Been here a number of times and each time it was enjoyable. Similar to most Mexican restaurants in the area, the food is mediocre (maybe a 3). Quantity and price are right on point, but there is nothing especially tasty about their food. The service is adequate. One of the times I was here for dinner, the restaurant was at capacity but the service did not appear to wane at all. Meals were also served promptly. La Parrilla is especially welcoming to larger groups. They have plenty of parking since they are located at Toco Hills, and the venue itself is quite large. The unlimited chips and salsa make waiting for other party members more bearable. They also used to have pretty good drink specials on weekdays, but I am not sure if they do anymore.

This is a decent "Mexican" offering. Like the other La Parrillas scattered across the urban-sprawling landscape, this place offers up everything you've come to expect from this chain. And there's nothing wrong with the food. The food is reliably decent. As is the service. Folks here are friendly. And my friends and I don't hesitate to return here. So why three stars? This place is wonderfully, predictably average. They are a model for the ubiquitous "Tex-Mex" offerings you can find in any number of places like this in strip malls across the land. And there's nothing wrong with that. It does, however, start to become a little cliché. Yes, I realize I'm something of a snob in saying this. But there you have it. Holler if you're coming with.

I was impressed with the quality of food here. Definitely less of an "authentic" experience and more Tex-Mex, which I was okay with. They start you off right with a bowl of chips. These are on the heartier side, not thin and crispy, and they come with a nicely balanced salsa. Nice amount of heat--but not too much. The chips come in a small silver bowl that is, to be honest, very reminiscent of a dog food bowl. It's small! Especially when shared between five people like we were. I believe 4-5 of these bowls came to our table before the meal. The wait wasn't too bad on a weekend, and we only had to wait about 20 minutes. At least we could do it inside, sitting down. And when they seated us, they were obviously more focused on saving space than making us comfortable. Five people to a booth, with an extra chair added on the outside. That's where I sat, and within 10 minutes someone punched me in the back of the head when they tried to take off their coat. That's how close we were to another table! And yes, every 5 minutes for the entire duration of the meal, the chair was pushed or jostled, and I was hit with enough force I could feel people walking by me. Every. Five. Minutes. You know how annoying that gets? How it can completely change the experience of eating out? It was mostly waiters who were hitting me, just because there WAS NO ROOM between the booths and the extra-large table behind us. Now the food was good, and that's where they had their saving grace. The Spanish rice was tasty, the refried beans were perfect, and the enchiladas I got (with verde sauce) were tasty as well. I was able to eat at the restaurant, then have two subsequent (small) meals with the leftovers. It's not to say that the portions were huge, only that I have a small stomach. PROS: Tasty food! The enchiladas, rice, beans, and chips were all very nom. Complimentary chips and salsa. According to my brother and his wife, they have really good, strong margaritas. CONS: Service was a bit slow. My water was empty several times. It was very busy though, so this wasn't that much of an issue. There seems to be a communication barrier between certain servers and staff. They wouldn't understand what we were saying, and we wouldn't understand what they were saying. The chips come in a small dog food bowl looking container that had to be replaced 4-5 times between 5 people. They squeezed 5 people in a single booth, which meant that every 5 minutes I was jostled hard enough that it would shake me in the chair. They cram as many people as possible in there. THE VERDICT Tasty Tex-Mex food, with pretty quick service considering how packed they are. If the space considerations were addressed (which I doubt would ever happen, since that would mean less customers), this place could be a really nice, intimate kind of place to go with some family. As it is, it's pretty crammed with people, and somewhat noisy. The food is worth it, though, as it's tasty and warm when it's brought to the table. The Spanish rice and refried beans were so flavorful and delicious when mixed together. Nomnom. They also offer complimentary salsa and chips, which is always a win in my book.

Me likey! Oddly finding myself at Toco Hills and wanting pizza, I ended up eating Mexican. Muy sabroso! Similar to Chuy's, but the under/over win goes to LP. NPWH - sat at the bar with Oscar; the queso is my favorite kind, the really white, bad for you, un-fancy-by-far, probably heated in a microwave kind. (maybe a little steep at $4.99 for a small). But the best part of my meal were my tacos traditionale - not listed on the lunch menu, but a la carte on dinner (which you can get at lunch) and at $3.50 for a very generous amount of v well seasoned skirt steak, onions and cilantro, plus a little diced tomato thrown in; this is one of my fave choices to test out a Mexican place on first visit. Gets suuuper busy at lunch - the "Office Space" kind of crowd - but ebbs and flows so there isn't much of a wait. Good lunch deals on combos and fajitas (v generous portions). Thumbs up.

Just plain BLAH.Think Taco Bell, but with servers. The service is rushed and the place is loud. Just generic Mexican that will leave you deaf.

I'm not the biggest fan of Mexican, but somehow, by the day I came here, I had been eating Mexican food the entire week, so I decided to go for a salad. My salad was large and delicious. I had one of the newer salads on the menu, The Summer Harvest I believe. The chicken was flavorful and succulent and the dressing, not in the least bit overpowering. Chips, queso and salsa were also really good. My friend let me taste her tamale and I really enjoyed it. The ladies in my party were La Parilla regulars, so their enjoyment goes without saying. I would definitely visit again, on a week that I hadn't had as much outside Mexican food to cloud my pallet. Also, my waitress was so sweet to us.

