Drinks: The Pear Blossom martini was pretty good. It had Grey Goose pear with OJ, some fresh ginger, and maybe some triple sec? If you sit outside the umbrellas have recipes for mixed drinks on them, so I looked up and saw the recipe for a Karma Sutra. I ordered that as my second drink and I liked it better than the Pear Blossom. Unfortunately I can't remember what went into the Karma Sutra. My friend got the Karmargarita. It was good! Fresh and lots of salt on the rim of her glass. Food: Fish and chips - they give you a huge portion of fried fish. The batter is nice and crispy, but they're nothing super special about it. The "chips" we're under the fish and kinda soggy. I like the flavor of seasoning on the fries, but I would've liked them better if they were crispy. Pork belly BLT - other reviews said this was amazing... It wasn't amazing but it was pretty good. (but you have to admit, anything with pork belly is really good) I think the prom belly was a little overcooked, it was kind of dry on the outside. Other than that the aioli on the sandwich was good and the poppy sees bun was good too. Gouda Mac n cheese - this was good. Just the right amount of cheesiness :) and who can resist Gouda?? Not me. :) I tried the Kielbasa sausage and mashed potatoes my friend got. The sausage was good, had a little kick to it. Overall, Midtown Tavern seems like a dive gastropub that has good, not great food, but good drinks. =)

A server named Roy saw that my cell phone had been left at the table and carried it across two... count them... two... parking lots to bring it to me! So beyond the call of duty that it falls into the "selfless act" category! Beyond my singular positive experience at the Midtown Tavern, lets get into the rest of this review shall we? Word on the street is that it's one of the best Karaoke spots in the city, which was quickly evidenced by the stream of gorgeous people who came through the door at 10pm on a Wednesday! Holy Mother of Fudge if I didn't have a religious experience when an extraordinary redhead got up to sing Alanis Morissette... (A musician that would normally make me come out bearing a weapon!) Her rendition was proof of the magic of Karaoke... the terrible, terrible magic of it. My brother ordered a burger, and I have to admit... it was deep with flavor and high art in presentation! Homemade bun, juicy meat, and fresh crisp lettuce... it was really beyond what I would have expected. All topped off with Buttery crispy fries I would consider dangerous in greater number. The space itself is boring and rectangular with all the neon bar signs and charm of a strip mall bar... but when I dug a little deeper, I saw how the Midtown Tavern has it's day in the sun. It's the people that make it work... and I have the feeling it works often. I will be back.

I wasn't keen on the surroundings as I went into this bar. Wasn't sure where to park, and it was very dark and quiet, but maybe because it was a rainy night. Inside the menu options were rather refreshing to see at a pub, and we went with the garlic & parmesan wings - which were amazing!! Best flavor ever and I really appreciated the extra cheese on top. I felt the place was rather empty except for the regulars, who were very good at karaoke. Overall the drink/food experience was above average, but unless I'm in the mood for karaoke with a large group with similar music tastes, probably won't be back.

I came here last night for the first time and had fun listening and watching the karaoke performances. Mad props to those who got on stage to sing :) The place is long and narrow with a pool table near the entrance, booths that line the wall on the right, and the bar on the left. There's a couple tables in the center of the place with the stage in the back. It was a nice, new experience, and people were having a really good time there. There was 2 servers that night so service was backed up. Our server was friendly though. Just a note, the food is kind of freakin expensive. My friend was starving and ordered fish and chips for $13 and side items were $4. Although there were other lesser-priced (around $7) menu items as well. The portions were on the bigger side; not ginormous, but not small either. I don't think the food was good because my friend didn't look like a happy camper after eating it. Her fries tasted fine to me, but the price had me gagging. Verdict? Go here for the entertainment and booze, don't count on the food or at least the fish and chips. It was a new experience and I had a good time, but I'm giving it an A-ok, bc this type of bar is really not my type of thing.

I LOVE THIS PLACE. The patio is awesome, wait staff is nice, the porch is great and the interior has a lot of space with a great stage for karaoke. The beer selection isn't exhaustive, but they do have some good choices. But here's why it gets one star: I had a birthday party there on Friday night and the Karaoke DJ was such a JERK to me! I don't ever write reviews, but he was so unaccommodating, an all-around curmudgeon, and totally rude! We put in 3 song requests when karaoke started at 9:30pm and by 1:30am, he still hadn't let us sing the third one. At the start of the night, my friend asked me to come up and sing with her after I just got done with a song, he told us no one can go twice in a row. We said it was my birthday and he snarkily responded that he didn't care. He put a complete damper on my birthday and when I talked to him later, he confused me with one of my friends- said I had said something rude that I hadn't- and then proceeded to tell me that I was confused because I was drinking and he wasn't! AH! Why would anyone treat someone that way, especially on their birthday? If they had a different DJ, they would have gotten great reviews from me! You should still go check it out and give the DJ a big hug and tell him that you're sorry for whatever happened to him that made him such a curmudgeon.

I've been living in Georgia going on about 3 years now, and still every now and then I manage to get myself lost while driving, and that is exactly what happened the night I went to go meet up for Karaoke at Midtown Tavern. At a red light while reading directions I was distracted , and when it turned green I stepped on the gas and almost hit a blind pedestrian!!! Not good! Even more reason to use my GPS I suppose! Thank goodness for Adam, who finally gave me the correct directions! When I finally did arrive parking was another issue. The parking at the post office was full and my only other options were to park beside the building down the street a bit, or in the Publix shopping center. So get there early to manage a decent parking space. Karaoke was fun, and everyone got into the spirit of it, although some a little more than others! Wait staff was friendly and quick on the refills. One thing I can ask for is some more comfy chairs. I mean I have more than ample padding back there but somehow one of the wooden dowels must have managed to poke me in my backside all night! After the liquor wore off the next morning I was surely in pain!

First off, I've NEVER stepped foot in this establishment during daylight. So I have no idea what it's like during the day. I can tell you that Friday night is THE night to check this place out though. Brace yourself for karaoke love though. Cause it's all up in your FACE. Regulars certainly haunt the establishment, far from a bad thing. I've had the food here as well, from time to time and I've been satisfied. The issue can arise with slow service at times. The place can get ridiculously packed and the servers can loose track. I've been here far too many times with friends to give this place a bad rap, and we've had our fair share of quality stories come out of here. This is your neighborhood's bar, neighborhood bar. Come check it and check it often.

Met up here with fellow Yelpers for karaoke night and had a good time. This place is bigger than I thought. Couple of pool tables in a separate room, dart area and plenty of tables and bar seating in the main area. TV's here and there for your viewing pleasure. Seems like this is a fav spot for karaoke - there was a decent crowd. Service was good, never had an empty glass. However, every time she would bring a new beer she would not take the old glass. Finally, I asked if she would mind clearing the six empty beer glasses sitting in front of me. What a concept! Nice patio outside that could be chill to sit on in the warmer months ahead.

Wow! I actually thought that I had already reviewed this place considering I go here frequently. So here it goes! Midtown Tavern is a very 'neighborhoody' kind of place. The kind of place where you will see a lot of regulars who live in the area, which is cool. They revamped their menu some time ago and I was hesitant at first but not anymore! I've been here several times since then and I have to say that everything I have had has been fantastic. It isn't your typical deep fried bar food. They have a wonderful Grilled Pizza Margherita and that is one of the staples that I order whenever I come here. The fresh basil they use is wonderful. Their chicken tenders are true chicken tenders with a nice crispy, light batter; not the fake ass chicken tenders I've seen at some places. We usually sit at the bar because we've found that we get waited on faster there and it's easier for the bartenders since they're the only waitstaff, at least when we've been here. I love Midtown Tavern. If you haven't had a chance to check it out yet - what are you waiting for?! And remember, order the Grilled Pizza Margherita. You will not be disappointed.

