The cupcakes and treats are generally very good, but it would nice if they could hire anyone who gave a crap about serving customers. If they're not busy trying to figure out how to get these two (!) simultaneous orders filled in the next 20 minutes...they're taking 8 minutes to half-heartedly cream cheese a bagel for a to-go order and not actually sending it out until you say "can I just have the bagel already?" This is with at least 8 staff...serving pre-made bakery items! I would visit this place so much more often if they could buy themselves a manager.

The food was average and the seating in the lobby of adjoining building exceptional, as my sweet daughter said "very Zen". Had breakfast sandwich which was a little better than Hardees. Others in group had big meals, lots of food and many happy faces.

This place is fast. The portions are huge. The bagels looked good but tasted like spongy pretzels. Was not impressed at all with the cinnamon roll. It was doughy and creamcheese frosting over powered the roll.

This review is based on the fact that they shouldn't be allowed to call themselves a bakery. Minutes ago, I went in to purchase a baguette. Yes, I know a good baguette is hard to come by in Atlanta, but it's not impossible (Alon's, Whole Foods). I bought one from the original highland bakery a few years ago which was less than mediocre, but I thought I'd give this place a shot. After asking for a baguette, the woman hands me what looks like a giant hoagie roll. It's the length of a baguette, but that was the only thing the two had in common. This was a long, soft, wide role that would have been good for making a party sub. I looked at the sticker on the bag, and sure enough it said "baguette." I asked, "that's it?" And she said, "yes, this is a baguette, but we have lots of other bread, what are you looking for." A bakery that has no concept of what a baguette is? She seemed so confused when I told her a baguette is supposed to be half the width and crusty on the outside. Who knows what else they're clueless about...

I appreciate their vegetarian sandwich offerings. They're a bit pricy for getting goat cheese, lettuce, and tomato on some toasted bread. The soups are good, not great. This is my first bad rating just because of the constant mix-ups. Twice I've gotten a meat based soup instead of what I ordered (turkey chili looks like tomato basil!). Yesterday I was in a rush and did not even look in the box they gave me (fool me once, shame on you... etc) and received an entirely wrong order (BBQ chicken sandwich - are you guys trying to make me a carnivore?) I'm always showing up past the lunch rush and feel like the biz of sandwich, soup, and salad delivery is not rocket surgery.

Yum! This place is great. I was in Atlanta for the weekend and needed a quick place to stop by and get some lunch. The selection was great and I felt like the food was really fresh and, most importantly, delicious! The staff was very friendly and I received my food in great time even though the bakery was pretty crowded. I ordered the herb roasted turkey sandwich with the soup of the day (cream of spinach) and it was tastiest meal I had in Atlanta that weekend. If I lived in Atlanta, I would be a regular!

I don't understand all the to do about this place. I guess I am just so sick of cupcakes - mini and mega - zzz, I've had a sandwich from here that I expected would have amazing bread but it was just average. I also had the weirdest salad once too. It was Thai peanut salad - a giant wad of warm noodles in a creamy peanut sauce slammed on top of some mixed greens. My lunch fellows gave it the "wtf" look, but it tasted okay. The service here is great and the people are very friendly even though it's really busy.

Great breakfast! Sweet potato pancakes were yummy. PB/Banana french toast is all it's made out to be! Definitely get it to share! German Chocolate & Red Velvet cupcakes are amazing. Parking on a Saturday was no problem in the building garage. Bakery was not able to validate, which would have been a problem, but they had made arrangements with security so that we would not be charged- couldn't ask for more!

Aside from the length of time it takes to get your food, Highland Bakery is fantastic. I frequently go here for lunch and have yet to have anything that wasn't delicious. My favorite is probably the curried chicken salad sandwich. I also needed a small birthday cake recently and they were awesome about accommodating me on short notice and the cake was fantastic - probably some of the best buttercream I've ever had.

My office is right across the street, so I only visit for lunch. This part of Midtown is surprisingly void of good, quick lunch spots. The food at the Highland Bakery might be a little pricey, but you get substantial portions, the service is quick and friendly, and the seating areas are better than your average office atrium. It's not fair though, that they FORCE you to wait in front of the baked goods before ordering. It is hunger inducing...

I love brunch at the Old 4th Ward Highland Bakery, but I very rarely go because the wait time is ridiculous. I was excited to hear that the Midtown location started serving weekend brunch! Though the ambiance of the Midtown location is lacking, particularly in comparison to the Old 4th Ward location, the food is as delicious as ever. If you don't mind ordering at the register and eating off a paper plate, neither of which I do, I'd definitely recommend a stop over for brunch or lunch! The sweet potato pancakes are amazing, the cupcakes are delicious (and the many other sweets -- pastries, cookies, whoppie pies, etc. -- all look delicious), and the make your own omelets are nice. The food also came out quickly.

Took forever, out of my bread, forgot the cheese. Not pleased. The manager was really friendly and nice, but the overall service was not good.

I must say that my expectations were high based on yelp.com reviews and I was NOT disappointed. I had the Peanut Butter French Toast, enough food for a family of four. It was embarrassingly, yet delightfully, a very large portion. My companion was thrilled with the Smoked Salmon Plate. Food was delish, portions extraordinary, prices cheap. Would I go back? Hell-yes!

