BEST INDIAN FOOD EVER. We have been here one time for lunch and the buffet was unbelievably great and tonight we thought that we would try their al a cart night time menu. Poonam, the nice lady owner, seated us and suggested that we get the dinner for two that includes a samosa for each, tandori chicken AND shrimp, lamb or chicken masala (mild curry unless otherwise requested), vegetable korma, fresh naan, basmati rice and desserts (oh MY!). The moment that you sit down you get papadams (think of them as tasty Indian chips) and a great cilantro/mint/pepper sauce (think of it as a not too spicy salsa) for a snack. When they offer to bring you more, just say no otherwise you will fill up on them instead of saving room for the other tasty goodies to come. The samosa is an almost greasless fried pyramid of potatoes, peas and spices that is served piping hot with a tamarind sauce (use the rest of the green cilantro sauce, or ask for more if you like a more spicy sauce) and is crazy good. As with the papadams, you will want another but must still save room for dinner. Dinner is served with PIPING hot, fresh out of the tandoor (big, hot ceramic oven that you have to kind of throw the bread onto the side of and take out...by HAND! OUCH!)naan, brushed with garlic butter. The tandoori shrimp and chicken are perfectly cooked and juicy, served on top of still crispy peppers and onions. The lamb curry (we got lamb instead of chicken) is the most tender I've ever had I could have drunk the sauce. Instead I dipped the remainder of my bread in it. It was fantastic. Vegetable dishes here are made of FRESH vegetables and while the sauce is unbelieveably great, you can still taste the veggies (a GOOD thing folks!). The basmati rice that is served with dinner has a wonderful flavor of its own and once the dinner is served with it, it's even better. If you can still eat dessert, the pistacio kulfi (homemade ice cream) and the rice pudding (I don't remember the correct name) are fantastic and that comes from someone who's not too wild about sweets. Now that you have had an overview of our meal, what you cannot quantify is the care with with the food is made. It is impossible to make food this good, served with this care in this beautiful of an atmosphere without having wonderful, kind, creative people behind it. They are here. It is definitely soul food, no matter where you come from. Please, if you have never before had Indian food, come here. If you have had Indian food before and thought it was just ok, come here. If you think you don't like Indian food, by all means COME HERE AND TRY IT - you'll like it! If you already love Indian food, still come here, you'll be as impressed as we were. We love it and cannot wait to go back! Oh yes, and they serve beer and wine also! A nifty bonus!

The food here is amazing and authentic. I recommend the garlic naan and the Tandoori Mixed Grill. The staff here is so kind and respectful. The chef serves high quality food and very generous portions. Very impressed with the cleanliness of the restaurant. I have been here before for brunch on Sunday's and they have a wonderful Indian Sunday brunch. A+

The food is superb! The staff is phenomenonal! The ambiance is perfect. The place is spotless, and I couldn't ask for more. We had a wonderful experience and will gladly come back again and again.

The food is delicious! I've had the lunch buffet the 4 times I've been and there has always been a large variety of dishes as well as a huge crowd! Yum yum!!

Food was good. Paratha was excellent. But not much impressed with vegetable biriyani.

I have tried their carryout, buffet dining and catering services. Their food, restaurant ambience and service are pretty good. Only once I had Biryani that did not taste as good as the other times. And, I think their prices are a little on the higher side. If you are looking for good food and pleasant dining space, you wouldn't be disappointed with Viceroy.

We really enjoy Indian cuisine and go out of our way to try different places when we travel (which we do a lot of). Viceroy really stacks up as a solid, neighborhood Indian place. The food is excellent and the service is prompt and courteous. We have never had a bad meal here. The Vindaloo is especially tasty and highly recommended. The interior is clean and decent in terms of decor. I would say that the knock would be the location - just another storefront in a strip mall. However, this in no way takes away from the great food and service and the place has become a regular haunt of ours. We recommend!

Ok so I went here 3 years ago when I was a newlywed. The staff is nice enough but when we asked about the Halal status of their meat, the owner avoided the topic and never gave us clear confirmation. So we ordered only vegetarian entrees, and I have to say everything was amazing. The veg korma was so good that I still talk about it years later. Their naan was okay. The food is super pricey, even a meal of two cost us quite a lot. The unreasonable price and their shady Halal status made us avoid this place ever since.

This is the best fine dining Indian restaurant in the Perimeter area. If you love Indian food you have to check this place out. Unlike most Indian restaurants, they have a full bar including a top notch wine list. The white table clothes and low lighting make this a great date night venue. They offer delicious, authentic Indian food! I love the Channa Masala!! Go check it out!

You can find Viceroy Royal Indian Dining in the Perimeter Center shopping center anchored by Walmart. Viceroy is along the back edge furthest from Ashford-Dunwoody near Hobby Lobby. This is another restaurant I've frequented for many, many years as it's the closest Indian lunch buffet to my work (Northpark). I'd always thought of Viceroy as fairly mediocre at best, however about two years ago it came under new management (you no longer have the scowling Indian woman at the register) and I must say that the food and service have both vastly improved. The restaurant has a rather nondescript exterior that opens into a short foyer with a giant brass elephant. The interior, while by no means lush, does feature a nice bar (wine and beer only) with small tables and cloth table cloths and napkins. This is a very clean restaurant, a bit on the small-to-medium size for seating so if you want to entertain a large group it's helpful to call ahead. I've come here dozens of times with various visitors from India who have all been very impressed by the quality of the food. The actual buffet line is on the small size with two hot tables and one cold, but don't be fooled by the lack of variety as all the food is very well spiced (if a bit toned down for the typical American) - I find the flavors spot-on and very good. The tables are separated into veg and non-veg which you'll find is a common practice (wouldn't want the non-veg kooties getting on the veggies, right?) The line also has a closed-door oven to keep the tandoori chicken hot, which, if you've ever had tandoori from a foil-covered hotel pan, is a vast improvement. The dishes are usually comprised by some of the more common favorites like tikkas, pakoras and paneers, however you'll occasionally find some gems like the chicken vindaloo or chili chicken. There's usually at least one goat dish and two to three chicken dishes plus the tandoori chicken. It's all quite good and much better than under the old management - I'm not sure if there's a new chef but something has obviously improved. I haven't eaten here for dinner and ordered off the regular menu, however I have catered from Viceroy on a few occasions and they've been very accommodating. Fresh bread (naan) is brought to your table so it's always hot and supple - not like those places where it's chopped up and left to die a slow death on the hot table. Service here is quite exceptional - I'm not sure how they keep on so much staff on hand. Lunch buffet is $12 - quite a deal for all-you-can eat of this quality. This restaurant is a solid 4 stars, possibly slightly more. Namaste! (longer version of this review with photos also posted to my food blog)

This is just another Indian restaurant with the usual Lunch Buffet. The two things that work for this place are: 1. Decor: The place has a modern clean decor 2. Location: Located in a strip-mall on Ashford Dunwoody road which is very active. Besides this, if you are looking for some speciality Indian food then you will be disappointed. Expect the usual "Chicken Tikka Masala" kinda Menu.

What is there not to love about Indian buffets? You don't have to worry about trying to figure out which entrée to order and you can sample a variety of different dishes all at one awesome price! My co-worker John L. has been raving about their buffet here and so one day, Melissa M. and I went there a few weeks ago with John L. and my first impression of this restaurant was so great that I introduced their buffet to my boyfriend who is also a huge fan of Indian food. The restaurant is clean, well maintained. The buffet is also kept super tidy and the food served is always fresh. Their tandoori chicken is displayed in a warming oven in the middle of the buffet line and is always cooked to perfection. The service here is fantastic. They are all courteous and will promptly get you anything you desire. On the weekends, they offer a $12.00 lunch buffet with a mimosa bar which is just a couple of champagne bottles with orange juice available to make your own. After my first visit here, my boyfriend and I have been back a couple of times and each time, it's been completely satisfactory. Food is fresh, consistent. Flavors are on point and you sure won't leave hungry after a couple visits to the buffet line. I look forward to visiting them again and am glad that I was introduced to this restaurant in the first place.

