The service here is incredible. I came with a group of 20 people and only ended up trying Miyako because every other restaurant I called was unable to handle a party our size. Miyako gave us the reservation at the time we wanted and was definitely able to cater to our large group. The service was incredible. The servers were quick, attentive, and so friendly. Our hibachi chef was talented and hilarious and we all enjoyed the show, and we enjoyed the food even more! The portions are huge so a hibachi combo is good for at least two meals. I got the chicken combo with salmon and it came with veggies, rice, and noodles. I was only able to get through about 1/3 of the food before I couldn't eat anymore. I'll definitely be back!

I have enjoyed my dinner this evening. We arrived and we're seated promptly. The service was excellent. The hibachi dinner was on point. Our family thoroughly enjoyed this evening at Miyako

Very fast and friendly service. The tea and miso soup was served piping hot. Tempura light and crispy...veggies and shrimp fresh. Sushi rolls delicious with generous raw fish to rice ratio. House salad dressing is ginger miso. Very yummy. Military discount and early dining specials and daily specials.

Food was great! My whole family loved it and the price was right. We were able to get a table at 5:30 on Saturday night before the large rush came in!

Really enjoyed it. Went out for sushi. They have a nice special where you get two rolls for $10.95 or 3 for $14.95. They have a good selection of specialty rolls too. Beer selection is fair. No drafts just bottles. Service was good too.

I've dined here on several occasions with my daughter and today I was completely disappointed. My daughter ordered the shumai and as she ate she bit into a plastic screw-like object. I discreetly told our waitress and she dismissed it by saying that they order the shumai from somewhere else and just microwave it for their customers. No apology, no offer to remove it from the table or our final bill. Check your food before you dine here. Who knows what you will find inside. I will no longer eat here and recommend that others stay away as well.

I have visited Miyako several times since it opened. The service seems to diminish each time I go. The food is still good. I visited for lunch, which ends at 2:30 p.m. A friend and I arrived around 2:15 p.m. We were seated immediately. Our waiter was nice, but he seemed like he was rushing around to finish his shift. I ordered the lunch special, three rolls for $12.95. I had the Shrimp Tempura, Sweet Potato and Spicy Crab rolls. All three were great! My lunch special included a soup or salad. I opted for a salad, but I had to remind our waiter and he returned with it later in a to-go box. The good thing about Miyako is that they offer a special each day. I didn't get anything from the bar with it being before 5pm and all, but the bar has great drinks, so try them. I'd visit again in hopes of a more attentive waiter. The pros: The space is always clean. There are plenty of seating choices. The menu is extensive, so you have lots of choices. The location is accessible, but that depends on the time of day. It's located off the busy Washington Road. It is in a plaza, so there is plenty of parking. Check it out!

For my birthday I wanted to try something different for my birthday dinner, so I thought long and hard and came up with this place. I've had Japanese fast food and buffet but never an authentic restaurant. It was an enjoyable experience!!! You can eat free for your birthday but you have to have at least five people in your party. I didn't know that. We only had three in our party and the it was two people celebrating a birthday in my party. But that was fine I definitely know this for the next time when my birthday comes around. This place is very beautiful. You wouldn't know it was this nice from looking on the outside. It's decked out in Japanese appearance. Dimly lit with dark colors and wooden furnishings, it invites you to come in relax and enjoy a meal. There are two sections the front and the back. The front is more like a traditional restaurant and the back is were the hibachi action is. The front was more serene and the back was very lively!!!! We chose to sit in the front. We looked looked over the menu and it was very intensive. They had several pages of just sushi, which I don't eat anymore because I've seen disturbing videos of parasites still alive on sushi that has been served to customers!!! YUCK!!! Most of the other entrees come with hibachi soup/miso soup and garden salad. I couldn't decide if I wanted chicken or steak. I ended up ordering the hibachi chicken and hibachi soup. The soup and salad came first. The salad was very delicious with ranch dressing but the soup I didn't like. It was just clear broth with a mushroom in it I think. My brother ordered the miso soup and it tasted better than mine. It had seaweed and other things in it and it wasn't clear. The food came out quickly and it was quite delicious. Cooked to perfection and seasoned well. I enjoyed every bit of it. The waitress was very friendly and knew the menu well, explaining to us some of our choices. She understood that we weren't use to this type of cuisine. There were several customers that were celebrating birthdays that day. I think they sung 'Happy Birthday' at least three times. The back of the restaurant was extremely full of pep. They were really enjoying themselves. This restaurant is a gem. I can't wait to go back and try more things on the menu. If the food is as good as it was this could be my new favorite restaurant in Augusta.

