Tried because of a recommendation but we did not enjoy it at all. They were out of brisket at lunch time so we got a vegetable plate and combo plate with pork and turkey. The Brunswick stew had corn and lima beans and reminded me more of a beef stew. The chili beans were very bland, and the coleslaw was watery and tasteless. The meat was dry and did not taste like it had any smoke and was pre sauced with a ketchup vinegar mix. It typically is NOT a good sign when bbq comes with sauce already on it. Customer service was below average and our drink cups stood empty for a long time. They do advertise their margarita and it was excellent, earning them the second star.

Some of the best bbq in town you will not be disappointed and it's intresting to read all the dollar bills that are stuck on the walls.

Sometimes you gotta go with your gut on things, and let me tell you... our guts were not happy after visiting One Star Ranch. Not only did I not enjoy my food at the restaurant, but by the late afternoon, I was miserably sick. Food poisoning aside, the food was not even mediocre. I split the 3-meat combo platter (sausage, brisket and pork with cole slaw and cornbread) with another person and: - The brisket was chewy and flavorless - The cornbread was dry and awful (I didn't even finish eating it) - The coleslaw was too mayonnaise-y We also ordered fried pickles, which were okay, but the ranch they served it with was just not good either. The place is tiny, dark, and covered with defaced dollar bills. I just have no desire to ever go back. And I do not encourage you to go out of your way to do so, either.

Pretty good place. Nothing too exciting. The BBQ is what to order. Everything is smoked on site. Very low key place and very casual. The sausage is great. Wings are good. My favorite might be the jalapeño cornbread which is not that spicy. Limited beer selection but it's cold and cheap. This place has been around for many years and it isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Right in the heart of buckhead basically at the corner of Irby and Roswell. Free on site parking. Patio is available and is covered.

(a longer version of this review also posted to my food blog, with photos!) One Star Ranch is in Buckhead located on 25 Irby Ave NW, just south of where Roswell Rd dives into Peachtree. I first ate this great BBQ when it was called the Rib Ranch - it's your typical throwback to a time when BBQ was all about the food and good times - this is a no frills restaurant with picnic tables and ice cold beer - no fancy table cloths here. We decided to eat outside under the cover of an awning, and enjoy all the foot traffic (at one point a handful of Belgian soccer fans walked by, sporting bright orange wigs and hooting loudly - the World Cup match was about to start shortly). I've had many of the various types of BBQ offered by One Star, but I basically forced everyone to share a single order of the Beef Rib. If you haven't had this before, it's really One Star's signature dish - it's basically a large "brontosaurus" rib with the ribeye still attached! It's really awesome, and for our group of 7 the perfect amount of food that allowed everyone to have a bite. Accompanying the rib was a side of beans (more like chili beans) and a chunk of cornbread. As a group, we also elected to all drink bottles of Shiner Bock - if you're from Texas you'll understand. This is perhaps Texas' biggest contribution to the world of beer (at least in the US). The interior of the restaurant is what you would expect - dark and covered up with souvenirs from Texas and elsewhere - I especially like the "buck" wall with the stuffed armadillo. Service was excellent with our food and drink coming to us in record time. The rib was out-of-this world - if you go, make sure someone orders it and is willing to share! Parking can be a bit iffy - your best bet is to park on the street in the surrounding blocks

Disappointing -- I asked the waitress to make a recommendation. Brisket plate was boring, smothered in unexciting sauce. The corn bread was dry and overcooked. My friends ordered margaritas and one was ok but the other was poor. Hmm inconsistent drinks on the same order... Yup. Not going back there again.

Smoked meats. Melts in your mouth. Beef brisket sandwich was my favorite. Super impressed with the quality of food and the extremely reasonable pricing. I'll be back.

I went here after a friend insisted that the food was good here. The service was not great but ok. I got a BBQ sandwich, fried okra and tea. Yea, I know, weird combo. The okra was good but I believe the BBQ was frozen then reheated. It just did not have a great taste to it.

Best Beef Ribs I ever tasted... Almost worth the price... the ambiance was less than savory... especially for the location... remodeling should be considered for a place with such great BBQ

The food here has made me nauseous twice & I realized that the more you become a regular the more the staff gets too comfortable & completely forgets that you are still a paying customer. Your customers shouldn't catch staff talking down about customers who simply just don't like the way something was made or the way the waitress reacted to an unsatisfied customer. Would have considered coming to try the food again had the service been been great but bad food & bad attitudes ? No thank you!!

I just had the best Bbq of my life! Hubby and I got half of a chicken and beef ribs, with jalapeño cornbread and chili beans. The ribs melted in my mouth, and some foodgasms were definitely going on. The sauce was spicy and tangy, just perfect! I am glad that we weren't deterred by the few that gave subpar reviews. Our tip was definitely reflective of our appreciation and we will be back!

I can't believe how many times I've been in the Buckhead area and have passed by this restaurant without stopping by for a meal. HUGE MISTAKE. This is by far one of the best barbecue spots in Atlanta. Everything is pretty moderately priced and the service is commendable - even after midnight on a busy Saturday night. Our food came out quickly, the servers were kind, friendly, and extremely helpful. Of course the deal breaker for me was the portions --they were perfect. I shared a medium size plate with my boyfriend and we both were left extremely satisfied. After asking for recommendations, a server led us to try the baby back ribs, jalapeño cornbread, and coleslaw. FANTASTIC. The ribs were tender, well seasoned, meaty, juicy and just perfect. The cornbread was the perfect spicy contrast to the cool slaw. I also tried a piece of the chicken tenders - grilled not fried by the way- and I was blown away. Juicy morsels of deliciousness. I can't wait to go back and try some of the other items on the menu.

One Star Ranch is definitely five stars in my book! The food is fantastic, the employees are awesome, and it's kind of like my Cheers. I've had the baked wings (hot), quesadilla, fried pickles, ribs, and seasoned fries thus far in my recent attempt to become a regular. It turns out that wings don't need to be swimming in sauce to be delicious, and although I feel like Fred Flinstone ordering a plate of ribs, it's well worth it. Honestly everything is amazing, albeit not waistline friendly as bikini season is just around the corner. I almost don't want to share how great this place is because I like being able to go there, grab a seat at the bar, cut up with friends, and be entertained by their bar staff. It's low key, they quickly get to know you by name, and honestly what's not to love. If you're looking for a low key barbeque joint where everyone knows your name, then look no further. One Star Ranch is your one stop shop.

The beef ribs are aaaaaamazing!. $5 strong margaritas. Can't go wrong with that!!! Worth checking this place out! I wasn't too crazy about the beans. The corn bread was ok.

Getting out on a miserable and rainy day was worth the walking in puddles for this food!! I shared the famous beef rib plate with a friend and WOW...it was so good. This is a once in a while treat since I eat healthy...but when I want something that makes eating bad, this place is top on my list! Coleslaw, baked beans, jalapeno cornbread and the beef rib....nomnomnomnom... Looking forward to my next meal here!

Very good brisket, by the plate with 2 sides for $13. I recommend ordering with the bbq sauce on the side, so your meat isn't smothered with the sauce. Bottles of beer are $4.50.

I have eaten here before but never again. After going with my boyfriend one evening to eat, we were seated...everyone was friendly but one event erased that quickly...my boyfriend felt something fall on his hat it turned out to be a roach fell from the ceiling somewhere. When we told one of the employees they looked dumbfounded and shocked. I find I hard to believe that they were unaware of a bug issue... needless to say that our was cancelled.

