This sushi was bad. I should always go with my intuition because we walked in on a Saturday at lunch time and this place was EMPTY. I'm always up for trying places I have never been and I always see this place passing on Northside, but STAY AWAY at all costs. The sushi was bad, the drinks were bad....even the Thai tea which I love. Tried to be adventerous with the Mango Sticky Rice dessert...disgrace. Nothing good to say. Don't be fooled by the ambiance, the website, or a living social deal. Not worth it.

Seven coworkers and I visited Zen today for lunch and experienced what others have described during their lunch period. Not very full, but slow and neglectful service. The portions were tiny considering the price. The server was apologizing about the wait for the food before he even put in the order citing the fact that "everyone else had ordered sushi, so it would take longer." Service was lacking, food unspectacular, and the price unjust. No thanks.

I love this place- We eat here about once a week. The food is always fresh and delicious the service is impeccable and the decor is stunning! There is a wide Asian variety on their affordable menu. Also they offer Fish bowl drinks :) Giant drinks for 10 bucks you cant beat that. On some nights they do have live music - which im sure some people like -but the place is small so anything beyond acoustic is a bit much.

I used to live at Tenside, when Zen on Ten first opened and it was our GO TO spot for all things asian fusion. It has been about 4 or 5 years since then, and I am still guaranteed to be back atleast once a month, eventhough I am way up in Brookhaven now. Their sushi is always SO FRESH and delicious. I have never been disappointed and the freshness is really something that sets them apart from other sushi places in Atlanta. Favorite Sushi Rolls: Rainbow Roll Super Crunchee Roll Shrimp Extreme Roll I have also opted for some of the curries on the menu and an appetizer here or there. My favorite is the Panang Curry with any of the protein options. I always get mine a little extra spicy and they get it right every time. So milky and smooth, just utterly delicious. Their basil rolls, egg rolls, side salads, and soups are good as well. They also have a large variety of drinks on the menu, from martinis to fishbowls to saki, all yummy as well, although the fish bowls can tend to be a bit on the sweet side. I will be back!

Pretty interior but food was overpriced and pretty bland. I ordered the sesame chicken.

I've dined in before and the curries are great, but we had delivery via Zifty today and it was actually pretty amazing. Everyone in the office enjoyed their dishes and the Larb-Kai was awesome.

Worst dining experience I could possibly have. My friends and I were looking forward to a great meal. We spent 30 minutes waiting for our drinks which were eventually served one trip from the bar at a time. It took an hour and a half waiting on my brothers food, all of the food came out at a different time, drinks were made poorly, multiple health code violations were made, dead roaches on the floor, bathrooms were dirty... Come to find out they have a low health score but not nearly as low as it should've been. The temperature in the restaurant was very high for a sushi joint and the waitress said it was bad architecture. We spent an additional 30 minutes waiting on our checks which we asked for three times because the waitress kept going to the bar and sitting down and when we got them, she had printed them completely wrong. The manager came over he told us that everything was fine and for us to stop worrying about it. If you would like to risk your life by eating contaminated food please dine here. If you want awful service, this is the place. enjoy.

I decided to write a review for the first time, although I started going here in September 09. I recently moved, and constantly miss Zen on Ten. With authentic, perfectly seasoned Thai and fresh, quality sushi in the same space, it is perfect for groups with mixed tastes. The cocktail menu is extensive, and the fish bowls are a steal... They are huge! The space is beautiful yet casual with high ceilings an extremely clean dining room. I love their soups, curry, and sushi specials. It was always a great place to pick and choose different items on the menu. Tom, the owner, is beyond nice and welcoming! If you haven't been, go! I know I did 1-2x a week when I lived in Atlanta. I miss it!

I've been going to this place off and on since it opened in 2009 mostly because it's very convenient for me. Their service is always really good, very friendly although they have lots of turnover. The owner is a wonderfully happy man who is always there and very welcoming. They have a good drink menu with lots of fun martinis and fish bowls. They even have karaoke and live music some nights so its a good atmosphere. Ultimately you go to restaurants to eat and the food is always hit or miss. I've even started sticking to the "Thai" side of the menu and avoiding the sushi altogether after a few bad experiences. It's worth a try, and fun for drinks but I would say to stick with cooked items from their menu because you never know with the sushi.

Really good food, great service. Only wish location was closer to me and sushi took a little bit. Overall, I would definitely return!

I don't review often but seeing lots of negatives is making me chime in here. I've been twice times and had a great experience each time and was popping back over looking at hours for a dinner meetup this week. One of my girlfriends is vegetarian and she really enjoyed Zen on Ten the first time we went and my other gf and I had a good time when she and I went just a couple of months back. The service wasn't speedy but we were in no hurry and enjoyed the live music which I normally hate in restaurants. I love Thai food and have to say their Pad-kee-mao and spicy basil dishes are both great and they serve generous portions too. While I'm not a sushi fan my girlfriend is a bit of a sushi snob and she was pretty happy and says she'll be happy to return as well.

The owner is new as of the summer, so new management from before guys! I think the food here is ok. I've always had their pad kee mao, pad thai, or penang curry, and all are ok. I think their sushi is pricey so I haven't tried it yet... I give 4/5 because the owner knows my boyfriend and I as we frequented so often, so it's a very familiar and comfortable place, save for the very small crowds that frequent this place. In terms of aesthetics, this place is beautiful, and the food is usually very artfully arranged. The servers here are of mixed origins and have very mixed accents that can be hard to decipher; twice, they have mussed my order, and though I don't mind because my company is an absolute darling and tell me to calm down, I still don't appreciate it.