Midtown Tavern is awesome for three reasons: the food, drinks, and the karaoke. This is not your typical "bar food"--it's much, much better. We tried the margherita pizza (delicious!) and the mac & cheese. Both were good, but the mac & cheese was made with a smoky gouda, which isn't my favorite. It was quite popular with other diners, though. The best part of the night, though, was the karaoke. There were several GREAT singers, and a bunch of people that really knew how to put on a good show. I enjoyed singing along from the comfort of my table, but maybe next week I'll be brave enough to join them.

We went early on a Friday evening, around 6. We didn't have any trouble with parking, and the service was good. Our server looked kind of fratastic, but had a lot of tattoos, so while we had put off trying this place for awhile since we're wary about going to settings in midtown that aren't frequented by the gays i'm happy to report that we didn't get any overt stares or threatening looks. We tried the grilled edamame, the southern gentleman, and the pork belly blt with fries. The edamame made us marvel at the fact that edamame is ever boiled. It's amazing, no joke. It's smokey and salty and wonderful and whoever invented it should be celebrated. My wife ordered the southern gentleman(a burger stuffed with pimento cheese and topped with peppered bacon and tomato chow chow) which killed! The bacon gave the burger some smoke and spice, the cheese was creamy and a little tangy, and the chow chow complimented the whole thing perfectly. The fries were perfect, crispy on the outside but creamy on the inside and moderately salted with sea salt. It didn't seem that huge, but she couldn't finish it. I begrudgingly helped. After reading all the hype in the reviews I ordered the pork belly blt. It was juicy and very fatty and the braise tasted vaguely of barbecue. The lettuce and tomato were great, but the pork belly had less flavor than I expected and the consistency was a little off-putting. It was a good experience, and we'll probably go back to try the alcoholic milkshakes and other sandwiches.

We went here after an Atlanta Sport & Social Club kickball tourney on Sunday. This is kind of their hangout after the game, I guess. I would give it 1.5 stars if I could because our server, Maria, really tried and was very nice. Although I have to say, she was dressed more like she was going to work at Hooter's. I guess if you are young, thin and pretty you can get away with wearing almost no clothes, but it is a bit much when I would prefer my man's eyes on me than on the waitress. I get that this is something of a "dive" bar, but that should not be an excuse for less than mediocre food. The Caesar salad actually wasn't bad, but how badly can you mess up a Caesar salad? The veggie flatbread with chicken was just gross. Crust was really burnt on the edges and soggy in the middle. Supposed to have goat cheese but there was nothing there. Veggies were too chunky and cold and did not hold up well on soggy crust. I didn't complain because we ate it all and we were pretty hungry. I hate it when people eat the whole thing and then complain and ask for it to be taken off the bill. Not my style. I just suggested that the chef may want to work on improving this. I ordered the chicken nachos so they could hopefully redeem themselves. They were not horrible, but they were pretty lukewarm and the chicken was almost cold. Iced tea was not too great. I did see some of the dishes that others got and the burgers and sandwiches actually looked pretty good. I don't go to Midtown very often, and there are so many other choices that I don't think I will return to Midtown Tavern. I like The Nook and other similar joints that have better quality for a similar price.

I didn't eat any food here - just had drinks and participated in the Friday Night karaoke. I loved the karaoke crowd here. It wasn't easy to find the song books and the sign up sheets, but that kind of helped add to the communal feel. People gathered around my and my one friend's table to share the books, and I ended up talking to lots of strangers which I think is fun. I even made plans to sing "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" with a karaoke regular. There were just too many people there, though, and we didn't get called for the duet. We got there pretty early (9:45ish) and my friend and I both got to sing twice. There was also an incredible Michael Jackson impersonator complete with moves and Thriller Jacket. He performed twice as well. Great karaoke joint! I'll have to try the food next time.

After returning to Midtown Tavern on several Friday nights over the last year, I can safely say it's a solid spot. Karaoke is a guaranteed good time, with a laidback crowd and a fun group of folks singing: the right mix of those who are actually talented and those who are more performers than singers. Also, must give mad props to the food. The grilled asparagus is absolutely insanely delicious, although I don't feel like you get the right portion for the price. Still, I find myself ordering it, a lot. I've never had a bad meal. One star reserved because I've often had some problems with the mixed drinks being very much on the weak side, with so much ice packed in all you get is about 3 sips out of each glass. So yeah, stick with the beer.

In a location that I'd never randomly pass by, (especially since Piedmont is one way!) sits a mini-block of three restaurants - Midtown Tavern, a restaurant called Rare, and a place called Aloha. Midtown Tavern is definitely a laid-back sports bar/restaurant vibe, there were lots of giant TVs with football, a good number of tables and a mini stage where they have karaoke night. They have a trivia and poker night too. We went on a Saturday night, and it wasn't very busy. Because of this, it makes a good place if you're looking to simply have a drink, actually hear what your friends are saying, and not have drinks spilled on you by random strangers. Parking is kind of funky because of the location, but valet is only $5 and means you don't have to trek over from the bigger lots down the street. We didn't try any food, but they serve a Sunday brunch from noon - 4 pm and also have a late night menu.

The food is amazing service is always good love to grab a drink at the Tavern after work. The Tavern is my neighborhood bar. I've got the chance to eat a lot of food off the menu Midtown Burger, Frog Legs, and Skirt Steak over sweet potatoes amazing. As far as entertainment it's hit or miss.

We went for trivia night and we had 6 people in our party and were charged 20% for tip. We did not have good service. Food was forgotten for at least an hour and beer is kind of expensive.

I definitely had a lot of fun here for karaoke, and that definitely makes this a unique place to come to on a Friday night. The staff is friendly, and the drinks are decently priced. Of course having Photohunt is always a bar essential. When you are located on a one way street and do not have a parking lot other than a post office, complications can occur. There is another lot adjacent to the post office where large trucks park, but sometimes it can be a bit sketchy. I have seen quite a few urban outdoorsmen in the area, but that is pretty normal in this area of the city. I have always had a good time here though. I tried the chicken tenders last time I was in and they were very good and definitely a good portion. I just really wish places like this would get rid of indoor smoking already.

Have you tried the food here?? Just sayin. it's delicious - especially for bar food. Go for the gouda grilled cheese sandwich, that comes complete with granny smith apples. Or, my second favorite... mac and cheese (which I think is also gouda). The place is a great local hangout. Be sure to valet because other Yelpers are right that the 'hood can be a bit scary. Karoake nights can be fun, but they often run waaaayyy to long. So, be warned. But, grab a drink and say Hi to Erin at the bar... she rocks.

I live in the neighborhood of the Midtown Tavern (in fact I can see it from my living room window). When I first moved into my condo in 2006, I found that I had three taverns within two blocks. After trying all three, (The now closed Spotted Dog and O'Terrill's being the others) the Midtown Tavern became the place that I would go to grab a beer, maybe watch a game or play trivia. It has a nice long bar with a decent beer selection and reasonable prices. I found the staff to be friendly and provide good service. In time I started meeting people, joined Yelp and my visits to Midtown Tavern became less and less. Recently that changed as some fellow Yelpers have been bit by the Karaoke bug so I have been back a few time lately. They have recently changed the menu and early returns are positive. The chicken fingers are huge and very moist. They have a couple of old pool tables and a dart board and a large patio out front. The main drawback is that when it gets crowded it is really smokey. This is a three and half star place that I am rounding up to four.

