It happened to come in on Saturday night, on Asian night. It wasn't bad at all. This place is your typical bar with games like beer pong, darts and pool tables. It's a dive, so it's falling apart in every corner, but so is every bar in Atlanta. I was glad I didn't dress up, it's more of a typical mixed Atlanta crowd. Drinks are OK, nothing fancy.

I must be spoiled in Ohio, because it's illegal to smoke in bars here. When I went to Moondogs, all I could think was that I was suffocating from all the smoke. This couldn't even be masked by awesome drinks or a wonderful crowd... Stinky-ness was the overwhelming experience. Also the bathroom was disgusting. Drinks are basic, they don't do anything special or have great quality. Overall, I think this is probably a hot spot for kids with fake IDs or the elderly. Neither of which I have a problem with, but isn't the crowd I aim to be with on my weekend nights.

Very friendly & hospitable staff, cheap drinks, a total dive but seems like a hot spot in the area. They also have a very tame and friendly dog that walks the bar at night. He's great! He just likes chilling. Oh yeah -- they also allow smoking indoors! How cool is that?

Definitely a college bar (and sometimes high school kids). Some of my friends love coming here as they say, cheap drinks. I've gone here less than ten times of the years since I've been legal and I always experience the same "meh" feeling about this place. I would say it's a very run down bar and needs updating -- you can smell the old. You get what you pay for. They allow smoking here and you will see clouds of smoke here and there so you will leave smelling like cigarettes and smoke. The bar is large in size with multiple rooms (dance room with pole and bar; seating area with TVs; beer pong tables; dart tables; main bar area once you walk in; pool tables; and karaoke room). Restrooms are the scariest and sketchiest part about this bar. There is literally no light in the stalls. It's very difficult to flag down bartenders to order your drink. One time I was able to flag down a bartender, I quickly placed my order of Jack & Coke and he just stared at me, not really acknowledging whether or not he understood and walked away. How weird is that? The ONLY good thing about Moondogs is unlimited free and fresh popcorn. Like my review, MEH, I've experienced better. I'll stick with my Ormsby's.

You don't come to moondogs dressed to impress random hot guys at the bar (there are usually no hot guys anyways HAHA). You come to moondogs to have a BLAST with your group of friends and have an awesome, please-let's-not-be-sloppy-tonight kind of night. Moondogs is always fun - the beer pong table, the pool table and the FREE POPCORN! saywhat? YES. If you see a girl forcing her friends to play "who can throw popcorn and catch it in their mouth" with her, it's probably me and no, I'm not drunk. I'm always entertained when I come here, but their selling point is their staff! I never have to fight for their attention or push&shove to get my order in like I do at other bars AND I always leave having bonded with at least one of the bartenders of the night... too bad I can't remember any of their names the next morning. Speaks to how awesome of a night I have here everytime I come, no?

Went here to meet up with a date this past Sat. Yeah. It was a whim meet up since I desperately needed a pick me upper from the dramatic events during the day, and this outing and place def accomplished that goal. I really thought this place was cool with its many different rooms: dart, beer pong, karaoke, pool, dance, and bar areas. The crowd here was young adults. There was a few older folks, but mostly the early 20's to 30's crowd. There was a lot of Asian faces to be seen as well. I honestly think the drinks here were a tad steep, but then again, you are in Buckhead... And I guess we got the good stuff too. lol. Parking... Hmmm. My friend and I ended up parking at the corner shopping complex. We paid $10, but it was around the corner from Moondogs' so the walk was sweet and short.

this the kind of place you go on any night. There will always be someone in there to speak with and the bartenders really are great. Drink prices are on the pricier side but still affordable. Nothing really stands out about this place. Great for beer pong and pool and other bar games but this place is just a cool average bar.

Totally not frat-tastic. Absolutely nothing to be worried about for a girls night.

Described to me as a "Georgia Tech bar" it was pretty much exactly what I expected. A college style bar nestled into a larger grouping of about 3 - 4 bars in total, it's a little grungy, kinda fratty, and partially a sports bar/dance club. I've really only ever come midweek to celebrate "Welfare Wednesdays" when they have $1 vodka drinks, $2 "fancier" vodka drinks (think Moscow Mules and Vodka/Red Bull), $1 draft beers, and a few other specials. The drinks are quality and the bartenders super friendly. They have pool, bar games, booth seating, a separate dance floor across the hall, and free popcorn to snack on throughout the evening. Moondogs is also pretty friendly to the sports crowd - they have a lot of big TVs with plenty of channels to satisfy everyone (think NCAA football, NFL, NHL, and of course the World Series which was the game of the night this past Wednesday). There are tons of pictures on the walls of past visitors and Atlanta landmarks. My favorite part of Moondogs is seeing Moondog! The honorary bar mascot is an adorable puppy who hangs out in the bar with his owner and has pretty free reign. He'll walk around on the bar and get all the love and attention he can. He doesn't steal sips or knock things over so he's always a welcome guest. This bar isn't my weekend place to go since it can get pretty crowded pretty quickly and parking can be difficult. On a good sports watching night though with killer specials, it's a pretty safe bet.

This place was interesting, more on the dive bar side with a mid-20s crowd. Went to play some pool and darts with friends on a Friday night. The place was not too crowded, but people were definitely out. It was not difficult to get a table or dart board, which we appreciated. We ordered drinks at one of the smaller bars near darts and the bartender was not too interactive. His drinks were fine. The only downfall was when Moondogs was closing in ten minutes the bouncers ransack the place screaming at everyone to get out, which was a bit annoying. Besides that I would visit again, but make sure to leave 20 minutes before closing.

