The food is ok but the I'm big on service and this place fails in that area for sure. They never seem to opeb on time and the cook needs an attitude adjustment. I ordered a salmon patty, which is clearly listed on the menu... as I listen to the order taker read him my order he starts fussing about how that's a custom order that he doesn't want to make. Really dude?!

This is a hidden gem in my neighborhood. Up the street from my house and across the street from my Alma Mater (Atlanta Metropolitan State College). If you want to experience truth southern cuisine, you need to stop here! Check out my food review website to get additional details.

So many times, South of I-20 seems like the land that Atlanta forgot. The stretch of Metropolitan Parkway from that interstate all the way into downtown Hapeville feels this pain. Apart from a small handful of fast food joints, this lonely stretch stretch of road is pretty much a restaurant desert. Things might be changing though and, if so, it's starting with a little soul. N&N Soul Food Cafe is a clean and green (well...painted anyways) restaurant across the street from the bustling Atlanta Metropolitan College compound. They're set up with a large takeout area or you can sit down with table service and work your way through the extensive list of soul food treats they have to offer. Cheese steaks, fried chicken, turkey necks, pig's feet, meatloaf, and the 'Fried baloney pimp steak' are just some of the menu items that set the tone for a deep South dining experience. We had a little time so we grabbed a table and went after as many dishes as we could handle without needing a wheelchair to roll us out of there. We tried the ox tails, meatloaf, a few sides and a pig's foot...just because. As advertised the ox tail was falling off the bone and the meatloaf had just enough of a taste hook that's it probably something I'll keep thinking about and craving now and again. The collards greens were excellent (probably the star of the show) and while a lot of the food seemed to need the help of a little salt, once things were doctored up with some Louisiana hot sauce and sport pepper vinegar to boot, just about all the dishes came into their own. With N&N back on the map, Metropolitan Parkway has a little ray of light if you want to sit down and have a nice lunch or dinner on that part of town. They serve breakfast too but if you show up too late and you just have to have those bacon and eggs they'll hook you up if they're not too busy....the menu even says so ;)