Midtown Tavern to me is a classic neighborhood bar and the type of place where you have a good time and develop memories: karaokeing Macho Man with friends, watching Ivan S. sing Britney Spears and then berate the girl who blocked the driveway in the parking lot, and other stories (who went home with who) that serve as fodder for the "Sewing Circle" as James H. calls it... yeah, good times. Friday night karaoke turns out to be fun even though I'm not really a karaoke kind of person. Service seems pretty good: although I have not relied on the table wait staff, bar service has usually been fast and efficient. I have eaten here once and it was good bar food and others have reported theirs was pretty good (the chicken fingers looked good). Everything seems reasonably priced. One should note that parking sucks: either street parking or in the post office parking lot. So, stop by, join in with the gang, Sewing Circles are always in need of more gossip.

We should have known the evening was going to be bad when we walked over to Midtow Tavern around 10:30 and the bar was virtually empty. We were able to snag a prime table outside while karokee hopefulls belted it out on the stage inside. Anticipating the bar getting more crowded and seeing what the scene was all about, we stuck around and sipped our overpriced beers. I must say, I did not order any food, which seems to be a popular yelp topic and one that gets this place high reviews. After a couple drinks at a bar that never got any more interesting, my friend and I peaced out. The bar being within walking distance was one of the main reasons we tried it out, but let me tell you - DON'T EVER walk to Midtown tavern. On the way home we were asked for money, cat called and solicited for sex by a man dressed as a woman - who got extremely angry when we turned her down. Needless to say, we will not be walking to the Midtown Tavern any time soon, if we ever even go back. What seemed to be a quiet evening of girl talk and drinks quickly spiraled down-hill into us practically jogging in heels down the road. So I must say, if you're ever going to head over to Midtown Tavern, take a car... or just don't go. There are much better places in Atlanta to pay for overpriced beer and bad singing.

Okay, so I have to say, I was not a believer as I arrived/entered/sat down. My father actually dragged me here as we were traveling thru ATL. Well, you know those miserable moments whn your parents give you the "I told you so look". I do too. Cuban was excellent. Get it. Don't get anything else. Not because nothing else is good, because the Cuban is sooo good. We got it with the Gouda ma and cheese which was also excellent. We got one Cuban to split, and after eating my half, I wanted to order another one! So delicious. I was pretty full, but I would have stuffed another half in my belly with no qualms! Im surprised to read so many complaints about the service. Maybe people were here just to drink when it got busy, but for dinner, the service was excellent! Our waitress was sweet and kept checking up on our table and even entertained my dads story about the last time he was here. The bar tender took the time to come over as we entered to tell us they were out of one beer on the menu but they had replaced it with something else. Overall good atmosphere. If it wasn't so divey it would have a 5, but I'd definitely hve to pull some of my more pretentious friends through the door. If I'm ever in ATL again, I'll be back.

Minus the fact that there is hardly any parking, it is a chill spot with a nice big outdoor patio. As the bar for the Central Park Go Kickball league, we tried it out on Wednesday after our game and they were happy to accommodate our large party. They even had the flip cup all ready to go when we got there! I didn't try the food, but the greek salad my friend had looked pretty good. Added bonus - Karaoke Wednesdays should make for some long and eventful Wednesday nights with the kickball team!

Gosh....I wish I did not eat already before coming here! The food looked good coming in and out of the kitchen....I was invited here by a friend for Karaoke night. Not that many people but just right. Therefore, I decided to sing! Lol! Yup...I went on up and got on the mic: Red Neck Women...was my song of choice...I don't know why but I like this song!... it's a nice lil spot to bring friends for some chill-out enjoyment. The drinks were not "well" but "A'Ok"...I do think the bartender could have put a little more Alcohol in your girl drinks but I will live....hahahaha. What was the most funny or let's say interesting part of the night for Karaoke was at intermission the host for the night sung this song about death which I thought was very interesting...more of your hard rock music but the words were WOW! Its karaoke so you reading the teleprompter along with the person that is singing...and WOW! However, yuppie I will be back just for the food! lol...

I love the Midtown Tavern, and really wish more people loved it as much as I do. I know the owner and am a 'regular' there, just thought I should lend my online support here. Their food is WAY better than normal bar food, all the servers are awesome and attentive, and the owner, Doug, is a very cool guy who fiercely loves his bar. If you're looking for a good game of darts, some awesome karaoke, and some kickass food (I recommend the philly with tots or the vegetarian Kym) Midtown Tavern is your place!

A lot of reviews have complained about the food but you gotta step outside your chicken tender comfort zone. The pork belly blt is phenomenal, like bacon on delicious steroids. Skip the fries and go for the smoked Gouda Mac n cheese -- I promise you won't be disappointed! I get a side of it probably once a week. The hanger steak is another of my favorites or any of the daily specials-- empanadas, rhubard compote, fresh veggies, this place will leave you full and happy. Check it out on a night sans karaoke and enjoy the chill neighborhood atmosphere of midtown's best kept secret.

This place is a pretty decent spot to grab a beer for the most part. The crowd can be hit or miss but this is one of those places I come to when I hope it will be a miss so I can just relax and enjoy my beer and watch a game. I haven't really seen this place get packed, even on weekends. If you are just looking to grab a beer with a friend or two it's a pretty good option. For me it's convienient to work and home. I've just had the chicken tenders once and they were rather disappointing. The menu prices are comparable to anywhere else nearby so needless to say you can get better deals in other parts of the city. Sometimes the beer specials are good.

I give this 3 stars only because I had a good time singing along with the Karaoke singers. First of all, we went here because the people we were with wanted to karaoke. It was advertised on their website to start at 8, said 9pm on the sign outside and then actually didn't get underway until 9:45. We tried the only two deserts on the menu and we asked if they were true to their names (Key Lime Pie using real key lime juice and NY Style Cheesecake which should be dense and almost cake like) and sadly even though she said they were, they weren't. Other than that, they allow smoking, which I thought was no longer allowed in establishments any longer in Atlanta. Minus the fun I had singing along with the karaoke singers and this place deserves 2 stars at most.

I went here with a group of friends last wednesday night. It's not the fanciest bar I've ever been to but the drinks were cold, the karaoke was hot, and the place was packed. I did not sample any of the food but my friends ordered some kind of quesadilla & tater tots (neither of which I like) but they said it was mediocre bar food. Overall, I had a good time and would go back for another chill night.

I have to take away one star for Midtown Tavern cancelling their poker night. To respond to the recent review below, smoking is allowed in any Atlanta bar or restaurant, as long as they do not allow children under 18 inside.

It's a neighborhood bar. The food is nothing to scoff at but not spectacular, either. I'm a vegetarian and there is not much on their menu - to me, a true gastropub has nearly equal meat vs non-meat menu items, since anyone can make meat taste good. It's a much different story to produce a non-meat entree that gains respect from the daily crowd. I have their hummus almost every time I'm there, and the only thing I have to say about it is that it's inconsistent. Sometimes it's runny and sometimes it's so dry I'm begging for them to bring me olive oil to thin it out. The beer selection is fine and they do pitchers. They hosted the "drinking club with a running problem" after the Peachtree Pub Crawl last year. My only complaint with that may be due to a miscommunication - there was no vegetarian food provided, so I ended up with the hummus yet again. How I wish there was something non-fried on the menu besides hummus! Parking is atrocious. If you go during dinner/after 5pm you can park at the post office on Piedmont... I have no idea what the other options are, but there aren't many.