Moondogs is the only bar I enjoy going to in Buckhead. Traditionally known to be a fratty college bar, I tend to see people of all ages. Popular with the Asians because free cover, free POPCORN and cheap drinks. Wednesdays, or "welfare" Wednesdays are the days to go and get cheap drinks: $1 vodka cocktails, $1 draft beers (ask what's on draft for $1 beforehand... Some may not be $1), $4 bombs (I think this is every night) and $5 pitchers (of the $1 draft beers). The crowd is always a little crazier on Wednesday nights which is why... You should go on Wednesday. Lots of games and things to do: flip cup tables, beer pong tables throughout the bar, karaoke, pool, a dance floor (although not as expansive as Hole in the Wall, the patrons at Moondogs are slightly classier...). The owner, Mike, has a full set up at the bar. He's always hosting poker events and fundraisers, letting patrons get drunk for a good cause. He takes good care of me and my crew and makes sure we have a good time but get home safely. He introduced me to some of my favorite drinks today (can someone say Rumchata?? Mmmm). There is usually a local DJ in the dance area, and Caitlyn will set you up with karaoke when you order drinks in the karaoke room. Need I say more? Moondogs is the place to have a good time!

  • Asia L.

Karaoke Wednesday is that night! I've been here more than a few times on a Wednesday, & there is nothing more fun than enjoying a drink with random people who can't sing better or worst than you. Referred to Customer Appreciation day or "Welfare Wednesday", I have no problem paying for a $1 drink to push me on the stage to sing a song for all the fans (lol). The song book could use a MAJOR upgrade when it comes to songs.... Or maybe I just sang them all. Of course there are other rooms to go in & out off. I like to call one the party room with the lights, medium bar, stripper pole, & the better music. The chill room, with the bigger bar & FREE POPCORN. There are multiple pool tables, you can play flip cup, and even throw a few darts. Guys, you have to go to the restroom, & be sure to look up, it;s inspiring, trust! It's a pretty cool spot. Check it out. Oh, and bring cash.

I love Moondogs. One of the few bars in Buckhead that has actual activities! Pool, darts, karaoke, skee ball, flip cup and beer pong tables. Its also really big so the chances of it being too crowded are low which is great because I had clusters. Most of the bartenders are great especially Amy and the man that works at the main bar. Say hi to the bar dog if hes in :) Bartenders at the karaoke bar dont give a last call on putting in songs which is kind of a bummer. This is certainly a collegey divey non classy place but I like that. I dont feel like I have to dress up to go out and its always a good time. Sure it smells like a college bar and if youre a guy and need a toilet youre SOL, but they keep it fairly clean thanks to the guy that picks up cups all night and the girls bathroom always has TP. Also, most importantly, FREE POPCORN and cheap drinks.

So many activities! I love this place and have made it my casual spot for Saturday nights. The karaoke is less singing and more drunk screaming, but it's entertaining nonetheless. And there's a stripper pole in both the karaoke and dance bar, so I love to watch men and women alike embarrass themselves! Hooray! Sometimes the moondog himself is there, say hello to him. Reasonable drink prices, and adequate bartenders most of the time. Plus north end eatery sets up right outside to quench those drunk munchies. Yes.

We came here and had a great time. Met some fun people and played flip cup and beer pong. They had two dollar vodka bombs which are pretty tastey but they only have them on certain days. My favorite part about this bar was the dog, Scout. His owner was a really nice guy too but I didn't catch his name. All the bartenders were friendly, even the security was nice. All over fun place. Can't wait to come back!

I went here on a Wednesday night(welfare Wednesday) & it was great. The drinks were good, the music was good, there's free popcorn, and a lot of rooms depending on tour genre of music. The bar next door was packed to capacity also for a Wednesday night called the "hole in the wall" so it was a really nice vibe.

Let me premise this by stating that I'm very particular about bars. I like quiet venues where I can chat with my company & enjoy crafted cocktails or craft beers. I gave Moondogs a whirl as I've heard good things about it. It is definitely a college bar meant for drinking cheap alcohol in volume. Their setup is plagued with beerpong & flip cup tables throughout the establishment. It's a great place for kids to achieve their objective when they spend their night out. Unfortunately for review's sake, I'm beyond that stage in my life. I was out of my element. I can imagine that this would be an AWESOME bar that I would've loved frequenting had I been here about 5+ years ago. When you come to Moondogs, enjoy whatever novelty drink floats your boat. Perhaps, indulge in a few drinking games. Put on your dancing shoes in the club area or grab the mic to showcase vocal skills (or lack thereof). However, if you're at Moondogs, chances are you're definitely below the age of 25 & just looking to have a wild night. This is probably THE place for you.

I moved to Atlanta when I was 24. I am pretty sure I was too old to go to Moondogs then. I went for the first time this weekend at 30. I was definitely too old now. It was a friend's 22nd birthday, so whatever the birthday girl wants the birthday girl gets. First stop: Moondogs. I was carded by the bouncer, which was quite flattering considering I'm pretty sure the average bar patron here is 18.2 years old. It was better than I had expected, but then again I expected the absolute worst. It's cleaner than Five Paces, Pool Hall, and the other Buckhead dive bars. However, the reasonably clean appearance was quickly negated by the stench. We were there at 10:00 or so, and it was pretty much completely dead. Apparently I'm sheltered, naïve, and/or classy because this is the first bar I've ever been to with black lights, beer pong tables, lit up platforms, and a stripper pole. The drinks were strong and cheap, the birthday girl was happy, and that's all that really matters. Personally I will never be back here for fear of being the creepy old lady in a college kid bar, but hey, at least I can I've been.