I suppose if you enjoy paying triple the worth of a day-old bakery item and being treated as if you're an annoyance, this is the place for you. However, if you like good food at reasonable prices, and anything even approaching customer service, you'd be better off going just about anywhere else. One example: I called to inquire about ordering birthday cakes and was told "well, if you just want a plain Jane cake, it'll be 48 hours, but if you want something ridiculous like a heart-shaped cake, it'll take longer." To which I replied, "so, you categorize your products as either 'plain' or 'ridiculous'?" The answer I got was "whatever...." Needless to say, I hung up and took my business elsewhere.

The blueberry crumb cake was moist and full of flavor. I hope that the other crumb cakes are equally as tasty. The strawberry cream cheese croissant was delicious but definately was lacking in both strawberries and cream cheese. We also picked up an assortment of their mini muffins that mostly left us feeling underwhelmed. Overall we would recommend the crumb cakes.

i have been to the O4W location a dozen times easily and was in midtown saturday morning and decided to give this location a shot. service was great and the girls behind the counter where very polite. the coffee is fresh and hot but as i was paying i looked over and actually saw one of the cooks grazing off a plate before it went out the window. uummmm not a fan of open kitchens to say the least.

I totally love this place!! Awesome good fresh food and a festive staff. I just wish they were open a little later.

Overrated. That describes this place. For a bakery, their bagels are not very good. They taste like they are whole wheat - I've had 4 different kinds. As for their brunch, it's a little expensive but I think a lot of places are. I think they're known for a few different things but my sister had the French toast. It came out as a full loaf of bread with some sweet crunch on the outside. The rest was just bread. It's good for a quick serve breakfast for the people who work near it, and the iced coffee is good.

Come in and order at the counter, get a number, and find a seat. The ladies behind the counter were not very friendly and they closed the seating section, so we sat in the atrium, which was okay because it was sunny, warm, and beautiful. Food was pretty good. Pimento cheese sandwich - nice buttery bread with pimento cheese and the option to add bacon (duh) Italian breakfast - great! A mix of mushrooms, spinach, marinara, and egg on top of two slices of bread. Served with choice of grits of potatoes Corn pancakes - surprisingly lighter than it appears with black beans and salsa Jalapeño focaccia - get this!!!! Omg so good. I would certainly come again. Enjoy!

The girl who answers the phone on Friday morning is awful!!!!! That on top of the required paid parking turned me off. I headed straight to the Old 4th Ward (original) location. It's like the opposite! How can one brand be so different in service across its locations?

  • Celeste S.

Whoa, what can I say. This place is fabulous! I had the sweet potato pancake and turkey sausage. I could have passed on the sausage.. it was dry. However, these pancakes were beyond amazing!

  • Ashley M.

My coworkers and I dined here for lunch on a Friday and if you do the same, make sure to come early! Ordering is a very rushed process--the line forms right when you walk inside the doors, and there's not much time to look around or decide before they say, "next!" and you're expected to make a decision. I quickly chose to order a half and half--half of their house salad and half of the roast beef sandwich. We quickly grabbed a table and although in random order, the food for our entire table of 8 arrived in less than 15 minutes. My salad and sandwich were very delicious. All the ingredients were fresh and light. I'm not sure what it is, but the balsamic vinaigrette that accompanies their house salad is some of the best balsamic I've ever had... it was truly addicting and I couldn't get enough! The roast beef sandwich, a bit spicy and heavy with its spicy remoulade, was also delicious and packed with roast beef. I'm quite impressed for $8.99! Definitely a good lunch pick.

I was a bit disappointed that this location has a more limited menu than the original highland bakery because I really wanted to try the fried chicken eggs Benedict. Nevertheless, I settled for the peanut butter French toast ($10.99) which turned out to be quite scrumptious. Note that it is a huge portion though!! I recommend splitting it between two people because I could hardly finish half of it myself. It's really sweet and heavy but yummy! I also got a side of potatoes ($2.50) which were also good. Idk about weekdays but on the weekends you can park in the adjacent parking garage for free. I hear the original highland bakery has terrible parking so this is a plus for this location.

MEH I thought this place would be better. It is ok, not cheap and both times I ate here I had hair in my food. FOOD TAKES FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!! I mean forever! Had to wait 20 min for a tomato mozzarella sandwich. Sandwich was not good, I mean I know its mozzarella and tomatoes but it was just tasteless. Just not a fan, would not spend my money here. Go across the way and spend your money @ TAP.

The food was pretty basic. No amazing taste, or presentation really. The largest downside was the lack of seating. Luckily me and my friends got there early after church on a sunday so we were able to snag a table, but most that came after us were not. It's set up similar to a Starbucks, and you just kind of sit at small booths.

#epicfail #epicsuperfail Yep folks that's how I felt. From the time I walked in to the time I ordered and was told she didn't know about any of the things I asked for because she doesn't eat it *insert attitude, neck roll, and why you asking me here* to the time I cleaned our own table to the time one of the staff persons decided to spray a PUBLIC trash can with tons of chemicals as the wind was blowing and sprayed back on us. Yep folks this place was an awful experience. Let's not even talk about the food or the remaining service. They messed up PLAIN orders, had the audacity to get upset because we wanted them to be fixed.. burned the bagels, overcooked everything.. I mean why would I go to a restaurant for THIS?! I hear that this is NOT a reflection of all Highland Bakeries.. I sure hope not, but I shole ain't comfy with giving ANY OF THEM a second try.

