We dropped in to get some baklava to take to our friends' house for dessert, and I couldn't believe we ate everything in the car and had to go back to get more to take with us!! It was super sweet and super delicious. Next time, eclairs (one of my all time faves).

My favorite bakery in Atlanta. All of the pastries are delicious and I have ordered some great cakes here! My college graduation cake was from here and my friends are still talking about how great it was. My top two favorite pastries are baklava, fruit tarts and eclairs.

I've been going here 30 years. It was the first and, at the time, only Greek specialty place in Atlanta when we moved here. I love the many delicious sweets, but the macaroons and kataifi are my faves. Galatobouriko, which is a custard-style baklava sans nuts, and the baklava are awesome. Napoleon's, chocolate cake's and koularakia (Greek cookies) are a must, too, when I go. I make my own spinakopita, but in a pinch I've gotten it here for special occassion's and it was almost as good as homemade. I love the cheese selection here as well and always have to get the canned dolmades. I was born in Greece and admitting to liking canned dolmades is like admitting to liking Spam in the states. I don't care, it's still yummy. Also, the squash seeds are addictive. Oh, Lord, I have to go there now! Why does my birthday have to be so far away. I like my birthday cake to come from here. It's as light as air, moist and creamy and it doesn't matter what variety you get. Try a little of everything. It's too hard to choose.

The International Bakery is good little bakery right across the street from where I live. I stopped in the other day and got a few muffins and some cookies. The cookies were yummy, the muffins? They were a little dry, and the blueberry muffins barely had any blueberries in them? Thats not cool. I like mine loaded with blueberries! The main plus is the price. Great prices and good selection!

Yummy! I got the apple turnover and it was flaky and delicious!

A hidden treasure. As a transplanted New Yorker of Greek descent, I can tell you that this is a lifeline for me. Before being told about his place (By a Greek restaurant owner in Bremen, Ga) I had to stock up on Greek foods on my car trips to New York to visit my folks. I'm not a huge pastry person, but I have sampled some the the pastries and they are top notch. My reason for going is to stock up on on "Bakaliko" (Grocery) items like Greek Sausage, authentic, imported Greek cheeses, and other grocery items. It's a ninety mile round trip for me from Newnan, Ga, but it's worth it.

I go there mostly to buy the Greek products, and especially the Greek feta, manouri, and kefalograviera cheeses. If you buy these type of cheeses elsewhere, you are doing it wrong (unless you go the the Delkab Farmer's Market and get the pre-packadged feta from Greece -not the one made here or in France, but in Greece). We also often get their olive cookies, which are fantastic, and the kritsinia, which are sesame crackers -no fat/no sugar. They area great guilt-free snack. The other bakery items are good, although not as good as the ones you get in many places in Greece. They are however better than what you get in most Greek places in the States. A comment about the service: I would never NOT go to a grocery/bakery place because the person behind the register never smiles. If that was the case, I would never go to Kroger or Publix! Now, if they are offensive, that is a different story. But the IB owners have never been offensive, at least not in my presence. They may not ask you "so how was your day today?" secretly thinking that they couldn't care less how your day was, like many servers often are forced to do...But they do the job, so I don't know why some reviewers have taken their not-so-welcoming attitude to heart. Last, I've never detected any difference in the way they treat Americans and their "older Greek customers" who "will die soon", to quote a previous reviewer! If you ask me, these types of comments (even in a semi-anonymous online review) are more insulting than the "old grump" behind the register.

For many years now I've been coming to this bakery. Since I was a little girl, I don't know many celebrations and occassions where cakes and pastries from this bakery had not made an attendance. Its part of the family. The owner and baker originates from Greece and tends to have a way with all the desserts he makes that renders them exquisite and unlike any other baked goods you find elsewhere. You can tell he is a master of his craft and takes pride in his work. As a loyal long time customer who used to come here with her dad as a little girl, I certainly appreciate it! My go to items are the the fruit creme cake, you'll find them on the right hand side of the bakery soon as you enter. There are other cakes but we usually only order the fruit cake for all occasions. It is white cake layered with a thick soft and velvety creme filling and finally topped with a tart fruit gelatin and decorated with strawberries and lined with almond slices. Words don't really do justice for this cake but it's so good! Trust me. His Baklavas are delicious and he sells cookies of all sorts for $6.99 a pound and they are definitely worth a try! You can also find other greek grocery items in the store on the outer edges of the store and they are a great introduction to Greek and European indigenous ingredients.