We ate at Miyako for my birthday this week with a party of 5. We made reservations for 6:30 pm, but when we got there, we were the only ones eating in the hibachi section. The waitress was friendly, but the chef came out and only smiled about once or twice. There was no hibachi show as I've seen at other hibachi restaurants where they do tricks and joke around. Our chef made our food and left. The only thing he did that was close to a trick was spin an egg on the grill, didn't even crack it in the air like I've seen at Fujiyama. No onion volcano, no jokes, nothing at all. It almost seemed like he was upset that customers had come in. If my review was based on the service alone, our experience with the chef would've been 1/5 stars. Seriously...it was my birthday too, I was upset I chose Miyako for this reason. However, the food was good. The noodles were kinda gross, but the chicken/scallops were great and I loved the rice. The food was somewhat superior to Fujiyama, but if I had to go back to one place or the other, I would choose Fujiyama because of the environment and the fun chefs. The waitress asked if it was someone's birthday after getting our to-go boxes and then brought me out a pineapple and orange with a birthday candle and they sang me a song. That was super cute and made up for the grumpy, boring chef. I read reviews on here that said if it's your birthday, you eat free provided you have at least a party of 5. My food was not free, but I didn't know this until after eating there. A little disappointed in that. Overall, I don't think I would return even if the food was decent because when you eat at a hibachi restaurant, half the experience is the chef show and jokes and we didn't get squat. This alone makes the place probably deserve 2 stars, but I'll give it 3 because the shrimp tempura was awesome.

I was looking for a good sushi joint. Yelp pulled a couple in the area and I was drawn to this place. Reviews were good and thought we should try it. Located on Washington road next to Kroger Grocery Store. My mom and I came here for lunch. We were seated and got our drinks right away. Since it was our first time, the server was really patient with us. She told us the specials and made suggestions. My mom got the Hibachi Combo which is $12.95 and you get two proteins, rice, veggies, and salad. Her proteins were salmon and shrimp. I got the 3 sushi roll combo (California roll, sweet potato roll, and salmon tempura roll) for $12.50 and includes a salad (I got the ginger dressing). I ordered an appetizer with the meals (vegetable tempura) but she forgot to put it in. It was a good thing she did because when the food came out, the plate was pretty full. You definitely get your money's worth. My mom's food was hot and she thought it was really delicious. Salmon was flaky (pretty fair size), shrimp (they gave her 4 pieces) and rice had great flavor. She kept raving how awesome her meal was. My Sushi was awesome!!!! I'm picky with my rice. Sometimes when I order sushi, the rice tastes weird. The rice was not hard or too mushy. My sweet potato roll had a fair amount of sweet soy sauce/sesame seeds. Great combo! Salmon Tempura Roll was too good! The seaweed wrapper was out (I usually like my sushi prepared inside out), but it went well on how they made and stuffed it. California roll was decent. Crab and avocado fresh. Service was quick and friendly. Bathrooms and restaurant clean. Overall a great experience and I would definitely return. I wouldn't say it's the best Sushi joint in Augusta, because there are other places I would like to try. I know that I can recommend this to others.

House sake here is better than average. It is slightly on the sweeter side and not dry like most. We ordered two large sakes! Although I was not entirely impressed with what we had ordered, the sushi overall was of good quality. Appetizer: - Spicy tuna tartar: Chopped tuna, seaweed salad, sesame oil, served with tangy/citrusy/spicy sauce. Was 'good'; however, I did not care for the grounded up tuna. Would not order again. - Yellowtail jalapeno: Sliced yellowtail, jalapeno, radish, masago, and scallions served with ponzu sauce. I love the simplicity of this dish which also packs a punch. Sushi: - Shitake Mushroom Roll: Shitake mushroom and cucumber inside topped with smoked salmon, shrimp, and avocado. I was hoping the fragrance and flavor of the shitake mushrooms would be the highlight of this roll; however, there were not even undertones of the flavor. The only thing mushroom-y about this roll it's the rubbery texture. Like my dinner company said, "The roll tastes better the more wasabe you put on it." - Tempura Sweet Potato Roll: Exactly what it sounds like and by far my favorite of the night.

Food was pretty good. When I first arrived (6/10/15), it was probably obvious that I'd never been in the restaurant before since I was looking around. The hostess seemed to be agitated that I told her that I'd be dining alone. I was quickly seated, however. My waitress, while a sweat lady it turns out, seemed surprised that I did not order an alcoholic beverage and apologized to the bartender about my choice of beverage. Does no one who eats here order non-alcoholic beverages?? Needless to say, I didn't feel very welcome. The waitress did seem to notice towards the end of my visit, which was good. I still tipped normally 20% and that seemed to surprise her. Not everyone is a jerk.

Beautiful and comfortable atmosphere. Delicious and fresh food. Wonderful Service. Great place to go on a date. The Playboy roll is my favorite. It comes in 8 pieces which is more than enough for me. The Pink Lady is awesome too.

Best sushi joint in Augusta by far. Decent priced rolls, hibachi is amazing, 10% military discount. The hibachi chefs put on a great show too.

