubbery, the noodles were waaay overdone. The country fried beef tenderloin was to be cooked medium, but was well-done and dry, mashed potatoes were over worked and starchy. For dessert the bread pudding was just not a good consistency. It was probably baked in a water bath, but it likely wasn't done long enough. Finally had the red velvet bundt cake. It was pretty tasty, but the cream cheese frosting was sub-par. The service was pretty good and the ambiance and music choice was weird at times. Overall everything was just totally under seasoned, but done with nice presentation. I will likely not be back.

Great and I mean really terrific service tonight. My wife and 2 kids had dinner and everyone was welcoming. Connor our waiter was attentive and pleasant, the owner/manager came out to say hello and thank us. The small plates were all terrific, especially liked the black eyed pea salsa and chips as well as the seafood fritters. My son and I had fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, and a very well presented and tasty spin on collards that was incredible. My youngest had the kids plate with about the same. My wife is Vegan so it's usually hard to please all of us but they did have a vegan option which she seemed to like. Portions are plenty, took some chicken home and the cocktails were southern eclectic at it's best... we'll definitely be back!

I went to Twisted Soul on a double date recently, and what a cute place it is! They did an excellent job with the decor, very warm and welcoming, with an urban rustic feel. We called ahead a couple hours to confirm they could fit us in (it was a Saturday night for 4 at around 7:30pm) and unfortunately they didn't have anything until 8:00pm. As we'd waited too long to make a reservation, we accepted what we could get and all decided just to go early (about 7:15pm) and grab a cocktail beforehand. However, when we got there, the restaurant was surprisingly empty so we were seated right away. I'm not sure if this is just poor reservation planning or if they underbook on purpose, but either way it was nice to be squeezed in. However, from there, things went downhill. Our server, while very nice, was overwhelmed with her section. It looked like only her and one other person were handling the entire restaurant on a Saturday night! So, as you can imagine, drinks took forever, food took forever, and they completely forgot one of the appetizers we'd ordered, not even offering an apology or explanation. When all of these things are slow and don't come together in a timely manner, it speaks to an overall lack of appropriate staffing or training, which unfortunately really detracted from our experience. Beyond that, the items themselves were overpriced for how small they were. Its too bad, because the fried chicken was really good! Hopefully they work out those kinks and get back on track!

Peach cobbler review. DONT BUY IT! Very sloppy in making. It was MUSH! Tasted like canned peaches. NO crust, just mushy mush. Nothing special and my 13 year old who doesn't cook or know anything about cooking anything could do better. You'd better to buy a Marie Calendars cobbler from the store AND SPARE THE DISAPPOINTMENT!! Don't buy it !! Again Don't buy it!! I got the Marie Calendars because I was let down soooo badly. I had to get normal with the cobbler feeling again. Service was fantastic and it's too bad this thing they call dessert let them ALL down on this review. Horrible, Tragic, dishonorable end to a good meal.

Oh my GOSH!!!! This place is amazing! Whenever the Mr. and I go in, we're treated like family. Mr. Warren and Ms. Lorraine feel like our brother and sister--and we got the 30 seconds into our first visit. The food is fantastic. Try the shrimp and crab fritters, the ribs, chicken and waffles, and the chicken salad on wontons. They're awesome! The drinks are exceptional! Since both of us are bartenders, E and I are particular about our drinks. When I tell you they're amazing, I'm not joking! The moonshine drinks are the greatest! Go now... RIGHT NOW! Tell them that Jenn sent you!

This will be short and sweet. Just follow my directions and you will have a great meal. Sit at the bar. Make sure David is your bartender. Order the meatloaf burger and fries. Then order a variety of drinks, whether it's the peach martini with peach jam and Georgia peach sweetness or a special margarita (my friend got a grapefruit flavored margarita and it was amazing). And enjoy your meal. Everything was delicious and the service was even better. I can't wait to return here soon.