I went here yesterday. Loved my experience. Sat at the Bar. Jonathan was my waiter and he did a wonderful job. We were looking for something deep fried and he recommended the Yummy Roll. And it was just that, yummy. I will be going back today for more. Lol

The food is bad....REALLY bad. The spicy tuna rolls weren't too awful compared to the spider rolls which were by far one of the nastiest sushi rolls I have ever had the misfortune of tasting. Smelly, fishy, icky, with a capital ICK. The chicken lettuce wraps were the best thing we ordered but that was just by comparison to how absolutely vile the the chicken teriyaki tasted. I felt sorry for our waitress having to work in this fowl place. She was very nice and gave us good service.

I had a reservation on Valentines Day. I get to the restaurant there is a crowd of people waiting to be seated with no one at the hostess stand checking people in. I finally track down an employee and informed him of my reservation he said ok and never returned. I heard from another waiting guest that they were not honoring reservations and were seating first come first serve. My reservation was at 8:00 at 8:30 while I still had not been checked in I just left. The customer service is AWFUL!!! I ended up at Tamarind Seed which made up for Zen on Ten. I was seated promptly and the food and service was excellent. I will never go back to Zen on Ten and I would not recommend this place to anyone especially if it is a busy night.

In a fat kid kind of mood, I ordered a Thai iced tea at Zen on Ten the other day. It's so creamy, earthen and filling - just as satisfying as two oatmeal pies when I was a pleasantly rotund child. Moving along, I scarfed a spicy tuna roll and four pieces of smoked salmon sashimi. Perhaps I wrongly associate smoked salmon with lox. But still, the salmon contained no smoky flavor. My dining companion shone as the best part of the meal. Thank God for awesome people who live in my office's vicinity.

This was recommended by a friend, so I thought maybe I just had a bad experience, but then I saw the 2.5 star average on Yelp and really wasn't surprised. I will give 2 stars instead of 1 for two reasons: 1) I didn't eat in, so I can't really rate those elements like atmosphere and service, and 2) The recipe for my dish (Hawaii Rice) was interesting and yummy, just the execution sucked. So here's the three issues I had with Zen on Ten and, no, I won't ever order from/go there again. 1) The chicken in my Hawaii Rice was like roofing shingles. 2) The avocado in my California Roll was tangy and brown, in that rotten way. 3) My friend that ordered with me had to pick BONES OUT OF HIS SUSHI. I have never seen nor heard of sushi with bones in it till now...ew. Final note is that we ordered through Zifty, and Zifty truly effed this up. We didn't wind up getting our lunch till 2:30 for a lunch meeting that was supposed to end at 2:00. I'm not holding that against Zen on Ten. It's possible the quality of the chicken was compromised by a wait and/or reheat, but that's the restaurant's responsibility to send me quality food if they have decided to do business with Zifty. Also, I doubt food sitting for an hour will cause avocado to rot or add bones to sushi. Now I'm getting angry...

Good sushi! Calamari was just...ehh. Atmosphere and bar area is pretty cool. This place is never busy, which I think is because of the location but I was pleased.

Love the fish bowls there! Always a great deal!!!!! the Nam Tok Beef salad here is awesome!!!! Spoon ain't got nothing on them when it comes to the Nam Tok!!! The papaya salad is so delicious too! So full of flavor! This is what I call authentic Thai food! NOT Spoon! Tom the own is always so nice and welcoming!!!! And when he is not there the staff still takes great care of us!!!!

We went to check out Zen on Ten a few weeks ago after Josh was recommended there by a client. The restaurant was pretty empty, and there was a guy playing guitar and singing which was cool but a bit loud in such an empty dining room. Our service was fairly quick and our server wasn't annoying or anything. We decided to split a sampling of different things, so we got miso soup, a salad, a dragon roll and an order of chicken pad thai. All of the food was pretty good (especially the dragon roll,) however the portion of pad thai was really small for how much it cost. We also started off with two of their double espresso martinis which were good but also kind of small and weak for $9 each. I will say I was very impressed with the owner. He is one of the only reasons this place gets 4 stars. He came to our table to check on us, told us about himself and how he started the restaurant and was generally just very friendly and made us really feel like he cared. He talked me into trying one of their $10 fishbowl drinks and it was GREAT! Im usually weary of specials like this, but I gotta say I was pleasantly surprised. A huge drink that was just the right level of strength and tasted delicious. Generally I enjoyed my time here, but I did feel it was pretty expensive for what we got. Next time I will skip the overpriced martinis and go straight for that fishbowl again!

food are not fresh. Actually, one of my friend complained that shrimps might be dipped in chemicals and they just tasted nauseating. Sushi there cannot be compared with shushi from sushi-hulu. Not authentic, not fresh. Obviously over-priced a lot. Owned by some southeast Asian guy.

This place has great lunch specials for under $10. You can be in and out in an hour. The service and food were both good. Both times I got the curry. I haven't tried the sushi, but it looked delish. I'll have to try it and report back :-)

Just moved to the ATL and into the building and was craving some decent asian food. Hey what about that asian-fusion place downstairs?? They had some interesting entrees there, but I wanted something safe and familiar so went with the chicken pad thai to go. Don't know if it was me taking too long to pick up the food but the chicken was pretty dry. The noodles were pretty good though. Also tried the thai iced tea - blended. Not really a fan of the slushee type of drink but the liquid part was pretty good...too bad it was under a layer of ice. $15+ for chicken pad thai and thai iced tea was a little more than I was used to paying for a Monday night meal, but what are you gonna do with zero food in the fridge. I'm sure I'll be back but mainly because it's just downstairs. Otherwise, the decor was nice...