I've been to the original many times when I lived in ATL. On my last trip we had some time between meetings in mid-town and figured I'd get a little food. I ordered a cappuccino which was prepared poorly, way too much foam and the espresso was water. I ordered egg and ham on biscuit. I proceeded to sit down with my number, after 15-20 minutes I asked about my order. They said oops, and started making it. It wasn't that good, and they didn't offer me anything for waiting for so long. Service was pretty poor too.

Great place For breakfast in midtown. Staff are súper friendly and the food is always great.

  • Liz K.

Nothing here seems to jump out the menu or have any spectacular dishes. I went to the Buckhead location before and they seemed to have more items on the menu. Midtowns is very very small. So small it feels like I'm at the airport ordering a pre-fixed meal in a container. I got shrimp and grits... It was good but nothing great. I ate the shrimps but grits seemed bland. I would've rather had waffle houses grits.

  • Tai B.

This location is better than the original in that you can get in without much wait time. This location also has complimentary valet which is nice because parking in the area is limited. The sweet potato pancakes are the best sweet potato pancakes I've ever had. A half order if just one pancake is filling enough. Beyond that the rest of the breakfast items are ok. I liked the chicken sausage or maybe it was turkey, whatever it was it was good. Grabbed some cupcakes on the way out and had been my previous experience with highland bakery they were dry. Highland bakery is a pretty subpar bakery. So I'd skip dessert.

I had breakfast here and everything we got was just ok, but the sweet potato pancakes and maple syrup, oh my word...it was so heavenly. It was eyeball-popping-out-of-my-eye-sockets good! I wanted to buy the syrup and take it home, it was so good. Best syrup I have ever ever...ever had. Damn, it was so good! For photos visit my blog!

First of all, the layout of this place is the bane of my existence. There's no direction of how the line for the register should exist, so everyone just kind of clusters awkwardly against the bakery glass between the register and the door, but here's not much room for a line to form...AHH. You order at the register and if you're "for here," they give you a number and you go up the stairs to find a table. I've eaten here twice and each time I have grown gray hairs waiting for my food to arrive. One girl in our group waited 45 minutes for her food. It was a wrap! It didn't even require any sort of sophisticated cooking mechanism! She didn't get her food until she went up and asked them why it was taking so long. They did give us free small cookies to apologize for her wait, which was nice (even though they were oatmeal raisin. Free is free). Their cookies are ok, but for cupcakes I'll go to Holly's in Colony Square. Overall I just haven't been blown away with the quality of food or service at this branch. Maybe I've always just caught them during their hectic lunch hour.

We were roaming aimlessly around Midtown after seeing the Frida and Diego exhibit at High Art, desperately looking for a place to eat. We looked at the menu here and it sounded good, so we gave it a try. Oh WOW. What delicious food. I had an amazing grilled cheese with some tomato soup that was out of this world. Who knew that a simple grilled cheese could taste so good? My friend had this thing that was a work of art. I think it had everything imaginable in it. It had an egg on it, with some tomato sauce, and a bunch of stuff in the middle (I forgot what) - kinda like a caprice omelette. It was amazing. It was served with some fresh, delicious fruit. For dessert, the sky is the limit. I chose 3 tiny cupcakes. They were very good - they have all kinds of yummy desserts - you can't go wrong no matter what you choose. The owner (?) came over and was talking to us and he was such a nice guy - very pleasant. He's the kind of person you enjoy doing business with. You can sit outside or go inside the building that this little cafe is in. It's a huge space with glass windows and lots of light - a very nice place to enjoy your meal. If you are at High Art and hungry, just walk about 5 minutes up Peachtree and eat at this place. You will be glad you did. The menu is big, and if everything is as good as what we had, you will love the place too!

I stopped by to pick up lunch. Mozzarella Caprese Salad on Mixed Greens w/ Balsamic Vinaigrette and bread, $9.99. I asked to add Chicken. Total = $16.43 When I got it back to my office, I had maybe a 1/3 cup of mixed greens and 1/2 a tomato sliced, incredibly small portions next to insane amounts of sliced mozzarella. But guess how much chicken I got for $5.00? Four (4) thin slices of a chicken breast. It was laughable. Never again. But, I won't lie and say I won't go back for the Ricotta pancakes with blueberry compote. I just think I will stick to the HIghland Avenue location.

I had the boxed lunch, with curried chicken salad sandwich, and chips, a cookie, and grapes. My focus is on the curried chicken salad, its really good. Problem with chicken salad is finding the balance between savory and sweet. It swings either too savory or overly sweet. The curry chicken was light not overpowering which happens often when using curry. The grapes balance it out. I read the menu saying it contains pecans, but I didn't taste any. Good I didn't because I'm allergic to pecans. Nothing else stood out besides the chicken salad but the deserts look tasty.

Although this isn't the original bakery they have the same delicious breads and desserts as the main one. Great customer service. Be forewarned the portions are large. The French Toast should be split between 2 or maybe even 3 people! I love that you can get to people watch from the seating area in the building's lobby too! If you've never been and are close to this location I must recommend as the breakfast place to go to. If it's a drive then I recommend the original one for you to make it more of an experience.