This is my sister's go-to bar. Since she raves about it so much, I needed to check it out. I have similar feelings to those in Mary Locke M's review: I'm too old for this. It's definitely a college bar with drinking games already set up, like beer pong and flip cup. You go here for quantities of alcohol, not necessarily quality. It IS a cool concept, though, to have various rooms with something different going on in each: pool table, drinking game, karaoke, dance club. We had a Scooby Snack shot. No idea what's in it, but it tastes good. My sister knows the owner (Mike) and introduced us. He's a pretty cool guy, chill, friendly, and obviously loves what he does.

Ended up here at the recommendation of our hotel bartender. From the outside, the place looks slightly questionable honestly, but not bad at all inside. Nice staff, cheap drinks, decent booze and a friendly (at least that night) clientele. I'd stop back in for a beer when I'm in Atlanta.

My partying days are pretty much behind me, but I come out to Moondogs when 1/3 of my trio tries so desperately to hold onto the last of his college days. I had been declining his invitations until recently, due to the fact that he'll be moving away for his big boy job sooner than I wished. Just trying to spend as much time with him as possible! When I come with him, it's like all the doors open up and I never have to pay for anything. He knows pretty much everyone there, so our group becomes exponentially larger by the end of the night. He is among those GT students (and alum) who love coming here, like Daniel B. stated, especially the fraternity and sorority kids. Being friends with at least one of the bartenders definitely has its perks -- can anyone really turn down free drinks? Don't think so. I've never been charged for cover, and my buddy told me about the parking spot that's absolutely free and lowered/slammed car friendly. There are a lot of things to do here, unlike the other dive bars nearby. There's $1 pool, though the billiard tables are small, the cue sticks are crooked, and most people who place their money on the table to play next aren't exactly on their A game. Hey, blame it on those cheaply priced drinks! There's also darts, but I'd stay away from inebriated kids with pointy objects. If you want to work on your flip cup or beer pong skills, there's a spot for you, too. Or maybe drunken karaoke is more your pace? Yup, climb up on the stage, grab a microphone, and maybe.. just maybe, the stripper pole might somehow end up being part of your act. Nom on some free popcorn and people watch if you're the sober one for the night; soak in all you can and remind your friends later of all the things they can't remember. The atmosphere is very laid back, so wear whatever you're comfortable with. The bar is located upstairs and consists of a myriad of rooms. It's almost like a maze that you can get lost in, but all the walls are knocked down, so you can just walk through each room. I just HATE coming come at 3AM smelling like smoke. Last time I came, I accidentally wore the same hoodie the next day when I went to go tutor kids and realized too late that it reeked of smoke. Oops.. =X "Welfare Wednesdays" is apparently really popular, so if you want to come when there's a guaranteed bustling crowd, hump day is the day to come. Overall a good time; it's just not my type of scene anymore. :)

Cheap drinks, super friendly staff & owner, entertainment (beer pong, flip cup, pool, karaoke, dance, darts, and more). BEST BAR EVER. I'm not too old for this college bar. Not yet. Mike is awesome. We try out other bars but always end up back at moondogs.

My head gets drunk and hungover thinking about this place. It's simply a place to get shitty drunk, and that is all.

  • M A.

My time here was relatively uneventful. It wasn't too crowded at the bar because most people were standing in the hallways drinking. I don't know about you, but if I'm drinking and there's a chair, I'm so in it (unless there is dancing, but that's not quite the case here). The bartender wasn't too attentive after the DD ordered a coke - even tipping on top of that - so it was clear that if you're not here to get wasted and blow cash on watered down Bud Lite, you're not welcome. A little sad because I could see some potential here to build up to a decent bar, but the pretentiousness makes it a little hard to achieve that. You're a bar. You serve beer. Come off the high horse and have a drink!

Moon Dogs: I had to check this place out, simply b/c of the name. It wasn't that great, but it wasn't awful either. I highly recommend finding the restroom before you've had to much to drink. This place had several "rooms". It was kind of cool though. And in every room, was different group of people. It had a game room, a dance room, and a bar room. I think i may have even gotten lost a time or two, but then again..I started drinking early. Needles to say, I'll be back just to see if it was as I remembered it being. Overall.... I had a good time, but I could have had a good time standing out in the middle of the street by this point.