Best Sushi place by far in the Augusta Area .. My husband and I visit pretty frequently maybe once a week..lol I love everything I've ever tried here .. My go to roll is the Miyako Special roll!! I highly recommend it! We usually chill at the bar and have a few drinks while we chat with the bartenders and wait in our food.. which is always out in a timely manner! If you haven't been its a must!!!

Personally the "Authentic Sushi" scene is non-existent here in our city. Fortunately this place exist. I don't so much mind the Hibachi, but sushi is the real jem. There are some very exciting and interesting rolls here if you explore. The staff is pleasant and the sushi masters are amazing!

The shrimp skewer appetizer was small, but tasted good. We got five different rolls and greatly enjoyed them!

White Sauce, yea!! I got Hibachi Steak (cooked perfectly to order). Salad was okay, the ranch could have been improved to improve the overall salad. The Miso soup was good and flavorful. The fried rice was a little underdone in my opinion. The seasoning/sauce was a little watered down in my opinion: if it was full fledged they would've gotten 5 stars.

I typically really enjoy Miyako's. The staff is courteous, the food is delicious and the price is pretty reasonable for Japanese Food. This visit, however, was different. I'm sad to report there was hair in my brother's food. Management was very nice though; he apologized profusely and took it off our tab. I understand mistakes happen, but I must say it will be a while before I pay them another visit.

Great sushi place! Good service, amazing sushi! I had California rolls and spicy crab rolls, they were both great. 12 pieces for only 9 dollars, and the place is kind of fancy. Don't go here if you're in a hurry though because you have I wait a while for food. Great place!!

I come here every weekend with my family. The food is pretty good and the prices are decent. The service is great; not the one or two ladies that stand around and seat you when you first get there, but the waiters have always given us excellent service. The Burn Your Mouth Roll is my go-to sushi roll. And to add icing on the cake, they offer military discounts :) I recommend this place to anyone in Augusta looking for some good sushi. It's not quite the more authentic sushi that I'm used to coming from San Diego, but it's still pretty good.

This place is pretty good. The sushi was great and I love the atmosphere. If you have a date and they like sushi I would definitely recommend this place to take them. The waiter was very attentive and polite and brought everything out quickly.

This is one of my favorite places in Augusta for sushi. I am no hardcore expert - no, I've never been to Japan or the Japantowns of the California coast. Still, I do know what bad sushi tastes like! First off, the interior; it's clean, dark, and nicely decorated, but you can tell it's been re-purposed from something else, though I am not sure what. You notice some wearing around the edges of tiles here and there, and I wouldn't say it's half as fancy inside as Miyabi is, but it's decent. The sushi bar is in the front of the restaurant with the hibachi tables in the back. We've only been there once for hibachi but multiple times for sushi. The hibachi was good - they give generous meat portions, and include noodles as well as rice, which I though was a nice touch. The best roll here is the Volcano Upgrade. No, it's not very "authentic," but it's fried spicy tuna-cream cheese-avacado-wasabi mayo-topped-with-kani-salad goodness. It's also extremely filling - one of these and a regular maki roll or two will probably fill you up. They have a wide selection of other special rolls, and I've never tried anything I haven't enjoyed. As for regular sushi/sashimi, my go-to's are usually salmon, tuna, egg, and eel. The salmon was nice and fresh, very buttery in texture. The tuna was okay - a little dry, not the best I've had. The eel was delicious, but the egg was a serious disappointment; it tasted like it had been made a few days prior and refrigerated as needed. We also ordered fatty tuna, one of the specials, and it was definitely past its prime, which is a shame since the two pieces of sashimi were over ten dollars. Overall though I really do enjoy this place. There's a couple things I have had much better elsewhere - but the special rolls here are awesome.

Great food and atmosphere. Dining areas are separated into regular dining room and hibachi grill room. Me and girlfriend were having lunch for our 2 year anniversary and we both love sushi. We're from Atlanta so we have an abundance of great restaurants in our area. There is a Miyako near where we live but we've never been. After reading the positive reviews online we decided to try Miyako in Augusta. Food: Well we both had a volcano sushi roll and split an order of shrimp fried rice. The shrimp fried rice was great, some of the best fried rice I've had. I do wish they added carrots and peas to the rice but that's just me being "picky". The volcano sushi roll was delicious, our only compliant is the enormous amount of cream cheese placed on the roll. The domestic beers are 3.00 and only come by the bottle. Service: Our waiter was very helpful...at least we thought. She told us about the 2 for 1 special on mondays. We asked 15 minutes later if the special applied to cocktails and the waiter said no only for beer. When we received the check we noticed we were charged full price for all 4 beers we consumed. We asked about the "SPECIAL", the waitress said "sorry my manager said it starts after 6pm". We paid our balance because we did not feel like dealing with the miss hap, but customer service was lacking. The manager should have definitly given us the special since we asked TWICE and was misled by being given wrong information by the waitress. Not our fault! I guess we should have asked three times. "shrug".