I've been here once for breakfast and the food was great, but my experience for lunch left a pretty sour taste in my mouth. Overall, this place clearly cannot handle a lunch rush. The man who took my order not only forgot to put it in, but also missed another order as well (I realized this as we both came to the counter at the same time). No one had any apologies or even a hint of a refund, only an dismissing promise that our food would be out soon. It did eventually come, but the food was meager at best. My half roast turkey sandwich had one thin slice of meat on it, my one tomato slice looked anemic, and there was no avocado at all. I think my half salad had goat cheese on it, but if so it would have to be seen through a microscope. I do know, however, that a bold piece of hair was in it. I wish I could leave with only the memories of my first time at Highland Bakery, but this experience was so disappointing that I can't see myself ever coming back.

Surprisingly good food and atrium seating. Place your order at the counter and find a seat, they will deliver shortly. The portions are huge and fresh. Tried a super Thai salad with chicken for about $10. Could not come close to finishing it! The menu has a variety of selections including tempting baked goods. Gets a bit crowded during peak times but you can always get it to go. A keeper!!

I love Highland Bakery-- the Old 4th Ward location, anyhow. This one is the O4W's deadbeat cousin. It's small, claustrophobic, and doesn't have what you want to order. It also doesn't have the bakery shop (breads, sweets, etc) the other one has, which is a big reason I go. That said, I know the purpose of this one is really to cater to the office buildings that surround it. But...I can't help but feel like they're hurting their brand. If I'd been to this one first, I would have assumed Highland Bakery was just a meh breakfast restaurant. I'll stick with O4W!

I had a real serious case of sweet tooth so I went to get a cupcake. Upon perusing the selection I changed my mind and got the last fruit tart they had. It devoured it but got sick really bad afterwards. I get something from highland bakeries almost every morning because it's convenient for me but my coworker has told me that their pastries are kept for more than a day and the cupcake she tried was stale. Honestly though I don't think anything I've tried here was good enough for the price and definitely not worth getting sick for so I'm going to have to find another option for pastries nearby.

I should have known there was a reason everyone was coming in and going straight to the back to be seated for lunch. My companion & I were pretty much the only ones in line for the little desserts up front. We'd just come from P'Cheen up the street, which was delicious, and we had sweet tooths to satisfy afterwards. Everything looked great; it took us awhile to even narrow it down to what we wanted. I ordered cannolis, a velvet cupcake, and an Oreo cupcake- the mini ones. We walked to the car, and she, being all super pregnant or whatnot, decided to start eating hers right away. Well.. she tempted me. I grabbed my Oreo cupcake and thought I was gonna take a bite of smooth, creamy icing and cake, but the freakin' icing was so hard, I stopped. She had the same issue with her cupcakes. I chomped through the icing and cake, and it was stale. It actually tasted like something that's been in the refrigerator for too long. I threw it back in the box and tried the red velvet cupcake. Same difference. The cannoli also had the stale taste to it; although, it wasn't as bad as the cupcakes. We. were. let. down. Normally, I return something that was this bad, but we parked in timbuktu and actually had a nice long convo about other things afterwards, so we weren't too hung up on it. But, I can't say I'd return for sure. Maybe for lunch or something... I mean, it does say bakery in the name, so shouldn't the sweets be top-notch? Sigh.

I stopped in very quickly this morning to grab a cupcake for a friend's birthday. Parking was a little tricky but only because I didn't want to valet since I knew I'd be in and out super fast. I saw a red velvet cupcake, a very nice guy helped me, even gave me a pink candle for her. Service was great, cupcake was even better (like OMG so good!) I'll definitely be back! I think I'll order a cake from there too next time! Thanks!!

This was the worst food ever. I was referred to this place by someone from Atlanta. I had eggs, wheat toast, turkey sausage, and potatoes. The only thing that had flavor was the sausage. Everything else was extremely bland. I literally left all of the food on the plate. My friends were not able to eat their food as well. I will never eat at this place again nor will I waste my money.

Well damn, I got hit with the okie doke on this one. I walked in dazed and confused because I expected it to be like the one on Highland Ave. Boy was I wrong! This locay is like a to-go, grab an empty table, clean it yourself, don't ask for assistance, DIY style. Nobody in my group of 4 ordered anything fancy. I had a breakfast sandwich on a croissant. Simple. The food was dry, luke warm and the croissant was rock hard. We all had issues and when we asked for, frankly, what we had expected our order to be like... we were slapped with so much attitude. Also, we sat outside and my friend bussed the table herself. Unaccaptable. On two separate occasions while we were seated outdoors, staff came out to shoo away a homeless man hovering around the public trash can. He really wasn't disturbing anyone so it seemed so extra on their part. Then they started spraying the trash can down with disinfectant which with the breeze outside, carried the strong, chemical fumes towards all of their customer's seats! UGH! It was a miserable experience to say the least and there's no way I'd go back to this Midtown location. It's sad because I have enjoyed the other Highland Ave location in the past.

What a sweet little place with some delicious food! I had the curried chicken salad sandwich and it was super good! I also had a mini cupcake - chocolate with peanut butter - yum! The sitting area was really quaint and comfortable for a late lunch. Hoping to go back and try some pancakes!

Went here with a couple friends for a quick lunch. I heard great things about Highland Bakery, but only when I got there did I realize that everyone was raving about the original Highland Bakery and not this one. No worries, this place should have a similar feel/vibe/taste. I don't think it did/does, as I was not thoroughly impressed with the food. It is good and filling, but not the cult-following inducing good that I've heard Highland Bakery causes. I had the reuben with chips. The meat was good and the sauerkraut tasted homemade as opposed to industrially crafted, but it didn't put me over the top. If I came in with no expectations, I think I would have left with a smile. Instead I left with the thought, "good, but not great."