The International Bakery is not only a great place to fill a sweet tooth, it is also an excellent place to pick up basic Greek groceries at a reasonable price. I visit the bakery at least once a month for a variety of Greek cheeses and other grocery needs. The gentleman behind the counter may seem a little surly at first but he is very helpful and actually quite friendly. It is a family run business and it is always a pleasure shopping here. A few purchasing suggestions: The baklava is excellent. The spanakopita is delicious. Get the feta in the barrel! If you would like to make Frappes at home, purchase the Nescafe coffee and shaker. I have one for home and one for work :) And for a small sweet treat get the Vanillia. I may have misspelled that. It is a white toffee-like sweet that you spoon out of the jar and enjoy with a cold glass of water on a hot day...my favorite childhood treat!

My friend convinced me to go here because he said they have great baklava. Oh man do they. I had a ladyfinger and a triangle. Both were dripping with honey. Crispy on top, moist and gooey on the bottom, very delicious. Sadly I'm use to crappy restaurant varieties that are typically tough and chewy on the bottom, dense and dry on the inside. Not IB, though. Really wonderful quality at very good prices! The ladyfingers and triangles were about $2 or less each, and they're good sizes. Quite filing. Whatever new years resolution I had about weight loss has truly been broken.

The location is right in the middle of a street that has a bunch of strip clubs - and hence a negative (in my perspective), but the cakes the yummy. The staff could be a bit more friendly though.

Ok Baklava, Disgusting Eclair, and Dishonest Business Practice I am a baklava lover. I always look for crispy, not too wet (too much syrup), delicious baklava in bakery or restaurant. I decided to go to International Bakery due to raving reviews (especially for baklava) on Yelp. When I got there, I saw an old, unfriendly lady. I asked for baklava sample (I always asked for sample when purchasing from bakery). She was hesitant at first. Eventually, she gave me a big triangle baklava. I asked her if I can get a small one since the baklava was too big. She said it was ok. After I took 2 bites of the sample, I decided to buy the baklava on the aluminum container (about $11+). Before checking out, I decided to add mini eclairs. After I paid the baklava and eclairs, I checked the receipt. There was additional charge of $1.15. I asked her what it was for. She said it was for the sample of baklava. I asked her why I need to pay for the sample. She said "Oh.. It is only $1 and we don't give free stuff." It was not about $1. It was about dishonesty. The baklavas are ok. They (the ones on aluminum container) are a bit too much syrup for me. The individual one was a bit less syrup. The eclairs are a joke. They outside texture are not light like eclair is supposed to be. The filling is disgusting. I will never come back to International Bakery simply because of dishonest business practice.

Love the pastries here! Stopped in after lunch at Tacqueria and picked up cannolis and some cream filled chocolate pastries. They were delicious. The cream was perfect!!

  • Valerie N.

I came to International Bakery in the search for eclairs like the ones I had in Paris. Now, I am fully this is a Greek bakery, so my hopes weren't too high, but a place that smells as good as this had to have something good, right? Eclairs come in mini and large so I settled on two mini ones (one for me and one for hubby), just in case I didn't like them. The cannoli also looked divine, so I got one of those too. Bad news: their eclairs are the donut type, filled with donut goo. Not bad, but just not like the ones you get in France. C'est la vie. The cannoli are huge and tasty, and not being an expert in cannoli, I couldn't say whether they were the best in town or not, but wow, they're rich and yummy. Finally, the most exciting part: HALLOUMI CHEESE BY THE POUND!!! I ADORE halloumi and its often hard to find in the ATL outside of DeKalb Farmer's Market and Whole Foods. My Publix used to carry it, but hasn't been able to get it lately. They sell halloumi by the pound here, and for $5/package, its cheap too. I haven't tried it yet, but once I do, I will update my review. I'm sure it will be tasty - it came straight from Greece! Yay!

