Within 30 min of landing in the ATL; I made my way directly to the elmyr. This place is kind of like a mythical beast. Part restaurant/ part bar/lounge/dance party. Cocktails: just how I like them. Strong and good. I had quite a few. The dj is perched up in a tiny room above the bar area. (Okay technically it's in between the bar and the ladies room) Last night was a full fledged dance party....and it was awesome. I was also starving. I ordered the nachos with steak. Super good. My friends both got the breakfast burrito with mixed opinions on how it was. I personally loved the food. service here. Super chill and quirky. But in a good way. This place was definitely a great introduction to atlanta. I'll be back super soon. Probably tonight or tomorrow.

Elmyr has got some decent vegetarian and vegan options and it's easy to ask questions about allergens here. Wait staff were pleasant and reasonably on the ball, the decor is pleasant, and overall the environment is nice. I wish I could give this place a higher rating, but as long as they allow people to smoke where I'm eating I just can't. It's disgusting, it's an affront to public health, and I was frankly shocked to find out that it was legal since the last time I saw ashtrays in a restaurant was over ten years ago.

I pass by here often... I just never thought to go in. The outside kind of made me a little skittish about it haha. But I was really hungry in the area and wanted to try something new this... this place popped up! Plus bf wanted to go too! Was happy to see it was a Taco joint. This place strikes me as a ... Bar meets restaurant + hipsters. Not that it's a bad thing. That's what ran through my mind when I walked in. NOTE: The smell of cig smoke is pretty obvious inside. Blech. I really hated it. Had to knock off a star for that. Parking - there is street parking. Make sure to pay. Or like other VaHi folks, park your car a few blocks down and walk on over. Inside When you walk in, you will see only the bar, but when you look to your left, you'll see lots of tables around in the back. I saw a good amount of people at the bars as well as those who just wanted to eat. You can also seat yourself :D Food I ordered a Green Burrito with Tofu. It was pretty good! It was also VERY fresh from the grill. I had to wait a good 5 mins before I ate it. But when I did dig into it, I could tell the veggies and tofu inside were decently fresh, esp the broccoli & peppers. It had a good amount of everything in there too. The burrito itself is massive. I couldn't finish it. I had to take half of it home. Oh - the burrito wasn't falling apart :) Hate when some places stuff it so much, the skin starts to tear. I also had a few bites of my bf's Pad Thai Burrito. I had no idea someone had the idea to put Pad Thai in burrito form. Haha. This was actually better than my own Green Burrito. I would order this if you like the very Americanized Pad Thai haha. I'm a fan. I feel strange saying that I enjoyed a Pad Thai burrito lol. Each burrito bowl cam with a sauce - green or red. Green is spicy. Red is normal. Looks like I found a perfect place to go to a bar with a beer in hand + food that won't make me regret eating it the next morning!

Best shrimp taco in Atlanta (and other cities I've been to). The amount of shrimp will make you smile.

Cheap and gross Mexican food. Worst part about this place is that people can smoke inside and outside. Nothing like enjoying tacos in smoke...

  • Don D.

Me and a buddy needed to find a place to pre-game dinner before the Rolling Stones show that had vegan options. We were told Elmyr was the place to go. Low and behold, they had a great build your own burrito option for him while I had the two grilled shrimp tacos that were out of this world! The only downfall to this place is that it's SMOKING. Yeah, i mean, when is Atlanta going to get with the rest of the fucking world and just make it illegal to smoke inside places? Smokers rights? whatever. Go out side and kill yourself. It's YOUR choice to smoke, not mine. While the food was amazing, because of this, I won't be going back.

The Thai burrito is amazing!!!! The environment is fun. The patio was a cool place to sit. Very well ventilated for a smokers place.

  • Mary Locke M.

Elmyr is pretty freaking awesome. It's dive-y in all the right ways. You can smoke here, and even as a nonsmoker, it kind of adds to the grungy character and authenticity of the place. Service is never the speediest, but you're not here a "Welcome to Moe's" in and out experience. The bang for your burrito buck is no joke. They're freaking huge. The green burrito complete with spinach, broccoli, green chilies, guacamole, and jalapeños is burrito bliss. They have margaritas, but a beer just feels right. If you're like me and not hip enough for PBR consumption, I highly recommend pairing your burrito with a Tecate. If Anthony Bourdain lived in Atlanta, I imagine Elmyr is the kind of place he'd feel at home.

I love this place, my favorite place for food and beer when I'm in little 5. The menu is vegan friendly and damn good. I've had the hazedilla and the green burrito. The vegetables are fresh from the farmers market and deliciously grilled. The salsa is so good and fresh, and my husband says their guacamole is his favorite in town.

Stopped in here on a Sunday after walking around Little Five Points. We can here because of the strong yelp reviews. I loved the flavors as most places are very bland but not here. My only issue was the smoking. It's not Elmyr fault as most areas in Little Five Points are smoking restaurants. Not for kids

I stopped by here for dinner on the way back home from North Carolina on Labor Day. Little Five Points is such an interesting part of Atlanta. I love eating places where I can walk off my meal afterwards and enjoy the sites. Elmyr is a smoking establishment. I read about it on yelp, and it's on their front door. I didn't enjoy the second hand smoke at all, but obviously can't hold that against them. It feels like more of a bar than restaurant. The service is fast paced and no one is worried about chatting you up. We sat on the patio and they had two servers covering the inside and outside. Our server got us what we needed fast and the kitchen was quick. As far as the food goes... I enjoyed it for the price point. They obviously buy a bunch of stuff from food suppliers. Don't expect everything made in house. But they did a good job with everything we ate, and the price is right for what you get. We had queso and salsa to start. The queso is the standard fake white stuff that I was craving. Salsa was solid, had a smoky taste. The chips were definitely store bought which was the only real disappointing part of the meal. For entrees we had the green burrito and grilled mahi tacos. The green burrito was really big and filling. Also pretty hot with the green chilies. We had to eat it slowly just to let the heat die down in between bites. I loved the combination of guac, spinach and broccoli. The grilled mahi tacos were really good as well. Great grilled flavor on the meat and we also enjoyed the sauce on the fish as well. The cocktails looked really good. I would love to try the mescal mule, being a fan of mescal and ginger beer. Hopefully next time I'm in town there will be time to drink!

Awesome place for a giant burrito lunch and some day drinking. Everything is massive, delicious, and cheap. I love the nacho burrito. House margs are the way to go. Another review described the atmosphere as dark and smokey. Which is fairly accurate. It has a cool punk vibe and is really casual. I'm sitting here in my yoga pants and I don't feel too out of place. Definitely one of my favorite restaurants in ATL.

Music = 5/5 Food = 5/5 Service = 3/5 The Pad Thai Burrito IS something to write home about. Sometimes waiters can't do simple math. It's OK I know it's hard sometimes. Seriously though, you should go here. Just don't expect super attentive service; it's not the Olive Garden.

Back when I used to drink, I could get lost in ElMyr for a whole day. it's dark, dirty, smokey and wonderful in all the grossest ways. And the drinks? Lethal and cheap. I haven't been much of a drinker in the past few years, but I still make it a point to get there for lunch every now & then. The food is surprisingly good. I usually get chicken tacos. Boring? Nope- the chicken is super delicious and grilled and the greenery is crispy. Fresh salsa, fresh everything. If you're not scared of drinking next to the homeless guy with a matted beaver tail for hair, belly up to the bar, but head to the patio if you like a more genteel experience. And by "genteel" I mean it's still pretty dirty back there, but whatevs. Totally worth it.