I've been here several times for lunch and dinner. I think the food is delicious. I love anything with shrimp and their shrimp dishes deliver. It is very noisy. They have live entertainment on weekend evenings, which I enjoy. My daughter got sick off the food here one time so she won't eat here anymore, but I still like it a lot and never got ill from eating here. The wait staff is good and I like the décor.

The food here is pretty good, as are the servers. The bartender, however, is absolutely worthless. It took us over 30 minutes to get two pitchers delivered to the table. About half way through our meal we went ahead and ordered two more pitchers. Twenty minutes went by, and we ended up just telling our server to tell the bartender to cancel our order. The restaurant wasn't even that busy (less than half full), but the problem is that they have been only one bartender who moves about the speed of a snail and gets in a hurry over nothing. If you're in the mood for drinks, go somewhere else...

La Parrilla is a local chain of Americanized Mexican restaurants approaching upwards of 20 locations throughout metro Atlanta. I've been to a few locations and I believe this location in the Toco Hills shopping center is one of the newer locations. The sprawling shopping center is located near the intersection of North Druid Hills Road and Lavista Road. Out of all the La Parilla locations I've been to so far, I like this one the best. It seems to be the biggest and most spacious with high ceilings and a completely open layout. The building, bar, furniture, etc. are all in great condition. The restaurant is clean, there's patio seating, and big flatscreen TVs aplenty. Understandably, it's become a very popular and busy place in the neighborhood. Therefore, reservations are recommended for large groups. I came here for a birthday dinner with a group size of about 20. We had a large group on a busy weeknight and the staff already had a long table prepared for us before our reservation time. Also, when more guests unexpectedly showed up, the staff was polite and accommodating and extended our table to allow for more seating. La Parrilla has an extensive menu of Mexican food, which includes soups, salads, nachos, tacos, burritos, quesadillas, enchiladas, fajitas, steaks, and chicken and seafood dishes. Most entrees are under $10 each, but some (e.g. fajitas, steaks, seafood) can cost up to around $15. The restaurant also offers the typical Mexican combination plates (e.g. a plate with one taco, one enchilada, and one chile relleno) for about $9-10. Many lunch specials are available for under $7-8. I tried the Monterrey Chicken Salad ($8.99) and the "Super Enchiladas" ($7.99). The Monterrey Chicken Salad consisted of grilled chicken served atop iceberg and Romaine lettuce, red cabbage, carrots, tomatoes, avocado, bacon, shredded cheese, and corn tortilla strips. The presentation of the salad was interesting because the salad dressing was served on the side inside small tortilla shells. The salad was drowning in a bevy of crispy tortilla strips, which I didn't care too much for. The chicken was cubed and tasted somewhat bland. The lettuce was slightly wilted and damp. However, the other veggies were fresh, particularly the avocado, which was soft and ripe. The Super Enchiladas fared better. The dish came with three enchiladas: one beef enchilada, one chicken enchilada, and one bean enchilada. The three enchiladas were covered in a generous layer of shredded lettuce, cheese, chopped tomato, and a glop of sour cream. I enjoyed all three enchilada variations and can't say I significantly preferred one over the other. The meats were sufficiently flavorful and I liked the enchilada sauce. The quality of the ingredients seemed fresh and the plate was filling and satisfying. One person in our group ordered off the "American Fusion" section of the menu which has a pizza, burger, chicken sandwich, and wings. She ordered a cheeseburger and the beef patty was massive. However, the sesame seed bun was completely smushed flat (both sides) and the plate did not look terribly appetizing. Another person ordered wings and while the portion size was decent, it didn't look much more appealing. Service was very good. Ana was our primary server and she did a fantastic job the entire night. Our food and drinks came out in a reasonable amount of time and she was proactive in separately our checks early. Speaking of drinks, the 32 oz. margaritas here are absolutely huge. You may want to think twice before ordering one.

Last Wednesday night the family and I decided to head to a local Mexican restaurant called La Parrilla. We were set down very quickly for a party of 5 and brought chips and salsa quickly. One thing did worry me was that there were 3 servers standing by the computer not helping anyone and 10-12 minutes went by and no one came to greet us or ask about drinks or appetizers. Finally someone came and ask about drinks and appetizers. We ordered two cheese dips and a large guacamole which came out very quickly. They guacamole is very tasteful and is made right there in front of you with all sorts of fresh ingredients. For dinner I order 3 bean burritos. All our food came out on time only problem was that my burritos weren't bean the came out with beef. I notified the server and she apologized for the issue and said my food will be right out. She went to the kitchen and got my food out promptly. Everybody enjoyed their food!

This has to be the best mexican restaurant around! Miguel was a great waiter, friendly, fun, and knowledgable about the menu.

Good experience. The waiter was overly friendly and the food was good. I tried the enchilada extreme and it wasn't bad but wasn't great either. Probably wouldn't get it again. The location was convenient, good parking. There were no quiet nooks like the Howell mill location. Felt like I had to speak very loudly to be heard at a table of 6. Definitely kid friendly though.

  • Darby A.

The food was great, the service was not. Nicole, our waitress, seemed more interested in playing on her phone and chatting with customers at the bar than servicing her own tables. Finally, another waitress caught on and took it upon herself to remove all the dirty dishes from our table and bring us our check- wish I could have left a tip for her instead- she actually worked for it!