discovered this bakery randomly some time ago with some friends. There are a variety of different pastries with mainly middle eastern desserts such baklava. The other desserts were all pretty but they were way too sweet compared to what I am used to. Go for their baklava but personally wouldn't buy the other desserts

In 1972, Tom the Baker left his beloved homeland Kalamata, of olive and lemon grove fame, to grace Atlanta with his talents. Lucky for us, he made this place his new home. International Bakery is a real find. I've always avoided the area due to the adult entertainment businesses close by, but ignoring them, head to International Bakery, and experience a delightful moment in Greece. The spinach pie, costing a mere $1.20, was exceptional. Ask Tom to heat a slice for you so you don't have to wait to get home. The fruit creme cake was so good - perfectly moist cake and just-right sweetened whipped cream. I also had a yummy wedding cookie - triple the size of Whole Foods' cookies, yet half their price (55 cents). There is no minimum charge for credit card, and it seems that Tom's prices are still somewhere in the 1980s era; they are too low for today. I sat at a little table adorned with fresh lilies and enjoyed my snacks, while I couldn't help notice that I was surrounded by fresh baklava, Greek herbs, olives galore, and many tasty and reasonably-priced Peloponnese treats. I admire immigrants - people who have worked so hard and added to the wonder of America, and Tom, the dedicated baker, who assured me that he only uses the very best ingredients, didn't have to tell me that he puts his all into his creations. Excellent experience! What will I have there next time, baklava... and a delectable goody I've never heard of before: baklava cheesecake. It was a generous slice of cheesecake with a even larger piece of baklava over it, a multicultural marriage of the best sweets ever. Looking forward to it!

So many pastries! You can also get cookies by the pound. They also have a little market section where you can get dried goods. My favorite feature...kefalotiri cheese!! I was so excited to discover they carry this Greek gem. Definitely bought some and made some saganaki this weekend. The guy who was working there was somewhat friendly but not very bubbly. Don't expect to make conversation too much. haha Also, don't be too intimidated by the parking situation - they have a couple spots dedicated for the bakery.

  • Han L.

I highly recommend checking their hours before swinging by because they have limited hours of operation. Even though International Bakery is situated in a shopping center with a private lot, parking is quite limited. Nonetheless, it clearly doesn't stop patrons from coming here. This place is pretty interesting. They mainly serve European confections but there are some non-sweet baked goodies. They are located on the counter away from the display. An older lady was helping us make our selection. Although to be honest, everything looked delectable. We settled first with the ginormous fruit tart. There are actually two sizes, but the larger one was only 50 cents more. Done! We also got the cream puff; a generously sized cream puff. The filling was very good. We decided to try a non-sweet item and got the spinach pastry; nice and flaky. woo Aside from baked goodies, there are a limited selection of non-perishable grocery items. There is one table with two chairs in front of the shop.

Baklava, Wedding Cookies and all sort of Greek stuff. Always fresh, inexpensive desserts. The owners are always there and it has a European flavor that I like. Baklava. Yes.

Been goin' here awhile. I know everything in the store. I buy pitted olives here and huge cans of olive oil and gigantic dry beans from Greece and it gets me so stirred up that I cram a couple of chocolate-covered chestnut creams into my face without thinking. This place excites me, and so I try not to go too often. Recommended.

Solid pastries and some attitude to boot. The "baklava nazi". Love the place and the owner. No nonsense.

The best bakery in Atlanta. The french mousse fruit cake is the best cake i've ever had. Very light but the flavor of the mousse is perfect for your sweet tooth. I'd recommend that cake to anyone. I drive 50 min from Suwanee to Midtown to pick up the cake for any occasion of family gatherings or corporate parties...