Im not really one for Japanese food, but this place was amazing. The service was excellent, and the atmosphere was exceptional. I dont know why but whwn I looked up to the ceiling I felt like I was in Disney World because of all the lights im guessing. I had the chicken and steak with fried rice combo and it was excellent and large, which is why I didnt mind paying $15 something for it.

Good Sushi for sure. The Itamae was up front when I asked him to recommend a roll. "I only eat fish" was his reply. I followed his advice and started with the chef's choice sashimi appetizer and a variety of nigiri to follow. The maguro and toro Hamachi was delicious. He steered me away from the "frozen" unagi to mackerel which was delicious. I think it was slightly pickled but really delicious. Not much in the way of a sake selection but the Itamae was just what I look for; frank and straight forward.

My biggest culture shock since moving to the East Coast, is that "Japanese Cuisine" seems to be synonymous with "Hibachi" here. Not that it's any worse than back at home where "Sushi" is the preferred pronoun, but I digress. I hope no one's made the claim that Miyako is authentic because none of the wait staff here speaks a lick of Japanese. The menu is also disappointingly Americanized as you get about 3-5 pages of Hibachi and Rolls but only a meager selection of nigiri and actual cooked food. But nevermind what Miyako claims itself to be, and on to what it really is. The interior of the restaurant is curiously divided into three different partitions; there's one which seems to have been a nightclub in a former life, the sushi bar, and the general hibachi area. The ambience in the restaurant is very conducive to dining foods priced immodestly (it came to about 100 dollars for the three of us) which I was totally okay with. Since Hibachi is almost non-existent in California but seemingly ubiquitous here in Georgia, I figured I'd give it a try; the fillet mignon hibachi came back to me WELL DONE which, if you've ever been to a decent steakhouse, is pretty much the same as putting ketchup on caviar, or dipping truffles in mayonnaise. The maguro nigiri (i.e. the marker of freshness in any decent sushi joint) was served chilled and somewhat stale, which didn't leave an impression on me. The sushi rolls were okay, but I'm not a huge fan of sushi rolls to begin with. Oh and to the guy that made the "I grew up around Japantown San Francisco" statement: if you've been around Japantown in the last six years, you would not be making that statement to validate ANYTHING, since Japanese food in Japantown is pretty much the marker that us San Franciscan yelpers use for "god-awful, tourist-catering, overpriced crap."

The Suchi is one of the best we ever had. In my party, we all liked the Miso soup and hope they would add more tofu to it in the near future. Staff is friendly and the place is clean. Enjoy the lunch rolls. They are affordable, fresh and tasty.

Delicious sushi! I've had some of their hibachi which I enjoyed as well. This place is great, and it's always open (even on Sunday). Most of the time, I order to go and they're very quick (10-15 minutes). Love it!

Hibachi Review: We went to Miyako the other night for dinner. Upon arrival, we noticed that the restaurant was hot. I think they were having some air conditioning problems. We were seated immediately, and the waitress took our drink orders. When the cook came out, he was very friendly, but needed a little more practice with the spatula spinning trick...Scary! Its not really a good idea to do this when you need more practice, he kept on dropping it. My mother was ready to run from the table. He even caught one of the eggs in his pocket where it broke drenching his whole shirt...well at least he tried :) Most of the food was pretty good: Filet Mignon....tender and juicy Shrimp...tender and juicy Chicken...too saucy and dry Miyako could use some work, but it is worth a try for an entertaining time. 3.2 Stars!

Really excited to try this place and was extremely disappointed. The food is bland. The worst part was the server, Amber. She forgot about the appetizers we ordered. I ordered a vodka and lime juice and she brought out straight vodka on the rocks. She brought our individual entrees out 15 minutes apart and forgot again about the salads we ordered. Terrible, terrible service. The food itself is less than decent. The Asian freezer section at Walmart would've sufficed better than this restaurant and would've cost 1/4 the price. WILL NOT BE RETURNING.

  • Cindy L.

I was excited about the restaurant because of the good reviews but I get there and we decided to have the hibachi and just order sushi with it. The hibachi was dry. I mean everything was dry. The rice the chicken and the veggies were just limp. Now I will say the sushi was to die for! It was fresh and came out quick. The wait staff was very friendly and on top of everything. So if you go stay away from the hibachi and just order the sushi.