Part of what i like about Midtown Tavern is that one definitely gets the impression that it didn't quite know which direction to go. You can play darts and there are 2 pool tables that are usually in use, and there are TVs galore to catch your game of choice (they even have ESPNU, which is oh so vital in college basketball season). On different nights they have trivia, poker, karaoke, and live performances. What really throws me off is the disco ball. I've never seen it in use, but it's there. The food is surprisingly good. They have the bar standards, some fancier items, and a few unusual ones like an ostrich burger. Worth a shot if you're in the area.

I've driven by here more times than I can count and never once thought to stop in and check it out. No clue why, so last night when the invite came to meet the crew for karaoke, I had no idea where Midtown Tavern was for a second, then a light bulb clicked on. Headed on over after some beer at Red Brick to get an early seat and eat. The parking here blows. Seriously, and mainly because there is no parking. The lady and I parked across the street at Publix, seemed like it would be ok and there's plenty of room there, I thought about the Post Office next door but you never know with downtown what lots are off limits. There's a sizable deck out front with plenty of seating, looks to be good for a nice Fall afternoon but was too hot last night, so we went on in. Inside the place is bigger than it looks outside, there's a long bar that stretches nearly the length of the building on the left, tables and seating fill the rest besides a small room to each side, one with restrooms, the other with a pool table. We sat at the bar at first since we were early and ordered up stuff. The beers available on draft is a short list but a good variety, bottle list is slightly larger and again a nice mix. The bartender, who was really cute, was very friendly and eager to answer any questions we had, it wasn't busy yet but it was clear she would stay on top of her game later on. Food menu is pretty good sized with numerous types and portions, we both ordered burgers, mine plain and cooked medium, hers medium well with all the fixings. The fries sounded good but I was concerned about the peanut oil they use (some types I'm allergic too) so I got mac n cheese instead. It came out in a timely manner and looked great, and after biting in I determined it was great. The burgers were cooked exactly to order even though they were pretty thick, usually a place will overdo it with such a big piece of meat but they were dead on and very good. I ate a few fries just to taste and loved them, crisp and fresh, not soggy like most fries anywhere else, and the mac n cheese was delicious. A++ here. We stayed until a little after 1AM singing or singing along with whoever was on stage and had a blast. Our server at the table kept up with our big group as well as a few others and wasn't ever a moment away at any time, very pleasant and eager to keep us with full glasses. Overall I was very pleased and will certainly go back.

This is a pretty nice bar with pool, darts, outdoor patio, live music and nice staff, although probably not the best location. Not really close to much else... except my apartment so you'll probably find me here often regardless. I went here for the first time last Saturday night and was surprised to find it mostly empty. It's a pretty big place, so maybe there were more people there than it seemed, but for a Saturday night with live music (a funk and soul cover band which was actually pretty fun) it was pretty dead. Me and my friend just played some darts and had some drinks, which was fine, but if you're looking for a wild night out this definitely isn't the place to go - more of a chill kind of place.

Midtown Tavern has been a favorite hangout for my friends and me for quite a while now, probably close to two years. It's perfect any night of the week for a low-key drinking, pool playing, sports-watching kind of night. I enjoy it because it's not so loud I have to keep repeating myself and saying "I'm sorry, what?" The food is delicious - I've had most everything on the menu at this point, and I'm never disappointed. They also serve good key lime pie for dessert. If they're out of key lime pie, sometimes they will make you a very delicious key lime pie shot to make up for it. Parking is obnoxious, but usually you can find parking on the street or in the post office lot next door. The thought of parking here doesn't usually turn me off from coming, so that's a good sign. I don't see my days at Midtown Tavern ending anytime soon.

Beers and drinks and darts and karaoke and pool, OH MY! This should not have been a Wednesday night destination if we were going to drink like it was Friday, but it was what it was (and we all suffered after, but hey, what can ya do? it was so worth it). Good stiff drinks, friendly bartender (he even made someone run out and get us a nicer set of darts when we wanted to play, which we politely declined as we were pretty sure we were going to spend more time hitting the wall than the board, and so it was), good shots, and the rest is a fuzzy blurry mystery of looooooveeeee

UNAUTHORIZED GRATUITY ADDED. Be careful! I ate at Midtown Tavern this past weekend, after the charge processed on my bank account I noticed that the waitress had ADDED $5 more to the amount I authorized. I have the customer copy of the receipt showing the amount that I tipped and total amount authorized. I filed a claim with my bank, reported the fraud to the police, and notified management. BE WARNED!

Visiting Atlanta and felt like a pub meal. I walked from my hotel to Midtown Tavern - mistake to walk (not the nicest neighborhood), but what a find! Very unusual menu for a pub, but really great food and good beer. I liked the people that worked there - good friendly service. I had the nachos. Expected "nachos". Got something very creative, and amazingly wonderful. I will crave those things in my sleep. Very fresh food, terrific sauces, avacado, marinated meat, wonderful cheese. Nothing like anything I have every had anywhere, and truly delicious food. I highly recommend this place.

I love coming here to eat the food! I think it's really good food for a bar place. Usually I park across the street at the Publix and walk over. I absolutely love the Midtown burger, which looks small, but it's really good. Just order it with some appetizers like the chicken fingers which are tender and soft or the buttermilk frog legs which are also really good! They used to have some good hot wings which was taken off the menu. But if you haven't tried the food here, you definitely should! :)

Nice little place within walking distance of my place. Not too fancy, but you don't get the feeling you'll contract an infection by sitting down either. The food is alright, beer selection ok, service has always been good. There's a couple of coin-operated pool tables and they provide cues. It's a good place to throw back a few and relax, maybe shoot a couple games of pool. They have the NFL package and usually show the Falcons game (with sound) on the big screen on Sundays but it's not exactly a sports bar per se. Karaoke night (Wednesday) was packed the one time I went. But other weekend nights you can slip in there and pretty much have the place to yourself. There's also a small seating area outside but I don't think I've ever seen anyone out there.

This place reminds me a bit of my great uncle's tavern near Midway airport in Chicago back in the '80s--except for the clientele here is more of the downtown foppish type (duh) and the food is the tiniest bit adjusted to the taste one might expect of that crowd. Also, you would not have found a Karoake stage at Uncle Paul's. Smoking is A-ok here. (Maybe that is common here Atlanta, I dunno.) The burger I had was good but a little rare for ordering it "medium." The best thing was the whiskey selection, which was still only pretty good but not amazing. Bottom line: I just paid 20 bucks plus tip for a 15 dollar burger and beer combo.

2 words.....Chicken fingers....well, and beer too....I live near here and I love to go and grab a quick beer and quick bite from here, its awesome. The portions are giantic. Crowd is a little hit and miss at time but oh well. And the prices are pretty cheap too.

OK. This place totally depends on what you are looking for. If you want football, there is NO BETTER PLACE. I know, the super bowl just finished, so this portion of the review will not mean anything for another 9 months, but I watched the SB there, and it was awesome. I watch my BEARS play every week here if they are not on TV. Lots of fans from all kinds of teams. Basically, just tell them what you want on the TV in front of you and they put it on. BTW, Tampa fans suck. The FOOD is phenom for the kind of bar this is. Really!!! Awesome!!! You walk in expecting plain, ordinary fare, but their food is the BEST for this kind of "blue collar" establishment. Awesome. Tater tots are the best in the city. Better than Vortex for sure. All of their vegetarian fare is fantastic. As for the meat treats, I cannot comment, but the carnivores seem to like it. Beer specials are OK. Staff is super friendly. Awesome dart boards and a couple of pool tables. Not a a meat market or pick-up place. Player free environment. I worry that they aren't getting the support they should b/c they are slightly south of Midtown proper, but they are a great "people's" bar! Also, I understand that Ivan likes to sing Madonna songs here (not sure if that's a positive).

