Was feeling a little homesick and decided to search for the nearest Hawaiian restaurant just for kicks and what do ya know I found a place close by! Being that I'm from Hawaii I didn't expect the food to taste just like but home but hoped it would at least satisfy my cravings. I arrived there about 10:45 am because I read in the reviews about the bad parking issues and didn't want to be bothered with trying to find a place to park. So I got there early and decided to read up on some other reviews to pass the time. I became skeptical when I read about the issues with the owners that other yelpers had but decided to roll the dice and dine in. I'm so glad I did! I enjoyed the kalua pork plate with a side of kim chee... ummmm it was soo good! The kim chee was nice and tangy just the way I like it and the pork was cooked just right with just the right amount of cabbage. I decided to come back and try some other plates later on in the week!

Fun patio with live music in Friday and Saturday nights. The BBQ is delicious we got the #1 combo. It's family friendly and has beer specials. Very unique low key place.

Ever go to places then ask yourself... "Why the hell haven't I been here already?" It's something I too often do. Atlanta is an endless adventure especially when it comes to restaurants. So I can give this place a solid three stars for food and an additional for kick ass service! I ordered the Katsu chicken, BBQ beef and a side of macaroni salad. The katsu chicken was pretty simple but was extremely delicious. Perfectly breaded and well cooked. The BBQ beef was delicious and flavorful. I'm not a fan of the macaroni salad. Some people rave about it but I would rather have macaroni salad from Publix any day. My yummy meal was accompanied by a Kona beer! YES! YES! YES! Coconut beer from Hawaii. *drools* The owner of the restaurant was our cashier and was extremely friendly. He explained the menu to me and even let me try the different beers before deciding what to purchase. Now, I want to be considered a regular.

Well, this isn't a "Bob's Hawaiian" in Gardena,CA! I had a bad craving for a "Loco Moco" and found this place on yelp. It's kind of a fast food casual place, you place your order at a counter and the staff brings to your table. The menu is located on the wall over the counter, they have many, many items! I had a Loco Moco, it was ok. It came on a bed of cabbage (Korean style??) instead of on a bed of rice. There where 2 scoops of white rice on the plate also. Taste was ok, I would go back again. I also ordered "Spam Musubi" to go. One order includes two rolls. I ate them later in the day, they tasted quite good.

I love this little hole in the wall. The decor is a little kitschy, but that's part of its charm. Every time I step in, I feel like I'm on a little mini vacation somewhere tropical. Being half Filipino, the food is very reminiscent of the food my mother used to make for me growing up...macaroni salads, plantains, spam, and fried rice. Chicken katsu (with that delectable sauce) is my favorite. The owner is very nice, and the prices are very reasonable.

I've been here a few times and always forget to place a review. Anyways, this is like the only place where you'll find food that is close enough to the traditional Hawaiian fare. I tried a few plates, and didn't really have a complaint for any of them. Next time I'm here I'll want to give the locomoco plate a try. I've had the Katsu with the pineapple and that was pretty good. My last visit, we got the Waikikie combo. This entree included the short rib, beef, and chicken. Every entree comes with 2 scoops of rice and a scoop of macaroni salad. This is weird but i always end up ordering the spam Musubi even though its something i can make at home. It is just that good...even though outside of this restaurant I don't eat spam. It's like this place is lighter soul comforting food Hawaiian style. They also have shaved ice, but I have yet tried it because i never had room for dessert since they give huge portions. This is such a cute place to drop by and have some of the best comfort food when you're in town.

I love the Hawaiian BBQ beef! So yummy. Tastes great with a Hawaiian beer! Also make sure to go on a Friday or Saturday.. The live music is amazing!!!! I seriously want that guy to sing at my wedding.

While I have said:" I don't do fusion food" before...but I feel I must make an exception for Hawaiian food. Hawaiian food is a melting pot of Polynesian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese and more Asian foods. What's not to like? Having just had Korean BBQ the night before, I thought the Hawaiian version was not going to beat the real thing, but since the lunch special is only $6.99, we all ordered the BBQ meats special plate with a scoop rice and a scoop macaroni salad. The consensus was that the Hawaiian version is just as good as the Korean kind. The BBQ is sweet and the meat is super tender. No sooner than I finished that boring looking scoop of macaroni salad...I realized I developed an unhealthy need to eat more of that mayonnaise-y goodness. It's a really good thing we are not spending a whole week on the islands...now I really want to go to the islands and spend a week's worth of eating there... The rest of the menu is even more tempting...I have not even had the chance to eat any Spam this trip...Spam loco moco...musubi...mmmmmmmmmmmm...Yes, whenever we are back in Atlanta, we will be back.

In my opinion this kind of food is really healthy. We ordered combos 1 and 3. The best one was the chicken combo. The sausage is really good. Too many rice in the plate

Waikikie Hawaiian BBQ is a welcome change of pace for the metro Atlanta area. The menu is extensive and all quite reasonably priced. Live music on some of the weekend nights, and slack key guitar graces the air during the other hours. Contrary to popular belief, I have yet to be adventurous enough to try their spam dishes.

Great authentic Hawaiian style food. Takes me back to living in paradise. Live music on Friday night. Singer has a great voice. Really enjoyed his cover of The Police - Every Breath You Take.

Waikikie Hawaiian BBQ deserves a solid three stars for the sheer fact that they're willing to prominently feature Spam on the menu with no shame. You definitely shouldn't come here expecting some sort of life changing dining experience or the most authentic representation of Hawaiian barbecue. However, for being nearly 5,000 miles from the source, this place really isn't that bad for a quick and inexpensive foray into Hawaiian/Polynesian cuisine. Food: Hawaiian cuisine is comprised of a smattering of multiple different influences, including Chinese, Japanese, and Korean - all of which are reflected accordingly in the menu at Waikikie. All entrees are served with steamed rice and macaroni salad - a green salad can be substituted for no additional fee. I opted for the steamed pork dumplings and the Chicken Combo, the latter of which included barbecue chicken and chicken katsu. The dumplings were nicely prepared, flavorful, and generously portioned (10) for the price ($6.99). In contrast, the entree was just OK, but not particularly impressive - the chicken was slightly tough and the portion was more modest. Both the rice and macaroni salad were perfectly acceptable. Service: There is no waiter service. All orders are placed at the front counter and the plates are brought out to your table once they're ready. Patrons are asked to keep their receipts out on the table to help facilitate easier identification and delivery of the order. During my Sunday evening visit, there was no line and the time from order to delivery was less than 10 minutes. The owner also stopped by following the meal to take our plates and to ask how everything was. Atmosphere: The interior of this place is very small and rather chintzy looking, but I wasn't really expecting anything different considering its exterior. The ordering counter is located toward the back of the space and seating is available both inside and on the outdoor patio. The decor consists of various Hawaiian themed knickknacks and a television playing luau music. Cost: Inexpensive. Appetizers are $3-$5 and most entrees are $5-$8. Kids menu items are all $3.99. Side orders are generally $1-$5. A family meal for 4 persons, which included BBQ beef, short ribs, chicken, steamed rice and macaroni salad, is $27.99. Other: Waikikie is closed on Mondays. A limited selection of beer and wine is available. The restaurant is located at the corner of Briarcliff and Lavista Roads, just across the street from Briar Vista Shopping Plaza. Accessing the parking lot is no easy feat, particularly when there's traffic on Briarcliff - in additional to the front parking lot, there are also a few additional spaces in the back.. In addition to dine-in service, takeout and catering are also available.

Restaurant is small. They have a large menu featuring many island dishes. I ordered the Waikiki plate. Lots of meat, rice and macaroni salad. Could have used more rice but overall it was delicious.

A pretty cool place outside the city. The place is decorated like most off island Hawaiian BBQ restaurants. I ordered the chicken katsu plate and a mini bbq beef plate because they did not offer a popular combo-- bbq beef and katsu. The bbq beef mini was quite disappointing. I could not find any decent size piece of meat as if they only included the ends and fat trimmings. The chicken katsu was pretty good. Good flavor and not too dry. The mac salad was a bit much. Keep it simple. If you're not from Hawaii or eaten island plate lunches then the food here will be fine. #atlanta

VERY very good. Ordered the kalua pork, and it came with 2 scoops of perfectly cooked rice and a scoop of delicious macaroni salad. I was sad when I finished, because there was no more :( Yes I liked it that much. My mother got the spicy pork and it was just as good. Hubby had the spam moco, I tried his and it was good too, although I'm not a big spam fan. The only thing I didn't like was the green tea there is arizona bottled green tea. I hoped it was made in house iced green tea, but its not. My mom liked it so much she called them (we ordered takeout) and told them how great everything was! She never does this. Will go back soon.

We came for a happy hour after work. Yum, I had an awesome Goose Island Summertime brew, which was delicious (and apparently the last of it). We got the Waikikie platter, which was samosas, plantains, and fried shrimp with cheese and jalapenos. It was a ton of food for $7. The prices are right, the ambience is awesome (I'm in love with the "Hawaiian video," which can be yours for $20), and the food is okay. I'd like to come back and try some of the pork and ramen dishes, which looked yummy. Based on just the platter, I wouldn't rave about the food, but it really was a fun spot.

Sooooooo good. Service was fast and everything was super fresh. We went at around 12 noon on a Saturday. No crowd which was nice. But then at 1, a lot of people came in...not bad. Anyways, the owner was super nice and service was awesome. You will not be disappointed I promise.

I've been going here since my Emory days. The atmosphere is unique and pretty chill. My favorite dishes are the spam musubi, chicken katsu, and spicy pork. Lunch special prices are great! Other items on the menu are a bit pricey for the portions.

I really love this place. Been here several times and will go back several times. Tried several things, the chicken katsu is my favorite. Trying the coconut shrimp next time. The owner is so nice! Try the spam roll. It's like spam sushi- sounds gross but is heaven I promise!! We will be back next week for the 4 person $30 meal as my in laws are coming into town. It comes with 3 types of meat. Can't wait!!

I've had Hawaiian Drive Inn ever since I was 14. I've had L&L, you name Hawaiian food, I've had it before. This place is so cute, and their plate? um... so cute too... Their serving size is perfect, but Hawaiian food isn't about perfect serving size... It's all about let me feed you one day worth of food into one meal... Their service was really good, I missed the macaroni salad so much. *sigh* their chicken katsu wasn't that good, it was sliced so thinly I first thought they're french fries. I am sorry Waikikie, maybe you should spend a bit more money on the food, and less on the decor. but no worries, i'll come back for the spam masubi's.

Just because it's a Hawaiian cuisine sets it apart with a lot of other restaurants. I was introduced to this place in college by friends. Fellow Yelper, Kate T., being one of them. Read her review, it's very helpful. I usually order the Chicken Combo Entree. It comes grilled chicken, sliced katsu chicken, 2 scoops of rice, and 1 scoop of macaroni salad. It's soooo good. I don't care much for the sauce that comes with it for the chicken. I do like the dark brown, sweet teriyaki (so I think it is) on the table though. The spam masubi is good as well. Simple to make, but it's something you (for me) have the urge to order sometimes. It's just rice and a slice of spam wrapped in seaweed wrap; a spam sushi! This place is pretty small inside, but sure can fit alot. They do have an outdoor sitting area; usually for nicer, warm weather. Parking does kind of suck, but there are plenty of lots around from other plazas if you don't mind the walk when this place is packed. Try this place out :)

We ran across this restaurant after a friend suggested it and it is now a Sunday after church staple (only because we live too far to go more often). We love the Waikiki plate. Great flavor and cooked well. More than enough food and great service. It's quaint and cozy. Prices are reasonable.

Found this on yelp and yelpers did not disappoint! Authentic Hawaiian food! Taste awesome..decor is cool. Friendly staff and WIFI! Only disappointment is the portion size..tends to be small. Anyway, I guess LA and Hawaii will always have bigger portions when it comes to Hawaiian food. Good to go to kill the craving!

I'm giving this joint 5 stars, because this is the best Hawaiian restaurant in town... well, I think it's the only Hawaiian place in town... You have to try the spam masubi or the spam fried rice! If you can't tell, I'm just a fan of spam! The mac salad is also the best! Paul is the best and extremely friendly. If you want to try something new, feel free to ask for his insight! He's open to pointing you in the right direction. Definitely try to catch the live music nights. I can't remember the guitar players name, but he has a great voice that reminds me of the times when my uncles sang to me when I was younger. IF you're really nice, they'll even dedicate a song for you! -CDC

I've never had Hawaiian BBQ before. Food may be the closest way for me to feel like I'm in Hawaii (for now). I ordered the Waikikie combo for dinner and I'm not sure if it was because I was hungry, but everything was mouth-watering juicy. I'd say the short ribs are flavored very much like korean kalbi. I read other reviews about the macaroni salad so I was looking forward to it, but unfortunately I wasn't a fan. There was a lot of mayo in it and also a particular smell to it that I didn't like. I'm giving this place 3 stars for now because I feel like there were so many other things to try like the Loco Moco or the spam musubi. They even had ramen on the board! I'm also curious about shaved ice. I'll have to come back again.

I got the loco moco and the teriaki chicken to go. Coming from California, I am a little biased about what I a hawaiin bbq place should be like. For me. Big serving sizes with around a 8 dollar price tag. Here you get smaller portions (although just fine for one person) at a little cheaper. Most plates are around 6.50 to 7.50. There a couple combos that setup you up in the 10 dollar range. Food was good. Service was good. I only complaint is the teriayki chicken was cut up into tiny peices. Im use to getting two large peices of chicken with my meal. But I pay a little bit more. Its still a good place. Definately come through here. They have 6 dollar pitchers on friday nights. Its yingling beer, but still good. Seems like a good all around place. I will come back to try other things, but skip the chicken. I feel like they give you very little for what you pay.

I didn't really care for the food at this place.. guess I'm not a fan of Hawaiian cuisine? We started off with the samosas appetizer. These were actually pretty good and probably the highlight of my meal, even though they were not served the way I was used to. Normally when I order samosas, they come with 2 huge pieces of fried, doughy, potato-y goodness, but these came with 10 small pieces and were served with a curry dipping sauce. Good stuff, nice and crispy. For my entree I thought the BBQ tofu sounded interesting and instead of the rice and macaroni, I went with the green salad with sesame dressing. The salad came out and it was just iceberg with a few tomatoes and carrots.. kinda blah. The dressing on it was good though. The BBQ tofu was not what I expected at all. It was just pieces of tofu, some wide noodles, beansprouts, and a few other veggies covered in some sort of brown sauce. Their rendition of BBQ sauce wasn't reminiscent of any particular style that I was familiar with. I guess I was just expecting more flavor in the sauce. I also tried the Thai bubble tea. It wasn't bad, but I've had better at other places. It also took forever to come out, but I think they were cooking the tapioca pearls. The owner was a cool and funny guy and we enjoyed talking to him. I just wished I liked my food.. the meat dishes looked pretty good but I'm going to stick with my tofu & veggies and look elsewhere.

Waikiki Hawaiian BBQ is a typical Hawaiian brand restaurant. The decor attempts to appeal to its customers by making it look like you're really in Hawaii. The location of this place doesn't do it any justice, as the parking lot is so small, and yet the inside is so congested with customers that they can't even sit all of them. The food is prepared to every order, and I give them props for that. My colleague ordered the Chicken Katsu and I ordered the Waikiki Chicken BBQ. The chicken BBQ tasted plain, as there was barely any flavor whatsoever. The salad underneath is was just drizzled in oil, and the macaroni salad tasted utterly foul to my taste buds. I didn't even touch the salad after my first bite. The rice is what I like to think as something I could hold down all the food. Overall, this place has good service and decent food.

I have never been to Hawaii so I honestly feel like I can't speak for what it's worth... but here's a try. Some of the items I find a little overpriced (like some of the platters.) I've been here a few times and all times were above average. I thought the food was pretty flavorful and the restaurant itself is clean, and well maintained with cleanliness as well as a happy staff. Joe and Paul are very chipper, pleasant people who make the restaurant seem more delightful. I'm not a fan of the rice. It's kind of mushy and I'm Korean- we are used to overly sticky rice... I don't know if it's a Hawaiian thing or not but def not a fan of that. I've had the spare ribs, bbq chicken, and bbq chicken curry here (all on different occasions DUH.) I prefer the bbq chicken over spare ribs. Macaroni salad is topped off on every plate. I like it- very simple but still tasty. $6 min for credit card transactions. Never had the dessert but need to try soon!

Great little spot! Enjoyed the SPAM Musubi and spicy pork. The pork was served on a bed of cooked cabbage with a side of rice and macaroni salad. The Musubi was delicious and an eye opener of the glories of mystery meat. The pork and cabbage was awesome and the macaroni salad was just okay in my opinion. Nice small selection of beers with a few on draft. Parking in rear and counter service. Overall I'm glad to have stumbled on this gem and will be back when traveling through this part of Atlanta.

As someone who grew up on O'ahu- this is the very best of Hawaiian comfort food. I found this little piece of heaven tucked in hidden pocket off briar cliff back in 2006. The colorful outside will catch your attention immediately. Finally visited and LOVE IT! Everything is fantastic! The surf tv, subtle ukulele music, lively owner who is ALWAYS in the store, hard to find Kona brews, and shave ice! I usually order the mahi mahi which is excellently and delicately fried. I love it with the authentic macaroni salad and rice! They have perfectly accommodating teriyaki sauce located in the condiments. The service is quick, inexpensive, and fresh. The sweet tea is perfect and it has a semi open kitchen if you like watching. Occasionally they have live hula or someone playing ukelele. I happened to visit once with a traveling artist who was performing and singing which was incredibly enjoyable. They have celebrated their anniversary on numerous occasions with fantastic luaus including live hula! Their patio is a botanic dream and downs out a lot of the boring scenery overlooking briar cliff. It's definitely mom and pop owned which is even more reason to support. I can't find a single thing wrong with this place- even the fact they are closed on Mondays! Gotta love that Hawaiian spirit! I take every single person I treasure here to enjoy something different on their pallet. Most people have no idea what they are missing! Please stop by and give this place a chance, it won't disappoint. Parking has never been an issue. They have a small lot out front which can get busy, however there is additional parking in the back. And if they are that busy, you probably wont find a seat. I wouldnt mind parking across the street and walking, either! It's worth it!