Tried cannolis, spanokopita, and some other pastries from the case. This bakery reminds me so much of Italian bakeries found in the Northeast, particularly, New York and Connecticut bakeries from my childhood. A wave of nostalgia nearly knocked me over upon entering this Atlanta institution. I will admit, the cannolis, while good of their own merit, do not compare to the ones that I've had from home. The filling is not made of ricotta, I don't think, but rather, some kind of thick cream. Spanokopita was very good, and the warmth that it emitted was an added bonus for me. I cannot recall which pastries I picked now, as I just pointed to a bunch, but I remember them being pretty good. Service is great and is what pushes this from maybe a 3.5 to 4 stars for me. I was in line and an angry man arrived, complaining about a cake that he ordered. I think I was there around 1:05 p.m. and he was furious, because he was told his cake would be ready by 1. Are you serious, dude? He caused a HUMUNGOUS scene and the young Greek woman taking care of him was being as sweet as pie and he was just a d**k. Maybe my empathy for her (having worked with PITA customers myself in the past) made me enjoy my finds even more. I plan to come back and take better notes about what I order and I'll report my opinions!

Tried things I never heard of and it was absolutely delicious! Service is very very very slow, but the bakery is so good people were willing to wait, so I figured I would two. 5 stars for taste, but I rated 4 because of that damn service.....and 5 STARS FOR PRICES!!!!

Best bakery in Atlanta. Their wedding cookies should be classified as their own food group. The eclairs are also delicious. Huge assortment of pastries and cakes that I believe are baked fresh everyday. Everything I've tried, which is a ton of stuff, has been fresh. Everything is delicious and reasonably priced. Fans of feta cheese and assorted Greek grocery and bakery items can also score here. My ideal day would consist of dropping by the International Bakery, buying tons of pastries, and then hopping next door to Taqueria del Sol which is in the same group of buildings. That is bliss.

There's only one thing you need to know about this bakery - BEST BAKLAVA EVER! If you're buying for a party, be sure to get extra so there's some left for your guests. If there's a Baklava Hall of Fame, this would be the first inductee. A Baklava Olympics -you've got your gold medal winner right here. It would be the answer to the Jeopardy question, "What Atlanta bakery makes the best baklava?" Even some restaurants get their baklava from International Bakery. Yes, there's a refrigerated case to the right containing glistening fruit tarts and cakes with intricate powdered sugar designs on top. Yes, there's a table in the middle filled with packaged bulk selections of cookies and other bakery case delectables ready to grab and go. Yes, the left side is a mini Greek supermarket with all items Greek. But who needs that? It's all about the baklava. All presided over by the curmudgeonly owner. But who cares? It's all about the baklava.

You can seriously not go wrong here. Everything is absolutely amazing. As simple as it may be, try their chocolate chip cookies. With all of the other beautiful, delectable treats, I doubt you'll be able to try something so normal. They'll change your life though. 99 cents is a small price to pay for joy.

Just came from International Bakery, but I can't comment on the food since I left without buying anything. I'll echo several of the other reviews here about the service, which is miserable. I asked the old grump behind the counter what one of the pastries was, and all I got was an unintelligible mumble. No smile, no greeting, no offer to explain the different selections (only a small handful are labeled). Based on the other patrons who came and went, I get the feeling that the owner(s) cater to an old, loyal, and mostly Greek clientele. The problem is, old customers get older and then die, and if you've alienated everyone else, you go out of business! I won't be returning.