I really enjoyed this restaurant and I'm proud to say it's the best soul food I've had in Atlanta and I've visited several places. I visited on a Scoutmob and didn't have any problems using it. I got the Southern Marinated Fried Chicken and it was alot of food, the greens were fab, macaroni was good too. My husband got the Brasstown Meatloaf Burger and fries and was pleased also. We were served bread prior to our meal and the sweet potato roll they had with cinnamon on top was AMAZING yum! I'd go back just for that. Just as other guest have mentioned, Connor was also our waiter and very knowledgable of the menu and attentive to our table. Having a waiter that is good helps with the dining experience tremendously. The only reason I can't give the restaurant 5 stars is because the parking, again, as everyone else has mentioned. We went to an early dinner on a Friday night at 7pm and circled the building and lot 4 times until we could find a park.. not fun when you're hungry. I'll def go back but I hope the parking situation gets better.

Nice, restored brick building. Seated on time with a reservation. My dinner mates thought the meal was just ok. I ordered the fried chicken and greens which were fantastic . The mac and cheese were nothing special. The service and staff were great. I would have given the restaurant four stars but the chairs were brutal. Very uncomfortable.

Service was slow, wait for a table was long and food was mediocre. It seemed like they didn't have enough staff to handle the volume of people. However I really liked the presentation. I ordered the grilled chicken salad and the ingredients did not seem to be paired well. The salad was not tossed, and the grilled chicken was one breast that was not sliced. The bread that comes with the meal was dry. The have a very nice interior and outdoor seating. But, the table i sat at seemed to have been painted by hand and there was paint chipping off, I thought that was tacky. They should have gone over the table with some type of clear coat after painting.

I've been wanting to try this place since it opened, and last night we finally did. The People: My wife, me, and another couple The Atmosphere: Beautiful restaurant with urban chic vibe The Service: Over the top friendly. Our server, Blue, was very passionate about his job, made us fee at home, and made awesome recommendations The Food (rating scale 1 - 5): Appetizers - fried duck & sweet potato waffles (4) Shrimp & crab fritters (5) Entrees - southern fried chicken (4) Sweet tea ribs (4) Pan roasted grouper (4.5) Dessert - bananas foster banana pudding (4.5) Peach cobbler w/vanilla ice cream (5) The Overall Experience: I absolutely loved this place and can't wait to go back. While the food didn't score all 5's, they were all very strong dishes. The shrimp & crab fritter and the peach cobbler stole the show, as they were the best two things we had all night. The duck was good, and I loved it with the waffle; I was just surprised that it didn't have a crust, even though it was deep fried. The chicken was moist and crispy, the portion was huge, but it could use just a touch more seasoning. The ribs had great flavor and I loved the chew, but my friend thought they could be a little more tender. The grouper was moist and delicious! And all three had great sides that paired really well. The bananas foster banana pudding was a touch too sweet, but that didn't stop me from downing nearly the whole thing (unfortunately I had to share with the others at the table). But that peach cobbler... Not too sweet, the right amount of crust, and the ice cream just took it over the top. It's one of those desserts that you keep checking to see if there is any more in the bowl, well after you've licked it clean. Don't judge me...

1st visit to this Decatur hidden gem. Parking isn't the best, clean and a friendly staff. My friend suggested this restaurant for brunch and it was an really good find. It's a buffet of great looking options. My favs the chicken & waffles, seafood grits, mac & cheese and desserts. This is a great brunch spot to explore. I will definitely come back for brunch.

Took forever to get seated. Took forever to get greeted by a server. Took forever to get the appetizer and entree, but what's worst are the food portions. The portions for the chips and bean salsa is so small that a bird can eat it and would still be hungry afterwards!! I ordered the beef short rib w/lasagna. The portions were so small that I was done with it in 5 minutes. By the way, this entree cost $22.00. I was so pissed, that I asked the server to send the chef over. I literally wanted to know what they were thinking. The chef never came but the server ended up speaking on behalf of the chef saying they wanted to go light on the beef for summer. RIDICULOUS!! I began to look around to see what other people had on their plates and it looks like the fried chicken is the way to go to get full. Either way, if I can't get full for a $22.00 entree and a $7.00 appetizer, you literally deserve a one star and probably a different chef. I definitely don't recommend this place.

