This place wasn't that great. My wife and I had dinner here last night for the first time to satisfy a sushi craving Prices were expensive compared to the quality of sushi we got (e.g $12 for a bowl of udon) . The scallops and fried rice were so salty and greasy we asked the waiter to have it remade. Sushi rolls were dry and didn't taste fresh. We wanted sashimi also but were unimpressed with the quality of food we got so far. I'm from CA also and have paid even more $$$ to eat sushi far better than at Kyoto. The quality of sushi and Asian food in general served at this restaurant didn't match the prices they are asking. You can get better sushi for half the price at your local supermarket. Service wise, our waiter was fantastic. But the hostess that seated us and also took our credit card to run the bill could use an attitude improvement. Won't be returning to this restaurant in the near future.

Quality has slowly been going down hill, used to be a favorite but today was the last time for me, I ordered the udon noodles and shrimp and vegetable tempura and received one shrimp with some vegetables and two pieces of chicken, I don't think that chicken tempura is even on the menu, was told by wait staff that I was supposed to receive 2 pieces of shrimp which still sounds a little on the not worth it side for me!

Two stars again Kyoto. Why must you be this way?! WHYYYY?! My sister-in-law politely asked for a substitution to be made since she is a vegan. She wanted the cucumber roll instead of the standard california roll in her bento box. They said that this was impossible because, "They have to make the whole roll all at once." Well by all means, make a whole cucumber roll all at once, MY GOD! That really shouldn't matter if the goal is Customer Service. A true Japanese sushi chef can make smaller rolls, leading to less waste, and apparently, higher customer satisfaction. Because they CAN, and they DO. But not here at Kyoto. She had to pick a great many things out of her meal and give it to us omnivores instead. I personally think that this sheds a bad light on a business, if they can't take the time to avoid cross-contamination with their vegan customers. Which should be SUPER EASY to do when you're dealing with Japanese Food, since there can be a lot of veggies involved, and plenty of surface cleaning aids, and extra gloves are always on hand. Once again, my meal was mediocre, and the salmon skin hand roll was not consistent. When you run a restaurant, you have to make sure that every chef makes every dish exactly the same way. Inconsistency drives away customers. They have better rolls at the Krogers on Columbia or Washington Road, honestly. My tuna/crab spring roll came on a bed of soy sauce, that had soaked halfway through by the time it got to me. I said I was only giving you one more chance, and you failed miserably. Just.....go to Miyako. For God's sake. SAVE YOURSELVES!!!!!

This was one of the times where I really wanted to like it because the service and atmosphere were great. Unfortunately, the food left much to be desired and a somewhat rotten aftertaste in my mouth. I did not order anything but the sushi so this is purely based off that and not their hibachi/teriyaki specialties. I ordered the sashimi appetizer, a spicy tuna handroll, and a simple yellowtail roll. Something was wrong with their yellowtail...it tasted like rotten barbeque when, in reality, it was fish that normally tastes delightful. This scared me into not eating most of the other foods (some of which did not taste absolutely horrible) and stopped me from eating any more yellowtail. Bad bad bad. I cannot return to this place again until they change their fish supplier or at least throw out the bad fish before it reaches the customer's plate. Unfortunately, Kyoto lives up to the concept that sushi eating in small-town Georgia is a bad idea. Maybe their stirfry is great though! To end on a positive note; their prices were very reasonable, the service and atmosphere were great!

They don't have the best food, but it's fast and fairly cheap.

Excellent Monster Roll! The seafood in it was very fresh. The Spicy Cucumber Salad was good too. I think I will ask for the spicy sauce on the side next time though because it was very hot!

This is the place to go for lunch. I went to Kyoto as a spur of the moment lunch idea. I will be returning there very soon. It is convenient, and inexpensive (in my opinion) for the quality and the amount of food I received . The staff recognizes that it is lunch and many of us are pressed for time. My meal arrived quickly and my steak was cooked just like I asked.

I used to like this place despite some of the negative views but now I think I've rolled the dice too many times with this restaurant. I went for lunch and maybe 6 tables were taken at the time. I opted for a salad in place of the broth they bring before sushi orders and my iceberg lettuce had reddish brown marks on them as well as a few slimy dark green almost black colored lettuce in between. I returned the salad and got soup instead. The waitress keep apologizing by telling me that she only brings the food out and "they" prepare it. Lol. SMDH Two days prior I ordered take out sushi and asked for 2 orders of the fresh spring rolls and some other items. I was on a schedule and so I ordered ahead to avoid waiting. Well, when I get there, the lady behind the cash register gives me my food and I settle my bill and start to leave. I knew my bag felt quite light as I've ordered the same the thing in the past and my bill was a lot less too. So I stopped at the door, searched my bag and realized that the person that took my order over the phone ordered the fried spring rolls (like egg rolls) instead of the sushi fresh spring rolls that I ordered. So she apologized and told me that the chef would remake my order. In most establishments when an order is wrong and they try to correct it, they usually make that order their priority. But not here. Five minutes had passed and I still haven't received my order as I watched the chef make other orders and the waitresses delivered them to the various tables in the restaurant. So I asked for my money back and then all of the sudden, it became a priority to them. I got my order in less than 3 mins after I demanded my money back. Bad business