Not sure if I've ever given a 5 star review, but today is THE day. This bakery is delicious! Once I got in I, realized that my week long gym workout was down the tubes. I went in for baklava, and came out with oatmeal cookies, choco chip cookies, an eclair...oh, and the baklava for my colleague's party. The cookies were so soft and fresh. The oatmeal ones were chock full of raisins and walnuts. The chocolate chip cookies were actually chocolate chunks. A lady was sampling the wedding cookies and "forced" me to split one with her....it was sooooo light with a light almond flavor. You could almost argue that it was healthy for you!!! The guy working there was extremely kind and patient. He is really open to his customers sampling to be sure they're happy with their final purchase. You want it, try it! The bakery also sells traditional Greek/Meditteranean fair that you can buy off the shelves. Of course the baklava was a hit! It was flaky and layered with all the sweet and crunchy goodness of walnuts, philo, and sweetness. This place has the small feel of a great bakery, personal touches, and high quality. Oh, and it was cheap! The box of baklava was only $11...not bad for a full dessert. I hate I waited so long to try- but glad I finally went. Loves it.

YUM last night, before going to taqueria del sol, my friend and i stepped into Inter-BAKERY-National ( i had previously walked in to check it out but didnt get anything). After broswing, i had decided on the baklava and the walnut cake. My friend wasnt in the mood for baklava so we just got a piece of walnut cake. and as I am eating it now...its is YUM! a little sweet....but YUMMMMY. the total price, including tax, was $1.61 or something like that. Anyone tried any of their other single slice cakes? black forest or tiramisu?

  • Ashley R.

This is a no frills bakery. It's not like some of the cutesy places you see on TV, so don't come in here expecting a cute place to sit and enjoy. That is not what you will get. What you can expect is fair-priced and delicious goodies. The place is literally over flowing with items. I came here with one thing in mind, BAKLAVA! And I was REALLY happy with my purchase.

One of my favorite places to get baklava! Definitely for the ones with a MAYJAH sweet tooth... seriously dripping in honey. I have to take breaks between bites but that doesn't stop me till it's over! They upped the price by 10 cents but it's still worth it to me. However, now that I've tried the baklava at Desta, I'm a bit torn as to which is better. Desta's baklava was more nutty and had less honey. In the end, ATL INTL Bakery still has my heart :)

You just never know what you're gonna find on Cheshire Bridge. For all the dingy dives and wanna-be blingy strip joints, there are actual treasures like International Bakery to be found. My mom always used to come here (or this one little bakery in Sandy Springs, but I digress) to get special holiday treats when I was growing up. A friend of mine and I got an urge for baked goods today and decided to swing by. Mmmmm, so glad we did! Coconut macaroons. Moist, just big-enough, not too sweet. Delicious. Petit fours. Beautifully iced, served by the "package." How could I not pick one up? My friend went for the cannoli and her NY-bred palate was pleased. She also bought her dad one of the specialty bottle rosemary-flavored tomatoes as an early Christmas present. I made a mental list of things I'd like to try for future cooking endeavors from their well-stocked variety of sauces, pastas, seasonings and more from around the world. I think I'll have to head back soon - at least as soon as all my petit fours are gone!

BAKLAVA BAKLAVA BAKLAVA !!!!!!!!! DELICIOUS -- this is a great bakery - very unpretentious and established -- yummy cookies and other baked goods -- on good ole cheshire bridge road -- Seems like that one road in atlanta can satisfy ALL of your desires -- got to LOVE that !!

My brother took me to Taqueria for lunch and when I saw the line, I saw the bakery and went inside to window shop. The window shopping turned into actual purchasing a few Vegan sweet delicasies. The walnut cake, cookies and donuts were scrumptous...I actually ate it all before my food arrived (Ok, I did share a little with my Brother) and ended up buying more treats after lunch for the house!

  • Claudia R.

Yummy. Greek. Goodness. I stumbled upon this place in desperation on Mother's Day morning - I had been tasked with bringing dessert to the family gathering but, of course, had waited until the last minute. Did a quick search, and this bakery was close by AND open on a Sunday morning. Was pleasantly surprised to find such delicious treats...picked out a pretty cake topped with sliced fresh fruits and whipped cream. And it tasted even better - it was a moist white cake with a moussy-cream filling. It was such a hit with the fam that they had me bring the same one on Father's Day, too! The baklava and cookies are to die for, as well. And there's a little Greek market inside. Cheshire Bridge doesn't cease to amaze!