A good dive, as described by others. Elmyr, my daughter and guest for lunch told me, is/was a famous art counterfeiter and the walls are covered in art that I assume was copies of famous pieces. We had spinach burrito and migas. Both good but not fantastic. Has the most lavishly painted restroom I've every seen. Go if just for that!

  • Taylor S.

Super yummy shrimp tacos (a little oily) staff was friendly and quick. Even though it was super busy and filled with a lot of drunks... It was a nice place. Cool vibes and good guacamole. And I love that it's open super late. I'd go again!

Oh, Elmyr. You are delicious. This is a regular for me. Some of my top recommendations: the nachos, anything with pork (it's smoked), & the fajito burrito w/ potatoes. This is simple, Mexican food with a twist. The menu is basically tacos and burritos and their specialty burritos can vary from typical burrito ingredients to pad thai (yes, glass noodles in a burrito). It's fun and it's CHEAP. Oh and have RC in Cola country. YOU KNOW RC RULES.

What's grungy (the good kind), festooned with luchadore paintings/paraphernalia, and churning out burritos the size of Duraflame logs? Elmyr. Yep, and there isn't a darn thing wrong with that. Came in for a Saturday lunch and we were all ravenous. Chips, guac, and salsa was just the ticket. The guac? I had heard some good things about it, but I think we may have ended up with a pretty basic batch that happened to be made with some over-ripened avocados. Psh, not like it mattered. We did all but lick the bowl clean. It's a gracious amount of guac for what you pay, too. Good stuff. I went with the Green Burrito. The sheer size of the monster was comical and also hilariously exciting for my hunger pangs. I proceeded to pick it up and unwrap the foil only to proceed to put it down again. It was packed so full of veggies and beans that I had to fork-and-knife it. I highly enjoyed the sauteed spinach and the hilarious amount of black beans. I couldn't finish it, but we waved goodbye to hunger. Only downside is that smoking is allowed inside. However, the patio makes for a nice compromise. I'm looking forward to coming back for another burrito and maybe a few tall boys. Cheers!

A dive bar with Chipotlesque burritos. Food is descent and the drinks are what you would expect from a dive bar. If you're looking to fill up for cheap you can definitely do worse than Elmyr.

  • Ad A.

I'm new to the area, and this place hit the spot! It upholds the cheap but abundant Mexican food price while adding quality. I had the nacho burrito and I loved it! This is a seat yourself restaurant, which was a bit confusing and not well stated, and I left smelling slightly of cigarette smoke, but other than that, I loved the place!

    (4)
  • Tesol C.

Not bad. Not great. Decent food at a decent price. The service was awful. The waiter really wanted to hang out with his friends and we practically had to beg for a little attention. Given the limited options available at the time visited, we made place work. Given a choice, I would walk right on by.

Got lunch from here to go and I loved it! I see from the other reviews that they deliver and if they deliver to my place then I will definitely be ordering from here often!! I ordered the pad thai burrito and I loved it... I think next time I would ask for either easy on the rice or no rice... (the amount of rice really took away from it)... I highly recommend it!! we also had the tilapia burrito and it was a bit bland... I was not a fan.. prob will not order that again Found my go to casual mexican food spot!

I got shrimp quesadilla. It was huge. If you want to get appetisers, make sure you leave enough room for your main otherwise, risk walking out with a box. My husband ordered the steak burrito. It was huge and weighed a ton. My husband grabbed it and lifted it as if it was a dumb-bell. Be warned, big meal for small money. Come with empty stomach.

Elmyr is a dive bar with gigantic and tasty burritos. I loved the vegan burrito I had, complete with guacamole, potatoes and corn and my out of town friend loved her fajita burrito. Their chips and salsa were also very good and my friend enjoyed the queso. We both were stuffed by the end of the meal and happily tipsy from their delicious beer selection and a strong Dark and Stormy. My friend also enjoyed the fact that she could smoke inside. The service was friendly and quick and made for a decent, cheap, dining experience. If I lived inside the city, I would probably make it a regular Weekend hang out. Cheap food, strong drinks, tasty beer in a good people watching spot.

Hands down this is a hidden gem located in the lil 5 section of town. From the outside of the spot you would have no clue that good mexican food was located on the inside, but it is. Its a real hipster spot, so its loaded with cool cats just vibing out. The bar is super smokey so be prepared for that. Now on to the food and drinks, the margaritas were poured with a heavy hand so that a win. The nachos were packed with meat and cheese so thats an absolute win when you add salsa and guac. The burrito was wrapped in a spinach wrap which set that burrito off. Again this spot is underrated for mexican in the city. Man sure you are prepared to smell like an ashtray when you walk out.

The food is amazing, the location is awesome. Though, if you get a waiter named Sam request someone else! I've been there three times and this last time I had him as a waiter. He was so rude, rushed us through our orders and ending up cursing us out because our tips weren't good enough. Fuck Sam but the steak nachos are perfect.

Some of my vegetarian friends and I decided to try out this place since we heard good stuff about this place. As you walk into this place you will think it's a biker ride shop or something, but some of the place around little five are like that. One quite noticeable yet annoying thing you will see once walking in is that people can smoke in there. Nowadays Georgia law has prohibits smoking in public places except bars but I'm not a smoker so didn't like that. On the flip side the food we ordered was very delicious. I had the spinach, mushroom, and broccoli burrito which was very well cooked and tasted just right. All of there food was very well priced and worth trying out. The waitress was willing to split the check for us and was very quick at it too which was a plus. Overall if you don't smoke then I would say this place is not for you. Knowing how good the food was I would want to come back, but I don't like places where I constantly have to inhale fumes of people smoking while trying to enjoy a decent meal.

I love Elmyr. Drinks are always good and tasty, food is fantastic (HUGE portions for the price). I especially love that they don't pile in rice in their burritos so it's FULL of veggies. Everything is fresh and flavorful. I got the shrimp burrito and man was it delicious. Haven't been here in a long time, and I have to say, things seemed off this time. The place wasn't packed, but there was a good bit of people for a Monday night. That being said, things seemed to take an awfully long time (especially for 2 burritos). I also ordered a Mojito. The first round was delicious and refreshing. The second round, however, was a bit strange. The drink was almost yellow in color and tasted a little weird. The service is usually much faster, so I don't know what happened last night. If you want to get away from the smoke, the patio is a good option. Also, they do deliver until 9pm, which is fantastic!

A hole in the wall's hole in the wall. Dive bar vibe within walking distance from anything in little five. Fun atmosphere with incredibly delicious and fresh food. I had a nacho burrito, paid less than $6 and was amazed at how satisfied I was. Maybe the best burrito I have ever had to date. This is my new favorite go to local spot.

I finally made the trip across the street and ate INSIDE. I expected bad service, as I had heard a few horror stories. I know, I know. You don't really know until you see for yourself. Well, was I proven sooooo wrong. We had excellent service. So, I figured I needed to update this review. Give eating-in a shot, even if you have heard stories from a friend of friends cousin's sister. Oh, and heads up, it's smokey. It wasn't bad the night I was there, but if you have a hard time with the smokers, this is not for you.