I've been to Moondogs a couple times, and I'm pleasantly surprised (and maybe a little embarrassed) to admit that I actually kinda like this bar! It's definitely not the type of place I would normally hang out at or make it a point to go to, but I haven't had a bad experience here! Although the parking situation sucks and you have to find street parking (unless you want to pay $10 to park in the lots, such as the Trader Joe's parking lot), at least I haven't ever had to pay a cover. Maybe they never charge cover, which is cool, but I've only been there on Friday nights so I don't know for sure. This is actually a good place to go with a large group because there is a variety of things you could do in the numerous rooms. The karaoke machine is obviously very old and the songs probably aren't the most up to date, but a few of my friends and I have enjoyed singing karaoke - in front of people we don't know! (Shocking for those of us who are used to singing in private noraebangs with only our friends!) The bartender in the karaoke area is super friendly and makes yummy drinks. In addition to the karaoke section, I have also participated in a few games of flip cup and beer pong. However, I think it's super disgusting to play beer pong in a bar - using a mere cup of water to "rinse" your ping pong ball after it's fallen and rolled on the floor. Yuck! Don't wanna do THAT again... I hate beer and suck at beer pong anyway, so no biggie. Overall, Moondogs gets 3.5 stars for being a chill bar with plenty of things to do aside from the usual drinking that you can do at any other bar. It's a very casual place where you can be wearing flip flops and jeans, which is a nice change on occasion when you don't feel like dressing up. Again, this isn't a place that I would go out of my way to visit, but I don't mind coming here every now and then with a group of friends. [Review 147 of 366]

To determine if you should ever go here ask yourself a few questions. Are you under 23? Do you like to smell like smoke for 2-3 days after going out? Do you like to play quarters/beer pong/flip cup? If you're a dude, do you like your bathrooms to have a long metal trough in which to relieve yourself? If you're a dude, are you currently wearing a visor, shorts, and sandals? If you answered YES to all of these questions, than this is the place for you!! Welcome. If you answered NO to any of these questions, I'd avoid this place. Hopefully I'll never go back. Lots of random rooms with people playing bar games, drinking, and smoking up a storm. Definitely, a place where the patrons have only been legal to drink for a year or two. Frat tastic!

  • Alex B.

Bartenders were friendly, man cans for $5. Definitely a college bar, but as soon as you walk in, that's exactly what you'd expect. Stripper poles and an actual cage... Actually kind of gross. But it was entertaining, and we were out of there by 12:30, so no harm done. $10 minimum for credit cards. $10 parking (yuck), but there's street parking if you get there early and are willing to walk a couple blocks!

Decent bar around the area. Met up with a group of friends when I got back into town on a Friday night. Not a big crowd there, but definitely a good crowd of people to hang out with. First time trying Hopsicutioner, and it was definitely deserving of its name. If you haven't tried it yet - definitely go for it. Ended up moving towards the back room with the beer pong table and karaoke machine. Mad props for the SCCA Miata racing pic, that was one of the highlights of my night. The bar tender, Caitlyn (or some other spelling), was really nice back there and made a specialty drink for us - - - it was green and tasted good - stronger that it appeared - which we named the Caitlyn's Frankenstein. Overall it was a decent atmosphere and a good way to spend a Friday night. Word of advice, park on the street, not in the parking lots - they charge $10. No cover.

They have pool, darts, foosball, karaoke, a dance/club style room, bar/pub style room with a jukebox, and beer pong tables. Oh yeah...and free popcorn. If you want to go grab some beers and play some games, this is a cool spot. If you want to sit in a dimly lit room while sipping microbrews and listening to Bob Dylan, don't. Very courteous bartenders. Andy is the man!

Moondogs can be a go-to just about any night of the week. Bartenders are super friendly and the place is HUGE. The room separation is great because you have a place for any type of mood your in. Relaxing at the bar, a booth, beer pong, pool, karaoke, or DJ/dance floor. There is a room for all of these. They are open late and they valet, plus you can pop in and out of others bars next door and just come back to moondogs whenever you want becuase the best part is no cover (unlike other spots around there) Taylor is the best :)

This place is crowded, people are hammered sloppy, and my buddies and I were systematically shut down by every girl in the place right up until closing time. Moral of the story? This bar is freakin legit. As 3 Yankees and a couple of Canadians down in ATL for the NHL 2008 All Star weekend, we hit any bar we could find, any bar we were told about, and we hit them all as hard as humanly possible. That said, our group was dismantled and only semi-conscious upon leaving, with me (somehow) the only coherent witness by nights end. Cheap beer, friendly service, and young and mostly good looking crowd (ok, I was 1,000 miles from home. I'm allowed to pretend everyone was good looking). Juke box, lots of tables, 2 bars and a separate room with a dance floor. 1 star for being a big bar with a fun, rowdy, young crowd 1 star for shutting the place down like us Yankees do 1 star for being a bar to remember during a blurry weekend 1 star for being 3 shitfaced New Yorkers and somehow avoiding a fight 1 star for no one saying "enough" after 4 large shots of Patron in a row 1 star for some Northerners dancing with every girl in the place -1 star for the fat girls who saved their hot friends from us Yanks (earlier) and the good looking girls who saved the DUFFs from us (later) -1 star for not being open at 11am on Sunday morning when we tried to come back for more. Yeah, it was like that. Don't say you weren't warned!

It's a pretty typical college bar, complete with beer pong and stages to dance on. I can't say this place would be a bad time, it just wasn't particularly packed on a Saturday evening. The beer was cheap and flat, just like college! Seriously though, it's not my scene but I think with a different mindset and a few more people, this place can be fun.

A great bar to hang out with your friends and play some beer pong or just dance and get liquored up. Usually enough seating for you and your friends (we lucked out last time and got a huge round table right next to one of the bars). Cheap drinks, and fun things to do while drinking. The bartenders are really nice and quick too. There are a few different rooms with different bars and different things to do (i.e. dance, beer pong, hang out, pool, or sit at a bar). The main negative is PARKING. You WILL GET BOOTED, if you park in the side lot next to the bar by Loco's, trust me, I found out the hard way. That's a smooth 75 bucks. Best bet is to do the valet for the cost of a tip or park on the street and walk a few blocks. Going tonight for my girlfriends birthday and can't wait!

