I had a terrible experience! I was greeted by a server wearing a half shirt. Served in a Styrofoam cup. Waited 15 minutes for jambalaya. Which was not accompanied by the other meal that was ordered. My salad was served with ranch dressing in a to go container. I waited An Additional 10 Minutes FOR MY Friends Meal TO Arrive. He was served the wrong meal, had to re order. My drink was never refilled and my waitress was clearly out of the game that day! I will not return!

Since I like my food spicy, I generally will give a cajun-themed restaurant at least one opportunity to convince me to return. Mardi Gras Cafe' did this and more. The atmosphere when I walked in was warm and inviting. I was greeted immediately and were seated promptly. Our waitress was helpful with food choices and personable. Once I received my food in a timely manner and began tasting the blackened grilled tilapia, mac & cheese, and sautéed spinach, I was hooked. The food was perfectly flavorful and spiced just right. I will be returning many times when I am downtown. BTW, the owner, Harry Manning, was in the cafe' and came over to my table. Harry genuinely cares about the experience the cafe' is providing for his guest, as much as I can tell.

Food is fresh and delicious! I had the chicken platter with 2 sides and honey roll- 2 large chicken breasts cooked perfectly. I had them fried and the breading was very good but didn't overwhelm the meat. Chicken was tender and juicy - not overcooked and dry as can easily happen with fried chicken. Side of spinach sautéed in onions and garlic was my favorite! Obviously very fresh - bright, vibrant green and perfectly tender crisp. A bit too much onion for my taste but I just ate around some of them. 2nd side was Dirty rice and it was delicious! Loaded with meat and tender rice. Flavor was wonderful! I do like it a bit spicier than they make it but there was hot sauce to add. Next time I will just ask for more kick. The roll was soft with a hint of sweetness. Standard roll but with such delicious food I forgot about it until I was done eating anyway. It was 12.95 for my meal and I took home one of the chicken breasts - definitely worth the price. When we first walked in, we expected more of a fast diner experience so it took a bit longer than we expected but that is because everything was cooked to order. Knowing that, the time it took was average and definitely worth it for the above average food. So don't go in expecting fast food - go in ready to take some time to savor every bite! You won't regret it

The service was great. The food was cool. I did not like the collards. The sweet tea was ok. The overall experience was cool I will return.

I gave it 4 stars for overall experience. If it weren't for how MAGNIFICENT the food was, I'd give it 2 for service. The blackened shrimp, fried chicken, Mac n cheese, greens, cabbage, and grilled tilapia was OUTSTANDING!!! Happy hour prices are no match to the taste and amount they give you!!!BIG UPS! 5 dollars for food and any drink you want from 6-8. I am one happy camper

The jambalaya was pretty good. I was pleased with with this selection being in this area. The online ordering with the notification when the food was ready was superb and saved me a lot of time from not having to wait. I did think the chicken was slightly dry for this dish but was made up for in the price, portion, and the ambiance of the place. The owner inquired about it being my initial visit and took me on a tour that I'm sure will cause me to come back to experience the night life here.

  • Ericka S.

While it took a while for my food and that's only because they were making it fresh so I had no problem waiting. Once I took the first bite of their fried chicken, I must say that this is some of the best fried chicken I've ever had!

I would have given them 5 stars because my food and service was so excellent. I'll tell you why in a minute. My cousin and I went in on a Sunday afternoon just passing by, so we found out that they have a afternoon patio party, and live music with a DJ and also Karaoke. We decided to sit on the patio because the music was too loud inside. It's really nice outside but as we sat out there they turned the music up.... My cousin and I had to shout talking to each other.. But it wasn't too much of a bother because the atmosphere was still nice. I ordered smothered pork chops with macaroni and sautéed spinach. My cousin ordered Fried chicken with macaroni and cabbage, they really give you a large portion of meat so my cousin decided to take half of her food home for lunch the next day...I stuffed what I could in my mouth and boxed the rest and ate it in the car a few hours later.... That's how good it was I couldn't wait until Monday to eat it. Now! Here is where I tell you about that missing 5th star. My cousin texted me a picture of her leftover chicken... It wasnt thoroughly cooked and had blood on the inside :( she was so excited to eat it before she saw that. Next time if I get chicken I'm just going to ask them if they can make sure it's cooked all the way through. I'm going back!! It was too good!