La Parrilla is your standard decent Mexican (TexMex I guess?) place. Thin, crispy chips with slightly spicy salsa are quickly brought to the table by friendly staff. They have a huge menu with everything from combo platters to salads to burgers to chicken. I've pretty much stuck to the crunchy tacos and rice, because when I go to LP that's what I'm looking for. I had a taco craving for a while and went to El Ponce and quickly wished I'd gone to La Parrilla instead, if that tells you anything. The place is clean and new, and they serve swiftly and competently. If you're in the area and need some queso or a relleno they're worth a shot, but they're not a destination restaurant.

This is nothing special, but it is not bad. I wanted Mexican, but there is nothing authentic in our area. My husband likes the fish tacos. I had a spicy chicken burrito that was TOO SPICY. I will say that the chips and salsa are good though and portion sizes are pretty big.

My boyfriend and I came here for dinner on a Thursday night - we've been past it a number of times on grocery runs, but never stopped in for a bite. Apparently, Thursdays are "Thirsty Thursdays" as everyone had giant margaritas or glasses of beer in front of them - I guess it's a happy hour deal or something. The interior is quite cheesy and exactly what'd you expect at a Mexican restaurant: big sombreros, bright colors, TVs with sports on (no soccer but college basketball that night), and lots of tequila and chips and salsa everywhere. There's also a little patio outside that would probably be nice in the springtime when it's not too hot or cold. Our waitress that evening was very good (and not a hint of Latin blood in here), she was friendly, prompt, checked on us during the meal to make sure we were good. We decided after looking over the menu that includes tacos, burritos, enchiladas, fajitas and other Mexican specialties to split the steak fajitas for two. Should have ordered the fajitas for one - they brought out plates of rice and refried beans and guacamole, pico de gallo and lettuce for both of us, a large basket of corn and flour tortillas and a giant sizzling platter of steak, onions and peppers. Holy smokes - that's a lot of food. I had one tortilla and then decided my best bet would be to forget the wrappers and just go for the guts of the meal. It was good - the steak was hot, the peppers were well-cooked, the rice and beans were a little bland, but oh well. In all, we were both stuffed by the end - no question. While the food didn't blow me away for flavor or quality, it certainly was passable. Good job La Parrilla - you could ease up on the cheese factor just a hair though.

Excellent food! I used to drive all the way to Howell Mill location to enjoy this scrumptious food. I was so very excited to learn of their new location on North Druid Hills Rd. The La Parrilla dip is to die for and the fajita's are the same...... Heavenly! The service also matches the great food. Good job guys! This portion of my review is an update .. Ranchero Steak dinner was so yummy . I am so full and so happy!

Wife and I will absolutely return.. They have made some menu adjustments and the food presentation has improved.. They are no longer just a "combination dinner" Mexican restaurant with 30 different numbers to choose from.. They are awesome

I felt like La Parrilla was the perfect balance between an authentic Mexican restaurant and an overly-Americanized one. The atmosphere/sports bar feel meshes surprisingly well with the Mexicanness of the place. I went with a group of 8 that included two kids, and the service for our group was excellent. Now for the food. The queso dip is definitely above average, but the guacamole is insane. They actually make it right at your table, mashing up the avocados right there in front of you. I decided to get the Texas fajitas which includes shrimp, chicken, and steak. All three were prepared very well. And the beans and rice (staples of any Mexican restaurant) were superb. This place is definitely one of the best Mexican places in the Atlanta area.

Mediocre food, and a dumb staff. There were 15 open tables and the hostess told my party of 2 that there was a 5+ minute wait. Apparently blowing up balloons is more important than taking care of your customers.

Nuts and bolts: A group work lunch because it is a somewhat centralized location for my friends coming from different locations. Pros: Nice deals for lunch. Affordable. Plenty of parking in the Toco Hills shopping center. Did a good job with working with our large group that was arriving at different times. Free chips and salsa. We all thought that the food was pretty good and people were happy that I suggested the place.

The food was not the best and the noise coming both from the loud music and the people made the experience very unpleasant. The meal that I order was well served with the waitress always making sure are drinks were full although she didn't speak Spanish.

Great Mexican joint! Not fancy, but good. Good vegetation options including veggie fajitas, and portion size for most dishes is pretty big.

Lots of options on food. Strongest margaritas in town. Service is excellent. Try the new menu items. Salads are perfect if you to eat lightly. The Mexican Chicken Wrap is the best. The bar has a local feel with the regulars.

I am sad to see this place only has 3 stars. We had a nice time this evening. I would not call this an upscale Mexican restaurant. Not sure if that is the intention. Friday night. The patio is very nice, although it is towards the front door where people step out for smoke breaks. I dont know if smoking is banned on the patio, but if so the purpose is defeated. I ordered something very simple and was very pleased: 2 hard, beef tacos with beans and rice. That is the #10 combo to be exact. I love the typical melty, mushy, savory white cheese they use. Everything tasted fresh, and came out correctly for myself and my two dinner companions. We also had guac which was prepared at our table (ingredients mixed) and was very tasty. The chips are thin and tend to break easily when youre scooping up chunks of avocado but they also seemed fresh and tasted good. The service was satisfactory: prompt and friendly, and our drinks (water and lemonade) stayed full. What more can you ask for with basic service at a casual eatery? Everything was great.

