Had chicken stew peas and rice late on a Saturday with friend we both got food poisoning. I thought the peas Ave rice tasted funny. They were lazy and gave us old food! ! Never going again! I have friends with the city of Atlanta that frequently go here. They will hear about this experience

Went with a group of 6, we were the ONLY people in the restaurant, our waitress was extremely unenthusiastic. After waiting 30 minutes for drinks we ordered and waited an hour and a half for our food which was brought out individually. And by the time the last person got their food ours was cold. The most frustrating thing was that we literally watched people ordering and leaving with take out while we waited! All of the orders were wrong and nobody ever apologized or gave us an explanation for the wait or the wrong orders! DO NOT EAT HERE

Being the caribbean man that I am. I am an avid lover of authentic caribbean cuisine. Mangos is a very spacious location located in the heart of downtown Atlanta. The staff is always friendly and provide excellent service. Being the full time student I am, I love the 10% discount they give to Georgia State Students! The ambience there is amazing. Before you walk in the door you melodic sounds of reggae music kills the air. Before I order I have to get either a beef patty or a jerk chicken patty (with the coco bread) lol! My go to entree is the Oxtails! But they also make a to die for Estovich fish! Mangos definitely has the all the requirements of a dope authentic caribbean cuisine restaurant.

Went here for dinner on Friday night. The place was not packed for a late Friday night which was good. The food was really good although it was cold. I got the oxtail dinner. The mango lemonade was ok. Not a big lemonade fan but tried it anyway. The negative (unfortunately) was the wait time to be recognized by a waiter after seating ourselves was rather long. I noticed that other tables were complaining about the same problem. It took a very long time just to get a menu let alone a drink. Nevertheless, the food is good and they are open til 4am. Definitely, a plus to keep me coming back.

Food is really good, I had oxtail that came with rice and beans, madurus/sweet plantains, and steamed cabbage. Everything tasted great; even the cabbage! I saw a lot of neg reviews about service, but I had a pretty ok exp. Nothing special. I will be back.

The best Jamaican food in ATL. I frequent this spot far too often for their delicious fresh Caribbean food. My absolute favorite is the Brown Stew tilapia fish and it comes with rice & beans, plantains, and cabbage. A close runner-up is the jerk chicken with roti skin. My boyfriend's favorite is the Curry Chicken. The only thing that I didn't like here was the Jerk Tofu because it is very VERY spicy but everything else that I've tried was delicious. They offer GSU students a discount. On Mondays everyone gets $2 off a meal. They are open until 4 AM on weekends. Can you get any better than that? The food here is delicious and in large portions! I'm getting hungry just thinking about it!

My new spot I've ate here an entire week . The food is piping hot . The portions is amazing . It's season to the T! The staff is wonderful , ! I've only did takeout only . I haven't went to sit down . I've tried the beef stew , curry chicken , plantains , coco bread & jerk chicken . The jerk chicken to spicy for me ! I would recommend this place to everyone

I noticed Mangos while I was on the streetcar and decided to get off at the Auburn at Piedmont stop. Since there is no one at the front of the house to greet you, just find a sit. I did mention to one of the members of the staff where I would sit. He mentioned someone would be over with a menu however, he came back and presented it to me and later took my order. I ordered the curry chicken. It was complemented with rice and peas, cabbage and plantain. The chicken is prepared with the bone-in (which I how I prefer it). The chicken and the accompanying side dishes were good! The mango lemonade was good. Besides the slight service delays, Mangos' being next to the streetcar stop makes a future visit convenient when using transit downtown.

This place is so good... I got the brown stewed chicken and my fiancé ordered ox tails. The brown stewed chicken has a lot of flavor, I would describe it as sweet/savory. It comes with rice and peas, plantains, and cabbage. We initially were going to Sweet Auburn across the street but decided to try this instead. I don't regret it because now this is our favorite carribbean spot :)

  • David T.

You MUST try their oxtails and jerk chicken meals, both are spectacular and very filling. This is my go-to lunch spot at GSU, their lunch specials are only 6.99. Also GSU students can show their ID and get 2 dollars off a regular priced items.

  • Tysha R.

Took over an hour for us to get our food. Then... We found a hair on the oxtail and they had the audacity to say it not Their hair. Never again....

Since I was in the area, thought why not get lunch at Mangos. I thought about asking about the Lunch special but totally forgot about it once I got in, I waited a good 10 minutes before I actually asked a guy at the door if anyone was going to ask me why I'm here??? Another 5 mins went by until the server came to my table and asked me what she could get for me very non chalently looking like she was very annoyed and didn't want to be there ( again if you're having a bad day and your work involves interaction with customers, just take the day off or fake til you make it ... ) told her the regular oxtails ... She left without even asking me if I wanted to drink anything, so again I asked the guy for some water, which he brought me. 20 mins later, the woman comes back with my food, drops it on the table and leaves.... Reading another customer's review I also think she gave me the lunch special menu and charged me for the regular, I got a veryyy small portion of rice, about 5 small oxtails, for ... Wait for it ... $14.04 - I probably should have taken a picture but I was too annoyed about my experience thus far to actually even care. Needless to say that she didn't get a lucrative tip from me. The quality of the food has seriously gone down -now it's mostly salty with not much flavor - anyways never again. I was really disappointed about my recent visit. I used to like this place, servers used to be all smiles the minute you walk in ... Now I don't know if it's because it's getting popular, they're overcharging people for tasteless food with an attitude. Not worth it.

We meandered over to Mangos after Winddown Wednesdays at Centennial. We were immediately greeted once we walked through the doors. I ordered the curry chicken, and the beaux ordered brown stew chicken with a curry chicken patty. Our food was ready in about 15 min, and it was piping hot when they showed us the food. There were a few snafus there at the end with getting our drinks and patty, but I don't expect the greatest customer service from Caribbean restaurants. We both enjoyed our food, but it wasn't anything to brag about. I have been on the hunt for chicken roti, which they don't have, but I would definitely come back.

My first time stopping by during lunch to get a curry chicken plate to go. The server rang me up 9.72$. The food arrives and I see a small amount of chicken and rice. I ask the server where is the rest of the food?? They said I bought the regular and the lunch special is 6.99$. So Why didnt you guys inform me of the lunch special? "We are sorry", they said. Basically they charged me for the regular and gave me the lunch plate. I Do Not a recommend this place. There are wayy better carribean restaurants that have better food great service and parking like Negril on north ave.

Jerk chicken jerk chicken jerk chicken!!!! Great service. Great food. I wish the chicken was grilled but is was still good and spicy. #TriniToDaBone

I can't quite put my finger on what it is about this nicely decored restaurant. Again, it's very tastefully done. Good sound system. Live dred singing on the mic, not too loud, good volume. The service is impeccable! Each female server was beyond pleasant, with beautiful, genuine smiles. It was as if they really liked their jobs. Parking is a hassle. If you don't get one of the maybe 14 spots along Auburn, you're stuck parking around a corner, which then becomes sketchy. Both, for the safety of your car, and for you, on your walk to and from the restaurant. WARNING: Do NOT get the JERK CHICKEN PASTA. It is so spicy HOT that it is INEDIBLE. To the server's credit, she did advise that it is often too hot for many people. I figured since I liked my food spicy, I'd be ok. Wrong. That stuff is a WASTE of money. I'd like to see ANYONE eat a full bowl of it. My friend got the oxtails, but didn't say anything about them- good or bad. That's not a great sign. Their plantains are very good! They were out of the homemade sorrel. Booo. We had a Groupon. I'm glad. If I hadn't had the Groupon, I would've been requesting to see management about my wasted money on that inedible entree. *******BE ADVISED: THEY BRING YOU A BILL FOR GRATUITY ON YOUR GROUPON MEAL. It's not optional. You get an ACTUAL PRINTED, GRATUITY ADDED BILL. It's an okay place, I guess. I wouldn't come back by choice, but if someone else chose to come here, I probably wouldn't protest much.