Very nice serve staff but order was wrong, sushi scarce and price way too high for the quality & quantity. The veggie tempura roll was all broccoli and raw flour. Never again. Try Publix sushi instead.

What a delightful find on Northside which seems to have only fast food joints. Service is great. Love the interior. Sushi is fresh with creative and flavorful twists on old favorites. I tried the Thai today and the Panang with chicken was just as good as Tamarind.

Well let me break it down to you like this....service was unsatisfactory! As soon as I walked with a group of friends the waitress would not take us to our seat. Even if it was later in the evening it still nice to be guided through a new restaurant...or in this case a place so it would be in sight and convienece of the waitress. The food was really slow coming out. I split a sushi roll (Dynamite roll...DA BOMB) and got a Thai Chicken Salad and Edamame Wonton soup. Over all, the sushi was the best. The soup....mehhh. Not awesome. The idea of it was much better. The Thai Chicken salad was awful. It was like lettuce with curry dumped all over it that would be used in like a red curry dish. The crunchy things on top was annoying too. I tasted my friends Pad Thai and it was just okay. We had to get up twice and find the waitress to get her to check on the food because it was taking a long time. And another to give us the bill. Very not cool. I really like the idea of of how they have karaoke on Mondays and live bands on the weekend. Fish bowl drink special for $10 dollars is quite tempting also. Food and service wise...SPOON IS WAY BETTER

At the beginning of my meal here last Friday night, I thought my server was friendly, helpful, and patient. At the end of my experience I felt like she was one of the girls from the nail salon who'd been talking smack in a language I didn't know but smiled and took my money. :( What's more amazing is that I managed to hand over $50 and have no idea what I got in return! I LOVE Thai food and eat quite frequently. I've never spent $50 eating it on only my own meal and a drink. What's more amazing is that I was actually disappointed in the food! It was way too frilly and "Americanized". Zen on Ten, I say to you, "boooo hiss!"

The yellow curry here is fine with a nice spicy kick, if slightly on the creamy side. The serving is generous, but is not served with enough rice for the dish. The only thing I think they have going for them over Spoon is larger portions. Otherwise a pretty unmemorable lunch experience.

Decent sushi. Nothing special. You would think that it was going to fantastic though given how long it takes to arrive. Servers and hostess nice and appear competent. But, the actual sushi chefs are among the slowest anywhere.

Zen on Ten is a beautiful new Thai and Japanese restaurant on the West side, run by the same folks that operate King and I in Ansley Park. They've got a few rough spots that need to be worked on, but for the most part my dinner here was pretty damn good. I came with a group of friends -- groups always prove a challenge to restaurants and if they're not at the top of their game, the weaknesses stand out pretty clearly. While our server was very sweet and tried hard to ensure our needs were met, she seemed a bit frazzled and made a couple of small mistakes -- wrong dishes, messed up bills, etc. But all of that fades a bit when you focus on the food. I ordered the Penang curry with tofu. This curry was delicious and packed quite the zing. I'm so used to Thai curries being whimpy and toned down for the round-eye tastebuds, but this one came out swinging. I didn't even request anything above their normal spice level. Very nice. Some of my friends ordered sushi and they seemed to enjoy it quite a bit. The owner also brought out a few complimentary desserts which were also delicious, and made in house: thai coffee creme brulee, green tea ice cream, and a chocolate mousse. Give this spot a chance! I hope they can drum up more business as it seemed pretty empty for a Saturday night and I'd hate to see them fail.

After a long day at Ikea apartment shopping, my mom and I found Zen on Ten using my GPS feature. We though it looked promising, decor wise. It's really a beautiful restaurant with great beams, decorations, and a beautiful bar. Now I have tried japanese-thai restaurants before and have always been disappointed because in the end these restaurants seem to have a personality disorder. I mean, make up your mind... japanese or thai? Just cause they're both asian doesn't mean they're the same food! Reminds me too much of cheesecake factory.... some serious multiple personality disorder. Rant Over... onto the food. As we walked in I saw a Thai special with shrimp an duck. Looked interesting and ambitious. We ordered 2 pieces of nigiri each as an appetizers and ordered martinis. I ordered the key lime martini and my mom go the chocolate martini. My key lime martini was very sweet... almost tasted like there was no alcohol in it. Maybe better suited for dessert. My mom liked the chocolate martini, but how hard is it to put chocolate and vodka together? The nigiri was decent. Not stellar. Overpriced for the quality. So my mom and I shared this duck and shrimp with veggies dish. I asked them to make my spicier in the back and serve hers mild. Mine definitely had a kick but not too much of one. The rice was not quite right... a little starchy. But the veggies in the dish made the whole trip worth it. They were crisp and fresh. I love it when veggies maintain their own identity when in a lot of sauce. The shrimp and duck were both overcooked though. sadly so. Not a bad place to stop in when you're in the neighborhood. I just wish this place could choose an ethnicity.

Yucky sushi. Fish did not taste fresh and had a faint weird chemical smell. My office gets takeout here once in a while and some people like the Thai food ok, I've never had it hence the two stars for potential. The first time I had the sushi it was, "meh", average and, as many here say, super overpriced. Today was the third try and I'll never eat their sushi again, it was downright nasty. And why risk nasty sushi, is there anything more disappointing?

I came to Zen on Ten with a small group for lunch. Our experience enlightened us to one essential truth: We should have brutally beaten the guy in our party that suggested we go there. For starters... the Thai iced tea is served as some sort of frappuccino thing. Why? Not only is that not how anyone serves it, it was 20 degress outside! The calamari appetizer was ok, but tempura frying isn't rocket science. Then, the main course... that came out 45 minutes later, about 20 minutes after the rest of my party got their food. Teriyaki chicken. Essentially, a grilled chicken breast with some vegetables that were stir fried for maybe 2 minutes, then drizzled with some "teriyaki" sauce that tasted like it came from a microwave meal. I wondered why our server attended us with what seemed like a tinge of fear... I guess her conscience was gnawing at her for what she was about to do to our tastebuds.