Miyako is saved by their sushi and betrayed by everything else. Do yourself a favor and grab some sashimi then get the check. This would be a 1-star but the fish I ordered was so fresh it melted on my tongue. Avoid the miso soup, hibachi and salad. The miso has three half-dime sized pieces of tofu and the rest is broth. The salad is just white pieces of iceberg and the hibachi is a circus act with food drenched in soy. Garbage! My sister ordered the seaweed salad with cucumber and said it was good, but I'm skeptical. The above starters were not a good introduction and had me nervous about the fish I ordered. To my surprise (and delight) the fish was light butter and tasted right out of the water. Perhaps I got lucky on my selection. The hand rolls however ($7.95), did not have flavor at all so be careful with your selection. I ordered some tuna, salmon and halibut 6pcs each. The depth of flavor as the fish melted on my tongue was reminiscent of ice cream on a hot summers day. Sashimi is often served as an appetizer or a palate cleanser at the beginning of a meal. The fish is very thinly sliced and is usually served with an array of garnishes and sauces. I decided to finish with this due to the previous bad experience. Seaweed salad with cucumber so delish

It was pretty average. The cook could have had a better smile on his face but the server was very friendly. I came here for my bfs bday and they were cool about bringing in a cake. They also had a band of some sort and come sing happy birthday all together. Also, if its someone's birthday, the meal is free if the rest of the party orders an entree. They offer military discounts as well. Ciao!

This place is pretty amazingly delicious. You may be discouraged because it's located in a strip mall area, but boy this is some of the best sushi I have had in a long time. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because the wait staff is very friendly but inattentive.

  • J L.

Note, I had all of these on the second trip to Miyako as well. Perfectly made. My boss was very impressed with the sushi. Crazy tuna roll Komodo dragon maki Green hornet These are the rolls that I recommend. Excellent preparation. I was very surprised by the quality of the tuna and flavors. Not a run of mill sushi place that makes the same ol' rolls that you can buy at Harris Teeter during lunch. I high recommend this place.

My opinion, this is THE best sushi place in Augusta. I've been several times so far, and never have they had an "off" day. Their sushi is always fresh and top quality. The staff is extremely friendly and know how to treat their regulars. They also give a 10% military discount on the entire bill. Can't beat it! Now, I haven't tried their hibachi, so I can't speak for that. However I'm sure it's legit. I'd also like to take this opportunity to bash on Tako Sushi a little bit. Tako Sushi usually gets labeled as the "best" sushi restaurant because of their unique style of cuisine and decor (combining Mexican and Japanese?). However their sushi quality is lacking. I've gotten some obviously not-so-fresh fish there. Which is why Miyako's is now my top pick.

The sushi was amazing. I had the lobster tempura. The Hibachi dinner was just ok. The fried rice was not very tasty. The steak was not juicy and the meat was not cooked as I asked. The chicken was very dry and the lobster was overcooked. The service was very good and atmosphere friendly. The chef was ok but he had to have people keep lifting and bringing the plate to the food and then would just dump it on your plate. If I did return it would only be for the sushi.

Miyako Sushi and Stake house, standing on the corner of Washington rd. Shopping plaza was an absolute delight today. Being a sushi lover myself, I've discovered that not only they make great and fresh sushi, but they also provide a phenomenal customer service. The waiter was very attentive and checked back periodically to ensure that everything was OK. My water glass never got empty and that's one thing I value the most in service. I would truly recommend this place to any sushi lover. The prices are also very decent and are totally worth it.

Followed my Yelp friends here, and was not disappointed.. Had the Miso soup which was excellent. I will ask for a little more tofu in it next time, just because I like it that way. Asked the chef what was good, and he recommended the Green Hornet Roll they had on special. It is Soft Shell Crab, w/ avocado, topped w/ Lobster salad and a slice of Kiwi. The sauce was a combination of Eel sauce and a grape sauce. The differences between the textures and favors was amazing. Had sashimi.. Tuna, Salmon, and Yellowtail. All excellent quality. Saw the picture of the Amiebi, and ordered it. Was not disappointed. The quality and taste of the shrimp was excellent, and I loved the fried heads in eel sauce.. Reminded me of the first sushi experience w/ my daughter.. The green tea was great, and set off the meal. Only extractor for me was ordering from the waiter instead of the Sushi chef.. However, after trying a few times, I think my Texas accent caused the sushi chef some problems, so it turned out to be much easier to order from the waiter. Great service by my waiter, ahead of me on tea fill-ups and automatically brought water w/ lemon when he brought the tea. I can hardly wait for my next adventure here..

Ok, so Augusta only has a couple bright spots for sushi (Matsu Sige being the other). This place is comfortable, has great variety, and their raw items are always fresh. I've been here around 20 times in the past couple years and it is consistently good. I've tried most of the rolls and have never had one I didn't like (granted, I favor some over others). Plus, they do a military discount which is nice. I've never tried their hibachi and can't comment on it. For sushi, this is a winner.