I just moved to the city/neighborhood and Midtown Tavern was one of the first places I went to. It's right down the street from me. My parents and I went for a late lunch and some beers. The atmosphere was fun, the food was delicious - I had the black bean burger and sweet potato fries, and our server was super sweet. She had some beer suggestions and was very friendly! We stayed and played some pool after lunch. The patio is huge and dog friendly, so I plan on bringing my dog when the weather gets cooler. I think I found my go-to bar! I need to check out the karaoke nights! I know they JUST got new owners and new staff, so that could explain the bad reviews from a few months ago. I highly recommend this place!

I have liked this place for a long time but i think this is goint to be my last visit. The bar is usually decent, but today we have decided to sit and actually get food. We have waited for 30 mins to get our drinks, and over an hour and a half to get sub-par food without forks, knives or napkins. The burger was way below average for the price, and the fries were cold and soggy. I really do not recommend coming here if you are going to eat.

The worst experience I've ever had in my life! First and last time ever visiting this place. Where do I even begin, long story short... Went for a friends birthday to do karaoke. Had 2 bartenders harass me as I stood by the bar. One continuously yelled at me that in order to be there I had to get something at the bar (I was the DD for the night) so I asked for water and she told me they did not have water. She then suggested the black crowd next door would better suit me. A waitress was sent over to our table to tell my friend she had to order something, but she was pregnant and could not drink. She ordered water, which they miraculously had. The waitress came back to tell my friend that she had to order a drink and could not just have water. I went to the restroom and employees turned the lights on and off as I was in there (another person came in and the lights stayed on the entire time until she left then flickered on and off once she exited the restroom). To end off the night from hell, the same bartender who harassed me all night as I kept my composure proceeded to follow me out to my next destination to continue harassing me. The WORST experience of my life! **Patronize at your own risk**

The service was incredibly slow. There was a festival near by that should have been obvious to the staff to staff the bar accordingly. The few bartenders working conversed only with the patrons that were buying them shots. It took at least 30 minutes if not longer to buy a drink. The only way we were able to aquire the attention of the bartenders was by asking a waitress. They threw a lime at the conversing bartenders to get our tab. Acquiring our tab took an additional 30 minutes. An awful experience. We will not be back.

Last time I went a couple of weeks ago some stuff happened here that makes me think that I never want to go back. Parking has always been a problem; and this neighborhood seems to have a lot of homeless, drug addicts and panhandlers roaming around. Most / all of the apartment complexes nearby are gated with high fences. Your parking choices are metered spots on the street next to the bar, or parking in a lousy unattended & shoddily paved lot several yards away (next the post office) or you can take your chances and park in the public shopping center lot across the street (which you are not really allowed to do/ you risk getting booted or towed). I usually park in the lousy / unattended lot next to the post office. Last time I did that I noticed, while walking over to the bar, a sketchy looking dude loitering on the sidewalk next to the metered parking spots (on the street next to the bar). As I made my way up the steps of the deck near the bars entrance, I heard a car alarm go off. I next saw that the sketchy guy was gone but the car that he was standing nearest to had been busted into; there was a shattered window and the alarm was blaring. I went in the bar and told the bartender what had happened. A guy seated at the bar asked me what color the car was and when I told him, he ran out of the restaurant like a bat out of hell (since he somehow knew that it was his car that got struck). Luckily for him it was only a rental car and all his valuables were in the locked trunk. My friend and I ordered beer and food. The beer came right away but the food never arrived. We kept asking about our food order and our waitress eventually admitted that she hat forgotten to put our order in (and several large tables came in after us). So our food orders were way (way, way back) in the back of a very long food order line. And the kitchen was understaffed and not able to handle the large volume that day. After about an hour and 20 minutes transpired, I canceled my food order, paid for my beer and left. Before leaving (when I was paying for the beer) I told the waitress that the food mishap was not her fault. But it was likely was her fault for not getting the food order in right away. I do think it was mostly the management's fault for not being adequately staffed in the kitchen at that time of the day. Perhaps deserves 2.5 stars, but I will round down to two stars due to the bad stuff that happened that day (and has happened before in past visits).

My bf and his co-workers come here on Thursdays and love it late-night. I finally got a Thursday off and joined them after their shift. It's a cool spot, I had a Jack cider beer and the boys had a few rounds of Jameson. I like the corn hole outside and the patio seating. I brought our dog Blue with me and our server brought him a bowl of water which is always appreciated. We ordered Nachos which were probably some of the best I've ever had. Crunchy, cheesy, smothered in chunks of tomato, chicken, onions and a dollop of sour cream on top. The sour cream, oh my lawd y'all! It had a tangy citrus flavor, and I read that it's their signature Cilantro-Lime sour cream. Holy yum. It was so crispy, never got soggy or mushy. $12 Delicious! We also ordered Buttermilk Chicken tenders and they were pretty good! The breading was a little loose (typical for from-scratch recipes) but they had good flavor and the chicken was really juicy. $7 I was very pleased with the food and we ordered around 10:20 so the kitchen must be open late, such a perk! I want to come back next Thursday and try the Warm Salad with hangar steak, arugula and goat cheese ($14). It was highly recommended but I was craving unhealthy grease so my gut won the battle tonight. I want to give it 3 stars bc the inside is such a dive.. Kind of like a warehouse with tvs and a big bar. But good lord almighty that sour cream is the shit! Check this place out! They have a TV outside, pool tables & darts inside and friendly bartenders. Cool joint

I came last Saturday and they had Kareoke night. The MC was a friendly guy. Since it wasn't overcrowded, I was able to sing three songs that night. The atmosphere was chill, the patrons were a diverse crowd (25-40yrs old), and the staff was friendly. The nachos were ok nothing out of the ordinary and the buffalo wings were delicious. I had a good time and will visit again.

Yes, a rapid update. I just watched Erin handle a really distasteful (and new) crowd with aplomb while making it clear to the regulars what's going on. Impressive and *exactly* what you want from a neighborhood joint. Midtown is a local joint. *Local*. Seriously local. But makes everyone feel at home, even if you're boorish. I feel badly not giving other local establishments a similar chance, but I don't go out much. Midtown is comfy and large enough that I can sit away from the smoke.

Best-quality Karaoke. Quality as in "the people here can ACTUALLY sing.. like, REALLY freaking good". .... It was "best-quality" until we rolled around. Sorry Midtown Tavern. I'm tone-deaf. It took me about 2 pints of pure vodka at pre-game ("a splash of sprite, please"), plus another 2-4 vodka drinks here, but I eventually stood up (with 2 other ladies) to passionately sing "Tearing up my Heart" by NSync. No panties were thrown on stage, but people seemed to be entertained. Who doesn't love 3 hot drunk girls after all? I like it here. Super extra props for the U of Michigan and MSU school flags, it made me feel at home :)

This place has changed recently - and not for the better. Gone are the old owners, personable bartenders, better-than average bar food and Michigan sports team banners (somehow a framed Gordy Howe photo still sits by a high top, but who knows for how long - I doubt the people that now operate this establishment know or appreciate Mr. Hockey). Midtown Tavern is a shell of its former self (which I would have awarded 4 stars, at least). Where to start? The new owners have stripped this place of any charm. The new bartender I've encountered on my past few trips has a non-existent personality, only interested in bringing drinks and taking my food order. It's cool, I don't look to be BFF's with my bartender, but questions I had were responded to very flatly. When my boyfriend asked about the old decor and mentioned it was one of the elements that drew him to this bar when he moved to Atlanta five years ago, it was met with an "mmhmmm - would you like another drink?" Alrighty! As was noted earlier, the food here used to be pretty sweet - the southern belle sandwich may have been my favorite item on the menu...grilled chicken (quite possibly the most boring thing to order on most menus - but not here), tillamook cheddar, house-cured ham, a grainy mustard sauce, arugula and a spicy pepper relish. There were falafels, cheesesteaks, pork belly BLTs, salads with goat cheese. Yeah, you're not going to find anything on this menu that can hold a candle to that. They're now serving up bland bar food at best that might as well have come off a Sodexo truck (it probably does), not worthy of the price points which haven't shifted to reflect the downgrade in quality ingredients. The kitchen's only saving grace is that all dressings, ketchup included, are still made in-house. Too bad I don't go to a bar to eat condiments. Yes, they will still have NFL Sunday ticket and "all the sports," per the new staff. Yes, they will still serve booze and have drink specials - cool. Yes, they will still have karaoke for those who like that kind of thing. Yes, the women's restroom is still gross, with the floor in the handicap stall virtually pushing up from below (how is this meeting code?). Yes, you can find a better bar.