I went here once with some friends in college before I knew the city well. It gave me a fear of Buckhead that persists to this day and has kept me from wanting to check out any restaurants and bars in the neighborhood. This place has a crappy beer selection and a crowd of former frat boys and sorority girls.

I just recently joined several of my co-workers on our Atlanta team, and a bunch of them wanted to hang out at Moondogs last night. I'm up for just about anything, but out of curiosity I decided to read some reviews about the place ahead of time. After reading tons of negative or at least sarcastic reviews, I was less than enthused about heading to Moondogs. I'm definitely glad I went, despite the bad reviews! I know it was a little different going with a big group of work friends than if I were solo, but I was still pleasantly surprised. The prices are extremely reasonable, the bartenders very friendly and provide fast service to first timers and regulars alike. The crowd seemed pretty mixed as well, which wasn't reflected in some other reviews. My group of work friends varied in age from early 20s to early 30s, and I saw some in the bar who were clearly 40-50. Don't get me wrong, this is still predominantly a college hang out and I saw more polo shirts and flip flops than I thought I could handle, but it wasn't overwhelming and didn't take away from the overall experience of the place. Moondogs is what you make of it. If you are determined to have a bad time and not mix with the crowd, that will probably be your experience no matter your age or whatever else. However, if you are willing to kick back, relax, and have a good time...you'll have a great time here. We will all definitely be going back soon!

Moondogs is located on the floor above the bar with the nastiest floors in Atlanta: Hole in the Wall. While Moondog's is no where close to having the poor interior condition that Hole in the Wall has, it is definitely on its way. I think every time that I have been to Moondogs, it was usually to escape Hole in the Wall; however, after a little bit of time in that general area, I often found myself wandering out on the street in front of the bars alone, desperately looking for a cab ride home. What is it that makes Moondog's so hated by some and celebrated by others? Perhaps the only answer to that enigma of a question lies in the heart of diverse social groups that know of the location. Like most of the reviewers of this bar have stated, this place is a fraternity boy haven. You show me an individual who is not wearing his favorite college team's hat and a polo shirt, and I will show you an individual who does not want to be here. The bartenders themselves are not too bad. I was actually surprised how quick they were able to assist everyone who needed a drink. It also surprised me how the bartenders never played favorites with individuals who were obviously regulars, considering they were on a first name basis with the bartenders.

I love this place to really go party. Mixed crowd (mostly younger now... or I'm just getting older~) went there for my Bachelorrette party and had a blast. Bartenders/bouncers are all very nice. Has lots of different rooms with different music and ambiances and themes. If you're just looking for a fun place to drink and dance with friends (and sometimes kareoke) this is the spot!

  • Jennifer W.

The party was in full swing when we got there. The dance floor isn't large, therefore it was crowded and hot. Lots of group bumping and grinding going on. The music was top 40 and easy to move to. The bartenders seemed overwhelmed, but were hustling as quickly as possible. We staked claim to the dartboards and hung there for a while. The dartboards are next to the entrance and on the way to the restrooms, so there were a couple of near-misses with some oblivious partyers. There are also some pool tables in the back, smashed next to the restrooms. Okay, let's address the restrooms. It was so crazy hectic with men running in and out to relieve themselves in the trough. I don't even think there was a door on the men's room. The hallway to the restrooms was cramped and short. There was nowhere to stand and wait for a turn. And, in the ladies room, there were two toilets, but no stalls. Yep. The ladies get to socialize face to face while peeing. Awesome. Moon Dogs is a typical fun-loving, good time bar. Oh, and watch out for that itty-bitty treacherous step on the way up to, and down from, the dance floor.

Wow, so there is life in Buckhead. A friend had their birthday party here after dinner at Loco's and I guess the best way I could describe it is that it hasn't changed much since I've been in college. Yes, they expanded, but the first thing I remember when walking in is that it smelled just as bad as it did a decade ago... ...anyways, it's not really a rip on the place. What can you say: it's a bar, it has alcohol, darts, pool tables, and places to dance. Nothing bad, nothing special, just okay, and it's always great to visit memory lane; got no issue going here and would stop in occasionally for a brew, just wouldn't go outta my way for it :)

I'm inside for no more than 2 minutes and some guys ralphs on the floor and it splashes onto my feet! I swear I turned red, horns sprouted from my head, and a cape magically appeared. Puke on my feet?!?! Thank goodness for friends because they grabbed me and we walked over to the dance floor which made the cape, horns, and redness disappear. The dance floor was packed with college age kids breaking it down. They looked liked they were having a great time. It wasn't my kind of place so I left. Total time inside was about 10 minutes. Oh, not to mention that outside, there was a girl laid out on the side walk, not moving. An ambulance came to take her away. There was also a guy in handcuffs, and another girl puking behind a fence.