I love that everything is so affordable. We had a coconut square and a Chestnut mousse, and they were both insanely good and insanely sweet and chocolatey. Out of there for around $2!! Pretty good when you're looking for a quick cheap snack While I am not a baklava fan, I am tempted to try it on my next visit. Look for the sign that says InterBAKERYnational on Cheshirebridge. My daughter thought that was a hoot.

    (5)
  • Robert M.

Possibly because of the confusing sign (Inter BAKERY national? The hell?), i ignored this relatively close bakery for years, to my detriment. They have the best eclairs I have found in Atlanta. Maybe anywhere. There is a Mediterranean bias to the place, but they carry all of the big bakery standards. They also have a lot of imported goods, but they looked a bit aged, so I didn't try them. It's a bakery, it's delicious, I don;t know what else to say. Check it out next time you want provisions for the 20 minute line at Taqueria del Sol.

My friend and I were looking for something quick to eat before a movie at Tara Cinemas (right down the street), so we grabbed "dinner" here (where dinner-- loosely defined-- was a selection of three pastries each... hey, don't judge). :) I got the baklava, ladyfinger, and mango mousse, while my friend chose the almond mousse, the spinach pie (our "salty" component), and the U-shaped almond pastry covered in chocolate on the ends (can't remember the name). We shared all of them, so I got a chance to sample each one. Here are my thoughts: - Baklava & ladyfinger -- REALLY delicious. Absurdly sweet ("the way the gods intended," to quote the previous reviewer ^^), and the phyllo was perfectly flaky. I'd never had a ladyfinger before, but it's basically baklava in a more "ladylike" shape (looks kinda like an eggroll). - U-shaped almond thing I can't remember the name of -- this one was also delicious. The crunchy almond slices add a nice texture. - Spinach pie -- first time trying one of these, and it was nice. I thought the cheese and spinach flavors balanced well, and it wasn't too salty. - Almond mousse -- tasted more like hazelnut to me, and was overpowered by the chocolate coating on the outside. Still delicious, though (chocolate is good). - Mango mousse -- this wasn't too impressive in my opinion. Couldn't really taste the mango, and it seemed more cake than mousse. I think all of these were in the $1.25-1.75 range, so the total (plus a sour cherry juice box) came out to around $9-10. Not too bad. :) Finally, the owner was really nice. Even on a time crunch we were still indecisive and took a while to order, but he waited patiently for us. I think most people buy pastries and go, but there's a small table for two set up where you can eat if you want.

Absolutely love International Bakery! Only have been there twice, but the place got recommended to me by a good friend with a sweeth tooth like me. I definitely recommend the tiramisu..heavenly, and the fruit cake/tart. Also got a box of wedding cookies, I think they might be my favorite. Go check it out, you won't be disappointed.

This place is really great! Stopped by here on a Saturday afternoon and picked up a sampling of things, everything was really good. There's no frills and nonsense here, a traditional bakery. They have quite a variety of things available in single servings. The fruit tarts are my favorite, and I will def go back for more of those. The baklava is also fantastic...so good that I went back the next day and got a tray ($11 for an 8X8 tray) to take to a dinner party. They were a BIG hit! They also have a variety of Greek items available--dolmas, fresh feta, filo dough, etc. The staff is very nice and attentive. If you go, def grab a fruit tart and a piece of baklava....just heavenly :)

This is my "secret bakery" and it's hard not to stop by if I'm using Cheshire Bridge as my shortcut to get from Midtown to Buckhead. There is a wonderful section of international foods (mostly Greek specialties). Don't miss the amazing spinich pies and the Greek pastries. Try the baklava and the kataifi--HEAVENLY!!

  • Kelly T.

No frills and no nonsense is the only way to describe this place. I was wooed by some cannolis but was heartbroken to find that they are not filled with a ricotta mixture but rather whipped cream. They were so pretty but a complete disappointment. I will give this bakery a second chance if I am hungry waiting on line for Taqueria to open.
