I love Los Potrillos, been visiting for some time and the food is amazing, great service and the prices are lover than El Azteca.. I would definitely recommended this place... Also the margaritas are so good.

Awesome food! I came with my husband for margaritas and dinner, they had live music!! It was super fun. The food was sooooo good!!

Food was crappy. Rice was very bland, salsa was super watery. I ordered fajitas and there was no flavor at all, just grilled veggies and chicken. Very disappointed. Service was confusing as I had 3 servers probably because I was the only person in the restaurant. Some guy (worker or friend of owner) decided he was gonna talk on his cell phone while standing near my table-annoying! If you are looking for Mexican try someplace else and avoid this place, really can't get any worse, unless you are just hungry.

Traditional Mexican food with amazing taste. Casual feel and great prices. After our perfect Guacamole appetizer, we ate Lobster Soup, chicken Sopas, Nachos Supereme, shrimp Fajitas, kids Quesadilla and Tongue Tacos. I ate adventurous and was thrilled with the delightful, tender tongue. My young boys loved their nachos and quesadilla. My wife is a fajita fan and puts theirs up with the best. They just opened March 16, 2014. This is a MUST go.

I wasn't impressed with my visit here. I stopped in around 4:00, so it wasn't a major lunch or dinner time slot. Ordered a frozen margarita without salt, but got a drink with all the frozen-ness blended out, complete with salt (but at least it tasted okay). Salsa wasn't great, and the queso dip was a pretty small portion. I ordered an item from the Salvadorian selections, and it just tasted like grease. Despite the slow time slot, service wasn't very attentive. Doubt I will be going back unless I am feeling adventurous.

Decent food but not great. Prices are fine. I will come back. Service was fine. They have a lot of menu items including more than mexican food. That's not usually a good thing but my food was OK. Chips were crispy and warm. Salsa had the right amount of spiciness but too much of something else, could be improved. My Tamarindo drink was not natural. I will not order next time. They have other choices. The main thing I'd i liked my food. I ordered a la carte Carne Asada Sope and Pupusa mixta. Mixed crowd. They have a small bar. Clean restaurant. I'm not sure why PBS, Super Why, is on the TV.

Pretty good food. Not the best but not bad. Standard tex-mex food. The margarita was ehhh. It tasted like cheap sour mix and tequila. The waiters were nice and the place is very casual.

We were headed to El Azteca, but saw Los Potrillos, and decided to try something new. Though it was just the four of us, they gave us the large round table in the south corner. That gave Charlie plenty of space to play with his trains while we ate. I ordered the tamales, well attempted to, but was told that they were out of the chicken or pork... or something. It took 2 servers for me to say that I wanted 2 tamales, and preferred 1 of each, but would take 2 of anything. I also ordered a pupusa with cheese and loroco. Fortunately, the pupusa was delicious. The tamales on the other hand were disastrous. They were essentially cold chicken on the bone and huge potato chunks covered in lukewarm masa. I tried my best, but ended up just pushing things around the plate. Good thing C didn't want his quesadilla - I had that. J enjoyed his plate of sizzling meat and veggies with condiments and tortillas on the side. They took the tamales off the bill when they saw that I didn't enjoy them, so that was nice. The servers were friendly, but distant, and we had to flag them down to get whatever we needed. I'd be willing to try it again, just without the tamales.

This place is amazing! I had a customized order ( bed of rice, grilled chicken, and cheese on top) the food was amazing! The server was great! He was so friendly and helpful! His name was Tony! Ask for him! The prices were very affordable also!

Came here for lunch with a good friend. I really enjoyed it. It's no frills, the best kinda Mexican in my opinion. I had the carnitas tacos - 3 for $5.99. A steal. They were amazing. Lots of tender pork - seasoned well and really tender. Double corn tortillas and lime. Onions and cilantro on the side. So very good. They do not have unsweet tea, not a lot of English, and the guacamole needs lemon and salt... but was good other wise. Thin crispy chips as well. My friend had the chicken nachos. I couldn't try them, they were fajita chicken nachos... bell peppers... but my friend enjoyed them, and there was more than he could eat. I will be bringing my boyfriend here for those tacos... the corn tortillas had a made in house look and taste to them and they were so good. Those tacos... I ate them yesterday and I want them again.

Los Potrillos food is so homey and hearty! My husband said he felt like someone's grandmother was cooking dinner just for us. This certainly is high praise from him indeed! The large menu is a wonderful mix of Mexican and El Salvadorian. Our first visit here we tried the Milanesa, the #3 Combo plate with grilled ribs and pork, and a bean and cheese pupusa. All wonderful and the portions are huge. The price is very reasonable as well - dinner for two with app and two beers was only $30. I've already picked out my next meal when we go back - which is very soon!