This place makes me want to put on a grass skirt and do some dangerous tricks with a fiery baton. Actually, I have no idea how this may compare to authentic Hawaiian barbecue, but it's good. Really good. It also makes me want to roast a pig, though I probably won't be able to give it the Island flair these guys can. Vegetarians may want to look away. Because the meat is why you're here. I had the Waikikie combo (BBQ beef, BBQ shortribs and BBQ chicken). It was delicious. The barbecue chicken was also highly recommended, and I may have to try that next time, along with maybe some shave-ice. If I do, it will the first time I've ever had a snow-cone, ever. Holler if you're coming with.

I've been back several times, including a trip where I drug well over a dozen friends along, most of whom had never seen such a thing. I've tried a wide variety of their center menu dishes as well as the more novelty (yet authentic Hawaiian blue collar) spam musubi and the spam loko. My latest visit rewarded me with Kona beer on draft. Kona Pipeline Porter, in particular, is one of my favoritest beers with is coffee notes and dark sweetness. And they have it here on draft. The folks who work here are awesome. They're friendly and accomodating, even when you take over the center of the restaurant with a pack of weird loud folks. Apparently that's not terribly unusual for them, as they host weekly ukelele jam sessions. I need to come out for one of those. I'm not sure what could be more interesting than an evening full of ukeleles, kona pipeline porter, and spam. It may be a little strange, but if you don't walk away with a good story...

I have been remiss in not writing a review for this beloved quirky dining establishment. First, my family visited for the shave ice. SOOO delish. Then we ventured into the world of Hawaiian bbq. The meals come with a macaroni salad that is like crack. I've tried to re-create it, but no go. Pineapple Katsu Chicken is perfectly breaded. Spam fried rice is as adventuresome as it sounds. And the Kahlua pork? Awesomeness on a plate. Quit reading reviews and go NOW!

I give Waikikie a pretty solid 4 for the price v. quality of the food. I pass this place a lot and always wondered what it was like because it stood out so much. Tired and hungover one morning, a group of us finally decided to check it out. My boyfriend and I got the steamed shrimp dumplings and chicken bbq udon. For $7, the udon was pretty good, and the portion was large enough to take more than half home. The shrimp dumplings reminded me of a miniature version of the kind served with dim sum. Not too shabby. Overall, a pleasant experience. I would go back and probably try one of their bbq platters with the macaroni salad.

When I took my first pilgrimage to Hawaii, I became fond of a place named Helena's ( yelp.com/biz/helenas-haw… ) which to me, has absolutely the best beef I have ever had in my entire life. If I could leave everything behind and learn the art of making pipikaula, I would in a heart beat. When I heard there was a restaurant in Atlanta that had Hawaiian style beef, all I could think about was Helena's. I had to try this place out- quickly!!! I didn't realize how close it actually was to I-85 and buckhead, which is a huge plus. When we arrived, I was able to park right up front. It was nice to enter and feel the laid back vibe that is ever so present in Hawaii. There is a huge menu to choose from and your order pay and they bring the items to your table. They even sell Coke and Kona Brewing Co. beer! I made my order simple- I got the short rib and an orange shaved ice. My buddy ordered the short rib platter. The food came out on nice ceramic plates with cool designs. I took a bite into my short rib- it was juicy, but there were a lot of tendon I had to work with- it seemed like a lot of work for such little meat- like trying to eat a blue crab or a crawfish. There was flavor, but not of Helena's glory. The shaved ice was awesome, but it was pretty messy! I left with an orange tinted skin (finally, some color!). I could tell my friend had a hard time with his platter, I felt bad for him- although I would have dominated him. I like that I can get a piece of Hawaii without having to travel 4500 miles, but maybe I should try some other stuff next time- the menu is large enough you can eat there every day for 2-3 weeks and get something different!

I'm still on the fence about this place. The food was alright but apparently (according to my friends) I didn't order the right thing. *shrug* I ordered the BBQ pork ramen and my husband ordered the bbq pork curry. As per the norm his dish was tastier than mine so I spent my time eating that! It was overcast and upsetting outside but inside it was brightly painted, loud and pretty fun. The owner of the establishment came over and chatted at us for a minute, there was thai tea and friends... what more could you ask for? Oh, there was also spam sushi. I was very dubious but I tried it and ... it wasn't terrible! I'm going to go back again later and try the 'right dishes'... UNTIL THEN Waikikie gets 3 stars.

We love this place! The food is always good so when we really want to guarantee a good meal, this is our go to place. The Waikiki combo is great! The macaroni salad is really very tasty and goes well with the flavor of the meat. Plus, the two of us can eat for around $20. My kind of meal!

Been going here since I was in college. My friends actually have a picture with the owner on the wall, yeah...this is one of my favorite restaurants in Atlanta. I have never had any other Hawaiian BBQ so I just assume this place is the best! The place is covered in a lot of authentic Hawaiian touristy decor. Sometimes the owner can be a little standoffish but I always get great service here. I always order the Hawaiian BBQ and an order of spam musubi. If you have never had spam musubi, you must look it up and then try it at Waikikie! It may seem weird but trust me...so yummy!! I really like the Hawaiian BBQ, comes with two scoops of rice and a scoop of macaroni salad or you can get it with a green salad. Their Thai tea is very good too. Good place to eat and they have live music on the weekend. Everyone should try it once!

My mouth is watering right now just thinking of their food. I love their fried rice (trust me, spam and pineapple make for a delicious meal), and their BBQ chicken is tender, well seasoned, and delicious. We went for their anniversary luau and it was such a nice atmosphere-- summer night out on the patio with a live band, hula girls, and delicious food! Their macaroni salad is also really good, and I don't even like macaroni salad. Would definitely recommend Waikikie.

Being from Hawaii, I was craving local Hawaii food and this is as close as it gets in Atlanta! It's a quaint restaurant with a very Hawaii theme with many local favorites. It's probably one of the only places that have Spam Musubi, Loco Moco and Kalua Pig. Just like a plate lunch in Hawaii, it comes with two scoops of rice and macaroni salad. It's a 25-minute drive from where I live, so I've only eaten there once. I had the spam musubi and Fried Fish plate, which were both pretty tasty. It's definitely worth the drive for a little taste of home. Service is great, the owner was very friendly and it seems like a lot of local Hawaii people visit pretty frequently as well!

Spam musabi is just that. Spam. Cat food smelling spam. We had a #1 and #20 as well. Our child had the chicken tender plate. Outside of the macaroni salad and her meal, the rest was a bit subpar from what we expected out of Hawaiian Style bbq. We are headed to McDonalds. The last time we did that, we ate at the Melting Pot. Some places are just more satisfying than others. I'm going shopping for a bbq cooker.

Who would've known Atlanta had a good Hawaiian BBQ place. Now, I'm not from Hawaii, I've never lived in Hawaii, however I have been there and eaten a similar BBQ and let me tell you it was a real pleasant surprise when I tried Waikikie. Decor wise they have pretty standard Hawaiian stuff on the walls, it's oddly relaxing inside, quiet and almost calming. You'll order at the counter and have your food brought to you. Every time I eat here I order the same thing, not intentionally. Combo #1, it's full of all the things I like, different grilled meats, two scoops of rice and macaroni salad, all for under $10. I love the Hawaiian style of macaroni salad! Very similar to the plate lunch I dined on so many times in Hawaii. The menu is pretty big, so if you've never eaten this type of food I suggest checking it out before you go. They have a patio in front that looks appealing on a nice day. Each time I eat here I leave full , happy and missing my time in Hawaii. Will I eat here again, hells yes. I gotta remember to add the Spam Musubi, Loco Moco and Kalua Pig to my dining repertoire.

What a unique little place! This place is great. Prompt, friendly service and a clean, cute interior. The decor is Hawaiian influenced without seeming even a little bit tacky. The menu is big enough to be overwhelming to a newbie. I deferred to my husband because he'd been here before. I had just gotten off a plane and was pretty much brain dead. To start, we shared the Spam Musubi. This was my first experience with the stuff. I like spam, although I eat it rarely because it's not the healthiest of items. I enjoyed the roll, although the seaweed wrapper was a bit tough to chew through in spots. I can't see any way around that, however, since it has to be strong enough to contain a good quantity of rice and a solid chunk of spam. For my entree, I ordered the Chicken Katsu, which is Japanese-style breaded chicken served with rice and macaroni salad. It arrived pre-sliced and perfectly cooked. The chicken was tasty and moist and they did a much better job with the breading than I've ever been able to do! I really love that they serve Kona beers here, which are brewed on the Hawaiian islands. Alex H. and I both had Wailua Wheat, which is made with passion fruit. It was yummy, and a perfect compliment to the food.

Let's say I has just spent 9 days hiking the Appalachian Trail, subsisting on nothing more than trail mix (the kind with no M&Ms), water, and the occasoinal scavenged root. If, upon descending from the trail into Atlanta I stopped at Waikikie for lunch, I would be greatly satisfied. However, this was not the scenario. I stopped in for lunch while waiting for my car to be serviced across the street. I chose a small combo plate of Chicken something--the crispy one--that came with rice and macaroni salad. Then I splurged for the nuclear orange frozen drink churning in the corner. Everything was pretty unremarkable. Edible, for sure, and not gross. Just meh. The chicken was fine. The rice was completely plain and lacked any sort of flavor, as did the macaroni and cheese. The orange drink--I think it was supposed to be mango?--was about on par with a slushie, but less satisfying. It's a shame that the food is so mediocre, because from the outside this looks like a really cool place with interesting food. And perhaps it is, if you're fresh off a backwoods camping experience.

Stopped by here on a bleak night and tried one of the super combos. The Korean style short ribs, BBQ beef (also tasted sweet and Asian flavored), and BBQ chicken (again, tasted sweet and Asian flavored) came with some pretty pedestrian rice and macaroni salad. I saw ramen, dumplings, and spam musubi on the menu, which was very interesting. By extension, does the pork taste more like char siu here? I am a little curious. The chicken stood out as having some tasty charred edges while remaining tender, and the short ribs were tender and relatively fatty like you would expect from this preparation. Overall I was fed and satisfied, but not really impressed by the food. It all had a generic sweetness which just reminds me too much of food court stuff at a mall. And it was not cheap for a place that might as well be a fast food joint on days when there was no lively performance (I never saw it) and crowd. Even on a bleak night with few customers, I still felt the friendliness of the people here, and I appreciate that. Unfortunately without that this would probably be a 2 star place for me.

As soon as I walked in to Waikikie, I feel like I was transported to a local shop in Hawaii- with tacky decorations and all. The owner was really nice and laid-back. I ordered the chicken & seafood combo, and the hubs got the Waikikie combo. We also got the Spam Musubi (spam sushi) When I bit into the spam sushi, I felt like Antono Ego (the mean food critic) in the Disney movie Ratatouille when he took a bite of Remy's (the rat chef) ratatouille. The spam sushi was like a slice of childhood. Warm rice wrapped around a piece of pan-fried spam with a bit of BBQ sauce, all covered in seaweed. Now this is not fancy food by any stretch of the imagination... but it is ultimate comfort food (for many Asians & Hawaiians). The fried seafood (shrimp & fish) was really tasty- simply breaded & fried. It wasn't fishy, and was salted just right. The chicken BBQ was the only meh thing- I felt like it wasn't quite flavorful (read: salty) enough. But I like that they use thigh meat- noms. The hubs also ordered a Hawaiian beer- a coffee porter (forgot the name... sorry). It was very coffee-flavored. He said it reminded him of a coffee soda. It was tasty, and not expensive! Oh, and the place had Christmas movies playing last week when we were there... BONUS!! (I'm a sucka for Christmas stuff). This place might not be fancy, but it's comfort food in good quantities. I'll come back when I'm in the area and need a quick bite.

Wow I was really let down by this place & really wanted to love it. The Hawaiian concept really had me excited. The music and decor were great but the food was very lacking in taste. There's a cute little patio in the front come & sip the Hawaiian beer on the patio but avoid the food.

Waikikie really gets the basics of good plate lunch right: tender meat, perfect rice, and really good macaroni salad. I came recently with two friends and ordered the pork katsu. To my surprise, it came with not one, but two good sized pork chops, both covered in a breading so crispy and well attached to the meat I could hardly believe it. Rounded out by perfect execution of what are deceptively simple side dishes, I remain impressed. Both friends ordered the mixed BBQ plate and devoured it, eating so intently that conversation stopped. The owner and staff were friendly, too.

Fun times. Unique food. Not for the foodie. The inside of this place is decorated in Hawaiian props with Hawaiian videos playing. The tables have decent space between them and there's a patio. There's an air of cheap affordable fun in the decorations. The service is basic counter service but they remember you and your order. The food is the same. There's a big menu on the wall with a variety of cheap food. There's everything from chicken wings to spicy pork. Most of it has at least a twist of Hawaiian influence. It is tasty and unique fast food option but not fancy or refined. I mostly stick with fish and wings. I agree with Tamara, the veggies are limited, the meat is cheap and the owner can fall flat on service at times. It is a fun experience if you're on this corner but not worth going out of your way on a regular basis.

I was introduced to this place by a good friend of mine. The second you walk in, you'll notice the vibe of the place matches the theme very well. Lot's of decorations and the televisions are broadcasting performances of fire dancers and what not. (Actually if you come here enough, you'll begin to memorize the entire video). I usually always pick the Waikikie Combo; surprisingly, my favorite part of the dish is the side of macaroni salad. But, everything else on the plate compliments each other very well. If you're looking to spend a little less, anything from the mini plate section will do, it's essentially the Waikikie Combo with half the meat/sides (try BBQ chicken or BBQ beef). A thing that encourages me to come back is how friendly the owner is. It's not uncommon for him to sit down next to my friends and I, asking us how we're doing and telling us interesting life stories. Great guy, little crazy sometimes. If you're looking for a reasonably priced meal that will leave you smiling when you're walking out the door, I highly recommend checking this place out.

This my go-to when I'm missing home really badly. Apart from being in Hawai'i, this restaurant is satisfying. My favorite is the kalua pig and spam musubis. If you like crab rangoon, it's pretty bomb here too. I'm not a fan of the loco moco here, and I've given it a few tries. However, the flavor and juiciness of the kalua pig makes everything okay. The environment is casual and the staff is friendly. I also love that they have shave ice and a good selection of ice cream. I tried the coconut cake and it was decent too. This is an excellent choice if you're craving local Hawaiian food. I've never been disapointed, and I've been going since they opened about 7 years ago. =)

Why haven't I been here already? The dressing on their salad was really, really good. The BBQ chicken taste like the kind you get on a stick at a festival (I mean this in a good way!!). The macaroni salad was pretty tasty. I think I will get the chicken and salad when I go back. Unsure about the service because I got mine to go. Aloha.

Taste ALMOST like home but no Aloha spirit here... So why the 4 stars? Well, I am a fan of the food. IT is the closest thing to being back home (yes, I'm from Hawaii). It's not true Hawaiian BBQ, but you have to just understand that sometimes, you just can't truly mimic the original. I particularly like the Spam musubi, which honestly isn't hard to make. But going here just reminded me how much I missed it. The chicken katsu is pretty good too, but the sauce here is definitely NOT the sauce you can get at like an L&L or something. The shave ice is good, though honestly not sure why they add milk. But it's still tasty. And the BBQ chicken isn't like huli huli chicken (I wish it was) but the beef is nice and tasty. I read in another review that the owner was a bit of a "sourpuss". And I completely agree. Whether he is from Hawaii, has visited, or has relatives there...you would never think of him having any personal connection to the Aloha spirit because....well, he just comes across as mean. I'd rather deal with the gentleman who brings the food to the table (if you dine in you order at the register and seat yourself). Now that guy is nice. For what it's worth too, for 2 people, we have always paid about $25, which isn't bad, but honestly, it's cheaper in Hawaii and the people are definitely nicer. But alas, since this is the closest thing to Hawaiian BBQ, I will always be back. Perhaps more as a take-out customer though.

I like this place. Maybe it's the islander in me even though the island that's made the biggest impact on me isn't Hawaii, but Manhattan. Still, I look like an islander (with my gut, I look more Samoan than anything else) so maybe that's why the owner always seems to perk up when I come in here. Waikikie BBQ, based on what friends actually familiar with Hawaii tell me, is pretty similar to most lunch plate places with its menu choices: kahlua pork, sushi masubi, rice, mac salad. The only info I've got to go one is what friends and Anthony Bourdain have to tell me about lunch plate places because, really, the closest I've come to Hawaii is getting blotto at Trader Vics and that one time I stayed at Disney's Polynesian Resort. However, the islander food overlaps quite a bit with my mom's Filipino cooking. Makes sense since Hawaii is filled with Filipinos. Waikikie's beef short ribs are exactly like my mom's, only served up with less guilt. The spam? Also like my mom's. (Then again, hard to mess up spam.) I tend to order the Kahlua Pork, an offering of marinated, shredded pork served up with cabbage over a mound of rice. Also, don't neglect the shave ice. Yes, it's true shave ice and not a sno-cone being called shave ice. The difference between the two is like the difference between ice milk and gourmet ice cream. Speaking of ice cream, make sure to order a scoop of ice cream to put into your shave ice . This adds a creamy note that is hard to put down. So random to find a Hawaiian lunch plate place off of Briarcliff Road of all places. I enjoy random and I enjoy Waikikie BBQ. Three and a half, rounded up to four stars! Mahalo, bra.

It's not true table service, but it's a really cool spot to hang out at and get a meal that you won't really get anywhere else in the city. the Plantains are killer. Just understand that they really try to keep it authentic hawaiiian, and we tend to forget, or not realize, that being an island so far away from the mainland has its advantages and disadvantages....for instance....a mahi sandwich comes with American cheese.....Not my first choice to drape artificial cheese on mahi, but it's not like Hawaii is Wisconsin, don't you know.....It's great for authentic Hawaiian BBQ, and it will even please people who are from or have lived in Hawaii. Just don't count on the mainland food being as good as the Island food.