I attended a birthday party here earlier this summer and I must say I really like this place. It's the perfect size for a small intimate gathering. They have a few tables downstairs and upstairs has tables, sofa's and a nice patio area. The food here is really good, I had wings and garlic spinach and I could have eaten several orders of the garlic spinach.....it was that good! The service was great and the cook was nice enough to let me watch him prepare the spinach. They were serving great drinks as well and I think it was hurricane's and they were excellent! I really loved the vibe here.

We both started off with the Gumbo made with Turkey Sausage... Omg THIS GUMBO WAS AMAZING.. The perfect consistency the right amount of spice & heat level was perfect... I will come back here to order GUMBO... For the entrée we ordered Smothered Pork chops with sauteed spinach & Mac and cheese... We got to this place at 4pm in the afternoon parked right on the street in front of the restaurant.. So this was not peak time the service is a little slow would be my only complaint...

I've ordered delivery via Grubhub the day before. then after an hour Grubhub called me saying that they have to cancel the order since no one is answering the phone. Then after some time a guy from Mardi called me that he's on his way with my delivery. Since I didn't have cash with me, he asked my credit card information to complete the payment and promise it would not be recorded. foolish as I am I give my card information and when I woke up today, guess what, my bank called me because of fraud use of my card. Will never order from here again.

Hands down this was the best resturant I've had here in Atlanta. The fried chicken, blackened chicken, fish, collards, yams, everything. But the White Chocolate Bread Pudding...MAN. That's really something special. The staff was friendly and pleasant. I'm looking forward to visiting them again.

The food was okay.i got the gumbo.portions are kinda small..but the lady serving us gave me the impression that she was on her last straw with life!...good gracious..i really wanted to leave at first because I didn't want her depression spilling over into my food..but my friend so badly wanted to eat there..

  • Tristyn B.

The food and service were ok... nothing to write home about. I had the shrimp with a side of mac and cheese that tasted like it came from the box. I can't stand artificial-tasting food! The service was very nonchalant. I won't go out of my way to come back.

I had the sumptuous smothered pork chops mac & cheese and spinach and for dessert the peach cobbler. It is really worth going to eat here. They give you more than enough food and service is really nice. I got a chance to meet the owner and was able to tell him how great the food was. I was in Atlanta getting my son settle at college. Whenever, I am in the ATL again this will be my go to spot to eat. Also had the lemon pepper wings and they tasted so good, cooked just right.

I can't say enough about this place #1 your welcomed as soon as you come in the door #2 prompt service every time I've been there(3 times)now the food the gumbo is to die for we couldn't stop ordering it the chicken was fried to perfection, ALL of the side dishes the green beans, yams, dirty rice, collards,Mac n cheese, sweet corn and the potato salad all taste as if your mama made it herself. This place has open my eyes to a new eatery every time I come to ATL. Terrell from California

I should be tired of chicken, but their's is really good. . Honestly thanks to Yelp I happened upon them late one night. I'm glad I did. The reviews are why I came but the food will keep me returning. Once you eat here so will you.

I want to eat this every day. Excellent flavor and texture, cook temp was on point. Very friendly and considerate service. I also agree with other posts about the high volume of the music for parties.

  • Lauren R.

Terrible service but a nice venue. I had the Shrimp Po'boy with french fries which was okay. And my friend had the chicken wings which she also thought was average. However what threw us off was the poor service we received. It took our waiter 15 minutes before she came over to even take our drink orders and we were only one of three parties in the restaurant. We finally got our food and asked for condiments four times before she actually brought us ketchup and extra sauce, and without an apology. She brought out our checks ten minutes apart so we sat and waited even longer. Very disappointed. Nice restaurant venue but definitely needs better waiters.

  • Adrian J.

Good food and decent service on average. Some of the folks that work here are friendly and give great customer service, but there are a few others who are slow and don't seem to care about the customer. I guess the two extremes balance each other out. They need to update their online & in-restaurant menus because the prices don't match up. Also, they charge additional for some things (like gravy to make the smothered pork chops) that aren't shown as additional charges on the menu. Nice patio upstairs that has a secluded feel that helps you forget where you are. Sometimes they have a dj or live music upstairs and sometimes they want to charge admission to go upstairs. Limited bar.