My mom and I stopped in after a visit to the Human and Civil Rights Museum. I was determined to try something other than my typical order of jerk chicken, so we both tried the buttered red snapper meal. We ordered the regular size, but when she brought the orders out, they were humongous!! I clarified whether or not it was the regular or large, and she said regular. I can only imagine how big the large platter is. It was a huge, whole fish (which was delish!), peas and rice, cabbage and plantains. My mom really likes their mango tea. She said it wasn't too sweet and had a hint of mango instead of overpowering the tea like some restaurants. Everything was good, it was just way too much to consume. We'd hoped to purchase slices of mango cheesecake to-go, but they were out :( Friendly staff, close to trolley stop and good food. Will go back.

Went here to celebrate my brother's graduation from college. It's a cool spot. I like that it's open late. The food took a little longer than I would've liked to prepare so don't go here if you're in a pinch. Nonetheless the food was delicious. The pricing was reasonable. Overall a good experience. Besides. Everything Caribbean is great. And the location is perfect near State.

Just relocated to ATL from California, I was looking for a Jamaican restaurant to dine at. I am Jamaican so I look for authenticity and quality when going out. I have lived in Connecticut as well as Virginia and I found great restaurants that are flavorful, and give u a great quantity for what u pay for. After hearing the commercial on the radio I decided to give it a try. It was "ok." I felt like I didn't get what I paid for. In the past, I have ordered smaller portions and got more meat Than what I was given today. Also I felt like it was under seasoned, the rice was a lil tough, and not enough gravy that what I normally get. I also ordered coco bread which I can tell was underbaked and reheated in the microwave. I hope they were having an off day but I wasn't pleased today.....

The coco bread is amazeballz. The jerk chicken sandwich is very delicious, Mac n cheese on point too. Plus they have watermelon pop

Terrible bathrooms! First time at the restaurant with my fiance and mother. Very good location, right near the MLK historic site. Food was pretty good, but the bathrooms need A LOT of work. Mom and I went in to use and wash our hands, and we left the bathroom feeling more dirty. Was complaining to my fiancé how awful the ladies bathroom was, only for him to come back and say the men's was bad too. It's terrible for a restaurant to look good when you walk in, cook your food, yet can't upkeep their bathrooms. I give 3 stars for the food being tasty, large servings, but could have been 5 stars if it weren't for the bathrooms.

Being caribbean, we can be very critical of our food. This place sells outstanding food. I love the fact they are open late on Friday and Saturday nights. Customer service is decent. Keep in mind, my orders are really "to go" but the customer service at the counter is just fine. Visit and enjoy. I recommend the mango lemonade, stew chicken with rice and peas and oxtail if you are an oxtail lover. The jerk chicken is a little to spicy for my palette, but I heard it is good as well.

Having recently moved to the Midwest I was pleasantly surprised when I found this place on Yelp and it was within walking distance from my hotel. I enjoyed both my visits while staying in Atlanta for 2 weeks. The food was really good. I ordered the curry chicken the first time and walked back to the hotel. The next time I went, my friends and I walked, ate in and then took Uber back. I would recommend this place and if close to it again while visiting Atlanta, I would definitely go back.

Caribbean Food is awesome. And the Vibe here is very "Caribbean in the Big City". Bubbles is friendly, willing to explain / answer questions - and the food is fast and tasty. I'd prefer my chicken not on the bone, but I am aware this makes it "more flavorful" and it was. It is just a bit messy when dressed for the office in the middle of the day. Looks like a great place for evening gathering, and they seem to have some entertainment too! Mango Lemonade. Give it a try!

this was my first time dining in here and at first i was mad because we sat at the bar and nobody acknowledged us..then when i asked does anyone serve over here the young lady said the lady was working by herself and thats why she never seen us... I still felt that was no excuse. So we sat ourselves down at a table on the other side and then again she still took forever because she was by herself(although I seen ppl that worked there on their cell phones). then they were only serving from one side of the menu because at the time so my friend had to change his order... but the food was good as hell as always!!!! so I'm a still keep going back. they need to start serving hookah up in that peace!

*Do Not Order The Jerk Chicken Pasta* Mind you I've been eating Caribbean food all my life, and in all those 27 years I have never had jerk anything that was not tasteful, no matter the spice, that is until now. So about this "Jerk Chicken Pasta" First off it was filled with way too much veggies and seasoning, this was the first thing I noticed, especially since there was no chicken in my meal when I got it. Once the chicken was actually added to my meal, I thought more of it as a spicy veggie pasta + chicken. But the veggies was a minor issue compared to the overall taste and heat of the meal. The cashier did tell me it was hot, but having encountered jerk all my life I thought nothing of it. The pasta was way too hot to enjoy, unbearable would be an understatement. I would not wish this meal on my worst enemy or my ex gf.

  • Loren B.

I had such high hopes. They have a 5.99 special for lunch and special promotion like 2 dollars off Tuesday, unfortunately I was overcharged even after I talked to the cashier. The saltfish was chewy and inedible. The Jerk Chicken was good but I've had a lot better in Atlanta...i.e. Calypso Cafe, which is also downtown. It seems that they are understaffed with the two watercress wearing themselves out to accommodate everyone. The callaloo is NOT callaloo. It is some sort of kale, spinach mix...very disappointing. Basically the food wasn't authentic and overpriced, even though it looks marked down. You have to pay for parking, but the ambiance is nice. Do you really want to come here when the food is just okay and there is a long way? No you don't..... Good luck!

  • Misha T.

I've been eating at mangos relatively frequently for about two years now and quite frankly it is just not what it used to be. The last few times that I've visited Mangos the customer service has been poor and each time I waited over an hour to receive my food. I visited today and ordered a jerk chicken sandwich, callaloo, and plantains to go. My order was estimated to have been ready in about 20 minutes. I got my food an hour and ten minutes later. The chicken on the sandwich was extremely dry and the callaloo and plantains had obviously been reheated in the microwave. Their food has always kept me coming back but lately their service and the inconsistency in the food that I've received has lost me as a customer.

    (2)
  • Saba M.

Service a little slow but the food is beyond smacking amazing. I had the Jerk tofu and omg phenomenal. It tasted like authentic Jamaican Jerk. I love that all the food tastes like a grandma made it. I would recommend highly to anyone wanting some good and flavorful food. I didn't have desserts because I'm a a vegan but they look really good. Pricing is reasonable as well.

  • LaShonda H.

It was pretty good. This is my second time eating here and I had the jerk chicken, white rice, cabbage and plantains. Honestly the curry chicken is better. Maybe because the jerk chicken was cold for some reason. The mango lemonade was yummy and so was the rum sauce bread pudding. My friend had the snapper with butter sauce and he seemed to like it (he's west Indian). We used a groupon which was helpful with the cost.

    (3)
  • Tei A.

I purchased a Groupon for this place and thankfully so. I ordered the jerk chicken with peas and rice with a side of callaloo. The callaloo was dancing on the tongue that the Jerk chicken set aflame. Anyone that knows me know I LOVE spicy food but the jerk chicken tasted more like a fire-hot barbecue sauce and it just wasn't pleasant. A friend said it's a hit-or-miss type of place so maybe your experience will be better than mine.

  • Takashi T.

It was mediocre at best. This review is coming from two American-born Jamaicans who grew up on West Indian food. We love good food and make a huge production of what we're going to eat for lunch each day. Today, we tried Mango's for the first time. What we ordered: Oxtails ($13), rice & peas, cabbage Red Snapper ($20), rice & peas, callalloo What we liked: 1. The hostess (or maybe she was a server)? was pleasant and attentive. 2. The music was great. 3. The place was clean. 4. The food was steaming hot. 5. The prices were decent but they should consider a $10/10 minutes menu for lunch specials. What we didn't like: 1. The food! LOL! It was very unauthentic and Americanized. We are both American-born West Indians and grew up on Jamaican food. This food is not West Indian at all. It wasn't necessarily bad, just not West Indian. (A) The oxtails were ok and the sauce was weird. The red snapper was good but not great. For a $20 lunch entree, I expect delicious. (B) The rice & peas was not cooked with coconut and it was noticeable. What Jamaican makes rice & peas without coconut? It didn't have great flavor. It was ok. (C) My cabbage was very mushy. :-( 2. The server (older gentleman) was outside smoking in between checking on us. That's gross. He smelled like cigarette smoke and didn't come to check on us until we were almost done. I saw him smoking twice. 3. The check had a 20% tip that wasn't mentioned on the menu or any place else. I happen to be a great tipper and I never tip under 20%. But I don't like being forced to tip, especially at a casual dining restaurant and at lunchtime. If I am forced, it should be the industry standard, which is 15-18%. If you're going to force a 20% tip, at least have exceptional service. I normally tip above whatever is mandated but this time I kept my extra in my pocket. 4. The wait was a little longer than I wanted for lunch. I guess it was the snapper? That's not too bad. All in all, the food just needs more flavor and more authenticity. There can't possibly be Jamaicans in the kitchen. I think it's probably a great place for "those who eat their food with a little less soul."