I'm only reviewing the customer service aspect, since I did not get to sample any actual food. I came in on Wednesday, lunch hour. The place was practically empty, only 2-3 table had people. There were 2 hosts, both of whom seem extremely unhappy about being there. When I asked them what is good for take out, they just handed me a take out menu. When I asked for the special, they said that they don't do their specials as take out. They did not have an answer for why. Summary: Shitty customer service and weird restrictions were an immediate turn off.

We've ordered take out from here several times, each time hoping that the last was some sort of fluke. The food isn't inedible, but the options we have tried just haven't been very good, especially considering the price. We have tried a couple of the stir fry dishes, a couple of the noodle dishes and the spicy basil fried rice. The spicy basil fried rice is the one thing we have actively liked. Otherwise, everything has been just "ok." The noodles we have ordered have been really oily and the chicken they added was dry and bland. We'll probably keep trying different things from here just because it is so close to our apartment and we are far too lazy to drive anywhere most of the time, but I certainly would not go out of my way to come here.

having only eaten their Thai dishes, it's not the best Thai in town, but I gladly stop by when I'm in the area. The place has never been that busy, and the service has always been good. The inside strives to look trendy, but is too empty and quiet and comes off as somewhat quaint instead. For about $11 you can get a good size portion of one of their meals. It's not too spicy, though I've never tried asking for anything spicier either. The one time I had drinks there it wasn't particularly good. 3.5* rounded up to 4*.

Went here with a couple friends and was pleasantly surprised. Our server sang us "Danny Boy" in Portuguese-- don't really know why, but it made us smile! I was a bit hesitant about what to order because of the high prices, but my friend and I ended up sharing the Sushi Tray and it was a great deal! A good amount of food and splitting made it less of a blow on both of our wallets. I want to give 4 stars, but the prices made me drop to 3. Good food, good service, just too pricey for me!

My sister and I went here on Christmas Eve just looking for a bite to eat. I had the Pad See-U with chicken and wonton soup, my sister had the lettuce wraps. After looking at the menu prices I assumed the portions would be small, but boy was I wrong! I was disappointed with the quality of the food though. Don't get me wrong, everything was extremely fresh however it was BLAND! They really need to work on the flavor profile. The rice noodles were my favorite and the lettuce wraps were tasty. Our server was ok, very friendly however he did have a few blunders (ex: brought me the wrong app). Overall, I think I would try Zen again to check out the sushi, but on my first visit I just wasn't impressed.

Just moved into 10 Side and I am very pleased this place is in my building. The few times I have been in, the quality of the fish has always been good and fresh. The only thing I have had from the kitchen is wonton soup--very tasty--so I can't be a critic for the "bistro" side of the place. But I give a thumps up on all the rolls!

I've been looking for a cheap Thai place (not Tamarind & family) since moving to Atlanta 3 years ago. Just discovered that it was right around the corner. Zen has fantastic curries, Nam Sod, and my children love the chicken satay. The sushi is just ok, but the price is right. Service is great and they are very child-friendly. It works for an nice dinner or a cheap lunch. So excited to have finally found this place. Pretty sure I will become a regular in no time.

I'm not sure why all the so-so reviews here! I started coming here almost a year ago. The sushi has always been fresh & I am a sushi snob!! No ru-sans for this girl! The service is always great and the owner has been in the business for a long long time and is a riot! I love Zen on 10!

I really like Zen's sushi. I've eaten there a few times and the Yummy Rolls are always good. I have yet to be disappointed. They are a bit pricey, hence the three stars for that.

Wow! They have the most amazing drink menu. If anything, try Zen on Ten just to mix up your usual Happy Hour. The bar area is just gorgeous. I went here for my birthday with about 15 people unexpectedly and we were handled beautifully by the accomodating and flexible staff. I had a big blue alcoholic fishbowl called a Volcano Blast for my first bday drink followed by some other rummy and colorful concoctions. I enjoyed 2 sushi rolls that were a cut above typical sushi rolls and I also tried my friend's panang curry. Panang can be very bland, but this panang curry had fabulous deep flavor, pizazz, and a nice kick. Parking is a breeze at the Tivoli Tenside building, so no valet or street parking drama. We enjoyed a trio of acoustic musicians on Friday night. The ambiance is very urban and sexy yet cozy. I will be coming here a lot more. The owner is a delight. He greets you and makes sure that everyone is smiling! My friends really liked it as well. It was their first time here. I will be back for those amazing blue drinks and some sushi very soon.

The service has been sucking pretty bad lately. I really dislike ( I want to say HATE but that's such a strong word...) the bartender. She's the worst. She doesn't even smile.. the drink bowls suck.. she's so impersonal... and she rushes people.. I usually sit at the bar which is why this was important to me. But.... when I did sit down at an actual table the server with the curly hair.. he was really cool. The sushi is only good if the female sushi chef prepares it.... the male chef.. be prepared for your fish to separate from the rice or sushi. The edamame wonton soup lacks flavor. I don't really care for the thai food that much it's subpar to say the least and it's inconsistent. The sushi is fresh though. If you choose to eat here... have the sushi.. and drink either beer or wine... trust me you will thank me for it later... Oh...and the 'live entertainment' (read:Fake John Mayer) is often OFF KEY and he sucks too...