Delicious sandwiches. My sister had the Hummus (vegetarian) Sandwich, while I had their famous Turkey Sandwich. Both came with the most addicting (crunchy!) chips. Afterward, we ordered 6 mini cupcakes - which were good. Not great. BUT!! I also ordered their Chocolate Chip Cookie (with WALNUTS!! YUM!). It was undeniably the BEST cookie I've EVER had in my LIFE!!!! BEST BEST BEST!!!! Get the cookie. :)

I typically go for breakfast and the ladies behind the counter are quick to greet and ask if there's anything they can help with. Co-workers and I will go when we have had a rough day and need a treat. This has been our go-to place for such a treat. The little cupcakes are the perfect size to enjoy a couple different offerings.

This is a coffeehouse type place that serves outstanding breakfast & decent caffeinated drinks. I got the salmon platter with cream cheese & a bagel, which I very much enjoyed. There's hearty food on the menu that looked appetizing, and if I had the time, I would've grabbed a tasty looking cupcake to go. What makes it a gem is the way they've set up the seating area. Once you've ordered you take your assigned number to the table of your choice until they bring breakfast to you. Pretty patterns & spacious seating help make it a cosy, southern breakfast.

I'm a fan of baked goods so I was so looking forward to this place blowing my socks off. The food I saw being served during the brunch hour looked amazing, but we were there simply for the sweets. We tried the cake pop and it seemed to be underdone. I've had my fair share of cake pops so I was expecting a certain texture. This pop was soft and gooey on the inside somewhat like the consistency of a soft brownie...not at all what I expected. The miniature doughnuts were dry and lacked that WoW factor we were looking for. The miniature cupcakes were just 'blah'. The gourmet cupcake craze is taking over, but many places are missing the mark. It's not just about a cute cupcake; it has to be good as well. One thing that knocked my socks off was the blueberry crumb cake. It was moist and truly delicious; however, it wasn't enough to make me come back.

Been coming here since the place opened up in our building. The good thing about this restaurant is the personal feel that many of the workers there provide. Most recently (past few weeks), I have noticed a change in the mood of the employees. Many of the long standing workers that enjoy the place look tired, beat and upset. Not a good look for this place. The only noticeable change is the manager. I witnessed him getting on to an employee during peak hours at lunch time this week. Sad to see the personal touch go.....might just have to start visiting Panera down the street.

Though Midtown has plenty of interesting restaurants, this particular block or two is overwhelmed by large hotels and office buildings. In fact, this location's office-building address leads you to believe it's on Peachtree (of which there are two), when it's actually on 14th. Thus, the breakfast options are limited to overpriced hotel breakfasts, Einstein's, Starbucks, and Highland Bakery. If you want an egg that costs less than $15 and is not cooked in a microwave, Highland Bakery is your best bet. They have a nice array of baked goods and a decent number of skillet-inspired options. The class of the menu is balanced out by the paper plates and office-lobby seating.

Highly recommended! Stopped in for breakfast and enjoyed an excellent breakfast sandwich. On the way out the miniature cupcakes caught my eye and we ordered a few for later in the day. They were delicious.

The parking attendant was nowhere to be found so we had to search for 10 floors for a parking space before we could go in. Not Highland Bakery's fault, but FYI. Also they only vaildate for an hour. It smelled delicious when we walked in and I got really excited about the different menu items. I ordered the challah bread peanut butter and banana French toast. It did not come out at all like I imagined. It was basically half a loaf of challah bread, and it was not "French toast" at all...I couldn't find any egg whatsoever. So it was basically four HUGE slices of challah bread with peanut butter in the middle like a sandwich. And half a banana chopped up on top. I ate most of the peanut butter part but I felt like I was just eating peanut butter...and bread. For $8.99. I also ordered turkey sausage ($2.59) which was a little on the bland side, and grits ($2.59). The grits were okay. Boyfriend ordered the BLT breakfast sandwich and I wish I had because his was delicious. It had an egg cooked his way, bacon, tomato and a really leafy green salad-style lettuce which was really fresh. He also got a regular biscuit and a sweet potato biscuit, both of which were clearly homemade and SO GOOD. I could eat those biscuits with everything. So we didn't try any of their desserts but I have a feeling their fresh baked goods are where the good ratings are. We'll come back and try it again, sans french toast next time.

It was never my intent to visit each Highland Bakery location, but while in the midtown area, I thought i'd pay this place a visit, because i'm always up for a cupcake. Speaking of, I grabbed four of the large red velvet cupcakes ($2.99 each), and a couple of the smaller size ones at $.99 each. This was a to go order but even still, the staff was very friendly and greeted me as soon as I walked in, with smiles. They handled my order with care, and validated my parking from the next door parking deck (but they only validate it for an hour, so keep an eye on your time). The cupcakes were and are pretty awesome. Usually it's the icing I love about red velvet cake, however, it's the actual cake in this cupcake that's packing the flavor. Very moist, very tasty, and works great with the icing. It's also so big you have to use a fork/spoon to eat it. I must admit to liking the highland road location a bit better, but i'd happily pay this location another visit.