I went during the Carnival so it was very busy, but glad I waited nearly an hour, the large jerk chicken is big enough for 2 ppl. Most def will be back!

So after a night of dancing one Saturday, my friend suggested this late night spot for a bite to eat. it was nice change from the usual IHOP, Waffle House, Steak n Shake. Plus I haven't had Caribbean food in a while. No matter where I go, I HAVE to get a beef patty. They didn't have any. Ok, well I'll try a chicken patty, never had that! They didn't have any of those either. All they had was veggie patties. Yeah....that's ok. Had my heard set on some meat LOL! I got some peas and rice. My two friends both got the small curry chicken meal with peas and rice and plantains. I was very surprised at the size of their "small" considering the price. It was very generous and reasonable. MY friends share some of their curry chicken and plantains. The chicken was really good. I'm usually an ox tails girl but will definitely give curry chicken a chance now too. The plantains were good too, nothing over the top about them though. The meals came out pretty quick also. If nothing else, this place will be on my list of alternative late night destinations :-)

I was visiting Atlanta and heard of this Caribbean restaurant. Went in and had some curry goat, the goat was good but not only do they serve little rice it's was a bit hard. None the less I ordered some patties to go. Finally my check arrived with orders that weren't mine. That was easily corrected but the fact that they are not paying attention! Later arrive back to my hotel I realize I had bought 4 spoiled patties, they had blue dot marks on it, and white looking stains on them. Horrible restaurant. Be careful enough eating there

I usually enjoy going here but tonight was one of my worst nights.i called in a order for two king fish, one steamed and the other escovitch...when my boyfriend went inside to pay for our food he specifically asked if the order was correct because both fishes looked the same "steamed". The waiter convinced him that the fishes were different so he didn't argue. Our fish was really hard and there was so much sauce/gravy in my plate my rice was extremely soggy. He noticed that the waiters seem to be having a disagreement between each other, that's just bad customer service. due to the fact that they were having their lil beef/argument with each other they weren't paying any attention to my order. I was highly upset when we got to the house cause we drove 40 minutes for that food. I gave two stars because I've been here a couple times and I've enjoyed their food!!!

  • RuthAshley T.

We went to mangoes on a whim because I had been looking for good Caribbean food since I moved to Atlanta. After reading the yelp reviews I knew this was going to be a good place to go. When we walked in there were only two servers but they were working as hard and fast as they could. We ordered a large jerk chicken to go and only had to wait about 20 minutes. The jerk chicken, seasoned rice and cabbage was so good that I can't wait to go back. It is definitely a great place for great Caribbean. I can't wait to go back and try the curry chicken.

  • Lynx M.

I'm giving this place 2 stars because I only eat here when someone is treating, it's late and I want Caribbean food, or I have a groupon. The service is usually hit or miss but I do appreciate they keep the restrooms pretty clean. Parking is A BLOODY NIGHTMARE! good luck with finding a spot and coming back to your vehicle not being broken into. Let's not forget the sea of zombie panhandlers you have to dodge to get in and out of the place. Once you have made it inside be prepared for somewhat mediocre Caribbean food. It's a step up from chef robs in sandy springs, at least they have patties, cocobread, and scotch bonnet sauce but the ox tails and the jerk taste just alike 0_o the curry goat is decent is why I usually return. My ol man makes way better curry chicken than this place so i dont ever order that. It's decent like I said, not the worst but not the best. It will do when you have a hankering for Caribbean food.

Mango's is great during the day, but it's even better at night. I love grabbing a real meal after a night out on the town. Authentic Jamaican food that leaves u feeling very satisfied and won't break the bank.

  • Renne J.

I ordered the Jerk Chicken with red beans and rice. I tried to Mango Cheesecake. Delish! I love spicy food and the Jerk Chicken was spicy but did not over-power my taste buds! It was just enough heat. The Mango Cheesecake was more of a pie texture to me, but that did not take away from the sweet mangoesque cheesecake which is really made of mangoes. I went here for lunch and called in the order for pick-up. There was a brief wait for food. Overall: The food was great. Plantains (which I love) were cooked to perfection. I will be back!

  • Michael S.

Mediocre food, rude service. We came in and were just confused by the lack of staff or signage telling us where we're supposed to order food. The employees were not helpful and got annoyed when they had to repeat themselves because they were mumbling instead of talking. The food was just spicy, not very flavorful. However, the fried plantains and seasoned rice were very good. They do not serve alcohol, which is strange considering their late weekend hours.

A buddy and I needed some late night dinner. We wanted some island food. Late night options are few in Atlanta. The parking in that area is a little difficult. There was not really anyone there. We sat ourselves at a booth. I ordered oxtails with rice and peas and plantains. My friend ordered the jerk chicken. Our waitress was nice and friendly. Our food came out quickly. Oxtails were really good. I wish the portions were a bit larger. But my friend had a nice size order. We both enjoyed our food. I thought the price was just a bit pricey especially for the food and time of night. The restaurant clean but the bathroom was small and cramped.

The owner was extremely nice and helpful. The other night when me and my friends missed our transportation back to school he let us sit inside his establishment WAAAAY after closing time (2 am to be exact). He sold us beef patties and cocoa bread which was absolutely delicious. This man did way more then he should, when he thought our transportation wasn't coming he offered us a ride home because he didn't want us to sit outside in the cold rain. Not to many places like that. God definitely put good people on this earth! Please go here anytime you can!

    (5)
  • Jeremy A.

Stewed Oxtails were excellent here, the parking is all street with park atlanta sitting on the block waiting for you to lapse by a minute. The waitress was nice but the food took a real long time to come out at lunch time and there was 2 tables eating that sat down after us. Mango lemonade was pretty delicious and the prices were reasonable.

  • Ebony B.

The ackee and saltfish is delicious. Sometimes they have yams and boiled dumplings, sometimes they don't, which is frustrating. The food options lack consistency. The rice can often be crunchy and hard. All in all, it's a friendly place and a great place to eat and hang out when on lunch or on call @ Grady. Tru and Jay and super super nice, and that makes it worth the go.

  • K G.

This was my first time at Mango's and I'm absolutely totally 100% satisfied! The food is actually authentic Jamaican food! I had the curry goat and my friend had the jerk chicken. Both meals had enough spice to have us feeling like we were on an island! The curry goat was tender, and the rice had nice sweetness (likely Coconut Milk). The jerk chicken was super spicy and good with extra jerk sauce if desired. The only reason I gave four stars is because they only gave 2 pieces of plantain for each dish vs. the typical 4 pieces. My friend gave me his two pieces in condolences. LOL But, I think I found my new "yardie" spot! I'll be back very soon! Probably on Sunday to try their Ackee & Codfish!

My partner and I decided to try this place out on a Tuesday evening because they had a promotion running via Scoutmob. We ordered the oxtails over seasoned rice, steamed cabbage, fried plantains, chicken Jamaican patty, and a beef patty. The food was BLAH! The portion sizes were large. If it was not for the oxtails I would be giving this place 2 stars. The oxtails were delicious and meaty. The fried plantains were standard. But I did not care for the seasoned rice and the steamed cabbage. Maybe I am just not accustomed to how Jamaicans spice their foods, but I was not a fan of those side dishes. The chicken patty and beef patty were okay, nothing special in my opinion though. I also tried their "famous" mango lemonade, I was expecting a light refreshing drink, but what I got was an extremely sweet, syrupy drink. NO THANK YOU. The restaurant has a pretty cool atmosphere. Nice booths and tables with flat screen televisions on the walls. The people working there are friendly, as well. I probably won't return again. There are better Jamaican food spots in Atlanta and at better prices too.