Oh, good ol' Moon Dogs. This place is a madhouse most weekends I have gone. Most of the people come in bigger groups or pairs of friends. For some reason there are always these nerdy "kids" saying something stupid to us when my friends and I go out. Although, this place is at least guaranteed to play the radio Hip Hop hits on the somewhat small dance floor and alternative in the other larger room. In my opinion it can satisfy the people who hate Hip Hop and the people who hate rock/alternative. There are pool tables (usually used regularly) and darts for those who need some interaction that doesn't involve dancing. It is not the cleanest or, by far, upscale place in any way BUT it is always our last resort for at least having a good time with my friends if the venue we tried first sucked music and crowd wise. As I like to say it is what it is and you can make of it what you want but I never rule it out. PS the beer and drinks are fairly cheap

Moondogs is fun if you are in college... and still enjoy the whole college bar atmosphere. I'm 27, and although I pride myself in being able to have a good time anywhere...I dont ever find myself saying.."Hey lets go to Moondogs" Its more of a place where you just end up. When I was 24 ish I thought this was like the place to party!!! I would drive up with my best friend Lisa from Athens and we would stay in Sandy Springs and get a cab into town...At the time, its all I really knew about "going out in atlanta" A step up from Classic City in Athens, I thought this was what the nightlife was all about in Atlanta. And i was pretty content. Nothing pretty about it, this is one step up from hole in the wall IMHO. Youll see alot of fratastic, momma's boys-and of course the sorority girls all glammed up and hitting the town hard with their 3 BFF'S for the oh-so-needed "girls night out." Its casual, there are dart games to be played, and a pool table...Its smoky, the floors are sticky, and there are is alot of humping going on on the dance floor. If that constitutes a good time for you~Have at it! It's all yours. All in All: Seriously, I'm over meeting strangers in a bar, and pretending to act intested in their oh-so-lame pick up lines

Moondog's is what it is: a college bar. The combination of pretty girls and cheap cheap drinks were the draw for me and my cohorts. Maybe more collegiate than fratty (is that the same?). I don't think anyone mentioned how its like 4 bars in one place. Live Music and dancing, Pool/Darts Pub with Juke box, like a sportsbar near the TV, and a little loungey in the back. Best reason to come is $4 pitchers of Miller Light on Thursdays if you are there before they run out. One word of caution to dudes is there are only urinals, the solution to that being leave and go to Locos next door.

This place is nothing fancy, but it sure is a good time. The $1 vodka wells are always a win, and the different rooms are great to hang out with friends in. Plus, being right next door to Peachtree Tavern and Hole in the Wall make it easy to bar hop.

Let the record show: I am an ex fraternity guy from a small, southern liberal arts school. I was the baseball cap and polo shirt wearing, preppy, irritating, and raucously drunk guy for four years (plus another one after I graduated). When I see guys my own age who are acting like we all did when we were 19-23, it makes me cringe. It's a bunch of dudes clinging as tightly to their college habits as their shirts fit now. There are just too many of those guys at Moondogs (and lots of places in Buckhead in general) for me to relax. You can tune them out when you're in college or an out of towner blowing off steam, but seeing those same sad sacks every time you're in Buckhead just makes me want to find a small neighborhood bar with a good beer list instead.

Moondogs is fun, if youre in college. Its fun when youre not but I am just getting too old for this. Moondogs is just above hole in the wall and peachtree tavern. All three of those are just more of a college hangout. The air sucks here, its always crowded and sticky. Its pretty gross.

  • Rebecca O.

There are few experiences I detest more than entering the fraternity/UGA haven that is Moondogs. Don't get me wrong ... I'm Southern, preppy and did my fair share for the Greek system in college, but this place just hits all the wrong nerves. It's smoky, crowded, full of way-too-young kids and never offers up much excitement. At least they have live music and something that could be referred to as a dance floor. They also have a stripper pole. There's nothing more pathetic than watching girls who think they're hot trying to be strippers and really just embarrassing themselves.

Sooo....me and two of my friends drove to Atlanta from Charlotte, NC on a Wednesday night for a Braves-Yankees game. We knew we wanted to defintitely go out somewhere, but was unsure if there would be anything good to get into on a Wednesday night. I immediately did my research to see if there were any places that weren't too far from the hotel that we were staying at, which was right outside of the Buckhead Area, about a block away from the Brookhaven MARTA station. After we got back from the game, which the Yankees won by the way, haha...we headed back to the hotel to change, and then the night was about to begin. We drove up to Moondogs and parked across the street in front of some businesses, b/c it was free. I knew my car would be safe there. As we approached Moondogs, there were people enjoying drinks on the outside patio at Peachtree Tavern (a place that was in the same complex as Moondogs). We got our ID's checked, and up the stairs we went. As soon as we walked up the stairs and walked to the left, I immediately thought, "This is it." Well I learned quickly that there was way more to this place than what I saw from just walking up the stairs. We started off with a pitcher of beer, which was very reasonably priced...chatted with the bartender for a bit and she kinda gave us the 411 on the place. We started walking around and I thought I was in heaven. There were two official sized beer pong tables (which we did play on), pool tables, corn hole, a jukebox, foosball tables....basicially a mans dream. I think I fell in love with the room that played nothing but HIP HOP. I'm a big fan of all genres of music, but if you wanna get your dance on, hip hop/top40 usually helps. They had other parts of the place that played other genres of music. I read reviews on the place before we went, but I've always been the kinda person that walked into places or situations with no expectations, so I wanted to see it for myself. I kept reading that the floors were discusting, but I didn't encounter that, and I wore flip flops and I am a self-proclaimed germaphobe, haha. Maybe the floors were clean b/c it was the first day it was open for the week and it was closed for 3-4 days and maybe what's when they clean the floors???? Who knows. I also read that it was a frat hangout and a college hangout. I didn't really witness that either. There was a good male to female ratio in the house. I'm about 5 years removed from college and I had a blast. The only thing that I really didn't like about the place was the mens bathroom. It was small as a closet and there was one big a*s stainless steel urinal that wrapped around the whole bathroom. It looked like a sink that you might find at a barn or something that animals might drink water from, haha. I wasn't feeling the bathroom b/c I'm kinda uncomfortable standing next to another man with no kinda privacy or partician between us. I don't need anybody checking out my stuff, haha. We wanted to check out "Hole in the Wall," which was located downstairs, but we had so much fun at Moondogs, we never left. This place will definitely be getting hit up again the next time I make it back down to the Atlanta area