LACKLUSTER AT BEST. Short on service; long on wait time. Extremely odd layout; no sense of order or organization. Where is the manager/owner? Clearly, not at this location. I stood at the counter for at least five-eight minutes (seemed like an eternity) while a staff of approximately eight people ignored me. The order taker was on the phone, four cooks were clustered in the "kitchen" staring at the patrons, two other employees were leaned against the wall/shower curtain thing staring blankly at each other and the cooks while ignoring the patrons, and three other employees were behind the bakery case playing with pastries. No one acknowledged me or the three guests behind me for nearly 10 minutes. Is this an actual business? Do they want customers?? Can't tell for sure.

The cupcakes and cookies are alright - not great, but not bad. Nothing to rave about. I liked the red velvet cupcake and the chocolate cupcake, but some of my friends disliked the taste of the frosting. The blueberry muffin tastes surprisingly healthy - an illusion created by the presence of rolled oats in that muffin. The bagels and the Greek potatoes are solid.

Recently, I had business associates intown for the Gift Market, staying across the street at the Four Seasons. I met them there, and we decided to walk across the street to HB. What a cozy place, in one of Atlanta's hi-rises. We didn't want to spend a lot of money on breakfast, and HB was the perfect place. Placed our orders at the register, walked upstairs, had a seat, and waited on breakfast. The manager, I believe his name is Mike, helped bring our food to the table, and made sure we had everything we needed. Fun, fast, excellent staff and management, and the food was just too wonderful.

Thank you for another successful breakfast for my team @ work. There 18 of us (give or take). The Manager, Chris, was extremely helpful. I made it easy by emailing him a spreadsheet of everyone's order. Can you believe that we all received our hot breakfast orders and were able to eat and everything within an hour? AMAZING! Oh...if you have not tried it before, you MUST.. you MUST .. you MUST try a Sweet Potato Biscuit. They are to die for!

This place was a pleasant surprise to me; I'd done no research before basically being told "We're breakfasting at Highland." I was expecting some fru-fru nuts, berries, and pastries, and I was so pleased to find MAN BREAKFAST available. I built my own omelette with jalepenos, ham, onion, and cream cheese. It was fantastic. I opted for the grits, and I got a cinnamon roll. I had the roll while the rest was cooking, and I thought it was pretty lame. Skip it. The gingersnap cookies, though, those are a prize. When my plate arrived, I had the breakfast potatoes instead of grits. I informed the waiter, and he said, "keep em, I'll bring you some grits. Want cheese in them?" WHAT?! An UPGRADE and an apology from counter-service? HECKYEAH! The Potatoes are hella good. The grits are nothing special at all; your typical, bland (although they LOOK great), boring grits. You gotta get those potatoes, they are something special. Overall, this place was a great experience and an exceptional value. My plate was enough for two people, without the extra grits.

I'm intrigued enough to return, but there are other brunch places I would try first over coming here again very soon. It took a long time for me to pay Highland Bakery a visit because the Midtown location was never open on the weekends. I tried to go to the original location once, but was put off by the extremely long line. I am not sure when they did decide to open on Saturdays, but I am happy they did. You order at the counter and they bring your food to the table. They had a lot of delicious-sounding breakfast and lunch items, but I really wanted to try one of their simpler items, the ricotta pancakes with warm blueberry compote. I am not normally a pancake person, but for some odd reason, I was craving them and was curious about the ricotta. The BF ordered their spinach salad with a scoop of tuna salad on top. I received three enormous pancakes on a cardboard plate. I was a bit surprised at the disposable dining ware, but oh well. There was definitely not enough compote to eat with all three pancakes. The pancakes were very... wet. I have never had ricotta pancakes, so I am not sure what the texture should be, but I chalked up the wetness/moistness to the ricotta. I mean, the pancakes were decent. I just wish they had given less and served them with some eggs and bacon or something. It is just too much pancakes for one person. As for the BF's salad, I loved the combination of the goat cheese, strawberries, candied pecans and fresh baby spinach. It's a classic combination and totally delicious. Their tuna salad was a bit strange tasting though. Not that it had gone bad or anything, but it had a different sort of flavor. My BF said they had overdone it on the Italian seasoning or something. I have never heard of Italian seasoning in tuna salad. Oh, he ordered a half portion and it was absolutely gigantic -- it looked like a full portion at a normal place, so I can't imagine what Highland's full portion looks like. Once I hit up all the brunch places on my to-try list, I will probably swing by Highland Bakery again. But no pancakes next time.

Highland Bakery as a brand gets a lot of traction--the mere mention of it will evoke visions of sweet potato pancakes, tofu scrambles, and giant cupcakes. This particular incarnation of Highland Bakery, however, loses something in the translation from O4W to Midtown. My recent visit found me ordering a Highland Breakfast (two eggs scrambled with turkey sausage, toast, and grits). I waited a very long time for my food to arrive, and I noticed numerous other patrons expressing dismay at the slowness. I suspect there may have been a staffer missing in the kitchen, but given its tiny, tiny size, I honestly can't imagine anyone else fitting back there. After my long wait, the server delivered a plate of food of such utter blandness that not even numerous splashes of tabasco could rescue. Were I to return, I'd stick to the pre-prepared baked goods.