Service was awful. Took the bartender 10 minutes to take my drink order with only two other people in the restaurant. The food and beer was over priced...I get it, it's midtown but they're more expensive than a lot of places in this area. I don't think I'll be going back anytime soon.

This place is my new favorite in Atlanta! The deck is great and inside is the perfect neighborhood bar with pool and darts. The crew is super friendly and their is usually an interesting crowd there. As far as the food is concerned its some of the best I've had in Atlanta! Everything I have tried there is incredible... not the typical bar food you'd expect. The grilled edamame is the best I've ever had. Their sandwiches and burgers are sheer perfection and the jerk chicken is excellent. Everything is reasonably priced as well and they have their full menu late night. Definitely a must if you are in midtown!

You know what? I haven't written in a while and I am now compelled to do so. In my time away from Yelp, I have spent countless dollars at every new and hip-booty cool, Top Chef establishment from downtown to Alpharetta (well, not that far, but stay with me). Everying has been meh. Maybe I'm over the hype and mustaches and weird beards and skinny pants on tubby men. I dunno. Meh. At the end of the day, you know what counts? Service, DECENT grub and a comfy atmosphere. Please challenge that theory. I would rather walk into a dive bar, have great wings, a gal that remembers my beer and effin' PEACE. Sure, the hip places will fill, but folks are fickle so good luck with longevity. Don't get me wrong, I still like paying too much for food and valet parking and wearing heels that mash my bunions so I won't embarrass pals at Umi. I say all that to say that in my two years in Atlanta, Midtown Tavern has remained a constant. Moreso, Christy has remained a constant. In the abyss between Downtown and Midtown, this place somehow avoids seedlings that stray from Pine Street. I have long enjoyed their awesome deck, free wi-fi and meeting cool locals. Many intramural teams meet here after games, so it has a wholesome edge. I have eaten the food and enjoyed it, too. BUT, I ain't expecting Canoe either. The comfort is knowing that if I am not 100% having the experience I long for, Christy knows and changes it all. EVERYONE knows her and likely returns because of her. It's rare that I am not able to kick back here with good beer and no drama. Come as you is. It's all relative. This ain't for everyone, but it's great for me and all the others that keep the good stuff secret. OH-THEY ARE NOW NON -SMOKING!!! Good for some (MEEEEE!) sad for others, but there is always the big deck. Pup friendly, too.

Great late night spot and the kitchen is open late! The food is good, as it is prepared in house, including the condiments! *No microwave here* I have had several items from the menu. The Southern Gentleman is an excellent burger (Pimento Cheese-stuffed Burger, Bacon & Chow Chow). Other great menu items: Pork Belly Blt - great! Buttermilk fried chicken tenders - excellent! The bartenders are great. There are some specialty drinks here. As well as a wide selection of beers! There is limited street parking and the lot adjacent to USPS belongs to Midtown Tavern. FYI: There are usually people on the corner who may try to hustle you for money. For the most part they are harmless and may tell you they are looking out for your car.

When you walk into the Midtown Tavern the thick musky scent of generations of smokers and sex animals greets you. It is cut on Friday nights only by the audible hum of Atlanta's finest undiscovered talent. Yes, all of the South's best musical talent from TI to the Jackson Five have cut their teeth here. The laminated folds of songs are stuck together, no doubt, from over eager gentlemen excited for their debit on the big stage. Yes, this is the home of original music. Ignore the pool table and day games which are set to distract those who are melodically challenged or hard on the eyes. It's like commuting social suicide to hang out there. Find a short to front and put your name and song in to gain street cred with Atlanta's finest. You won't regret it!

New amazing chef at the tavern ... Chicken tenders are amazing. Perfectly seasoned, as good - if not better - than chickfila. You have to try them and the collard greens just as good as my Grandy's southern recipe.

The place needs to be cleaned up from the moment you walk in the smell is just over powering, and not in a good way. We were asked for money by the local homeless people twice before we got to the steps leading up to the bar. The food was awful. The soup tasted like who ever cooked it drop a salt shaker in it, my wife ordered a simple grill cheese and it was cold and rock hard by the time it got to our table. The Drinks we're ok and the service was fine. When the bill came we were all in shock. Four drinks two salads a grill cheese and a hamburger 80 dollars. Sorry for that I will stay in bulkhead and not travel to the midtown tavern again.

Don't come here for the food. This is my first visit here, and maybe they're having an off day, but this has been one of the worst dining experiences I've had in Atlanta. I ordered a salad, and they didn't have cucumber or apparently ranch since it tasted like they'd tried to make it (unsuccessfully) out of sour cream. The grilled chicken was the only thing I ate. It also didn't come with the spinach listed on the menu. My friend ordered the CBLT and was told they might have the bread but they'd sent someone to the store. It also didn't come with the aioli that was listed on the menu and tasted so terrible (she got oil instead of aioli) it couldn't be finished. The mac and cheese was passable as a side. Our server said he was the only person working besides the cook, and I'm not sure why. He was pleasant and I don't blame him for the terrible food, and when we talked to him about it he took money off the check. The place is really cool, and it has free pool and cold beer. So, I'd absolutely come here to hang out on their amazing dog-friendly patio. But definitely eat before you come.

Was at the hospital and decided to get out and get some decent food nearby. Found this spot via yelp based off the good food reviews. Looks like a divey local pub with your standard darts, pool tables and karaoke setup and full of locals on a Sunday evening. This area always has various miscreants and bums around on the street at all times of the day due to the nearby mission and rehab center a block away. Walked in and no one was at the door and I did not see any signage about seating. Hung around the door for a few minutes and then I sat myself at an empty table. Waited about 30 minutes, no one greeted me or offered me a menu or drink. I am sure that the food here is tasty but you won't get served or approached by the staff. I think I agree with some of the other reviewers who say that this establishment may have a staffing problem. This is a spot for locals who want a place to hang out and don't mind waiting a long time for everything.

This place is a little more dive-y than I expected. I met some people for drinks here on a Monday evening, but the experience wasn't bad. Waiter checked up on us at good times without being bothersome. Also, it wasn't too crowded that we could play darts. I didn't get a chance to try out the food, but I would definitely come back to do so now that I've read other reviews on this place. I still stand on my 3 stars. For now. I parked at the post office when I turned in. There was plenty of empty street parking in retrospect. Still annoying to get hassled by two guys within 100 feet of the pub.

They advertise being open till 3am on their website but are only open till 2am. Due to this their staff will be extremely rude if you over stay your welcome. They do last call at time of closing which i do believe is against the Law. If you are not a "regular/local" to this bar you will be treated with disrespect. The regulars seem to have special privileges which allow them to continue to buy drinks and stay past closing time. I've been trying to like this place now for a year since I live in the apartment building right next to the bar but consistently this place has been below par. The bartender Erica can be extremely unpleasant at times and will openly admit that it is because she has been having a bad day. Not saying that the staff is racist but the group I normally come with is well diverse in ethnicity and I have found that when I am their with all white patroons that the service is much better. I will no longer return to this establishment which is regrettable because their menu is fairly decent and fairly priced.