Welcome to the scene TS! Came here on a Sunday evening, and it did not disappoint. Very cool ambiance, I suspect if we came later in the night, it might not be so child friendly. But the wait staff was spot on, easily among the best service we've received here in ATL. Started with the Twisted Soul salad with goat cheese. Wonderful!!! I wish there was a little more goat cheese goodness, but I was sharing with hubby. Maybe next time I'll tell him to get his own. Per our waiter's recommendations, I got the country fried steak. I was a little skeptical, but it was fabulous! The sauce was awesome-sauce!!! And the green beans - those were the best green beans I have ever had. If all green bean dishes tasted like that, I would not hesitate to heap on green bean casseroles at holiday gatherings. Finished with the bread pudding - INCREDIBLE! Absolutely loved it, and really had to try not to glare at hubby from eating more than just the bite or two he said he was going to have. Will be back! Quick note - immediate parking adjacent to the restaurant is quite tight. They have another lot shared with Kimball House.

The Good: Met a friend here for dinner. Upon entrance, i immediately fell in Love with the decor. The expose brick, well stock bar and beautifully decorated tables, appeared warm and inviting. It almost reminded me of dinning at one of my favorite spots in New York City. The Ok: our waiter was friendly enough. He dove into taking our orders and never gave his name. After being seating we noticed our table was rocky, uneven and ask if he could possibly fix it. He promised he would at least three times throughout the night but never did. We eventually moved to another table, one table over. Our waiter didn't seem phased by the move. The Bad: A basket of sorted dry old mini carbs and hard butter was placed on our table. I knew better than to touch it. When our waiter returned, I ordered the pan speared snapper with garlic quinoa and seasonal veggies. My snapper appeared frozen and microwaved. The quinoa was over cooked and soggy. The seasonal veggies was broccoli, I think? Nevertheless, it was a horrible frozen dinner I could've gotten at Publix, minus the $18 tab. The Good-Plus: I was So hungry after my frozen dinner fiasco, and we still had an hour before our 8:00pm comedy show at Eddie's Attic. I decided to order dessert. I kept my order simple this time and ordered their bread pudding (al a mode) with a side of ice creme. The $9 pudding was good but not worth the price and of course you can't go wrong with ice creme. The Sad: I left upset, I paid $45 for a horrible meal and no one on staff seemed to notice or even care that my meal was untouched and I left without a doggie bag.

We ate at Twisted Soul for the first time last week and were extremely impressed. The food was very good and the service was outstanding. The restaurant has a large, outdoor patio out back with plenty of seating. Our server, Yvan, went above and beyond bringing us tastes of different wines to find the perfect pairing to go with our meal. She brought us homemade berry popsicles afterward we ate, too. I had one of the house moonshine drinks and was pleasantly surprised--it wasn't too sweet by any means. For our entrees, my boyfriend got the shortrib lasagna. The portobello mushrooms in it were out of this world delicious, I got the fried green tomato sandwich with bacon. It was pretty good, but I was most impressed by the delicious tempura-battered homemade fries. Yum! This is a great addition to downtown Decatur. I hope it's location, tucked across the street from Kimball House, doesn't deter people from trying it out. We're planning to go back soon.