DON'T EAT HERE, YOU WILL BE COME AN ADDICT! Their food is so freakin' GOOD (because this a public forum I am trying to softening my language) it induces on the spot involuntary profanity. When my friend asked my how my food was I could only respond, "so f'ing good" with a glazed look of ecstasy. Incident #2 of involuntary profanity: When I took the last bite of the PEANUT BUTTER FRENCH TOAST ( too good not to be in caps) I heard him whisper a profane name under his breath as he watched the last little piece of heaven disappear into my mouth. I could only laugh and tell him I understood his feelings of discontent. I am sure nobody will be surprised when I say, I went back the next day. I had to, there was a "Curried Chicken Salad Sandwich on a Kaiser roll" waiting for me, and I did not want to hurt its feelings :) And with my head held I will be back in there today for the Smoked Salmon Plate...amen. Beyond the food being amazing the staff was AMAZING. Rick Coscia the General Manger set the tone when I walked in with a big smile and warm greeting. He loves his job and it was apparent in the way handled each person that came in, spoke about the food, provided fun facts about the Highland Bakery, and kept saying, " I love my job". Cee Cee ( CC, CeCe, See See not sure how she spells it but I wanted to cover all my bases lol) was great and so was the rest of the staff. I am new to the city and I am happy that I have found a place that makes home not feel so far away. I love that they make everything fresh, use recyclable products, and take pride in the work they do. Thank you Carla for recommending HB and turning me into an addict ;)

I really enjoyed the breakfast I had at Highland Bakery. The blueberry pancakes were fresh, light, fluffy and delicious! The turkey sausage was flavorful. Basically this is an office cafe - meaning located at the bottom of a high rise building. So you have to know this and park in the high rise parking structure. But don't worry! They will validate your parking. It's very casual - you order at the counter and they bring the food to you. Very good - I will return.

How could this happen without me knowing? Here I am, struggling to make it through morning workouts from time to time, and this knight in shining wheat-colored armor has come to rescue me! I decided to be a good little damsel in sweaty distress this morning and went with a croissant and cream cheese. It may sound plain, but you can tell these aren't the bagged crap you get at a grocery store. This was so fresh and flakey, lightly toasted and not at all greasy... oh my. It's probably fortunate that I don't often do morning work outs because they'd become pointless with me coming here all the time... Next time I'm caving and drowning in those cupcakes. How unfair to put them out with the breakfast food... Oreo cupcake, YOU WILL BE MINE. At $2.95 for a HUGE mountain of a cupcake, I'd say it's a fair price for another breakfast run down the road. TL;DR - NOM.

Great place for brunch. Free valet parking is great as well. I had the French Toast and it was huge and to die for. Thoroughly killed it and really wanted more but was way too full. I highly recommend it!

Three of us went here for Sunday Brunch without much research. The restaurant is available half a block down from Peachtree St on 14th. You seat yourself after receiving a number while ordering at the bakery counter. The staff will also take your drink order as you queue up. You pick up your drinks at the counter which not everyone seemed to understand. It also leads to a bit of clutter as people stand around the ordering line waiting for their drink. The staff seemed a little ornery trying to connect customers with their drinks. Condiments and boxes for leftovers can be found across from the bakery counter. We all ordered coffee (a latte, a chai latte and a straight coffee). The drink orders were prepared quickly and everyone was more or less satisfied. The menu is pretty standard fare with a few dishes which seemed to warrant investigation. One such dish was the peanut butter french toast. This comes with bananas and a drenching of caramel sauce. The french toast was very thick and as a result a little dry. The dish overall was very sweet, probably too sweet for most. It could easily be split and given that it is very reasonably priced. However, bananas are sparse and just sort of thrown on. This left the presentation kind of crudely done. Overall, this was the best dish we had in terms of value but nothing special. We also had a burrito de huevos. This dish is mostly just a tortilla wrapped around eggs served with beans. The portion size is again generous but the flavor is extremely forgettable and the presentation sloppy. Finally, we had an omelet where we chose the fillings. Definitely the worst value of the three dishes, a barely noticeable addition of pepper, onions, mushrooms, etc., cost 60 cents each to add. This added up quickly. Additionally, we got a double helping of meat but you would never know it. The spinach was way over cooked and for some reason all the fillings were served on the side. Worse yet, the egg was very thick and unremarkable. Altogether, it was overpriced and very disappointing. I admit that we didn't get any of their baked goods so this might be an unfair assessment of something dubbed a bakery but I can't recommend this place for brunch. I'm sure Atlanta can do better.

Maybe the original location is better, but I just didn't enjoy the food at the midtown spot. Too bad, since it's a few blocks from where I live. First off, they do a great job with having enough staff and being real friends when you come in and order. They definitely have that party down. The food is where they were off the morning we were in. I had a breakfast sandwich that was fine. It's pretty hard to screw it up. My girlfriend had the French Toast and both of us really didn't like whatever sauce it came with. Brown sugar butter I think. I'm not sure what it is, but it's very unpleasant. I'm hoping the sauce was burned or something like that... This place is more focused on the dude or gal walking to work in a nearby office building so they're more focused on drinks and pastries, but they need a better hand in the kitchen. I wish they were open on the weekend so I could give them another shot.

I have to add an update for the baked goods. The red velvet cake has become an addiction of mine; I look for reasons to buy it. The cream cheese frosting tastes like butter. Amazing!

My friends and I were super excited to try the peanut butter stuffed french toast while we were in Atlanta. Sad to say, we were underwhelmed. The french toast was dry as if it had not been dipped in egg, and it also had a weird plastic-y taste to it. Our omelets were also a bit sad...a little rubbery. Grits came in a paper cup and felt like instant grits. Plastic silverware. Would definitely not recommend this place and felt really bad for taking my friends there. Not sure why it has any good reviews. Staff was friendly, hence the 2 stars.