Again, it always makes me sad to negatively review a restaurant when the employees are so sweet and try so hard. I'm giving one star for the nice waiters and cleanliness. That's where it ends. My mom ordered Special Lunch No. 1 - beef burrito, rice and beans. I ordered Special Lunch No. 3 - bean burrito, cheese enchilada and mexican rice. I bit into the burrito to find a load of shredded beef. I don't eat meat. Meat won't kill me, so I didn't freak out. I did tell the waiter that my order was wrong. He was very apologetic. He replaced my order with a cheese enchilada, a mashed potato burrito (instead of bean burrito listed on the menu) and rice. That was my first potato burrito and it was also my last. I wanted the beans, but I let it go. I couldn't spend all day in this restaurant. To summarize, our order: Lunch 1 with coke Lunch 2 with tea And our server wrote our orders down! I don't blame the server. I really don't think he wrote the wrong number on the order. I blame it on the kitchen staff. I'm sorry to say that I won't return to this restaurant. It is hard enough to screw up a numbered menu item, but to do it twice is unacceptable.

The food was very fresh and tasty. My guacamole gets a *thumbs up* The salsa is muy caliente :) but I like spicy food, so it didn't bother me. I visited on a Sunday, so it was packed with customers and as a result, the service suffered because of it. Our waiter was pleasant but very distracted and absent most of the time when we needed something. I ordered a strip steak that came with all the classic Mexican sides: rice and beans, cheese quesadilla, etc... My steak was cooked to medium perfection just how I ordered it. The menu gives you lots to choose from. My dining partner ordered a very interesting dish that I would like to try next time I visit: It was a queso dip with chunks of shrimp, steak and chicken in it...YUMMY! We also ordered the 32 oz. margaritas and they were mixed well but not very much liquor in them *thumbs down* I will visit again because the food was delightful and the atmosphere is very relaxed, much like a family-style sports bar.

Amazing salsa they give with their chips! they have their combo options which are good. If am in a mood to have a taco+a burrito+a chalupa damn i can get it as a combo for 8-10 bucks. I can taste three items for the meal! thats good right! also have a full bar and fabulous drinks on their menu! its in toco hill shopping comples so its easy get in and out and loads of parking. Very busy place. Only minus is its a little noisy.

Our server Jorgelina made my friend's birthday here a superb experience here. There were seven rowdy members of our group and she was attentive and didn't mess up a single order. The food itself was decent. I loved my margarita and cheese dip but could have done without the quesadilla. I usually go with quesadillas because they're pretty simple and I'm not a Mexican food fan. I was expecting just pork and cheese in it but there were tomatoes and peppers and maybe some other stuff in there. Maybe I'll go with the burger next time. Items to note: decent amount of parking since it's in a shopping center. They have a patio for the nice weather months. Noise level inside is....boisterous. :-)

  • Tracie J.

Nothing much to say other than I've had better. The service was fast and friendly. The food was just ok. I ordered a steak quesadilla which had plenty of meat and veggies but WAY too much cheese. It came with a little lettuce and tomato with a dollop of sour cream. This is another one of those Mexican places that gives you a teaspoon of sour cream and then charges you extra for more. Not sure I'd go back as there are many more Mexican places with better food.

Heard great things about La Parrilla. The first thing I noticed when we walked in was how loud that place is And unfortunately the pollen count is too high to sit outside. Bottom line is that the fish tacos were better than many.

Decent mexican and margaritas if you're into that - good value, sure. VERY good salads and nice service. I've been to the Northside Drive, N. Druid Hills & Forum? area locations - they are all about the same and pretty high sound level - but lively and fun.

  • Tanja K.

La Parrilla was an okay restaurant. It is very loud in there, which didn't bother me at all; very friendly and attentive staff. Our table was never empty, nachos and sauces, dips and guacamole was freshly served. But the food ( I had a burrito) was just not what I was expecting. A lot of people told me that this one is the most authentic mexican in Atlanta, I have to disagree. The burrito was a little too bland for my taste. The mango daiquiri was nice though.

  • Sue B.

La Parrilla never disappoints. It can be from their Acworth, Marietta, Atlanta (Howell Mill), or their Atlanta (Druid Hills) location and you will be happy you've chosen to eat there. I've eaten at all of the locations I've listed and the service and food has consistently been good. Their adult beverages always hit the spot. They offer regular Mexican fare but I recently tried their Mango Salmon and was blown away. The presentation was upscale. I had to look around to make sure I was really at La Parrilla. The Salmon was cooked well and flaked nicely. It sat on a bed of tender asparagus atop a creamy mound of chipotle mashed potato. It was finished off with a tangy mango sauce on top. If you're looking for a date spot, family outing or a place to meet with a group of 16, La Parilla is the place!

This was a great option for quick Valentine's dinner before a movie. While packed the bar turns over quickly and you can eat there. I was surprised how tasty and fresh the food tasted. Not your typical #5 with bland salsa. The place is loud and festive so wouldn't recommend it for a quiet dinner.

La Parrilla is another Americanized Mexican restaurant, which means you know what to expect. I've had the espanada fish tacos which are spicier than the other fish tacos (love the pickled jalapenos). I've also had their cheese dip with jalapenos which tastes like most white cheese dips. I did notice that their cheese dip didn't harden as fast as others I've had. What I liked the most is the Herradura margarita. It's made with fresh lime juice and agave syrup, and it was very tasty. Unfortunately, it took a very long time to get; our server said that was because the limes are pressed by hand. I've eaten here more than once and I have to say that the servers are very nice and pretty good at their jobs. And if you have a birthday, they sing to you and give you a fried tortilla drizzled with chocolate and honey and topped with whipped cream. They also take a complimentary picture of you with a sombrero. Cheesy, but it's a great way to show customer appreciation. The only negative were the TVs. The flatscreens showing sports do not match with the spanish music and family friendly decor. They are really distracting. But all in all, this is a solid not-authentic-Mexican restaurant. Yelp 52 #46

Very good Mexican food. Been twice so far after just moving to Decatur and it has been excellent both times. Prices are a little high but it does come with quality. Couldn't hear the people sitting across the table from me though, and that's the only complaint is that the restaurant has been very loud and that was during the week.