We ate here in July 2010 after years of enjoying The King and I by Ansley mall. From other reviews, I guess Tom is no longer in charge of Zen on Ten, or perhaps the recipes got lost on the trip over. Even if we weren't expecting the delicious spring rolls, pad thai, and coconut ice cream of King and I, we still would have been disappointed here. The prices are high, the portions are small, and while presented beautifully, just didn't taste impressive.

I ordered from Zifty and my order showed up incomplete, which I think is the restaurant's fault. The sushi didn't seem very fresh and the Pad See U seemed very oily and bland. I won't be ordering again.

Wow, what was I thinking when I decided to try this place. The service was slow considering the place wasn't busy. They even messed up on my food and not even apologized for there mistake. We order satay and was dried, too chewy for me and my sushi was mediocre-nothing to rave about. Since this was their first week opening I'm going to have to go back and give it a second tried just to really see if they deserve the one star, but for now their getting a star from me.

Tommy's Zen on 10 is 10 stars. It is our favorite place to dine in the ATL. Friendliest place around with great atmosphere. Saturday night is live jazz night. If you are in the mood for sushi, the Zen10 roll is a must try. The bar is great with best texas margarita. You must try the tiger shrimp appetizer and panang chicken entree.

Exterior makes it look like a counter service type of restaurant but actually is pretty elegant on the inside. Went in for lunch and saw that they had what looked like some good $8 deals for various Thai dishes. My fall back for Thai restaurants is usually the green curry and thought I'd give it a try. Upon ordering my server asked me which protein I would like to add and pointed to a bunch of add-ons for various prices. Part of what drew me here was the supposed value of the lunch specials so I asked what the $8 version of the dish was to which he replied that it did not exist and that if I wanted just a vegetable curry then it would be an extra $1. I ended up getting the Green Curry with Chicken and the ingredients seemed fresh but didn't have much complexity or kick (had 2 hot peppers by the menu listing). When all was said and done with tax/tip this dish cost me $12. Not exactly the good value I was looking for and furthermore when you're so close to a quality Thai restaurant like Spoon which charges the same prices or Tamarind Seed which is a small step up, it'll be difficult to get me back in the door. Maybe their sushi is good but not sure I'll be back to try it

Zen on Ten is the number 1 choice to eat when I have my weekly dinner with Joey H. Parking is super easy here. There is a parking deck attached and it seems like there is always parking free to customers. The sushi here is cheaper (much cheaper) than what I am use to. As such, the rolls taste like an $8-$10 sushi roll. On the bright side, it's actually a pretty good tasking $8 roll. I have never had an issue with the customer service here. Good Sushi + Cheap Rolls = Happy ME.

I wouldn't recommend the sushi here. The rolls fall apart when grabbing with chopsticks and dipping in soy sauce is almost impossible. Coming from NYC I am trying to be open to the fact that food will not be as good but this is definitely way below my standards.

This is a late review before I got on board the yelp app.. Came here with a friend and ordered a chicken teriyaki and rice dish. It was decent. It was a basic Asian food restaurant.. nothing special besides overpriced food. But get this, they charged me 3$ extra for chicken when it is specifically a chicken teriyaki dish..after I received and ate it they decided to tell me and claim the menu was wrong. That's just sad.

We've tried this place a few times when we visited Atlanta. Last time was with my Mom the year before, and they were pretty decent, with especially attentive service. This latest visit in December can only be described as 'bizarre'. We were thinking a pitcher of beer, only to be told, drip by drip, that the one we wanted - what's on the menu - wasn't available. We'd order one, the waiter would go to the bar, and then come back to tell us they're all out of that. One by one, we checked them off: Sam Adams, Blue Moon, two others that I do not now remember exactly. Finally, the revelation that, really, all they had was Bud Light and PBR. Since we wanted neither, we went to wine instead. Of the 2 dozen or more wines that were on the wine list, they had TWO! At that point, we didn't know whether we should laugh or leave. We stayed. Their menu is Asian fusion, with the 'fusing' being between Japanese and Thai, perhaps with a bit of Malay thrown in. After all that, my wife and son had the intestinal fortitude to order sushi! Thankfully, neither suffered any consequences. I went with curry, which tasted fine, but the portion of rice given with the curry was a tiny portion that wouldn't have satisfied a 5-year old child. They were OK bringing more when I asked, but it was just... bizarre. And after all that, there were no tokens to try and patch things up. I'm not one to beggar for freebies; I just thought a small dish of ice cream to cool me down might have been appropriate.

Well, not a good experience at this place whatsoever. We decided to hit this place since it was a friends bday. Got there, ordered drinks. Waitress comes back and says that they didn't have the beer they ordered and to get something else, no big deal. Then we ordered food. I got the Thai bbq chops, and wife got some sushi dishes, after ordering the waitress comes back again and says the same thing, we don't have it, can you order something else. I mean, if you don't offer that dish anymore then why is it on the menu? I ended ordering some undercooked duck, which was average tasting. Wifey enjoyed her sushi. Service was ok, but they need to teach their staff about specials and actual items that they do still carry. Needless to say, we are not ever going back there again.

The Thai food was very good. My friend got the Pad Se Ew and I got the Pad Se Moa (spelling?) Both were excellent. Even better were the dumplings and the zesty sauce it came with. Service was poor, slow and incomplete. The waiter couldn't answer simple questions about the food, didn't give us plates for the appetizers, didn't offer us refills on our adult beverages, and just was clueless.