Came in on around 11:30am- Tuesday with a friend. It wasn't a fancy place. They have outside seating. I think it would be difficult to come here with big groups, especially for parking. i made sure to come around when they opened so there was no problem with parking. Ordered: Pineapple Katsu chicken Lunch Special: Kahlua Pork + BBQ Chicken Spam musubi (2) My order got mixed up so i got the katsu chicken instead of BBQ. When I told the guy, he fixed it and gave me the BBQ chicken on another plate. The food was alright. The macaroni salad didn't seem different from other macaroni salads (although better than store bought). I've had homemade spam musubi by Hawaiian relatives and friend, and i prefer homemade (but who doesn't?). I prefer the korean or japanese style katsu (i.e. Raku or Haru Ichiban located in Duluth or homemade).

Very friendly staff and excellent food. You order, pay and get your own drink and they bring you your food when it's ready. Good portions, nice breezy atmosphere. Sit inside or out. (try the curry katsu chicken)

I just walked in one fine afternoon and what a pleasant surprise. Ordered the lunch special - spicy pork, katsu chicken (breaded), rice, salad and macaroni. Needless to say I am in a waikikie mood now.

It was nice to get a taste of the west coast (or far west, to be more accurate) after moving from California, where there was great Hawaiian BBQ. The interior is decorated appropriately to the theme and the patio is a nice place to dine when the weather is nice. I tried the chicken misubi and the spam fried rice. The chicken misubi was good, although it had a little too much rice. I still prefer spam misubi. The spam fried rice was good too (and I NEVER order fried rice), but I would probably get something else next time. Service was really nice, but a bit slow. Waikikie is a great choice to change things up a bit, and certainly is a crowd pleaser.

I love this place. Has a cool vibe, live music on weekends, quick & nice service, and large dishes. I always get the Waikiki combo - it's delicious with two types of meat, lean pork and katsu that is fried just right. The frozen sangria is to die for - too bad they don't have free refills.

Soo good! I can't believe it took me this long to discover it. First off, it's a very casual, down to earth restaurant. People seem to go in and out pretty quickly. I was a little confused when i first walked in because i didn't know whether it was self seating or waitered. I quickly realized that it's one of those restaurants where you order/pay first, then seat yourself. FOOD: SPAM MASUBI, seems to be a hit or miss. It's one of the most popular items on the menu but when i had it, it just tasted like something i can make at home. Fried spam, rice, sweet sauce & wrapped in seaweed. Not bad, but didn't blow my mind either. LOCO MOCO, was what i got. I absolutely loved it. Initially, i was iffy about the platter combination of burger meat, eggs, rice and gravy. But it turned out super delicious. If I had to categorize this type of food, I would call it comfort food. SUPER COMBO was not my fave. It had the combination of BBQ chicken, BBQ pork, rice, eggs & gravy. The meat were very tender, but the favors were a little boring to me. It did not take BBQ to me. It was more like teriyaki instead. MACARONI SALAD...mind blowing. Best I've ever had! PUMPKIN CHEESECAKE, so good! ICE CREAMS were all very good as well. Pistachio is very very nutty. Do not get it unless you absolutely love pistachio. Definitely try the green tea flavor though. I was very happy overall. The portions are fairly large. Therefore don't order too much your first time. I believe they also have a minimum for credit card users. Make sure you bring cash if you are paying for yourself. Enjoy! :)

Short Rib, Chicken, BBQ Beef combo for me is the perfect meal. One of these days I will eventually try the Pork, but I can't seem to stop ordering the combo whenever I go. Live music on the weekends is nice but I come for the food, not the atmosphere. Prices are pretty cheap. The only downer? No full bar, just beer and wine.

  • Rick C.

Inexpensive but you get what you pay for. $22 will get dinner for two. Samosas tasty but seem like frozen and bought at Costco. BBQ chicken reminded me of the mall thigh meat chicken places that give samples on toothpicks. The BBQ short ribs are thin sliced; okay but nothing special. Macaroni salad that others rave about in reviews is pretty much typical Macaroni salad. Don't get me wrong; this place is okay for the cheap price. It beats fast food. But clearly there are some fake reviews on Yelp because this is low-level fare.

This might be the best place outside of Hawaii. I been to several places in SF & Chicago and this place has a great overall selection of what you will really find in Hawaii local diner. We had the number 1, which had shortribs, bbq chicken and the chicken katsu curry. I also ask for a side of pineapple dipping sauce for my katsu chicken. The macroni salad was like heaven. Usually I never like eating it because there is no favor but this was amazing. I read the negative review below and thought, wow you really think you are going to get Filet migon for $7. Hawaiian people love Spam and this place is what you will find the local people making at home.Simple food and they don't like veggies. If she really wanted to get grade A meat she should have eaten at Roy's.

I've been Waikikie Hawaiian BBQ twice and I loved it. The main reasons why I like it is because it's price point. It's very affordable to eat here and it's good food. I got the spicy pork and spam ramen. The spicy pork is very Korean style. It's spicy but flavorful, so if there is any Emory kids craving Korean food, come get the Spicy pork here it will remind you of it. The Spicy pork was about $8. Then I got spam ramen...how can you go wrong with ramen noodles. Come here if you want cheap eats!

After moving from the West Coast, I have the sporadic cravings for L & L BBQ. Since there are not many hawaiian places in FL (besides the Polynesian Resort at Disney), I believe the nearest place would be in Atlanta, GA. We came here following an intramural flag football game my boyfriend played in. Of course we decided to celebrate our W lunch here! The spam masubi was pretty yummy and on point, with the light seasoning of soy sauce in the sticky rice and pan-seared spam. I ordered the Chicken Katsu + Bbq Pork Combo, which came with rice, a mini salad, and macaroni salad. The katsu was perfectly breaded and crispy. The BBQ Pork reminded me of the yummy lechon eaten at a Filipino party. The macaroni salad was awesome! Overall, the food was delicious and satisfied my Hawaiian food cravings. You are given a large portion for a reasonable price. Mahalo!

I WOULD NOT go back again. The food was cold when I mentioned very politely to the owner he got an attitude instead of apologizing and trying to smooth over what would have normally not been a big deal his demeanor turned out to be colder than the food which I did not think was possible. Skip it, save your money.

I must confess - initially, I was skeptical that any Hawaiian plate lunch shack owned and operated by a haole could be good. This place is a genuine piece of paradise! It all starts with the tacky Hawaiian decor that makes you feel like you are on vacation. (On Sundays (I think), the ukulele players add to the island feel.) A must starter is the spam musubi for me. It is a fried slice of spam on top of a ball rice wrapped in a nori strip. (In Hawaii, you can get one of these at 7-11s for a $1.) I love the mix plates, curry plate, and all the fish plates. Scoop of rice and macaroni salad complement all plate meals. Absolutely delicious! Take vacation from the norm in Atlanta and go to Waikikie! Hawaiian comfort food is served here!

I had driven past this place many times and finally decided to try it. I wanted to sample a wide range of items so I got a combo in addition to a teriyaki wings order. Some people have commented on how small the portion sizes are and I have to agree. In my combo I had like 2 short ribs and 2 thin pieces of Chicken which was a bit weak. That being said the macaroni salad was good and the wings were my favorite thing that I had here. For being the only Hawaiian BBQ option in Atlanta its not that bad and Ill be back.

My friends and I have been to this place a lot of times and I love it! I would go here if I miss Hawaiian food. My husband and had been to Hawaii 2 years ago and that was the first time we tried spam musubi (spam sushi). I love sushi and spam so it's love at first try ;p And when I heard from my friend, Michael B. about this place, I was so thrilled! Tonight, we went there again and I tried Loco Moco. It's cheap ($6.29) but they serve big. Loco Moco has 2 big burger patties with gravy and 2 sunny side up eggs on top, 2 cups of rice and a macaroni salad side. It's good comfort food for me. They also had live music earlier which was cool. The interior is simple and not fancy but it has a warm feel because of the friendly servers and owners. Would go back definitely. Shaka!

This is one if my favorite restaurants in town. The owner and his staff are really nice. You can tell they really love what they do. The food is delicious. I always get Waikiki chicken no.7 I think on menu. The perfect amount of food. Owner is always willing to explain menu and help you pick out something good. My hubby loves their spicy chicken. The sauce is teriyaki based and I wish I could just take a straw and drink it. Parking used to be horrible, but now u can park in the lot next door as well. This is an awesome place and definitely unique in Atlanta.

I have read some of the lower end reviews and could not disagree more. I will say that it helps to have lived in Hawaii for nearly 9 years personally and my husband was born and raised there. When you walk in you are transported to your favorite Hawai'i drive in from menu selection to understanded decor to friendly service. There are a lot, I mean a lot, of menu selections which could be overwhelming if you have never experienced this type of cuisine. Perhaps have a look at the menu before you visit the first time to prepare yourself a bit. If this is your first exposure to Hawaiian food, You need to come in with an open mind and be open to new things. I also highly recommend that Kalua Pork ans its smokiness and texture are akin to a smoked pulled pork and a good way to begin your Hawaiin eating adventures. If you are going with a group, each order something dofferent so you can eat family style and share and try several different things to find what appeals to you most for your return visit. I want to address the macaroni salad as I read a very negative review about this...let us remember. this is Hawaiian style, not Southern style macaroni salad...yes, it has a different flavor but that is by design to be authentic. I could go on and on about great menu items, spam or teriyaki chicken musubi, spare ribs, and on and on. Only thing...wish they were closer to my home. :)

I've been wanting to try this place forever and finally had a chance. I had no idea what to expect, even after reading reviews, so I'll try and make this a "useful" review. When you walk in there is a "specials" board. Don't immediately make a choice here, the menu is HUGE. You'll walk up to the counter and place your order. I'd already gotten coconut shrimp in my mind so the large menu felt overwhelming and I just sort of ignored all but the appetizers until we sat down and I got to read over the whole printed menu. Your options are fried, more fried, BBQ, some grilled options (fish and chicken) and desserts and appetizers. We sat out on the patio, which I usually like to do for the openness and people watching, but this is a different sort of patio. Its one that encloses you and wraps you up in tropical goodness, even on a chilly October evening. I dig it. Inside there are plenty of tables and booths available. Our food came out very quickly. The plantains were fried to perfection, I highly recommend them as an appetizer or side. The coconut shrimp was the best I'd ever had. I've never had that much flavor in fried shrimp. Hubby D. got the pork chop special which delivered THREE huge fried pork chops. I loved the spice rub, or maybe it was the spices in the breading, on the chops. Delicious. The macaroni salad was just so so to me. Both meals came with two scoops of rice. While we were eating a couple of plates of spicy pork BBQ passed us and I'm so looking forward to going back and trying that out over the fried stuff. I mean, it was good fried meat, just a whole lot of fried. Total cost of meal for two, around $23 bucks. And to top it all off the people running the place have a great rapport with customers. They even offered to help us eat all those yummy pork chops.

I pass by this place a lot and decided to check in for dinner once. I don't really like the restaurant's decor. It is kind of small and dull for a hawaiian BBQ joint. The food is pretty good though. For $6-7 I had some chicken with a scoop of macaroni salad and two scoops of white rice. The chicken and rice was decent and flavorful but I loved the macaroni salad. Other then the food, the owner is very nice and seemed to have developed a cliquey relationship with some of his recurring customers. The menu is also very very diverse ranging from burgers to dumplings. I wish I could give this place a 3.5 but anyway, I think this place is worth a visit.

I've driven past this joint so many times, heard mixed reviews, but decided to check it out - mostly b/c they have a nice patio deck and the weather today was too fantastic to eat inside. They have quite a # of menu selections - you order up front and then the server will bring your food when it's ready. My friend & I both decided to get the $6.99 lunch special which includes a choice of 2 meats, plus rice, macaroni salad, green salad (not iceberg - yay!), & cooked cabbage. I got the BBQ chicken & fried fish. My friend got the BBQ chicken, too, and the kalua pork. She cleaned her plate, I didn't. I really wasn't thrilled about my food - honestly the macaroni salad & green salad were the only things I liked on my plate. The chicken was dark meat and had a "meat" taste to it - the teriyaki sauce thankfully helped, but just a little. The fish was Mahi Mahi which I normally love, but this one tasted like the frozen variety kind (as Kit F pointed out) - I've had better fish at Long John Silver. But you get what you pay for - everything is under $9 here and you get a lot of food. Perfect for nearby Emory college students. But not good enough for me - I don't think I'll be coming back ... although the spam sushi does intrigue me :)

Best Hawaiian BBQ restaurant i've ever eaten at. The Waikiki BBQ Combo is my usual and never fails me. Generous portions and quick service. If you eat here, you must have the spam musubi. Once you try it, you'll be hooked for life.

My girlfriend and I were planning eating here after painting class -- it was a rainy day and Waikikie is right next door. I parked in an UNMARKED space behind Dip N Dab, and a man in a Hawaiian shirt from Waikikie came out of nowhere and starting berating me and threatening to tow the car. It was way off the wall. If you can't park somewhere, mark the space. Our instructor in painting class said Waikikie ownership has started a parking war... Do not want to return to this area and definitely don't want to eat at such a place... absolutely rude.

Its a nice place. In a nice area. The food is okay. I was a little uneasy. My companion and I ordered 3 dishes: the kalua pork, spam fried rice, and katsu. Everything seemed like leftovers thrown together but my companion, who happened to be hawaiian, told me the food was served correctly. She was actually excited....NOT I. I could have made that meal myself. I mean who can't mix old rice with bits of spam or bread chicken? I say go for a new experience, and company if nothing else.

Compared to some of the Hawaiian bbq that I've had on the west coast, this place disappoints a bit. First off, I have to say that the portions are much smaller than I am accustomed to. Normally I would be stuffed after eating the main combo plate, but I was still left hungry after eating the three meat plate. A bit pricey for a 10 dollar plus meal if you get a drink. Second, the meat was definitely lacking in flavor. The BBQ beef and the chicken were decent, but didn't have enough salt or bbq sauce. The beef kalbi was perhaps the most dissapointing part-- way too fatty and no flavor at all. Now, I'm not sure how many of these places are available in the South-- I come from Los Angeles where this is available almost anywhere. However, a good effort at making this type of food available, and the service was friendly and everything was very clean.

On Wednesday night, I decided to try Waikikie Hawaiian BBQ because (a) I was intrigued by spam musubi, and (b) this restaurant is close to my room. In addition to the spam musubi, I got two other appetizers: fried pork dumplings and sweet plantains. All three dishes were fantastic! The spam musubi is now a favorite dish of mine, and the pork dumplings and plantains complemented the spam. For $11, I got enough food to eat in one sitting and fill me up. I'll go back to Waikikie to try some additional dishes.

Great, friendly service! Super cute, kitchy hawaiian decor and pretty damn good hawaiian bbq!!! I am a huge fan of this place and highly recommend! While there, I recommend trying the Kona passion fruit beer. It is truly unique and yummmmmy!

This is the simply the best! I came in here one night just curious because I see it everyday driving to work. Anyway, to get to the point... AWESOM FOOD!!! their Hawaiian flavor and everything was cooked to perfection. Also, LOVED the live music!! My boyfriend and I kept saying how good everything was, while we were stuffing our faces here... Seriously. I found this place by chance but so happy I did. Try the #1 combo it was delicious

This 5 star review is contingent on the basis that you will be eating Waikikie in Atlanta and not in Hawaii. If that is in fact the case this is closest you get to the food and ambience of Hawaii - in Atlanta period. I like the Katsu and Kaluha Pork a lot. Don't sleep on this gem. Thanks Waikikie you have added to the community!

The Curry Chicken Katsu is additive! Best maroni salad I ever had. I can eat these two things every day.

A few years ago when I heard that Waikikie BBQ was opening in Atlanta, I may have been the happiest person in town. Having spent many of my summers growing up in Hawaii this is a special type of food that could never be found on the east coast, let alone, the South. Thus, on opening day, I was one of the first to arrive at Waikikie BBQ. Hawaiian BBQ is a style of food heavily influenced by Polynesian and Japanese cooking. To me, this is a comfort food. It reminds me of days spent on the North Shore of Oahu eating outside with friends and family. The restaurant is located near the intersection of Lavista and Briarcliff Roads. When the place first opened there were not many patrons, but over the past two years the secret has gotten out and now it is consistently busy during lunch and dinner. Beware, the parking lot is small, and it can be hard to find a parking space when they are busy. However, there's a little bit of additional parking behind the building. The menu is expansive and diverse, offering traditional Hawaiian dishes such as Kalua Pork, BBQ Short Ribs, Chicken Katsu (with or without pineapple), and even a real Hawaiian specialty, Spam Moco. If someone in your party isn't quite adventurous enough to try some traditional Hawaiian dishes, fear not, they also offer burgers and fries. As far as side dishes go, the authentic Hawaiian macaroni salad is a must! It is unlike any macaroni salad you've ever had in Atlanta. I always have a hard time deciding what to order here because there are so many excellent choices, but Combo #3 tends to be my go-to meal. The meal comes with Chicken Katsu, BBQ Chicken, with rice and macaroni salad. This is a big meal, it will leave you very satisfied, and it has become my favorite option at Waikikie BBQ. On this occasion, my friend Scottie was with me and demanded that I give due credit to his favorite option here, Combo #1, the Waikikie Combo. This dish comes with BBQ Beef, BBQ Short Ribs, and BBQ Chicken. That's a huge meal folks! As Scottie stated, "there's a reason it's Combo #1, because this dish is #1!" Waikikie also offers Sno-Balls for desert, and if you've vacationed in Hawaii before, you know these are super popular and delicious. It's a great way to finish your meal if you're not already too stuffed. Waikikie BBQ offers Atlantans something different and unique for a casual dining option. They also offer catering, which can really surprise your guests when they are discovering a new type of food and restaurant they'll likely want to try. We've had them cater a reception before, and the food was just as good as it is in-store. They also have a beer and wine selection, which is heavily influence by Kona Brewing Company. Imagine that. Waikikie Hawaiian BBQ is one of my favorite restaurants in Atlanta, and I don't get here often enough. You're gonna love it!