My boyfriend is obsessed with this place because there's one by GA-Tech and so he has been trying to get me to try this place ever since it opened. Let me start by saying that I am a fan of free food!!! Heck ya...you're absolutely freakin nutty if you don't like free food...anywho, they have free and unlimited I might add chips and spicy salsa! The salsa leaves a nice kick hat has you going ...oh ok! We also got their guac which they make in front of you and it's so fresh and fab; it really is the perfect combo/pairing to their salsa!!! I chickened out and got their Mexican burger (what don't judge) And it was very delisioso with avocado. The bf got some steak dish which I will have to get next time because I had a bite with their rice and it was devinnnneeeeeee!!!! #nomnomnom Sadly I didn't get to try any of their tasty looking drinks but man people who go there and order those huge margs...they are my type of fun loving people; I've got to bark up their tree the next time I'm there. Hate to say it but bf is right...this place is a must try and you've got to go ...like right now; like stop reading this and head over kind of now !

Food is always great. Try the coconut jalapeno margarita. Its a Friday night, its slammed, but the crowd moves quick and you can always find a seat at the bar. Oscar was our bartender, and service was fast and attentive. never an empty cup! Food came out perfect, and as ordered. Everything tastes fresh. They even had a live band tonight that sounded great.

Tried this place yesterday. Waiter was very nice and attentive. He suggested the fish and shrimp enchiladas (forgot the actual name of the dish). I was a bit leery about the "fish" part of the enchiladas, but it turned out to be AMAZING! I will definitely come back. I hope to try their other menu items, but those seafood enchiladas were pretty darn good...

we had a large party and they sat us fast on a friday night and the service was very good. The food was not so good. I had nachos supreme and the chips came out soggy and the entire thing was a soupy mess. My boyfriend had the carnitas and the pork was so dry he could only eat a few bites. Go for the drinks not the food.

Out of the various LaParilla locations throughout Atlanta I like this one due to the fact I never have to wait when I walk in. The service is decent. In a plaza with Publix and other stores. I think the DMV or Dept of labor is in this plaza as well. Typical food from a chain Mexican restaurant no complaints. I've been here a few times.

I have no idea why, but I absolutely love this place. Their menu is obscenely large and has way more stuff than I think any Mexican restaurant should. The La Parilla dip is a must order whenever I'm here. With chicken, steak, and shrimp, it's super filling, which means I usually can't finish whatever it is that i decide to order as my entree. Service on this particular occasion was very very good. It was so good, it was almost creepy. But the guy was nice (and creepy). Whatever, my drink was always full.

My husband and I were out stalking houses in the area and got hungry. We tripped over this place and decided to go in. Here's where it gets all vegany. So, I really appreciate their honesty, they write in cute print all over what they use in their food- Crisco! Land O' Lakes! Chicken stock in the rice AND sauces! Vvvvvvvvvvrrrrp. In the sauces? Like even in the red sauce on a bean burrito? Phwoar. Thanks for letting me know, I appreciate that because I don't like feeling the pre-diarrhea curdle that comes along with accidentally eating something my body is about to purge with fury if I don't race my ass home. So we stuck with the veggie fajitas, no cheese on the beans, no rice, no sour cream. The veggies were great- tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, bell peppers, broccoli, and spinach! The spinach was a pretty awesome addition. It was a nice meal, and if we do happen to move to this side of town we might be regulars over here, we shall see.

Are you feeling kind of sad because things didn't quite work out how you hoped they would and you've recently moved back to Atlanta to try and get on with your life? Fret not! La Parilla in Toco Hills has a margarita special that starts at 2:00pm! While your problems most likely won't be solved in the time that it takes you to eat numerous baskets of chips and bowls of salsa, you will at least pay less for the yummy drinks that help take off the edge. Also, the enchiladas verdes were pretty tasty, so yay! It's right by the Publix and Kroger, so when you're done, you can pick up a pint of ice cream, go back home, and stuff yourself while watching Investigation Discovery. Alright!

Being from Arizona, this place has some tough competition. Overall, it's meh. I had the special of the day, the seafood burrito (mostly 'cause I couldn't decide what I wanted and I was eyeing the fish or shrimp tacos anyway). My co-workers LOVE this place and it does remind me a little of home, but I wouldn't say it's the best or the worst when it comes to Mexican food. They have a few selections, mostly the salads, that were not really considered Mexican cuisine. That looked yummy, and I might have to get that if I happen to come back. We went for a retirement celebration and they handled a going-away lunch and 2 birthdays simultaneously without skipping much in the service department, so kudos to them for that.

My friend and I walked here from her apartment when I was visiting. The service was okay. The food was okay. I enjoyed the chips, salsa, and queso. I ordered the carne asada tacos, and there was not enough flavor to the meat for my liking. Also, the meat was a little tough. I will order something else the next time. Margaritas were tasty. The drinks could have been stronger, but I liked that they were not too tart.

I ducked in here last night after working out and was on the mood for some marinated steak. I think I expected the usual Mexican restaurant choices, but was pleasantly surprised by the authenticity of many items. I had the Steak Aruchera (sp?) which came with wonderful beans, guacamole and a little tostada cup of a spicy sauce. The steak was marinated and grilled to perfection. However the service at the bar was not very good. I was not offered any chips and salsa and my side order of beans never arrived.