This used to be the famous Texas State Line joint in the early 80s. They have kept the theme of posting dollars on the walls (instead of neckties) and buckets of beer. Anyway, the food is pretty good. Not the best BBQ, but solid. Try one of the beef ribs next time. Also the onion rings are out of this world. Better than a chain like Shanes, but not as good as your favorite joint.

Happy Independence Day, Yelp Atlanta! =) For an early 4th of July BBQ lunch on a Thursday, my workplace ordered catering from One Star Ranch. They were set up buffet style in an event room in our office building, ready and waiting to serve us. I arrived towards the end of the time that One Star Ranch was serving for, but I was pleasantly surprised to see they still had plenty of food left. They offered pulled pork and beef brisket along with buns to make sandwiches and coleslaw, baked beans, and chili beans. In addition, they had some vegetarian options, but I didn't really pay attention to what they were. After taking a few seconds to decide whether I wanted the pork or beef, I decided on the beef brisket sandwich. An employee asked me what I wanted and put my plate together for me. I'm not usually a fan of pulled pork, but I asked if I could get a little of it on the side so that I could get a taste of it. She put a generous bit of it on my plate. I hate coleslaw, so I politely declined it, but I did want the baked beans and wanted to try some of the chili beans as well. The beef brisket sandwich tasted pretty decent, but I felt that a little more BBQ sauce in it would have made it better. However, the beef was drier than I had expected. The pork was a little more tender but kind of bland without any BBQ sauce. Thankfully, the baked beans were sweet and flavorful, and they were a perfect complement to my beef brisket sandwich and pulled pork. The chili beans were alright but nothing special. In addition to the meal, One Star Ranch served sweet tea and dessert: their homemade brownies. WOW, these brownies were GOOD!!! They were probably the best brownies I have had in quite some time. I highly recommend you leave some room for dessert and try a brownie if you're dining at One Star Ranch! Overall, One Star Ranch gets 3.5 stars for their decent BBQ, friendly employees, and delicious brownies. I really appreciated and enjoyed my meal, but after taking a look at their To Go Menu, I'm not sure if the food is worth the prices they charge. If you're in the area and craving BBQ, it's a good place to check out. However, I wouldn't go out of my way to go there with the plentiful BBQ options in Atlanta. [Review 186 of 366]

What's more American than eating barbeque for the 4th of July? The car kind of steered itself to One Star Ranch, one of my favorite barbeque joints in Atlanta ever since it was known as Rib Ranch. I started out with an ice cold brew. And what goes better with Texas 'cue than a Lone Star beer? This is a no frills place so you won't find any frosty mugs here. Moist towelettes? Forget about it. But, there's a big roll of paper towels on the table to help keep things from getting sticky. I got the pork platter and my buddy got the beef brisket platter. The meat was tender and moist and came with just the right amount of sauce. I know, some barbeque purists cringe at the thought of sauce on meat, but it works for me. The sauce was slightly sweet, just the way I like it. I chose Brunswick stew for one of my sides. It's one of the hallmarks I use for judging a barbeque restaurant and they know how to do it right at One Star. It definitely made an impression on me. And we couldn't get enough of the seasoned fires. Plates and combos run $13-14, sandwiches about half that much. I'm not sure what the right word is to describe One Star - rustic, no frills, grubby. It's not a fancy place and reminds me of fish camps you find along the coast, very casual. The interior décor is unique - dollar bills left by admirers, most with a message, wallpaper almost every inch of the wall and ceiling. Check it out, you'll find some good food.

I absolutely enjoyed our stay here! The place is small but it is definitely a sight when you come inside! There are real one dollar bills taped on every nook and cranny of this place. it is so cool! I think this restaurant has been on tv before, but I cant remember exactly on what show. The food was great! I tried a small plate which was a leg/thigh chicken BBQ with coleslaw at $6.99, Every BBQ joint I go to, I must at least try the slaw or mac, and this place has got to have one of my fave slaw of all time! It was a shame I didn't have more!!! We went on a Sunday, and they had the $2 beer and $4 margaritas. My friend had a margarita and he had a big plate of chicken and ribs with a side of fries and green beans. I didnt get to taste it, but by the looks of his left over- which was none- and the focused and determined look he had after he whispered to the unsuspecting plate "thou shall be conquered," and conquered he did, I am assuming that it was a big plate of greatness. We had a great time. The place itself is quite unique, the food is good, and the service was great. On our way out, we were still taking pics of the place and the guy, who I believe is the owner, if not- possibly a manager (but I am sure he was the owner,) offered to take our pics. He had the biggest smile and so did everyone that worked there. I enjoyed everything here. I cannot wait to bring some folks to enjoy the place like I did.

Jimmy, Cam, (Charlie,) and I have been making a tour of barbecue places for my maternity leave lunches with the boys, it seems. It actually all started at One Star Ranch. OSR is just your average barbecue place for me, with the exception of the fried pickles. Here they're served in spear form, which means a high hot pickle to breading ratio. The breading has good flavor, but it falls off the pickle with the first bite, and consequently, I think these would be better in slice form. The ranch dipping sauce is nothing special, but it does complement the saltiness of the breading well. I got the lunch special of pulled pork sandwich with one side (green beans) for $5.95. Jimmy and Cam each got a plate (meat plus 2 sides) - brisket and pulled pork with fries, brunswick stew, baked beans, and jalapeño cornbread. I wasn't terribly impressed with the pork, as it didn't have much flavor by itself and was on the dry side. Same for the brisket, which didn't taste all that different from the pork. Their sauce is a little on the sweet side for me, and surprisingly thin for what is considered Texas-style barbecue. The cornbread was good, brunswick stew decent, nothing special about the beans, but good crispy fries. All in all, OSR would satisfy a barbecue craving if you're in the area, but it's not enough to make me request it specifically. One very cool thing is that they give you free parking in the pay lot across the street. Just park there, go in and tell them, and they'll give you a pass that you can put on your dash. I really appreciate a business that thinks about stuff like that and makes it easier for their customers to be their customers. #Yelp365 - 38/365