Delicious. Outdoor seating is a plus (I'm, you know, building-sized), and I can't complain about the surfing DVDs they play here while you eat. It's fantastic! Sriracha (which should be available everywhere - it's the world's greatest hot sauce/chili paste) and Hawaiian-style BBQ sauce on every table. Pork, beef, chicken - it's all good. Jazz would've loved it (Father rest his soul). Get there.

umm...ok..hell no! 1+ star for creativeness in Atlanta. i loved this idea, loved, loved, loved it! i was so disappointed in, #1 the portions and #2 the damn food. i had to platter with all the meats: short ribs, chicken and something else (i forget) and we also had just the short ribs plate. The macaroni salad had no taste to it whatsoever. the short ribs didn't have much taste/flavor to them either and they had this gritty texture to them. the chicken was damn good with the flavor and the tenderness and juiciness. the interior of the place is lacking creativeness and style. the selection is every-damn-where. wont be going back, but I'm glad i experienced it. the place has so much potential.

I'll admit I'm new to Hawaiian BBQ. I had it for the first time at a now-closed restaurant in Las Vegas earlier this year. When I saw this restaurant on yelp.com , I practically went *SQUEE!!!* I had to try it. I had the Waikikie Combo. It's BBQ beef, BBQ short ribs, and BBQ chicken. The BBQ beef was very good: tender and with a rich not-too-sweet flavor. The BBQ short ribs were flavorful, but not quite as tender as they could have been. Still excellent, though. The BBQ chicken was good, considering it was breast meat, but my bias toward dark meat is legendary. All in all, I highly recommend it. Great prices, friendly service, and an interesting menu; what else does one need? How could I forget! LIME SHAVE ICE. YES. If I lived in Atlanta, I'd eat here all the time. At least once a week.

    (4)
  • Megan L.

this opinion is based solely on the shave ice ... ... which cannot really be called shave ice. what they serve here is something between real hawaiian shave ice and a snow cone; ideally, the ice would be so fine that the resulting concoction would be light and melt-in-your-mouth delicious - if you've tried waiola's shave ice in honolulu, you know what i mean. what we got here was actually larger flakes of ice that could have been shaved off an ice block with a chisel (this is also what my friend swears she saw them doing, and would explain why it took so long for them to make these). this would not have been so bad, had 1. there been enough flavoring added to actually cover all of the ice in the cup, and 2. the flavoring actually had any real flavor at all. we tried a few flavors, between the three of us, and they were all pretty mediocre. otherwise: the decor is really cute, and the list of entrees, while large, is kind of a representation of things you could buy (though at different places) in hawaii.

Its my favorite restaurant in atlanta! I love this place. All the combos are really good, and the place is really chill. Another amazing part is the price. I havent met anyone who did not love this place after trying it. I am going to miss this restaurant when i leave atlanta.

It starts with Man vs. Food. I became a fan of the show, not for the eating challenges, but for the vast variety of eats one can only hope to obtain. I watched the show one night when he traveled all the way to Honolulu, HI to feast upon the local island cuisine. Before the credits rolled, I was online, looking for Hawaiian restaurants in the Atlanta area. I came upon Waikikie Hawaiian BBQ and quickly put it on my short list for a future visit. I called my high school buddy , Nic and we set an after work appointment. She is from Hawaii and if anybody could school me on Island cuisine, it was her. I arrived first, pulling up to a small parking lot. The outdoor patio was empty but festooned with colorful bouquets of flowers, giving a pleasant atmosphere. Inside was empty, except for the staff, but it gave me a chance to take in the decor. Without overdoing it, the Hawaiian presence was apparent with tiki statues, hawaiian scenes on the walls, and island music. I had a chance to look over the menu and was extremely pleased with the variety. I started with an appetizer of fried plantain while I pored over the rest of the menu. Nic arrived and we chose to sit outside. The app arrived and we dug in. It was fresh from the oil and very good. Not too crispy or mushy. There is also a great chance for those who are beer connoisseurs to take part of the Hawaiian brew on tap and in bottles. We both had a glass of Wailua Wheat and Longboard Lager, both from the Kona brewing company. When the plantain were picked clean, we went back to place out order. Be aware, there is no waitstaff here, but if the tables are light, someone may run your order out to you. We got a chance to speak with Paul, the owner. He gave us his background of serving in the military at Pearl Harbor and wanting to share his love of the local cuisine in a restaurant. He has been open for four years so far; we missed the anniversary party by a month. Nic and I both ordered a Teriyaki Chicken Musubi, which was chicken and sticky rice wrapped in seaweed paper. She ordered Chicken Katsu for herself and I got the beef short ribs. I've seen many of the other reviews and I have to disagree with those who were disappointed. To enjoy Hawaiian cuisine, you must know Hawaiian culture. They consume the most Spam in the US because of the high cost of imported meat and it's in most of the dishes to the native area. This isn't fine dining; this is the place that tourists don't bother to find. Both entrees came with scoops of white rice and macaroni salad. Nic informed me that Hawaiians loved their carbs and mayo. The macaroni salad was quite good, and defiantly tasted homemade. My shorts ribs were grilled just enough to sear, fell apart in my hands. Paul brought us Teriyaki sauce and Asian chili sauce, but I didn't even bother to use them. I also tasted the Katsu, which was a breaded chicken cutlet. Crunchy outside with moistness still locked in. By the time we finished our meal, the restaurant was packed. We stayed for a couple more Longboard Lagers until we saw Paul turning out the Open sign. Without realizing it, we were there about three hours. This is definite return trip for the both of us. Paul informed us of his bringing in musical acts for the guests in the upcoming months.

Being stationed in Hawaii in 97 I became a fan of Hawaiian food i.e. mahi mahi and katsu chicken mac salad with rice etc... Living in Vegas and Arizona I made it my business to find the Hawaiian BBQ places. Now here in Atl although I had to travel an hour north from Fayette County it was worth it. First time EVER eating Hawaiin BBQ on a plate with silverware- the chains are always styrofoam and plasticware. The mac salad was different and we recommended he expand south but he was not receptive to the idea. Was a bit pricey for a family of 4 but I think that was mainly the drinks that took us over. $36 for a min plate 2 combos a beef bbq sandwhich with fries and 4 drinks....yeah...a bit pricey indeed compared to west coast for $25 with drinks.

I had the BBQ. Now this isn't traditional pork spareribs -- far from it. More like marinated beef steak. It's pretty good, served with white rice and some sauce. I has the lunch special so it was affordable, about $6 and some change.

I have wanted to try Waikikie Hawaiian BBQ for a few years now, and only just got around to it this past December. If I were to rate just the food alone, I would give it 2 stars (if you've had L&L, I think you'll find it better) - but the decor is great and so I bumped it up to 3 stars. I ordered the BBQ chicken curry, which was okay. The curry itself was all right, but the chicken was cut into tiny pieces, the greens were oily, and the macaroni salad wasn't that great. My mother ordered the BBQ short ribs, which was mostly just fat. As the menu is so large, I might go back one day to try something else.

I stop at Waikikie every Friday afternoon after work for a quick fish sandwich and a beer. You cannot beat the quality of the food for the price. I haven't been disappointed yet. The fish on the mahi burger is always perfectly fried, never soggy, greasy or overbattered. A nice size fillet on a fresh bun with lettuce, tomato, and pickles. Comes with fries, but the staff will sub rice or mac salad upon request. Teriyaki tofu is sauteed with fresh veg and homemade sauce. A great option for non-meat eaters. I've also tried the fried plantains which are sweet, juicy, and oddly complemented by the cabbage they are served on. Crab Rangoon is standard frozen fare, but pretty good as well. My boyfriend and son swear by the chicken combo. Staff is friendly and accomodating. The beer is cold and cheap. Patio is nicely isolated from Briarcliff traffic. An overall great value.

Cheap Hawaiian decor with a large menu. The food is just OK, you order up front and pay and then they bring your food out to you. I got the grilled spicy chicken which comes with rice and macaroni salad. It was OK, just not great by any means. My husband got the Hawaiian Plate which comes with chicken, beef, and short rib and also rice and macaroni salad. It had a good terriaki taste, but the meat is cheap and tough. I am giving this 2 stars because of the quality of the ingredients and I thought the food was average but also is not expensive. The people behind the counter were nice and they had live music on Saturday night. They also have outdoor seating.

I just wanted to note that on my last visit (this was several months ago but I forgot to Yelp it until now), I finally tried the spam musubi. For those who haven't had the Waikikie experience (or I guess visited a Hawaiian lunch counter elsewhere), this is kind of like a spam sushi roll. Even though I was skeptical about spam before my initial visit to Waikikie, the spam musubi was yummy. Definitely worth trying!

Three for originality... -It was clean and well kept, good decorations -The price was around $9 (lunch) -The meat had a odd flavor not good or bad just odd and had fat -Not really a sauce to comment on -Lots to choose from -Staff was friendly -Sides were pretty good I have had BBQ in Hawaii and this is not to be compared.

Very reminiscent of mall chinese food. Perhaps I got the wrong items, but my food was basically inedible. I had some version of bbq chicken - I figured it was safe for seafood allergy, and confirmed with the mostly helpful guy at the counter. It turned out to be dark meat cut off the bone, which isnt really my idea of excellent grub. The macaroni salad was pretty tasty, but sure wasnt anything to write home about. If I go again, for some unknown reason, I'll try different items as the stuff I got was definitely not so great.

Great Concept! Very Clean! Service Excellent! Owner was all over the place in a good way! I enjoyed the Hawaiian music and decor! Food was OK! Pork Dumplings were good! Chicken Wings very good! Kimchee was great! BBQ Pork Plate was good not great, not enough meat. Spicy Pork was excellent. Everyone is right about the Macaroni Salad, it was great! This is one of those places where you have 1 or 2 favorites and you stick with them.

The atmosphere is fun, but the food I had was just average. I had the Teryiaki chicken (probably should have ordered the actual BBQ). However I will go back. I think with a different food choice, it would be worth it just to check out to the islands for a little while.

Ok so first off let me start by saying im from california, and hawaiian BBQ is just something i naturally crave. Anyone else from the golden state can understand how deprived we can feel at times because of the lack of familiar foods in georgia. After reading several reviews i decided to take a chance since this is the ONLY hawaiian BBQ place in ATL, and i have two words for you..FREAKIN' AWESOME!! The decor in the restaurant is a lot spunkier then any hawaiian BBQ place iv been to back home(L&L hawaiian bbq && hawaiian drive-in), also you can tell by the quality and flavors of the food that your meal was prepared with care. If your familiar with hawaiian food or your looking to try it this place is definitely a spot you would want to check out. I kno i will be back..its the closest thing i can get to home =]

my gf and i had the 2 item lunch special today - $6.99 per plate. we tried... 1) kalua pork - great IMO (gf said it was a little too salty) 2) chicken katsu - good (typical chicken katsu; the chicken could be a little bigger IMO) 3) bbq beef - decent 4) spicy chicken - i'll pass on this one next time (basically chicken coated with siracha) overall; the staff was very friendly, decor and ambiance was casual, decent prices, and the food was good.

GREASY! All the of meats are super greasy. However, sometimes greasy is good. I usually order the beef short ribs because I love Kalbi (Korean marinated beef short ribs), and Waikikie's beef short ribs are kind of similar to Kalbi. It's flavorful, greasy, and super fatty. If you're like me, you'll probably have a pile of fat and bones left on the side of your plate by the end of the meal. It comes with a ball of white rice and a ball of macaroni salad. I love their macaroni salad. I don't usually like macaroni salad, but they must put a lot of love in theirs because I just can't get enough of it when I go there. It's delicious! So good that I can't even describe it. This place isn't a great eat, and it's probably not worth the money; most dishes are $7-$10. However, it's definitely worth trying just for the macaroni salad. Haha!

Mediocre food, small portions. Service was friendly enough. The kahlua pork was way too salty. The grilled chicken and kalbi were decent though. Overall, not impressed, will not be back.

If you've ever eaten Hawaiian BBQ in one of those great roadside spots in Hawaii, you'll feel right at home here. My favorite is the chicken teriyaki (get the brown sauce from the condiments area for this.)

    (4)
  • Matt C.

meats, rice, and macaroni salad pretty much sum up the menu here... but all are very tasty. the meat's not the highest quality (think chinese delivery-type meat), but the sauces make that irrelevant.

  • Katee L.

I have never been to Hawaii so I can't tell you how authentic the food is. The food was pretty standard though. Nothing spectacular but not bad, and not too expensive. I tried the spam musubi which everyone talked about. Good to try, but if I had eaten both rolls (I split an order) I think that would have been overkill. I got the chicken combo, which comes with the chicken bbq and donkatsu. I thought the bbq chicken was thin, not like a full breast portion. In any case, it was still too much food for me and my sister to finish. They should seriously consider not putting fried items on top of cooked cabbage. It makes everything soggier. The sweet tea was really good and the guy was friendly. Chill atmosphere, cute decorations.

I like this place for numerous reasons. Now, I have never been to Haiwai, so I'm not quite sure what the food should taste like exactly. But I have tried numerous dishes at the times that I have gone and each one has been very good. They are even than most with prices. They give pretty large sized plates out for the price, the amount of meat you get is awesome, more than you'd get somewhere else. I always have extra food leftover for another meal. I will agree that the owner of the place does appear to have a bit if an attitude at times, but if you talk with him, he really isn't bad. They have some live music at times, which is nice. It's never packed out , there is always somewhere to sit; you won't have to wonder if you'll be standing in a long line. There is a steady flow of customers. The wait staff has always been very nice and efficient. Food comes out within 15 minutes, you have the option to sit inside or outside. I do recommend this business.

My Hawaiian BFF introduced me to this place because they actually serve SPAM!! And that, apparently, makes it the real deal. Nothing fancy, here- BBQ plates with two scoops of rice and awesome macaroni salad. SPAM musubi are slices of teriyaki fried spam on rice wrapped in seaweed- Japanese nigiri-style. Don't knock it till you try it! I heard it's a popular weekday lunch stop, but we frequent this place as a Sunday "brunch" spot when we're hungover and don't want to deal with lines or other loud brunchers.

I love this restaurant, but let me be honest in saying I have never been to Hawaii, nor do I have any fair gauge in Hawaiian cuisine. It's located diagonally from Whole Foods and next door to an organic car wash. This place has it all! Very large menu which makes it easy to have something new every time I stop in. You would think. Right? I am in love with the Chicken Katsu and macaroni salad. I can have that over and over again several times a week and not feel the least bit guilty. My son likes their appetizers and orders them on his own. I haven't had anything that I didn't like, but then again I haven't strayed far across the menu yet either. I will update this review when I do.

WAIKIKIKIKIKIKIKIKIKIE, IM SUCH A FAN FAN FAN!! Friend, this is theeee ultimate lunch spot and you should ALWAYS get the lunch special--choice of 2 meats, side salad, and macaroni salad. And if you are feeling especially hungry, get an order of spam masubi, you will not regret it. Here are some of my go-to's: -chicken katsu: crispy fried chicken cutlet, never dry, always tasty -bbq chicken: almost like a chicken teriyaki, not overly sweet or saucy, tender -bbq beef rib: kalbi, bone-in, great flavor -bbq beef: bulgogi, no bone, super tasty, not too sweet -spicy pork: spicy pork bulgogi, no bone, not over spicy Ps. they have pitchers of beer!

Went here for a Sunday lunch. Tried the shrimp chips, sweet plantains and spam musubi to start. The plantains were perfect. Very sweet. I had the Kalua Pork plate and the pork was perfect. Great flavors and super tender. I would really recommend it! I want to go back and try different dishes. The best part was that there was a group of 20+ ukulele players jamming during lunch. It was so entertaining!! I also love the decor...they have done such a great job. Very festive!

We came here on a random day to grab a bite to eat. Honestly Ricky was hesitant when we pulled up and asked "are you sure this place is good?". Luckily we both loved it! Get the lunch combo during lunch hours and it is a steal. We tried the katsu, bbq chicken, and "bulgolgi". No short ribs anymore :(. BRING THEM BACCCKKKK!!!! Despite no ribs the food is delicious. The side is with some rice and macaroni salad which was also good. It will remind you of L&L chain. Overall great and will be back and recommend.

We loved our lunch here. The place is very casual, which may make you think the food won't be impressive, but once you start eating, you will be very satisfied. We started with the spam musabi, a neat hybrid of a Korean dish with the Hawaiian signature spam filling. This was quite tasty. We then had our entrees, both getting a combination that featured two over-easy eggs, along with two meats. Very good. A brown sauce that looked like it might be bland was in fact tasty and slightly sweet. A distinctive, enjoyable experience. Also, they're very nice.

How have I never tried Hawaiian barbecue? I stopped in today, mid week, around 2:00, so most folks were already back to the office. The gentleman behind the counter was so gracious, I gave him privileges to choose my lunch special. Excellent service, friendly staff. I had the Katsu Chicken and Kalua Pork combo. The chicken is crispy on the outside and extremely tender on the inside. It was delicious dipped in the Katsu sauce. I would love to have a 55 gallon drum of that sauce at my house. It's not for sale. Sad. The macaroni salad was perfect and I really wish I had ordered two or three more scoops of that. I finished my meal with a blue raspberry/pina colada shaved ice. Such a good day!

This place is dank. I come here about once a week and it never disappoints. The food is so reasonably priced and always tastes fresh. My go-to is the teriyaki chicken special. The daily lunch special is also a steal. You get to choose two meats and it comes with a scoop of macaroni salad (which is amazing), rice, and salad. An even bigger plus is the service. The restaurant owner is a sweetheart and everyone is very accommodating. Overall, this is the perfect place for a nice, casual lunch.