I read a lot of mixed reviews about this place. The two main pitfalls being bad service and a smoky environment. Personally, I went with a friend on a Saturday afternoon and had great service that was super quick. We sat on the porch though because the inside was unbearable for those who don't smoke. That was fine though and to be expected from a dive bar atmosphere. I had a hard time choosing between three or four stars for this place. I'm a vegetarian and the menu had plenty of options so that was ideal. However, I ordered the green chili and potato burrito and it was good but nothing special. I've eaten at some really fantastic burrito joints that are similar in style to this place but with much more delicious vegetarian stuff. My friend also ordered a beer and never got it. The server apologized later and took it off our tab without being asked anyways. The beer selection itself seemed pretty decent though for a whole-in-the-wall location. I would still go back and try something else if I lived in the area. The portions are definitely huge and at a good price.

Cheap, fast, punk rock burritos. The quesadillas are massive, add potatoes and broccoli for a truly filling meal under 10 dollars.

  • David S.

Went here because I heard the nachos were awesome. After taking my carry out order home, I opened the box to find hardly anything on the nachos. A few sprinkles of lettuce and onions, a couple of pieces of pork, and a bunch of hard melted cheese that made it impossible to pull the nachos apart. It ain't that hard to make nachos, I mean come on. You would think the person who handed me the food might have at least looked inside and seen how crappy it looked. So screw you el myr for charging $7.50 for a box of chips. Dicks.

There's a rumor circulating Kirkwood that Elmyr might open a 2nd location in the old Ms. Winners spot, so I decided to do some recon and visit the original. 1st off, this spot is a smoking location. It wasn't real smoky when we were there and it didn't bother us, but I know people are more sensitive to this than I am. 2nd off, the on street parking in front of Elmyr is not free, there is a meter somewhere that we never saw (and came back to a parking ticket on our windshield due to how dark it was on the street and our ignorance). So find that meter and pay it. 3rd off, the food here was really good! I got the pulled pork burrito (also called the BRUNSWICK BURRITO) and it was HUGE and delicious. Reminded me of the old days of Tortillas! My significant other got the nachos and devoured them. Prices were really reasonable and it would have been a great cheap dinner night out (if not for our parking ticket). Overall I'm a huge fan and will be back, and will be thrilled if Elmyr chose to open a Kirkwood location I could walk to!

This has been one of my go to places for years for great margueritas and quesadillas, especially before a show at the Variety Playhouse. This place is a dive in a good way. I don't like the smoke, but I sit in the screened area where the area is more open. Service can be friendly, surly, or by someone as high as hell...but it doesn't matter. This is a great classic that embodies L5P.

  • Ling S.

It's a grudgy little restaurant / dive bar located around the center of the little 5 points area in ATL. Definitely one of those places, you're glad they keep the lighting low so you can't exactly tell how clean everything is. Ignorance is bliss in this case. We ordered coronitas with a shot of tequila to fill the rest of the bottle. A guaranteed good time. The bartenders are quick and friendly. Unfortunately, I didn't get to order any food, but it looked delicious from the servers walking by. Just a heads up... This is a smoking restaurant! Something I'm not used to anymore, since FL prohibited it inside any of our restaurants.

Great mexican food, great neighborhood, great service, cheap food and cheaper beers! This is a great spot for a lazy weekend lunch or dinner. Highly recommended: the vegan quesedilla- but order it with cheese :), and the green burrito! Eat on the screened-in patio if the weather is right, the fresh air makes the experience even better. They also have 21st Amendment Hell or High Watermelon beer, so that's a mega plus in my book.

This is a place that I'm pretty sure I could have a great time at while drinking & smoking & eating. Today, however, I was just eating & it was just OK. I will try again...hopefully for margaritas.

    (3)
  • Donnell S.

Food and margaritas were fantastic. It's a bit warm and sticky in there, but the drinks will make you forget about that. I'd give it 5 stars but the service was rude (from what I've heard thats normal here) and they basically ran us out of there before we were done. It was an overall good experience but I'm not sure I'd go back.

The Yelp reviews on this place do not lie. Lately, it seems like we've frequently been on the lookout for late-night eats and I think Elmyr has been the best discovery yet. We came here after Music Midtown, tired, sore, and starving. Being in our early 30s, we were probably a little out of Elmyr's demo, but that wouldn't stop me from coming back because OMGBURRITONOMNOMNOM. The green burrito was spicy and delicious and because it had a bunch of veggies, I can pretend it's a health food. Totally hit the spot at 1:30. Great prices too. We shall return.

This might be the biggest shocker while I was in ATL. My brother told me they had good food but when you walk in there is nothing that even gives you a hint of that. It's dark, smokey, and feels like the ultimate dive bar. The crowd is a bit hipster-ish and the music coming through the speakers is quite interesting but really adds to the mood of the place. I wasn't going to eat but, in the end, I opted for the pad thai burrito. It was so intriguing I couldn't pass. I was super hungry so worst case would be just wasting six bucks on it! All I could say is: WOW! I mean WOW! I loved it... the perfect hybrid I never thought about it. There is zero question I would order this again the next time I come here! They also had a Shift from New Belgium, which was excellent... which leads me to beer selection. It's small in general but they have some craft beers to make up for it!

I would give this restaurant 5 stars if smoking weren't allowed. I love the dive bar atmosphere and art. The service was excellent. I had a shrimp burrito and my boyfriend had a pork burrito. We shared a side of pinto beans. There were so many interesting burritos that I had a hard time deciding what to choose. There is even a pad thai burrito. I don't normally like green salsa, but I loved Elmyr's. The food tasted so fresh and good that we will definitely return again. FYI, I notice that someone mentioned the parking. The restaurant has free parking behind the restaurant. We didn't drive, so I didn't see the parking lot. Our waitress told us about it though. If the parking lot is full, you can always park for free on the side street beside the condos which are a little to the left across the street from Elmyr. Also, beware of the dangerous walkway ramps if you sit in the restaurant area. I nearly tripped on both of them. Even though this is a "hipster" place, anyone will feel welcome.

Definitely the perfect little dive bar in Five Points complete with very little seating, not a lot of standing room, but an impressive mexican food selection. I love getting to customize each of their burritos and I was happy to be able to grab their pork and add their green chiles. The portions were HUGE, and I eat quite a bit. My burrito was able to be 1 1/2 meals on its own. It came out boiling hot so I was glad to have a cold beer to calm my mouth down. My friend grabbed the veggie quesadillas and the quesadilla was actually so big it was overflowing the edges of the plate, hers was such a generous portion that hers was a full two meals. I snagged a bite of it and was happy, it also came with complimentary sour cream and a plop of guacamole. I would have happily given them five stars but the service was, as others say, just not very good. All of the staff is super nice and happy to talk to you, but we waited about 40 minutes for our food. Too long when there's just not enough people even IN the bar to have the kitchen backed up. I'd still go back though, the food is yummy and the beer is cold. Makes me happy on a day in Hotlanta!

I've been to El Myr multiple times over the past decade. Most recently, I learned you can get stuff delivered. "The rumors are true!" Say what! Unfortunately, we've tried twice and failed. The first time it was just after 9pm. Second time, it was Inman Park Festival and they weren't battling traffic, which I don't blame them. They will deliver from noon to 9pm most days.. Not sure of the radius. The queso is super tasty, a little spicy.. and the chips, although plain, are great. They are super fresh - I can eat them for a couple days and they're still pretty excellent. The guac is also good, fresh. The burritos are delish and probably weigh like 3lbs, holy crap. Great to share if you're also getting queso, guac or other sides. Try the Fajito burrito and the Nacho burrito. It's a fine place to go visit and eat (and great when you're going to get schwilled) but if you're not down with smoke or smokers, you're not going to be happy here. So, despite the personal fails on delivery, even ordering to go is definitely worth trying. Plus they're super fast, last order to-go was done in about 10-15 minutes.