There are very few places that I "must eat at" when I visit another town/city, and I try not to ever become too attached to a place when I don't live there, but One Star Ranch is the exception to this rule. A visit to Atlanta without at least one meal here is just not a complete visit to me. I'm always baffled when I read a not-so-positive review, but then again, every has different tastes, and even the best joints can have an off night once in a while. Not so for me, however. I've yet to have a bad experience here, and if/when I do, the overwhelming amount of good experiences will outweigh any momentary ripples. The food is always incredible, the staff is friendly and fun, the decor is rustic and rugged, and everyone always seems to have a great time here. The joint isn't hard to find, at least at night, as neon beckons when the sun sets. I've read comparisons of the interior to what an actual Texas BBQ shack looks like, and I would say, having not ever been to such a place in the Lone Star state, the description still feels apt. No frills here, folks, but that's okay; they've dedicated their resources to the food instead! Actually, the license plates and dollar bills adorning the walls only add to the charm of the place, in my opinion. I've yet to have a negative staff experience here. Maybe not every visit was met with enthusiasm and exuberance, but the folks are generally happy and effervescent. Well, at the very least, they seem to generally be happy there, which is always a good sign. Okay, so, the food. What my cohorts generally rave the most about are the sides, specifically the jalepeno cornbread and the Brunswick stew, both of which are perennial favorites of mine, as well. Mix the two together and you have something special! That's right; take your cornbread, split it, top it with the stew, and dig in. I don't know if I've invented some new kind of name-worthy dish, but it is fantastic! The BBQ itself never disappoints, and is some of the best I've ever had in my travels. The brisket is usually quite lean, which is hard to find, but not dry or rubbery. The pork is tender, juicy, very flavorful, mouth-watering... I could go on. The sausage has a surprisingly delightful smokey flavor, a nice salty punch (nothing too crazy), though it honestly might be Hillshire Farms, i can't tell! Whatever the brand, they smoke it themselves at least and it is quite delicious. Lastly, the turkey is usually a wonderful alternative to the chicken, and is definitely real turkey meat, not that processed pressed shape stuff. I normally don't get the ribs, but the beef ones are apparently what to get here. Every time I see them ordered, my jaw drops. Think Fred Flintstone dino bone ribs. HUGE! I'm not normally a big rib fan, but I would change that here; I've had the smaller pork ribs and they are quite worth it, as well! Try to find bad food here, I dare you! Well, I mean, not literally... Oh yeah, and start with the fried pickles; not what you'd expect. Lighter than all others, but still crunchy, but also very tangy dill flavor. These are also a must-have when dining here! Overall, the consistent quality and delicious offerings keep me coming back every time I'm in the neighborhood. I envy you Atlantans for living so close to this fun place. See you next time I'm down! (N.B. Make sure you follow the parking instructions, as you will get towed if you don't. Parking is free, but you need a tag for the lot across the street if you park there. Just heed the warnings and you should be fine.)

I went there for the first time last Friday night, 8/23/13, with group of friends. I love beef ribs and have been looking for places that serve them but it is hard to find beef ribs as most places serve pork ribs and I don't eat pork. My cousin told me about this place. My friends are also non-pork eaters and dying for beef ribs as well so we went all excited. The place is a small shack, dark, funky, and very casual. We got a table outside. My husband and I were starving. We ordered beef ribs with sides (you can pick any two sides from list to choose from- coleslaw, corn, baked beans, stew, fries, etc) of jalapeno cornbread and baked beans for $24.99 to share. Boy, I am glad we shared because the ribs were humongous and definitely worth every penny. The ribs were slow cooked for 14 hours and you can taste the love in every bite. We poured BBQ sauce over the ribs and savored every bite- so yummy. The sides were okay- the baked beans were nothing special and did not have any kick to it and the jalapeno cornbread was boring and very dry. The fabulousness of the ribs made up for mediocre side dishes, though it would be nice to see improvement on the cornbread and baked beans. The server was nice and friendly. So this place gets 5/5 rating from me. I will be back. I will try different side dishes next time.

Definitely not a place you'd look twice at, but the bbq is some of the best I've had in Atlanta. The staff is always friendly and the food always good. I don't eat pork, so I became a devoted fan when I learned they have BEEF ribs. I have yet to find any other bbq restaurant who can compete. As an extra bonus, they don't hold back on their margaritas and last I checked they're $5.

I am a Connoisseur of fine barbecue, and One Star without question has the best barbecue chicken and large beef ribs I have have ever eaten. There is not even a close second place. I would have given them five stars, but they keep missing something important. The Buckhead crowd loves to eat healthy, and they ignore having any quality vegetables. They do have boring canned green beans and corn with GMO, but this makes me choose other places to eat. A dream come true would be to have One Star chicken with the greens from The Greater Good and the green beans from Dreamland. French fries don't cut guys if you want repeat customers! Please spend as much time on your sides as you do on your entrees and you will have a masterpiece.

Fried Pickles. Need I say more? These crispy bits of sour heaven are truly life changing. And trust, I am from the dirty and have tasted many a fried pickle in my time. Never have I seen pickle spears deep fried, and these are pure perfection. Well done! Oh yea, and the ribs aren't bad either!

Ordered takeout today as it was recommended by hotel staff. The beef ribs were huge and to die for. They were the best that I have had in many years. Also had the cole slaw and Brunswick stew. The slaw was delicious but did not like the Lima beans in the Brunswick stew. Is definetley worth the ride and the price.

Pretty big letdown. Texas style dive BBQ joint looked like the best kind of place but was very surprised with what we had. The Good: On the side, spicy BBQ sauce was great. Corn on the cob was fine & beef brisket sandwich was ok. The "Meh": Most of our meal; Brunswick Stew was very boring, Combo Plate tasted the same; the division of meats was hard to tell because each different meat (turkey, pork & brisket) was all mixed together under the BBQ sauce. The Bad: CANNED GREEN BEANS...COME ON...also, sausage was basically packaged sausage that ate like kielbasa...BBQ sauce was very mediocre... See some of my previous reviews of a few BBQ joints I've been to in Georgia & one in CT...this place finishes last, for sure...definitely pass on One Star & find another BBQ joint in the area...

My friend and I walked in and immediately felt welcomed at this dive bbq place. The owner was sitting at the bar and treated us like royalty. The bartenders made great drinks. I had a margarita, beef brisket, and fries. I'm not sure what the seasoning was on the fries...but THEY ARE PHENOMENAL!! It seemed like anything on the menu would have been great! We sat at the bar and just chatted with Frank, the owner, and Samantha the bartender the entire time. Good, down to earth people. Apparently the cooks have been working there for 20 years too! I will definitely be coming back, and they cater too!

Called in my order 10 minutes ahead and still waited 10 minutes after I got there. Brisket was pre-sauced, always a bad sign. Make no mistake, the sauce was there to cover up the tasteless meat. Sides were average. There are many better options in Atlanta.

Just a quick note to comment on the wings - YUM! I'd never had wings totally "naked" before but we did the other night and I'm in love. Plain like that, you get the flavor of the meat - and if you want, then add their yummy blue cheese, hot sauce or such dippy-dos! Thumbs up for the corn, too. Oh, I love eating outside and enjoying summer foods done right!

Okay, since Atlanta has grown up in the field of bbq with the addition of CommunityQ, Heirloom and the such, I still have fond cravings for One Star. I have been frequenting this joint for almost 20 years, since it's original inception as Texas State Line. A lot of people don't like the ribs, but I do and on spring or fall days, sitting on the little patio watching all the Chuckheads preen is a gas. Frank the owner is a nice guy and deserves to retire in bbq heaven.

