The reviews for Grant Central skew a little high, I'm guessing, because it's the best pizza in East Atlanta. But it's the only pizza in East Atlanta, so I think that's setting the bar a little low. Grant Central makes a thoroughly average pie. There's nothing distinguishing about it. Chewy, cheesy, greasy -- the usual. Pies with veggies tend to get soggy and fall apart. The dining room is casual and family friendly. The staff is cool and tattooed -- exactly what you'd want in the Rockabilly East Atlanta downtown. It's a good neighborhood place -- just not four stars good.

Really cheap pizza and always hits the spot when i haven't ate all day. All the people who work there are really nice and laid back. Im not picky due to the low cost of the pizza. Its a chill place to grab a slice and beer so make sure to give them a try !

The funny part about this place is you could be sitting next to a bum or a ceo everyone comes here because the food is great, the prices are amazing, and the service is warm and friendly. I recommend the calzones they offer very filling and a good value. Parking can be an issue on busy night in EAV but that is this places only downfall. Make a point to visit this place.

i so want this place to be good, but everytime i go in there they let me down. homeboy behind the counter was so disinterested that when i asked him what his favorite sub was he said "i don't know ... whatever" ... like it would take him that much energy to actually pick one. the location and the space is off the hook and that place could be so great, but it seems like everyone working there is thinking about how they'd rather be doing anything else. i got the cuban and it wasn't that bad, but it took foreeeeeeever for them to get it out.

In my book, it's not quite as good as Savage, but the price is a little better and sometimes I'd rather walk somewhere for a slice than drive. It's nothing fancy, and the highlight of the interior is the giant interstate sign for East Atlanta Village they have hanging over the kitchen. But somehow it just works. There's no fuss, the service is friendly without being smarmy, it's low key with food to match. If you can get a spot in the front window, it's great for people watching (I recommend having a few beers while doing it). If pizza's not your thing, the salads are pretty good too, but large. Seems to be a prevailing theme of pizza places that have salads: they must be large enough to be the equivalent caloric intake of a small pie.

Not just the best pizza in the EAV (East Atlanta Village), but probably some of the best pizza in Atlanta. Great prices (a small is like $10, which size-wise, is more like a medium), great topping selections (feta and sun-dried tomatoes are my favorite!), cool service staff (think lots of tattoos, and a little bit of friendly attitude), and perhaps best of all, cheap tall boys! (In case you don't know what that is, it is a 16oz PBR. Hey, on occasion, they even have the large ones, affectionately known as the 20ozer. I could seriously eat at this place every night, but I don't because I would be really fat. Eating pizza all the time sounds like a dream, and when you are eating pizza here, it is a dream come true. Believe it or not, but eating in, the pizza is so much better than if you take it home; perhaps it is all those beers. Who knows, but this is something that I have tested and tried on several occasions, and my research is rock solid!

This is one of the best Pizza joints that I have been to! I have to say... if I was craving pizza that I will drive an hour to get to Grant Central Pizza... it's just that good! Thank goodness I dont have to drive an hour to get to them :)

I haven't been to too many pizza places in ATL, but this is my jam, fo sho. I love the indie rock jams they play, and they've got Sweetwater, which works for me! The pizza slices are big, crisp, tasty, and cheap; the gourmet veggie with breaded eggplant is off the hook. Usually, me and my man get 4 slices, a small spinach salad (which at $3 is a steal!) and drinks and the tab is usually under $20. Unpretentious, good pies in a fairly laid back atmosphere-I ain't mad at that.

My husband and I live in the area and love to support local businesses and do so often. I am very disappointed with the service we received at Grant Central Pizza last night. I understand that it was (1) New Year's Eve and (2) we stopped by for a pie and a few pitchers late in the evening. I would have been fine with being told, at the counter, they were closing. No problem. My husband came to the table after ordering and told me that the employees seemed annoyed we were there. We should have gotten up at that time and asked for our $ back. Big mistake. The pizza came and was slung on our table along with a growled "EAT!" During our dinner the employees began cleaning up (no problem if you are in the kitchen or behind the bar) by putting all the chairs onto the tables right next to us and cursing loudly so that all patrons could hear. When we were finishing our 2nd pitcher (still one full glass each), they began shutting off the majority of the lights in the place, the TVs, music and also paced back and forth from the back to the front staring at us (no I'm not paranoid or delusional). I've eaten here plenty of times over the past 2 years and have never had the horrible service that I had last night. I will go back again but if I have another service like the one last night, the next time WILL be my last. The pizza is good but not good enough to deal with this level of service--there are plenty of other good pizza spots out there.

I've been going here since there was a bullet hole in the back wall from their first robbery and pool sharks hung around the table in the back. They used to make one of the better pies in Atlanta, however some five years ago I started getting sick every time I went here. Not only that friends I recommended were getting sick. It really sucks because I met the owner and know the manager and other previous managers. Love the atmosphere, love the pricing just wish they could bring back the good pies. Their lasagna and meatballs subs are still great though!