I love this place. This is my favorite place to go. Delicious, quickly-made, simple ingredients, amazing prices. Nothing I've ever tried there has been bad, or just okay (although all I am addicted to the spinach & jalapeno quesadilla and order that 99.9% of the time these days). Great margaritas, consistent, and a big glass for $5 or $6. Yes it has become exponentially hipster-ridden, but what hasn't these days, and at least here you can section yourself away a little in a corner table. P.S. Friday nights the music gets loud, there is usually a DJ. Other times there's just the jukebox. I usually go for early lunch/dinner because I like the calm of the place.

The place is somewhat a hidden gem for late night Mexican staples. The burritos here are quite tasty! Though I was very much intrigued by the Green Burrito, I opted for the Shrimp Burrito instead and was very happy with decision! Our margaritas were pretty good too. Overall, a very good experience... we'll definitely be back!

Best Mexican food outside of Buford Highway. The prices are great (for the food and the drinks), and the food is amazing. I had the nacho burrito, which was delicious.

A few weeks ago El Myr starting posting pictures on their Facebook wall of meals I've never seen there, enchiladas, flautas, tostadas... and each meal came in a meaty and vegan option! The husband and I had to check this out! When we sat down at our favorite table the waiter came over and asked us if we were ready to order. My nerdy ass busted out my phone and showed him the picture from their wall and I said, "I. Want. THIS." We got the tofu tostadas and they were awesome!! Crunchy corn tortillas, tofu, a nice chunky sauce...drool. The sides were refreshing for El Myr- rice, beans, and guacamole. We tried to eat it all but ended up with to go boxes. The downside of this story? I ran some errands alone and came home ready to eat my leftovers only to find the to go box in the trash and my husband sheepishly looking at me with a bean eating grin. He almost slept on the couch that night.

I really love Elmyr. Their food is delicious and their portion sizes are big. I never think I'll finish my food but I always do. The staff is pretty nice and they have a few vegan options which are all really good. You have to order a margarita while you're there. The ambiance is sort of dive-barish and I love dive bars. .

If you like huge, fantastic burritos served up with a complimentary side of snark and second-hand smoke, you'll love Elmyr. To their credit, the food is sublime--the burritos are reasonably priced and about the size of a premature infant, and there are lots of vegetarian and vegan options. This much I truly love. However, if you have either asthma or good manners, you're liable feel out of breath or out of place here. And if you have both, well then, all I can say is bless your heart, good luck, and god speed. Oh, and do as I've learned to do: call ahead and get it to go.

Waitstaff must have had a rough night when we same in. I've been here about ten times before but last night was the first time I had bad service. My server came to the table to take my order and I never saw her again until I was ready to leave. When my friend's food came out some of the order was missing. I had to go find my server after being done eating for 30 minutes to ask for the check. She never came back to get the money, another server came by to close us out. He tried to take the tip even though he wasn't our server. "You don't need change do you?" Why yes sir I do actually. After we left him no tip he chased behind us yelling out, "thanks guys".... so childish. Like I mentioned it's usually never a problem but last night was terrible. The food and drinks were delicious though. No problems there.

Love the bar, but the food is just OK for me. Dig the cheese dip, but skip the margarita. . Good for a late night snack and PBR for those who arent looking to seriously judge a place for food quality. Great community vibe for a L5P bar. PORTIONS ARE HUGE

I bring people here all the time, especially if they have never been before. Everyone usually agrees that the food here is amazingly good if not great. Even those from out of state and from other countries are impressed by the great food and unique atmosphere. In addition to the Mexican beers, I especially like the McHenry's Whiskey / Bourbon they have - not many other places have it. Say hello to permanent fixture Ronald who will likely to be sitting at the end of the bar, watching TV and drinking a PBR. Ronald is a friendly and interesting character and is perhaps El Myr's equivalent to the late, great Gesture Steve of The Local. UPDATE: Alright. Gotta say it. I am starting to notice a recurring pattern with one of the bartenders here and I am talking about the tall chick who used to work at The Local. Tip between 18 and 20 percent and you will detect a bit of the stink-eye attitude. And I throw down one or two more bones outa guilt. And if you pay cash and expect change coming back, you might as well forget about it if your change corresponds to roughly 25 to 30 percent gratuity. Maybe it's just part of the vide / attitude of the place; however, I am not sure I am cool with being made the target of a shake down

I was a little sceptical when a coworker brought me here for lunch.... please don't judge a book by it's cover! Can we say, so good! I LOVE the BBQ chicken quesadia! If you go after 5:30pm, you have to try the queso dip, can you say.... umm umm good!

I absolutely love the food here. I could eat the nachos all day long and they have tons of vegetarian options (Green burrito soooo good!) Their drinks are also really strong, 1 margarita or long island and I'm tipsy as hell. One huge problem however, worst service ever! I once saw my waitress leave and walk down the street-she never came back. No one helped us-we got up and left without paying because it was outrageous. Another time, again we are the only people there, we ordered guac, queso, and salsa to start-emptied the basket of chips in minutes. Waited. Waited. Waited. Finally had to walk in the kitchen and ask for more and they told us we had to pay for extra chips, wtf? The food almost makes up for the service. And the guy servers are all much nicer than the girls, so try to get a male server. Also awesome art all over the place!

LOVE LOVE LOVE for El Myr. I find myself craving their thai burrito with tofu sometimes. Go here on a Tuesday night for a quick dinner. On the weekend they're pretty packed so just skip it if you're starving. I've tried their specials a few times but honestly I like to stick with their main menu. I'm a fan of the hazedilla (for vegans) their guac, beans and rice. We've been going here off and on for years and I used to find it really disturbing how grouchy the servers are (as others have noted), but over the years it's really kind of grown on me - I guess it's kinda their thing so whatever. Here's a tip: have your whole order (drinks, chip/dip, entree) ready when your server zooms by your table the first time and you'll be amazed at how quickly everything will show up. Do NOT ask for a few minutes, because 1)it's gonna be awhile and 2)it's a burrito and beer joint so just pick something, it will be good. Love you guys! See ya on Tuesday!

VERY SMALL place. HIDDEN restroom...kinda cool. Great little spot to grab a bite or drink... or both and just relax. I don't know why I find this place relaxing...but I do.

Good, solid burritos. I'd give this restaurant 4 stars for the food, but 3 for the whole experience. I had read the Yelp reviews already, so I tried to mentally prepare myself (smoking allowed, rude service, etc) but I guess since I've lived in a smoke-free-restaurant state for so many years I just didn't remember how awful a place can smell... even though I didn't see anyone smoking while we were there for lunch, it just smelled like musty, stale, old smoke. Not appetizing. But anyway, I was pleasantly surprised that our server was perfectly nice, since I had read some negative things. Also, we had no trouble parking because we got there right after they opened for lunch, but it's a pretty small parking lot behind the restaurant, so I can see how parking would be tricky at busier times. The menu is amazing, so I still want to go back on our next trip to Atlanta (maybe for carry-out though), because this time the burrito I got was great but not like the best burrito ever or anything. The Green Burrito was pretty spicy, and very huge and delicious. I was wary of broccoli on a burrito, but they cook it perfectly so it fits right in. My husband tried the Brunswick Burrito and he said it was good, but not amazing. There are just a lot of unique burritos on the menu that I'd love to try, so I think if I get a chance to go back and try them and they're as good as they sound, I'll have to re-review and bump it up a star.