When web designers and software developers create something they spend much time fretting over "Look and feel." Does my web site or application "look right," is it intuitive, does it "feel" comfortable? Does it, in fact, feel familiar? If these things are accomplished, 90% of the design work is accomplished. Now what does this have to do with ribs? Well, One Star Rib definitely has the look and feel of a Texas-style 'cue joint, from it's shack-like trappings to its menu, replete with brisket, beef ribs and sausage. That should be, as I typed above, 90% of the work accomplished. But alas, a restaurant ain't a website and after ordering the food, I hit the culinary equivalent of a 404 Error. Now it pains me to type the rest of this review. Back in the early days of my Atlanta life, I enjoyed the Rib Ranch (One Star's earlier incarnation.) Then again that was when 1) the Rib Ranch was pretty much the only game in town for brisket and 2) I hadn't quite refined my BBQ douchebaggery. In the intervening years, brisket (though still uncommon in GA) has become easier to find and my expanding knowledge of BBQ has only been exceeded by my expanding gut. I ordered the brisket plate with a side of chili beans and brunswick stew. The wife ordered the pork plate. I was worried when my meat arrived covered in sauce. Contrary to how many may feel, that's not a good sign. I picked around the sauce first to try the naked meat. (That's what she said!) Unfortunately, the meat was dry. Dry, dry, dry. As I suspected, the sauce was there not to boost the meat but to hide the dryness. Even worse, I couldn't taste any other seasoning on the meat. No dry rub, no smoke. Now I've had dry brisket at Atlanta's other Texas-style 'cue joint, Fox Bros, but could always forgive them because, not only does that not happen every time, but at least the meat tastes seasoned. I can't say the same here. Normally I'm a big fan of bark, but in this case, it tasted less like the meat version and more like the wood version. Finally, I didn't see much in the way of a smoke ring either. Strangely enough, my wife's pork was fine. It was juicy and, well, porky. I say strange because in most cases, it's easier to dry out pork than it is brisket. I wonder if, in this pig-centric state of ours, I was eating old brisket that had been sitting around long enough to overcook while the pork kept turning over from everyone ordering it? Even if that was the case, I won't excuse a place cruising on their rep for Texas-style 'cue for serving up bad brisket. So then how were the sides? Again, going back to Fox Brothers, when I had dry brisket, at least the sides always held their own. Here? The chili beans were also overcooked and the brunswick stew? The only thing I could liken the aftertaste to was...suntan lotion. Seriously. I tasted a hint of coconut in the brunswick stew. The wife tasted it too. I have no idea what coconut was doing in my stew. The watery part I could overlook, but unless you're Thai, Hawaiian or MaryAnn from Gilligan's Island, you should refrain from putting coconut in any of your stews. Now I have no evidence that there actually was coconut in the brunswick stew other than what my palate told me and that was a palate that had been raped repeatedly by dry brisket. So by all means, I urge you to try it for yourself. Just don't ask me to come join you. I've had enough. One star for the pork. One star for the polite service.

The worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant. The were packed for St, patty's dy, understandable. i totally figured things would be a bit behind . Person walked over that said he didn't even work there and was "just helping out" took our food and drinks order. Took 1 hour to get drinks, two and a half to get food. We ordered fries other reasonable foods, zero drink service or waiting ability. Upon payment, we asked to be comped and the owner walked up and cursed at the entire table saying how awful of patrons we were asking to have meals comped due to lack of service, whatsoever. He trashed everyone at the table, never even talking to any of us. I turned away multiple other prospective patrons walking in thinking the would enjoy their time at one star. I will never return and would enjoy spending time standing outside ruining their day. Owner was drunk beyond belief and deserves zero success in the restaurant biz.Cursing and trying to fight patrons is unacceptable. I hope this place gets bought and everything changes. If I could give zero points I WOULD. NEVER WAStE YOUR TIME ON SUCH AN AWFULLY MANAGED PLACE.

I tried to eat there, but was unsuccessful. I was staying in Buckhead on business for the first time and saw reasonable reviews for this place on Yelp. When I arrived, I was confused by the parking. Yelp says free parking. There's a pay lot to the right and a pay lot across the street. The lot across the street also has a sign that says Free Validated Parking for One Star Ranch. But there was also a sign in the lot instructing me to pay at the machine and leave tag on dash. Confused, I walked toward the restaurant, then back to my car, then to the pay machine and paid $5 assuming that they would reimburse me in the restaurant. This was a Tuesday night and no one else was around. Some guy met me at the door with a parking tag for my dash (meaning he must have seen me wandering around confused). I told him I already paid and he said "Oh, that's too bad." There were 3 people in the place and the guy told me to sit anywhere. Since no one else was there, I picked a nice roomy table. He said something to the waitress, and then told me that I would probably have to move since I picked the biggest table in the restaurant. I said "That makes sense since there's such a big crowd. I'll pick another table at a different restaurant." Drove around randomly and ended up at The Big Ketch. I ate a ton of expensive food and left a gigantic tip.

Had the beef rib. GIANT yummy beef rib. The brisket was kinda dry, not my thing. Also had the brunswick stew which was good. Parking was kinda scary-confusing, but we figured it out ( we went at night). Overall it was a great meal for the price. The beef rib stood out, but the other food was good too.

This place was a nice treat. The ribs were great and it's an interesting looking place. Also they have happy hour Rita's for like $4 which is A OK with me. My friend and I enjoyed the staff and had fun with them. The owner I think is an older gentleman that offered to take our photo in a memorable spot and thanked us for our business. That was quite the extra touch to make me want to come back.

The interior is definitely not fancy, but there is a country home feel to the place. That being said, I don't expect my BBQ places to look or be fancy--- I only expect good BBQ, and I got what I expected today. I ended up at One Star Ranch because two friends had been raving about it so we went on a double date. For appetizers we had onion rings and fried pickles-- both were fried goodness. The onion rings I had today are probably the best I have ever eaten. I'm not a huge onion fan, so I appreciated that the onion rings are thinly sliced. The fried pickles looked that had been cut into quarter slices, so I was in love. Up until today I had only eaten fried pickles in thin slices. Yum! I had the BBQ Beef Brisket plate that came with two sides. I opted for Brunswick Stew and fries. The BBQ Beef Brisket was out of this world. The Brunswick Stew was good-- I honestly feel like it could have been seasoned a little bit more but it was by no means bad. The frees were delicious. Everything was good and tasted fresh. Our server was Jamie, and she was damn good. Our glasses never went below half full. She chatted with us and quite friendly. Jamie is definitely good people. And, they have a clean men's bathroom. Hey... no laughing... this is important! With all of this being said, I wouldn't complete if the BBQ plates were a buck or buck fifty cheaper; however, you do get what you pay for......... You'll get good BBQ at One Star Ranch. I'll definitely go back again.

I used to go to Sonny's BBQ on Cheshire Bridge Road when I had a sudden craving, but alas, they're CLOSED. Yes, closed. I know they're not what many consider "real barbeque," but it worked in a pinch. Anyway... I checked Yelp and discovered One Star Ranch was just a few blocks from my house. As soon as I saw that I hopped in my car and drove up the street. Parking is a little confusing. This restaurant is pretty much a shack in the middle of a parking lot (not their parking lot, though). I hesitated and finally left my car in front of their patio. When I went inside they informed me that their parking lot was actually across the street. Hmm... I got my to-go order (after paying almost $20) and left. It was good, but I don't think it was worth what I paid. Just coleslaw, fries, and chopped pork with a big load of sauce on top. I got a cup of Brunswick stew and it tasted like the poured ketchup on top of a can of corn. I know that sounds harsh, but there's no other way to say it.

Had lunch here today and the food was good, service was even better. There are no frills or fancy here, but the food is good enough that you don't need all of that to enjoy the experience. If you go, remember what parking spot you are in, they keep track (and parking is free).

So far this is the best BBQ I have ever had! The chopped pork plate is great, sauce perfect, fries yumo, and brunswick stew is AWESOME! They seem to get you in and out for lunch which is nice. Will definatly go back!

Hole in the wall BBQ in Buckhead. The beef rib was huge, biggest I've ever seen. Could not finish it. Even so, it was over priced IMHO. Not many customers in the place when I had lunch around 1:15 pm and the service was still very slow.