I am an huge sushi lover and decided to try this place out. I'm sad to say that was very disappointed. I've never found sushi that I flat out didn't like. I couldn't even eat it all. The avocado was bad the crab was bad imitation crab I would not ever come here again. Soup was good though.

This place has excellent service. Some of the best hibachi chicken and steak I have ever had from a Japanese steak and sushi house. Highly recommended

Looking at the reviews for Kyoto Japanese Cuisine, it seems they can be hit or miss. Just based on the reviews alone, I may not have eaten here. After my first visit, it wasn't THAT bad (recommended by friend). It may not be the best sushi you eat, but for the area and price it works. - Easily $20pp (unless you pig-out) - Friendly service - Food takes a bit to come out - Inexpensive prices - Needs more Sashimi - See my photos! The main reason they get 3-stars is because for some reason they use a California Roll as a base for a few rolls they shouldn't. I don't order anything with a Cali roll base, so my options were limited. The sushi wasn't "out of the water" fresh, but if you're expecting that you shouldn't be eating sushi so far inland. The quality was still good, no old chewy fish here. We ordered a few different rolls, did some table sharing with friends and there wasn't a single roll between us that I didn't enjoy. The nigiri I ordered came with a good portion of fish, although I would have preferred sashimi (only platter options). I picked up the Rock and Roll ($8.49), Crazy Crab Roll ($9.99), Sunny Roll ($9.49), and Smoked Salmon Nigiri 2pcs ($3.99). Out of all of theses, the Sunny Roll was my favorite as it had a ton more flavor.

I'm giving them a 1 star because I can't give them a zero. service was ok but it took awhile for our sushi and sashimi to come out. I seen it sitting on the counter for ten minutes and I was waiting for my waiter to tell him it was up there. If it wasn't for my wife calming me down I was going to get up and go get our food from the sushi bar and when we got it. The sashimi was warm and the sushi was awful we told The owner and she did nothing and she made us pay for the food we didn't eat. NEVER EAT HERE.

No No No! Eating Sushi in Augusta, what was I thinking??? I have to say I've had better Sushi coming from a grocery store. Maybe the hibachi grill keeps people coming back (I won't be). I gave this place generous 2 stars as it was neat and clean with good service.

Courteous service but the food is not so good. DO NOT get the miso soup. It's from an instant packet.

Sushi is the best and freshest in town! Love their hibachi meals, too! The staff greets me and remembers me when I come to eat in or carry out. Great place for a Japanese fix!

I want to love this place so bad... But lately the food has been terrible. The owner is also extremely rude. She refuses to correct any mistakes they make. I always ask them to hold the cream cheese in my sushi.. And once when they failed to do that... the owner refused to correct my order. I mean really ? I use to love their sushi but it has been awful lately! The chef is never consistent with the rolls. And the sushi has not been fresh. We ordered to go tonight and I cannot even eat my shrimp tempura roll. The rice is stale and tastes funky . The sunny roll... once again they failed to hold the cream cheese.. So what the chef did was poke them out and my sushi literally fell apart. The Fish tasted so funky!! The 3rd roll we ordered called the crazy crab was soggy and very oily which is very weird. I cannot eat that greasy soggy crap! I ordered sushi not a McDonald's hamburger!! My husbands meal was just as bad. Soaked in soy sauce and the rice tastes like crap! I am never eating here again. This is the 3rd time I have wasted money on this stale crap! This restaurant use to be amazing ! Now it's gone downhill. I recommend you eat somewhere else when craving sushi

Was very reserved about this place considering the reviews and the menu seemed somewhat sparse for the sushi but this was very good sushi. The amount of fish they put in the rolls is very generous. I prefer this place to Miyako.

Man this place is great ! the prices were awesome and the food was delicious !! only reason I gave this place a 4 star instead of 5 is I have a place that is my favorite here. The sashimi pieces are huge !!!! I mean huge !!!! and very good quality too !! and I'm from CA and I have great sashimi in CA so I think I'm qualified in saying this place is damn good. so go and enjoy