I gave this place two stars only because the food was actually edible. I ordered the rainbow roll and miso soup to go. So simple, yet so disappointing. The salmon was omitted (which I didn't realize until I was home) and the tuna & white fish were less than fresh. The miso was also EXTREMELY salty. In addition to subpar food, the service was undesirable. When I approached the bar to pick up my order, the server slid two tied bags across the bar along with the check. No greeting. No order confirmation. I asked what was in the bag and he replied with "uuuuh let me check." Luckily (or unluckily) it was my order. Oh, and I should also mention that any sauce request (eel sauce, spicy mayo, etc.) is $1 up charge each. Needless to say I won't return.

If you have 30 minutes time until you get seated. Another 20 until anybody is coming over to ask you what you want to drink and eat - go for it. Even though we had a reservation for 8pm we got our drinks around 9pm and our food half an hour later. The food and drinks a great if you have the time for the most "zen" service i had in a looong time.

Zen on Ten is everything but. However! They did get one thing right....the location is off of 10th street. Upon arrival, the "open" sign was off which I oddly shouldve taken as a sign. The music was on level 1 which made it seem like you were hanging out in a college cafeteria. You could literally hear every conversation that was taking place. They were clearly understaffed or just werent good at their jobs. Our server was also the bartender and I think the manager? she was very kind but seem overwhelmed. I ordered what shoudve been a spicy curry dish. Definitely not spicy and the chicken is quite questionable. The food is very underwhelming. Even for their prices. They have "fish bowl" cocktails for 10 bucks. Be wary on the liquor content. If you feel like paying 10 bucks for a large....lets say... orange juice....then go ahead. This restaurant would make perfect for a Thai fast food restaurant.

I'm not the biggest fan of zen on ten. I've ordered here at least 5 times since it is such a convenient location, but I'm never really satisfied with what I order. I either order one of the stir fry dishes or the noodles and they've all been really bland. I've had the kung pao chicken, mongolian beef, pad thai, siam, and the massaman curry and only the massaman had the right flavor. The kung pao chicken is listed on the menu as hot! hot! hot! but had no heat whatsoever when I ordered it. I've always ordered carry out and never had any issues with customer service. But for the relatively expensive price, just save some money and get the mediocre food elsewhere.

Great service (I always wonder why it is always so empty, but I always see takeout and delivery folks in there - so that may be why). The food is excellent, I haven't ordered a bad dish so far. The portions are a bit small, but pack a big punch of flavor. My favorite dish is the Pad Kee Mao (drunken noodle) - yum, lots of veggies and just really flavorful. My BF ordered the Panang curry and some sushi - which he found pretty tasty. I've also had the Tom Kha soup. Definitely not the best I've ever had, but it can do in a pinch if you're craving it. :-)

Environment gets an A+ here, but the food is a bit sub-par. As other reviews have mentioned, the setting is quiet relaxing and almost like a meditative spot where you come for a dining experience, not just a meal. There is soothing music, bonsai trees and garden pictures adorn the walls, and the tables are a rich mahogany. The hostess and servers are pleasant and cater to your needs without being overly attentive, allowing you to relax and focus on the dishes in front of you. Their appetizers are tasty and just enough to satisfy you before the main course. The sushi is average and the tom kha was a bit underwhelming. Out of everything we tasted, I would suggest the curry. It had a great blend of spice to it with enough heat to back it up. I would probably come here for lunch if I was in the area and needed something light, but I wouldn't go out of my way to make the trip back.

Awesome atmosphere, HORRIBLE service. Wait staff is rude, sushi chef refused to make a california hand roll. How hard is to make a hand roll? They do not understand customer service, I will not be back.

BF wanted to take me here when one of his co-workers recommended this place to him. We went for lunch one weekend, and the service was top-notch. Our waitress consistently checked up on us. We had first asked for a window seat but she later apologized for it being so sunny, and for us having to move away from the sun to eat comfortably. The food however was bland. Bf ordered the pad see ew and I ordered the mongolian beef, and I have to say, never in my entire life, have I tasted mongolian beef like I did here. It's not something I'd want to come back for either. The food definitely caters to the demographics it's trying to appeal to. Maybe another go at some other items on the menu, but for now, I'll pass.

When my girlfriend and I sat down we felt really cold. We asked the waiter if the heat is working and he said it's at 80 degree. maybe he think I was a dumb ass and don't know when the heat in a building is working(I didn't tell him it's part of mybjob to make sure the HVAC system in a building is working) Beside it being really cold my girlfriend order a dirty martini. I never had a martini so I tried hers . I asked her if that's how a dirty martini normally taste. She said no.. No lie people it taste like sea water. Our food was great and our waiter was ok.. long story short I will not return to this place unless someone tell me that the heat is fix and they higher an experience bartender. Forgot to include that I didn't pay for that dirty salt water and i still left a great tip

I come here for take out occasionally on Sunday nights and every time I do I sort of regret it. It's a bit overpriced for their basic rolls (i.e. just a tuna roll). It's also $2 if you want to add something like avocado or cream cheese. That will make a tuna-avocado roll or a salmon-cream cheese roll $7. Maybe I'd be ok with that if the rolls weren't so skimpy. I do wonder why they don't have some sort of Sunday night special since they're always so dead. Honestly I'm not sure I would ever eat there thte times I've gone in for take-out because it's so sleepy/quiet. The soups are also only okay too. Those portions are also kind of skimpy. They use big soup containers and then fill half of them. I'd rather you trick me and use smaller soup containers. I will say the people are always friendly and my order is always correct. .