This was my first and last visit here - not impressed at all - The food was not good-The omelet I had was not cooked properly and the tomatoes weren't good at all -- my companion had an egg white omelet and it was horrible --tasteless -- the bread was awful -- Need to change the name to the Lowland bakery midtown ---

Breakfast review: Decent breakfast food, better than Dunkin Donuts / fast food / a diner, but for the prices, it could be better. It's a nice little place & the food is fresh but nothing was really hit out of the park. If you're in the area & don't want something greasy but don't want to sit & order, try Highland Bakery.

I thought this location would be like the one in Fourth Ward but it definitely was not. The quality of food was awful and none of the dishes tasted the same. I ordered the peanut butter French toast which hardly had any peanut butter on it and the maple syrup was runny and did not taste like maple syrup at all! I returned it and got my money back. As I was walking out I noticed that on a shelf way in the back they had their restaurant grade and it was a 73!!!! This place is awful!!!!

I like this place! I loved the sweet potato biscuit. Sure it's like eating a pound of butter. Even in your mouth, it feels like you're biting into a stick of butter, but it's delicious nonetheless. They serve Mighty Leaf tea here, and the staff is friendly. I would come back if I were in the area or in the mood for a sweet potato biscuit, but I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way :)

This place is 5 stars all the way. If lived in ATL I would probably be here at least 3 times a week for breakfast. I ordered the tofu scramble with fresh veggies it came with a choice of grits or home fries, and whole wheat or honey wheat toast for $8.99. I went for the grits they were rich and creamy and burning hot just the way I like them. The desserts looked amazing I wish I could have tried a cupcake. I also ordered a small fresh orange juice for $2.00. The prices are very reasonable. I went in at 10 am on Saturday and the place was packed. If you have not tried this place I highly recommend it. Next time I am in Atlanta this place will be first on my list for breakfast. I also want to try their cupcakes they looked really good, and fresh !

Very happy with this addition to the neighborhood. I can walk here from work on days when I'm feeling really ambitious (ambitious enough for 3 long blocks in heels) and want a somewhat overpriced gourmet lunch. Three stars for delicious-ness, but if I could one-star the price I would. If you love homemade bread, expensive and interesting sandwich combinations and staring at all the treats in the dessert case that your Crossfit trainer won't let you eat, then head to Highland Bakery--Midtown outpost. It really will be yummy!

Came here for the first time today, Parking was easy. Food was good, service was fast, prices reasonable - we especially liked the pastries. Will definitely come again! Came with out of town friends, and they enjoyed it as well. Allot of seating space, which is always a perk.

This is not an actual bakery; minimal actual baked goods are available (today: chocolate croissant, berry croissant, 1 scone, and cinnamon rolls) - the focus is on brunch-type stuff. That said, if that's what you're looking for, the wait seemed much shorter here than it usually is at the original location on Highland. Also: parking is NOT validated on weekends. $2 per 20 minutes in the attached garage. Supposedly it is validated on weekdays, which makes little sense.

A very welcome addition to the 'hood! I have only been to the Inman Park location a couple of times since (1) it's nowhere near where I work (for weekdays) and (2) I don't generally have two hours to kill before brunching on Saturdays and Sundays. The menu at the Midtown outpost is a limited version of the original (notably missing my fave, the corn cilantro pancakes), but it still has popular favorites like sweet potato pancakes, peanut butter stuffed French toast, curried chicken salad sandwich, and white bean chicken chili. Seating inside the restaurant is cozy but limited, but there are plenty of tables and chairs set up inside the lobby of the King & Spalding building (don't worry, BigLaw lawyers don't bite - usually). Counter culture coffee is mmmmm delicious (and fills the hole left in my caffeine-craving heart when Noon stopped serving weekday breakfast - sob!) and the bakery cases are always filled with delicious goodies including croissants, tartlets, biscotti, and - my personal favorite - fabulous little mini-cupcakes in flavors like red velvet, Oreo, raspberry, and lemon. There are even tiny little single-serving boxes to take one to go for a mid-afternoon snack. So much for that healthy living plan... Word on the street is that once they get their bearings, they'll also be open for brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. Welcome to Midtown, Highland Bakery!

I heard so much hype about Highland Bakery, and I was excited for the excuse to finally try their cupcakes. I got 4 mini cupcakes: red velvet, white chocolate and lemon, peach, and german chocolate. The white chocolate lemon was the only one that was good, the other 3 were worse than supermarket cupcakes. I won't be going here for cupcakes again.

Saturday was my first time eating here and I was not impressed. The wait is super long, an hour or more to be exact. We kept asking the hostess when our name would be called and she would say "you're next," then proceed to call 5 to 10 more people in front of us! The food was not great. The omelet I had was some fake processed egg product that was not cooked thoroughly. After eating, we of course stopped by the bakery to taste the goodies. I was not at all impressed with the cake pops I purchased, they had an overly thick outer shell, and the cake inside was not cooked well. Unfortunately, I will probably not be back here.

Consider this a preliminary review to get the ball rolling. It's been a busy summer for me, with lots of travel, so on a week finally back in Atlanta, I turned the corner to my office and behold! Highland Bakery in the old Trois location! I entered dumbstruck, was given a huge sample of their Milky Way tart, ordered two chocolate mini-cupcakes ($1 each), and left, high on sugar. Just like at the other location, there is a real menu beyond pastries, and a seating area for lunch. According to the cashier, they're currently open M-F 7AM-5PM.