I have been going here for about 8 years now. The pizza in my opinion is some of the best in Atlanta. Meatball Pizza and if you are a hugh meat lover you can get the Cardiac Arrest. It is definately worth the stop and has a pretty cool atmosphere to boot.

I must admit, this is my favorite pizza joint. The atmosphere, the staff, the tunes, and of couse, the pizza. I miss this place in every way. Another place where it's run by artists/muscians of some kind. You can order by the slice as well. Very much like Felleni's pizza. Thin crust and light on the cheese. Too much cheese spoils pizza in my mind. I'm not a big fan of deep dish either.

All I've gotta say is, "WTF"?! No, seriously, WTF?! I've lived in East Atlanta for almost a decade now, and Grant Central has always been a great place for pizza and a pitcher of beer. That's why a few weeks ago, when me and a friend went there for takeout, I was anxiously awaiting the moment when I could sink my chops into what smelled so damn delicious on the ride home. Oh boy, simply not the case! Given my friend has lived in our hood longer than I have, we were both in disbelief that the pizza we brought back to his place was actually from Grant Central. Not only was the crust soggy with grease, it was also burnt and gave it that all around ick, burnt taste that absolutely ruins the indulgent taste pizza has (when it's good). Fast forward to a couple of weeks later. Since we weren't so easily convinced that our previous experience was representative of Grant Central's quality, we try again. Go figure, the slices we ordered were actually worse and borderline gross. The crust was so thin, it was translucent in the amount of grease on the paper they serve it on. And no exaggeration, I had to quickly erase from my mind that it looked like my slice was sliding in mucous (yeah, I said it). I personally prefer thin crust pizza, but the dough on this pizza was so thin, it had no chance of hardening into anything resembling a crust. When my friend said an equally disturbing comment in regards to his slices, I just looked at him bewildered and said, "maybe it's the economy". Hell, everything else is being blamed on the economy, why not?! The two reasons I'm not rating it a 1 star is due to the toppings and the pitcher of beer, which were still good. Will I ever eat at Grant Central again? Yes, and although that may surprise anyone reading this review, I'll have to keep reminding myself that this WAS a great pizza place for many years. As a loyal patron, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and believe they're just going through a "funk" right now. Only time will tell, and I hope I'll have a better update to this review in the next few months.

The pizza is ok. But they habitually play aggressive music (e.g., metal, rap) at levels that are outrageously loud. It is not good for conversation or the digestion. Although I live only a couple of blocks from the place, I've stopped going because of the unpleasant atmosphere. This problem is all too common with ITP restaurants, and particularly in East Atlanta. I wish that restaurateurs and staff would realize that the dining room atmosphere is for their customers and not for them.

I have to say that there is nothing over the top about this pizza place. It is your regular tattooed crowd that works there taking orders and flipping pizza. The pizza and pasta are OK but for some reason Doug and I always find ourselves coming back for more. Maybe it is that you can get pizza by the slice, maybe it is price or it might be that it is just around the corner from our house. All I know is that I will keep going back until I find out the reason. Oh...if you get a bit of time say hello to Kevin. He will be the one close to the front door flipping your pizza. You will also know him by his short dreads. He is a supper sweet person and always makes me laugh when I come by.

Just about the best pizza in town. Generous and reasonable priced. I have been going to Grant Central for years and will keep going there as long as they are open. My friends tell me the sandwiches are good also (I go for the pizza every time).

This place has pretty good pizza. I've definitely had better but for a neighborhood pizza shop, it hits the spot. It's also a pretty good deal. Can't complain about it!

Pretty darn good pizza. The breadsticks could be a bit better and I'm sad there's no wings on the menu. Overall this place is worth a try.

Looks cute and my assumption is that it tastes okay but I ordered a single slice of pizza almost 30 minutes ago and still waiting. It's Wednesday and not even busy. I actually think they forgot about me. Update: it arrived. Some chic basically quickly slammed it on my table and snatched my number sign. It's a greasy cheesy slap of mess... I have to use a fork to scoop up the subpar pizza goop. Nasty as f_ck actually. Maybe because it's late and they wanna go home or maybe this is normal pizza in the ATL.

NY style pizza! Love the cardiac arrest slice MEATY!! Subpar service. Plenty space to sit in. Parking is shared. I usually get a beer. They have a fountain soda machine almost always disgusting!

Great food, the calzone is awesome and delicious. Yet they take forever to make your food . i was there almost 20 minutes before I got my food. It wasn't even busy

It's too hard to mess up pizza in this world. It's just way too hard... from grocery store frozen kinda "pizza", cardboard delivery cutouts, airport terminal Sabbaro slim, and then there's my favorite... the red checkered tablecloth pizzeria's that dot every major city in the western world. Grant Central Pizza gets the concept of a neighborhood pizzeria right. The pies are good not fantastic and I def recommend the Cardiac Arrest pizza. The staff can be sometimes indifferent but take out is always prompt even when I walk in. They have cold beer on tap and arcade games in the back for the kids.

I'll keep this short there are to many good pizza places in this city to bother with this one. The worst period.

  • Bethany A.