Phenomenal! My and my fiancée (who is from El Salvador and very picky) saw this place on the corner of Roswell Road and 285 and wanted to try it for a little while. She actually beat me to the punch going in alone and trying their pupusas which she informed me were truly great! So I decided to go in with her and give it a shot. I gotta say that I agree. The pupusas were great! Better than any we have tried in Atlanta. She got two with frijoles and one with queso y chicharrón. Also, their horchata, as it is not the best I've had in Atlanta, is very good! Not overwhelmingly cinnamon-y or watered down. Also, their service was great. The girl we had, Erica (I believe) was her name. Very attentive and kind and allowed me to butcher the Spanish language when attempting to order in Spanish. All in all, I high recommend for great Mexican and Salvadoran food!

If you are looking for authentic Mexican food in sandy springs this place is worth a stop. The prices on their food can't be beat. Right off 285 on Roswell road. 3 tacos for 4.50. Burritos around 6.50. Food is awesome and not the chain type. Service is great also. We had an issue communicating with our server so the owner came right our and helped. Do yourself a favor and stop by. It's a new place so I hope more people stop by to support this great place.

Saw the new Mexican place just North of 285 on the East side of the street - thought we'd give it a try. Wow. Go once, just for laughs.... First, the Menu - multiple, basic spelling errors (Shrimp was spelled SHRMIPS) throughout Then the waitress - barely spoke English...we ordered Nachos to start - had to explain TWICE that we wanted ONE order for both of us to share as an appetizer (Who orders 2 plates of nachos? ) My wife asked how the tacos were done...waitress kept repeating "tacos" - my wife asked 3TIMES for soft shell flour tacos .....the waitress nodded si si si............then brought hard corn tacos........ Food was decent - good nachos (too few chips), Burrito was decent, my wife's tacos were rolled, and about the size of an average cigar...but hey, at 3 for 4.50 - can't expect giants... In closing - authentic is good - but a business has to have some basic grasp of the English language (Like someone to spellcheck the menus, ands a waitress who can comprehend english

I might throw up just thinking about this "meal". So bad I'm posting AT THE RESTAURANT to warn others. Beware! Worst Mexican, and worst restaurant service you will ever experience. Disgusting! Waited 20+ minutes for drinks and chips! Do yourself a favor and spend your money at a real food establishment. McDonald's would of suited me better.

I was very disappointed with this restaurant. The menu is entirely in Spanish and the servers didn't speak much English so I didn't know what the heck I was ordering. It's smaller on the inside than you'd expect. Didn't feel very clean. Food was served quickly but it was poor. The rice tasted like imitation from a store. The food not as tasteful as you'd expect. I hate to give such a poor review but I just kept thinking "We should've gone to the other place down the road." We won't be coming back.

Horrible food. I ordered a burrito the meat was gross tasted like hamburger meat. The queso & salsa dip was very watery. Will not be going here again.

Based on my one lunch here, I'd say the food at Los Potrillos is good - definitely better than most of the typical mexican joints around Atlanta. And I like the menu - they have a lot of Salvadorian dishes and just a lot of things you don't see at many mexican restaurants (but you still have all the typical burritos, nachos, etc). I got a combo plate that I think was called Parrillada, or something like that - when I saw it on the menu my first thought was "wow, that's a lot of food" - it comes with carne asada, chorizo, a pork dish, 2 small cheese quesadillas, refried beans, rice, and fresh corn tortillas. And it was a lot, but not quite as overwhelming as I thought it might be (I managed to finish everything except the rice). The meats were all a bit overcooked (the pork was not tender at all) but the flavors were all really good - especially the chorizo, which I loved. And the refried beans were delicious and definitely had a unique flavor - they almost tasted ike they had a little orange juice in them, but it worked. Note - they do not serve tea (sweet or unsweet). As for the service...well, lets do a "play-by-play" of what was probably my biggest "am I invisible" experience I've ever had at a restuarant. I was seated and ordered quite normally, then... 1:15 pm - my lunch arrives. When the server (who I think was probably the owner) brought it, my salsa dish was empty and my water was almost empty. But the food looks good. 1:20 pm - so far the food is quite good, but server hasn't come back and I'm out of water and would like more. But I'm very happy with the food and thinking this is probably a 4-star review. I begin trying to get the server's attention. There are only 3 other tables in the entire restaurant at this point, with 1 other server taking care of 2 of them. 1:25 pm - another table walks in and my server seats them. He still hasn't glanced at me, but he goes back to this table several times in the next few minutes. 1:30 pm - I've started trying to get any employees attention (I've seen 4 total) but this is so ridiculous in a mostly empty restaurant that I'm kinda curious how long it will take before I'm noticed so I don't get too blatant - just trying to make eye contact and make the ubiquitous "please come here" gesture. 1:35 pm - I'm done eating and no employee has so much as looked at me since bringing my lunch. 1:44 pm - at this point I'm done with the "how long will it take" game and I finally make a big, overt waving gesture at the server/owner when he happens to be walking across the restaurant in my direction - he sees me, smiles, and walks over, and I ask for the check. I never did get more water (or salsa, but I didn't care so much about that). When I walked out, I was planning on this being a 2 star review because there's just no excuse for ignoring a customer like that in an empty restaurant. I've decided that since it's new and I'm suring they're ironing out wrinkles (and the server/owner sure didn't seem like he had any serving experience), and I liked the food and would like to try it again, so I'm going with 3 stars. If service is good next visit, I'll probably go 4 stars.