That's not a commercial tortilla. I know a commercial tortilla when I taste one and that's something else! Something airy and fresh! I had the smoked pulled pork taco tonight and it was a JOY! A Joy I Say! Fresh, light, meaty and delicious! Bing, Bong, Bang, Boomerang! Sure El Myr is smoky... sure it's cheap... and yes... it's filled with dirty hipsters spilling out onto the floor. But really... isn't that part of it's charm? Isn't it?

Very disappointed in my visit, the reviews were great on Yelp so I decided to visit. However I must warn future Yelp reviewers that this is an all smoking restaurant. I left and went to Porter Bar which was great as usual.

Cough Cough...I can't breathe. I'm not a particular fan of places where people can smoke where food is being served. That being said I'm not a fan of dive bars. If you are a smoker and you are looking for the dive bar experience, look no further. You have found it. The people are friendly and it seems like a hipster, funky dive bar where it's dim yet somehow the sunshine still makes it way through the windows. Enjoy.

Every yelp review about this place is pretty accurate. It's definitely a hipster location, but man are the burritos good. It's dark and dingy when you walk in and smoky ( If you don't like smoke, don't go here). You sit wherever you can and wait for a server to notice that you are without a menu. Once you get one you have a nice selection of burritos and they are seriously delicious. I chose the Tilapia Burrito which has grilled fish and is absolutely wonderful. The burrito is massive and I had enough for 1.5 servings, of absolute deliciousness. My friend chose the Pad Thai Burrito, and that is a combination that I would never have expected to taste so good but it did. All of their ingredients seem fairly fresh and it's delicious. I would go back more often if I lived closer, but it'll have to be a more spontaneous thing.

Open late + gigantor burritos + 1 block from home = perfect drunk food spot. Yes, the burritos are more bean than anything else, but when you're as wasted as you are and your tab is as cheap as it is, who would ever think to complain? This place is pure genius, and I'm quite thrilled to have it so close by.

I've yet to really figure out why anyone likes Elmyr. The atmosphere is pretty bad, even for a dive bar. The staff is rude. The food is mostly bland, and when it's not, it's frightening. Maybe it's for the grizzes. That must be it. Don't go here.

    (2)
  • Gwen H.

I have never had a problem with service at Elmyr. Went last night and it was great. But yes, alas, the other reviews are true- it IS a smokey dive bar. What? A smokey dive bar that serves delicious burritos and awesome jalapeno margaritas at a reasonable price in L5P? Yep. If that's not your sort of thing, I'm pretty sure Buckhead is still open for business

  • Cyndi P.

Totally addicted to their BBQ Tofu quesadilla. El Myr is a dive bar in the middle of one of the busiest parts of town for hipsters. That comes with tight spaces (close to bathrooms), slow service (on the regular) and cheap beer. Pros or cons? Depends on the day. I love the place. I can overlook the questionable service for that damn bbq sauce and a big, ass cold beer. R. Land art is big BONUS! I have never had a bad time in this joint.

  • Teddy D.

I don't come to El Myr to eat. Don't get me wrong, the food is really good. Burritos are excellent! However, I come to El Myr to drink. When it comes to drinking and good times, El Myr doesn't play games. The staff is great! Sure, some reviews say they are slow, but be friendly and courteous and you'll have no complaints. The prices, completely fair. The jukebox or DJ's, some of the best in the city. What i'm saying is if you have just want a cheap beer, great burrito and top good punk rock El Myr is one of the best in Atlanta. Drop the pretentious act and you'll love El Myr, one of the ATL's finest.

I'm giving this place a 3 only because my service was crap. I won't say the servers were rude, just real nonchalant. It took a long time for someone to come over and get my drink, and I waited a while for my food and check as well. Okay, soapbox over. Now the food is ridiculously good. I got the skillet burrito and I was not prepared. It's freakin huge!!! I should have known when he brought me a fork, I wasn't getting that bad boy down. It was filled with potatoes, black beans, pinto beans, salsa and something else. So delish. The salsa inside was great, and the tortilla was very fresh tasting. I'm not sure if it was whole wheat or something else. I really liked the food here, and the prices are awesome. It's a great little find in ATL. Just don't expect service suited for royalty.

God Bless Elmyr. It is the best in its class. Hands down, my absolute favorite burrito in town. The place feels a bit like a dive, and won't suit a prima donna diner, but it is solidly good food, and super cheap for how tasty it is. Don't go expecting any frills, and you'll be pleased with the awesome food and friendly vibe. My standby dishes are the BBQ chicken burrito and the chicken tacos. Both are terrific. The chicken has always perfectly cooked, and well seasoned. The burrito is huge, and--if you 86 the lettuce--the half I usually take home works well as a hangover breakfast. I love their tortillas--they're light and have a great texture to them. The trimmings are solid too--great salsa with a bit of a kick to it, nicely seasoned beans and rice. I'm not much of a pork person, but I was told they've started smoking meat in-house, so I'll have to give that a try soon, too. The addition of specials advertised on Facebook is a welcome one, though this is one of those places where I stick to my reliable favorites. I've also got to give credit to the servers, who are always friendly and knowledgeable. I usually go on off-peak times, but I know the wait can get obnoxious on weekends and, unless something's changed in the last year, if there's not a table, you basically just have to stand around out front, stalking exiting patrons to grab a table as soon as they leave.

The food is terrific. I particularly like the pad tai burrito/quesadilla--such healthy and hearty meals! Problems: Service is often slow and the place can get really hot. Verdict: Go buy yourself a dang quesadilla.

Potato corn and black olive burrito. It's like a drunken chain-smoking angel made a late night gift just for me. The guacamole is surprisingly good, too. Just beware of leaving your food. The fucking hipsters will steal it off your plate. No lie.

  • Melissa T.

A definite L5P treasure! The margaritas are....strong, limey, wonderful concoctions that get the job done. I also love the fresh guacamole and salsa. The burritos are as big as my head though, but they are cheap enough so I don't mind leaving half my plate. And they have Ronnie Land's art all over the walls. I love this local artist!

    (4)
  • Alex C.

The food is alright. It's not particularly special, but it is really cheap and open late. They also have a pretty good selection of beers on tap for $4 a pint. The down side is that you have an extra helping of cigarette smoke with all your food which can suck.

  • Maya G.

This place has tons of flavor--in its clientele, staff, and most importantly, its food. My fairly infrequent stops after a show at the Playhouse for some of the most inventive veggie (or non-veggie, for those who still who still prefer the animal flesh) late-night fare in town, have morphed into semi-regular visits for brunch, lunch, or dinner. I have my go-to vegan Pad Thai burrito, but am never disappointed when I branch outside of my comfort zone and try one of the daily specials that allows a veg tweak. Oh, and did I mention that they have Crispin on draft? My sole complaint, as a nonsmoker, is the smoke. So I simply leave the smokers in peace and take my deliciousness to go!

I came here on my birthday and I experienced anything, but a happy staff. I brought 4 other guests with me and I was extremely excited to bring them to a nice and quirky Mexican restaurant. I did visit on a Sunday for lunch, but it seemed that the entire staff was lethargic and unhappy to be at work. I can understand this, but we waited about 8-10 minutes to even get menus and we were the ONLY people in the restaurant. I could not believe this. If I hadn't been so hungry, I would have left immediately. Overall, our food was just alright. I do not think I will be back again.

Best dive bar in L5P! the food is great and cheap, Pad Thai burrito is insane, so are the quesadillas. Great staff, crowd, love meeting friends there. And it's a great spot for lunch too!