Food was great! I was a bit leery of trying this restaurant since I don't eat Caribbean too much, but I did and it was excellent. We bought a Groupon and got a really good deal. The service was a bit slow, but that did not annoy me too much.

I ate here for lunch on a nice Friday afternoon. When you get there, they are in a location where you can park on the street (metered). Not a problem getting parking as there were at least 4 spots when I got there. The Restaurant is small just like most caribbean joints. They had a ghetto hostess, (looked to be a family member) which is cool I guess. I was alone so they sat me at the 2-person table next to the window, in front of the speaker that was blaring music. Again, no biggie! The chairs were worn and rickety, the table got so hot from the sun blaring thru the window my phone began to overheat from sitting on the table. Anyhow, I wasn't go to be there long, I thought..maybe 30 minutes top. I was seated quick so I thought yes! Well, that was BS...took the server at least 10 minutes before she came over and finally ask for my drink order. I had been there long enough so I went ahead and put it my lunch order as well. Took about 15 minutes for my food to come out...I guess thats standard in any caribbean joint. I was a little worried about time because I only fed the meter for 45 minutes and the ticket hounds were out. Anyhow, I ordered the Oxtail, with peas & rice, cabbage and plantain. There is already a picture on here of the oxtail plate. It looks EXACTLY like the pic. I'm from the islands so I know what caribbean food should taste like and it wasn't bad. It had a little bit to much salt but I guess that goes by individual tongue. After I received my food I didn't see the server anymore. When I was done with about 2 minutes to spare I saw the server and nodded for her. She was busy talking to another server so she took her time bringing my bill. Overall the place wasn't bad and I would go back. I give 3 stars because the service was unprofessional. The food is good but not the best I've had, but I would recommend it. TIP: They have a lunch special from 12 to 3pm. Its about $7. I didn't notice it until I had already ordered. The small oxtail plate was $12 and I was there during the lunch special hours.

The worst service of all time. We didn't get our waters until after we finished the meal. Ordered the oxtails and had to ask for more because all they gave us were bones. The food is pretty decent however you only get one plantain. Plus they don't honor the Scoutmob which was the only reason why we came to this place.

I am very picky about my Jamaican food being that I lived ib the same neighborhood of the chef at a restaurant I worked at in MD. Somebody please try the mango cheesecake and tell me how it is. I didn't want to go into a sensory overload. Yesterday I got out of ER and asked the dr if it was ok for me to walk to Mangos. She was like huh? I told her that fast food wouldn't do. I needed homecooking, since I couldn't stand for long, I wasn't gonna be in the kitchen. She said ok once I told her how close it was. She said I needed water and food. So Mangos was Dr prescribed. LOL I couldn't make up my mind. I mean really. I was like a Neiman Marcus buyer at a Chanel open house. I ordered sorrel because I knew I needed nutrients. Yes, I got water. Dr's orders. As I sipped on what reminded me of home..Maryland that is, I pondered over what to eat now and what to take home. Oxtails have iron I thought. Brown stew chicken in regular size - honey that was enough for me- which came with rice and peas (not pigeon peas; score!), cabbage and two pieces of plaintains. A jerk chicken sandwich to go. My dog begged me for a piece; I shouldn't have obliged because I was eyeballed and dang near robbed by a jackchi. Who knew my dog would like Jamaican. But I digressed. This place gets the Harzeez seal of approval. Bring your family and friends. Order to go. Dine in. Don't be afraid to wave your napkin in the air or give a praise run when your plate hits the table. I dang near cried. No really.

Brown stew chicken, goat curry, whole red snapper, plantains, red beans and rice....all very yummy and satisfying. I am excited to return. The owner, who goes by the name "Truth," is also friendly, warm, and cool.

This is my first five star review. I am proud to give this to Mangos Caribbean Restaurant. My first time eating here was when I finished class at Clark Atlanta University and I craved Caribbean Food. The one I usually go to in the West End (A Taste of the Caribbean) was not open. This is a great restaurant to eat authentic Caribbean Food. I order pick-up here all the time with my boyfriend and gladly tip. The staff has always been friendly to me. I love the food here because it is always hot and fresh. Music is always playing too (on the street and in the restaurant). I am from the Caribbean so I know when food is not fresh, a day or two old, or has been microwaved, lol! However, this restaurant has fresh food and a variety to choose from in the appetizers, lunch, dinner, and dessert. The staff for me has always been very friendly. Like I said I only order pick-up from here. One day I will be back to do a dine-in service, probably with Groupon and order appetizers, entrees, drinks, and desserts to see if the dine-in service meets my expectations as a Caribbean woman. You won't be disappointed. You will be full and happy that you came by. Five stars well deserved!

Disclaimer: I've never been to a Jamaican restaurant before. So aside from having the odd Jerked Chicken, this is my first time at a Jamaican restaurant. The food was pretty decent, my main complaint is that my chicken dish was 90% bone. I felt like I spent most of my dinner performing surgery on the chicken to get rid of the bone. Essentially, I felt like I paid $12 for bone (+ a chicken scrap or two) and two mediocre sides.

Definitely a place to show off :o) This was my first visit to the restaurant and the whole experience was amazing. The food was top notch clean, crisp, flavorful, and real cooking. No complaints on the environment, no complaint on the service, and definitely no complaint on the food. There was was point when the awesome music was turned off and the two televisions were on different channels and clashing. Not a big deal though. The only concern I have is that when I ordered the jerk chicken, our server almost sounded like she was trying not to sell it by assuming it was spicier than I think and that if I get it, I shouldn't dig in. Not sure if she had a bad experience with a past customer complaining about it, but when I are the meal, I had no idea what she was talking about.

Great food on a rainy day!! I had a cream soda stewed chicken with brown gravy as a lunch special and a kallaloo pie. All very good. I'd go back!

This place is pretty okay. The mango lemonade was pretty good ($2). My friend tried another type of lemonade and said it was too sweet. I guess he likes the genuine tartness of a lemonade. I tried the jerk chicken with rice, cabbage, and fried plantains. I was going to get the small plate for $8, but the sweet waitress said the lunch special was the same size at an awesome price of $5.99. The portion size was huge: lots of rice and two large pieces of chicken. They had added too much sauce, but it gave the chicken lots of flavor. My friend ordered the curry goat plate ($10 for small). Same ordeal: lots of rice with steamed cabbage and two fried plantains. Remember to pay the parking meter before you head into the restaurant. It's parallel parking like most places in Atl. Oh. There's free wifi. You have to ask for the password. It could be "mangosatl1234." That could be the password. Don't remember exactly.

Order the jerk chicken sandwich....it's so good you'll want more of it even if you're stuffed. The bread is what makes the sandwich and the spicy chicken is packed with flavor. Cool little place to grab something late night or on the way home from work.

Awesome flavor!!! Wait time a little long but I promise it's worth it... Open late! Til 4am on Friday and Saturday and midnight on Sundays!!! Try the jerk only if and ONLY IF you like HEAT!!! Curry is awesome add a mango lemonade!!! And they have a bar if you are a drinker!!!

Pretty authentic Jamaican Food. Not quite like grandmas cooking but close enough. The patties are the BOMB! I got the escovich fish, it had some good flavor but not enough spice for me. Food was good. I would eat here again.

This restaurant is very very nice. The care and service the waiter gave was above and beyond. When you enter a business and the person greet and shake your hand, this is a business worth supporting. The food is good. The service is past five star. This is my personal review and how they treated me and my family.

Cool little place off the beaten path. I ordered jerk chicken with rice and beans, and really enjoyed the meal. Service was very friendly and prompt. I'll definitely go back when I'm in ATL again. Loved the hot sauces too!

I went for the lunch special which today was jerk chicken with 2 sides. They will tell you what the lunch special of the day is, and which of the sides are included in the special (its not all of them). However for $5.99 thats a deal! There were 3 small pieces of chicken but it was enough with the sides to fill me up. Having a lunch special on a weekend is worth an extra star from me!!! Almost all the lunch specials around town are M-F ONLY for the office crowd. Even if it doesnt say so at other places they expect you to know that. This one really is good weekends and I thank you for that! Plus on weekends parking is generally easy!! If not in front, then try the next block west which is almost always open. SAT you pay the meter, SUN YOU DONT- so keep that in mind. I'll go back!