This review will be short cause there's nothing really I can complain about this pizza joint! My date ordered a large pizza with pineapples and extra cheese on his half meanwhile I had feta cheese, spinach, onions, and sausage on my half. Although the wait time was ridiculously long, I loved how authentic the pizza tasted overall! The sausage was very unique and spicy!! So if you're a sausage lover (like myself), you'll definitely fall in love with Grand Centrals!

This has always been the best place but tonight changed it all. My daughter had a slice of cheese pizza and well she had bread, barely any cheese. The calzones came out half done so we asked for them to be cooked a little more then they came back burnt. We then asked if they could just remake it and both cooks were just rude as hell. Got my money back and left.

Just good pizza. Pros: Cheese, crispy crust, quick to order/pick up Cons: Too thick crust, not cooked well in the middle of pie, salad was mediocre. I would eat here again.

Grant Central is a local institution in East Atlanta. It's served up pies to for years. I discovered it when I first moved here and have grown to love its quirky vibe, and of course it's pizza. Service can be hit or miss from the surly hipsters behind the counter. They do sometimes appear to just be there existing - don't expect stellar customer service here. Aside from the quirky atmosphere , and the lackadaisical service, the New York style pizza is good. I find it to be better than most, but not the best. I do prefer it over Fellinis. - What other choices do we have on this side of town for a New York style pie?The house salad has always been good and seems fresh. I agree with other reviewers regarding the pasta - it's pretty bad. Quirky atmosphere, cooler than you employees, and good pizza, that's Grant Central Pizza.

Not comparing them to any other restaurant, not comparing the pizza to anything in NYC, I just like going here, getting slices, sitting and reading a book while I eat my lunch on a Saturday. This restaurant is my reference Pizza Joint that all others have to match up to. But then, I'm weird. So-- your mileage may vary. They make slices with your choice of toppings. My personal slice: pepperoni and green pepper, dusted liberally with red pepper flakes, washed down with ice tea. There are good crust days, and meh crust days. The sauce is good, the slices are big. Some days the servers are nice, others they are indifferent. I don't think they are ever less than cordial, but even surly doesn't bother me if it's efficient. And they are usually efficient. The music in the restaurant is eclectic but always cool-- sometimes too cool, but I'd risk it any day. They always have fresh ice tea brewed, sweet or unsweet, and in fall/winter they serve soup to comfort you on a miserable day. Grant Central feels like home to me, and now that I no longer live in East Atlanta, I miss it.

The pizza isn't bad but don't bother getting a sandwich. I thought the first time was maybe just a one off bad luck, but once again it took 45 minutes to get it. There were three other people in the whole place.

The pizza was darn good and the service was also great. We arrived there late and everyone was still very pleasant and helpful.

I live in in the neighborhood and been going to Grant Central for years. The pizza is great. Normally, I call in my order so when I arrive, my pie is waiting for me to take out. I made the drastic mistake of not doing that yesterday. I was in the area and decided to walk in and order a 12" pie to go (regular pizza with sausage). The place was probably 1/3 filled as it was a Wednesday night (so it wasn't busy). It took them 40 minutes to produce a small (12") pie with sausage. The folks there are very nice but the service is EXTREMELY slow. I will continue to frequent Grant Central but not make the mistake of not calling in my order first so I don't have to sit around for 40 minutes for a take out order. If it wasn't for that, I would give this place 5 stars (the pizza is very good).

I like pizza! I like good pizza! And this place has it. If you are looking for a place to wait on you, check on you every 10 minutes, friendly attitudes? This place is not it. You walk in order your food, take a number, find a seat, food is brought to you and you eat. End of story. It's the type of place you go to not be bothered. You refill your own drinks, so no waiting on someone to do it for you. Ample seating with private booths or street views. There is a back patio if you want to sit outside. They sell beer. Beware of ordering pitchers- they are expensive! So yea, the person who takes your order will not say hello and you are lucky if (s)he hears everything you want to order. So what, its a dive. The salads are amazing. The pizza has never failed. And the marinara sauce is outstanding. This place is located in the heart of the East Atlanta Village. It's great to stop in and grab a slice on the go. It's great to eat in and chill (and the music isn't usually bad!). It's great to take food home. I only wish they were open a little later for the nights I do frequent the local bar and want a slice before heading home. But, hey, we can't always get what we want.

  • Cathia L.

I give this place 3 stars because the pizza it self isn't bad, I've had better but this was good too. But my friend and I had to wait way too long to actually get our food. All we ordered was a plain pie and it took more then an hour to get it. We weren't in a hurry but we were pretty hungry so we were not happy. And when we tried to find out what was taking so long this young man, a server or something was a little snippy with us as if this to be expected that you wait hours for your food.

Didn't even get to try the pizza because of horrible customer service. Attempted to make a pick up order over the phone and the women who answered was RUDE as well as completely USELESS. And it wasn't the normal innocent idiot rude, she told me OVER THE PHONE to consult the menu for prices when she had already established that the menu online was not correct. Seriously?

  • Nicole G.

Every single time I get something than the white pizza from here, I am very disappointed. I just keep ordering that and I'm OK. Don't EVER order anything with pasta. It tastes worse than school lunches. Unless if you are drunk, then you probably won't ever notice.