Have you ever been on one of those rollercoaster rides where the first drop ends up being the most exciting part of the ride...? Well...that's kind of how our meal went the other night. Although we ordered their PEI mussels to start, we were pleasantly surprised with a complimentary preview from the chef- an amuse bouche "Mooze Bouche" (that's what it showed on the receipt)- It was a chicken salad on a "wonton"- this was actually excellent. A great blend of distinct textures (crunchy/chewy/crisp ~ fried wonton shell/chicken/veggie) and the flavors melded well together. This really got us excited for our meal. I also ordered a glass of Soul Sister Pinot (I forgot which year)- but it was excellent. Great recommendation from our waiter. PEI mussels- With all this anticipation, these mussels were unfortunately downright uninspiring. You wanna talk about "deflategate"? How about our expectations. Sigh. No complexity in the broth, the mussels themselves were more or less on the brink of going bad- a good 1/4 of them didn't open up very much upon cooking, which basically told us to steer clear! Without any improvements, this shouldn't be on the menu. For our entrees, we had the following: Southern fried tenderloin- Now this was recommended by the waiter- I was trying to choose between the braised short ribs and this dish. Although I requested medium, it ended up being well-done. SMH. I understand that when you deep fry, it might make it difficult to keep the meat at medium....but still. Chewy. The only nice thing about this dish was the element of truffle flavor in the gravy. The mashed potatoes and green beans were competent, but nothing special. (3) Marinated fried chicken- Other reviewers have mentioned this as well- but the breast was WAY dried. Like Kroger fried chicken DRY. Not cool. The breading was crispy and tasty, and the leg and thigh meat was passable. We kind of wondered what kind of marinade they used, because the meat wasn't particularly flavorful- I mean, it was good, but there wasn't any obvious hint as to what could've been used in the marinade. (2.5) When you're an upscale southern restaurant, you need to at least fry your chicken breasts at a similar competency level as the local Bojangles, right? Well, after our entrees, we didn't really want dessert. I really like the way this place is set up- ambiance is nice, unique compared to other spots in downtown Decatur- it does get too loud because there isn't much to absorb noise. Despite our bad initial experience I still think this place has a lot of potential, and I really hope they will take reviews into consideration and make changes that are needed. We really do need a non-Brickstore-affiliated business to do well in downtown Decatur!

Finally tried Twisted Soul last week and will be going back. The ceviche was excellent, the meatloaf burger was really tasty and the grilled poundcake was delicious. I will be back to try the fried chicken and some of their signature cocktails.

So welcomed back. I'm a fan from the Edible Art days and I couldn't believe they are back and down the street from me in Decatur and in the old Feast location. I had to have the fried chicken because that dish is so inventive. The Mac n' cheese is perfect because it not overly cheesy and they use a different pasta, the collard greens are in an eggroll shape, the chicken is cooked to perfection and not greasy but moist and tender. It was a good as I remember. Someone at the table had the rib lasagne and they enjoyed it. Ditto for the cajun grilled chicken. Started with the black-eyed pea dip and chips. That was really good and the tortilla chips were made fresh though a bit salty for my taste. We were all so full we decide to share the lemon pound cake and with ice cream with the birthday boy and it was delicious as well. the decor is casual and cool and if it's nice day/evening definitely check out the hidden but lush patio out back. Waitress was great. And it was a nice touch that manager and owner came by to check on us. I love spending my money where it is definitely appreciated. Great to start your evening at the bar as they have a really nice bar area that is separated with a screen but still within the restaurant. Check it out and you won't be disappointed.

We came for the Father's Day buffet. The chicken salad was to die for. The potatoes were amazing. We got a lot of personalized attention from chef Brandon. Banana pudding got an a plus. We thought it was funny the desert came in little spoons. It was fun to try little bites! I could tell that they really cared about the quality of the food and our experience. The interior was pleasing. Twisted soul is going to be in food fighter in late July. We're so excited to see them win!! My southern father was impressed they cooked him 2 eggs over light and brought to him. He would like to see deviled eggs on the buffet.

Really well done. Attractive and inviting space. Excellent service. Friendly staff. Good craft cocktails. Food was excellent. The Southern Marinated Fried Chicken was perfection. Looking forward to going back. Twisted Soul is worth the trip no matter where in Atlanta you live.