Woot Woot! New Caribbean restaurant in the A! I was literally just talking about how we needed more options for Caribbean cuisine in the city... and it's as if my prayers were answered just a few months later, lol. I had the chance to visit here during lunch and dinner in the SAME day... don't ask me why, lol, but I did. (Both times I was ordering takeout, but I had to wait 15 minutes or so, so I was able to take in the atmosphere.) LOCATION: This is in the MLK district, it's off Auburn Ave so I suppose it's considered Downtown according to Yelp, but it's actually sorta more Edgewood to me if we were gonna clump it in a 'neighborhood'. It's right next door to The Royal Peacock, and near a lot of newer developments (renovated old buildings). I actually peeped condos across the street with doormen! Like the dressed-up professional Manhattan type doormen. You fancy, huh?! lol. They don't even have that in some of the super ritzy condos in my area, so I loved seeing that in this area. As for parking: metered street parking and there's also a pay-to-park lot nearby (right at the corner of Auburn & Piedmont). (And umm, how awesome is it that this place intersects w/ Piedmont Ave.... straight shot back to Midtown baby! love that too, huge plus!) DECOR/ATMOSPHERE: Right in the middle of the road in terms of the type of Jamaican spot it is-- not super fancy, but also not the typical small, cramped, walk-in. Very nice overall: exposed brick, caribbean orange walls, white chair railing (like crown molding on the wall), chocolate ceilings, lots of flat screen TVS all around. It's very spacious for this type of restaurant, it's also nice and clean (hope it stays this way). They had a super interesting Bob Marley documentary on the main TV near the front and had the Olympics/sports on the other TV's... loved that! I could look in front of me and become more educated then look to my right and root for my country-- U-S-A, U-S-A, lol! There are several tables, a few booths, and there's an area that has bar type setup and open floor space, it's probably where people can dance and "lounge"/hang on the nights they stay open until 2 AM or later. FOOD: - Jerk Chicken: Had this during lunch, it was okay. Typical jerk spices, very spicy of course and very nice portion, came with a side of cabbage, rice&peas, two pieces of plantain. The sides were not flavorful at all... I feel as if there was less preparation and it was sorta rushed since it was the $5.99 lunch special. - Patties: Had a veggie patty, it was the usual... hot and pretty good. - Cocoa Bread: The piece I had during lunch was horrible, dry, over-heated, not good. The piece I had during dinner was great, but they took it from a fresh bunch and I asked them to heat it less. - Brown Stew Chicken: had this during dinner, and it was great. Nice flavors, juicy tender meat. My only gripe was the small portion-- I got more bones than meat, but the meat I got was awesome. The accompanying cabbage and rice and peas were wonderful as well, very flavorful. The plantain was sorta dry though. - Mango Lemonade: it's great to have a signature something... and their signature Mango Lemonade is perfection. It taste like fresh lemonade with the perfect amount of mango juice added. It was light, perfectly tart and sweet. I would order this by the gallon, easy! There was a clear difference to me between lunch & dinner, I think it had a lot to do with both the chefs/cooks and just the busyness. As of now I prefer the evening cooks. SERVICE: Ranged from ok to great. For lunch I dealt w/ an older Jamaican woman, she had an attitude and was starting to gripe about my coupon, luckily a younger guy (maybe manager) w/ glasses was nearby and sorta stepped in and told her to accept it of course, he doesn't even know how much his professional obviously right act saved this review, lol. (I hate when restaurants give you slack about their own deals, it's insane to me...) Anyway, after he stepped in she became much nicer. For dinner there was a younger Jamaican girl working-- super sweet, nice personality from beginning to end. She even welcomed everyone, "Welcome to Mangos!" Loved that! (stark contrast from the woman I dealt w/ earlier) PRICING: Great prices, and they're listed online (website) which is also great. SUMMARY: Overall good food, nice layout, good hours, AND they have free WIFI... gotta love free wifi! I will be back!

My daughter and I were walking around after our visit to the APEX museum. Passed by and wanted to give it a try. First let me say that I'm leery of so called Caribbean restaurants. Slapping jerk on the menu doesn't make you Caribbean! That being said, we threw caution to the wind. I ordered the lunch special because I didn't want to invest too much if the food was awful. I usually order oxtail but I stuck to the brown stew chicken. It was tasty. Rice and peas were just right and cabbage wasn't too raw and crunchy. My daughter got the beef patty and macaroni. She loved it! I was impressed at the amount of food I got for the price. I was full and satisfied. Plus the mango lemonade is GREAT! and I HATE mango so that's saying a lot. All in all, i'll be back. The server was good. And she's also from Brooklyn so that was a plus. She gave great recommendations.

Went here after class with friends and the food was ehhhhh. My mother ox tails tastes way better. I don't like the lighting in the place, it's too dark for me. On a scale from 1-10, I'll give them a 5.

If I could rate this place zero stars, I would. I've been here about 4 times and every time I go in here, the girls are EXTREMELY rude. They took my order and I paid for a jerk chicken plate with extra rice instead of plantain and cabbage, I waited about 45 minutes for my food and I went to check my food before I left and it was just rice and jerk sauce. I asked her why there was no chicken and she said "they ran out of jerk chicken". Don't you think you should tell someone that BEFORE they pay. and then how about actually telling me instead of letting me almost walk out. I just thought that was extremely disrespectful. I will never eat here again. The food is okay, but I refuse to get treated poorly while they're getting my money. I would not recommend this place at all.

Maybe I'm too easy to please, but if I find something good about a place, I can't award it anything less than 5 stars. After doing a search on yelp, I was happy to find this place on Auburn when I was in the mood for Caribbean food one day. A Jamaican restaurant just isn't complete without roti skin which they have. They have all of your usual options, jerk chicken, curry, etc. As a vegetarian, I was very satisfied with the deluxe vegetable plate with rice and peas and plantains. You're given options of curry, stewed, and one other that I can't remember. I never had those choices before for a veggie plate. That was a plus. I am stuck on the curry vegetable plate for now ( I don't want to be disappointed with a differently prepared dish that doesn't compare to the curry). The flavor is so savory it's almost sinful- like indulging in a guilty pleasure, but its good healthy food. Prodigious portions guarantee you'll have leftovers for lunch tomorrow. The plantains are always properly fried ripe and sweet- crispy on the outside and soft inside- and never banana substitutes! It not a huge place, but it has a nice ambiance and decent dine-in area. Reggae music plays in the backdrop. Inshallah, this will be a place I frequent for years to come. I love you Mango.

Ate here for lunch and chose to sit in considering the nightmare it was to find parking with the streetcar project going on. Our server Bubbles, suggested the Mango Lemonade to drink which I was planning to order anyway. Meh, the lemonade was nothing to write home about but it was cold and not water (which I drink all day everyday) so it was fine. I asked Bubbles what kallaloo was as I seen it could be substituted for cabbage for $1 more. She explained it was a spinach dish and since I love spinach I decided to try it. They have a $5.99 lunch special where you can choose from jerk, curry, or brown stew chicken with rice and peas, plantain, and cabbage. I went for the jerk chicken substituting the cabbage for kallaloo. Food came rather quickly and the portions were humongous! I am a big guy and I could only eat half my meal. The jerk chicken was very flavorful with just the right amount of heat. Rice and peas were not dry- which is a common annoyance when eating at Jamaican restaurants. Plantains were surprisingly good considering I don't care for plantains or bananas. Can't wait to check this place out again. Very pleased with everything but be prepared to be frustrated with the parking situation.

Me and friend ate here on a halfoffdepot coupon on Saturday. I had the curry chicken and she had the brown stew shrimp. She raved about her dish and my chicken was great. It wasn't dry and overlooked, but just perfect. Great seasoning throughout the dish and great portion sizes. We also ordered the mango lemonade which was awesome as well. We got dessert to go and those were pretty good as well. Keep in mind that this establishment is metered parking. All in all, definitely give a try.

I had the ox tails with rice and peas and hot coco bread. Good portion size for the price and honestly I'll pay anything for some good ox tail when I'm craving it! Coco bread was hot and moist, ugh, now I want it again!