This place is loaded up with banners of Michigan teams. You would think it would be good spot to watch Det Lions. I went here week 1 of NFL there was about 10 people and the bar tender refused to turn the Lions game on. Take the banners down they belong at Reggies

Last night was my second time at Midtown, first time for karyoke (for the record, no I did not sing). It was pretty busy but not crazy... I would say the karyoke was a nice backdrop for the night but the talent wasn't exactly over the top. There were a few drunk people that dominated the playlist who I could've lived without (by 11 p.m. the karyoke guy said he couldn't accept any more requests...really? ban the same people from singing 10 songs instead, eh?) We were celebrating a friend's birthday and it was nice because the setup here is perfect for large and small groups to hunker down for the night. It was actually the perfect night to sit outside -- and there was plenty of seating out there. When I arrived around 10 p.m. there were still several seats open at the bar. The bartenders were awesome, the woman who served us took great care of us (thanks for the very cool Makers Mark glass!! :)). The drinks were strong and pretty reasonable. I didn't try any food but saw the special served to someone at the bar and it looked tasty with nice presentation. I could see how parking would be a pain on a very busy night, but we managed to score the last spot in the Post Office lot, plus there was another lot right next to it and Publix across the street.

Went here for Karaoke the Friday before last for a friend's birthday WEEK... it was a blast, service was great and my tab wasn't bad... completely forgot about my scoutmob... twice!!! I am going back so it's alright as far as that goes. Okay.... torrential rain... rivers I am talking, running down Lindon Ave... and a birthday girl that would refuse to get out of the car and under an umbrella that I WAS HOLDING FOR HER LETTING MY BACK GET SOAKED... but I digress.... We get into the Tavern, get a table up close (and add another, we got peeps coming) I ordered the pizza special and it was tasty. A friend ordered the $5 milkshake ohsmygods... so nom... there's, like, whiskey in it... I had the Cabernet which was pretty decent for $5 a glass We sang a lot, we danced while people sang, we sang along to other people singing... we had THE FUN. And as a bonus, a very adorable guy, that I danced half a song with (Ms. Houston's "I want to dance with somebody" - so how could I not) gave me his number on his way out... so I have to love the place... right?

Looking for a good local, standard "neighborhood bar"? Midtown Tavern could be a contender. The pork belly BLT is phenomenal, as is the Gouda mac-n-cheese -- pretty good stuff for bar food. My only qualm with the bar was that my mint julep was extremely week and was not cheap (so I jumped over to $3 pints). The place is full of regulars who all know each other by name and aren't bashful about introducing themselves to you. Not sure if I'll become one of the regulars due to the costly-and-week cocktails, but it was nice that the atmosphere seemed so welcoming. Be sure to play a game of pool -- and try not to have your girlfriend beat you... :D

Man, I've been giving lots of 4s lately. Anywho, this place is pretty cool. It's one of my neighborhood bars and we go there from time to time to hang out or eat dinner. I haven't had the pleasure of being there during karaoke, but I'm sure it's a blast. The folks there are pretty laidback. You can tell the regulars and that's always cool. We used to play pool and darts here frequently, but we haven't done that for awhile. Speaking of games, they also have some board and card games now. I was too full to play Uno the last time we were there, but best believe I'm gonna get a fun group of people to play with me while I gnaw on a frog leg. Yes, they are on the menu. Their food is pretty good. For the past couple of years, it's changed a few times as I was told that they changed chefs. But, the quality is still there, so I can't complain. I don't think I've ordered anything stronger than Coke here, so I can't really comment on the alcohol at the bar. The last time we went, I used a Scoutmob instead of my usual 15% card for being a local diner or whatever it says. Unlike my last experience with Top FLR, the waiter was a dear instead of a dick when I told him that I had one. He was serving the inside and the full patio so I wasn't irritated with him when he wasn't waiting on my beck and call. That being said, he was pretty attentive once he figured out that we wanted food and wasn't there just for the live band. I ordered Fish and chips (phenom!) and my bf ordered the "Southern Gentleman". We were both happy with our choices and will definitely be back.

When I think of Midtown Tavern, I think of karaoke. On the weekends, this place can get packed and the wait to get on stage to sing can be quite long. No matter how good or how bad you sing, people always seem to cheer you on. The tavern is pretty much your typical intown dive bar with pool tables, dart boards, TVs, and the karaoke stage, of course. Smoking is allowed in here, so those people who are sensitive to cigarette smoke should stay away from this place. I've been here when it's quite smokey. The bar's menu features all of your typical pub fare, but there were a few items which caught my eye. These included the frog legs with Thai chili, grilled edamame (grilled soybeans), and falafel sandwich with tzatziki sauce. Instead of choosing one of those items, I decided to go all-American and ordered their $11.50 Southern Gentlemen burger which contains pimento cheese and green tomato chow-chow. The pimento cheese is stuffed inside of the meat, which creates an interesting flavor. Chow-chow is just pickled relish. I remember it being sold in cafeterias in North Carolina. The burger had a little bit of a kick to it and turned out decent. Since the bar was slammed, service was slow. The servers were friendly and did the best they could given the size of the crowd. Midtown Tavern is located just one block south of the intersection of North Ave. and Piedmont. As other Yelpers have mentioned in their reviews, parking can be a pain when the adjacent post office parking lot is full. The only other options are to park on the small side street in between or in the parking lot of the shopping center with Publix across the street. I'm not sure if you're really allowed to park in that lot for the tavern, but I've done it once and didn't have a problem. #Yelp365 - 35/365

Eek. What a disaster. Came here with a group of 5 for trivia last night. We arrived 30 minutes prior to the start of the game, looking to secure a table. This place is so small that we ended up having to sit outside. We were fine with that, as it was a lovely night and they had a speaker on their patio that allowed us to hear the trivia questions. However, it took us FOREVER to get service. So long, in fact, that we named our trivia team "We need beer outside" as to try and get some attention. Our waitress finally arrives (probably 20 minutes after we sat down), only to shoot down my first request with "we're out of Blue Moon." Ok... chose another beer. For food I ordered the Southern Gentleman - a burger stuffed with pimento cheese, and topped with bacon and chowchow. Sounds good, right? Here's what I actually received (later than the rest of the party, because mine apparently "fell apart" on the grill and had to be remade - fine, whatever): a burger, topped with some type of cheese (not pimento) and bacon. I was so confused that I thought I must've ordered the wrong thing. I was also starving so I just ate it. I got the smoked gouda mac and cheese as my side, and it was nothing special, nor did it taste like smoked gouda. More like the stuff in the blue box. The rest of my party had food that ranged from "ok" (fish and chips) to "had-to-send-it-back" (nachos that were stale and tasted horrible). I don't normally consider myself to be picky, but I do expect the food to come out as described on the menu (silly me) Then the bill came. All of it together on one tab, and no offer to split. My enterprising boyfriend took matters into our own hands by marking a 1, 2 or 3 next to each item on the bill and then color coding each number to match our individual debit cards. Good idea, right? But still stupid as shit that we had to do it ourselves. The icing on the cake was when we received our card receipts with an automatic gratuity added - incorrectly. She had taken the total from the group and charged the tip to it, and then divided it up between us in some convoluted manner that had 1 person paying nearly 30% of their bill in tip, and the rest of us were closer to 20% - but the amounts still weren't equal. She was lucky that she got that auto-tip, because she was about to get a measly 15% for that crappy service and food. Needless to say, we didn't add any tip, but we did pay the bill and hightailed it out of there. I suppose the location gets them a lot of business, so maybe they don't have to have good service or food, or even serve the correct food from the menu. But I most certainly don't have to go there.