My wife and I have been here for both lunch and dinner. The lunch buffett is awesome with a bit of everything and the warm bread and tandori chicken are fantastic. For dinner their food was awesome and the ambience is fantastic. I can't remember the exact name of the plate I had but it was lamb with a rich and creamy sauce. We loved it. Highly recommended.

Viceroy was a quick dinner choice for my friend and I while driving through Dunwoody one night. Apart from its spacious and neat dining room there was not much to impress. After a long and choppy discussion with staff about whether or not the meat they serve is halal, we decided to order the shrimp biryani and the okra vegetable dish as we couldn't get a clear explanation and some staff although well meaning did not quite have a clear understanding and were apprehensive whether to lie or tell us the truth. The final decision we ended up on was that the goat was halal but we decided to go a head with the shrimp biryani and okra dish. The taste was good, a little on the spicy side and service outside of the little hiccup at the beginning was good also.

I was not too impressed with the food in this place. For Atlanta, this Indian restaurant is below average. Many other local Indian places will give this place a good run for its money. That said, this place's ambience is nice and not a bad place to try if you find yourself in the Dunwoody area.

First of all, let me say this I am not a big fan of Indian cuisine. I went for lunch and it had enough option to try a lot of different thing. The place was very well decorated and seems to be a good places. I notice the "Bottomless mimosa sign" for Sunday brunch. The group I went with seem to like it and ate a lot. They didn't gripe or complain about it. I am still not a fan of Indian cuisine but hey I tried it.

I've had dinner as well as lunch here. Definitely not a fan of buffets in general (at Indian restaurants or otherwise) so I will leave a dinner review here instead... I stopped in after work during the week. 2 other customers were there and the service was very friendly and prompt (not always the case at Indian spots). Perhaps it was the lack of customers but I didn't mind the check ins one bit! Warning: the lunch crowd is insane - not my thang at all. Way too crowded. I got my standard shrimp vindaloo dish (which is what I judge any Indian restaurant on as this is my staple dish). They got it right - spicy and delicious. I still am looking for my go-to Indian resto in the A but this one comes close. Wish is was not in the area it is in - Dunwoody/Perimeter mall just plain sucks for traffic.

Came here for dinner last night with a group of 4 others. I really liked the tandoori chicken appetizer and the red pepper salsa that comes on the side. I enjoyed my paneer tikka masala and garlic naan. Service was friendly, and the atmosphere was nice. I'll be back for the lunch buffet next time I'm in the area.

I came here for a Sunday brunch buffet with a friend. It was excellent. I would recommend it to anyone. I have one sentence for their Sunday brunch... "Bottomless make your own mimosas". Nuff said. The food is very good. Lamb, chicken, lots of veggie options, all for the buffet price. Well seasoned and healthy. Typical brunch buffets are loaded with bacon, sausage, ham, etc. Here you can actually get a good meal that doesn't require you to sleep afterwards. And it's all seasoned perfectly and if you like Indian food it's AWESOME. Bottomless make your own mimosas 'Nuff said

Wow thought I wrote about this place already. You would almost miss Viceroy if you didn't know what you were looking for, make sure to stop in the food here is really good. Walking in you will find white linen tables and a very busy take out area. There is a lunch buffet available and on the weekends will be served with a mimosa if you like. There has always been enough of a selection to keep myself and others happy. Make sure to get there early the buffet is closed promptly at 2:30. Having dinner in, the lighting is turned down and people speak softly bread is brought to the table after you have made your choices. Management will even check on you making sure you are happy. If you are getting to go I have found everything has always been packed carefully with plenty of bread.

I come here mostly for lunch buffet on Friday afternoons with co workers. Although not a great variety of food available for buffet, I think for 10$ lunch buffet it's a fair deal. Mango pudding is my favorite from their lunch buffet. I ate a la carte only once here for dinner. Had ordered okra(bindi masala) fry and butter Panneer masala with naan. Others at the table ordered chicken 65 and chicken biryani. Both the curries were good taste-wise but not quantity wise. Naan was ok. Chicken biryani was plain average and so was chicken 65. All in all, not a fancy place for dinner. But lunch buffet might be worth it once in a while on weekdays. Must warn that it gets crazy crowded during lunch buffets (on Fridays) between 1-2pm.

If you haven't had any luck liking Indian food , you have to try this place. I am so picky with food and I was amazed at how delicious their food is. On weekdays they have a lunch buffet that only cost about 12 with drink. This is the only place I like to Indian . The tiki masala is amazing and their naan bread is to die for . Love love love this place !!

I really need to give these guys some updated love. More than twice since my last review, I've visited Viceroy to find the food to be really good. The folks in the kitchen really know their craft. You'll find many different ways to satisfy an Indian food craving on the buffet. And the service really is just top notch. Once we came to Viceroy for a baby shower. Staff bent over backwards to make our party happy. Even as I might grab lunch there by myself from time to time, there really is attention to service at every level. Don't hesitate to try them out. Holler if you want some company.

Viceroy was the caterer for our wedding. We met with the owner for the initial meeting, and he seemed professional. The food was good during the taste testing (some items better than others). We agreed on certain food items for the appetizers and main course on a written and signed contract. However, on the day of our actual event, they just decided to switch one of our main course items for another. And the catered food did not taste as good. By then, we had already paid our payment in full, so there was nothing we could do. If you are considering them for catering, please shop around for another caterer! Also, there are other Indian restaurants in Atlanta that have better food for lunch and/or dinner. I recommend Madras Chettinaad for lunch buffet or Moksha Kitchen for dinner.

Came here to dinner with my wife, food was good but a little over priced. The server really needs some lessons in Restaurant etiquette, he was hovering around our plates all the time to grab them as soon as we were done !!! While I was packing the left over food in to-go boxes, he had his hand in between to pick up the empty plates, dude it can wait till the customer is done !!! He didn't have patience to wait for us to leave before picking up the signed receipt against the check .

I have been to a few atlanta area indian restaurants..this one is the best by far!the curries are simply amazing and the garlic naan....they give you a large portion..unlike some places noe the same average price.I live around the corner and find myself going here at least 2x a week for takeout.

I have dined at Viceroy a few times and it has been consistently good. the staff is always welcoming and accommodating, they are patient and explain everything on the menu if needed. They are even helpful with giving suggestions. The food is always hot, taste fresh and very flavorful. If something comes out not to your liking they don't hassle you about sending it back, they want their customers to leave happy. It is a great place for families, dates and parties. the naan is really good especially the garlic naan. I personally like the vegetable samosa's. my favorites are tikka masala, chicken vindallo, goat curry and gulab jamun for dessert.

Four words. Ten Dollar Lunch Buffet. I can see myself frequenting this place a lot for lunch, which means I'm in trouble. Because my waistline doesn't need that. I tried: Raita Veggie Pakora Basmati Rice Cabbage Masala Paneer Tikka Masala Chicken Tandoori (bone-in) Butter Chicken Butter Naan Rice Pilav (rice pilaf) Mango Pudding Everything was delicious. I even got a second veggie pakora, but that one wasn't as good because there was too much breading. The cabbage masala was the spiciest thing I got, oddly enough. I guess that is the problem with buffets... nothing is too spicy since they want to cater to everyone. There was a lot of other stuff I didn't try, like goat curry and chicken mekhi. Get here early. Preferably at 11:30, when they open. That way you get first dibs on everything like we did!