    | LOCATION: | zen on ten is located at the intersection of northside dr. and 10th st. it's the lower level of a tall building; an apartment/business building, I believe. it's close to ga tech if that gives you a frame of reference. | ATMOSPHERE: | the interior of the restaurant is quite modern. when you first walk in, you can clearly tell that the restaurant is fusion. it has an american touch to it. the colors and decor give off an earthy feel; which is probably why they name themselves ZEN (earthy) on ten (10th street). the colors that made up the restaurant were orange, brown, and yellow. | SERVICE: | service here was actually on point. the lunch crowd wasn't too big. maybe because the time we went was during all the free events and festivals (during the summer). the guy that showed us to our seats ended up being our server as well. he was very informative; especially when it came to the lunch specials and introduction of the menu. we had a dog in our group, so we decided to sit in their patio. it was nice of them to allow dogs. throughout our meal, he did check on us..but towards the end, it did fall downhill a little. even though we had to go find him to get our check, it was alright. his overall service outweighed the ending. afterall, he looked like he was the only server during that lunch shift. | FOOD: | the food here was not nasty or anything, but it was a bit below average. the flavoring of the dishes could use some work. we decided to all order 4 lunch dishes and try each other's. we had the cashew chicken, sushi lunch special (3 small rolls - 2 maki rolls and 1 california roll; only one roll had meat; the other 2 were mainly cucumber and avocado), and 2 other chicken dishes (can't remember what they were..guess that tells ya something). if I had knew the sushi lunch deal was such a ripoff, I wouldn't have ordered it. {see picture} . the price for the deal was about $10-11? only been here once and that's how it'll stay. we will not be returning.

This is one of the better spots to find good sushi. The sushi chef is always coming up with different rolls to feature. The atmosphere is really quiet and low key. A great place for a date.

This restaurant, run by the former owner of the King & I, bills itself as an Asian Bistro and Sushi Bar. The interior is a soothing mix of polished wood and soft lighting and it's just a tablecloth away from being upscale. The menu is divided into different sections and you can choose from Thai or Japanese cuisine. The Japanese side is mostly sushi and sashimi with a handful of appetizers, soups and salads thrown in. I've never tried the sushi here, but the sushi bar is always occupied and platters regularly pass by on the way to tables. I'm more familiar with the Thai side of the menu, which offers up all the Thai staples from salads, soups and appetizers, plus a long list of entrees which themselves are divided into stir fried dishes, curry dishes, noodles and fried rice. Entrees can be ordered as is, with veggies or tofu or you can add meat, ranging from chicken, beef or shrimp to mixed seafood. There are also Chef's Selections which are more complex, i.e. more expensive, and heavy on seafood. About half the entrees are spicy, as indicated by one or two peppers, but spice levels can be adjusted upward or downward depending on personal preferences. My favorite dishes include massaman curry with chicken, Hawaii fried rice with raisins and pineapple and Zen chicken. I haven't discovered any earth shattering dishes that blow me away, but there are lots of solid Thai dishes that will please you.

i definitely give this cozy spot 4 stars. Great ambience on a Friday night. Chill, relaxed, and subdued setting with pretty good food. The lighting is romantic, evoking somewhat of a zen feeling - hence the name. i was not there for romance, but the restaurant would be a good choice for a 2nd or 3rd date. i and my friend both ordered off of the Thai menu. The food is good, but not spectacular. Flavors were nice - it's clear the chef is aiming for middle of the road, rather than the full gamut of intense of flavors for which Thai food is well known. Service was impeccable. The waiter was attentive, kind, and friendly. Even other servers checked in on us to make sure we were ok. And the place is reasonably clean, satisfying even a germophobe like me. Overall it was a nice experience. i'll be back if i'm in the neighborhood.

Great sushi. Shitty staff. And even though they close at 10 dont bother going after 9 because they lock the doors so they can LEAVE at 10. What an incredibly lazy crew. This place would be amazing if the staff actually gave a sh*t about the business.

Great food, nice decoration . I had the basil roll and was delicious. The sushi is not good , so don't go there for raw fish. The Mongolian is different from other places but is also good. From outside doesn't look that good but is a nice place to eat.

I have been here twice and each I have received good customer service with an togo order and dine-in. The sushi is not that great and I do not think I will ever eat sushi there again. Plus most of the sushi selection has something fried. The food is not bad but I don't like the face that you are paying extra for vegetables and meat. I like the seat up and find it relaxing and inviting.

Horrible restaurant. We went yesterday night for Valentine's dinner and the food was very bad along with the service. The sushi is not fresh we had ordered three different orders of sashimi, and they all tasted bad like it came straight out of the freezer. Our waiter was incompetent and asked really dumb questions...never going back again.

I was craving sushi on a Friday night and I have been wanting to try this place out for a while now. So my partner and I decided to come here and order takeout. We sat at the bar and looked over the menu. There was a decent crowd in the restaurant. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and dimly lit, making for the perfect ambiance for a romantic date. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, which was really refreshing, being that we were only there for carryout. I ordered the Super Crunchee Roll and the Rainbow Roll. My partner ordered the Chicken Teriyaki. All the food looked incredible and tasted great. I have definitely found my new sushi spot that is close to home.