Very good pizza and great atmosphere. Loses a star for uncomfortable seating, and some people asking for money in the parking lot

Great pizza, amazing service and really good crust! This place is like an improved, homemade papa johns pizza with a surplus amount of actual ingredients. Their crust is crunchy on the outside - soft and tasty on the inside. The overall pizza was really tasty!

  • Kay T.

Well I just had to keep trying and each time it got Betta!!!!! Munch, nom, munch.. Let the pictures speak for themselves!! Delicioso!! This is why I fell in love with this place!!! I'm talking primo delicious. I had the Greek salad with thee best Caesar dressing, a slice and some lasagna called super lasagna. Don't judge me I am a fatty. I could not eat it all but most say it was fabulous!!!

My usual quick "go-to" pizza spot. Always reliable for tasty pizza, salads, and lasagna. I usually eat lunch here at least twice a week. Similar to Felinis, but the sauce is a lot tastier.

I do truly appreciate this place. The pizza is great here, some of the best left in the city.

    (4)
  • M D.

The pizza here is generally pretty good for a neighborhood joint. However, the staff is absolutely surly. They are all seem really bothered to have to be working and thoroughly annoyed at customers imposing on them by coming in to the restaurant. This is not just benign neglect. You will be the target of rude commentary from the staff that they don't even bother to hide. Get your pizza to go if you patronize this restaurant at all.

A friend who lives in EAV suggested Grants to me when I told her that a lot of pizza makes me sick because of too much sauce. Today I gave it a try and loved it. I will for sure return.

Best pizza joint in Atlanta. Great food, fast service, wonderful pizza. I've been eating here for a long time and the food is consistently great.

  • Medina A.

The service was great. I was babysitting, my kid-for-the-day got a time-out & the cashier & I were reminiscing on being little. He was super nice & gave her a prize for getting out of time-out. When the pizza arrived (small 12") I was surprised by how much like grade school pizza it was! NOT good. The cheese was thick & seemed artificial. The crust was uninspired. Seriously, a frozen DiGiorno's would've been better. I THINK the single slice that I had on my first visit last summer was okay but, obviously, forgettable. Won't be back unless I'm in a pinch. When I splurge to eat cow snot on a white flour dough cracker, it needs to be worth the fat & calories. L5P has two places with far superior quality pies.

  • Mena S.

Seriously, get a website or post your full menu online. In this day and age, I think that's pretty essential for running a successful business.. Especially for a pizza joint where half of your business is to go orders. I called and the girl that answered the phone said she thought they had a Facebook page but wasn't sure and she thought there was a partial menu on yelp but didn't think it was correct. Again, seriously? We live in the neighborhood and would love to support our local pizza place but I don't have time for a business that doesn't have time to make things convenient for their customers.

    (2)
  • Chris A.

I have tried and tried to give this place a chance (about 6 times). I would love to support my local pizza shop. But time and time again this place has proven to me it has TERRIBLE service. The waitress I had last time was literally the rudest anyone has treated me in a restaurant. It made me so mad I won't even consider giving them my business for takeout.

As a mom of a young child living in EAV, Grant Central is PERFECT. The pizza is great, the atmosphere is casual and I can walk there from my house. What's not to like? I've not had any issues with service at this location. Everyone has always been friendly and more than accommodating. My daughter loves being able to play video games while we wait for our food and she's constantly making friends with other kids. I love their cheese sticks - so good.

This is my go-to pizza spot. I can get pizza, a salad and breadsticks without breaking the bank. Hello! As a vegetarian, this place offers plenty of variety to keep my simple pizza palate satisfied. The pizza is by the slice, or whole pie, whatever you want. They also have calzones, sandwiches and specials which I have seen include lasagna and chicken parmagina (sp). The crust on my pizza has been slightly burned a few times, but that doesn't over shadow ALLLLL the other times it has been cooked to perfection. Their sauce is great and my veggie pizza is always the bee's knees. I also love the ambiance of the place. It's hipster-ish, but not pretentious by any means. The best seats in the house are the window seats. I either read my Creative Loafing while waiting for my pizza or people watch (and the people watching in East Atlanta Vilage is RIPE!!!). Please, try this place, you won't be disappointed. I don't know what was going on with the folks who had a "bad" experience here, but the abundance of 4 and 5 starts should tell you... this pizza place right here.... is SERIOUSLY GOOD!!!!

  • Tristyn B.

It took a while to get our food, but I loved the freshness of the ingredients on my pizza! I'm generally a small eater, so the slice with everything on it (including meatballs!) did me well. And the prices are decent, which, imho, tends to make things taste better lol

  • Ana G.

So it seems that either you love this place or you don't. I will say that I like this place. To me it's a hybrid of both Transmet and Little Italy in Athens. Love the fact that their pitchers are reasonable, and their Hawaiian pizza is very tasty and their slices are very generous. The ingredients were fresh and the dough was really good. I also love the ambiance, the random art by locals, and just the scene here is just pretty laid back. We ordered at the counter and were given a marker for the waitstaff to spot us. Our food came in in about 10 minutes and it was delicious. Also our waitress was very attentive while we were there. Overall my first time experience at Grant Central Pizza was pretty awesome.