Favorite burritos in Atlanta! The pork is great, i like the pork nachos. I love their specialty burritos like the green burrito, the brunswick burrito and the Pad Thai. Huge tacos, great cheese dip and guac. Yummy margs, relaxed atmosphere, and they deliver?! yess please!

This dive-bar mexican joint always serves up the same quality dining experience. The wait staff is surprisingly nice and understanding, the food is always tasty (I recommend the 3 pepper nacos or the tofu and green bell pepper burrito), and the margaritas are always made from mix. Great atmosphere too, LOVE THIS PLACE!

I met the love of my life, my husband, at this place. We had a wonderful time together while sipping on chilly tap beer, sitting next to the window and watching the vibrance of Little Five Points go by. It's a great place to grab a drink before a show at The Variety Playhouse. It became a ritual for us. Four years later, we often remember El Myr with affection. We can't wait to come back when we visit Atlanta. Cheers!

I'm a non-smoker and cant usually stand smokey places....but I absolutely LOVE The Myr! Elmyr is the freakin' greatest place to go and hang out at, closed it down many a nights and met some awesome people who I now call friends there too! The staff is top notch, great personalities and attitudes! Oh, and the food? Surprising insanely good! No-one that I have brought there has disagreed with me and Ive never ordered anything that wasnt good! If you're ever in L5P's I HIGHLY recommend making this a stop! And dont forget to try a Grizz!!!!

I just found out about this lil gem today at work. Decided to go at the last minute. When I got there the place was packed. Luckily, we found a seat near the entrance. I'd heard about the drinks and OMG! the person who told me about the drinks was RIGHT! 2 of us at the table, I decided to order a pitcher of Margarita, instead of a glass. I couldn't finish the second glass because the Margarita was so good and strong, drinking 2 would have been too many. I ordered the 'bowl of shrimp', which was only 5 shrimp in a cup atop a cup full of lettuce. I also ordered 2 soft tacos, which I could barely finish because they were so big. Other than being a smoky place, I am very happy that I was told about this place. My total bill from a pitcher of Margarita, 1 appetizer, 2 soft tacos, and an order of nachos with steak was only $42.10. Which I was very happy with. I am stuffed and feeling very good right now from the Margaritas, so hopefully this post makes sense...lol. This is a very good place to go with friends who don't mind a smoky atmosphere, good food, and Very good drinks! I will be back very soon!

Crowded, smokey pigeonhole. The fish tacos are delish but after taking a peek at the kitchen a few years back I wouldn't dare touch any of the food with a ten foot dildo. In other news, the tall, curly black haired guy who does everything is quite a sight. Someone give that man a GQ cover! Hubba Hubba!

  • T L.

While the food was pretty tasty and well-priced, the service was so pissy-pants and attitude-tastic, it's not a return-for-more kind of place. Additionally, I was blown away and repulsed by the smoking everywhere. Eating delicious burritos is greatly marred by the sulky-secondary-smoke of the actively-uncaring hipster youth. The food is California-style Mexican with yummy choices like black beans, sauteed fish burritos and pretty good salsa. Maybe take-out is the way to go. If you smoke and don't care about being treated like an unwelcome bother, you will love it. Burritos are $5-7; maybe our server had on the wrong underwear that day or was nursing a gaping flesh wound which made him sneery.... Smoke is everywhere and sadly, destroys the deliciousness of the food.

El Myr is like a little black dress after a night of hard drinking. It fits every single occasion and won't show a new stain. Mostly cause there are so many already! I love El Myr for lunch, brunch, dunch, and Holy god what time is it?? You never know what kind of service you will get. Most recently my server was so distracted by some dude on a motorcycle that he didn't even look at me while he took my order. I'm hoping the back story went something like this: There's that dude I need to shoot! But, I'm working. What to do, what to do. I really need to put a plug in him, but this chick hasn't ordered yet. Crap!! There he goes. Oh, well. What do you want to eat? I love the potato, corn and black olive burrito. It's a solid go-to for me. But, I've recently discovered the Hazadilla - a delightful vegan version of the quesadilla crammed full of veggies. Drink-wise El Myr covers every dark corner from PBR, to the Grizz which is a Coronita with a shot of tequila on top ( I know it sounds dangerous but it's fantastic), to their strong but cheap margaritas, to my most recent lover - The Dark & Stormy. Dark & Stormy you spicy angel, you! It's dark rum with ginger beer and they serve it in a tall glass for $6. It tastes so good and warms up the belly and the soul. But, enough prose about El Myr. If you want to read more, there's plenty written on the walls in the restroom.

Mexican dive bar. The food is so/so. The drink selection is so/so. I always get the impression something shady is about to happen. What's with the people in Little 5 always asking for 75 cents? What costs 75 cents anyways?

  • Joshua B.

Atmosphere is dark and smoky. The food was mediocre and the service was worse. It seemed like we spent our whole time there waiting on our waiter to come back to us even though he only had three tables. The food was OK but certainly didn't live up to the hype in my opinion.

  • Jeremy D.

Elmyr is awesome. The burritos are huge, tasty and cheap. I'm particularly fond the steak they put in their burritos - it's just plain good. The chips and salsa, although not the best I've ever had, are good. But given the size of the burrito, do you really need chips? This place is really affordable for both food and beer, and it's a great spot to eat if you're getting ready for a show at the Variety.

Dear Elmyr, You are indeed worthy of 4 stars. While I had to stoke out my table, and hunt a server down every now and then, you delivered. And here's why... #1: Your food is cheap - I was starving last night (Saturday), and opted for the shrimp tacos ($7.75) with green sauce (picante). That + a pitcher of sangria ($13) with friends brought my contribution to around $12. Not too bad given my slight buzz and full stomach, which brings me to my next point... #2: Your portions are large - I spent at least 5 minutes contemplating how best to eat my shrimp taco. It was that stuffed! My taco was filled to the brim with shrimp and came wrapped in two tortillas. And what's more, it was actually pretty good! Even without the green sauce, it had a slight kick from the spicy slaw. And I love me some fresh cilantro. #3: Your service is quick- Like seriously speedy. We ordered and five minutes later had our sangria. Another five minutes or so and we had our tacos - my friend ordered the grilled mahi, which she also loved. #4: You don't put up a front- You're not pretending to be anything you're not. Your servers aren't rude, but they do check in when they feel like it, and if we want their attention, you expect us to have the gall to get it. I kinda like that about you. And most importantly.... #5: You entertain me- Seriously, if there's one sin I'm guilty of other than gluttony, it's people watching and Elmyr is like a gold mine. For those reading, if you're anything like me I suggest you get a table in the front room by the bar. You won't be disappointed. Overall, I just want to say that I had a great time last night! Thank you for feeding me Elmyr, Broke Student Deb

I'm hoping to move walking distance from here. I'm scared. My first visit came because a friend from Boston was visiting and I wanted something new to me, cheap, and very Atlanta, and a friend suggested Elmyr. I don't think either of us had intended on eating, it was like 10pm, but everything sounded good. The night was a blur but we split a margarita pitcher, which was awesome, and then I think I had a bbq chicken quesadilla. Maybe it was pork. I do know it was a quesadilla. And huge. And delicious. I have since had a burrito, the potato and green chile one. Holy crap that thing is HUGE for under six bucks. And margaritas are $5 and come in a pint glass. I LOVE THIS PLACE. Only downfall is the service is pretty rough but kinda should expect that when looking at this place.