Finally got here last night with my Dining/Thrifting BF, just before the monsoon hit. Was pleasantly surprised by the nice interior: not like most strip-mall Caribbean, it didn't have plastic chairs, tables and sporks. Our server was super friendly and informative, though a bit uninformed about some menu items (jerk pasta is NOT in a cream sauce). They don't have a liquor license yet but they're working on a bar opening in the next few weeks. The menu is standard Caribe fare: jerk, curry, escoviche chicken, shrimp, tofu. They throw in a few pasta dishes to be safe...ha, ha. I was there for three things: spice, sauce and fish. Got hooked up...exponentially! BTBF got jerk chicken pasta, which surprised me: he's not a big heat seeker like me. Bowties were perfectly al dente, chicken grill crispy then the jerk sauce blows the back of your head off. The deep brown color of the sauce belies its heat: deeper means hotter baby! This pasta was almost black! Neither of us could stomach the inferno; chef was happy to make another batch within tenderfoot range that was wonderful. My brown stew tilapia, recommended by our server, was just what I craved. Tender, flaky fillet, panned and drenched in spicy brown curry sauce, fluffy rice and peas and sauteed cabbage took me home in one bite! They offer king fish and snapper too, and all can be done five ways. The sorrel juice and lemonades are house made, super sweet and fresh. So is the mango cheesecake. Good prices; even better with Scoutmob or Half-Off Depot. They do both right now.

Awesome food! Clean and mellow environment. Great for lunch, dinner and late night. The service is great and everyone is friendly. It is definitely a popular and busy spot, so even if it is not packed inside you are guaranteed to see plenty of to-go orders flying out of the door. Be prepared to wait a few more minutes, but it is worth the wait for hot, fresh delicious food! Thanks Bubbles for being a great server!

Wow -- first one to review this place! I actually stumbled upon this restaurant after visiting the Royal Peacock Jamaican dance hall next door. Mangos is a small, walk-in joint that doesn't command much attention off the street. HOWEVER, they have a great mix of very authentic Jamaican food (I recently returned from a very non-touristy week there) at awesome prices. Their mango lemonade tastes like it came straight from MoBay, and the jerk chicken was great as well. Be aware -- Mangos isn't fancy, and they don't pretend to be. Styrofoam boxes (chock full of curry goat) and cheap cups must help to keep their costs down. I would normally never have been in this neighborhood, what with the vagrant trying to charge us money for walking "under his umbrella" in the rain, but it was convenient at 3am. If you're looking for tasty, cheap Jamaican food (I'm focusing on the Jamaican part because I know their flavors better than other Caribbean), come to Mangos. Just in the daytime.

I was doing some shopping at the Sweet Auburn curb market and I had a craving for some Jamaican food. I whipped out my smart phone and checked Scout Mob and good old Mangos popped up. As an active cyclist, I was disappointed there weren't any bike racks close by. Don't be surprised if the local homeless guy greets you as you make your way toward the place. I live downtown so it comes with the territory. I walked in kinda late afternoon so I didn't have high expectations for service or really even the food. As I walked in one of the staff said, "what can I do for you?" Let's see...you are a restaurant that serves food so...Hmmm? I'm an easy going guy so I took my seat and patiently waited for the staff. As I was waiting I was reading fellow Yelpers mixed reviews of the place. I kept reminding myself that no matter what, I was getting a discount thanks to SM. I told the server who was pleasant that I had SM and she took my order of curried shrimp with spicy rice. The food came in a reasonable amount of time. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and tasted nice and fresh. It was pretty spicy so I have even more hair on my chest. The only complaint that I had was that my SM wasn't properly credited on my bill. They were supposed to take $10 off and only took off $8 but I just smiled and hummed to myself "don't worry...be happy". Not sure if I would come back without a SM but this place has potential.

Rum raisin cheesecake is a must try! Also have vegetarian dishes. Atmosphere was very chill, live singer and Caribbean music were great. To summarize: dinner, dessert and entertainment were fantastic but dine-in service was slow and inattentive.

Normally, when I go to a new Caribbean restaurant, I always order the fish. I figure fish is usually fresh, and it's easier for me to tell if they can really cook when the food isn't covered in gravy or curry sauce. This place served me the worst kingfish I ever tasted. Who knew fish could be soooo dry? I sure didn't. I'm talking dry, y'all. It was so dry... How dry was it? It was sooo dry, they could use it instead of those little white packets that come inside shoe boxes to soak up all the moisture. Zing. If I ever drop my iPhone in water, I won't use rice, I'll just go back to Mangos, order their fish, and rub it on my phone--surely it will soak up all the extra moisture. Yuk Yuk. And boy are they generous with the vinegar. I ordered escovitch kingfish (normally a safe choice). There was so much venigar in it, it burned my eyes. Seriously, corny jokes aside, it was beyond awful, and I was starving when I went there. You know food is really nasty, if you can't eat it when you're super hungry. About the service: The waitresses should consider writing down orders instead of trying to remember. I swear, I asked for my champagne cola so many times, it was like a joke. She kept forgetting over & over; it was like a comedy show. And you would think with fish that dry, they would have the beverages ready to go. I will note that my friends all got curried and gravy meals, and they loved them. But then, they were all drunk from the club, and I do not trust restaurants to serve me anything drenched in sauce until I know what's up. Don't trust it, y'all.

I made it out to mangos in August. School had just started at GSU and the streets were packed with students. I got my Caribbean friend to meet me here as a litmus test. We were both able to find parking on the street very close by. scoutmob brought us here. So I was waiting for my friend, I overheard the owner tell some patrons that he is the chef and that he is the best chef in the world. I thought this was funny and couldn't wait to make a decision. Most of the clientele seemed like they were people who worked in the surrounding area. We came right near the end of lunch. Btw their lunch specials are a good deal. I got the brown curry chicken and my friend got jerk chicken. It came with seasoned rice, cabbage, and plantains. The portions were pretty big. My friend approved, and i enjoyed my meal. She even liked mine more :) I did pick out a lot of bones though. We both got a mango lemonade but it wasn't really for me. The service is ok, the girls are nice but sometimes hard to find. I am glad she recommended brown curry for me though, thanks! We paid at the counter, and as we were leaving there was a Jamaican lady on the phone and yelling at some boys who just came in to not make a mess. It was really cute. The bathroom is a little old. not the best. I think i will be back even without scoutmob because it has good food, big portions, and it is laid back. I'll probably pick up lunch next time.

OK - so maybe it's because I'm from the Caribbean (Not Jamaica), and because I cook Caribbean food regularly, I know what good food should taste like. This particular day I went with a girlfriend after an event downtown and thought we should stop in. The atmosphere was clean and nice. the servers were very friendly and we didn't have to wait long for our food. With that being said, I ordered fish and my friend ordered beef or oxtails. When my fish arrived, I immediately recognized that it was not freshly fried. It was not spoiled or anything, but I knew that it was fried either the day before or earlier that morning and it was sitting until the next order. The only thing that was fresh to order on the fish was the sauce that was made hot. The fish was just ok. the rice and vegetables were pretty good. My friend on the other hand really enjoyed her food and since I don't eat meat, I have no other comments about it. Other than that it wasn't a bad experience at all. It's a great place to visit at least once. I probably won't be back for anymore fish. hey - this is my food truth!

I was a little disappointed, I was so looking forward to trying this place. I had the jerk chicken. I hate jerk that is super hot that there is no flavor what so ever. Oh, the other stuff, nothing to even comment on. I so wanted to support the this black business.

This is by far the worst Caribbean Restaurant that I've dined at in Atlanta. The veggie plate is bland, no seasoning, whatsoever; just boiled cabbage with too much dill, rice with three or four peas, two plantains and that's it. If I hadn't ordered a takeout, I would have demanded my money back. They have no pride in their food.

bad customer service, temperature of the food should of been hotter, if you like Coco bread wouldn't suggested it here, ( if you like it straight out the microwave) If you want good Caribbean food I suggest island Cafe memorial drive.