"Where there are no learned men, there even the ignorant are esteemed as learned, as where there are no trees, there the lonely palm is esteemed as a tree" Indian Proverb Where there are no other Indian restaurants, the appropriately named Viceroy has been appointed as the "restaurant in chief" in the area. Service is good, the restaurant is well lit and attractive. The food however just doesn't cut it. Surprisingly lacking spice and flavor, the lunch buffet was boring. Ashford Dunwoody NEEDS a great Indian restaurant! "Meh" Gandhi

A co-worker and I regularly go for Indian buffet since we seem to be the only people in each others lives who regularly crave the stuff. Since the office location has moved south, we're used to the fine buffets in Alpharetta. This was not that. The space is beautiful - nicely decorated, white and black, and clean. But the logistics and the food just can't compare my favorite Indian buffets. The buffet is on tables in chaffing dishes along the right side wall. The line forms along the bar in the back, blocking the entrance to the kitchen, such that the servers are constantly excusing themselves as they come through with more food, dirty dishes, naan, and drinks. Including tax, the buffet is $10.70. For that there are some sauces, a few salads, dessert, rice, veggie pakora, red beans in sauce, veggie korma, aloo banan, paneer tikka massala, tandoori chicken (in a little toaster oven), goat curry, butter chicken, lemon rice, and spicy curry. They bring the naan in a basket to your table. It wasn't overly buttery as some previous reviews had mentions. They do keep replenishing the dishes, so the food is fresh and hot. If you work in the area and have limited time, and you're really craving Indian, it'll do, but the buffet is not worth the trip.

Again an overrated Indian restaurant in the Atlanta region. This place was introduced by my office colleague and the place was praised as well. After hearing about the place I asked my friends to try it out. We reached the place when there was still 1 hr left in the lunch buffet. The environment at first looked good and they had some good options in the buffet menu as well. When we settled down and started eating it was a shocker that food tasted bad and it was not warm. I asked for some appetizers and I was told that we are about to close and the chef might have stopped the cooking. Seriously? You have customers sitting in the restaurant and your chef doesn't want to cook food. 30 Mins left into the closing I saw the waiters removing and packing stuff from the Buffy shelf. We were asked to take stuff otherwise it will be removed soon. This is the worst I have seen in any Indian restaurant. I hope they server left overs to the customers as well. Seeing that we had no option but to take some food. Then I saw a family walking into the restaurant and they were welcomed by the waiter. On one hand you are removing stuff from the buffet and on the other you are entertaining more guests. I was furious to see that and wanted to talk to the waiter. The place is a def no from my side. They don't know how to manage and respect there guests. Sorry but my time and money doesn't belong to this place. Also beware before going at the closing hours of the place. You might get a table but there won't be food left.

I work in the perimeter area, and I didn't know this place existed. I'm glad I found it! The food is good, and so is the service. I highly recommend this restaurant if you're looking for good Indian cuisine during lunch.

Very disappointed!!! I had wished there was a Indian place close to my job so I could go there for lunch but hadnt seen any. Finally did a search and found that there was one literally right across the street from my job. The sad thing is that I had passed it numerous times and hadn't known it. Moral of the story: it's easy to miss. Now to the review... I went to their site to see if they had a lunch menu, and indeed they did. I decided to go with the: "TANDOORI LUNCH (LOW CALORIE) 10 Tandoori chicken, fish tikka served with basmati rice and hot bread." (The text above was taken directly from their site) When I was ordering on the phone, the guy was asking if I wanted chicken, lamb or fish. I advised him that the menu says it comes with chicken and fish. He then asked if I wanted shrimp. I told him that the menu says it comes with chicken and fish. He then said "oh ok, I see. You're right, it is chicken and fish" as if he had looked it up on the menu. I picked up my food @ 1pm and there was not ONE customer in the place. I brought my food back to my desk, and instantly became disappointed. I pulled out my food and there was no fish tikka. I guess I should've checked before I left the restaurant (although I wouldnt have had time for them to fix it). Nevertheless, I decided to try the food anyway. The chicken was DRY(check the pics) with no flavor at all. They also gave me 2 shrimp that were dry as well with no flavor. The side dish which I'm not sure what it was, was flavorful. The naan that came with the food also had no flavor at all. There was no degree of heat whatsoever and meat was very bland. When I checked my receipt, it said "Lunch tandoori chicken". I'm assuming that the "Tandoori lunch" is no longer available and my food was the replacement. The fish is the main reason I ordered the dish. I dont see myself coming back here anytime soon...especially during dinner. The prices don't match the experience at all. I would like to hope that they just had a bad day, so I wont say I'm ruling them out, but I will have to have a serious craving for Indian food to go.

This is a solid addition to my lunch rotation in Dunwoody. You would think Dunwoody would have more Indian places considering the large Indian population here. However, I am stuck with this little place if I feel the need for Indian. Viceroy is pleasantly decorated. The people are super friendly, and it's one of the only places in the immediate area where you can have a great lunch served on white tablecloths by people in suits for $10. Given, it's an Indian buffet but the gestures are appreciated. They rotate out some of the items on the lunch buffet, or you can order dishes at about the same price as the buffet. There are vegetarian options, as well as some great chicken, lamb and goat dishes. I would say the dishes are about 50/50, so people on either side of that fence would be happy or if you are an omnivore like myself you can stuff yourself to your heart's content. While it is of questionable Indian origin, Chicken Tikka Masala is almost always my favorite Indian dish. It is delicious here: perfectly creamy and spicy. It's awesome poured over basmati rice with warm naan. Older reviews said the naan was too buttery, but I don't find that to be the case any more. Other favorites are the chicken or goat curry, and of course tandoori chicken. I'm a bit of a carnivore at buffets, but the beans aloo are great with the cool yogurt sauce they have. Parking is pretty easy to find but the lot is shared with Wal-mart so it can be overrun with people from time to time. Overall, I've always enjoyed my meals here and would happily recommend Viceroy if you live or work in Dunwoody. Not sure I would drive too far out of my way but I could be convinced.

I'm not sure about their regular menu but the buffet has been consistently stale here in the 3 chances I've given them. In short, I don't recommend this place. The only positive is that the naans come fresh to the table every time.

I have lived in Atlanta for 25 years now and am Indian so I understand there are Indian restaurants of all caliber, but I can assure you this place is not worth the price. I hear they have a lunch buffet which is relatively affordable, so maybe that's worth checking out. Otherwise, it ends up being $$ per person and trust me, there is so much better in Atlanta. I prefer Cafe Bombay and/or The Palace. The taste is bland, the Naan is not of tandoor taste, and overall the selection is ok. I'm trying to be fair, but there is nothing redeeming about the place. I also feel like the service is ok. Every time I forget how much I dislike this place and get a hankering for Indian in the Dunwoody area, I always come back. I always leave angry for spending WAY too much money on low quality food.

We ordered from the Viceroy off of GoWaiter.com . I'd never used the site before, but I was dog-sitting for a friend and she insisted that dinner was on her... Who was I to argue? Although the take-out took a ridiculous period of time to actually arrive, I think this is likely a product of using a by-proxy service rather than ordering directly from the Viceroy, so this is not factored in. For the record, though, it took about an hour and 45 minutes for the food to actually arrive. I ordered the pakora platter appetizer, garlic naan, and the paneer tikka masala. The naan and pakoras were good, but nothing mind-blowing. The options for spice level on the entrees were mild, medium, spicy, and Indian hot. I have a very high tolerance for spice, so I was very tempted to get Indian hot. I erred on the side of caution, though, and went with spicy. My boyfriend has a slightly lower tolerance for spice, so he went with medium. Wow. Steam was pouring out of my ears, I was raking my feet through the sand like a bull, and I'm pretty sure that my intestines just spontaneously combusted. They do not joke around when they say it's spicy. I loved it, but it was a little tough to eat. My boyfriend was happy with this medium spice level, so I would probably back down to that next time for a little bit more enjoyment. And yet, there's a small part of me that just loved the pain...I can't help but want more. Maybe someday I'll even hazard an attempt at Indian hot. Overall, the entrees are the real strength, they are not shy about spice, and the food is better than some of the other Indian restaurants I've tried in the area. Score one for the Viceroy!