I ate here with my brother when I visited Atlanta for a few days. He's in love with this place, as he always went here with his friends back when he went to school here. I can definitely see why he came here a lot after eating here on a relaxing Sunday. First, the interior gives off a very cozy and country feel to it; it's not fancy or smooth clean, but it feels like you're at an original bbq restaurant, the kind of place you'd see locals stop by for a drink or a meal here and there. I ordered the famous beef ribs with cole slaw and beans for my sides. All I got to say is DAYUMM the ribs were huge. I couldn't finish everything because it was just so much meat to it. I wasn't used to the heavy BBQ taste to the ribs, but I suppose that's because I haven't been to many real American BBQ eateries. Regardless, it was heavy but very tasty. The cole slaw was nothing special, but the beans went well with the ribs. Had it all with some sweet tea, and it was a fine meal to enjoy on a spring Sunday.

Horrible! Horrible! Horrible! I got the combo plate with chopped pork, sausage, green beans(especially Horrible) and corn bread.... It was heinze bbq sauce, Jimmy Dean sausage, and green beans out of a can warmed in the microwave. Absolutely Disgusting. Please do yourself a favor and dont eat here.

Worst BBQ I've ever had in my life. It was inedible (although I ate some of it because I didn't want to go home hungry and traffic was bad getting to Buckhead so I was mad). I got the half rack baby back ribs plate with corn and brunswick stew as sides. The meat was so dry that you wonder whether they had left it out to roast in the sun as their BBQ technique. Actually, there wasn't even much meat to complain about. The corn was tasteless. The brunswick stew was probably the only semi-edible item on my plate. Boyfriend ordered pulled pork and beef brisket, both of which were apparently also left out to roast in the sun. The BBQ sauce is something you would get out of a bottle from the grocery store. The green beans were definitely from cans. No, the BBQ is not OK, it's not subpar, it's not average, and it's definitely not so so. It's down right terrible. One star for the friendly service.

Pretty good for a dive in Buckhead! I went here yesterday with some people as we bar hopping on St. Patty's day and needed some eats. It was packed because of the holiday so it took a while for our waitress to take our order, as expected. Our waitress was nice and friendly and the manager was wandering around to make sure everything was running smoothly. I got brunswick stew and fries and tasted several bites of a bbq sandwich. I was surprised at how tasty everything was! The stew could use some more veggies other than tomatoes and had a slight taste of margarine but I enjoyed the few pieces of okra and lima beans I got in there. The fries definitely weren't hand cut but they hit the spot. The pork was good as it was still in larger chunks and not too dry. The sauce could use some thinning but overall it was good. I might be back next time I'm looking for some cheap food in the area!

The first thing you have to remember when you get here is do not park in the parking lot located next to the restaurant. There is a sign there saying you'll get booted so do not park there. Instead you have to park across the street where this is also a sign for One Star customers. The only reason I came here are for thier beef ribs BBQ. These things were huge! The meat was so huge they came with their own zip code! I ordered the larger order which has 2 giant beef ribs and came with 2 sides. Honestly the sides were average at best, but the ribs were fantastic! The larger order of ribs came out to about $40 and the smaller order is about $20. Not a great deal, and I wish they would give you more sides or a larger portion of sides, but a restaurant I would eat at maybe once every 3 months.

I actually contemplated suicide while eating this food. There was a point during the meal where I may have actually preferred death to finishing the rest of the food. I ordered the pulled pork, smoked turkey, and beef brisket. The meat was so dry I could have sworn they cooked it with moth balls. Aside from that, there wasn't any distinct flavor to the meat either. They drown it in sauce, which they probably got from 7-11. I got corn on the cob and green beans as my sides. I would bet a large sum of money that the green beans came out of a can. I was going to try the ribs, but there wasn't enough meat on the rib for me to actually bite. The poor girl who served us was very nice, but she only checked on us once. I got up to refill my own damn soda. I actually felt really bad for the people walking into the restaurant after us.

The Service was great. The portions were HUGE. However, the Beef and the Pork Ribs were missing that smoked hickory flavor that I long for at a good BBQ joint. Also, the Barbeque Sauce didn't taste homemade. It tasted like store bought sauce to me.

It's odd, living in Decatur with great BBQ places all around, I get excited to go across town to get some food here. The staff is great, the food is exactly what it should be and even if parking is a little hard, they are very gracious about it.

I went here in the hopes that I could get some beef ribs that even closely replicated what i was used to when I lived in Austin. This wasn't really what I got, the beef rib was crazy expensive and in my opinion not all that great. It was very fatty with not much actual meat on it. I will however say that my dog gives this place 5 stars because she got the bone I brought home from the beef rib. Sadly enough for her I don't think ill be back to One Star.

Yea, so this place kinda sucks. The BBQ is subpar by my standards. I truly have yet to find great BBQ in ATL, and I've been to most of the favorite spots including Fatt Matt's and that place that starts with an S up in Sandy Springs. This dive has some big beef rib that I had. They claimed it was their specialty, and it just wasnt that good. I will not be back. Also, that thing was like $20. I can get so much more for my $$ when I eat BBQ elsewhere. I even like chains like Shanes better. Just my 2 cents.

I went to One Star Ranch with my co-workers at one of their recommendations. Good parking across the street where they validate your parking. Very friendly workers and server. Good casual ambiance, trendy/diveish, but comfortable and likeable. Fried pickles were good, but would have been better sliced in rounds instead of sticks...but still good. I got the pork plate and the pork was excellent. If it is good meat you want, this is the place. The only downside were the sides. The baked beans were not fully cooked, but the sauce was good. My other side was the jalapeno bread which had a good flavor, but was a little dry and could have been a little spicer (with less corn in it). Our server was friendly, but never came back to check on us during the meal. She did come back when we were done to clear the table, provide checks and to go boxes if needed. It was an OK experience. I would skip the sides and focus on the meat. The sides are too pricy ($2.75 for 1 piece of cornbread?). I would go back perhaps at dinner for just some pork and a good Margarita.

Perhaps this isn't a good place to go to on a weekend night. Seating is very limited, if it's cold outside - there are no heat lamps so you'll be shivering as you eat, and service (while the server is nice and easy going) is lacking in terms of actual service, timing, etc. They ran out of BBQ Chicken and Beef Brisket by 8:30PM (not sure how a restaurant can operate under these conditions). The food is ok and unfortunately, the rest of it a mess. This place has a lot of potential and could be amazing - it's too bad it was such an awful experience.

I came here twice - once a few months back and once again last Sunday. First time around, I had the pulled pork and some other side items that I don't recall. It wasn't really memorable at the time, although we did get good service and seeing all those dollar bills stapled is pretty neat . (I wonder if people try to pull them out and steal them - are they still good?) Anyway, I didn't get around to reviewing the place after that. Then this last Sunday, I had some craving for protein for lunch, so I was about to head over to Shane's. Then I remember this place and decided to head over there instead. Getting the menu, I noticed that their specialty is rib, so I ordered that, along with some onion rings, baked beans and cold-slaw. The order of onions was pretty big, even though I ordered the regular size. A tad bit salty, but it was tasty. Then the RIB arrived - this giant bone with a slab of meat attached to it. it. Was. Pretty. Frickin'. Big. And quite moist - no dryness there. I couldn't both of them. I ended up taking them home and had them for dinner. I think this one is a keeper, as long as you order their specialties and not anything else (although I'll try those out in the future).

If this is best Atlanta has to offer for BBQ I feel sorry for you. It sucked. The brisket was tough and flavorless, the turkey while moist had no smoke flavor. Very disappointed. The one star ( no pun intended was the deep fried pickles, bry good.

Only had ribs, they are good. Slaw is homemade. Onion rings are good, just need a horseradish sauce and they would be better. Portion size is true southern! Pack a doggy bag, I'm stuffed. Will be back to try out pulled pork and brisket. Great beef ribs with dry rub!