I stopped back in here a few nights back as I've not been here in a while. The last time I was here was a year+ ago when economy was better. A new sign near the bar says 'we gladly pour more'. I ordered a Makers Mark. I was charged $6 which is a great price for Makers in *any* bar, never mind the stereotyped overpriced buckhead standards. My makers was poured HEAVY & STIFF - a great value for the money & well worth it. I tipped well on this one!. The crowd has not changed (see other reviews. Dittoes on the crowd here) but Moondogs is going to survive & be around for another 100 years. Worth the trip if this is your type of place. Pay-for-play juke box was awsome & volume was cranked to "11" -- perfect for Fri night.

fun if you are not in college... I guess. This is more of a college hangout but, we had a group out having a good time and this place was def bearable because there was more room to breathe than other places. Had a good time with my friends!

I walked in and walked right out. I'm 28 and it's a very young, white frat/sorority crowd. Lots of frustrated sexual energy and beer in bottles... overall wasn't my scene.

one of the few places i was dragged to on my birthday. im not a club girl but i like to think i can dance so thats what i did. like other reviewers mentioned, the floor was sticky and the bathroom was gross. i didnt notice the other patrons because i was with a group of friends and i think i was already "gone" by the time we got there.

Let the record show that I am an ex-fraternity guy from a large urban university in Atlanta (GSU) and have been making appearances at Moondogs for the past four years. Sometimes it is nice to go out and have some drinks with some friends wearing something simple like jeans and a t-shirt and people don't stare you down like you just walked into Phipps Plaza. I don't even think there are enough bars like Moondogs in Atlanta since the rest of them cater to the yuppie crowd I try to avoid. The gang at Moondogs is not nearly as homogeneous as that of East Andrews and is far more relaxed. The popcorn machine can even stave off a trip to the Waffle House.

  • J. D.

This is the quintessential Southern college bar replete with cute coeds, shaggy haired boys, and lots of Abercrombie and Fitch Khakis and Oxfords. They know their crowd, and keep the domestic beer cold and cheap, the Jager flowing, and the music cranking. Oh, to be young again.

    (3)
  • Brittany W.

.... typical frat boy hang out...and we all know where there are frat boys there are sorority girls..... so thats the crowd. here but if you come with your own group of friends you can still have a good time... if thats not your scene.. nice size... small dancefloor...well dance worthy music playing.. and pretty cheap beer... come in... its ok....

Yay, Moondogs. I like when the evening turns this way. The casual, medium-sized bar is conveniently located on Peachtree, so it's ideal for a night of bar hopping. One advantage to this location is the tourists (in addition to locals) who frequent this bar. You might meet young men and women on business from different parts of the country, or in town for a wedding, etc. This is also a popular spot for Emory, Tech, and Georgia State students, overall producing a good mix of patrons. I've had several enjoyable conversations with people at this place; I've also spoken to some incredibly drunk people. Thus, Moondogs has a little of everything. There are a few pool tables, several large tables and couches, and a room with a stage and dance floor. Sometimes a band performs crowd-pleasing country and pop rock songs. While I don't like to spend my entire evening here, it's a fun place to pop in and out of.

Never thought I would come back here, but I did. In the early-to-mid 2000s, Moondogs was a very popular bar for Georgia Tech students, especially those in fraternities and sororities. I hadn't visited since my days at Tech, until recently when a group of friends from out-of-town came to visit. We went bar-hopping in Buckhead and eventually spent the most of our time at Moondogs. The bar is pretty much the same as I remember it, though not as many college kids. We went on a Friday night from around midnight to 3am. The crowd was heavily weighted towards twenty-somethings and more diverse than I've ever seen it. Lots of people, but not crowded. Level of smokiness varied by room. One of my friends made some good points about why he likes Moondogs: space is big, atmosphere is laid back, and drinks are cheap. There are several rooms and multiple bars. Plenty of seating, TVs, pool tables, flip cup and beer pong tables, darts, dance floor, and karaoke room with stage. So there seems to be something for everyone here. ESPN is projected on the wall outside, so you can catch some sports while waiting for a cab. Our bartender, Megan, was really sweet and did a wonderful job keeping our drinks coming. The urinals in the men's restrooms are designed with the metal trough configuration, so you can pee en masse with others over buckets of ice. I just happened to be looking up during one of my breaks and was pleasantly surprised to see the ceiling (in at least one of the men's restrooms) plastered in cutouts of Playboy centerfolds.

Came by with some of my girlfriends last night, and ended up running into practically EVERYONE. Definitely a popular spot for a lot of college students and even graduates to hang out at. Drinks were relatively cheap. $6 cocktails that got me feeling.. pretty good lol. They have darts, and $1 pool tables all over the place, seats at the bar, and tables if you don't want to sit at the bar, and rooms to play beer pong in. Free popcorn that is EXTRA salty... to dehydrate you and trick you into drinking more alcohol. lol. First time there, and had lots of fun. Probably hit up some of the other spots near by, and venture to see what else there is.