I have been here a few times but only for the buffet for lunch so that is all I will be reviewing. The staff will bring you water and naan bread shortly after you sit down and you can then get up and grab food from the buffet at this point. I only started eating Indian food over the past year and I am a huge fan. This place will have the classics but also a few new dishes that I have never had. I have to say one of my favorites were the onion fritters where they deep fry them and you have your choice of sauces. If you see these when you are there be sure to try them. I promise you will not be disappointed. This is a great place for a group lunch and I assume it is good for dinner but I cant say for sure until I am able to go.

We ordered from gowaiter tonight and lucked out. The food was amazing. It was so hot that it was hard to serve- but thats an amazing thing with delivery! Delicious naan and just the perfect amount of spice. We must try dining in soon as well.

This place was a joke. My husband and I arrived there at 8:00pm on a Saturday night. We were greeted by the sweet smell of incense that permeated through the foyer and was excited to be eating Indian food that was not prepared at home. We decided to indulge in what they considered to be "Fine Dining" and was promptly seated at a table in the middle of the dining room. After two minutes, we were greeted in a half-hearted manner by a member of their wait staff. He served us a plate of what I think was Naan and poured us two glasses of water that was either unfiltered or had cigarette ash that floated to the top of the surface when it was swished around. After 10 minutes of observing the four servers circling the six tables that were seated, I asked the server who gave us dirty water if they had suggestions for what I could eat that was Gluten Free (I have Celiac Disease). The server was completely upset that I asked him about some suggestions and pointed to the menu as if I was illiterate. He asked the owner (a female who was dressed up in traditional Indian clothing) to come by and discuss my request. The owner kindly did that and told me what my dining options were. I was quite happy at that point to begin ordering from their menu of Indian delicasies and thought that it would only be a minute or two before someone would be happy to take our order (it was a Saturday night and there were only six tables there.) Unfortunately - that never happened. My husband and I sat in the middle of the dining room and felt like we were "the invisible guests" for that evening. I decided to turn on my cell phone timer and told my husband that I would time how long it would take for them to talk to us again or even acknowledge our existence. Five minutes went by and our table was not graced by any of the five staff that walked by us at least twenty times. I have never been treated so egregiously in my life. As a business owner myself, and a professional consultant for many restaurants in the Atlanta area - I have always believed in supporting fellow business owners. This experience has led me to conclude that this particular establishment either does not care about their bottom line or they are not educated enough to know how important it is to not just have a business, but to run one as a contribution to the community.

Just had an excellent dinner. Very clean and great location very easy to get to. Great menu, lots of choices. Wait staff was super considerate and committed to my dining experience being positive. A friend referred me to this place and he said the lunch buffet is excellent as well. Go and dine with confidence you won't be disappointed.

We had garlic naan, chicken tikki masala and a vegan eggplant dish. Dishes are made as spicy as you want. All were very good and the service was attentive.

Really cheap style Indian food. No way Indian food tastes like that. I was very disappointed. They really need a lot of improvement. We ordered kadhai chicken and chicken chilli which did not taste like either.

I came for the $10 lunch buffet. I was surprised to see so many South Asians in the restaurant, which for me is always a good sign. The lunch buffet had piles of food, and despite being busy, the staff kept it filled. I had the spinach/veggie mix, veggie pakoras, goat curry, mattar paneer, aloo baingan, and tried a little bit each of the tandoori chicken, chicken makhani, and chicken achari. I ended the meal with some rice pudding. The veggie dishes had good flavor, and heat-wise were mildly spicy. I added a big spoonful of the chili sauce on my next round. The tandoori chicken, normally not something I like too much, had a nice thick layer of spice paste--much better than I had hoped. The butter chicken was disappointing; the sauce was thin and not very flavorful. It seemed dumbed down for the westerners. The achari was also really thin sauced, but better than the butter chicken. The goat curry had great goat flavor, not too many bones, and, when mixed with raita, was the highlight of the meal. The kheer was disappointing. It had no spices! Just rice/milk/sugar. Throw a little cardamom in there, please! For $10, I was happy. I'd definitely go back, but with a bib: I forgot how deliciously messy curry can be!

This restaurant is FANTASTIC! I have never been to an Indian restaurant before so I didn't know what to expect. The food has such depth of flavor that I have never tasted before! The portion sizes are huge and it is incredibly delicious. The service is excellent and the setting is beautiful. I will DEFINITELY be back!

Have been to this place twice in last two years. There is nothing special about this place; average food, average service, average decor, etcetera. Some of my friends don't like this place at all! Not sure what personal reasons do they have!!

I am writing this review as I am eating at this restaurant. First things first good ambience. I ordered chicken pakora, they brought it in 10 mins, obviously it was actually prepared two or three days back just heated them in microwave. Worst pakora. Next comes chicken biryani, hmmm asked for extra spicey, I think they don't know d difference between hot and spice. If some one is going do not order these two. Not at all authentic

We've been dining at The Viceroy for years and have always enjoyed our experience. The restaurant has recently been remodeled with beautiful white upholstered chairs and bright wall colors. The seating is now more modern and flexible to accommodate any size party from an intimate dinner for two to very large groups. We have ordered from both the lunch and dinner menus and the food is consistently fresh-from the crispy veggie samosa appetizers to the mango pudding dessert. Our favorite entree is the chicken tikka masala. Portions are large enough to allow others to sample and the naan is always hot and delicious. Table service is timely and the courses always arrive hot from the kitchen. Willson has been our server many times over the years. He knows what our favorite menu items are, but we still surprise him now and then by trying something different. The staff is very courteous and friendly, making The Viceroy our Indian restaurant of choice in the Atlanta area.

My family regularly visits the Viceroy for the weekend buffet, so this review is largely based on that experience. The Viceroy excels in a few areas: - Good introduction to Indian food for people who are new to the cuisine - Nice variety of dishes for vegetarians and carnivores both - Very friendly service - Great family restaurant for making your kids try new things Some of my favorites are the tikka masala, tandoori chicken, and paneer dishes. As mentioned by others, fresh naan is brought to your table. The mango pudding gets high marks from our three year old. Recently the Viceroy has upgraded their interior. If you haven't been recently, it is a nice update.

I have been many times to Viceroy and found the food excellent...The quantity is very good and alongwith sabji (vegetable) they also give papad, onion/lemon/chilli which makes the entire meal very wholesome...To top it all the owner Yogi is too good...makes us feel at home and excellent customer service...Thanks for everything...I highly recommend this place...

I've only had one other experience with an Indian buffet, and it was not good at all. Needless to say, I was hesitant to try it but my colleagues said it wouldn't be disappointed so I decided to check it out one dismal afternoon when I wanted a pick me and spicy food somehow does the trick.! :) The restaurant is pretty simple, decorated in black and white everything and its one big rectangle. The buffet had all they typical stuff plus some really nice cold salad options. The egg salad being my favorite. It had lots of cilantro. The naan was nice and warm and buttery. It was extremely difficult to have just one piece. Now on to the service: Horrible. No one in this place should work in the service industry. It was ridiculous. I never complain because what is the point really. I am a pretty generous tipper even at a buffet but I ended up just leaving a dollar. Food wise: Pretty good lunch option for ten bucks!

    (3)
  • Angela B.

The food was good, however they are stingy with the naan. It's not on the buffet, so you have to wait for them to bring you a basket. If you want more you have to get someone's attention, (which took a while) then wait for them to finally bring you some more. We got ours shortly before we left. So while the food was good, I absolutely detest having to beg for bread.

I have eaten at The Viceroy twice, both at the lunch buffet. This place is great, especially if you don't want to eat food that is too spicy. Their lunch buffet has a varied selection of chicken, curry, goat, vegetables, etc. I always enjoy the mango pudding. The price is reasonable for the buffet, especially considering the beautiful decor and white tablecloths. I would only go here if you're in the area, but it is still a wonderful restaurant!