Sometimes they can be a hit or a miss.. I hate when my pizza has burnt crust other than that, the pizza is made fresh to order. Im a fan of the slice, its a nice size too! One time while there, there was some cheese cake that I asked about, the cashier had no idea. When my pizza comes out, so does a slice of cheese cake. Let me know what you think, she says. Im thinking...... a nice tip for you for being so considerate, its so rare these days... They also have beer, if your into that....

I've only been here once, but I guarantee I will never order pizza here again. Ordered a Medium pizza with sausage and a few veggies... with a drink (we ordered two sodas, but were only charged for one) that came up to $22 and change before tip. The pizza came to the table with a pool of liquid in the center that soon soaked the entire pizza crust so that we had no option but to eat our soggy, limp pizza with knives and forks. I am not exaggerating. Our pizza was soaking wet. After paying $22 for this pizza, we decided to take the leftovers home despite the awfulness of it, which ended up being a good decision. After sitting in a cardboard box in the fridge all night, the crust managed to dry out enough to make the pizza halfway decent - definitely better than it was served to us at the restaurant. It still wasn't worth the money, but it was better than throwing away half a pizza. To the restaurant's credit, i did really like the sausage that they used on the pizza... too bad everything else sucked about it.

When I'm craving pizza and don't want to venture out of my hood, I come to Grant Central. My standing order is the gourmet veggie. No complaints on the toppings - they use quality cheese and lots of it and fresh veggies. Sometimes the crust can be too thick and has air pockets. Just depends on whose making it I guess. Their menu also offers calzones, cubans, salads and usually a pasta dish. They have a good selection of bottled beer and a few beers are offered on tap. The atmosphere is cool and good tunes are always playing overhead. The service is no frills - you might get a greeting before ordering; you might not. Grant Central always satisfies my pizza craving and for that, I am glad they are a part of EAV.

Simple & Delicious!! I love GCP! The cheese bread & marinara sauce is sooo good. I have to get an order everytime I dine there. Also, the slices are always on point!, HOT & FRESH! I love the specials, everytime they offer the cheesey lasagna I order it! The toppings are always fresh, I always get an onion & mushroom slice! They staff is always great, its so good to finally find an awesome pizza place with a great staff, games, tvs and cold beer. I love that I live right around the corner from GCP!! Its an EAV treasure! Also, Grant Central Pizza & Pasta in Grant Park is always AMAZING, its a great place to get pasta, great staff as well and the best Tunes in Town, you cant beat amazing pasta, wine & old school 80's tunes!!

I got food poisoning from the pizza. It was the end of the night and instead of making a fresh pizza or informing me that they were sold out, I was given a slice of pizza that must have been sitting all day. I took it home and couldn't believe how funky it looked but I was starving so I ate a slice. Tasted horrible, couldn't eat the rest. 20 minutes later i was violently throwing up! Then the next day I was sick to my stomach, nauseous and had the runs. I had to leave work early! I called them because I was so upset, and they offered me a credit for another pizza... Ummm I'll pass! Never going back!

Yeahhhh no. First I had to use the ladies room while my partner ordered, and someone had made a huge mess in one of the stalls. Okay, gross, I used the other one, no big deal. When I was done I informed the guy at the counter that someone had apparently decided to do their impression of a sprinkler in one of their bathroom stalls- just lettin ya know. No worries, on to the table. A few minutes later the slices came out and were delivered to our table. Meh. I'm a pizza snob- I worked in a number of pizzerias over the years and it has left me with a bit of a discerning palette for pie, and this was so-so at best. Well, no biggie- handy location and the place was roomy and had kind of interesting decor, so fine. One slice each didn't fill us up, so I went back to the counter to order another, easy enough. Or so I thought. The guy behind the counter put down his knitting as I approached with my "Hi there! No rest for the wicked!" quip and then proceeded to walk away. He went and delivered an order that had come up to one of the tables as the food runner was bussing a table. Okay, sure. Then he waved at me and said "I'll take your order in a minute." Uh, okay... that phrase might have been a tad friendlier and should have come when you walked away from me the first time, but sure, whatever. Then he engages in a five minute discussion with the cook over tips and the low amount that are coming in and the division thereof. Aheh. Yeah, buddy, I think I have a good idea why your tips are sucking if this is your idea of customer service. No orders up, nothing pending, he'd really just rather talk to the cook than wait on me. This gives me a chance to look over the oven area. yeah, just like the rest of the place, it looks none too clean. Overall i should have taken a cue from the bathroom- this places is really just kinda dirty. Finally I got tired of waiting for the clerk jerk and I walked away, order unfilled and impression indelibly set in my mind, and Yelp review ready to go. So here's my review, now that you've heard my tale. Many of these places in hipster neighborhoods like East Atlanta Village get by on "We're the only place like this here" and "We have great ambiance" and "Hey, you don't like it, go somewhere else". In this case I got the message loud and clear. There are many independent pizza parlors in Atlanta, and I can choose which ones I wish to patronize. And lousy service, rude personnel, an unclean restaurant and mediocre pizza doesn't give me any desire to spend my money somewhere. So my tip is this- if you want to eat somewhere that doesn't care if you come back, then Grant Central is the place for you. If you want to be waited on and feel welcome in a restaurant and possibly feel as though your business matters, seek out a different place. Because this one honestly doesn't give a damn. I went 2 years ago and the aroma in the place smelled so good that I wanted to eat the air. The pizza was delicious! Oh yeah!