Waited almost an hour for our food and then had to get it to go....... The bartender acted like it was a huge inconvenience for her..... No apology whatsoever... I live right around the corner but she treated us like tourist because my friend had a collared shirt on.... Don't go there unless you're tatted out in dreads..... Just curious why people that came in 15 minutes after us were served before we us.... Just have to mention I've been bartending for 20 years and this is the first review I have ever taken the time to write.....

Three words. PAD THAI BURRITO. Get it. Eat it. Love it. In other news, the place has a dive bar feel and smoking is allowed inside. So if you're sensitive to the smell, get it to go. Love the prices and the flavors. Definitely a must in L5P.

Dive bar, yes. People watching, yes. Decently priced food, yes. Outstanding service, no. I headed there for a low key date night on Friday. We were lucky enough to snag a 2 person table in the corner. After about 5 minutes, a guy came over and tossed some menu's on the table and walked away. About 5 minutes later he came back and we ordered margs, a beer, and the trio of dips (I'd 100% pass on the chips and dip next time...the guac was in desperate need of salt, lime, or any flavor really. The queso was subpar Velveeta, at best. The salsa was most edible of the three...and it was almost $10. Chips were a little soft, like they'd been sitting out for a while). We both ordered quesadillas, I had rice & black beans, he had the steak. Both were ahhhhh-mazing. I was sad that I ordered the chips and dips because I really loved my quesadilla but could only eat half, it was so large. I boxed the rest and gave it to a homeless guy outside. Price was incredible good for both these items. It's an experience, for sure. I loved seeing the eclectic mix of patrons, and servers (we had 3 people covering our table because they kept disappearing). Marg was pretty strong. Food wasn't bad to boot. Will I be making this my regular Mexican go-to? Absolutely not. But I will go back.

My friend and I were in the Little Five Points area studying and decided to grab dinner before heading back home. Elmyr was right around the corner so we decided to check the place out. I ordered some soft tacos of smoked pork and steak and my friend ordered the pas thai burrito. The food came out pretty quickly, probably since there weren't too much people eating out on a rainy evening. We were both extremely shocked by the gigantic size of the burrito. I'd say it was nearly as big as or perhaps even larger than the Chipotle burritos. She said it was delicious and the inside was packed with so many ingredients. I also enjoyed my tacos. I'm not sure I loves the pork one but definitely liked the steak tacos. The meat pieces were big and chewy, just as I like them. Elmyr is definitely a place worthy of revisiting. I'll come back for lunch on a sunny day to see how different the ambience would be.

The place to be for huge burritos. I think that's all I've ever ordered here. My wife remarked on how I eat my huge burrito all wrong. Unlike some who tend to stand it tall and eat downwards, I prefer leaving it prone, slicing end to end and filling the gash with salsa. From there, it gets a bit messier, but I don't care. Green burrito is my favorite. Always had good service here.

The customer service of my waiter was horrendous. Will never return. Never in my life have I been treated so poorly and with such disrespect in a restaurant/bar. Unbelievable. Food looked good but after an hour of waiting on drinks, we left.

If terrible service doesn't bother you, you'll enjoy the fresh food which I can never complain about. Decent draft beer selection, but they only have dos Equis Amber on draft, I much prefer the lager. We waited for a server for over 10 minutes. When I went and found a server, an older woman, I mentioned to her that we hadn't been helped yet and she responded quite loudly "Welp, we'll get to you!" with no sense of urgency or concern. The waiter finally came over and asked if we needed to order...he also had no sense of urgency and cut me off when I started ordering tacos and said "you don't want a drink?" Why yes I do...but I'm hungry and want to be sure you get my full order. The tacos are great, I especially love the shrimp tacos, the mahi are okay but could use more flavor. The portions are large and you can tell the veggies are fresh, always an abundance of cilantro which I appreciate. If it weren't for the food being consistent I wouldn't go back, but I do from time to time and put up with the service. However, more taco spots are opening across Atlanta...

The place seems to be the coolest place to hang out at in Atlanta's little five points, I dont think i am cool enough to be in here. As i am from fl i dont remember even when smoking was allowed in restaurants so that became really annoying really fast, the staff was wandering about and seemed to be on something the whole time. A server even came by with a beer later and talked to a person at our table for an extended period of time when he brought us our food. Its not really a place for me. The BBQ chicken taco was dry. The saving grace was a good guac and a good queso.

Not even sure I would call the food here edible. I ended up ordering a chips and queso, and the steak tacos. The chips and queso... Well, the best way to describe that is as if they went to the grocery store and bought a bag of tostitos, and a package of velvet cheese... Wow I could have made this at my house, but way better. Plus, the chips were stale! How do you mess up something so simple? As for the tacos, the steak was over cooked and very chewy. The lettuce was wilted, and soggy, and there was more cheese than any thing else. I'm very confused as to why any of the reviews for this restaurant are good. When you go out, you want something that actually tastes better than something you can whip up at home, and here you can't get that. Otherwise I guess no one here knows what flavor, or quality is. I'd rather go to taco bell. Lastly, the service and overall atmosphere.. I ended up having to wait 6 minutes before anyone ever came to my table even though two servers walked by 3 times. If you're going to have a seat yourself type establishment, make sure you have some type of system that ensures the customers actually get service. I also did not realize places other than strictly bars allowed smoking inside. It's 2015. Get with the program. Not everyone and their mother wants to enhale smoke at the risk of their health, especially when wanting to get a taco.

This L5P tradition deserves your attention. Elmyr is the stuff of myth. Legend has it that a love-struck chupacabra cried silver tears upon the spot and that's where the first burrito tree grew. Back then, it cost about three-fifty. But the simple truth of the matter (at least in modern day), is that they make some excellent burritos (and related fare). You won't go home hungry. I had a Green burrito with some steak in it. It totally hit the spot. It was larger than my fist, and I still ate it. Delicious. And the prices are good. Occasional specials will sometimes put a burrito and a beer in your hand for south of $10. What's not to like about that? Speaking of which, the bar will happily serve up whatever deleterious substance you may desire. And this is L5P. Little Five Points (for the uninitiated) is known for its color, its counter-culture, its artistry, and for being the general bohemian melting-pot that it so wonderfully is. Elmyr is part and parcel of the whole L5P experience. This means no pretenses. It means genuine, no-holds-barred discourse, graffiti, and just cool people. It also means "smoker friendly," in case you are averse to such things (as I am). But the food is delicious, and I'll happily return for more. Holler if you're coming with.

Nacho burrito. Fish tacos. Strongest Texas Magarita I have ever had. The service is really terrible, which is why it gets 5 stars instead of 500. This is my favorite place to get great food and a margarita in Atlanta.

I had the nacho burrito. Yes, a nacho burrito. I think this kind of insanity is illegal in most of the mainland 48, but not in the Nasty ATL. The burrito was amazing. The drinks were stiff. The crowd were adorable little hipsters. I would go back, again and again. It was much better than Cats.

If you don't mind smoky atmospheres with slow, moody staff, this place has awesome burritos for a great price. I think their secret is cilantro, but I am not sure. even their potato burrito (daily special with drink, for $5) was awesome. When I think of burritos and beer, this place makes the top of the list.

When my boyfriend said we were going to get burritos for lunch, I got excited when I thought we were going to eat Mexican! When we pulled up at this ecletic spot, I was not sure what to expect.... We started off ordering a pitcher of Sangria and Chips, Salsa, & Queso. The salsa was fresh and had a good kick from the chopped jalapenos. For the burritos, we got the Pad Thai Burrito and a Tilapia Burrito. WoW! That Pad Thai burrito was dope and I absolutely loved the flavors in the tilapia burrito. I do not like fried fish in my burritos or tacos, so this tilapia burrito was awesome in my book! I would come back to try the other monstrous size burritos!