Amazing food. Make sure you always order mild. Medium here is bit hotter than what you would expect. I had always taken takeaways the quantity has always been sufficient for 2.(or even more). You also get jeera rice free with curries not need to order it separately.

I find myself returning to Viceroy over and over not because it's great, but because it's the only Indian place near my office. A billion and a half Indians and not one had the foresight to challenge Viceroy? Pleeeease, would some enterprising Punjabi open up in Sandy Springs? You might save me from the self-abuse I endure whenever I eat at Viceroy. Viceroy isn't that bad per se; it's just not that great. And disclaimer: I've only eaten their lunch buffet. But compared to Café Bombay (or even Swapna), their buffet is buffoonery, fewer dishes and not nearly as well executed. OK, OK, buffoonery is too harsh; it's that, like a middle of the road "Chinese" buffet, the selection is uninspired. The greatest hits of standard Indian-American (as opposed to American Indian) cuisine are usually found on the buffet: pokra, saag and a small rotating cast of vegetarian options. (The paneer makhani is pretty good. Often times the pokra has been fried to an inch of its life.) The rest of the buffet contains the meat options including some goat dishes, chicken curry, and the obligatory butter chicken. Both sides are bisected with a small toaster over filled with tandoori chicken. A basket of naan is complementary, but too often its simultaneously gummy and dry. I have no idea how they manage to do that. I tend to leave the naan unmolested during my visits. The service can only be described of as "surly." Oh, the woman who runs the cashier is nice, but the servers? Well, the servers may be unfriendly, but at least they're slow. The space is pretty, all dark woods and tablecloths. In fact, based on the space, I had higher expectations of the food which may explain my disappointment. This doesn't, however, explain why I keep returning. Again, I return because I like Indian food and I haven't found a suitable replacement near m office. It's not completely horrible to the point where it drives me away, but I'm far from enamored of it. If ever a place deserved 2.5 stars, this is it. I'll round up to 3 for cognitive dissonance sake.

I like this place a lot and it's even better that it's down the street from my job. Unfortunately whenever i take my lunch/dinner break, they're closed for lunch. It's alright cos I just go next door to Taki Japanese steakhouse. I like the naan and the wait staff are very nice. One of the guys(forgot his name sorry) is very accomodating. 1st time I went there, I ordered Indian spicy Mutter Paneer, the guys from the Kitchen peeked out to see who it was and he kept asking if I was okay after taking a few bites. LOL This review reminds me that I need to stop by again. Ive only been able to make it to the lunch buffet once. The price is still right for dinner IMO so that shouldn't deter people from going for dinner.

A group of us came here on a Friday night - having heard good things about the place we called ahead to make reservations in case they were busy. When we arrived, they had no record of our reservation, but luckily it wasn't a problem since the restaurant was only about 1/4 - 1/3 full. We sat down, and the waiters were very prompt about getting us water and keeping the glasses full throughout the night. Then things kind of went down-hill...After waiting for an hour and a half for our order, the waiter finally comes to tell us the food will be out shortly. By this point we were all pretty hungry, and miffed that the table next to us (who arrived after we did) had already gotten and FINISHED their food. When the food finally did arrive, I was disappointed by the portion size, and there were dishes missing (We had each ordered one of their meal specials) and some confusion as to what dishes were what. The food quality was good, but my dining experience was subpar. I will add that I enjoyed the mango lassi (I had over an hour to savor it while waiting for my meal), and the lamb curry was tender.

Slightly over $10 for AYCE buffet at lunch. The food is good- not the best I have ever had but certainly not the worst. The nan at the table is most certainly buttery as hell, like Emily R. mentioned, but you can avoid that- ask the server to bring out some less buttery nan. As helpful as the owner was, I don't think this would be a problem. When I mentioned to the owner that I LOVE biriyani, she told me that next time I come in request it and she will bring it out for me no charge other than what I pay for the buffet. How nice is that?? Not sure what it tastes like yet, but I definitely will make a point to go back. I know Anand mentioned "rude waiters that stand around and stare" but basically they stand and check things out until they are needed to remove plates, fill drinks, or bring more bread. Why would you have a problem with that unless you eat like this chick I work with who eats with her mouth gaping open showing everyone exactly what she has in her mouth at any one time? Sorry I have nothing more specific, but I had the typical lunch buffet with the buffet menu changing daily. The best thing about this restaurant is that it is the only Indian joint you will find in the Sandy Springs/Dunwoody area. That isn't something to scoff at.

I just got back from lunch at Viceroy. Like many Indian restaurants, they do a lunch buffet. It was very good. All of the veggies were delicious, all of the chicken dishes were very tasty, the rice was really good, and the naan was good as well. I didn't find any of the dishes overly spicy, but they do provide an additional hot sauce on the buffet if you want to crank up the spiciness a bit. If you live or work in the area, it's definitely a solid spot for lunch.

We'd make it three and a half stars. Not exactly like dining in Delhi, but good food, well prepared and a pleasant atmosphere--at least for dinner. We've never tried the lunch buffet. We ate the Viceroy special, a selection of chicken, lamb and veggie dishes, with soup and dessert, all for $18. A bargain and tasty. The chicken vindallo ($15) was appropriately spicy (we like medium) with yummy chunks of chicken and slightly crunchy potatoes. The mulligatwany soup was spicier and less thick than we anticipated, but we enjoyed it anyway. Kingfisher beer rounded out our dining experience. We'll be back. A couple of notes: the Viceroy isn't easy to find. It's off Ashford-Dunwoody in the Perimeter Village Center past Borders and past the Wal-Mart. It is not well signed. The wait staff is efficient; they kept our water glasses re-filled and handled our take-out box neatly. The serving sizes seem large, so take-home boxes are a good thing. Not the best Indian restaurant in Atlanta, and we're not sure what is, but it's good, reasonably priced, and has our attention now.

Very clean and comfortable, Viceroy is a very service friendly Indian restaurant. The food is northern Indian, so if you prefer a hottet, spicer south Indian cuisine, this is not the best place for you. Food is average and the price is very hefty for an Indian restaurant. While you may not have a great meal, Viceroy is a very convenient place for business and pleasure to fuse for a relaxing experience.

Viceroy is one of our favorite regular restaurants. The wait staff are attentive and the food consistently good. The level of spice is just right. We really like the vegetarian appetizer of pakoras and samosas. Our favorite entrees are rogan josh, chicken sag, dal tarka, and an okra entree. When we go there we often see Indian families also dining there.

I am hooked on the food at Viceroy. I've been going to lunch here once a week for the past year. They have a great all you can eat lunch buffet with a variety of traditional Indian vegetarian and meat dishes to choose from including my favorite which is Curry Goat. What I love is that they bring out baskets of hot fresh baked nan straight from the kitchen to your table, instead of placing it on the buffet station. The service is excellent and the staff is friendly.

I didn't know Tandoori Salmon existed, but it does and it's great! Mmmm kinda charred and spicy. Very good. The Nan was nice as well. The samosa was pretty good but not the best. The chutneys were not so good, xkip those.