We like it! I'd eaten here about 5 years ago and enjoyed it just as much back then--nothing had changed. I hate feeling like I have to justify myself for writing a good review of a place that others feel mediocre about, but here goes. (1) I've never been to Texas so I've never had real Texas bbq and can't be all snooty about comparing to the "real thing". (2) I am not picky. If you put food in front of me I'm typically going to enjoy it unless something is blatantly wrong with it. I got the pork plate with a side of jalapeno cornbread and brunswick stew. All were mouthwatering. Sauce was excellent. I loved the fact that there were lima beans and okra in the brunswick stew--it could have been a standalone meal. Hubby got the beef ribs which are phenominal here. Tons of fall-off-the-bone beef with good flavor. His sides were fries and cold slaw. Both great. We left content and full and then ate the leftovers later that night for a midnight snack. Everything held up well for the second heating. We left wondering why it had been 5 years since we'd last eaten there, and vowed to make it one of our "splurge" places.

Yesterday, I was watching a show on Atlanta BBQ Restaurants on PBS. I decided to make a mental note on the restaurants that featured good BBQ Beef Ribs. I'm not really a fan of pork. I noticed everyone was talking about the size of the beef ribs from One Star Ranch. I never expected to get a rib that The Flinstones and Rubbles could have shared. The beef ribs were very delicious indeed. I really enjoyed the hot bbq sauce that they served on the side. It has a smoky sweet taste. My 2 sides were the Jalapeno Cornbread-very good and fries which have great seasoning and taste great with the sauce. While seated, you listen to great Blues music. I will have to come back for the live music. The staff is nice and I also met the owner on the way out. He checks on the customers and makes sure they are happy. Park in the lot across the street and you will get validated on the way out of the restaurant.

Lone Star State BBQ --I think not. This is more like Georgia blue plate BBQ, and that is what it reminded me of. The food comes strait from freezer and can to table, almost similar to cafeteria quality. They even serve the platters on three compartment plastic jail house plates. I got the beef brisket platter and it was decently flavored with a jug sauce. My girlfriend got the pulled pork and (normally quiet demeanor) was pissed off enough to say it was the worst BBQ she has had. Sorry, Georgians this is not even a close example of Texas BBQ, and from my experience in Texas they would never have survived this long over there.Go to hardeightbbq.com to get a sense of how much pride this state has in its meat consumption.

I'm real partial to my Dad's home cooked Bar B Que so not too many places can compare. But One Star is worth the stop. I had the pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw. My guest had the pork ribs (tender but need extra sauce), fries (tasty) and the Brunswick Stew (the best side ever!!!). Brunswick stew is a meal in itself: stewed tomatoes, corn, bits of ham(?) and okra....yummy!!!!!! Atmosphere is real rugged and laid back. Bring the family or a bunch of friends. We went around late dinner time and the restaurant wasn't packed so it was unfortunate that our waitress, though friendly, was not very attentive. Brownies are an excellent choice for dessert yet get the full size....half size brownie is for babies! Good ol fashion, down home experience. Worth the stop and will stop again.

You MUST go check this place out! The food is PHENOMENAL!! My employees and I get food from there ALL of the time and it is has ALWAYS been AMAZING! We have met the owner on several occasions and he has always treated us as if we have been going there for 15 years. We always feel so welcome and as if we are family. If you have never been there definitely go and check it out!

I have only been to this location one time. I was meeting someone from downtown and this was at a good midway point. I've been to the One Star Ranch in Alpharetta a number of times but not for a while now. I was looking forward to having the good n' greasy onion strings I remembered. But here they were dry and "burned"? But the BBQ sandwich was as good as I remember although the sauce was not as spicy but still nice and thick which is the way i like it. Service was good. The place was pretty quiet so they waitress had no problem keeping up with us. They have a very basic bar there, not a whole lot of variety, but this IS just a BBQ place lol

I recently moved to Atlanta from DC and have been looking for a spot to call my new go-to BBQ restaurant. Luckily after much trial and error, I located my new place right around the corner from where I live. Service was quick and friendly. I had the chicken and rib combo (large). The chicken had an incredible grilled crust on it and the ribs were the perfect amount of juicy that required just the right amount of pull to get them off the bone.

The green beans were bland, the corn was bland and the "smoked turkey breast" tasted boiled with a good bbq sauce sorry...

The four stars are for those tender, juicy, enormous beef ribs and the greasylicious onion rings recommended by other Yelp reviewers. Everything else - chicken, sides, atmosphere - was 3 stars at best, although we did go on a night without the live blues and where certain items (like the fried pickles) had run out. But the cheerful service and scrumptious ribs certainly made up for it!

My wife & I stopped by here for lunch this past Saturday afternoon. I had heard so much about this place so I figured I'd give it a try. Now I know where they got the name. That's all it deserves. We started with a bowl of chili to share for an appetizer. Nothing to write home about. $7.00 for about 6-8oz of chili is ridiculous! It was meaty but not worth the price. Longhorn & Wendy's both have better chili IMO. Then we ordered two 2 meat combo plates. One for me and one for my wife. I had pulled pork & brisket with corn on the cob & baked beans as my sides. The meat was tasty with plenty of sauce. The beans were "ok" but the corn was tasteless and soggy. My wife had the sausage & pork combo with jalapeno corn bread & Brunswick stew as her sides. Another thing that's not hard to screw up but this left something to be desired. Kielbasa with barbecue sauce. As for the decor, makes me think that Patrick Swayze was going to come out and bust up a knife fight at any moment (Roadhouse style). The restroom was clean and useable. Hate to see it on a Saturday night. All in all I wouldn't suggest going to this place. Over rated & over priced. Next time I'll drive a little further and go to Fatt Matt's.

So, I was totally craving barbecue, and didn't feel like the normal drive to my favorite place, Community Q. So, I decided to try this out since it is in my neighborhood. I don't mind that it looks like a dive, that's common for a BBQ place. I got a brisket sandwich, baked beans, and chili. I asked for a side of sauce, and i"m glad I did. I never met a brisket I didn't like - until tonight. It was ropy, super dry, and more like beef jerky than barbeque. Had to douse it in their so-so sauce to make it edible. Needless to say, didn't even finish it. The baked beans were mediocre, and tasted mostly like ketchup. It also had some weird, pudding like texture. The chili was more dry chunks of brisket (I guess it takes skill to dry brisket out like this) in this one note sauce. It was super spicy, but only one note, not any depth of flavor or heat. Maybe I just got the last of the junk because it was late, but I probably won't ever find out. No leftovers, because they all went in the trash. Guess I should continue to make the drive to Community Q, because I learned my lesson tonight.

Meat smoked to perfection, exquisitely balanced tangy sauce, great blues and friendly service make this a natural for five stars. Onion rings (certainly not for the diet conscious) are a great compliment to any meal and surpass any I've eaten in the comfort food class. Down home food and service in the heart of Buckhead. Skip the oversalted, insipid canned green beans, though.

I am from Texas and I love Texas style barbecue. This was not what this was. I can overlook Georgians trying to make Texas style barbecue because I like other types of barbecue as well (Memphis, KC etc) but this was overall not good at all. The brisket was very fatty. Fatty to the point where it was inedible. The corn on the cob they served was mushy. No one at my table (6 people) enjoyed their food. The complaints centered mostly around the quality of the meat even though the people I was with ordered different types (beef, pork, turkey). Overall, it sucked. I'd give this place negative stars if I could.