Midtown Tavern has the BEST Fish & Chips I've yet to have anywhere else. I go here just for this. The service here is good and when I went on Cinco de Mayo, I had a really good Mojito, it was a special for the holiday. I've also been here during the trivia night and that's pretty enjoyable also. I can't wait to return for the Fish & Chips!

It is funny I have lived within walking distance of this place for 4 years and never been. Probably because I am not much of a bar fly and I hate cigarette smoke. This place is really big on the inside so maybe the smoke would not be bad but we sat on the patio during the day so it was a non issue. I had looked at the menu before hand and I was excited to see the chef took a natural approach to the food, using fresh natural ingredients. Our servers name was Erin and she was very friendly. I had the pork belly BLT and he had the Midtown burger add bacon and we added a side of mac n cheese after reading the yelp reviews. We were the only ones there so I figured the food would take a while and i would say it took the appropriate amount, not too fast or slow. I was so hungry when the food came and it looked great. the taste did not disappoint. The pork belly was a nice thickness and the lettuce and tomato were fresh, do you know how hard it is to get fresh tomatoes at a restaurant? The herb mayo was a perfect compliment to the salty pork belly. I am pretty sure i was making homer simpson noises as i ate. my mans burger also looked fresh and he was nice enough to give me a bite and it tasted right off the grill like it came from a backyard party. The fries were hot and also fresh and YUMMY. And get this, the ketchup was HOMEMADE! at a bar! The mac n cheese was also very yummy, a little satly, but still delicious. Over all, i was very please with the quality here. I cannot speak to the bar aspect or the karaoke just the yummy food i had. Also we came armed with a scoutmob so it was extra great. And one more thing. i read a review saying NO NOT WALK here. Like i said I live within walking distance and I walk almost everyday in this neighborhood. There are some bums who live in the parks here but whatever. I have never felt like i was in danger. Just be aware of your surrounding like you would and should be anytime and you will be fine.

I've lived within walking distance of Midtown Tavern for over a year and finally decided to give it a try this weekend after purchasing a reduced price dining certificate through restaurant.com . My overall experience was a reasonable one, but I don't foresee my self returning here for anything more than drinks on the patio. Food: As can be inferred from its name, Midtown Tavern is a bar. However, they do serve a decent selection of pub fare, which was the sole reason for my first visit. To start, we opted for the roast pork nachos, which were served with pico de gallo and havarti and cilantro lime sour cream; the nachos were by no means the best I've had, but about what I would expect from a standard tavern menu. For an entree, I opted for the pork belly BLT; the sandwich was enjoyable and the serving of pork belly was incredibly generous. I also ordered a side of gouda mac n' cheese, which proved underwhelming; the cheese just wasn't the right consistency or flavor. Service: Our waitress was incredibly friendly and accommodating, even though we had a coupon; I typically experience lackluster service in restaurants that require you to present any coupons prior to ordering, even though I always tip generously on the original receipt amount. In the end, my only complaint with the service was the long wait; it appeared that we were the only table in the bar ordering food, so it wasn't readily apparent why there was such a delay. Atmosphere: Midtown tavern is seemingly small from the exterior, but the interior is actually quite expansive, complete with a karaoke stage. They also have a large pet-friendly patio out front with ample seating. Most clientele are clearly regulars, but I didn't feel out of place among them. Cost: Moderately priced. Appetizers are $5 to $12, sandwiches are $8 to $12, and entrees are$10 to $15. Other: Midtown Tavern restricts admittance to patrons 21 years of age or older; thus, smoking is allowed indoors. During my early evening visit, there were plenty of people that decided to take full advantage of this opportunity once we were already seated. Had I known from the beginning that smoking was allowed, I would have sat outside. There's no circulation in this place; therefore, expect to leave with nothing short of smoke-infested clothes and lungs.

Love this place, especially since it's right across the street from my apartment :) This is really more of a dive bar, but it's fun place to get some drinks with friends. On top of being a good bar, they have amazing food! The first time my boyfriend and I went, we got the sausage and cheese plate that was a special and it was delicious. The chef even came out to talk to us and mentioned that they make their own sausage. That was impressive for a regular bar. Later on in the night, my boyfriend ordered the frog legs and I got to try some. It was my first time eating them and they were actually really good! I went last night for St. Patrick's Day and it was surprisingly not that crowded. I ordered the grilled cheese which has havarti and sliced apples. At first, I was a little wary of the apples, but the saltiness of the cheese along with the sweetness from the apples was a great combo. They really know what they're doing at this place and I will continue to go back as long as I live here!

Fuck, I don't know. Midtown Tavern has some solid gastropub fare. But at the same time, the menu is nothing special, the prices are perhaps a little high, and the pub itself is not particularly memorable. Pretty much the definition of three stars. I went with the Midtown Burger ($10), while my dining partner went with the Cuban Sandwich ($11). My burger wasn't bad: a decent grind of beef formed into a thick patty, piled high with toppings, on a solid bun, possibly sourced from H&F Bread. The rest of the menu is mostly the usual -- soups and salads, pizza ($8.50-$11.50), fish and chips ($13.50), and so on -- along with just a few more interesting offerings such as the frog legs appetizer ($8) and the alcoholic milkshakes ($7). The interior is pleasant and familiar, with lots of seating, a long, wooden bar, and a small stage area in the back. There's also a decent amount of outdoor seating out front, which can be nice, since this part of Piedmont Avenue isn't too busy in the evenings, and the patio itself is raised up from the street a bit.

I went to Midtown Tavern last night for its karaoke night, and I gotta tell you - I loved it and I didn't even sing! (Next time I will, I promise!) I went with a couple of friends (one who had been to karaoke night before). I got there around 10PM, so the street parking wasn't a problem. My friends were able to park at the post office across the street. I had a serving of the french fries and yum, yum, yum! They're seasoned with something tangy like malt vinegar and they taste great. I had basic vodka & tonics because although they have a full bar, they were out of a couple of liquors I like for mixed drinks. As this is a tavern, beer is the standard drink-of-choice here. The crowd was a mixed bag and everyone was getting along. There was great positive energy in the air with people clapping even for the most wretched of singers - one of whom had such a high-pitched squeak my ears hurt. I'd had a couple of songs in mind to sing, but they weren't in the song list. (Am I the only person who thinks Sara Bareilles' Love Song would be great for karaoke?????) The only non-fun part was the service. The server had a sweet personality- he never seemed frazzled by the number of people. I guess he's used to working several full tables all by his lonesome. But he did require chasing down to get another drink, get the check, and pay the check. Chasing down a server is somewhat annoying, but everyone seemed to be a good sport about it. I'd been worried about the smoke, but last night wasn't bad. I think it probably depends on the crowd who comes in and this place is big enough to move if the smoke gets unbearable. There are also pool tables in the front the building if a person wants to get away from the smoky tables. I'm surely going back for Wednesday night karaoke soon and will make my stage debut. Hope to see you there!

I am shocked. VERY SHOCKED. I expected eh bar food. We used zifty and it STILL was awesome. I wanted the pork belly BLT but at 9:30pm they were out. I ended up with the gentleman's burger.... Burger, Tomato Jam, Pimento Cheese, Bacon. Wife had Chicken Fingers. Shared an order of gouda mac and cheese. EVERYTHING WAS AWESOME. If I would have known, I would have been eating here for years.