I agree with most everything Michelle B. Has to say. I was wondering how I could have missed an Indian restaurant since I've been to at least 20 of them around Atlanta. But now I know why. The best thing about this restaurant is the name. Walking in, I was greeted by a friendly hostess and the decor was decent. But I could tell from across the room the buffet was small, I hoped quality would make up for quantity but I was wrong. Everything was bland and too salty. But mostly bland. It mostly reminded me of bad Mexican food. Yes, the Tandoori chicken comes in a hot dog bun warmer. I guess my first clue should have been that there were more staff than customers during lunch. Did I mention it was bland? Of the 20 or so Indian restaurants I've eaten at, this would rank at the bottom. Yes they made the Nan fresh. But mine was unbuttered. And desert? The Kheer reminded me of rice crispies. No raisins, no almond slivers, no cardamon. Who makes Kheer like that? And the mango pudding had the look and consistency of wall paper paste. Very disappointing. Oh the floor manager was extremely rude to his staff but that's not why I'm giving this two stars.

i went for Lunch today and enjoyed it! The staff was courteous, prompt and polite. The waitstaff was prompt & attentive. I walked in and was seated promptly. I requested unsweet tea & it did not come right away. I overheard one waiter mentioning it to another & I was under the impression they were making a fresh batch. I was pleased. The unsweet tea was impressive. Usually unsweet tea at lunchtime in most restaurants is nothing special and usually the same anywhere you go. At The Viceroy, the unsweet tea had a much richer consistency & was unexpectedly good. I was pleased with the buffet. It was divided into three sections. The first section was a cold section which had a number of freshly made condiments & a variety of ethnic cold salads & sauces. All were delicious & clearly freshly prepared. I enjoyed the salads completely & then went up to the next section of the buffet for my second round. The next section of the buffet started with a tray of awesome basmati rice. Surrounding the basmati rice were several trays different varieties of legume dishes & chicken dishes prepared in various sauces. I "took the hint" and spread the basmati rice on the bottom of a fresh, clean plate I grabbed at the buffet and topped it with some of the chicken and legume dishes. Upon returning to my table my previous plates were cleared, my water glass topped up, my ice tea arrived, and a basked of hot pita-style bread had arrive. (I'm an Indian restaurant newbie -- I think this is called Naan? Not sure). I was happy with the service. The basmati rice was perfect. It was clean, not too moist & not too sticky. It was the perfect accompaniment to the legume & chicken dishes. I then went up for round 3 of the buffet.... The center of the buffet contains Tandoori Chicken. I plated some additional basmati rice on a clean dish & took some Tandoori chicken & then moved on to the third section of the buffet. This section contained a delicious goat meat dish, followed by some different varieties of rice dishes, chicken dishes & the like. (Again I'm an Indian restaurant newbie). These were all Delicious. Upon returning, I once again found my table attended in my absence. A waiter also asked me if I wanted another basket of bread which was unexpected & I felt excellent service considering buffet service. I did go up to the buffet a 4th time as I enjoyed the first trips so much. I took a small sampling of some of my favorite dishes from the first three trips. As I was more than full at this point I asked my waiter for my check. He politely said I could pay at the counter. I wanted to leave a gratuity so I left several dollars in cash on the table & then proceeded to the counter to pay for lunch. I was charged $12.31 complete including my iced tea & tax. While I was paying i noticed one of the waiters who attended to me brought my cash up to the lady who was working the register. The waiter thanked me & he left the cash for her on top of some sort of book near the register. The lady working the register then placed the bills I left for a tip inside of the book with some other register tabs. Again I'm not sure how tipping works in an Indian restaurant as I'm an Indian restaurant newbie. I've never seen this before. I'm guessing they "tip pool" so any tabs that have tips on them from the register or any cash they get for tips gets split up? Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. All in all a great 1st experience & I'd like to go back when I have more time (perhaps for dinner) to order off the full kitchen menu. Despite having a very big lunch, I experienced no "food coma" which can occur for several hours after eating a big meal. A "food coma" after eating a big meal is an indication the food which was consumed was very heavy w/ gloopy sauces, high in sugars & processed fats, etc. No "food coma" from the Viceroy Buffet is another indication the ingredients used are high quality and fresh. This also indicates the food & sauces, etc. were not overly heavy. I left the Viceroy satisfied, not comatose.

I feel a little bad giving this mom and pop restaurant a bad review but I really can't recommend anyone to go here. Indian restaurants are few and far between and this one is tucked by the Walmart in Dunwoody. Went on a Saturday night and the place was completely dead...maybe one or two tables were taken. Usually this would make me run back to my car ...im paranoid about food not being fresh...anyways...I ignored my gut feeling and went in. Service was prompt and the inside is done really nice with tablecloth and linen. Ordered the garlic naan, chicken vindaloo, and lamb curry . The entrees were about $15 bucks a piece. The naan was okay...It was nice and crisp but way too much oil on it. I was disappointed with the vindaloo. The sauce was not as rich as I have had before....almost watery. It was also composed of thigh meat which I thought was rather cheap given the price. I observed the waiters bored out of their mind and service became slow after I ordered. I'm sorry viceroy. Lower your prices and make better food ..the business people in Dunwoody will flock to eat it...

I usually hate giving a restaurant a bad review based on service. I give my rating on food quality and a great meal can usually off set bad service in my eyes. My trip to Viceroy changed the way I review places from now on though. We went on a Friday night with a party of 6. After we all settled in and ordered it took almost 90 minutes for our food to arrive. No apologies, no warning, and from the looks of the restaurant there was no reason for the delay. Parties that arrived after us got their food faster! I've visited places where meals take a long time because of complex dishes or the place is just absolutely packed, but that was a ridiculous wait. By the time the food arrived most of us scarfed it down because we were so hungry. We all ordered typical Indian dishes like butter chicken, tikka masala, saag, and curries. IMO everything tasted the same. The portions were also pretty small considering some of the entrees cost $18 to $25. That all said, the quality was pretty good. The tandoori chicken was well seasoned albeit a bit bland. The naan was also a bit rubbery which is always a bad sign. I might return again because even some of the best places in town have bad nights. I hear that their lunch buffet is ok so that will be my next stop. Viceroy isn't terrible if you're in the area...Dunno if I'd travel for it though...

Viceroy is a great option for lunch or dinner in the Perimeter area if you're looking for something a bit different that isn't a chain. I had dinner here with some co-workers recently who were in town for meetings and weren't keen on any of the regular chain spots near the office. We were early and were the first diners to be seated in the nicely apportioned dining room -- cloth tableclothes and napkins, elegant ambiance, but not too snooty. Service was spot-on with a couple of people always nearby to fill water glasses and check up on us. After a mango lassi, I ordered chicken makhni for my entree with an order of na'an. The makhni gravy was flavorful, but seemed a bit thin. But the dark meat chicken was moist and generous. I found it interesting that my curry sauce tasted pretty much the same as my co-worker's even though she ordered korma. Either I'm clueless and the gravies are supposed to be the same, or they made a mistake. Oh well, tasted good anyway.

Overall, I had a bad experience here. I'm not sure what bothered me more-the server chewing his nails (he had his hand almost entirely in his mouth) while staring out the front window with the rest of the wait staff or the two men having a graphic discussion about Mythbusters and snot at the next table, but that's how my meal started and it went downhill from there. On the good side: the naan was hot and buttery when it arrived to the table (and thankfully it was delivered by a different server than mentioned above), and the melon in the salad bar was ripe. Other than that I can't remember much else favorable. Oh, and the dishes weren't as oily as they've been at other places. The buffet, at first glance, looked pretty good; looks here deceived though. Nothing had any spice. The Chef's Special Vegetable dish looked like it had been recycled. Another dish had a few lumpy things floating in a pan of sauce that tasted like Ragu with cumin in it. (I've never seen potatoes float like that!) The Tandoori chicken was kept in a hot dog bun warmer, so it had a slimy texture. Either they used very small chickens or there were only wings being served. Almost everything else was that orangish color that so many curries have, and it all tasted the same. When I asked for hot sauce, I was brought Thai sambal. Not quite what I had in mind, but the meal needed all the help it could get. The Sunday buffet, which looked exactly like the weekday buffet I saw when I popped in for a glance a few weeks ago, was $2 more. Sunday surcharge? Hmmmm. I'm sorry I drove past other places to give this one a try!

The most important thing which differentiates this restaurant from other Indian restaurants is their excellent service. The Owner/Manager is an Indian Lady who is a major reason this place is so popular and has maintained those levels consistently. Lunch is served as a Buffet and has some excellent meat, vegetarian and sometimes atleast a couple of vegan choices. Dinner is pretty consistent and choices are abundant for Indian food lovers. Ambience, Service, Waiting staff all are a plus and highly recommended.