The decor of Waikikie Hawaiian BBQ is a bit cheesy. But secretly I kind of like that and the food is extremely yummy. It's not quite as good as Trader Vic's. But it gets the job done when you're craving some sweet meats and you don't want to pay the $30/meal price tag at Trader Vic's. I highly suggest the Waikikie Combo. The beef is sweet but a bit greasy and the chicken is delectable. The Spam Musubi is definitely worth a try as well. I've never had Spam before and the musubi left me pleasantly surprised. I can't wait to come back to try more of the items on the rathe extensive menu. However, I swear they put roofies in the food or something. The husband and I have eaten here twice for lunch. And immediately after we're done eating we have to take a nap.

Having milk allergies in the family, I asked for the macaroni salad to be on the side. The "lovely" guy at the register made it seem like I was inconveniencing him with my request. If they do not want people with food allergies at their restaurant, then they should simply state that somewhere in big letters so it is visible for all to see. Never again...

We decided to try Waikikie BBQ after reading some of the good reviews on Yelp. I would have to say that I agree with many of the lower ratings. The food is on the greasy side. We tried the spam masubi which was just rice and spam rolled in seaweed with a teriyaki sauce. The combo plate was the best, but if you don't care for fatty cuts or dark meat chicken you will be disappointed. I had the pork kalua (with cabbage) and the flavors were decent but the pork was very greasy. Everything was better with a little splash of teriyaki but what is the point if you are drowning your food in sauce? I must say that the owner is extremely friendly and helpful in guiding the guest through the menu - his service was on point!

I have a mixed feeling about this place. While some dishes are decent, some are disappointing. I would give 4 stars for; - Spam musubi : 2 big rolls for $2.99 is filling and it tastes good, too. - Kalua pork : Hawaiian-style pulled pork with cabbage. It's moist, tender, and delicious. It tastes like no other kind of BBQ I have tried. And 2 or 3 stars for ; - Sweet plantains ; I like the sweet & slightly tangy flavor of these deep-fried bananas but it's way, way, way too oily & greasy. - Macaroni salad : bland and forgettable. - Rice : I don't get their tiny small portion of rice. I finished the rice within 2 bites...what the heck. I would give it 3.5 out of 5 but I round it up to 4 because they're cheap and kalua pork is simply delicious.

it's a 4 for the sheer novelty of it. i mean, where else are you going to find cheap hawaiian food in atlanta? if we were going by taste alone, i'd probably give it a 3. i've been here a couple of times and each time i've been, the owner (i'm assuming) is always there to take my order with a smile on his face. really pleasant guy. k, now for the food: each time i've gone, i've ordered the spam musubi and some kind of bbq combo plate. the spam musubi is pretty much spam with some sauce rolled in rice rolled in a seaweed wrap. doesn't sound all that great, but i always have to get it when i come. the bbq (like most people have already commented) is a lot like korean bbq. the short ribs are pretty much korean galbi. it's a good intro to korean food if you've never had it. the marinade is really good, although one thing my dad taught me was you can always tell the quality of the short rib by the cut. if you can feel little pieces of bone (not chunks, but a size you can definitely notice when you chomp down on a bite that isn't all meat), that's not a good piece of meat cause they didn't cut it right. i'm sorry to say, but as delicious as the meat is, you can definitely taste those small bits of bone in your short ribs. the chicken i thought was good. very tender and, compared to the other bbq meats in the combo, there was no lack of chicken. being asian, i loved that it was served with rice and the macaroni salad was some of the best i've ever had. i was tempted to order a big party bucket on my way out it was so good. the last time i went my girlfriend and i also ordered the bbq ramen. the broth was a little low and a little bland. soy sauce made it a little better, although i like my ramen soupy. i've definitely had better ramen at more authentic japanese places but for 6 bucks at a hawaiian place, it's not that bad. their menu is huuuuge, which always makes me want to come back to try more even though ordering the same thing every time i go is not helping me accomplish that task. it's a great place to check out at least once. my girlfriend and i have cravings for some hawaiian food every once in a while which says a lot about the place.

Ever since moving to Atlanta, I decided to follow Yelpers when it came to making decisions on where to eat. Waikiki was one of the first places that came on the list regarding BBQ. To keep it short, food is amazing, prices are cheap, and the old dude running the place has mad jokes to keep you coming back with a smile!

Terrific, really great service. Ordered: - Spam Musubi: GIGANTIC!!! - Waikikie combo with BBQ Short Rib, BBQ Beef, and BBQ Chicken. - Waikikie super combo with all of the above plus some eggs. I was super excited to go here, but the food I ordered (regular combo) was straight up Korean-style flavoring! Like, galbi! I'm going to go one more time, but this time I will order from the middle of the menu (huge menu on the wall filled and filled with different kinds of food).

It is a non duplicated joint in the Atl. Imagine that. If I could imagine being anywhere in Haw ii at a great five star resort ---this place would be the tourist trap dive next door.Spam(mystery meat) more than three ways-check, budweiser (kona)of the islands- check, cheese burger smaller than the bun(bikini) -check. I came here for a chef's birthday with a party of like 20--so keep that in mind. Now, the chefs where great people to hang and drink beer with (also some of the best competition chefs in the country),and I really enjoyed my island bbq experience but it just seems like a revamped and similar version (based on flavor of meat) to cheaper Korean BBQ cooking --a little to much sweetness. Although, during the winter this place could give you some reprieve from the cold weather blues. I will go back because they are one of a kind and the ladies in the kitchen seem really cool and good at what they do.The menu also justifies a few more trips. Spam Sushi!! hooty hooo

Great place with a lot of character and very friendly owner (he even played a bit for me while I was ordering, next to the live band!). I like the bbq ribs as well as the macaroni salad. Did I mention they also have thai bubble tea (yes!). The mango slushie was overly sweet for me, but that's fine. My boyfriend really likes the spam sushi dish as well as the pork katsu. Definitely a laid back place and nice to eat dinner in.

I have been going to Waikikie since it opened because it's just up the street from my house. I am a big fan of casual dining because it is cheaper, and you can linger with friends after you eat without feeling like you are "camping" in a server's station. I always have a good experience at Waikikie. The staff (including the owner) is always friendly, the food is always fresh and well-prepared, and the portions are perfect. I like going to places where the staff remembers you, and they do here. I get an Udon Beef Noodle soup that is excellent. (It's on the menu as ramen noodle, but you can substitute udon noodles for a buck.) The broth, meat, veggies and noodles are all delicious, and I am so full afterwards that I slosh home. I like the chicken Katsu, too, and I often get #16. I don't particularly like macaroni salad (though theirs is excellent), so I get an extra dollop of rice instead. The fried dumplings are very good, too. And I have never had the shave ice, but the green tea ice cream is lovely. Don't forget to take your chopsticks!

I was so excited when I came across the name of this restaurant. I expected meat to taste like BBQ and a fun atmosphere. I ordered Waikikie BBQ and the pineapple Katsu chicken. I was greatly disappointed. The food tasted like warmed up frozen dinners. It did not give me any perception of being barbecue W.H BBQ is a great idea but the food is not even on the same par of McDonalds?

Great food and a very friendly owner. We got the combo #1 and teriyaki chicken both of which very terrific. I also saw $7 pitchers of Yuengling advertised. The guava candy near the counter was just icing to the cake.

I adore this place. The customer service is splendid. The restaurant is always clean and while very decorated is not unpleasant. I only eat seafood and found the menu to be more than substantial that I would not have to eat only one thing every time. They get fairly busy on the weekends however, you can always call ahead to do carry out (which is what i do). The food is well seasoned and always fresh and hot. Def recommend. My fav is the grilled teriyaki tilapia.

spam musubi + waikikie combo #1 + hawaiian wheat beers = cowabunga!!!! the place is gnarly, betty's are cute, and all the bro's love relaxin' here... okay i'll stop. spam musubi was delish... i've never had a real one but it's not like you can fuck up spam... combo plate had three meats over cabbage, which were delish, two scoops of rice and macaroni salad. not sure how macaroni salad ended up on a hawaiian menu though... i wouldn't get it again. i took your mom here and got lei'd....

Stopped by here yesterday for the first time to get some take-out. My meal was good, but i really want to try some of the more interesting stuff on the menu. I was overwhelmed by the large menu boards behind the register and ended up quickly choosing something that sounded safe (waikikie bbq chicken). I did grab a take-out menu so that I can be prepared next time!

Super cheesy decor and they have like 50 items on the menu with spam, but this place started my obsession for Sriracha and for that, I am greatful! I used to come here for lunch about twice a week (be away they are not open on Mondays) and almost always got the BBQ Beef. It comes with a scoop of white rice, a scoop of pasta salad, and the beef over some cabbage. YUM! I know people hate on rice for not having a flavor, but I love it and when you throw some sriracha and teriyaki sauce on top, boom! I've had many other dishes from there, but the BBQ beef was the favorite by a mile. The kimchee I remember wasn't very good, though. Anyhoo, thanks Waikikie for letting me listen to some haiwaiian ukulele as I scarf down anything covered in Sriracha!

  • Judy P.

The owner of this place used live in Hawaii while stationed there for the military. And all I can say is the food here is ONO-licious! The Kalua Pork with Cabbage, the Kim Chee, the Chicken Katsu, the BBQ Short Ribs and Coconut Shrimp just to name a few items was phenomenal. Oh and the macaroni salad.... was exactly the way it's made in Hawaii. If you live in Atlanta or you're in the area, definitely stop by for some local grinds and a taste of Aloha!

Fantastic authentic Hawaiian BBQ like you can get on the West Coast. They've got an extensive menu which covers all the basics. You've got your Kalua Pork, your eggs and gravy, your spam sushi, and of course - homemade macaroni salad. To top it all off, they serve an excellent beer from Hawaii called Kona. Great atmosphere, VERY family friendly, good prices, healthy food. Check it out, and make sure to try the Spicy Pork.

What a disappointment ! I've driven past this place a dozen times and have always been in too much of a hurry to stop and try it. One day when I had some time to kill I remembered that it was close by and decided to give it a try. Cute pleasing exterior and interior decor, very clean and nice. I was sure that I had found a little culinary hidden treasure. I asked the owner to make suggestion and he recommended the assorted BBQ plate adding that it was their most popular dish. He told me that it would give me a little taste of everything, chicken, beef and pork. When he set my plate down in front of me my heart sank. I really can only describe the chicken as looking similar to something that I've been served at the poorest quality Chinese restaurants, slices of dark meat chicken laced with fat, I'm not even sure if it's chicken! The beef was no better thinly sliced fatty beef attached to a piece of bone, the type of meat that stretches as you try to cut it, eventually you have to tear it apart with your fork and knife. The pork was chopped up into small pieces so that you hopefully wouldn't notice its fat content as you choked it down. I'm not even going to discuss the macaroni salad and scoops of other stuff that was served with this mess. I rarely complain but I had to interrupt a conversation that the owner was having with some other customers. I told him that he had done a great job with his decorating and keeping the place clean and tidy. I also told him that that was some of the nastiest, cheapest cuts of meat that I had ever been served and told him that he could have my plate back. He took my plate and said "sorry"; Yeah me too.

Waikikie is my first and only exposure to Hawaiian bbq so I have no frame of reference. That said it was pretty good. I had a combo plate that was pretty tasty but didn't particularly wow me. Not into that macaroni salad. Their menu is expansive though so I'll probably try something else the next time I'm there. It is certainly a unique offering in Atlanta as I can't think of any other places like this. Definitely give this place a try. 3

I had heard really great things about this place from co-workers. However, I was pretty disappointed when I tried it for myself. The portions were really small. I had to stop on the way back to work and get a second lunch (and I'm not even one of those big dudes who eats alone). Also, I remember the prices were kinda high. The food was OK, but not anything too special. Sorta reminded me of the food at mall Food Courts that says its not Asian food (Ex.-Cajun, Hawaiian, etc.), but actually is pretty much identical to the stuff at the Chinesse booth beside it. Luckily, I love that stuff. Anyway, I would say feel free to give it a try, but it might not make it into your usual rotation.

If you are ever curious for something Hawaiian, check out Waikikie Hawaiian BBQ. Don't expect anything fancy, this is traditional comfort food, even with a side of macaroni salad. The extended menu is a little ambitious but no worries, it is very reasonably price so you can come back for seconds!

I'm a big fan of this restaurant just because I would have never thought to see a hawaiian restaurant that actually delivers so far away from the highlands. The specials with the macaroni, ribs, chicken, and side of egg is what hit the spot for me!!! Not a good choice for vegetarians or noodle soup lovers.... Their ramen basically has got to leave the menu, but at least they try. All in all, good choice if you ever need a hawaiian fixed :)

I kept driving by this place since I moved to the area. My gf tried it out before I had and like it. We both stopped by a few weeks ago. Being from SoCal Hawaiian BBQ is nothing new to me. I was pleasantly surprised it was pretty on point the only thing was the macaroni wasn't as good as L&L but still decent.

Just go up to the counter and say some random number and you will get something very good. Try it. Walk-up and say I want the #10 and it will be an excellent experience. Nothing will let you down. But, for reference, I love the Number 1 and 3.

I don't know why, but I love this place. I go there with the same two guys all the time. We basically order 3 or 4 plates, and split them between the 3 of us. It works out well and is pretty damn cheap. Love the patio seating also. As for the food, they have a wide selection of typical Hawaiian and Japanese items. I recommend the katsu (Japanese fried pork or chicken cutlet) and the house special fried rice. By the way, spam isn't that bad like this. This is far from gourmet food, but it's a extremely relaxing environment and the owner is really chill. Also has a really good selection of beer for a fast-food type place. He told us that his restaurant was voted best high food in High Times also lol!

Good low-priced small portions for those who aren't super hungry, clean, efficient. Discovered it around 7:30 Sun evening and could tell there were customers which was a good sign for an off-hour and weren't disappointed.

Have been once before & enjoyed the food. Yesterday evening we drove in traffic for nearly an hour in the rain to bring a friend for dinner. Tons of Christmas lights were on outside, but the place was completely dark. Apparently they are closed 2 weeks for the holidays. Great that they're able to do this, however would have been nice if they posted something to this effect on their website and/or put a recorded message on their phone. Kind of disappointed in the lack of consideration for their customers. There was at least one other car of prospective diners that pulled in while we were there.

If you have ever been to Hawaii, then you may know what the locals enjoy for a simple meal - Plate Lunch! (2 scoop rice, 1 scoop macaroni salad, and choice of meat) Oh how I love the Hawaiian plate lunch!!! The restaurant has a very clean environment; with clean, soft tropical colored walls with quaint island artwork and memorabilia. This fast-casual restaurant is very dear to me. It's the only restaurant that I know of in Atlanta that serves this style of food and is very reminiscent of my years in Hawaii. The restaurant is not huge, but not too small. The menu is simple to understand with pictures of their popular items. If you're feeling adventurous, try #39 SPAM Musubi a delicious Hawaiian treat! I gave this place 5 stars because it makes me proud to have this cuisine in this city. CHEERS!

I have been here a few times last year and back in 2010. I have loved eating and being here all of the times that I have been here. The service has always been friendly, quick, and excellent all of the times that I have been here and eaten here. They have the best Asian-Hawaiian food ever. I love how the atmosphere has a nice Hawaiian feel and Hawaiian theme to it. I have ordered their Japanese Curry dish, as well as their Japanese Tonkatsu dish, and their Korean BBQ dish. I also always loved how all of thier dishes are always served hot steamed white rice as well. The food here is absolutely delicious as well as well proportioned and served and presented so nicely and neatly on the plate as well. They do have awesome and excellent food as well as a super clean atmosphere as well. I would most definitely recommend comming here as well as dining here.

I was a bit harsh with my earlier review. I would go for 3.5 stars if I could, but I guess if I update it with a 4 it kind of evens out. Anyway, for a Hawaiian restaurant in the Southeast this is an easy 4. A little taste of an island thousands of miles away. I can appreciate that. The flavors are on par and I solved my previously mentioned rice woes by cooking rice and getting the food to-go. Stretched my meal by a full 100%. Good stuff.

I've driven by Waikikie since I have lived in Atlanta and I have also been curious. I finally went and was not disappointed. The food was really good and inexpensive. The service was really friendly and the atmosphere was great, including live music. I had the #1 combo and a coconut Kona draft beer. I'm glad that I finally went, I'l be back.

I go to this place every time I get to Atlanta (about five times a year). My fave is the spam musubi. They have several salads that are good and the Katsu chicken or pork is great! The staff is friendly, parking is a litle tight but there is a large parking lot next to it and you can park there as well.

Want some island-style Hawaiian Asian food? This place offers, among other things, Hawaiian BBQ beef, pork, chicken as well as some distinct Japanese and Korean food (Udon and sushi) - all at a surprisingly inexpensive price. With each order (you pay for drinks, but they have free refills), you'll get a couple of cups of rice, and a small macaroni salad. You can take it to go or sit inside and watch the TVs. This place is situated on La Vista and Briarcliff, along side the Catus Car Wash and across the street from Starbucks. Parking is not a problem (in fact, it never seems to be a problem. . . I'm worried about them). Overall, if you live in the area (or passing by), try this place out. The people are quite nice and frankly. . . I think they need the business. :/

Waikikie is a great, unique restaurant. I am a vegetarian so I was worried there wouldn't be anything for me to eat bc of the "BBQ" in the name, but there are multiple vegetarian options. The vegetables in my meal were fresh and not overcooked, which is always good and I found the serving to be just about right.--even the rice which seems to be a common complaint. It is very clean and decorated nicely, with a great patio. It is more than just good food, the whole experience is wonderful.

    (4)
  • Ty M.

Food is pretty bland. The kalua pork, which is Hawaiian pulled pork, leaves a lot to be desired - they use too much smoke flavoring and its far from authentic. The chicken katsu (breaded chicken) is just ok and so is their bbq chicken. Rice portions are pretty small. Ambience is not bad, but when they have the music playing, its hard to hear your party talk. The cash register dude was also rude and cold - where's the aloha spirit bra?

  • Erica D.