I'm currently on a review extravaganza, so why not? Miyako deserves a 5 star which means as good as it gets... in Augusta. I've taken it for granted that sushi should be edible, so Miyako seemed like a meh sort of restaurant to me. However, a recent trip to some God forsaken place called Kyoto really woke me up. I love this place now! Ok, no more dramatics. The katsudon is pretty good. The seaweed salad and unagi don can't be failed because they come pre-packaged. The hibachi is an ode to butter (which is a good thing since I happen to like butter). The miso and salads I won't even bother with. As for the sushi, I've never ordered a roll, but from seeing others eat it, I say it is at least edible. I always just get sashimi. I can't really describe it, but you know the slight watery taste you get from thawed fish? It's hard to avoid of course (federal regulations and all that), but I've had some where you can't taste it at all. So relative to all those sushi restaurants in NY and Philadelphia, this place is a 2. But taking location and the cost of a plane ticket into consideration, this place is a 3. Not that it is bad, but if you are on vacation in Augusta (why?) and you expect this restaurant to exceed mediocrity, I am sorry. BTW, someone mentioned something about authenticity. Really? The fact that you would expect authentic Japanese in Augusta GA confounds me.

My husband and I went to Miyako for our 4th wedding anniversary. (I know I know, why only on special occasions?!) It was about 6:30pm on a Thursday. The staff was attentive and friendly, and the 'Out of Control Roll' was awesome. It was the perfect roll to choose to split because it has alternating pieces of sushi in twos. Two with fish, two with avocado, two with fish, etc. Delicious! (We had a big lunch earlier that his family insisted on, so unfortunately our poor stomachs could only handle one roll between the two of us. Sad face. Their special roll that they have going right now called The Himalayas sounded sooo good too! ) Sitting at the sushi bar we received a lovely tempura appetizer while waiting, and enjoyed listening to the sounds of a very detailed conversation from the folks next to us about zombie films, during the lulls in our own conversation. It couldn't get any better than that! :) Love Miyako, love their food, love their staff. If I had the funds, I'd eat my way through the entire menu! And not one word about sushi and me being 7 months pregnant! Fantastic! Of course, I'm not worried. Their food has always been fresh, and I chose to eat sushi for our anniversary because I feel energized afterwards! (Kind of like a good Subway sandwich with lots of veggies!) If I could be pregnant in Japan, believe me I would be, but this is the next best thing!

Great sushi menu. They do an awesome job with presentation. Best joint in the Augusta area that I have found so far.

Good hibachi and sushi. Good service. No surprises if you frequent hibachi restaurants. Our chef was really skilled.

Best Habachi food I've ever had!! Makes you glad we made up with them after Pearl Harbor! Looks dark and typical strip mall joint until you walk in. Eat with the show or without. We were hungry so we went without, the food is the same, but menu has more selections. Veggie plate and amazing shrimp, all at a great price that comes with rice, soup, salad, all in American size portions. (wear elastic) Server great but English pretty broken. Be ready to take home leftovers, come Before 6pm for lower prices. Full bar with 2 for 1 drinks, Lunch is the best deal in town. With Military 10% discount, large rooms, parties. Will be back every chance I get. See you there!

I'm editing my review after biting my tongue the past 2 years. I tell ya, sometimes you go here and the service is great and they genuinely seem to care about their customers then other times it's like they just want you to leave because they don't feel like working. Sad part is, I was probably one of their first customers 3 years ago and have gone over 20 times yet they still, the owners, don't recognize me or my family. Today we stopped in for lunch and we both ordered a $10 salad called "Fushion" and shared an appetizer of Beef Negimaki. Despite holding our baby they didn't provide a highchair until we asked after 10 minutes of waiting. The waitress came out with a small plate with our salad (emphasize small)...it was about 3 pieces of iceberg lettuce, about 4 ounces of fresh fish, and about 8 ounces of dressing spilling off the side. Make note this is lunchtime and this salad costs $10. Salad with no tomatoes and or cucumbers, carrots, etc. 3 pieces of iceberg lettuce and 4 ounces of fish for $10 not including tax...Took about 2 minutes to eat - I told the waitress we weren't happy with the salad that it was too small. She didn't care and just went "oh ok." The beef negimaki was tasty however let me tell you what is actually beef negimaki at Miyako. It's 6 bite size pieces of marinated beef wrapped in a thin layer of onion - so each piece is about the size of a pretzel bite. This costs $7...at lunchtime...on their lunch menu. Worst part came at time to pay the bill ad they still don't remember who I am and that I'm in the military. Total cost $27. I don't ever want to come back to this place - after repeated visits, they just don't care about you, I really have nothing good to say about this place anymore. Here's one last tip - smile to the customers, say hello, eye contact even. Their sushi sucks as well. If you still want to go despite reading this, just do the Hibachi and go during Happy Hour (which previously was fun)

AMBIENCE - B - (FUN teppanyaki experience - there's the dining side / sushi bar / and teppanyaki area - if you're going to get grilled food and don't mind and show... and yes, people... applaud... the chefs like to be recognized for their showmanship!) SERVICE - A - Our chef was entertaining (and I didn't mind dropping the few knifes here and there) but overall with 2 months of training, I was quite impressed with his juggling skills of knives and food) and servers were doting and made sure we always comfortable and needed anything. OH, the more you're interactive and fun with your chef the more he'll entertain you...don't know how to request this, but if you're nice he'll even squirt saki directly into your mouth! SWALLOW! FOOD - Had the fried calamari - sweet ocean flavors and delicate fried! The teppanyaki was okay...grilled scallops (good), steak (good), shrimp (good) , veggies (good). Lots of leftover rice! It's more about the show though... PRICE - I went during happy hour so that saved a few bucks!