OK, so I tried the Viceroy recently because of a recommendation from friends of friends. Usually I will go to Swapna for Indian but today we were trying something new. Once I got passed my bias for the "Norm!" treatment I receive at Swapna, I have to admit I really liked Viceroy. The food is terrific. The dishes are not as spicy as at Swapna but I don't know if that is a "regional" difference or a restaurant difference. They do have onion chutney which is spicy and can be eaten with any dish to kick it up a notch. The atmosphere is nicer. It doesn't have the hardcore Indian clientele, but I got passed that once I realized that the samosas had come out. The waiters do have a tendency to stand around and stare, but I have to admit my glass was never empty and I never had to wait for a dish to be removed from the table. Net-Net, if you want Indian and you happen to be in Sandy Springs and want a nicer atmosphere, Viceroy would be an excellent choice.

I can't remember the last time I had Indian food, but I was willing to try so I gave it a go. So I don't really know what Indian food is supposed to taste like; I just know if my taste buds like it. The restaurant was empty around 8 on a Sunday night, but people started coming in soon after. My friend suggested that we share a dish because the portions are big, but we decided to get an appetizer anyway. We started off with the Tandoori assorted appetizer. It was just okay; the meat was a bit dry. The chicken tasted the best. For the main dish, we ordered Vindallo with chicken because I LOVE spicy food. We also got the garlic naan, which was really fresh. I liked Vindallo. Spicier the better! It wasn't too greasy and buttery like most Indian curry as my friend warned. I would come back to get a spicier Vindallo and the garlic naan, but not the tandoori.

There aren't too many indian restaurants up here in Sandy Springs - but Viceroy was much better than we had expected. The food - is actually good. Even their buffet - of course, the buffet line stuff isn't nearly as spicy as one might want it to be, but they have a whole section where you can add the condiments and add the heat if that's what you want. We're in Sandy Springs remember? Still - all of the front staff are direct from India and some of them have the thick accents and broken english to prove it. (Okay, it's not really that broken). The prices are a few more dollars than you're probably used to having to pay for Indian food - but it's generally worth the price. Oh - and they do put generous amounts of butter on their nan, so if that's not for you (it's alright with me) - just ask them not to put the butter on it and you'll get some pretty good stuff.

Three stars is about right for this place. Service is good, food is decent. There is a lunch buffet that is okay, but nothing special. I would say that the food is typically overpriced for what you get. I have had better Indian food. The inside is really great though, looks classy. But my friend said the bathroom is moldy and disgusting. Overall it's a decent place to eat Indian if your around the area, but no reason to go out of your way

It was a decent place for lunch. Little bit on expensive side.

The mister and I were craving Indian the other night, but didn't know of any good places around Sandy Springs, and didn't feel like driving far. Fortunately, we stumbled across Viceroy. Nice, clean, black-and-white interior, linen table cloths, candlelit tables. Perfect for a date night. The menu is fairly extensive, covering a range of Indian cuisines. Plenty of choices for both vegetarians and vegans! I got the vegetable thali, which came with dal, vegetable korma, aloo gobi, saag paneer, a vegetable samosa, and raita... and it was all quite delicious. The naan is fabulous - warm and buttery and light. Oh, and it also came with pistachio kulfi for dessert, which is sorta like ice cream. It had a raspberry sauce drizzled over it, and it was light and refreshing. Mmmm! The servers and the manager were all very nice and attentive, wanting to make sure we enjoyed our meal. In fact, we enjoyed it so much that we went back the very next day for the lunch buffet. Which was equally fabulous with plenty of vegetarian options for yours truly. The gulab jammun was ok, but everything else was more than ok. And the naan basket stayed full! (I really love me some naan, ok?) They have half-price bottles of wine on Sundays, and they have a to-go lunch buffet during the weekday for $7. Too bad I'm downtown during the weekdays.

When you are charging $16 for an entree and $3 for a naan...make sure to deliver a quality product. Crap entree with old pieces of chicken reheated...tikka masala tasted like some spices cooked in a lot of cream. Wouldn't recommend at all!

When we wanted Indian food within walking distance of our hotel, Viceroy was basically the only option, so I was hoping the "Royal Indian Dining" part implied high-quality food. What it actually means, though, is that the dining area is done up like a restaurant twice the price range, so when you walk in there in a T-shirt you feel kinda awkward. The waiters also had a tendency to stand just barely out of range of your table and stare, which was fine if you needed more water but the rest of the time it was just distracting. Maybe this is what they consider "royal" service? The food itself was standard north indian fare: well-cooked meats in semi-spicy sauces, with a generous side of garlic naan and basmati rice. There was nothing "wrong" with the food, but it was a fairly forgettable meal. The basmati rice was overly clumpy, the tikka masala lacked a certain savory aspect, like it was a bit under-seasoned or something, and the naan bread was almost cold when we got it. Considering it's located in the far back of a shopping complex, it's probably only worth it if you can't drive somewhere better.

I was excited when I saw the sign for this place go up next to Hobby Lobby, but it turns out it wasn't warranted. I went today for lunch and tried the buffet and found just about everything to be wanting. The only reason I have given them two stars instead of one is because they did a really nice job on the remodel. It is a fairly striking space done in all white and black with very minimal splashes of color coming from the bud vases on the tables and framed scenes of India done in embroidery with sequins. I started with Indian iced tea, which didn't have any of the spices I normally expect and could easily have been confused with Liptons. Then I ventured over to the buffet, which was spotlessly clean, as was the entire restaurant. It wasn't huge, but there were an ok number of choices including chicken tikka, chicken tikka masala, chicken vindaloo, and a goat dish, as well as aloo gobi, rice, a biryani, and naan bread. There were also a few salads and rice pudding for dessert. I tried the chicken dishes and didn't care for the vindaloo, and was perturbed that neither the tikka nor the tikka masala had any breast meat. The rice dishes were ok, but greasy, and the naan was so buttery I had to wipe my hands off every time I picked it up. I love butter, but that was WAY too much. The aloo gobi was ok, although on the dry side and was about 99% potatoes and only 1% cauliflower. I also tried the vegetable samosa which had a fairly tough pastry exterior, but a decent interior. On my final pass through I decided to sample the rice pudding. Big mistake! They must have used an entire bottle of rosewater. It was kind of like eating a mushy bowl of potpourri, not really that appetizing. I guess the good news is that I was in and out in under 30 minutes leaving time left over to go wander around Hobby Lobby after and still make it back to work on time. The bad news was the buffet was $10, not including my tea, and I didn't actually like one item on it. Oh well, what else is new, I work in a culinary wasteland.

There are better options for good Indian food in Atlanta, but maybe not that many in the Perimeter area. Tikka Masala was ok, Chicken Jalfreze was bland, the bread was good. The service was not great. Overpriced.

A restaurant located in a busy Wal-mart/Hobby Lobby shopping center might not appeal to everyone, but those willing to try it will not be disappointed. If you're a fan of Indian food, as I am, The Viceroy is a real treat! They offer a delicious, large and inexpensive lunch time buffet and can draw a decent crowd and is popular with locals. I personally recommend the lunch buffet on the weekend. The price is exactly the same, but ironically, the crowds are smaller. The Viceroy offers a decent menu with great, traditional Indian fare. I appreciate the large amount of vegetarian options and the multiple spice levels your meal can have on request. I tend to frequent the restaurant more for dinner where I find the restaurant to have a more intimate vibe.

