I moved to the Covington area 14 years ago and on my first day at work I went to lunch somewhere and was unimpressed. The second day I went to El Charro. It has been my favorite restaurant ever since. So much so that although I go to other places in my town, I have not eaten at other restaurants in Covington. And I have eaten there at least once a week ever since. I'm originally from the southwest so I know Mexican food, and although this is not terribly authentic, it's really good. The waiters aren't terribly friendly, but they're not rude, and they're fast and accurate. Their salsa is really good. The prices are very reasonable.

Had not been to El Charo in Covington for a long time. Today I remembered why. The food is very bland. It was only half full. The service was slow from seating to checkout. When I commented on the dirty wall in our both to the cashier, she shrugged and said we clean on Sundays, I haven't done it yet. We will NEVER be back.

I tried out this place Sunday afternoon, service was friendly enough but the food is nothing to go back for. It wasn't terrible but I would expect more from a so called Mexican restaurant. Chips & salsa were just "ok". I had a chicken enchilada, chili relleno*sp? & taco. Everything was flat, just meh.....I wouldn't go back nor would I recommend it to anyone.

This restaurant is okay. The food portions compared to other places is sad. The flavor and taste is good. I have never gotten sick eating here. The service is okay depending on who you get. If you want good service ask for Carlos. Do not expect to get to sit outside in their lovely patio. It is always dominated by heavy smokers and reeks! Avoid the bathrooms if you can.

I like a little more authentic Mexican but my elderly mother can't handle the complex taste so this is a great inbetween for us.

Nice neighborhood Mexican Restaurant.oh! They prepare the tacos like I want them. There not the tacos I love in California but ... it is , what it is! Not much to choose from in Covington or Atlanta .I'll keep looking for that' taco .maybe I'm asking for to much,I'm in ga.

Whenever we return to Covington, the Charro is t the top of our list! It's crowded for a reason. The waiters aren't particularly warm and fuzzy, but they're never rude and always lightnin' fast! Skip the mixed drinks, but the beer is cold and the food is terrific!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