Not too shabby. As always I like to investigate ethnic eatery's when on a business, and i wanted some place quiet to watch the game, so Japanese was the way to go. When I got there, I got a nice sample of Seaweed salad from one of the chef's which was a major plus off the bat, and yes, I'll be ordering that the next time around, hey its what they wanted right!? to suck you in. I had the chicken teriyaki with miso soup and salad and all was a pleasure to feast on. It was tender properly, tastey, and steamed/cooked well. The sake took a while to come but am I really going to hold that against them? Between the nice workers there, good food, and chill atmosphere, I'll be sure to visit again but umm... not to watch the game cause I really wanted to yell at times, haha. Also, from the outside its disguised as a mall bar, but its flipped as you enter.

Great! Miyako has become my family's go-to place for sushi around the Fort Gordon area. Great service and the sushi easily rivals the quality that I am used to growing up around Japantown San Francisco. Recommended! P.S. Try the crab salad!

Having a job that takes me all over the country, I've gotten to try at least 2 dozen different Japanese Steakhouses in the last couple years, and this is easily near if not at the top of the list. Large portions of high quality food at very reasonable prices. Our chef (ask for chef Boy-R-Dee) was very entertaining and did all the usual tricks along with some that only a few places do such as catching food off the spatula. They offered 2-4-1 drinks and free Saki shots as well. I'll definitely go out of my way to go back next time I'm near Augusta.

During my exile to Augusta for the holidays, we went here for lunch. My mom and sister had gotten take out from there and raved about the food. We dined in this time and even though there were only 3 of us at the table, the chef came out and cooked for us like it was a full house. All of the food was good and my favorite was the fried rice. I could eat buckets of that stuff and be happy. I'm not sure what makes it taste so good, but maybe I don't want to. Also, the price can't be beaten. It was $9 for chicken, fried rice, soup, & veggies. Throw in my soda and tip and I was out of there for under $12. That's unheard of for these kinds of places. The dinner prices looked equally affordable. The restaurant was also clean and well laid out. The staff was friendly and attentive without being hovering. I'll definitely come back here the next time I get dragged back into Disgusta.

Excellent food and service may be enjoyed at Miyako. I wanted to try a little of everything, so I ordered one of the Bento boxes and swapped for a different sushi roll and fried rice. I was very happy and will try to return while I'm in town. GREAT PLACE!

Definitely lived up to its Yelp reputation. Amazing sushi rolls at fair prices, Hibachi, and friendly servers. Birthday people get a free meal and they also offer military discounts!

This is a really fun place. Hibachi: you get a ton of food and a show for about 15 - 20 per person Regular dining table: the place is somewhat new, so everything is nice and trendy. Sushi Bar: Sitting here is fun. They have really cool lighting in the bar area, so this is my favorite of the three ways to eat here. The service here is top notch. I've always been impressed at the speed of the wait staff. The sushi is good. the regular dishes are also good, however I have come across one or two odd things that I wish i hadn't ordered, including a noodle dish that came with a ton of eggs scrambled into it.. the menu could have done a better job explaining that. That being said, this place is a must-try if you are a fan of japanese food and/or sushi. They have great specials earlier in the evening, around 5 or 6ish, including some sushi specials, discounts, and B1G1 alcoholic drinks.

We visited Miyako for lunch and were not disappointed. I got the red caterpillar, Komodo dragon and Dolphin (?) roll. Each were terrific and full of fresh fish or tempura. The next time I visit I'm getting an angry dragon roll, because it looked complex and adventurous. I definitely recommend this spot.

So I was driving from Atlanta to Columbia...in the rain...on a monday,...and was hungry for sushi... I turned to YELP, and once again you delivered! Not only acceptable sushi, but pretty darn great! Very clean, nice selection of specialty rolls. They do the classics well and their fish is fresh. The Pink Lady was great! They also do Hibachi, and looked like everyone was enjoying it, but if you find yourself in Augusta craving sushi...this place is the deal.

The sushi from Miyako's qualifies in the top three places I have ever had sushi. The best place I have ever had sushi was Thai Sushi in Naples, FL and second goes to Miyako's, beating out another place in Seattle. Yes, it is that good. I have yet to have a roll I did not enjoy. The main sushi rolls are upwards of $10 and are well worth it in addition to filling you up. The hibachi is the best in town and they are generous with the Saki. They have great drink specials during the week. The staff shows great customer service and remembers the regulars, such as myself. Hands down, the best place for sushi in the CSRA!