Awesome bar. Everyone is extremely nice. The bar tenders are skilled and very friendly. Cheap drinks and a lot of bars inside. Tons of stuff to do: pool, darts, beer pong, karaoke etc. FREE UNLIMITED POPCORN is addicting. I've only been in Atlanta for 2 months and I have never been to a bar anywhere that treats everyone so well.

  • Diana T.

Beer pong. Flip Cup. Darts. Pool Tables. Dance floors. Decent drink specials. Free popcorn. Great Atmosphere. That definitely sums up Moondogs. Fun place for 20 something year olds to hang out at. Definitely a diverse crowd. You run into everyone here. They allow smoking inside, so it can get pretty smokey in here. Come here for a fun night in Buckhead!

    (4)
  • Melissa G.

Moondogs is your typical dirty, college bar. If you're not drunk, you probably won't have a good time. There is something to do there for everyone though. There are different rooms dedicated to dancing, karaoke, pool, and flip cup. On "Welfare Wednesdays" there are $1 drinks while they last. They also have a drink called the Inception Bomb (a drink within a drink), which is definitely worth at least witnessing. On busy nights, it can be difficult to walk through the crowds of people. On slow nights, they have free pool and poker.

    (4)
  • R M.

Atmosphere is electric up here in Buckhead. I trip on the white geeky people throwing down to rap but it's all about having a good time..lmao

  • Kristi B.

Walking in, Moondogs felt like your average dance club. Heavy music, heavy smoke, bouncer (I LOVE getting carded!) I was disappointed...mainly because I didn't recognize much of the music and thought the DJ was somewhat amateur. We stayed for a while though, dancing and thinking something better would happen. No such luck, unfortunately. My assistant found out later that Thursday night (yes, the night we were there) is college night. Oh. That explains why I felt so old! So, I guess if you're over 30, try a night other than Thursday, it might be better.

  • Lin H.

    (2)
  • Thomas H.

Very friendly & hospitable staff, cheap drinks, a total dive but seems like a hot spot in the area. They also have a very tame and friendly dog that walks the bar at night. He's great! He just likes chilling. Oh yeah -- they also allow smoking indoors! How cool is that?

    (4)

    (2)
  • Judy L.

We try out other bars but always end up back at moondogs.

this the kind of place you go on any night. There will always be someone in there to speak with and the bartenders really are great. Drink prices are on the pricier side but still affordable. Nothing really stands out about this place. Great for beer pong and pool and other bar games but this place is just a cool average bar.

Beer pong. Flip Cup.

Good strong drinks, friendly strangers, beer pong, flip cup, pool, and drunk people singing on the mic...what more could one need from a bar. There is great fun to be had in this place, try it.

  • Tawny K.

Had a good time with my friends!

one of the few places i was dragged to on my birthday. im not a club girl but i like to think i can dance so thats what i did. like other reviewers mentioned, the floor was sticky and the bathroom was gross. i didnt notice the other patrons because i was with a group of friends and i think i was already "gone" by the time we got there.

    (3)

.... typical frat boy hang out...and we all know where there are frat boys there are sorority girls..... so thats the crowd. here but if you come with your own group of friends you can still have a good time... if thats not your scene.. nice size... small dancefloor...well dance worthy music playing.. and pretty cheap beer... come in... its ok....

  • Kate M.

    (3)
  • Rebecca O.

There are few experiences I detest more than entering the fraternity/UGA haven that is Moondogs. Don't get me wrong ... I'm Southern, preppy and did my fair share for the Greek system in college, but this place just hits all the wrong nerves. It's smoky, crowded, full of way-too-young kids and never offers up much excitement. At least they have live music and something that could be referred to as a dance floor. They also have a stripper pole. There's nothing more pathetic than watching girls who think they're hot trying to be strippers and really just embarrassing themselves.

Going tonight for my girlfriends birthday and can't wait!

one of the few places i was dragged to on my birthday. im not a club girl but i like to think i can dance so thats what i did. like other reviewers mentioned, the floor was sticky and the bathroom was gross. i didnt notice the other patrons because i was with a group of friends and i think i was already "gone" by the time we got there.

Beer pong. Flip Cup.

Atmosphere is electric up here in Buckhead. I trip on the white geeky people throwing down to rap but it's all about having a good time..lmao

  • Lin H.

    (2)
  • Thomas H.

Very friendly & hospitable staff, cheap drinks, a total dive but seems like a hot spot in the area. They also have a very tame and friendly dog that walks the bar at night. He's great! He just likes chilling. Oh yeah -- they also allow smoking indoors! How cool is that?

    (4)

I went here once with some friends in college before I knew the city well. It gave me a fear of Buckhead that persists to this day and has kept me from wanting to check out any restaurants and bars in the neighborhood. This place has a crappy beer selection and a crowd of former frat boys and sorority girls.

    (3)

.... typical frat boy hang out...and we all know where there are frat boys there are sorority girls..... so thats the crowd. here but if you come with your own group of friends you can still have a good time... if thats not your scene.. nice size... small dancefloor...well dance worthy music playing.. and pretty cheap beer... come in... its ok....

Overall.... I had a good time, but I could have had a good time standing out in the middle of the street by this point.

this the kind of place you go on any night. There will always be someone in there to speak with and the bartenders really are great. Drink prices are on the pricier side but still affordable. Nothing really stands out about this place. Great for beer pong and pool and other bar games but this place is just a cool average bar.