Good food and clean environment however upon last visit spent time wondering if our server was in the back huffing gasoline. He could remember literally nothing. LAP seems to not know what it wants to be. Is this upscale Mexican? If so get some better servers. If it is your typical (yet delicious) strip mall Mexican than drop those prices! Fair overall...

Outstanding Service (Nelson is a GREAT Waiter!!!) and Very Good Food. The Beef Enchiladas ordered with extra Chili Gravy are __D_O_P_E_!__ The Chili con Queso is pretty good too--esp considering how inexpensive it is (makes the PERFECT Lunch!)

We go to this location often. Closest thing to the Mexican food I have had since I lived in Southern California and Texas. The menu is so big that there is always something to please everyone in the group, and the hardest part is deciding what to try next as everything we have tried has been good. Food is great, prices are reasonable for the huge portions you get, and service is fast and friendly. The restaurant is always packed so the only drawback would be if you are looking for somewhere quiet forget it. This place is always noisy and crazy busy.

I've been here twice now and I think it's pretty decent Mexican food. It's not the best ever but it's not horrible either. I grew up in Texas so I've stopped trying to find any Mexican place in Atlanta that compares but I will definitely come here every now and then. The chips and salsa are tasty and plentiful. My first time at La Parrilla I had the Texas fajitas (of course) and they were pretty good. The dish came with grilled shrimp, steak and chicken, beans and rice and all the toppings. The best part of the fajitas are the flavorful grilled onions and peppers. Today I had two steak tacos and one chicken. These were just ok. The best part of the meal was the beans and rice. I'll definitely be sticking with the fajitas at future visits to this restaurant. Overall I think the food is decent and the outdoor seating area is nice. The staff is very friendly and accommodating as well.

My 150th review will also be a "First" for this new location of a popular longstanding area Mexican chain restaurant. This place just opened in Toco Hills Shoppong Center and is in the same building as Mirko Pasta. The building is a freestanding one accross from Famous Pub. I went here with my mom and we were told the wait for a table would be twenty minutes. We opted to sit at the bar, where the bartender, Federico, was our server. Our server took our drink order immediately but got bogged down in serving other patrons and took awhile getting us chips and salsa and getting in our food order. We noticed other patrons, who came in after us, getting chips and salsa as well as their food orders taken. When the food came I noticed it was well prepared but not piping hot as one might expect in a Mexican restaurant. Beer prices are good - my large mug of Dos Equis Amber was $2.95. The food servings were generously portioned. I ordered a combination dish consisting of a burrito, a taco and a chalupa. My mom ordered a chile relleno, taco and chalupa. We also both opted for the "supreme" sidedish extra (which consists of extra lettuce, tomato and sour cream on a small plate). We had a buy-one-get-one-free coupon so the bill for food, beverages plus tax / tip came out to about $20. Service was lacking but the place is newly opened and is experiencing growing pains; so hopefully this is a temporary phase and improvements are forthcoming.

The food is great but the service has become very bad.one waiter (Ethan) asked me if I wanted to lick my plate clean as he was trying to take my plate before II was done. I spoke with the manager Diego about it and he said he would speak to the waiter,. He still has a job for some reason. Last night we went in again for dinner Nichole was our waitress, It took her forever to come take our order, we had to flag down other waiters to ask for more tea-TWICE, the asked her for more salsa and instead she brought our check. While all this was happening most of the other staff were sitting in a booth visiting. This was at 4:30 pm on Thursday-not a busy time. I think there were 4 tables seated. There is no excuse for this.

It's OK. Bro-in-law thinks this place is great, so I come here occasionally. It's not bad, but it's not good Mexican. However, I'm a Mexi-Snob. So if you don't have a discerning Mexi-Palate, come here. If you do, maybe move to NC.

I've long been a fan of the La Parrilla westside on Howell Mill and was super excited to see that one was opening in the Toco Hills shopping center. They've been building for months and finally opened just before Thanksgiving. My first visit there was exactly as expected - tasty bowl of melty cheese, tasty varieties of margaritas (bonus points for having even the flavored 'ritas available on the rocks!), and a general bustle. This place was packed even on a Wednesday night, so at least until the excitement wears down, expect a short wait. Service was very friendly, although I believe many of the servers are brand new and still being trained. Actually my only complaint of the evening was that another server, "helping" our trainee server, cleared my margarita glass before I was actually done with it. I might be a grown up, but you give me a maraschino cherry, and I'm gonna eat it. Overall, the food is good-quality but there's nothing inventive on the menu. Expect standard Tex-Mex fare, well prepared and for a reasonable price. Definitely recommended!

This is as similar to SoCal Mexican food as I've been able to find. I don't like it as much as some of my favs back home, but for this area it's quite decent. Taquitos are correctly made with corn tortillas (flour tortillas = flautas) and the enchiladas were quite decent. The hard taco shells looked store-bought and the soft tacos were flour by default (no no no; should be corn tortillas), but overall pretty good. I really liked the salsa. It does get SUPER LOUD in there though. TLDR: it's acceptable.

Excellent all around. The staff is very friendly and attentive. My glass never goes empty and the food always comes out hot and fast. I've ordered a few different things off the menu. This past visit I had the loco taco (a large taco, like a taco salad) It was packed full of meat and cheese like any good Mexican dish should be. Its is by far my favorite Mexican restaurant. I've been to a couple of other locations but this is so far my favorite. LOVE IT!