I like Grant Central Pizza. I enjoy the kind of pies they serve there where you can order an individual slice. I don't think this is the kind of place for people who are into gourmet ingredients. The service can run a little on the slow side sometimes, so its not somewhere I'd go if I was in a super hurry. I've never found it dirty. This is just a no frills pizzeria. I definitely enjoy the hipster vibe.

I'm so happy I could cry. After moving to Atlanta and trying six different pizza places I was seriously worried that the idea of good pizza was not embraced by The South. A part of me died inside. I didn't even want food when we slipped in to Grant but WTF? it beats McDonalds right? The staff looks like extras in a Quinton Terantino movie. Tattoos and funky hairwith hipster glasses. I was so hypnotized by the guy taking my order I could barely talk. I said something about peperoni but he heard "heart attack special" and I went with it. It was excellent. No.... really.. .it was great. When the homeless guy asked me for money 15 minutes later because he was hungry I said, "not me, I just had a F'ing awesome slice of pizza from Grant. You should try it" (but I didn't give him money)

Hmm, I guess I should have reviewed my review before coming in on a monday night. The pizza hasn't improved but the cleanliness has gone down in spades. It's not quite to the point where I'd have to hover over everything to enjoy my pizza but it's getting close.

Ever since I found this spot I've been in religiously once a week, grab a booth and order the same thing. The same thing because why change perfection... Unfortunately this 12.26.10 was an off day... The friendly female cashier took my order but denied the notion that they serve any red wine. (criminal) Then assumed that I must have been "mistaken" and meant another location. (LOL... Not cool, but no worries.) I look around, there was no one there with any sense or care so I paid my bill, got my pizza, and went home. Sorry guys. Think you can help a girl out?

If you want fairly cheep pizza and you are in the area, come here and you will be happy. But i have had better pizza and service. The place was not crowded at all and it took forever to come. If I had the choice of Grant Central Pizza and Cameli's Pizza (Cameli's Is just around 3 minuets away) I would choose Cameli's

I am a pizza guy, ask anyone that knows me. I normally am one of those pepperoni pizza guys but when I went to the EAV (East Atlanta Village) location, the super just jumped out at me. I took off the black olives, and onions (cant stand either) and I have to say it was a really good pizza. Fresh made to order. Price is reasonable and the place is kid friendly. Tip: if you are in a hurry to grab a pizza to go, do yourself a favor and call ahead.

the quality of the pizza is good, but the consistency of how good it is changes every time im there. most times, its really great getting a slice of the super or gourmet veggie. sometimes the pizza is slightly more greasy or wet. once it was just boring. but i always felt like i got my money worth, so no problems there. my belief is that their best pizza is made by the industrial/rivethead dude. and their worst pizza is made when the industrial/rivethead dude has to listen to somebody else's crappy play list. LET THE POOR MAN LISTEN TO WUMPSCUT ALREADY! let him kneed the passion n anger away into the dough! hall n oates is no way to make good pizza!

Solid, simple, good. Grant Central doesn't try to get too gourmet or fancy with the pies or the prices. It's like a low-key coffeeshop, only with pizza! The staff is super-low key, but friendly. I order the Hawaiian, which comes with a large amount of shredded ham (some of it has rind on it, so it's not lunchmeat or those big square flat pieces like other places) and smallish pineapples. I like a little more sauce on my pies, but they are so nice I'm sure I can just ask them to add some next time I go. Slices are $3.25 or so.

My EAV happy spot. Love that I can grab a slice and not over do-it, but equally love sharing a large pie with friends that don't often make it into the area and have them make the "O" face when they take a bite :) Not fancy, and yes they have screwed up my pick-up order a time or two without so much as a sorry, but the food is consistently great, the staff is nice enough and there is parking - I would drive past 10 other pizza places to go here.

I've upgraded the restaurant to four stars after eating their lasagna. I've become a fan. They give you a good bang for the buck. It's a hole in the wall spot. Nothing fancy, but it has good food.

When looking for pizza I tend to forget this place exists. Terrible, I know, because their pizza is definitely one of the best in Atlanta. I'm not a big fan of the atmosphere here, I feel like it's a bar and that hanging out and eating pizza here just feels off. Maybe I'm crazy... oh wait I am. I have their phone number saved in my phone now. Sometimes after the gym I feel like cheating on my gluten free diet and I call for a lovely pick-up. Two slices of cheese and a salad with italian. Yummo. The service here is pretty friendly, very Fellini's like - lots of tattoos and laid back attitudes. I'm a big fan. I prefer this Grant Central, even if it is an extra mile, or two, round trip. People watching in EAV is much more fun than GP anyway!