I arrived at the restaurant at 7 30 p.m. with reservation. Parking is located in the back very small parking lot. Expect to wait to find parking. We were seated immediately and the waitress was knowledgeable of the menu. Unfortunately I believe we where there on an off night and it was a very hot day with temperatures over 95 degrees. The restaurant a/c was out the first 45 minutes we where in the restaurant. The temperatures definitely exceeded 80 degrees. The heat made the food service very slow. The bright spot was the food! For small plate appetizer, the Black Eyed Peas salsa and the jerk chicken kebab were exceptionally good. For the main course we had pan seared grouper and marinated southern fried chicken; both 5 star quality in taste and presentation!

Promising...stopped in after trying to go to Kimball House (which had a really long wait) and craving some comfort food. I had been to the restaurant that had been in the same location previously (Mar Bar/Cantina)...the restaurant layout, its distressed wood tables and steel chairs are unchanged, with additions of some red accents, and wall decor. I liked the restaurant logo and table decor that features a Mason jar, tying back to moonshine, which is featured in many of the cocktails on the menu. The menu is Southern and ambitious...upscale but still casual and a little bit different than what everyone has come to expect with most new southern restaurants...I guess that is the "twist" on soul food. I liked that salads and vegetables were prominently featured as starters and sides to entrees, and not just limited to collards (which I don't like) and veggies that are cooked to death in many other southern restaurants. The descriptions of the food and ingredients are interesting and delicious sounding, and not overly fussy, which is great! I also liked the variety, of both the appetizers and the entrees...looking forward to returning to try different menu items. And SO glad that not everything was pickled...another new southern trend that has been done to death. Our table tried appetizer ribs, which were sufficiently sauced with a sweet tea marinade sauce, and with very little bark. The ribs had an interesting presentation- alternately stacked in a square (see photo). Not sure if the ribs would pass the authentic BBQ test, but who cares? I was so hungry and the BBQ sauce was tasty so they disappeared pretty quickly from the plate. I had the snapper entree that came with crawfish butter sauce, quinoa and a seasonal vegetable, broccolini, and all were prepared well and in very generous portions. I do wish the crawfish butter sauce had some more kick...if not spicy, then maybe some type of spice or ground peppercorn. The quinoa was a nice twist, different that the usual starchy sides. I found myself wondering if I would be able to just order a bunch of sides, since the descriptions of them (with entrees) sounding so wonderfully delicious...duckfat roasted brussel sprouts, bacon grits, Boursin mashed potatoes...yum. Service was great for a newly opened restaurant- we were greeted immediately upon entering, and our server was prompt and friendly, without being too intrusive. Drinks and food were paced well, we got new silverware after appetizers, and we were never left waiting or looking for the server....he did everything correctly and very well! Not sure if Twisted Soul will get enough foot traffic, given the fact that Kimball House is right across the street...give it a shot, I got a good first impression.

Tried to eat here. Rude hostess said 45 min. Restaurant was only 1/2 full. To many other places to try to put up with that.

We went on a Sunday when they were throwing two parties, we ate outside and they were very accommodating considering the commotion. Fried chicken was solid, not the best I've had in Atlanta, but quite good. No question you have to get the Peach Cobbler. We saw the recent Food Network show on it, so we had to give it a shot. I've had other peach cobblers around, but the detail they do on it really shows, I can say even the small things like cutting up the peaches, really matters to the dish. They apparently run out somewhat early in the evening at times, so get there early for it.

I really would give this a 4.5 stars, if possible. This was our first visit to Twisted Soul. We sat at the bar and Warren and David took great care of us - even gave us a complimentary tasting of their chicken salad on wontons! Had the shrimp/crab fritters. They were pretty good but didn't feel like the crab was real blue crab - which would have given it nice sweet complement to the shrimp. We also had the fried chicken and meatloaf burger. They were both amazing, and we had LOTS left over to take home because we couldn't possibly finish it all - very healthy serving sizes! One of the owners even dropped by to see how we liked everything. Just a great experience and a must try for Decatur! We will be going back for sure!