My new favorite spot hands down. This little cute cafe truly leaves up to its name. Great atmosphere, even better service and the food is always fresh and never disappoints. I need to start trying other dishes then just the grilled/blacken shrimp lol. I can't stop raving about it

My family and I happened to stop by after reading the reviews. The food was amazing! The service was great! My husband and I both had the smothered chicken and rice. The chicken was fall off of the bone fresh! I had the garlic spinach, it was unbelievable. The macaroni and cheese was so cheesy! The sweet tea and lemonade were so good! This is truly a hidden gem. You must give them a try!

Great food, if you enjoy authentic, well-seasoned Southern cuisine. The food is made to order, so it's always fresh. My favorite is the stuffed chicken with red beans. The gumbo is also very tasty. The dinning area is a bit cozy, but the taste of the food will compensate.

Had a friend get some wings and the wings were not even hot! I asked for hot with lemon pepper sprinkles and they were mild with no sprinkles.they tasted re fried and not fresh. Hopefully when I eat my gumbo later at work that will be good.

We had the stuffed chicken with sides of mac and cheese and dirty rice, gumbo with turkey sausage and shrimp, red velvet cake, bread pudding and sweet tea. We were a bit disappointed in the stuffed chicken because it was a somewhat dry chicken breast cut in half with 4 shrimp laid inside and a ladle of gravy. The mac and cheese was some of best we've had. They must have been having an off day on their gumbo that we were advised is their best item because it taste like burnt gravy that was thinned out with water and topped with rice and a few small pieces of sausage and shrimp. The sweets.... If you have diabetes, watch out! Other than that, the staff was REALLY nice! The venue was modern and chic. Seemed like a great place for a private party in their sky lounge/bar.

I liked this place...seems newly renovated. ..came with a group of coworkers for lunch...everyone left happy. Personally I had the shrimp poboy which had some large tasty shrimp. Throw just a tad bit of hot sauce if you like it really spicy. Service was good. They have events some evenings like spoken word, open mic etc . It's a lounge in the evening so you can grab a quality bite, drinks and enjoy some entertainment. Nice guys... thumbs up

I live on the westside and its anything but easy to find a good meal around here. Still, I took a chance on Mardi Gras Cafe and was impressed. I had the veggie platter for lunch - baked mac and cheese, sautéed garlic spinach and red beans . Everything was DELICIOUS! Service was okay. The dinning room, 2nd floor lounge area and outdoor patio is super cute! I recommend giving it a shot.

My husband and I attended Mardi Gras for a birthday party. First impression, typical small lounge. If this establishment is new, I saw missed opportunity for the owner. The fact that everyone grabbed wings that was brought out for the birthday party indicated to me, we weren't the only ones hungry. The ladies standing around the bar could have gone to the occupied tables with menus, making suggestions because this is a restaurant. Someone collected empty glasses from the table, but never asked us if we would like another drink. Instead, the servers stayed near the bar looking unfriendly. (Malibu and pineapple in an iced filled plastic cup was $9!) First impressions are lasting and we probably won't go back. If the staff upstairs are properly trained, this business may have a chance.

My boyfriend is crazy about cajun food. We've been to about 5 different Cajun Spots in Atlanta. This restaurant had the best Cajun food we've had so far. I had the shrimp po-boy. The bread was perfect, yummy and soft. It had a delicious sauce. I got French fried with it. They were cut and fried on location from fresh potatoes. There was a HUGE pile of them. So good. My boyfriend got gumbo and something else. He loved it. We stopped in that day because we were running errands in the city. We live in Doraville- 20 + minutes away. Now he's always requesting we go back. It's far but worth the trip! We liked the waitress. The speed of service was good. I also dig the ambience. It was comfortable and black owned and operated.

Met a friend here one Friday night for dinner. Menu is more extensive than what is online. I had the blackened shrimp which I'd give a b and my friend had the tilapia which she said was good. The Mac and cheese was solid and I appreciated that the collared greens were cooked with turkey. The music was supposed to start at 830, but we left close to 9 and it still hasn't started so I can't judge that. The place is relatively small so for a table get there early. I'd go again for sure.