Pizza was good! I like the topping selections as for service forget about it. The kid at the register was useless and a snail. I could have done it myself faster and with at least somewhat of a smile on my face.

We love this place. It's near our house, the food is good, and the service is great. Very reasonably priced beer and wine, too. The pasta is excellent (try the fettuccine alfredo with blackened chicken) as well. They've gotten flak recently re: their new policy on kids. People, come on. This restaurant is very child-friendly. They only ask that if your kid is screaming and throwing things (which has happened enough for it to be an issue, apparently) that you take them outside til they calm down. Parents should be doing that anyway. Restaurant staff aren't supposed to babysit your kids, and other patrons who are paying for a meal out shouldn't be subjected to it, either. Bravo for implementing a policy that is really just common sense. We do take-out a lot here, but now we'll be eating in more.

I've been to Grant Central East at least a 15 - 18 times. The first dozen or so times they were consistently good with only 1 hiccup (under cooked dough) which I easily dismissed since I had 2 or 3 pies that were AWESOME (crust nicely charred, right amount of sauce, plenty of cheese, fresh toppings). The past 6 months though the quality of the pies have been consistently sub par (dough under or over cooked, twice something was off with the cheese). Maybe because they had just hired a new baker who may have needed a little longer to get the feel for the dough & oven. I've taken a break from going there but will try them again soon to see if they gotten their groove back. I hope so.

Probally the best hangover pizza in the EAV, GP etc. area. Toppings always seem fresh. The amount of toppings seem to vary with each visit. I don't really care for the pizza straight out the oven. For some reason this pizza is ok hot but much better cold. I think it has to do w/ the choice of cheese. I find myself ordering a large pizza to eat over a couple of days. The last time there I had the mushroom soup that was very, very good. 2 large pizzas, soup $38. Not exactly pizza hut pricing which is fine with me. I rather supprt local or stay at home.

Pizza was pizza. Place was big, with a lot of wasted and cluttered space. My OCD was in overdrive. I felt dirtier after I went to the ladies and washed my hands I did before I washed 'em. I have no clue how they pass heath inspections.

Feb 17, 2012 Owner prefers that poorly supervised and behaved children eat elsewhere. This is only right by the other patrons. Congratulations to the owner for seeking to create a pleasant dining experience for most patrons.

I got the *special which was sausage lasagna and garlic bread. I should have just gotten a slice of pizza which is what they are known for I guess. The lasagna wasn't horrible but it wasn't anything memorable either. It's a cool vibe but the food at least what I got wasn't anything special.

Grant Central in EAV is cheap. Pick two slices with a topping each. If you only order water to drink, then you can enjoy an evening grazing and gazing through this pizzeria's big storefront windows for around five bucks. The ventilation for the oven doesn't work very well, so it's a bit smokey. Cavelike, even. If cavedwellers had roasted pizzas on sticks. And these theoretical cavedwellers had a show on WRAS before dropping out of GSU because the Film Studies program was too hard. Indie cavedwellers, of a sort. If you can imagine them. With modest dreams and a-ok customer service skills. Mostly decent pizza makers, too. Ok, I'm just convincing myself this place deserves four stars at this point. It'd definitely get five if it offered wooly mammoth as a meat topping.

despite sweating my hypothetical testicles off while eating here on Monday (their AC was broken, apparently...), I really have nothing bad to say. I've had awesome pizza and service here every time I've been, and I find it to be way less pretentious than a lot of the 'zza places in atlanta...you know what I'm talking about. Bigger space, too. I need to come here more often.

As a New Yorker in Atlanta, it is hard to find pizza that is decent. This place was more than decent. The toppings were underneath the cheese (something Fellini's hasn't figured out yet) and were definitely of good quality. The dough was very thick for me. I wish it were more of a thin crust so that you aren't full after 2 slices (I'm a half a pie girl!) But I really liked the diverse clientele inside, from young families with little children to tattooed east Atlanta locals. My only complaint is that it takes a long time for them to make a pizza - I appreciate that they are making it from scratch, but just because we are in the south doesn't mean that everything has to be done slowly!

The only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars is because I have a particular affinity for Fellini's - especially the one on Ponce. Regardless, Grant Central makes excellent pizza. By far the best pie has to be the gourmet vegetarian .. baked eggplant?? divine!!

  • Jason R.

This is the type of by-the-slice place I like. Good cheese pizza to be folded and munched, relaxed atmosphere, and a neighborhood feel. The sauce had plenty of flavor, the cheese was well cooked, and the crust was thin but strong enough to hold together. I just wish this pizza were walking distance from me...

Pizza and PBR, what else could you want? OK Don't worry they have other types of beer too! I went here the other night and had two large slices and a big-a$$ PBR for $10. You order @ the counter and the deliciousness is delivered to your table. As Drew mentioned, the East Atlanta highway sign above the pizza ovens is a feature attraction. The gourmet veggie is soooo delicious, I don't think I've had baked eggplant before. I'm very much a meat eater but carnivores like myself will love it to. A friend had a salad topped chicken that looked great as well. The only minus was the lack of air conditioning, the big fan just didn't quite cut it in the Atlanta heat!