Amazing! We made reservations and were seated as soon as we showed up. Our server, Blue, was great! He made the experience complete. We had the shrimp and crab fritters as an appetizer. I am not a fan of crab but these were awesome! Not at all fishy. I could have eaten a dozen. My date had the ribs which were huge. I had the southern fried chicken. Everything was very good. The service speed was what we expected. But Blue really did make the experience a great one! We will definitely be back!!!

Wonderful menu for Sunday brunch. Menu has many eclectic options. Our entrees included Fried Chicken & Vanilla Bean Waffles, the Twisted Benedict. My Eggs Benedict was the most unusual yet tasty that I've ever had - salmon and collard greens. The home made breads are not to miss - fresh sweet potato bread and blueberry muffins. Don't forget a cocktail. My suggestion is the Georgia Sunrise. Hostess and Server were great. Wonderful decor and atmosphere enhance the fantastic food.

Welcome to the neighborhood Twisted Soul. So happy that you are here. Decided to check this place out on a cold windy Thursday evening on an impromptu date night. I love the decor. I love the layout. I was greeted by a bubbly sweet waitress by the name of Yvonne. She offered tons of suggestion. I could tell she loved her job and believed in the food served. Okay here's what we ate: Twisted Soul Salad- delicious. Those homemade cornbread croutons were perfect. I would've eaten an entire plate of them. Sweet Tea Marinaded Baby Back Ribs-If I wasn't on a date, I would have handled those ribs a little bit better. They are messy but worth licking your fingers for. Port Wine Short Ribs-my date had this. From what I tasted, I may order this on my next trip to Twisted Soul. I highly recommend this place. Its perfect for a date night, dining solo or with a few friends. Let's support this local business in Decatur.

I've frequented Twisted Soul several times & have yet to be disappointed!! So much so I've recommended friends & they also sing the praises of Chef Deborah & her skilled Sous Chef!! The eclectic menu is flavorful & colorfully pleasing to the palette. Sunday brunch also proved to be quite memorable!!! The southern fried chicken is crisp & savory as well as the pork chop is tender with the greatest pairing of apple chutney!!! Nom nom!!!!

I hate writing reviews like this. It was Tuesday night around 6:30 and a friend and I wanted to try this new place in Decatur. We had been before to the same space as Mar and before that Feast. Walking in was like attending a wake but we were the only attendees. Throughout the evening there were only two other two tops. The two stars are for the waiter and the interesting Slovenian red wine. The waiter was terrific and very attentive. The red wine was a luscious Merlot/Cabernet blend and very fairly priced. We started sharing the BBQ chicken spring rolls. They were huge and appeared fried to a crispy goodness with a spicy looking sauce. They were tasteless and the sauce was not even noticeable. The chicken was dry and mealy with a really odd "off" taste. Was it that horrible liquid smoke? Neither of us finished even half of the roll. My main dish was the braised chicken. It had that "off" taste and the boiled new potatoes had a chemical flavor. The chicken was moist but absolutely flavorless (discounting the "off" flavor.). I left two thirds of the dish uneaten. My friend ordered the appetizer spare ribs and the roasted beet salad. The salad was huge but . . . "Where's the beets." The upside were the delicious fried artichoke hearts. The spare ribs were slathered in a overly sweet sauce and were a bit tough. At this point I was ravenous and we decided to share the peach Melba with ice cream. Wow, even the peach Melba had an "off" flavor that came from the pastry. The ice cream was good. The dessert was left half eaten too. I left hungry and disappointed and feeling sorry for the waiter. My to go box was dumped in the garbage at home. I won't be returning.