I went on a Friday night, live band and an closed patio. Nice ambiance. Get there early to get a seat. Food took a while to come out, but it tasted good. I had smothered chicken which was great, red beans n rice and Mac n cheese. All in all good experience. Great date night spot.

As many times as I have frequent this place, I should have written an review by now. I absolutely love this place... so far the food is good. Nice, chill atmosphere especially on Friday nights when you want to listen to live music. However, this place has an awesome brunch special on Sundays. I love the Fried Chicken entrée w/ two vegetables. If you are looking for that nice Southern, Creole cooking... this is the best place to be. Nice venue and located in the Historic District of AU Center.

I had the creole burger, and it was delicious! If I'm going to spend my calories on a burger, I want it to be a good burger!!! I was not disappointed at all! This was yummy and filling. Also had some lemon pepper wings which are always fantastic! I always come here when I'm in town from California for some good grub!!! Check it out!

Went to Mardi Gras for a private event today, really loved the ambiance & look forward to seeing how this place does. I will admit that my first issue was parking. They have a lot behind the building, but it can only comfortably fit 5 cars. It is obvious that this used to be a residential location, hopefully they will make plans to have the grassy lot next to them into a surface lot to accomodate customers. I can imagine that they will lose some folks who do not trust the parking & will keep it rolling. When I walked in,I was highly impressed with the decor. Though small & cozy, the design was impeccably arranged. Completely open kitchen area. Nice. The event I was attending was upstairs. They were a little steep, but I hardly noticed once I got up there. There were TV's arranged in the room, wonderfully elegant seating, nice open & spacious layout. I did not experience the full offerings of the menu. The other party goers enjoyed the jambalaya, gumbo & cabbage. I had the wings, pretty tasty. I look forward to returning & getting to get a few items off the menu for myself.

These other reviews must be friends of the owner. The food was not good! We ordered gumbo (which is not at all gumbo), fried chicken, and sides-red beans and rice, mac and cheese. The chicken was actually pretty good, the sides were horrible. My family is from Lousiana and i may be biased, but why call yourself a Creole restaurant if u cant cook the food. Gumbo and red beans and rice are staples in any creole kitchen and are not hard to make with a little tlc...i couldnt finish either, bland and salty. I may go back for the live music and cocktails, but im good on the food.

My experience here was HORRIBLE! Let me start off with the fact that whoever does the seating were indecisive whether to sit us upstairs or downstairs.. The bartender was rude upstairs anyways so we moved back downstairs. We were a party of five and not one of us were satisfied. Our food took almost an hour to come out and all we ordered were wings. Our drinks weren't refilled what so ever and the manager or whoever he is HARRY wasn't personable so I'm not sure who hired him :/ He made it seem like we were the employees who messed up our own order . Extremely annoyed. I just let them keep the food even though I was starviiiing. So hungry that I wasn't even hungry anymore if that makes sense lol. The Chefs had great personality and I complimented them on the wings that I had one bite out of..they weren't terrible..although the lemon pepper wings were too salty. Everything wasn't our servers fault either Regine tried her hardest I guess. My food wasn't even good enough to post. But Harry the manager needs to work on his customer service! I will not be returning. ::thumbs down::

Stopped by Mardi Gras, on a Sunday afternoon for a late lunch. I had the blackened tilapia, red beans and rice, and sautéed spinach. My husband had the shrimp po'boy and the home made fries. My daughter chicken fingers and Mac and Cheese. Everything was delicious, seasoned to perfection. We met the owner Harry, and he was such a nice guy. He gave me a sample of the white chocolate bread pudding and it was unlike no bread pudding I had ever tasted...DELICIOUS! We will definitely be back and will be encouraging all of our friends to do the same. If you are reading this, trying to make a decision...give it a try, you won't be sorry, I promise.

Had the 2 piece Talapia fried and I'm not a big fish fan this was some of the best fish I've had in awhile. This place will have me coming back soon. They also have a lounge upstairs that will be opening soon and $3 drinks starting next friday so I might just come check that out as well.