I have tried many Mexican-American places but none of them can compare to La Parrilla. This is not an aunthetic mex restaurant, a lot of restaurants say they are, but let's be honest, about 90% of them are not; however, the food is very affordable and delicious. Anyways, this place is very clean and offers a very good service. The margaritas are excellent and everything else you find in the menu is delicious.

Stopped in here today for lunch while in the neighborhood running some errands with a friend. Surprisingly it wasn't too busy, so we were seated immediately and had chips/salsa/drinks on the table in under 2 minutes. Their menu is the typical Mexican fare for a chain restaurant. You have your combos, chicken, beef, seafood dishes all laid out there simply. We both chose one of the lunch specials on the back page (3 burritos) and a bowl of their cheese dip with steak/shrimp as an extra appetizer. Overall the meal was really good. Much better than some places I've been to recently. Cheese dip was a bit on the salty side, but I kinda like it that way. The chips could use a bit of beefing up though, they are quite fragile for such a hearty dip. Although it comes with a few steaming hot tortillas, I prefer chips. Our server kept our drinks filled/replaced as rapidly as we were sucking them down, and didn't have to ask, she kept on top of it without any intervention. Overall a great little lunch stop.

I see that the negative post I put up about this restaurant somr how got deleted. Im not going to spend time doing another review. Bottom line is this place has horrible customer service. Don'T know about the food, because I was refused service because I didn't have my ID. I'm 58, and wish I looked closer to 30, which would still be 9 years beyond the legal drinking age. Be warned, until the restaurant has this post taken down.

I read other reviews and both my husband and I wonder what they had that was different. The drinks were pricey but we expect that. The food was amazing. One of us had Combo 3 and the other Combo 4, we just don't remember which of us had which. Mine was all chicken, 2 tacos with an enchilada. My husband had all beef chile relleno, enchilada, and taco. I think ground beef is gross and I tried a bite of his chile relleno and I could TASTE the chile, which has never been the case at any other Mexican restaurant. The beef was good as well. The salsa was spicy and good. We will be going back next week and trying more. Casey was our server and he was great! The manager was an attractive dark haired lady and she took time out to thank us for eating there and asked how our food was. It was the best Mexican food I've had in Georgia by far, my husband agrees. He said it was a competitor for places in L.A. he has eaten. We will be back.

Came here for lunch with co-workers. I ordered the Monterey Salad with shrimp with the chipotle vinaigrette, and a cup of chicken soup. It was good but nothing special -- pretty standard Mexican food. Salsa was watery and bland.

The McDonalds of chain tex-mex. Every ounce of flavor & authenticity has been stripped from this food. Almost everything tastes pre-made. Was about to order a margarita but decided to ask bartender how much tequila they use and was told 1/2 ounce. No thanks. That drink would be pure profit.

I really like La Parrilla. I've always enjoyed the food at all the locations I've been to. For this trip I had the Texas Fajita Nachos full order. The real reason I wanted to take the time to write a review though was our server Ernesto. When a restaurant is training new servers this guy needs to be the model on which they base their training. Our drinks were never empty. Our chips and salsa were never empty. He was on top of all our needs while not hovering. I would come back to this location just for the service. If your in the mood for solid Mexican food with great service this needs to be your stop.

Went here with a friend and ordered two of the numbered combo that I have received a coupon for. The food was very generic and uneventful. Next time I'll just order something that is not on the "combo" menu and not out of a box.

La Parrilla... what to say. I mean, it's your basic Mexican restaurant with free chips and salsa, drink specials, and your basic, Americanized Mexican food. The servers are very friendly and the drinks are tasty. I like their lunch and dinner specials and I really like that when you order tamales, they come with meat/beans poured on top. They've always accommodated our large groups very well. It's fun, it's friendly, it's pretty cheap. I like coming here when I don't want to think too hard about where I want to eat.

Good Mexican food, good service, and a decent value. I wish they would add cheese enchiladas to the menu, however. It's close to my home, so I go often. Try the steak burrito with queso. And their fresh table-side guacamole is awesome - and cheap versus the typical restaurant.

Service was 5 stars. Place is spotlessly clean. Food was served hot (not lukewarm as it is at a lot of Tex Mex places). Great bar area. So, why only three stars? There is nothing overly amazing about the food. Pretty standard, straight forward fare. Good place to add to a rotation. Great for lunch.

I thought it was really good. My burrito w shrimp and talapia was excellent. A great cheese sauce slathered all over it. My wife had a beef burrito which I didn't like. The beef wasn't great. But overall I would go back. More expensive than a normal neighborhood Mexican joint though.

Visited about two weeks after they opened for dinner on a Saturday evening. The hostess stand was overwhelmed (although the place was not abundantly busy) and suggested we sit at the bar. We were the only two people to sit at the bar but finally had to interrupt the bartender to serve us after it was clear she was not going to stop chatting with the other employee any time soon. I thought we were polite, but it was clear she was annoyed that we interrupted her. We received one word answers to our menu questions and little help in the way of recos. I ordered one of their signature margaritas and it was terrible. Hubby had beer in a huge mug so he was happy! The food was okay - not particularly authentic and everything had the same mushy texture. I had shrimp tacos and hubby had a burrito. Chips, salsa and queso were fine. Might be nice to sit outside and have drinks if they can fix the margarita recipe but the vibe was so indifferent that I doubt it will become a 'go to' kind of place even though the location is excellent for dropping in.