We were excited to try this place after taking a look at the menu. It was not an experience we will look to repeat. Very disappointing food and strange approach from the server, who repeatedly mentioned different cocktails and entree's as being appropriate for males rather than females. He was sweet, but he needs a few lessons on food and drink being genderless. The amuse bouche, a pastry with seafood was very good, as were the jerk chicken satay and fried green tomato starters. The cocktails were ok but nothing to remember, which is why I don't remember them. It went downhill with the entree's. My husband's Sweet Tea Ribs were fatty, flavorless and tough. He is a rib worshipper and he barely ate his dinner, not taking the to go box that was packed for him without a request. There were no questions coming from the server or the kitchen about these obvious clues and we weren't in the mood to share our disappointment. My BLGT sandwich was actually pretty good. But again, not great. With all of the consistently stellar restaurants in Decatur, I doubt we'll try this place again unless someone we know and love tells us it's recovered from its mediocrity.

Ok food but nothing outstanding. The service, however, was terrific and the back patio was beautiful as the sun went down. I went on a Saturday evening and the tables were 80% empty. I'm sure it's a disappointment for the restaurant. Parking is available but you may have to search side streets. There is a teeny parking lot for the restaurant and I believe you can also use the teeny lot across the street. I will go back just to sit on the patio and have drinks with friends and family.

Nice atmosphere, live music, good drinks, and great food! Had the duck and waffles, bbq shrimp and grits, and a dessert with butter milk ice cream! Yummy! Loved the ice cream!

I'm surprised this place doesn't have more customers or reviews. We went tonight with our 2 kids (early dinner to not disturb others) and it was fabulous. The waiter was very helpful, the food was great, and the decor is simple and nice. We had the fried chicken and braised beef lasagna, both were huge portions and tasty. I tried a signature cocktail and it was really good too. I didn't like the bread basket but my kid loved the cinnamon bread and the corn bread. I would go back just for the fried chicken. Want to try their brunch menu too.

We enjoyed our recent Sunday supper at Twisted Soul. Fine cocktails and a good selection of craft drafts to start off. As mentioned by another reviewer, the black eyed pea salsa was terrific. My dining partner loved her snapper and took half of it home, while my Twisted Soul Salad with grilled chicken was huge and nicely done. Service was professional and friendly (the restaurant was uncrowded, however). We'll be back for fried chicken some time soon.

We had a great first visit! The drinks were fabulous; the black eyed pea salsa was delicious - we ate literally every single bite! House bread basket was a yummy treat - and smart, given the moonshine ;) Fantastic, attentive service-- they patiently answered all of our questions and one of the owners even brought a special moonshine taste to our table. I had the fried chicken - it bordered on tough but at least if was cooked thoroughly :) It had fantastic flavor....crispy skin - without being salty or greasy. My husband had the trout and it was delicious. I'd have tried dessert but was seeking chocolate and the menu did not feature any. That was my only disappointment! I'm going to have to go back to try more - especially the daily specials. Great, albeit unexpected, patio area! Will be great in the spring.

Everything I had here tonight was great. The Bartender David started me out with a grapefruit margarita and it was super amazing. Then I shared the sweet potato waffle and duck tapas dish as well as the jerk chicken kabobs and they were pretty good as well, but the meatloaf burger was one of the best burgers I've had along with the fries which are uniquely shaped and fried..lastly I had a apple pie moonshine coke float to top it off. I can definitely see why they say Decatur where it's greater.

I have been wanting to go to this place since it opened. I finally got the chance last night...the staff is EXTRA friendly and accommodating, the atmosphere is calm urban...the back patio is AMAZING and the Pandora radio just made it so much fun, with classic disco tunes playing. The food was eclectic and very well prepared..loved it!! My ONLY issue with this restaurant is that they have declared themselves a "Southern" restaurant. I was expecting a lot of fried food and dishes that had grits as a side dish...this was so not the case..I wish they would take that off their description!!! Please don't pre-judge this amazing restaurant as another "southern cuisine" place...it's amazing and worth the trip to Decatur!! Bravo!!!