I really think people should lighten up a little when they're writing these reviews. I'm not sure if folks were having a bad day or what but I think you should ignore the ones telling you to stay away. You DEFINITELY ought to at least try this place out and decide for yourself. I purchased a voucher off Half Off Depot so my nephew and I decided to go in for dinner tonight. Yes, I was disappointed that they had run out of rice & peas. However, the seasoned rice was very tasty. No, I didn't like the mango lemonade (too syrupy, too tart) but my nephew LOVED it! No, I didn't like the watermelon drink (and I LOVE watermelon), and no I didn't particularly like the strawberry-banana mystic the server brought brought out thinking the third time would be the charm. However, what I did love was his customer service. He kept trying to find something that I would enjoy. And he was super friendly, engaging and personable while doing it! I didn't find out til the end of our meal that our server, Al, was one of the managers. Now, on to the food. I had the stew chicken and it was DELISH! My nephew had the curry chicken which he really enjoyed. I'm not a huge fan of curry, but even I thought it tasted good. Overall, the restaurant was clean, everyone in there working was personable and professional and I thought the food was very good. I would definitely go again!

I purchased a special from Halfoffdepot.com . When I first walked through the door and sat myself at a booth, It took someone a long time to acknowledge me. As a matter of fact, I had to make eye contact with the person behind the cash register. Otherwise, once you get pass the SLOW and somewhat MEDIOCRE friendly service, the FOOD is AWESOME...especially the SPICY Jerk Chicken. On my second visit, I was with my 11 year old daughter. The service was still SLOW. I arrived around 5:00 to eat dinner before we went to the 7:00pm volleyball game at GSU. I had to reload the parking meter out front 2 or 3 times. Again, HOWEVER, the FOOD was still CONSISTENTLY DELICIOUS. My PICKY 11 year old daughter LOVED her Jerky Pasta dish. Also, on my 2nd visit, I forgot my BOA debit card. I assumed in my mind that Mangos was the very last place that I used it. However, when I called noone had seen it. To my surprise, on my 3rd visit for lunch which was about 4 or 5 days later, I recognized a gentlemen that was working that Saturday and asked him if he remember coming across my BOA debit card and he said he DID....and he had tucked under the cash register change box. This made my day....on top of that, I was CALLING BOA daily to make sure that no unauthorized charges were being made. Mangos will definitely be my spot for Jamaican Food....especially since I work downtown at GSU...which is in walking distance.

solid food. not as good as tropical flava in macon but hey it'll do. I've only had their oxtails and they were really good - the gravy they come in is a bit spicy and tangy. The rice and peas is typical and the cabbage is aight. Overall it's a good place to go.

I called in an order around 8pm, and the person I spoke to told me that it would be about 15-20 minutes. He was a little unfriendly and seemed irritated by miscommunications over the phone. I let it go, no biggie. Around 9 we called them since they hasn't arrived yet (we knew 15 minutes was too good to be true so we gave them some time) the girl on the phone said the driver was on the way. Another 20 minutes goes by and we all again. The woman on the phone says something about the driver being stuck in some roadblock and that he'd be there in 5. Okay. ANOTHER 20 minutes goes by.. At this point were just hungry, so we call and just ask them to cancel the order. The girl on the phone just says ok and that it would take 24 to 73 (73?) hours for the refund to go through. We get off the phone. We are so hungry at this point that we decide to just call them back (since the charge is there (according to the girl)) and see if we can just pick it up and maybe get something complimentary, for the inconvenience. Now this is where the owner comes in((which we asked for his name and he refused several times rudely)). He says on the phone that he can't give us anything for our inconvenience, and that the card was never charged. We confirmed with him TWICE on the phone that the card had not been charged. I say okay that's fine, and get off the phone. I check my bank account and it had been charged. So I call him back. To ask about the charge, which he said never happened. This is where he proceeds to say that I am rude and insulting and he refuses to be spoken to in 'such a manner' as if he would let me speak in the first place. He then tells me to come see him and gives us the address to the restaurant. So, I got a police escort (that's how threatening he was) and go to talk to him. After continuing to not let me speak, argue, and belittle me even when I was being completely mild mannered and polite he went inside and fished up a void receipt to show the officer, and we left. That was my last ever experience with mangoes. I have never, as a woman, felt threatened like that by anyone ( and an OWNER at that) in the service industry. If you think you may ever have even the slightest problem with your order, don't go. The owner has too much pride and ego to work with any paying and polite customer, even if he is in the wrong. As a business owner you should never speak or repeatedly lie to your paying customers the way Mr. IllBeRudeAndNotGiveYouMyNameDID TONIGHT. This man doesn't not need to own a business. Maybe a brothel where disrespect is expected, but NOTHING in the food industry. There is no chance that I will ever be returning to this establishment or recommending it to anyone else

Bunch of friendly Jamaicans. Hubby ordered Jerk chicken and I had the Escoveitch (sp?) tilapia. The portions were enough to feed a small family. I don't know a thing about Jamaican food, but I suspected that Escoveitch and Escabeche (as in jalapeños en Escabeche) might be cognates, and sure enough, the fish was topped with delicious tangy oinions and peppers. And the fish was delicious too, fried but not greasy. They have ackee and salt fish on the menu, but unfortunately that's only available for breakfast, also a side dish called "cooked food." Sounds like a silly name for a dish, but just a little trivia here - Dominicans have a dish called "viandas" which is of course related to our old word "viands" which just means food. "Cooked food" and "viandas" are both terms for a mix of root vegetables and plantains, which are the staples in Caribbean cooking.

This is a miss for Scout Mob for sure. If you look at the picture in Scout mob you'll think this is a pretty nice looking place, which it isn't. It looks like it was built inside an old renovated Taco Bell. The inside has about as much atmosphere as a Taco Bell too to be honest. The name Mango's might lead you to believe that they have Mango's on the menu, they do have a mango drink but that is it. The menu is horrible and has no description for anything. They use slang on the menu so even if all you needed was a 1 word description of a food, things like Hullaballoo are on there so you'll have no choice but to ask one of the High Schoolers waiting tables there. There is literally an appetizer called "cooked food" on the menu. The Restaurant itself is in a bad area of town and happens to right next to a package store so there were plenty of people standing outside to ask me for money and make inappropriate comments toward my girlfriend on the way out. I realize scout mob will probably take anyone they can get but we didn't even feel safe leaving this location. The Jerk Chicken was actually very very good, just not good enough to ever bring me back.

This is a great place, it is on historic Auburn Avenue and although the parking mafia (Park Atlanta), and the train is a crazy. The food is very good. The fish is just perfect. It offers a wider variety than most other Caribbean establishments. If your in the area I recommend it!

I had the escovitch king fish with rice and peas, cabbage, and plantain. My brother who is a regular had the brown stew tilapia. I have to admit that I am an instant fan! Can we open a location in DC pretty please!?!? Our food took a while to be prepared, and I felt like I could take a bite out of the table...but I have to say, when I took my first bite into my king fish, all of my annoyance washed away! Talk about a mouth full of flavor! And not watered down Americanized West Indian food that just grates my nerves! I mean like someone's mother was back there pouring love into my plate! I even told the waitress that I wanted to shake the chef's hand. My only disappointment was that Tupperware wasn't being sold so I could take a plate back with me :(. Two thumbs up. I'll definitely return again.

All I can say is...Don't go there hungry! Feasting on Caribbean food after jumping-up with fellow transplants (via Brooklyn, NY) at ATL Carnival, Memorial Weekend Saturday is a family tradition. We hit the same location, off Auburn, because despite the name (different owners each time), the food and lively dance-hall background music never disappoints. Wish I could say the same applied to Mango...which was consistent in 'location' ONLY. Our waitress took our food order and someone brought our drinks. That was the first, last, and only, conversation we had with our waitress. We watched as she worked the register for check-out and to-go orders. While the minimum wait time for everyone was 35 minutes (still ridiculous), after speaking to 2 people who seemed to work there (found out later, it was a friend/customer who volunteered to help) requesting an update on our order, we ended-up leaving...that was after waiting 1hr,15min for Cocoa bread and beverages. Of course, our decision to not pay was NOT challenged.

This place was quite good when I came here. Granted, it was loud enough to make my teeth rattle and the it took a bit of time to get a server to come to my table, the food was good. It was solid food. I would recommend this place if you want to meet up with friends but not for a date.

Jerk chicken was good, mango lemonade was great. Nice music played in the background too. Waitress brought the food to the table then disappeared. Had to go to stand in line at the register to get another drink. Also, the menu said '...with 2 sides of your choice' but the waitress said it comes with cabbage and plantains and that if you want a different side, it's an extra charge.