Decent bbq, lackluster sides This barbeque spot has been a staple for the Buckhead area for a while. It's located near the E.Andrews party section. It's adjacent from the old Rio Bravo restuarant which surprisngly hasn't been transformed into anything else. It's a prime location in the neighborhood...Back to the spot. One Star is in a standalone building and it's a basic hole-in-the-wall. I suppose it's designed as a ranch house for that particular purpose. Upon entering, you will notice many dollar bills stapled to the walls, plus license plates. The dining area has either wooden tables and chairs plus a couple of make-shift picnic tables. The bar area is small yet cozy with your standard fare of beer, wine and mixed concoctions. The iced teas and waters always arrive in a huge cup, which is a good thing. I had the wings and I am not sure if they were buffalo or just fried. I venture to say they are fried. So at best it was just that - average. The menu doesn't include a bbq chicken sandwich which is a bit of an oddity. Their bbq turkey sandwich is turkey breast meat with bbq sauce poured on it. It's not quite the bbq I was expecting. Their specialty is the single beef rib. The rib is large for the size and the taste is close to a prime rib but smoked; depending on the type of rib you get can be hit or miss. Sometimes it can be more fatty than others. But needless to say, it's full of flavor, rich and filling. If you are lucky to get a decent rib, you won't be disappointed. The bbq 1/2 chicken isn't bad either. It has a tender texture with a decent bbq flavor. It's not too overbearing or slight. All in all, it's a decent platter. What they could really use is a bbq chicken sandwich. I have never been to a bbq joint where it isn't offered. They could do themselves a favor and offer one and it would be popular item. Also, their sides are of lackluster quality. I have never eaten a side which complements the main meat dish. The fries are your garden variety frozen, which in fact is their best side. Everything after that is down hill. The canned green beans, Brunswick stew, pork n beans, corn and cornbread shouldn't even be offered in its current form. They could do themselves a service if they could create a side or two which is fresh or a specialize in something. My suggestion would be to have several sides which are freshly made. The reason I give this place a 3 stars is because of its friendly service and beef rib which is their specialty. They could do several things which would make this place stand out above others.

Yes, five stars! They have BRISKET! I'm from the Midwest y'all, i eat beef! Nothing against pork BBQ, but give me some cow and I'm happy as a clam! There are only two things that could make this place better 1)smoked bologna and 2)pickles, bring me pickles with my BBQ!

I am a born and raised Texan. We are dorkily proud of our heritage. And we like our food, our way. One Star is Texas style barbecue, which is not super common in Georgia. Not being a barbecue connoisseur, I'm not sure the differences between various regions' bbqs...TX just tastes Right. I always get the pulled pork sandwich. Awesome. My non-pork lovin' friends get the beef ribs. I was not a huge fan but I doubt I'd like that anywhere. We also always get the tub of shoestring onion rings. They are ridiculously salty and greasy and delicious. Best onion rings I've ever had. Good beer prices with the "bucket of beer" special. Trust me though, the portions are so large here that you want to fit as much real food, not alcoholic beverage, in as possible. Have never had to wait for a table. Free parking even though it's smack dab in Buckhead. Right on.

Hmmm. Im sad to see all the poor reviews of good ol' One Star. Well One Star...this city cowgirl loves ya. Promise. I have been going here ever since it was called the Rib Ranch, and I still love it. I love all the people that work there...they are always so friendly. I love the down and dirty atmosphere...because that is how you are supposed to eat when you are a cowgirl/cowboy. We always sit on the patio, which we love in the cool evenings. I stick to the usual when I order, the BBQ sandwich and a basket of the fried onion strings. Yum. Every time I have ordered here, I have got a great plate of food. When you want a great BBQ wich, you should def go here! All in all they won't let you down. Thank ya for listenin. Now see ya around.

We were headed to the Atlanta History Center and needed a quick bite to eat. If you just want some middle of the road BBQ, then this place is fine. Nothing much to write home about. The BBQ chicken kinda tastes like what you would get at your family reunion. The brunswick stew was good. The chili is not very good. They claim it is the best item but it is simply a bunch of chili seasoning with some chunks of meat. Pretty lack-luster if you ask me. Drive two minutes to whole foods. You will get BBQ that tastes about the same!

One star? Maybe four, but not a five. It's Texas style barbecue, so there's a heavy emphasis on beef and more beef at One Star. They have pork ribs and pulled pork as well, but the beef is where it's at. When I worked in Buckhead my office would occasionally order copious amounts of ribs, sausage, brisket, and lots of sides. The sides are pretty good, I particularly liked the jalapeno cornbread with the brunswick stew. Give the brisket a try here and you won't be sorry.

"CALLING ALL CARNIVORES" If you are passing though Atlanta GA, One Star Ranch is an outstanding Rib joint to visit. A lot of food so be ready to eat. Highly recommended! Largest Rib I have ever eating. Yeah Baby!

Definitely a blue jeans and sneaker place. Staff very friendly and courteous and you definitely get your moneys worth. I ordered the bb/cue wings and onion rings at first but had to switch out the onion rings for french fries. The onions rings were really small they were more like french onion rings and not the huge onion rings like you would get from Burger King. I traded the onion rings because they were way too salty. My group that I went with loved what they ordered and had to take some home with them the servings were so massive. We sat outside and it was a nice, laid back and relaxing atmosphere. Ladies should not wear any heals. It was my first time there and I did not know what to expect and wore heals with my jeans and my the heals of my shoes kept getting caught in the wooden floor.

First off, when I go to a BBQ joint, I go for the Que, Sides are generally a waste of space to me. Secondly, I was enthusiastic just to find a place in Georgia that had beef BBQ and not just pork. Porks fine, but I prefer beef myself. When we lived in Gainesville Ga. we used to always go into Atlanta (if you lived there, you would understand!) As with all Cities, there are highs and lows When we walked into this complete dive of a BBQ joint, we were greeted enthusiastically by patrons, staff, "well dressed" folks and bikers. This was to me, a good sign Got to love a community vibe like that. I told the waitress we had never been here before, she recommended beef ribs (yay), I ordered 3 ribs (which was CRAZY expensive, but OK, I'm here and will take a leap of faith, besides showing my complete noob status) She asked if I was sure I wanted 3, and my wife wanted two, I said yeppers, I was hungry and was a fan of leftovers anyway. We started out with a basic salad, the blue Cheese dressing was fresh tasting with nice crumbly bacon. I was impressed. I mean was it a high end $9 salad? no, but it was a fine fresh homemade salad loaded with blue cheese and bacon. Then the waitress discovered we had never tried Brunswick stew before, so she brought out a bowl of the stew for each of us to try. Besides being sweet of her, that stew is AWESOME,it was the kind of flavor that will stop your heart and run for the hills to shout HUZAHHHH!!!!! It was a bowl of pure AWESOME! Then..... the plate arrived... these aren't ribs, this was Jurassic Rib Bones. (check the pictures if you doubt me) She sweetly offered to take one away if I felt it was to much. I winked and told her that leftovers are a persons best friend. My wife was amazed at well, the flavor was moist, juicy, with a nice er"buttery? They offer sauce on the side, which was nice, but not the star, the star was meat, cooked to pefection allowing the meat flavor to shine through. With a dab of sauce here and there to spice things up. I had a potato, it was very good. And lets face it, potatoes are a gamble wherever you go, easy to dry em out and get old ones, which is why skillet fried potatoes are such a great save for brunch. (leftovers) I've had giant ribs before, but never anything with the flavor of these. I got to speaking with the owner when we went back (It's great for a place to remember you) He gave me a basic tip that to get giant ribs at home, and the meat at a "reasonable price" find a Meat Monger, and buy a rack of Prime Ribs on the bone (Sams is around $70 per rack up to whatever) and then slice your own ribs, this way, you have giant ribs, and awesome steaks!