Hawaii and Barbecue, what's not to like?? If you're looking for a real taste of the Islands, and to eat like a ka'amaina (local), this is the place for you. Don't be scared by the spam on the menu; try it, and you'll be surprised how good it tastes Hawaiian style. When you see the word bbq, think grilled, not covered in sauce like in the south. I've yet to see anyone dislike the food, no matter how picky an eater they are. For a safe bet, try the Katsu Chicken (basically fried chicken tenders), which is especially good curry-style, or the Kalua Pork. If you're feeling more adventurous and have a hearty appetite, go for the Loco Moco or Spam Moco. Enjoy!

*Mouth watering* Oh I miss this place so much! We used to go here all the time when we lived on that side of town...not so, anymore. :( It's delicious food at a great price. There's a lot on the menu to tempt you, and it's all good! If you're a meat lover, you will not be sorry! Even though this place may seem a bit strange at first, you gotta give them a try; I promise you'll be back for more!

  • Anna P.

Where else in Atlanta can you get Spam? The owner and staff are friendly and remember us, and the food is consistently good. No, it's not 100% authentic, but you're in Atlanta! Four stars instead of five for portion size--I agree with other reviewers that they could be more generous, especially when the meat is 50% cabbage (as in the kahlua pork, which is delicious). It's probably a healthy size serving, but we like to order different things and share entrees around the table and we fight over the pork.

I tried Waikikie to satisfy my curiosity. I couldn't help wondering: Is Hawaiian BBQ different from southern BBQ? Will this be a hidden gem? Is anyone even in there?(the parking lot is endlessly vacant). My answer is the same for all three: yes! Simply put, the wait staff is excited to have business. My BBQ chicken was fresh, deliciously tangy, and inexpensive. It may not be authentic Hawaiian, but it's tasty nonetheless. You don't have to worry if you are on your lunch break because the food arrives quicky. The small colored lights and fake palm trees are adorable. It seems that Waikikie is trying hard.....give them a chance! Come taste the islands!

This place is fun, different from everything else in Atlanta. I almost always go there because I'm craving the spam musubi. Something about the salty meat with rice and seaweed wrapper really hits the spot!

  • Isabel Y.

Um this place is awesome. Cheesy tiki decor aside, the food is really good and cheap! It's weird-- kind of Asian but not? I believe I got the chicken teriyaki last time, and it was really good! Macaroni salad, also good! I wasn't sure what to expect from a Hawaiian place...Very simple restaurant, reminds me of beachside restaurants in the Pacific Islands (sans beach-- we are in ATL remember!). If I worked closer, I would for sure come here all the time.

Chicken katsu, BBQ chicken, i.e combo #3. How can you go wrong? Course curry katsu is fantastic as well. Fun place, typically quiet which is nice for bringing along someone else. And the staff is always friendly. Usually $10+ for food and drink but well worth it.

  • Dan R.

Nice and clean with great food. Excellent price. You order at the counter and they bring it to your table. Interesting Hawaiin musical programs played on the TV sets. Now the food. The BBQ chicken was excellent and had a nice fruity zest to it. The BBQ beef was very good too and a bit reminiscent of Mongolian beef but again with a sort of zest. The short ribs were good but a bit greasy (somewhat expected of short ribs). The chicken katsu was ok. It's a deep fried thinly cut slice of chicken breast.

I am originally from the beach of Southern California where we have a plethra of Hawaiian or Island cuisine. This is the only place on this side of the country I have come to be reminded of the tastes back west. I've been to Hawaii and sampled first hand its culure and taste. This is very close to that. From the sweet sauces and pork to the beef and macaroni salad. All excellent. I asked them where they got the idea for this place because everything there was so familiar and I was told because of the Hawaiian places the owner had been to in california. There you have it, great and as authentic as you can get over here.

It's good, it's cheap and it's different. I have tried several menu items (from a very extensive list) and have not been disappointed. I recommend the Spicy Chicken and Kalua Pork...Both have unusal flavors and you can get them together on a lunch plate until 4pm.

SO I wasn't "blown away" by this place. It is off the corner of Briarcliff and LaVista rd. It should be no surprise I ordered Hawaiian BBQ Chicken (and the name of the place is Waikikie ... Hawaiian BBQ... go figure). I WAS GOOD, don't get me wrong. I will go back to this place. I am not sure what I was expecting (more fresh fruit, more of a true Hawaiian atmosphere... not sure). The chicken was great, salad a little bland for a Hawaiian meal. The service was great and the people nice. The place is very clean for a small little restaurant. If you are in the area, it is worth it to stop in and grab a bite to eat.

  • Blissful G.

I love this place. It is a pretty accurate representation of the Hawaiian plate lunch chains. Mac salad can be a bit bland, but the pork and cabbage is hard to beat. Choose wisely and you'll eat well for very little money.

Quirky weird fun, on Briarcliff! They serve SPAM here, apparently Hawaiians consume more SPAM than anyone else. I give them three stars just for being different.

I felt like Hawaiian for lunch, so my brother and I decided to give it a try. There aren't too many parking spaces, but there are a few more behind the restaurant farther back. Walk in and place the order at the counter. Service was fine. They will give you a number and bring your food out to your table. Inside was comfortable and decorated with a tropical theme. We ordered the lunch special (your choice of two meats plus a scoop of rice and a scoop of macaroni salad) of chicken katsu and spicy pork. I also ordered the loco moco (hamburger meat with fried eggs and gravy). We ordered thai iced tea with boba and spam musubi too. Overall, the food was inexpensive but the scoops of rice and macaroni salad are on the smaller side. I enjoyed all of the tasty food though. My brother also ordered some samosas to-go (an order of ten for only $3-ish), which came with a curry dipping sauce.

  • Erin C.

Place your order and pay at the counter and they'll give you a number to set on your tabletop. When your food is ready, they bring it out to you. There's indoor seating, as well as outdoor seating in a covered patio area. I really liked the outdoor seating area, so we chose to eat outside. I thought it was cool how they have plants everywhere and tropical music playing. What we ordered: Spam Musubi ($3.49 for 2 pieces) - Simple, but good. Cooked spam with a sweet teriyaki tasting sauce, wrapped up in rice and seaweed. Combo #15 - Hawaiian BBQ Beef ($7.99) - This combo is served with two scoops of rice and one scoop of macaroni salad. The macaroni salad was bland. The beef had a sweet taste, as expected. Enough food for the price and the taste was alright, but I wouldn't come back for it. Lunch Special with Kalua Pork & Katsu Chicken ($6.99) - The lunch special is offered every day from 11am - 4pm, and includes your choice of 2 items, served with rice, macaroni salad, and a small green salad. The item choices for the lunch special include: BBQ Chicken, Kalua Pork, BBQ Pork, BBQ Beef, Fried Shrimp, Seasonal Veggies, Katsu Chicken, Spicy Pork, Spicy Chicken, BBQ Beef Rib, and Fried Fish. My girlfriend ordered it with the Kalua Pork and Katsu Chicken. She thought the Katsu Chicken was fine, but couldn't eat the pork because of how salty it was. I tried it and agreed. I don't know if that's what it normally tastes like or if someone just accidentally put way too much salt in it, but it was bad. The portions of rice and macaroni salad are pretty small, one scoop of each. Not really a big deal since it's only $6.99. The salad is tiny as well, but the menu does refer to it as a "small green salad." It comes with cheap tasting ranch dressing drizzled on top. This was my first time trying Hawaiian food, so I can't compare it to anything or comment on the authenticity. Overall, I thought everything was just okay. I am glad I finally got to try Spam Musubi, but I wouldn't come back for it.

This place made such a good impression on my girlfriend and I that we decided that we have to come back on our way back from vacation. So we did. Last time we both got spam musubi and 2 different fried rices, this time we got spam musubi, fried plantains, and 2 lunch specials. The spam musubi was just as delicious as the first time. The fried plantains were not oily and just the right combination of crispy and soft(it was damn good). Now the lunch special is what you want to go with if you have never eaten Hawaiian food and/or unsure of what to get because you choose 2 meats to go along a scoop of rice and macaroni salad(which was very tasty but not as good as what they serve in Hawaii). She got BBQ beef and fried shrimp, I got Kahlua pork and spicy pork. Everything was good but the spicy pork really stood out. I'd get that every time but I want to try more of the menu first.

Amazing experience... Customer service was excellent Joe was the one who greeted us and made sure we were taken care of. Having to live in the south is hard when your from Hawaii and grew up eating local food. However this is the place to go when your missing home or just wanting a taste of island food from Hawaii. We had the lunch specials which were awesome. Friday and Saturday nights they have live entertainment. We didn't get to see it but I would definitely go if I was around Atlanta. Restaurant was clean and I felt like I was back in Hawaii. Food tasted just like back home. BBQ chicken, shrimp,Mac salad, kalua pork, chicken Katsu was what we ordered and everything was on point. Definitely one of my favorite spots in the ATL !

Having passed this place a number of times, I'm glad a friend finally dragged me in one Friday night for the $7.99 pitcher of Yuengling. Besides such a great price for a full pitcher, the good is delicious, and I've been back a number of times since my initial visit! I would definitely recommend the spam masubi (spam wrapped inside rice inside of seaweed, almost like a large piece of sushi). I would also recommend the chicken katsu (one of the best I've had in terms of being cooked properly). The BBQ beef is good as well. All combos come with rice and macaroni salad, and if you come for lunch, there's a discount. The parking is a bit limited, but I've never been unable to get a spot (there's parking behind the building as well as in front), and they have seating both indoors and on the patio.

Alright so I figured it out. If you get those combination dinner platter plates, you'll pay a lot for not a lot of food. I love this place. I was just wasn't being smart before. 1) Spam masubis. Get them. If don't like spam, get them. You'll learn to love it. Seriously, I get 3 orders. 4 for me and 2 for my GF and hope she can't finish both. It's that good. It's just rice, spam, sauce, and seaweed. Simple, but life altering. 2) Fried rice. It's awesome. I've gotten the bbq beef and spam. Love them both. I always get wings, masubis, and fried rice rather than a plate. The combination plates just don't cut it. If you want legitimate BBQ, you may want to consider other options. But if you want Hawaiian/Asian food, this is a good spot without having to drive out to Buford Hwy or Duluth. So given my recent experiences and wiser decision making, I'm bumping it up one star. BTW, it can get packed around dinner time on Saturdays. Be warned.

I have really fallen in love with the food here. The spam musubi is a must. Don't let the name scare you, it's really just an oversized sushi roll with a delicious teriyaki smothered center. Their portions are generous and their lunch specials are very reasonably priced, and they also have a small but interesting selection of beers. The real clincher for me though are the shrimp chips. My grandmother used to make these when I was a child, so they bring back wonderful memories. They're nostalgic as well as deliciously addictive, and I could sit and scarf these all day long. The only issue is parking. The lot is very small and navigating it can be little difficult. I usually try to go at off-peak times to avoid a tight squeeze.

Waikikie Hawaiian BBQ Overall: 4.5/5 (rounded up due to the price) Food: 5/5 Price: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Atmosphere: 4.5/5 Nutshell: A wonderful cheap Hawaiian + asian fusion casual self serving food place located in an inconvenient area (hard to turn into) and small parking lot. Food 5/5: Ordered the bbq teriyaki beef bowl + rice spam wrap = $10. The beef bowl had a decent amount of beef/onions with rice. The sauce topped it off with a perfect balance of saltiness and sweet. The wrap was amazing, with the perfectly cooked spam wrapped up in oiled/flavored rice and seaweed. For some reason, its unexpected, but totally works. All in all, it was a lot of food for $ 10. I left very satisfied. Price 5/5: Cheap robust quantity food. What more could you ask for? Service 5/5: Staff was friendly and professional. Food came out in 6 mins. Keep in mind this is self servicing. Atmosphere 4/5: I get what they were trying to do with the Hawaiian vibe, but it was a bit confusing with the decor, odd mixture of asian stuff and scattered printed and different colored hand written menus. Since they are a very casual restaurant, I did not look too deep into this. Overall: Will come back. Highly recommended. CHeers!

This is my husband and my escape from the main land. When we need some aloha in our life we know where to go! Waikikie! This restaurant is so beautifully decorated and immaculate! The menu is laid out In the most user friendly way. I have never ordered anything I did not absolutely love. My favorite dishes are the steamed pork dumplings and the BBQ beef plate. The macaroni salad reminds me of Hawaii so much! I love that we can buy Hawaiian coffee in the restaurant now too! We will keep coming here as long as they will have us! MAHALO Waikikie staff!

The owner is a really nice and friendly guy. He's retired Navy who lived in Hawaii so I guess he wanted to bring paradise to Atlanta. The interior definitely feels like Hawaii. It's large enough to hold around 30-40 people. They also have outdoor patio seating. I got the Waikikie combo, which has the chicken and beef ($8.99). It comes with 2 scoops of rice and 1 scoop of mac salad just like in Waikiki. The mac isn't drenched in mayo so that's a plus. The portions were good as was the taste. They have lots of stuff on the menu worth trying. I would recommend this place.

Last night was the 2nd time I came here. The first time was for lunch and last night dinner. Parking was a nightmare, guess this place is very popular for dinner. There was not a place in the front or back of the premise to park. When my friend turned out, inside I was like, "arrgghhh.." Thank goodness his car has a camera and he could turn his SUV out in such tight spot. When we got out from the back of the premise, another SUV parked in the front was leaving, we finally got our spot, yippee!!! When we opened the front door, we were pleasantly surprised there was live music. We looked around, and almost every table was occupied. We stood in line and the friendly staff took our order half way, he asked if we were dining in, I said yes. He paused taking our order, said to please excuse him so he could clean up the only unoccupied table for the four of us. I was like wow!! and I blurted out "that's one great customer service!!" None of us could believe what happened next, right after the staff cleaned up the table, the girl with two other guys behind us went and sat at the table that the staff cleaned for us and started texting or surfing (basically acting busy). That's one extreme ugly mannerism over there. We didn't know if the two guys asked her to do so, but it does not matter. If your friend asked you to rob a bank, and if you did, you are just one big complete idiot. The two guys in our group were mad, one more so than the other. He told the staff who was finishing taking our order, that someone took our table. He complained very loudly so the two cavemen behind us could hear. Do I think they really care? No, not at all. They have clearly heard the staff telling us he would clean that table for us yet they shamelessly took that table from us. They are just a bunch of dumb people who lack the most basic manners in this world. Was I shocked to see caveman's manners in our society, sure yes!! But I also believe this "One can pay for School, but cannot buy Class!" I know, I know.. I am supposed to review this restaurant and not the people. Then again, the type of clientele contributes to one's dining experience too. Anyway, the staff said he would try to find us another table. Poor guy!! We stood around waiting and one very nice lady said she could move to the opposite side, so we could grab another chair to place at the end so we four could sit at that table. It was not ideal but we really appreciate her thoughtfulness. Thank you so much again if you ever happened to read this review. The last time I ordered the Chicken Katsu rice for lunch and last night the Hawaiian barbecue beef. The Chicken Katsu could never be compared to those at Ginza Bairin, but hey this is no Japanese restaurant and this is no Ginza Bairin. I do know how to compare oranges to oranges and apples to apples. I would say it is good. But I guess the Hawaiian BBQ beef is going to be my favorite food to order here. On a side note, I do not recommend their Ramen with barbecue chicken. I am not comparing it to Japanese ramen, the ramen here is just bland and not too appetizing. Service wise, I love the service last night. The staff really showed what great customer service is about, though one of us said the staff should have gone over and let the cave woman knows that table was meant for us. I disagreed since I am sure the staff did not want to offend any customer especially when there were three of them who acted like thugs or cavemen. So here is a four stars review to Waikikie Hawaiian from me, and three words "Shame on you" from me to the three who truly exuded what low class mannerism is.

Waikikie is a unique place to grab a pretty casual Hawaiian-influenced meal; a lot of the food on the menu is similar to Japanese or Korean barbecue - like teriyaki meats, beef or pork barbecue, katsu, curry, but the roots are really driven from the owner's food experiences in Hawaii, so you'll also be seeing a classic macaroni salad and spam musubi on the menu as well (both are worth trying if it's your first time coming here)! While i don't think the food is out of this world (a lot of the menu options here are things you can cook yourself at home, so probably more of a 3 for me), it's recommendable for the experience and more Hawaii-inspired menu items that you may not be able to find served in restaurants anywhere else in Atlanta. The interior and the friendly atmosphere from the owner/workers makes the place feel really home-y. I've never had a negative experience with too-long waiting times, inconsistent delivery of taste, or bad service, so that's a big plus. Here, you order/pay immediately at the register, grab your own drinks at the fountain along with utensils, and find your own seating (available both indoors and outdoors, for those who want to grab a meal in good weather). On Fridays, they have a musician named Richard (I believe) come in and sing/play while customers eat -- I loved it! The music and sounds were really authentic - makes you feel like you're in Hawaii. Overall, portions are good, prices are reasonable, food is consistent, and service is friendly.

Okai. Portions really small compared to what im use to. I guess polys eat a lot of food though. Haha friendly but no one greeted us at counter for about 4-5 minutes. Quiet. Nice spot to get a little flare of food from the island. Got chicken katsu and kaluha pork.

This place is honestly a hidden gem. We recently moved to a neighborhood nearby and were intrigued by the great prices. Last night was our third meal there and it did not disappoint. Favorite food items are coconut shrimp, katsu chicken, macaroni salad, and spicy teriyaki chicken. Cannot beat the food quality and ambiance for the price. Drink specials were also on point with a $2.50 craft brew of the day.

Pros: Tasty food, reasonable price, comfortable atmosphere, and great service. Spoke and served by the owner. Cons: Wasn't a fan of the large menu board where we order. There is a lot of menu items. The tables could be cleaned better, mine was sticky. I'd recommend take on table service with table side menus. OVERALL: A great place and nice experience.

I don't always need a lot of glitz and glammer with my meal- sometimes a good meal overpowers aesthetics. Such is the case at Waikikie- I love the food, but there is nothing fancy about the presentation. That being said, the atmosphere is truly fun! You walk in and feel like you've landed in a little cafe in Hawaii- complete with island music videos playing. We tried several of the dishes- the fried shrimp, the bbq chicken, bbq beef, the curry, and of course, their delicious macaroni salad! (Who knew macaroni salad could be so good!!!) And all the portions were very generous for the $7. The curry was awesome- good flavor and well cooked. My favorite was the BBQ chicken- so good! I need to go back to try the spam dishes!