Scoutmob lured me here on a Sunday. I was hyped, but my enthusiasm for trying a new Jamaican joint (sorry... too easy) faded quickly as I was subjected to disappointment after disappointment. I understand what it's like to run a small restaurant, as my family had operated a popular downtown bar & grille (emphasis on the "bar") in NC for several years. It's not always the high-stress sort of environment one assumes from the impression set by watching TV reality shows or Asian business owners. For the most part, it's alright to be laid-back, even in running such a business. To... a... point... but... This being the 8th or so restaurant run by Jamaicans that I've visited over the years, I have become accustomed to a certain culture and work ethic at these places, and I wouldn't say that it suits my expectations for a food service establishment. But perhaps that's on me; when a restaurant opens and authentically represents the culture of a place and/or its people, perhaps it should faithfully recreate that feel completely. This might be the sort of feel I'd crave, had I been at some remote island food shack, but in a US city this experience was vexing. It has puzzled me that every Jamaican restaurant I've ever dined in has felt as though it's operated by the same apathetic family (the one possible exception being the much-missed Montego Bay in Greensboro - How fondly I reflect upon their jerk wings, sweet potato stuffing with raisins, and parking lot Ludacris concerts!). Was "Hey Mon" on In Living Color not an accurate portrayal of Jamaicans? Is my entire reality a lie? Walking in about 30 minutes after the place had opened, I was greeted by tympani-rattling reggae (modern, pop stuff for the most part, which I don't much care for, being partial to the productions of The Upsetter and Coxsone Dodd), and a Bob Marley documentary on the TV (really?). The place was empty, save a pair of old men just hanging around. The hostess/waitress was very friendly (but not quite contrite) when she broke the sad news: Late start...Few dishes ready...No homemade juices prepared...No goat available today... Jeezum piece! Fine. I know there are bad days sometimes. It's just my experience visiting on this one day. We had the occasional lazy day when my family ran our place. Late openings, etc. But we had a Lethal Weapon 3 pinball machine and served King Cobra and fried bologna sandwiches, not dishes that require hours to prepare and cook. Again, it's difficult to make a judgment about a restaurant after just one visit on what could have been a day unlike any other, so I won't let all of this annoyance affect my rating too harshly, though I think the place is not so new that such things should be fully written off. I simply saw no sign that this was necessarily business as usual at Mangos. To the food, then... Well, Mangos shines when it comes to flavor, at least. The jerk chicken was fairly awesome (but not at all spicy), served with a huge helping of beans & rice (not the best), cabbage and two tiny slices of fried plantain (better than most I've had - not just coated in a thick layer of sugar - but I wished for more). Due to the lack of side dishes available that day, when the oxtail arrived later I had more plantains and more rice and more cabbage. I liked the oxtail, but preferred the chicken. No other options were available. The meat serving sizes could be larger, given the prices. I had to wait quite a while for the beef patty to come, and was let down. The filling was decent, but the dough was drier, tougher and less tasty than I've come to expect. Also, it was too perfectly formed (leading me to suspect it may have been mass-produced and frozen). During the second verse of an atrocious cover of Phil Collins' "One More Night" a brick-crawling behemoth caught my eye. It was the largest cockroach I'd ever seen outside of a zoo exhibit. It approached quickly, but then retreated back toward the restrooms just as fast. The place is downtown and in an old building. These things happen from time to time, but I hope they're taking proper steps to prevent many of these occurrences. For the most part, I was surprised by the cleanliness of the dining area, which has a relaxed urban feel more than Caribbean. It's been difficult to decide on a score for Mangos. I'd like to visit again to get an accurate picture, but I don't know if that will ever happen. Generally (with respect to food alone), I prefer Jamaican Country Kitchen in Fayetteville (really?), but Mangos is good. There is a $6 lunch special daily, but this is a choice between only the chicken curry and jerk chicken. I wish I could've tried more of the menu, but I wasn't given the chance. I'd at least have liked for the owner (who had come out of the kitchen a few times to talk with some people he knew) to have stopped by and asked about the meal and apologized for the inconveniences, but he didn't. Overall, 4/10 (docked just two points for the food shortage).

Where do I begin..... I was lured here by a Scoutmob Deal for 50 % off, and the description written describing Mangoes was outstanding, they clearly put more effort into their advertising as opposed to the restaurant. My BF and I walked in to be greeted by a Rickey smiley looking Jamaican , he asked if we were dining in or taking out. We said dining in so were advised to select our table, and asked if we put money in the meter for parking. After reviewing the menu, which was standard nothing special about it, 10 minutes later a server came and brought us some water, we said we were ready to order so we advised on what we wanted for our meal and drinks. It took 30 minutes to get our food!!!!!! That's insane, the food arrived to the table lukewarm, WTF were they doing back there, clearly the meal was already prepared and just needed to be re heated. At no point did the server come by and give an update or apologize for the delay. At this point I was pissed off, and should have left. The food was average, not memorable, I make better curry chicken. At this point we were an hour in and asked for the check and a to go box. That took 20 minutes. I mean it made a bad situation worse. I felt like I was playing diner dash in real life. Who makes people wait to pay, I was through. Will never go back

I went here for lunch with a friend today we got the lunch special for$5.99 which was the brown stew chicken, curry chicken, or jerk chicken with rice and peas and plantains. The food was very tasty there were MUUUCH more rice and peas on my plate than anything and 2 small pieces of chicken. The flavors were good though service was good and ambiance was cool. Maybe the chicken helpings were smaller because it was the lunch special.. The beef patty was a little dry though... all in all good experience and i would return..

This was very very good. The food had a lot of flavor and at a very cheap price. The inside of the restaurant was really beautiful. The inside had many flat scren TV's and really nice clean furniture. The booths were cleaner than restaurants like O'Charleys and Red Lobster. They also have a bar and dance area but it's very cozy and welcoming. The workers seem to be very appreciative of our business and said "thankyou." The lunch special is ONLY $5.99. It was so good. I wish it included a drink though so that's why they didn't get 5 stars. A lunch special should be under $7 and include a drink. Who eats lunch without anything to wash it down with. =) Also it was quick. I was in and out within 7 minutes and I did not order ahead. Also their plantains were very dry and I hate dry plantains which is also another reason why they recieved a 4 out of 5 stars. But the food was AMAZING!!! One of the best for sure. The best means FOOD+CUSTOMER SERVICE+ PRICE=SUCCESS.

Saw this place on Scoutmob and thought I'd give it a try. The restaurant does not offer parking so I opted to pay the meter ($2 for an hour). The curry chicken was okay. The portions are nice. The waitresses were friendly yet slow. Overall I'm willing to give them another try.

Horrible. We entered, were ignored, sat down, were ignored some more. Asked specifically if scoutmob would apply for the lunch special and were told yes. When the check came female supervisor gave us attitude and contradicted waitress. Were here for an hour and a half for literally the worst (also slowest!) service and the most attitude I have ever received. Never go here.

The food was, quite possibly, the best caribbean food I've had! The atmosphere was cozy and informal. The lunch specials are a great deal and include healthy portion. The waitress told us that on some evenings they play music and we should return to eat and "wind it up" a little. Can't wait to return.

Had made it a point to stop by and try your food out while in town. Had the goat and the mango lemonade and it was very good. What was a complete disappointment was the service. Have been in town all week and thought I was saving the best for the end, but unfortunately was not the case. If there was another opportunity to eat here, I would probably order the food to go. :(

The food took a little longer than I would've liked to prepare so don't go here if you're in a pinch. Nonetheless the food was delicious. The pricing was reasonable. Overall a good experience. Besides. Everything Caribbean is great. And the location is perfect near State.

You MUST try their oxtails and jerk chicken meals, both are spectacular and very filling. This is my go-to lunch spot at GSU, their lunch specials are only 6.99. Also GSU students can show their ID and get 2 dollars off a regular priced items.

Good luck!

Delicious drinks, amazing food, good service. Mango lemonade was TO DIE FOR and both the Jerk Tofu and Curry Shrimp were beyond perfect

Made it there for dinner. Not bad, not bad at all. I like the decor and feel of the place. But most importantly, the food and service were very good.