Zen on Ten opened in October 2009 at the corner of Northside and 10th St. The restaurant is located on the ground level of an apartment complex. Other businesses in the same building include Five Guys, Jersey Mike's, and a CrossFit gym. Zen on Ten shares the same owners as King and I, one of my favorite Thai eateries, near Ansley Mall. The restaurant serves Thai, Japanese, and Chinese cuisine, with an emphasis on Thai and sushi. The menu actually has some depth to it, which is a good thing since there aren't many good Asian restaurants near Tech or the Westside to begin with. Examples include Thai appetizers and dishes such as Som Tam (papaya salad), Thai Roasted Duck, and Ghat Yong (Thai marinated BBQ lamb chops). On the Japanese side, you can get Hamachi Kama (yellowtail cheek). Since the owners and most of the employees here are Thai, I decided to stick with their core cuisine and ordered Zen's Chicken Lettuce Wraps ($7) and Green Curry ($10) with Chicken (+$2). The chicken lettuce wraps are wrap-it-yourself. The chicken came chopped in a small clay bowl. The meat was cooked with a lot of ginger and garlic, so this dish had strong flavor. The romaine lettuce leaves were cut so that each wrap was bite-size. A sweet red sauce accompanied the chicken and lettuce. Overall, not a bad app. The green curry was OK. The curry sauce, chicken, bamboo shoots, Thai eggplant (small green eggplants, each about the size of a golf ball), and basil leaves were served in a deceivingly large bowl. I also tried my tablemate's beef green curry. We both agreed that the chicken and beef didn't taste too fresh. The meats were chewy. Perhaps they were frozen, cooked too long, or both. I ended up putting the rest of my white rice into my green curry bowl and eating it almost like a stew. The portion size was generous. I also sampled some of the Sweet & Sour Chicken, the meat mirroring the same qualities of the meats in the green curry, and "Thai Juice," which was a fruity (grapefruit?) $10 alcoholic drink. Neither was very memorable. Our server, Aom, was excellent. She was super friendly and checked on us regularly. The restaurant itself is beautiful with large Asian canvas paintings hanging on the walls, an elaborate bar with plasma TVs, and elegant furniture and light fixtures. On Friday and Saturday nights, there's live music. My friends and I went on a Friday night and the restaurant wasn't busy at all. Free parking is available inside the apartment complex's spacious parking deck. Entrances to the deck can be found on both Northside and 10th St.

If all meals from this place are like the one I just ate, I'd suggest finding an alternate restaurant. My fiancé and I had this meal delivered by Zifty (which is great, btw) but I felt like I ate something the driver cooked and brought over. I had the sesame chicken which consisted of 10 small bites of chicken with some veggies in a dirty dishwater-esque "sauce". Very watery with no flavor. The chicken tasted like the only seasoning on it was salt. My fiancé had a tofu stir fry that had all of six pieces of tofu in it. I didn't try it... I mean, it's tofu! I'm not eating that! But she seemed equally displeased with the quality and flavor. We each got rice; fried and brown, each mediocre. When we were cleaning up, I got excited about the prospect of having a fortune cookie since I expected it to be the best part of the meal and I needed something to take the taste out of my mouth. Alas! No cookie... Just a bag filled with disappointment and spilled soy sauce. :(

I wanted to love this place, but I just couldn't. I only came to this place to support one of my friends who did a weekly mic night and every time I came, it was essentially just his friends and family and no other dining patrons. That speaks for itself. The food is decent and comes in a good portion, the drinks taste yummy (I highly recommend the Thai Juice), but the service is beyond poor. It was always a good thing my friends and I always stuck around for a long time (for the entertainment), so then it gave the staff time to refill on our water or whatnot. I've tried the seafood roll, which I only got because it was the cheapest roll on the menu. It was okay, edible, and severely overpriced, along with the rest of the sushi for what they give you. If you come, I recommend that you order from the Thai side. The lad na is pretty good and they give you a lot! I also tried my friend's green curry (she's a curry aficionado) and we both loved it. Don't get the Thai tea -- the color of it's weird (don't know how you mess that up) and it just doesn't taste right. I'll only be back if my friends insist on going, and only if I can't persuade them to go elsewhere. :(

The Thai curries are excellent, very authentic, and more spicy than most Thai restaurants in Atlanta. The chef at Zen on Ten uses the former recipes from King and I Restaurant, which was reputedly one of the best Thai restaurants in the city before it changed ownership. The chirashi is very good too with fresh fish. It can improve by having more variety of fish. Service is always excellent.

I love this place. It's super quiet and a quaint little spot to wind down after a long day. The food is great, the drinks fantastic, and the ambiance is awesome. The service is either hot or cold. Sometimes it's great, sometimes it's not!

Definitely won't be visiting/ordering for delivery any time soon. Ordered the Chicken Pad See Ew and a Zen Salad for delivery- Pad See Ew was flavorless, and for being advertised as including broccoli, and i kid you not, my Pad See Ew only had one piece of broccoli in it. The Zen Salad was just your typical house salad, but the ginger dressing was sub-par- it had the consistency of water and was pretty tasteless. The fact that both dishes were overpriced added salt to the wound. Maybe they're better with dine-in customers, but unless they close down the other Thai food places in the area, i probably won't be coming back.

You'll find Zen right at the corner of Northside and 10th street. Inside it's quite lovely. Calling itself an Asian bistro is spot on. Full beautiful bar and casual dining seating for lunch and dinner. Lots of windows and light airy feel as an Asian bistro should (I have nothing to base this on but in a perfect world I would). While it LOOKS clean my table and menus were dirty and sticky and I was the first seating of the day. Dirty or not I love the big menu! What a selection of great sushi, salads, soups, entrees and appetizers. They also offer weekly dinner specials and fishbowl cocktails. I got a super crunchee roll. Fresh tasty and flavorful with the all important crunch. Spicy tuna roll is standardly delicious. My arms are still distracted by the sticky table as I chopstick through my roll. Thai Kai Salad is fun. Moist slim pieces of chicken (too large to eat without a knife unfortunately), peanuts and greens served with two side "dressings" including mango vinagrette and peanut sauce. Th menu said tossed but it came side car. I could eat this one everday but wouldn't go out of my way for it as Zen isn't in my hood. I would also return if Zen was in my hood or I lived in the apartment complex that houses this restaurant but alas I do not. Service adequate but strange. 6 out of 10 for Zen.