My fiancé and I really liked this place. The other reviews don't lie! I ordered some things for us to try for lunch (takeout). My fiancé liked it so much we went back for dinner the same day...and the next day as well! Being a Georgia native, I cannot speak to the authenticity of the "Hawaiian BBQ" or that of the other dishes for that matter. All I know is that everything we have tried was delicious :) The pineapple katsu chicken is really good. We also have tried the sweet potato fries and coconut shrimp, spring rolls and kalua pork. I think the pork was my favorite, but my fiancé loves the pineapple katsu chicken! All considering, it's very reasonably priced. They have lunch specials and mini plates which are on the lower end of the price spectrum, but they also have 'bigger' plates with different sized portions on the higher end, but even at that you can have a nice meal for roughly $10 or maybe less. If you can, snag a seat out on the patio, it's really nice :) We will definitely be going back

Waikikie is one of those restaurants with a great ambience to them. My family and I came there when visiting Atlanta. I fell in love with the place despite how small it was. The mood of the place was absolutely right especially with the live musicians. The food was also to die for. The meals my family got had great, distinct flavors worth coming back for. Definitely a great choice to eat for a casual, laid back atmosphere.

On my own, I would not try this place if my life depended on it. But, I was with a group and they wanted to try it. Shockingly good. Family run place. I have no idea what Hawaiian BBQ is? Spam? WTF? A little fish, a little sushi, stir fry, I was all confused. I had the Spicy Pork Katsu platter and my son had the Terryaki Chicken Platter. Large and tasty portions. We also split the Waikikie Appetizer Platter Special, which was a lot of different appetizers and all super yummy. So this is a small place and family run. The family is friendly and hussleing to keep up, It was slammed on a Saturday for lunch, which is a good sign to me they are doing something right.

We ate the combo special with chicken and beef. Had to order another dish of spam musubi because it was so tasty, warm, and flavorful! We went on a night that they had live music and what a great surprise. I would definitely go back again and again. Thanks Yelpers for the great reviews and recommendations. You all have been so helpful on our travels to new cities : )

After four years as a student at Emory, I passed this restaurant at least five times a week without ever taking one step inside. One year after graduation I finally took that leap inside the restaurant. It was later than usual for dinner, around 8, on a weekday night. The restaurant was empty except for one other couple, so I was a little weary walking in. We walked into the dimly lit restaurant and examined the menu which covered the entire top of the back wall. It was a little overwhelming for me. I had no idea what to choose and seemed a bit lost. It was hard asking the server behind the counter, since he claimed everything I asked about was good. Which of course could most possibly be the case but I wish he could have been more descriptive about it... And more helpful in helping the indecisive choose!!!! I finally ended up choosing one of the combos which came with three different meats, the Waikikie combo. It came with the BBQ short ribs, BBQ chicken, and BBQ beef, while served with the macaroni salad and the stir fried lettuce. Overall it was quite yummy, although the marinades and seasonings seemed to taste pretty similar. Also felt like there wasn't much meat overall... But it's enough for what you pay (8.99 for a combo platter is pretty rare these days) My friends ordered the Loco Moco and the Beef Teriyaki bowl. The Loco Moco was hearty, but I felt like the meat patties were slightly dry and too well done for my taste. The beef teriyaki was in my combo so tasted exactly the same. We ordered the spam musubi as well and slathered them with sriracha. There was way too much rice but I still loved it. Not a fan of spam but for some reason couldn't get enough of the musubi. It's a must order! Overall I would rate Waikikie 3.5, but rounding down to a 3 for the service. I definitely want to come here again (and again.. And again...) sometime to try the rest of the expansive menu, although I fear the danger of it all tasting pretty similar...

This used to be one of my favorite hidden gems in Atlanta but lately it has been going downhill. The last couple of times I've ordered from them, my order has been wrong, which is amazing because they are always on top of things. And the portions! What is going on with the portions?! They give you a tiny bit of green salad, 3 little friend shrimp and a half a scoop of rice. I literally used to be full from the food there but now I can barely taste anything. For what I'm paying, its almost not worth it. Having lived in Hawaii for 5 years, this place remains me of it but the food portions are lacking. They really need to do better.

I was over in the area and decided to use Yelp to give me a different suggestion for lunch. Good idea! I had the lunch special for $6.99 + tax. I chose the barbecue beef and the fried fish. Both were good. The fish was cooked better than it is at most places that specialize in fried fish. The meats came on a plate with a small side salad, a scoop of rice and a scoop of macaroni salad. There was a moca cake that was good as well. Very good value for lunch if you can fight the temptation to add a dessert. I enjoyed my meal and I'll be back.

This place is good if you order the right stuff. I used to come every week for an order of their Spam Musubi. EVERY WEEK! I've also tried the Teriyaki Chicken Musubi, but this dish is meant for Spam. My co-worker and I come for lunch or dinner very often because it's close by and it's good, depending on what you order. For lunch, I order the combo with the two meat options. I like their BBQ Chicken. It is very tender and I drench it in their BBQ sauce, which they make themselves. I've tried their BBQ Chicken, BBQ Beef, Chicken Katsu, BBQ Short Ribs (temporary out), Fried Shrimp, Spicy Pork, Kalua Pork, and their Garlic Shrimp (not on the menu but usually on the "specials" whiteboard when you walk in). My favorites so far is their BBQ Chicken and Spicy Pork. I want to like the Kalua Pork but it is very, very, very salty. If you eat it with a lot of rice and the cabbage then yes it's really good. I love love love their Macaroni Salad. I usually ask to replace one scoop of Rice with the Macaroni Salad. Back when they had the BBQ Short Ribs, the perfect dinner was the Super Combo. It was so good. I would mix a bit of everything in one bite. The short ribs have been off the menu for awhile now. It was my first favorite (before the chicken and spicy pork) but it's been awhile since they've offered it on their menu and I like to try something more than a couple of times before calling it my favorite. If I repeatedly order it and want to keep eating it, then of course it is a favorite. I've also had their onion rings before. It's very good. It's big and very crispy. I've only ordered it once so hopefully it's always like that. They also have live music. Not all the time. It's fun. The owner is a very happy man. I would sit there even after dinner and chat away with him. He poured a lot of care into this restaurant. Honestly, the food is simple but I think I always go back because I like the restaurant overall, not just one thing about it. All in all, this place is a good place to go if you want a good, simple, somewhat balanced (meat, veggies, salad, rice, a little bit of everything) dinner with simple yet good flavors. Also, I've tried almost all their beers. It makes the dinner perfect: Hawaiian BBQ with good beer.

This place is interesting. I can't remember seeing too many Hawaiian BBQ restaurants around. So I've tried them a couple times when I've been in the area. If I had to compare the food, I would probably say it's close to Korean BBQ. Each experience I had here was fine. The food was ok, the service was good, and the prices are decent. But nothing really jumped out at me as amazing. It's a cool little atmosphere with a television and an outdoor patio for days with nice weather. I'd definitely return if I were in the area or suddenly stricken with a craving for Hawaiian BBQ.

Love this place. I usually get the teriyaki chicken special and sometimes share the curry samosas appetizer with my wife. There is always a craft beer special for 2.75. The staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is pretty quaint. Having tried Hawaiian BBQ on a vacation to Honolulu, I must say that our local version is as good as any I had on that trip.

I'm notorious for bookmarking new places to try and then taking months if not years to go try them! But I try to think of it like trying a new restaurant is an adventure and sometimes, the best adventures starts out without any planning. The other day, SO called with lunch plans with friends at "some Hawaiian BBQ place" I IMMEDIATELY asked, Waikikie?? since it is the only Hawaiian BBQ place that I knew of and has been of course, book marked for eons and I always kick myself for never being able to have gone before. That, I think, is called destiny no? hehehe. So, last Sunday, we met up with friends and had a really nice lunch on the patio since the weather is perfect. We decided to go early because a) we were warned that parking is tight and b) I had work in a few hours. Our group decided on an assortment of apps to share including the curry samosas, the spam musubi and the stuffed shrimp. All great, but my fave has to be the curry samosas. Yes, I have to kinda agree with the previous reviewers that the spam musubi seemed to be an uneven ratio of rice to spam, but since we had soo soo much food, I didn't seem to mind too much. I decided on the lunch special of the Kalua pork and the bbq rib which is basically like Korean kalbi. It came with rice, macaroni salad and a side salad. The portions were HUGE for only $7 and the sweet tea was perfect, not diabetic sweet. I really liked the macaroni salad and huge bonus for not being heavy with the mayo! The staff was pretty friendly, this will definitely be a return visit (whenever that is!), I definitely recommend coming before the rush.

Wow. Just wow. Everything was delicious, the service was fast, and the interior was thoughtfully decorated and immaculately clean. My husband and I decided to venture out of our normal comfort zone and give this a try. We got the Kalua Pork, BBQ chicken and beef combo, and steamed pork dumplings. The Kalua Pork can best be described as melt-in-your mouth incredible meat. The beef and chicken did not disappoint either, and the dumplings were absolutely perfect. We will definitely be back, and if you haven't stopped in you are missing out.

I like Waikikie, I definitely have to give it credit for changing my view on spam! Before Waikikie, I wouldn't touch the stuff...now I'm more open to it, especially if it's off their menu; particularly the spam musabi! It's like one giant spam sushi roll. I've also tried the 'spam moco', which is spam covered in gravy, topped with a fried egg, with shredded lettuce at the bottom. It was palatable, borderline enjoyable - but the gravy just evoked a mashed potatoes craving, and I found the lettuce aspect a bit jarring. My favorite dishes are the 'Chicken Katsu' and the 'BBQ Short Rib', both come with a side of white rice and macaroni salad; both solid, the macaroni salad is a bit odd in the mix, but it seems to be a Hawaiian thing. The Chicken Katsu is flavorful and nicely crisped, the BBQ Short Rib is also fairly flavorful and reminiscent of Korean BBQ - just not quite as good as the real thing. I've found for the price you're getting a good deal; service is also quick and efficient. They have a huge menu, so you're bound to find something enjoyable.

I actually really really like this place a lot. Being a native from California I am accustomed to a lot more of these types of Hawaiian bbq restaurants so coming to Georgia I was missing that type of food. I found out about this place b/c of Yelp, so thanks yelp! The food here is tasty and the service is good. The owner seems interested in customer satisfaction. The decor and vibe of this place is quite friendly and feels pretty hawaiian. There is Hawaiian music playing in the background and often a hawaiian video playing as well. Parking is a little tricky but I've found parking in the lot directly adjacent to the restaurant or in the back parking lot. The prices are reasonable and I generally consider this place to be a hidden gem of Georgia and recommend them. I do wish they carried more Hawaiian Sun can drinks and possibly some more Hawaiian snacks and candies or possibly souvenirs like t-shirts, hats, lei's to give it a little more Aloha flair. Definitely a fan, and I can see this place bumping up to 5 stars with a few more visits. shaka!

One of the last bastions of affordable, quality dining. I like to go here between lunch and dinner when it isn't crowded and order the Katsu chicken with a side of fried plaintains. Surely the only people to have made it through the voluminous menu are the owner and his employees. Waikikie BBQ is truly unique, a rare quality in Atlanta, Georgia. Don't waste the opportunity to eat somewhere you won't find anywhere else. It's a great value and doesn't get old. It seems that some people go to Waikikie expecting a four-star restaurant. Alas, Bone's is on Piedmont Road and costs about ten times more per person. It takes a certain kind of fool to order an $8 entree and expect Coq au Vin.

yes, it's true, the owner lived in Hawaii and basically felt that ATL needed to experience some of the aloha, and so Waikikie was born. the extra "e" on the end is because he didn't want it confused with the Waikiki Hawaiian Grill chain of restaurants. thank goodness, because that chain has NOTHING on the awesome of this place. prices are really fair, and the portions are generous. the lunch specials are unbeatable value. food is cooked to order, so it's really fresh and tasty. when you walk in, there's a daily specials menu but the regular menu is also solid. you order at the counter and they bring it to you. expect a lot of solid Hawaiian grinds -- loco moco, all things spam, plate lunch, mac salad, katsu, coconut shrimp, etc. don't miss the fresh fish when it's on special! they have a nice dessert selection too, including the expected shave ice, but also things like green tea cheesecake. my only complaint is that the rice they use isn't the good short-grain Japanese rice, but it's okay. protip: come on a Friday or Saturday after 6pm and enjoy the live music -- Richard & his ohana are from Oahu North Shore and his guitar and lovely voice are a treat! is it the most authentic Hawaiian grinds ever? no, but my friends, you are in Hotlanta, land of peaches and sweet tea, not in SoCal, Seattle, or any other mainland enclave of the islands. enjoy the small piece of delicious and super-friendly awesome that is Waikikie, and if you can, become a regular (it won't take long).

If you like the background themes from Spongebob, Somewhere over the Rainbow, and Hula songs playing in an eternal loop, you are in luck! I have been coming to this fine establishment for several years, and with good reason. Although some items weren't too Hawaiian, the food was very impressive. My favorite items include any of the BBQ plate combos and curry over BBQ chicken. The spam with rice and crab rangoons also make nice additions. Each plate is absolutely delicious and rich, and the portions are very large. If you need more sauce, fear not! There is plenty of BBQ sauce and sriracha to go around. With any of the plates, you can also expect macaroni salad, which is actually one of the best parts of the meal. The Hawaiian beers are also quite delicious. The restaurant itself is not presumptuous. The outside looks Hawaiian enough and the restaurant is on the cozier side. If you're bored, there are puzzles that you can tinker with in the back. You can expect performances on certain days. These performances are pleasant at first but can get a little loud: the total opposite of the calm Hawaiian theme the restaurant tries to portray. As I mentioned earlier, the music could get repetitive, enough to drive someone crazy. Finally, the owner is a character but he will take good care of you. Overall, this is a great restaurant, and I will continue to be a patron.

Cute mom and pop shop. Stepped in one weekend afternoon for a snack, the musubi, Hawaiian spam version of onigiri which is basically rice ball? There happened to be some sort of ukulele club meeting/performance which I really enjoyed while I had my snack. Now parking is limited in a small narrow lot and if you happen to be sitting in your car getting emotional with your bf, the owner will coldly stare you down and make a big show of calling towing or whatever. I appreciate the unique niche market he's found, but the owner/manager whatever man in charge is what I found most notable about this establishment. On our first visit while I was enchanted with the unique Hawaiian snack and live music, he seemed genuinely irked and pissed with life. It was almost...amusing. So anyway, I don't mind his prickly exterior. In fact, I appreciate that he is so territorial and ready to defend the joint and think it gives character to the restaurant. I definitely plan on stopping by for more musubis and possibly try some other menu items. Hi Mr. Grumpy Man! I hope you smile more

Great hidden gem! This is one of my favorite lunch spots in ATL. Try the kahlua pork.

I love this place. The staff is terrific and most of them have been there a good while. What does THAT tell us about the management? Our ukulele club Southeast Ukers meets there on the 1st and 3rd Sunday afternoons of each month from about 2pm until 5:30 or so. The Third Sunday features a Ukulele Open Mic! This is one of only two such events in Atlanta. The Spam Moko is my favorite. Macaroni Salad is amazing. I've eaten my way through the whole menu and there's nothing but goodness there. They have great live music on Friday and Saturday nights, too!

seeing how hard it is to find authentic hawaiian food in atlanta, I would say this is probably the only one. sure there are 2 other restaurants that are considered "hawaiian", but they're more fusion than anything. waikiki is the closest you'll get to the real deal. the interior and exterior looks pretty casual. the only thing missing is some body of water nearby to set the mood 100% :) but seeing how it's located in a pretty run-down area, the mood is killed a bit. but don't let that stop you from enjoying their hawaiian decor. the restaurant is set to a fast-food-style. you come to the register and place your order. you pay, then they'll give you your payment receipt and an itemized receipt. you are to leave the itemized receipt on the table that you choose so you'll be delivered the correct food. you also have the option to dine inside or outside in their patio (with roofing). there was live music when we stopped by for the very first time yesterday. so, I'm not sure of that's just a nightly or weekend thing. I appreciate live music, but the music just didn't fit the atmosphere or the crowd. I didn't recognize any of the songs either. maybe that's why more ppl sat outside.. lol. me & bry ordered the spam musubi, waikiki combo 1, and combo 3. for drinks, we decided to try the hawaiian ginger ale, "boylan". SPAM MUSUBI for those who've never heard of this snack, you are missing out. even if you're not a spam fan, I highly recommend you try it! it's basically grilled, sliced spam w/ teriyaki sauce. it's then wrapped with steamed rice and seaweed. almost looks like a sushi sandwich. sounds weird, but tastes orgasmic! ;) note: 1 order comes with 2 pcs. COMBO 1 consisted of BBQ beef ribs, teriyaki chicken, macaroni salad, and rice. the meats were served on a small bed of steam (or stir-fried?) cabbage. the BBQ beef ribs were tasty. I'm glad it had it's own taste and not too similar to the Korean BBQ flavor. there was also some sliced beef on top as well. that had a slightly sweet and stronger flavor. both were still good. the chicken was nothing too special. I think it comes with all 3 of the combo options. speaking of defaulted items, so does the macaroni salad. yeah, it's a bit random, but I didn't mind it. it wasn't as sweet and creamy as the standard mac salad, which was a plus. COMBO 3 consisted of chicken katsu, teriyaki chicken, macaroni salad, and rice. the meats were served on a small bed of steam (or stir-fried?) cabbage. the katsu (fried panko crusted chicken) was crispy and not oily. thumbs up for that. and it was served with this yellow, sweet and sour sauce. I noticed some yelpers complained about it, but I found it yummy! the sauce was good alone or even with a touch of the teriyaki sauce that comes with every table. BOYLAN GINGER ALE wow! so much better than canadian ginger ale! I'm so glad it's made with cane sugar. the ale was a lot fizzy-er than your typical. I can't think of any other way to describe it, but all that matters was my taste buds were thanking me! front counter/cashier service was friendly and prompt. the lady who came by with our food was friendly and smiley. loved that! additional tips:: - $6 minimum to use a card - closed on mondays - very casual & inexpensive - check frequently for weekly/monthly specials - as of right now, they have a pitcher of beer special fri-sat for only 6.99 - limited parking. there's like 6 spots in the front and maybe 3 in the back? correct me if I'm wrong

I find myself always craving their macaroni salad. Haven't had Hawaiian this good since I was in Vegas. The place is cozy but they get a lot of traffic. That says a lot.

