Don't let the cutesy rhetorical flourish of the last reviewer lull you into an unintended belly ache. I should have listed to the little voice in the back of my head screaming "abort, abort, abort" when I walked in. Word of advice: if any restaurant is deserted at 700p at night...run. Do not walk, run. I ordered kung pao beef which was delivered to me as kung pao chicken. Strike 1. I asked for it extra, super duper spicy - not even close. Strike 2. The kung pao whatever-it-was had the same generic orange sauce that my dinner mates had on their General Tso's chicken and something else. Strike 3. If you have never had REAL Chinese food before - House of Nan King, SF, CA, House of Dynasty, Alexandria, VA or Peking Gourmet, Falls Church, VA - then this place may past muster. If you have, cut a w-i-d-e berth around this dump and hit Papa John's for dinner. At least you won't be disappointed. Sorry, "hard-working Asian mom." Your food is weak, your restaurant borders on gross, and the lack of attention to my order is deplorable.

Okay, Augusta. You have something amazing going on here... and I suggest you check it out - if you want to know what AUTHENTIC tastes like. What is that? Lotus Express. Lotus Chinese... depending on the day - I'm prone to calling it different things... but the one thing I do call it is CONSISTENTLY GOOD :) I'm going to tell you straight out that you're not going to want to visit this place for its ambiance. You might even want to order out... but, I don't suggest this... the food is ALWAYS so quick to come out - and if you're like me - you'd like your dishes piping hot without the whole Styrofoam condensation nonsense. Plus, there's always that chance that your fork or chopstick stabs through the container, and no one likes that. ...just eat on a plate. The WONDERFUL lady here always remembers my face when I come in the door. She's got that hard-working Asian-mom vibe about her and she doesn't speak much English for conversation - but she sure does do her talking through the food she cooks. The hot and sour soup?!?? To die for. Awesome, spicy... and NOT some weird orange color like I've had out here. ...it's got mushrooms, tofu, scallions, and all the other stuff that is SUPPOSED to go into hot and sour soup. OH. ...and it's hot and sour - in case you didn't catch that in the title - it's a prerequisite. :) Egg drop soup - best I've had in this city, hands down... it saves me when I'm too lazy to make my own. Won Ton soup - I'm usually not a fan of Chinese Won Ton Soup - it's just the pasta (yes, it's a pasta) - floating in the broth - with a few pieces of pork for flavoring... whereas Vietnamese Won Tons are something like "meat stuffed dumplings"... but holy cow - I think they might even make theirs here. They're thick and filling and it's good. Oh wow. I never thought I'd like Chinese won ton soup like this. :) All of their dishes including vegetables are perfect - everything is always cooked to the point where there's still a bit of crunch. That's the way it's supposed to be done... no limp celery or cabbage to be found here. :) On top of that, classic dishes like their Chicken Lo Mein - which has generous portions of chicken thrown in - is great because it lacks that whole "Americanized Chinese" salt-overload-ZOMG-need-water.... feeling. ...Try it. You'll be surprised at the fact that this is nothing like the Chinese food you've been eating. If you're perceptive - you might even find a hint of five spice. YAY! Bottom line. The food is good. Real good... OH! ...and I forgot to mention freaking cheap as all heck.... with huge portions. If you want to feel like you've invaded an Asian home and want to try what the food REALLY tastes like... I highly suggest checking this place out. This is one of the few places I'll miss when I leave Augusta. Seriously. The food never fails to bring a smile to my face.

Worst Chinese restaurant in the Augusta area. Took my family there, and we all thought it was disgusting. We were the only customers there, and we should have taken that as a warning. The service was slow for an empty restaurant. The food tasted so bad I was worried about getting food poisoning. I have a cast iron stomach luckily, and was able to keep it down.

Let start by saying I'm from Hawaii. I am on Fort Gordon for school. Being from Hawaii I have to say that I think I know what good Chinese food should taste like. I ordered the Mongolian Beef, Egg drop soup, and Hot chicken wings. I'll start with the large order of egg drop soup first. It looked like egg drop soup should. I had an amble amount of egg in it. It was little salty for my taste. When it was delivered it was still hot, which is always a plus. The large is more then enough to feed 2 people with some left over for seconds. The hot chicken wing order had 10 wings. 8 were wings and 4 were drumsticks. Basically it comes dipped in a spicy sauce with a lot of dried chili flacks. It wasn't as hot as I was expecting but what do you expect. Other than not being that spicy the wings came hot and just added to the dinner I was having. Now to the main dish. I ordered a large Mongolian beef. I like spicy food and couldn't pass on the mongolian beef. To my surprise the beef was a little spicy. But then again not as spicy as I expected it. It had plenty of beef, onions, and green onions. I like onions but I think the chef tonight got a little carried away with the onions. The order came with white rice. Being that I was born and raised in Hawaii rice is a food staple. To my surprise the rice was a little sticky. But I did have a few bits that had some dried out old rice. This happens when the rice has sat to long in a warmer. Other then those few bits the rice was good too. Over all the food I got was hot and tasted good. Everything can't be perfect but this was close enough.

Like any other Chinese "express" place, Lotus Express delivers food that fills you while leaving just enough flavor to come back for more. The staff is friendly enough but much of the food tastes old(er). It really is a typical Chinese buffet place and I wouldn't mind recommending to anyone looking for a quick bite.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