Great texas-style BBQ. Baby back ribs have more meat than any I've ever seen before. The pork and beef are good choices. The ribs are great, but they are difficult to eat and still have their skin on. I especially enjoy the baked beans. Don't waste your money on the margaritas. They are weak. It's a small place. So, if you arrive late, you may have to wait for a seat. But you won't be disappointed.

This place gets some things about TX BBQ right, but other elements are missing. Pros: beef brisket and sausage on the menu; lotta places around here don't serve green beans on the menu either, but 1star does. What I didn't like so much: sauce was way too tangy and poured all over the meat, thus obscuring the meat flavor. Most of the BBQ joints I'd been to in the Austin area would have the sauce on the side so you could put on how ever much or little as you wanted (with I guess SaltLick being a notable exception of pre-saucing). So it was a bit difficult to really taste the meat and smoke; next time I'll order sauce on the side, but that really should be the default. The texture of the brisket was pretty good, although it was served in chunks rather than long slices (FYI, I'm a "fatty brisket" guy when ordering at Rudy's). The sausage was a little soft and was overall only so-so. The plates didn't come with white bread by default, and so I had to ask a couple times as I kept running out. Pickles and onions also were not provided. Banana pudding was also missing from the dessert menu. So overall, not bad. "Texas-style" BBQ? Sure, maybe. Texas BBQ? No. (To be fair, the sign outside the joint does indeed only claim to have Texas-style.) The patio was really nice to sit out on on a warm spring/early summer evening. Service was pretty good, until the very end when it took a *long* for the waitress to come around and bring us our check. I think there was a large party inside that she got hung up with, so I won't ding them too badly for that.

It's not a bad place, but it's expensive for what you get. I've been twice now. The first time, I had the rib combo plate - the beef ribs were OK, and not available everywhere. The pork spare ribs I thought were quite good. I also had the Brunswick stew (good), and the onion rings (good, but very greasy). A few days later, I was in the mood for ribs again and thought I'd go back just for the pork spare ribs. While they weren't bad, they didn't seems as good as the first time - portions of the ribs were very overcooked and tough, though the other parts were good.

I've been going here for more years than I care to admit. It's such a laid back place where you can hang out, get a cold beer, and order up some tasty ribs. I like that I don't have to gnaw on the bone to get the meat off of it. Nice and flavorful. Oh, order the stew. Good stuff! Who knew you could find such an authentic place in the heart of Buckhead....

Awesome Texas style BBQ served in a building that should probably be condemned. The dollar bills stapled to the walls are there for structural support. I think the sauce makes this place. Fries are also awesome.

Reliable BBQ in the heart of Buckhead (formerly The Rib Ranch). The menu and recipes have not changed. They added a liquor bar and little else. The pulled pork is devine, and the sides are homemade and good. Sometimes the chicken is a little dry, but hey it's chicken.

so..i LOVE their french fries! my job has gotten lunch catered from One Star lots of times...my friends and i decided to have lunch their last Friday. Service was great! Fries were great! i had the chicken strip sandwich tossed in bbq sauce...it was good. not great or spectacular. but good. decided to get an iced-tea lemonade mix...and that was just ok too. i've had much better @ Chic-fil-a.

Went here last night to relive a memory I had from when I was 16 years old. I just remembered that I ordered this beef rib that was incredible. Well, I have been thinking about that very beef rib for a good 14 years and finally decided to head back. I had the rib and a side of green beans and Brunswick stew. The rib didn't disappoint and the sides were good enough. Seems like a cool place to bring a big party and have a few beers and the location is good if you want to head out to the bars afterward. I'll be back for that beef rib again soon.

So you know, I'm not a big BBQ fan, I go when my friends drag me which they did on July 4th. The food was edible, without the pretty good service would rate one star as in the name. Though not a fan, I've had brisket in the past. I've never had it cubed and it seems purposely dried out, slathered with really boring, generic sauce. Slaw was decent, baked beans okay. Not that Atlanta is great 'que town, there are much, much better places.

Not so much for ribs, a little too dry. Texas style BBQ--I think not. But, the sides are something to talk about. Baked beans are awesome. Delicious fries and onion rings. Smoked sausage and pork plates are tasty. Will go back if I'm stuck in the area.

4 stars only bc i am treated to real texas bbq quite often when i go to dallas or austin BUT this little place of texas style bbq is pretty decent. the brisket is yumm yummy and the servings are huge!! you have to eat the brisket with good 'ol white sliced bread- just they way do in Tejas. If you go with someone I would possibly rec. sharing!!

Used a scoutmob deal here and was definitely a great deal! Service was great, the waitress gave great recommendations (but not too many). Pork ribs were had by a few people and were well liked. The onion rings were also greasy and delicious. The fries were warm and well cooked. The cornbread had jalapenos, and I prefer them with honey, but that's a personal preference. I had the pork sandwich which was good, but I would have liked more BBQ sauce on it. They also validate parking, which is great, because there is no free parking anywhere nearby.

For a guy who doesn't do barbecue all that often, it's always good to go somewhere and get a great meal. The barbecue chicken here was amazing with plenty of meat and not too much sauce so that you couldn't taste the chicken. The serving is kind of big for lunch but just right for dinner or if you're just plain starving like I was. For sides, the corn on the cob and the jalapeno cornbread were great. Got to love the south. You just don't get cornbread with that extra umph up north. For dessert, I was talked into getting the apple cobbler to complete my southern meal. It was great and the first time that I ever had a dish like it, so it was a pleasant surprise. Topped with vanilla ice cream, it was tough to beat. I also liked the large glass of water because I usually drink so much water tht the wait staff is constantly checking my table and I feel bad. With the big glass though, I didn't even finish it and felt good about it. Definitely will go back.

  • Brian J.

  • Adam M.

  • Keo S.

Horrible! Horrible! Horrible! I got the combo plate with chopped pork, sausage, green beans(especially Horrible) and corn bread....

I went here after a friend insisted that the food was good here. The service was not great but ok. I got a BBQ sandwich, fried okra and tea. Yea, I know, weird combo. The okra was good but I believe the BBQ was frozen then reheated. It just did not have a great taste to it.

First visit was great! The meat is top of the line. Sides could be better...I will add more after a second visit... Margarita was $5 but watered down...

"CALLING ALL CARNIVORES" If you are passing though Atlanta GA, One Star Ranch is an outstanding Rib joint to visit. A lot of food so be ready to eat. Highly recommended! Largest Rib I have ever eating. Yeah Baby!

Hole in the wall BBQ in Buckhead. The beef rib was huge, biggest I've ever seen. Could not finish it. Even so, it was over priced IMHO. Not many customers in the place when I had lunch around 1:15 pm and the service was still very slow.

So far this is the best BBQ I have ever had! The chopped pork plate is great, sauce perfect, fries yumo, and brunswick stew is AWESOME! They seem to get you in and out for lunch which is nice. Will definatly go back!

Right on.

Some of the best bbq in town you will not be disappointed and it's intresting to read all the dollar bills that are stuck on the walls.