I am a self proclaimed Mexican food expert and this was probably one of my worst experiences . Decided to try it out since it was right next to where I was getting my oil changed. The salsa was great but the chips ?? They were so thick and cold . Not sure if they were stale and of course I definitely prefer the thinner crispy chips. Decided to go for some cheese dip. It honestly tastes like something you would buy at a store. A little thicker than normal and tasted off. I decided to get the taco loco because at other places that tends to be a huge taco with all kinds of delicious things .... Instead I got a tortilla folded in have with chicken breast shredded cheese lettuce tomato.... One. Tortilla. It actually tasted fine but for 6.75$ it definitely seemed like a rip off . Maybe if I had ordered something different but tacos no matter the variation tend to be a safe bet ! Left hungry and disappointed . Won't be going back. Service was great though !

Just a warning, the pics of the menu are not correct for this restaurant. I was really excited when I saw the menu pics but got there and it was your typical american/restaurant food for the most part (a little bit more authentic but not alot).

This place isn't very good. I wouldn't recommend it. The food was okay at best. The service was terrible. We were the only ones in the restaurant and the server couldn't be bothered. Not only was the service bad but they also automatically added a gratuity.

Really like coming here, feels like real home cooking. If you are coming here for chips and dip this is not the place to go. Not even burritos, as a Mexican we don't normally eat burritos or cheese dip. If you are willing to try something authentic and yummy try pupusas ,Honduran dish made whith corn masa based stuffed tortilla. I give it 5 stars cheap and good.

I wish there was an option for negative stars. The first time I visited this restaurant, I noted that the restaurant smelled funny but we sat outside so it didn't matter. The food was not that great and the service was subpar but it was a sunny day and they had margaritas so it wasn't a total loss. For some reason I decided to give this place a second chance and I'm so sorry I did. The place smelled gross, same as before. We were the only table in the restaurant, which should have been a red flag. Our server was utterly clueless. About everything. She couldn't tell us what drinks they offer. She just listed coke, sprite, water and then trailed off and when my boyfriend asked if they served alcohol she said no. Then we noticed the beer cooler. We pointed it out and then she said Oh! and handed us a drink menu. It got worse when we started ordering. I asked what all came on the taco salad and she directed me to the menu and pointed. All it said was chicken or beef. So I then had to ask specifics (lettuce, guac, etc) and she would just say yes or no, never telling me all that came on it. It took forever to get our food and when we finally did, one of the meals was cold, the other was lukewarm and mine tasted like chemicals. Nothing could ever make me go back to this place. El Azteca is right down the road.

Being the only people eating in a restaurant is usually a tip off that something isn't right however under the guise of "lets have an adventure" my friend and I decided to go to los Potrillos for lunch since we had not tried it before. This is not an exaggeration, we were asked to clarify our order 5 times about 15 minutes AFTER the order had been taken until after it was served. There were no substitutions or requests - just straight menu items. I can forgive a certain amount of confusion in a busy establishment however being the only people seated I can't figure out a reason that beef or chicken would be so astoundingly confusing. I was even asked what I ordered after it had been served to me and I had finished, (to clarify,, finished a burrito the size of my thumb). Now on to the food. My friend got something,,, I really mean that,,, no idea what it was,, wasn't what he ordered. In his estimation it was a gas station instant mexican rolled food thing that they deep fried... (seriously really don't know what he ate). My burrito was more of a joke than a meal and not worth 5 or 6 dollars (lunch special) by any stretch of the imagination. I would have rather eaten the gas station food. The bright spot would have been the rice I guess. When was the last time you went to a Mexican restaurant for the afterthought side of rice? In short it was an order of nope with a side of not going back.

The food was not good. Like eating a dish my grandmother who can't cook would make. Cheese seemed cheap. Service was excellent, but we won't be back.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