One of the best Hibachi/Teppanyaki experiences I have had. The restaurant was empty, but the food and service were amazing. Our chef was interactive, and had some serious skills and enthusiasm for what he was doing. I had the filet mignon and shrimp combo and both were excellent. Every Hibachi meal comes with soup, salad, shrimp, rice, vegetables and whatever meat you choose (they even have a veggie option for those that care). I haven't tried their sushi yet, but it is now on my list of things to do. It looked like they had a pretty good early bird special before 6pm as well.

Wow! What a surprise to find really good Japanese in Augusta! Brittany & Rachele were great servers, the sushi was good, the fried rice has sake added (yummy) and the prices were good, in all a nice time. I'd go back...

I've been here twice and it's easily the best sushi place in the CSRA. That being said, it pales in comparison to sushi establishments in large cities on the coast.

Great food and generous portions. Best fried rice I've ever had. Generous with the saki. Charlie is the best hibachi chef ever!

Can I say legit !! wow... even compared to CA... I was very surprised by the sashimi dish I ordered... even the Tepanyaki is great also.. and the cook has good fun... I basically got a free saki because he kept feeding me more for free.... I'm definitely going back

Was looking for good sushi and was not disappointed. The fish was fresh and had good flavor, the only item that was not so tasty was the mackerel. Plus, could not beat the happy hour special of buy one get one of both sapporo and sake... can you say sake bomb. Will be going back to try the hibachi grill area.

Nice restaurant in a strip mall specializing in Hibachi. Good service with a sushi chef seemingly knowledgeable about the cuts and preparation. The fish selection is sub-par, got the sushi regular with seven nagiri, but came out with only three different types of fish. not the best. The California roll was a compromise as well. three types of sake, local American strip mall vibe. I'm going to try Miyabe next, if its not better this will be my regular place.

Me and my husband absolutely love this restaurant!!!!! The food is always fresh and cooked well. The chefs are very entertaining. This was the first restaurant we took our brand new daughter too because I was craving Hibachi 2 weeks after she was born.

The hibachi grill was good. I have had better, but this was a good value for the price. As someone on vacation looking to try new spots, I wouldn't come back, just because I can get the same thing at home, but as a local I would definitely be back.

Miyako is a 5-star restaurant when viewed in the context of its surroundings: the CSRA. I will spare you the Augusta rant today, and will leave you unfulfilled with the knowledge that Miyako is objectively good, but not great, This restaurant was previously (like months ago) called "Kobe" or something like that, and experienced a ton of new business when it opened about a year or two ago with its fancy fountain and sheek modern decor. Best of all, they offered 50% off all sushi for an indefinite amount of time. That's probably what led to them going out of business and changing their name to Miyako and smashing the fountain with a sledge hammer (witnessed by me). Maybe the fountain contained some bad Qi, I don't know.. When I first moved to Augusta, I went on a manhunt for tasty sushi, because my wife has a limited, yet discerning palatte, and I would sell my birthright for a bento box of sashimi. When you walk in the restaurant, to your immediate left is the sushi area, and straight ahead is an array of Hibachi tables. The sushi area is decorated modern-lounge style. There are clusters of tall-backed leather chairs surrounding small coffee tables, which I have never seen occupied by anyone, accompanied by an equally lonely bar. Then there are some tables and booths, the lighting is low, there's a cool globe chandelier. I feel like I want to become a tech-savvy Japanese business man, tired after a long day battling Mothra and Ghidora in the streets of Tokyo, plopping down at the sushi bar with "real Japanese sushi chefs" and sip some kirin ichiba. The sushi is decent quality but GREAT presentation. They have many different shaped dishes, and they present their food well. I recommend the Sushi Entree, because A) the jew in me is always looking for a deal, B) its a ton of bang for the buck. There is your standard fare of sushi rolls with a good selection of over-priced specialty rolls as well. The sweet potato tempura leaves what to be desired, kind of soggy and doesnt have the characteristic *crunch* that gets me all riled up, and I've seen a hair in the miso before. But I look beyond it, because of all the sushi restaurants in Augusta, it has the best ambiance, the best presentation, and the prices are midrange. The service is standard for Augusta: slow. But you're not gonna get better service elsewhere, so get over it. If you like sushi and are in the CSRA, this should be in your top 3.

I came to Miyako with a couple colleagues for dinner on a Monday evening and we ate in the dinning area near the entrance and sushi bar. The room was dark lit and had a cheap-feeling modern lounge decor that I didn't particularly care for. I ordered a variety of sushi, which I found quite tasty and on par with many of the japanese/sushi restaurants I've experienced. One of my mates had fried rice (yes, boring) that she wasn't particularly fond of. I would give Miyako 3 stars, but the service was horrible. We had a very young waitress who was gone and out of sight for the vast majority of our meal. She was gone so long that we weren't sure if she was coming back and we had to ask the sushi chef for our waitress. :) Based on the generally positive yelp reviews for Miyako, I was a bit disappointed in our experience. Perhaps the hibachi is a better experience. 2 stars is being quite forgiving.