So, I've grown up in Atlanta without amazing pizza. Felini's has been the go-to thus far, but now that I've discovered Grant Central Pizza? Hands down my favorite in Atlanta!! I've also lived in NYC for a bit and know a good pizza when I taste one. Grant Central, you have done the south well. There are 2 locations, one in EAV and one in Grant Park. Each has their own personality: EAV is larger and more of a group meeting place in a fab locale obvi; GP location is smaller, but has a cozier feel and is set in more of a quiet, tree-lined neighborhood. You can go there after playing your sport of choice with the dirt from the field and no complaints come your way! The tunes playing overhead set the alternative atmostphere, but are never too loud. The selections of special pies range from the Cardiac Arrest for the carnies and the Super Veggie loaded with AMAZING fresh ingredients sprinkled with shredded mozz. Yum! You also have the choice of building your own with an extensive list of add-ons, or picking a non-pizza option and get dishes such as their baked lasagna or one of their hot/cold subs (the meatball is awesome!). Their side salads are light and only $2.25 if you're sticking to a healthier option and your budget. And while the beer list is not huge, it is packed with good and hearty brews on tap and in the bottle. I have heard the complaints about their aloof staff, but you should know this before walking in: this is a pizza joint!! Not a Michelin-Star rated restaurant!! They serve good grub and beer! Go with friends or a casual date so there is no need to chat up the staff. And even though their pies and hot dishes may take a little longer than you'd like, it just means the satisfaction is all the more worth the wait. They've got arcade games for the kids if they need to let loose and the vibe is chill and not rushed. Yes, Grant Central is that good. Prices are decent--you can make it cheap or go all out. Warning to those who want GC at home: they do not deliver--you must pick up. My roomies and I opt for that whenever we are feeling the pizza craving at dinner and it never ceases to disappoint! Now go get your fix!

Good vegetarian slice :) mmmm. Also their veggie subs rock, all around good food. The East Atl location reminds me of the classic local pizza parlor from when I was a kid. Be warned in the summer though, it get's hot as a fire cracker in there with the pizza oven going, and from what can tell no AC...guess I am spoiled.

Now, this may not be a fair review because I have stopped going there because of the problems I noticed, but basically I started calling this place Roach Pizza. I kid you not. I used to frequent this place until I noticed the bug problem they were having. It grossed me out. The last straw was late one night after hanging out at Mary's we checked to see if they were open. We walked up their back deck, and there were several that scattered away from us. Anyway, again, this may not be fair as it has been about two years, and hopefully they have taken care of this problem.

I found myself in East Atlanta Village trying to past by the daily woe's of life when a mild hunger that couldn't be ignored decided to hit me. I saw Grant Central Pizza shop and figured "what the hell, it's been a while since I had pizza". As I stepped through the door I was greeted with that distinct oven cooked pizza smell that's only really known to New York Pizzeria's, and I said to myself "this could very well be a good experience". As I went through the variety of pizza's offered on the menu I couldn't pull my curiosity off of one distinct feature pizza. The "Cardiac Arrest" as it is called is a pizza with all the traditional Italian meat fixin's pilled high. As I sat in anticipation of my arteries being incarcerated I was also hoping this pizza would "Rodney King" my taste buds as well. When my pizza arrived I took a bite, and I'm sad to say I had to settle for something maybe 2 notches above a typical Pizza Hut meat lovers pizza. Although my pizza wasn't the greatest I will give brownie points on the wait time of getting my pizza and the overall menu price of food. If you're looking for visual stimulation while waiting for your food be prepared to be disappointed. This place isn't what I would call trendy, but that's not such a bad thing. The cracked drywall with brick showing through adds character to the place which I can appreciate. If you're in the area and have a slight hankering for pizza I would say the place is worth trying, but don't expect to get authentic Naples quality Italian pizza.

Great Pizza Bakers Grant Central and cousin Grant Central East are about the best pizza south of NYC I have had. The pizzas are great, Calzones are wonderful, portions are large, and the location near the Zoo is great. Love to stop here before a ball game at the Ted and bring in a real Pizza before the game. Nice back way into the ballpark.

Given the choice of all the pizza places in Atlanta, Grant Central is maybe the best, if for nothing else than they have the best menu. In addition to the normal stuff that other pizza places offer, Grant Central has all kinds of homemade pastas, including ravioli and lasagna. They have fuller Italian meals also, so you have a choice between a simple slice and something more traditionally Italian. Plus it's a lot bigger than other places, so there's more seating. Their calzones are as big as my head (which means probably twice as big as yours). Though if you're going for straight up pizza, Grant Central isn't the champion in that category. Their slices leave a little to be desired, as in they are nothing special and sometimes dry. I'd recommend coming here for the other dishes, but as I've said before, it's really hard to mess up pizza, so you can come after that here as well. The prices, by the way, are cheaper than you might expect for food of this quality. The bill always comes in lower than I'd expected. Another big plus for GCP.