This metro Atlanta chain is a good casual American-style Mexican restaurant. The food harks back to Mexico without daring to offend American palates. The offerings are flavorful and usually cooked great. Classic dishes from Mexico are no where to be found but tacos, burritos and fajitas are in ample supply. Our waiter informed us that the owners are Columbian. I wish they would offer traditional Columbian dishes (arepas por fa!) and Mexican dishes. I always enjoy my meal here.

This place looked dodgy, it's in Toco Hills, but we gave it a shot on a friends referral and now we eat there all the time. The food is really yummy and super cheap!! They have huge margaritas on special for $6 (if i remember correctly) on tuesdays- yum! There is a full bar, the queso is really good and they are really fast! The staff is great! The outdoor seating is a little weird cuz the view is, well the parking lot but it still manages to pull it all off. It isn't romantic, I wouldn't take a date here on a first date but for yummy comfort food anytime for like $25 for two?? Totally a great place.

I need a decent Mexican restaurant within 2 miles of my house like I need another hole in my head. Chips+salsa+frozen margarita = crack for me. But at least this chain has some healthy offerings on the menu. I've had the grilled salmon salad before and it was great. When I tried this new location, however, I wasn't in a healthy mood. So I had the stuffed poblanos. Yum. Two HUGE meaty poblanos stuffed with cheese and I opted for brisket. They were really good - the side of pico, guac, and sour cream just made them better, and the refried beans served in the little fried tortilla bowl - yuh-huh-UM! The table salsa is a tiny bit watery and is missing cilantro, which I love - but it still has a nice bright flavor and the lack of cilantro didn't deter me from eating my fair share. I was dubious about the margarita because at other locations they had a flavor reminiscent of what I imagine horse urine smells like, but this one was tart and not too sweet and not at all urine-y. Yay! My friends had the chicken fajitas and the shrimp soup both of which looked good, but I didn't have the dreaded wish-I'd-ordered-that jealousy as my poblanos were very good and plenty to have for lunch the next day. Our server, Angel, was indeed an angel. Even if the food had sucked I'd still go back for the fantastic and fun service. I love a server who will indulge a Spanish practice session with a smile. Muchas gracias Angel y espero verte la proxima vez!

We went there a couple of times now. It it feels every time it is getting worse. Overall it is a solid Mexican restaurant. But the waiters aren't the best. Once inside we had a very good one - the others are, let's say okay. Cooking is nothing special. You'll find the free taco chips in several meals but for higher money. Inside it is very loud, that's why we only sit outside. But the waiters are worse there. I read a comparison it's taco bells with service. I would not be that strict but it's going into the direction

Good service and live band I had the combo with a burrito, enchilada, and a chile relleno The server gave me several meatless options - they put spinach in my enchilada and offered mushrooms- delicious! The margaritas were a bit pricey - but it was to be expected on a Friday night at 8. The large Texas margarita was strong enough and reasonably priced The live band was great! As more margaritas and tequila came out people warmed up the music Great atmosphere, lively and fun - I recommend this restaurant for mexican on Druid hills

So we are back again...this is my favorite place to brunch on Saturday's in Gwinnett...the interior is super cute and quaint...the food is delicious AND our Chef, Joseph, actually took his time to visit our table after we were done with our meal to check on us and to find out if we enjoyed our meal...of course we did, it was great. My friend and I both had the 1910 Breakfast and it always hits the spot. Don't forget that there are $12 Bottomless Mimosas served until 2:30 pm! They are excellent!!!! Last but not least, be sure to ask for DANA...she is the BEST Head Server we have had in a very long time...Love it here and we will certainly return!

I've visited the Toco Hills La Parilla for dinner multiple times now. Although not the most authentic of Mexican restaurants, La Parilla serves up solid, Americanized Mexican dishes. The portion sizes are very large and prices are mostly around $8-$12, depending on the dish and protein. Be prepared for at least a 15-minute wait on weekend dinners. Fortunately, even on the busiest of nights when multiple large parties are present, the service has always been very friendly. Once seated, a bowl of chips and salsa shall be plunked down on your table within about 1 minute. I say it's a win-win situation - you get to satisfy your rumbling belly and the servers don't have to deal with impatient, or worse, hangry, customers. At La Parilla, for better or worse, the free chips and salsa flow like water. For better, I think. ;) Through the week, the restaurant offers a variety of food and drink specials, including Fajita Mondays. I'm pretty sure there's a special for draft beer on either Tuesday or Wednesday. I literally drool when I smell their fajita platters sail sizzling out from the kitchen. They're a little more pricey than other dishes, though, so I wait for Mondays to order them when they're a couple bucks cheaper. Typically, I order the enchiladas. Both the Enchiladas de Cerdo and Enchiladas Verdes are tasty. Another cool thing about La Parilla is that they will ask you what temperature you'd like your steak entrees to be cooked to, including steak burritos. The few times I ordered steak burritos, they have managed to nail the medium rare temperature I requested. I'm impressed, since I've had steakhouses mess up my steak temperature before. As for drinks, they offer a large variety of margaritas, including some pretty exotic flavors like Prickly Pear and Guava. Sangrias, beer, mojitos, and wine are also available. With friendly service, large food portions, and great drinks, La Parilla definitely will keep you coming back for more. Come here with any sized group, big or small, and have a good time! P.S. You can order a 32 oz, or even 60 oz margarita. You're welcome :D

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