I've only been here three or four times and with eat time I dine here, I am loving it even more! When you enter, you see a list of their daily specials. Parking sucks here! It's about 10 parking spaces (5 in the front and five in the back). I wouldn't try parking in the lots next door because I would think they might tow since they are also limited on parking. There's an outdoor patio with outdoor seating which I frequent all the time. They serve beer here. They do have live performers play music. Make sure you grab your utensils and sauces at the table next to the fountain drinks. The staff is really friendly. So far, I have tried the spam ramen (#34), Waikikie combo (#1), chicken katsu (#8), spam musubi appetizer, loco moco (#18), and seafood plate (#5). - Spam musubi appetizer: this appetizer comes with two spam musubis. One slice of spam and I assume, teriyaki sauce, with sushi rice wrapped with seaweed sushi wrappers. It is a pretty popular menu item so I would suggest that you try it at least once. I promise you will love it! - Waikikie combo (#1): this combo consists of BBQ beef, BBQ short ribs, and BBQ chicken with two scoops of rice and macaroni salad. It's good, but probably not the best thing on their menu. It's a good choice if you would like to try different types of protein on their menu, but I wouldn't order it again. - Chicken katsu (#8): the chicken katsu here is on point. The chicken is breaded Japanese style. This meal comes with two scoops of rice and one scoop of macaroni salad. The chicken is not dry at all. I don't like the sauce that comes with it on the side so I like it with the sauces at the table by the fountain machine. I used a mixture of siracha hot sauce and what I assume is teriyaki sauce. I like it this dish. I would definitely order this again. Probably the best chicken katsu I have had so far. - Loco moco (#18): always wanted to try because of the interesting combination of ingredients. This meal consists of two hamburger patties topped with sunny-side up eggs all smothered with gravy and served with two scoops of rice and one scoop of macaroni salad. Definitely worth trying just to calm your curiosity. I would like to try the spam moco next time. - Seafood plate(#5): honestly, I think the reason why this place gets a five star rating from me. It's really good and I'm surprised because I normally do not like fish plates. This plate is six pieces of fried shrimp and one piece of fried fish. This meal also comes with two scoops of rice and one scoop of macaroni salad. Honestly, I am craving it at the moment and I just had it last night! I think the fried shrimp and fish are breaded like how the chicken katsu is -- Japanese style. So GOOD! Please order this. You will definitely love this. So far, my favorite menu item. - Spam ramen (#34): I wanted to try this because I hear it's pretty popular in Hawaii. I personally love eating ramen and spam together. I think it works well together. Overall, I will dine here more often since it's close to where I am. Delicious!

I have only heard about this place when one of my own loved ones brought me to dine here with him and a couple of other loved ones of mine. After eating here for the first time, I loved and enjoyed the food a lot. So, I have dined here a few more times ever since. The place has not changed at all since I had last dined here. The food here is still extremely delicious and flavorful from when I remember and had last dined here. The interior is clean and well kept. They still even have the same excellent service from when I was last here. Every time I place my order, I never have to wait long for it at all (approximately ten to fifteen minutes at the most). They have a wonderful selection on their own menu. For $3.49 I got their Spam Musubi and for $7.59 I ordered their Barbecue Beef Fried Rice. For $8.99 my loved one ordered their Waikikie Combo that consisted of BBQ beef, BBQ Short Ribs, and BBQ Chicken. He also ordered the Spam Musubi for $3.49 as well. The food here never fails to impress me at all. This place never ever fails to disappoint at all. As the other Yelper has stated, the portion sizes are not huge, but plentiful. The price for the food is pretty good. This restaurant is surprisingly priced pretty affordably. None of the menu items are more than $15. The prices for this restaurant are somewhat similar to that of Chick Fil A or any other fast food joint. I do love how they have shaved ice in a great variety of flavors as well. Although, I have never tried their shaved ice at all...I am sure that I will the next time I come back here at which time I will tell all about it when I write my tip or update for this wonderful establishment. They also have a nice little selection of desserts as well. I highly do recommend eating here. I always have truly awesome and amazing dining experiences whenever I dine here (in the past as well as the present). The service is always excellent here. I will continue to dine here whenever I can and whenever possible or whenever I have craving for this place. This place is just all around excellent.

Not even close to real Hawaiian food. I just came back from HNL, so I know. All the cooks seem to be Chinese. The rice was too watery and soggy, and if I cook something like this at home, I even wouldn't serve it to my family. The katsu was too skinny, barely meat in it like Chinese lemon chicken. And katsu was served on a bed of cabbage!!! This cracks me up already. Katsu curry is originally Japanese food, and they never serve it on cabbage because katsu gets soggy. Loco moco's gravy is probably right out of a store- bought jar. Just poor quality food. At this point, what I think is not only they don't take pride in making hawaiian food, they might even haven't eaten real authentic hawaiian food in Hawaii. I guess instead of making another Chinese restaurant in ATL, if they make a Hawaiian restaurant, probably they would have a niche in business and less competitions. If this is a real hawaiian restaurant, they should have ahi poke and Lomi Lomi as well. I believe all other ppl who gave 5 stars to this joint are probably the owner of the restaurant and their employees to hype this place up. It's no way in the world to give 5 stars if you have normal taste buds.

Waikikie Hawaiian BBQ has been on Briarcliff for at least the 6+ years I've been in Atlanta, yet I've never gone in. No real idea why, it just never crossed my radar to try it, until a couple of weeks ago when a friend was telling me about it. He loved it for lunch when he used to work nearby he said, so I decided it was worth a shot. Any place that has spam on its menu is worth at least a few stars for sheer guts alone. I've been to Hawaii once, when I was a teenager, but I don't remember too much about the cuisine, so I was interested to see how Hawaiian BBQ is different from other BBQ. My boyfriend and I went there on a Sunday afternoon, and I was pleasantly surprised by how large the outside patio upon walking up from the parking lot. The lanai easily takes up half of the full restaurant space and there's equal seating inside in the form of tables and booths. You place your order at the counter in the back then take a number to your table for when your order is brought out. The menu is quite a variety of things with a decidedly Asian influence on everything. There's ramen, katsu-style pork and chicken, teriyaki bowls, tofu, musubi and more rice and noodle bowls lending the Hawaiian feel to the barbecue. I decided to try the lunch special of kalua pork and spicy chicken with a scoop of rice and a scoop of macaroni salad on the side. My boyfriend ordered the Waikikie combo, which consisted of BBQ chicken, BBQ beef and BBQ pork with a scoop of rice and macaroni salad too. While we both really wanted to like the food, neither of us was dazzled by the taste of the food. My chicken was mildly spicy, but a pretty small portion and the kalua pork and cabbage was okay, same for my boyfriend's meats - they all were pretty bland for barbecue. It was fine, but not outstanding. I left full and more educated about Hawaiian cuisine than before, but I don't think I'll be rushing to go back anytime soon.

Spam musubi and beef Hawaiian bbq combo please! The macaroni salad is sooo good, one scoop isn't enough! Great gem in the north Druid hills area.

Great food along with great prices and a nice staff. I started off with the Spam Musubi as it was recommended by the owner. It's served along with a bottle of teriyaki sauce for dipping. Then I had the seafood combo as my entrée. Drizzled it with a little bit of teriyaki on top and it was scrumptious!

Wow! It's not very often that you find great Hawaiian cuisine outside of the islands... happened to find this while browsing through Yelp during a trip to Atlanta. And soooooooo happy I did! The resturant was very clean and had a great vibe. We sat on the cozy little patio. Music playing, tropical plants, friendly service... almost felt like Hawaii had it not been for the lack of trade winds and obnoxious tourists ;) The menu was pretty extensive... but it didn't take me long to decide. Mokoloko and spam musubi! Super excited! Haven't had mokoloko since my last trip to Oahu... The food was perfect! The prices were reasonable... I will certainly return when I'm back in the ATL. The only bad thing this place is that it's not in more locations!

I was born and raised in Hawaii for 12 years so I know authentic Hawaiian food when I come across it & this was NOT it. I was rather disappointed since I've been missing Hawaiian food for a while now. It's so generic, that it's laughable. I got the teriyaki chicken musubi and the beef teriyaki musubi and you can barely taste the teriyaki! When I was eating the chicken teriyaki musubi, halfway through there were a couple bites with just rice--no chicken. I'd understand if that was the case toward the end but this was in the MIDDLE of it! They were so bland... I should've just gotten the spam musubi. My boyfriend didn't even finish his musubis. I did the lunch special deal for me &my boyfriend. $6.99 for two entrees with rice, macaroni, and salad. For my two entrees, I got chicken katsu and spicy pork. The chicken katsu was the worst I've ever had. There were so thin... Barely any chicken. It looked like thin French fries. And where's the chicken katsu sauce? It was tasteless... And due to lack of the chicken, it was a little tough to eat. The spicy pork was okay... Could be spicier. My boyfriend had the Kahlua pork and spicy chicken. I tried out his Kahlua pork and it was decent--not bad so at least there's that. Overall, never coming back to this is very fake "Hawaiian" restaurant. I'll never recommend this place to anyone either. EDIT: I was also disappointed that they didn't have Lau Lau nor Ahi Poke. Two of my favorites! Those dishes are the most Hawaiian you can get (aside from Loco Moco and Spam Musubi) and they didn't have it. :(

I work nearby so I often come for lunch. The lunch combo is very reasonable in terms of price and portion. It offers 2 meats, macaroni salad, rice, and garden salad - all for $6.99. I usually just get the spicy chicken and the kalua pork. The spam masubi is a must try. I tried the spam ramen once and did not like it.

They're a real treat, somewhere I go that is special to me. The food and ambiance make me feel like I'm on a very nice, albeit short vacation. Food is very tasty.

I'm not sure this place truly deserves four stars. It's almost a diner, hole in the wall, counter service, cafe style restaurant. The food was not amazing. The ambiance was a bit too kitschy with Hawaii 5-O table place holders and plastic leis everywhere. However, they have Longboard beer. They have a variety of Asian fusion dishes. They play Hawaiian slack key guitar. They serve Spam in about any dish you could ask for. My dumplings weren't freshly made, but decent none the less. And it's not a Hawaiian themed chain (as far as I know). So, yes, I give it four stars for being everything that your typical corner BBQ place is not. And the spam.

I've heard a lot of good things about this place, and I'm disappointed that it didn't live up to the hype. I found that the massive menu overwhelmed me, and the lack of customer service didn't help the situation. And I could probably remake my meal in my kitchen, a huge no-no for when I go out to eat. My boyfriend and I walked in for a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon and were both really hungry after a morning of packing and donating stuff. When we first walked in, we were bombarded with a Daily Specials board, It was cluttered and hard to read, but the chicken teriyaki caught my eye. I wanted to compare this to the main menu, but it was too small to read from the doorway. We then made our way up to the main counter, on the other side of the dining area, to read the main menu. It took up the whole back wall, no pictures. There was so much to choose from! Because this was my first time here, I knew I'd need some time to look and choose what I wanted. But, I felt so overwhelmed that I went with the chicken teriyaki special (I think it was called a "special" because it came with two spring rolls and an extra scoop of white rice). My boyfriend was running into the same problem and asked the man at the counter for suggestions. Thanks to other Yelpers who post pictures, we now know he's the owner. Sadly, he was of no help. All he recommended was the chicken and beef combo plate, which happened to be the most expensive thing on the menu. He wouldn't convince us either way which meat he preferred, just said they were both good. I also knew he was getting frustrated and wanted boyfriend to decide and pay already because boyfriend was asking a lot of questions about dishes, portion sizes, etc. He had been here once before, but with a regular who picked something out for him; evidently it wasn't memorable that time, either. We also commented on how you can't read the specials board while reading the main menu, and the response we got was, "That's why it's at the front". Um, okay. So I'm supposed to have a photographic memory or binoculars to look at the specials side-by-side with your menu board? Um, okay, I'll remember those next time. So, my boyfriend ended up getting a more reasonably priced mini beef plate (since I got chicken and we sample each other's food anyway), and we sat down. Overall, we were turned off by the owner's lack of passion, and thought his Hawaiian shirt was a misrepresentation of the laid-back attitude we expected. He was probably one of the most rude owners I've met, and appeared to have zero passion about his food, only about making money. The food was just so-so. I've never been to Hawaii, and am not too familiar with what people eat between surfing sessions over there, and I wasn't sure what to expect on my plate. What I found was something Asian inspired that I probably could recreate at home. The teriyaki chicken was about as standard as it gets; same with the pieces of boyfriend's teriyaki steak. It came with two scoops of plain white rice; really, how exciting can that get? The macaroni salad was pretty good, although I bet I could find a recipe for it online if I looked hard enough. And, the spring rolls weren't anything spectacular, either. I could find some frozen ones at the grocery store that would do the trick if I were to make this at home. All in all, I'm not impressed and probably won't be dining here anytime soon. The Hawaiian shirts and DVD on loop weren't enough to bring me back.

The food here is good and affordable! Especially if you get the lunch special - it's around 7 or 8 bucks for 2 kinds of meat and macaroni pasta salad, salad, and rice! It's a lot of food for the price! My favorites are the spicy pork and the chicken katsu. They also have fried plantains which are super delicious! If you're willing to splurge, the garlic shrimp w/ pineapple is delicious as well!

My husband and I traveled to Maui last year and ate at Aloha Mixed Plate several times. Waikikie here in Atlanta is just as delicious as Local Food restaurants in Hawaii! I had the teriyaki plate and my husband had the Waikikie plate. Both of us enjoyed every bite and even bought some macaroni salad for the road. Delicious and affordable!

I love this place and was surprised that I didn't review them earlier. I always must get spam masubi. It comes two per order. It's basically, rice wrapped in seaweed with grilled spam and teriyaki sauce. It's so yummy!!! Today I ordered the lunch special the Chicken Teriyaki. It came with two spring rolls, chicken teriyaki and macaroni salad. If you want spicy, they can make it spicy just for few more extra cents. It was filling. Service is always excellent. Any questions you have Paul, one of the owner will answer them. He's very nice and funny! This is a family run business so it's always a plus. Parking is limited but it was never a problem for me. Park in the back. They have variety of desserts like ice cream and snow cones.

Hmmm... I don't get the fascination about this place. Is it because its food from an island?... I was pretty disappointed with this place. The staff was nice but the food was lacking. I knew musubi was just a simple concept of putting spam on rice but when rice and spam ratio is 10:1, it's like eating a bowl of rice. I don't even remember what I had for entree, which speaks for itself but I just remember it's not somewhere I would go twice.

This place parking is horrible. So sketchy at night. There is maybe 5/6 parking space in the front and more parking in the back. I went in maybe an hour before closing and the guy at the counter seems like he couldn't careless about me. Everything I asked, he point me to the board at the front so I had to Walk back to the front of the place just to see the specials! I mean, common you work there right? Why can't you tell me the specials? Urgh. Whatever. I ordered the spam musabi and the combo that had all the meat on it. My friend got the other meat combo with the gravy on top. The foods was a okay but the meat kind of had a bad smell to it. Like it wasn't fresh and it had been just reheated. The rice scoop was so small! And the macaroni salad was tasteless. The only thing that I like was the spam musabi. My friend's plate with the gravy on top was exactly like mine, so nothing different. Overall, I won't be coming back but glad I went to try to spam musabi. I can probably make it at home. :)

Had this place the first time today. I ordered the super combo plate with two eggs, bow chicken, beef, rice and macaroni salad. Everything on my plate was delicious! The prices cannot be beat here with the quality as well. For the lunch special you can get two meats with macaroni salad and rice for 6.99!! Will be back and if I feel the need for a lower rating then I will update this review. As of right now it definitely deserves 5 stars.

It's not exactly a 5 star restaurant but I give it 5 stars for what it is. A casual place to get good food. I've never had Hawaiian food, so I can't compare it to others. But I do know the food makes me feel at home. I'm Filipino and although this food is not exactly like Filipino food there are some similarities Here's what we ordered: 1. Waikikie Combo, which is BBQ Beef, BBQ Short Ribs, and BBQ Chicken. It comes with Macaroni salad and white rice. I happily ate everything on my plate except the macaroni salad. Of the 3 meats, the BBQ Beef was my favorite, Short ribs 2nd and BBQ chicken is fine. All very tasty and made me want to come back again for it. In fact I did go back a week later by myself to order the BBQ Beef. Delicious the 2nd time too! 2. Spicy Pork - this is what my husband ordered. Strips of pork seasoned in what we felt was a siracha based sauce. Husband approved 3. Now after we finished our 2 entrees, oh I forgot to mention we had steamed pork dumplings as appetizers, guess it wasn't too memorable. We realized we did not order anything with SPAM. It's the big novelty there so we ordered SPAM fried rice after eating what we first ordered. HAHA yes we were greedy that night. And we were VERY HAPPY we did order the SPAM fried rice but kinda embarrassed how we scarfed it down our throats. My husband has a rule that since we've moved to Atlanta, Never go to the same restaurant twice, it's a way to get the chance to try as many restaurants in Atlanta as possible. Well, after Waikkie he is making this place an exception :)

This is good, I was excited to get this stuff here on the East Coast. I was shocked though that for two people I spent $20 for not much food. Strangely, I'm willing to pay it because I can't get it anywhere else at home.

I don't know if this is really Hawaiian... they have the requisite ukeleles and pineapple theme, but still, the food was really good for essentially local fast food. They are cognizant of gluten free requests and can point out what to get if you can't have gluten.