Overall: 2/5 (And I'm being generous here!) Food: 2/5 Value: 2/5 Service: 2/5 Atmosphere: 3/5 This was our first time at this restaurant. Not a choice we would have made, but a group of friends had decided on meeting here. Located in a 'Walmart' mall. Single store front restaurant. If you didn't know it was there, you'd easily miss it. The decor and ambiance is just above average with black and white tones and thankfully, none of those Indian Elephant prints and bells hanging everywhere. The music was the typically Indian Restaurant 'instrumental' Indian film songs. Quite tiresome. Menu: The usual 'Indian' Menu. Nothing 'new' or unusual. I didn't find anything on the menu that I hadn't had or tried before. Run of the mill items. Wine List: Again very limited Beverage/Wine Menu. Half of the 'Imported' beers were not available. We ordered a glass of the Campagnola Chardonnay White Wine only to be told 10mins later that 'we have just put it in the fridge to chill - can we wait for about 15mins or order something else!' We ordered the Palak Pitta for appetizers. The Pitta is actually a Palak filled Naan, sliced into small pizza-esque triangular slices. The Naan was positively undercooked. For my entree' I ordered the Lamb Chops - medium mild. There was more bone than meat. Overcooked and charred bitter around the edges. And there was nothing there to suggest any semblance of spice. My wife ordered a Vegetarian Thali. The Thali comes with a Samosa as an appetizer and a Rice Pudding as dessert. The Samosa came out about 15 mins before the Thali. When the Rice Pudding was served in a small bowl, it was quite unceremoniously plonked on top of the Rice in the Thali. Service: Quite poor for a Saturday night. The serving of the ordered food was disjointed, and all over the place. Drinking water was not topped up without having to call the waiter. For an Indian Restaurant service 'ordinary' Indian food, the food took far too long to be prepared and served. The taste of the spices seem to have been mellowed down to suit the American Palate. This restaurant appears to be quite popular with Americans. I would find it very hard to go to this restaurant again or recommend it to anyone, sadly.

The restaurant posted opening time at 5pm. I arrived at 4:55 and was told they do not open until 5:30. Since I was only trying to purchase a gift certificate I politely asked if I could get one. The man told me he couldn't do it and the woman that could does not get there until 5:30. So I waste an hour at the mall trying to make sure my 45 min drive was not a bust. Only to comeback and the woman is not there and the man asked me to wait another 30 minutes. It's 6pm get it together already and stop feeding me lies. Very disappointed especially after reading reviews i would not send anyone I know there

Big sis and I went to dig on some tandoori chicken and chopatti. Heil yeah. the black and white digs remind me of an old music video recreating alice in wonderland. nice, but kind of tripppy with all the zombie-like wait staff walking around pouring water into people's glasses and delivering steamy naan. for time's sake we opted for the buffet, which was pretty good. they seemed to have the timing down so you weren't ladle dipping into a glazed over, lukewarm pile of green goop. the palak paneer still had some vogor left. that being said, this day i had some sinus issues, so i drenched everything in raw onion and raw chilis, so i'm not the best reporter on the tiny bursts or nuances. my best guesstimate was that the chaana daal was fiery and the agua was a blazin'. we will return once this ice melts...

Just got back from New Zealand where there are loads of Indian Restaurants. A few days back I am trying to find an Indian Rest. nearby. Viceroy was the closest so off I went for lunch. I knew what I wanted, so opted to order off the menu instead of the buffet. After I ordered, the lady told me I was welcome to get anything off the buffet as well. Since I ordered something from the menu, I could help myself to salad or any other items on the buffet. I was quite impressed with that and almost took her up on the offer, but I displayed some self- control. I ordered the chicken korma - was good and large portion but not as spicy as I like. Also ordered the garlic cheese naan. Also, good but not like the ones I have been eating for the past several months. When the came to take my plate, once again I was offered the opportunity to go to the buffet for dessert. I had cleaned my plate, so I was no longer hungry. Not even for dessert. I also noticed that my water glass was never empty. The guy was always there! The food was good, service was excellent! I would go back.

Contrary to many of the Indian reviewers here, I really enjoyed the food here. Perhaps it's because I used a Groupon and didn't feel like I was eating overpriced Indian food. I do agree with the fact that the service wasn't the best, but the hostess was very nice and friendly. We ordered the vegetable combination appetizer, vegetable pakoras and samosas, which were both very good, no complaints there. As our entrees, we got Chicken Tikka Masala and Chicken Makhani, both Indian Hot (which was the perfect spice level for me, being Indian). The CTM was wonderful, and I loved that the chicken was cooked perfectly without being too tender or dry. I wasn't a huge fan of the Chicken Makhani though, well at least the chicken part. The chicken was a bit too tender for me and undercooked, but maybe that's how Chicken Makhani is supposed to be (not really sure...). The CTM however, made up for this, which is why I'm not dropping down to 3 stars. For dessert, we ordered the Rasamalai and the Kheer, both of which were very refreshing and tasty. All in all, I really want to return for the lunch buffet and see if these negative reviewers really have something to complain about. I'll post updates soon!

I enjoyed everything about this restaurant. The service was very good. I was even allowed into the kitchen to speak with the chef. I thanked him for the delicious Korma with the aide of an interpreter. I was then allowed to see how they made my meal and question the spice combinations used in an effort to improve my own recipe. I was very grateful for this unique opportunity and unparalleled access. The price is very reasonable. My meal was: Shrimp Pakora appetizer, Naan & Vegetable Korma entre, Pineapple Sheera (unsolicited and on the house) for dessert. The entire meal was fantastic! Being my first time here, I ordered medium spice and it was exactly how I wanted it. This is the best Korma I have had and I have had it in many restaurants. The location is very convenient. The atmosphere is good. It is in a strip mall as are most restaurants. The atmosphere, while not at all bad, could be better. If it were, the experience would be complete. However, I am not deducting for this utopian view. I can not give any restaurant in a strip mall a five star rating and hence the four. If not for that and the improvements to the atmosphere, it would rate a five. It is really a 4+. Enjoy.

This is probably the best Indian restaurant I have found so far in ATL. I go here often at lunch for the buffet. They have really good chicken mahkni and tikka. They also make this paneer dish that has red and green peppers and black sesame seeds in it that is to die for. The lady at the front is very pleasant and they have really good service. Also, their lunch buffet if you take it out is only like $7.95 or something and they give you a huge carry out dish. It is such a great deal. Dinner is a bit pricey especially since it is pretty much al la carte, but it is good.

I cannot get enough of this place! I've been several times with coworkers at lunch, and we've had the most attentive staff (even for a buffet). My water glass was constantly filled, the nan basket replenished, plates taken away...the service is great! The lunch buffet is also excellent. I love that they have so many vegetarian choices. The only reason they don't get the full five stars is because their buffet doesn't seem to rotate choices. Don't get me wrong, the food is excellent, just wish they'd change it up a bit from time-to-time. It won't be long until we meet again Viceroy!

Went here two weeks ago with a friend who is Indian. We've tried a number of Indian restaurants in the Atlanta area and our favorite, Moksha closed down. I'd never checked out this one even though it is down the street from my house. We went Saturday night and the decor was very nice and upscale. I ordered the sampler and enjoyed everything, particularly the tandoori chicken and the lamb curry. I also had some of my friend's shrimp vindaloo and dahl. Service was also attentive. The owner came over to see how thing were going which I thought was nice. My friend who knows way more about Indian food thought it was delicious. I see a number of people dissing the buffet. I have not tried it but like most restaurants of all cuisines, I am sure they go for quantity over quality with a lunch buffet. Try dinner in order to make a fair comparison.

Just tried this place out tonight 3/20/10, food was good. There Indian soup was a bit to spicy for me, it was a peppery spicy I think and it was a bit on the watery side. All of the dishes ordered were good and enjoyable. We ordered chicken tika, seafood dish, and a lamb dish. Nan bread was good. One of the dishes came with a desert, and we got mago ice cream. Service was fine. We also went kind of on the early side so it was empty at the time. We may go back again..

I've eaten here several times and gotten take-out before, but I've never tried their weekend brunch...until today (served sat and Sun 12-3). It was fabulous! I never want pancakes again for brunch. For $12 u get a full course buffet (better than the weekday buffet), and mimosa included! My fave dishes include saag paneer, goat vindaloo, and mutter paneer. (Make sure they bring u a naan basket too.)