Speaking from past experience, the best way to get to know a city is to day drink on a weekday. I've done this many times before when I end up traveling alone. Finished lunch at nearbyish Fox Bros and was in need of a good dive bar. El Myr delivered. I had no idea what to expect about bars in Atlanta. Was greeted with a smoke-filled bar, which having lived in California, Michigan, and New York is quite a change. But a nice thing, in a way. I grab a seat at the bar to commence my day drinking. That's how you meet people. I get carded and bust out my California ID. And then, the conversation starts. I met some really cool people and we talked about all sorts of things - smoking, the south, New York, Steely Dan, you name it. I had a bountiful amount of beverages. It was good Southern Hospitality, and really, that's all you need.

El Myr is single-handedly responsible for my very recent burrito addiction. Honestly, until I started working later than usual, I've wanted to go to El Myr every night after work and get one of their grilled shrimp burritos. Not to mention their delicious guacamole and salsa. I kind of like the divey atmosphere of the place, I feel as though I don't need to be or look any certain way to have a decent evening in house. And even though it is indeed a bar, I still feel like I can go in and eat my burrito and have a beer (or some whiskey) and get out in a reasonable amount of time. The waitresses have been simultaneously attentive and delightfully impudent in their serving style, which I like. I like it when waitstaff calls out rude customers when they're being ridiculously needy or demanding. And El Myr delivers. Overall a great place to go for a drink or some good, fresh Mexican food, or both, as I usually make it.

I'd walked by El Myr 1000 times over the years, but not until last week did I stop in. Really enjoyed it, and will be coming back soon. Divey, l5p vibe, which is a good thing. And the best (and biggest) burrito I've had in a while. I got the nacho burrito, plus rice and steak. The steak was extremely good - juicy, flavorful, and plenty of it. The crushed up tortilla chips was an interesting addition to the burrito on paper, but for me, not all that great in the burrito, mostly due to the quality of the chips themselves. Just tasted and looked like store bought Tostitos or something. Got some cheese dip, which was thick, spicy, and good. Margarita was not my favorite, but I've had worse.. Will probably stick to beer next time around.

Small dive bar in Little Five that has some of the best mexican food in Atlanta. The ingredients are pretty amazing for a place that looks like a log cabin in the middle of nowhere. Make sure to start out with the chips and salsa... I LOVE the salsa at this place, it makes my mouth water... gahhhhhh. Follow it up with a cheap pitcher of beer ($6 PBR pitchers), and order something off the decently sized menu: salads, burritos, nachos, quesadillas. And yes, you can smoke in here so be aware of that. Overall the service is fast/friendly, the ingredients are top notch and it doesn't put a hurting on your wallet! GO NOW if you haven't been.

They have the best smoked pork I've ever tried. OMG. The pork nachos and pork burritos are AMAZING. I can't begin to tell you how delicious they are. I just wish the fish tacos were decent there. They suck. I was so disappointed.

Burritos the size of my forearm, best consumed after ingesting copious amounts of beer and/or liquor..may be served with or without a smile and a thank you. So when you find yourself tipping around in the Little 5 area, and need a gigantic ass burrito stop in!

I've been coming here for this past summer while working on some houses down the street. I have to say, it is one of the best finds in ATL since I've been living here 5+ years. The food is downright tasty. The first Item I ever tried was the mushroom, broccoli, cheese burrito. It's not Mexican style or gourmet, but it's one of the best burritos I've ever had handed to me. The bbq pork quesadilla or the regular pork quesadilla easily became a favorite. Seriously, don't be cheap and stuff yourself with fried whatever at little five RuSan's. Take that money, and come here instead for a solid, more healthy, meal. The tortilla they use is definitely better quality than most other places that use thicker ones, leaving you with too much to chew, getting in the way of the ingredients. They're comparable to Chipotle's soft tortilla, which is how I like it. It's an interesting place. Service is good. After a sweaty day of labor and hot sun, an entree + a cold glass of sweet tea or coke makes an ordinary afternoon lunch, a pretty darn good afternoon lunch.

Holy tasty burrito, Batman! I got the Migas, and while it was mostly beans, it was still fantastic. There was a LOT of flavor in there. No blandness to be had in a single bite. My friends got the Brunswick, the Fajito, and the Green Burritos, and we all chowed down amidst the sounds of gnashing teeth and "mmmmmmmmmmm"s. So basically, everyone was really happy with what they ordered - and I can safely say that in this group, that almost never happens. The green salsa was excellent, too. It was the "hot" salsa, and the red was the "mild". Honestly, the green's not that hot. It's not like the green salsa at El Taco Veloz, for example. Decor is frighteningly hideous and run down, but that's ok. Dive bars are the best. But the service was seriously pretty bad, especially for a Monday night. I think we waited at least 5-10 minutes for them to take our drink order, another 5-10 minutes for the drinks to be delivered, and then at least 20 (if not 30) minutes for our food. But the subsequent food (and cold beer) coma kinda made all of us forget about that. I'll go back sometime, and I'll try to time it so that I get there half an hour before I expect to be hungry.

This is what happens when disaffected youth tries to copy Austin, Texas. It's divey and hipstery and uniformly nonconformist, aspires to be quirky and succeeds in loving itself. All without aplomb or any sense of culinary decency. If you want a ton of food just above prison grade and a bunch of angst ridden attitude, this is your spot.

I dunno, does El Myr need another review? El Myr is walking distance from home and cheap and a dive, so we go here sometimes. Sometimes a bunch of us will go for munchies after a party or maybe we'll have some food on the way to a show. It's there, it's cheap, it'll do. Plus I hear they deliver now? Awesome. I particularly like the nachos, huge piles of chips and cheese and goodies. The burritos and tacos are alright, too. Cheap PBR and decent drinks. But the service is really slow, no matter when you're there (I take that back, it's great if you're getting beers at 2am...). But we've only once not managed to find a seat, so...yay and such. Go burritos.

After a bad experience years ago where I couldn't taste the food over the smoke, I've resisted returning to El Myr for years. Recently though, a friend convinced me to try it again, arguing that it really is that good. I let him order for me. We started with the queso - I love the kick from the jalepenos. I had the pork quesadilla with the green salsa - it was an excellent quesadilla - the pork was smoky and moist, the tortilla perfectly crisp, and the salsa verde is among the best I've had - the great tang of salsa verde with the kick I always want. I'm still not sure if I could return in the evenings- where the smoke haze hangs- but I'll definitely be back for a quick and delicious fix for lunch!

Checked out El Myr for the first time this past Sunday (5.22.11) to see how good their Tex-Mex really was and I was pleasantly surprised. There is metered street parking on Euclid and their is a small private lot adjacent to the restaurant for parking. I had the green burrito ($7) and shared the chips, salsa, and cheese dip ($5) and enjoyed every bite. Some sort of mix up occurred and the cook forgot to add chicken ($3), but it ended up being really tasty regardless. It had spinach, broccoli, green chiles, guacamole, and jalapeno's which ended up being just the right amount of spice for my palate. It's definitely a bit more expensive then $ if you eat meat, b/c you have to pay to upgrade, but try something different and try one of their burritos as is and you'll see why I gave this 4 stars. If I'm in the area and feeling Tex-mex, I'll definitely give it another try. Oh and the alcohol prices are quite reasonable for ATL standards. Had a pitcher of house margaritas for $16.

This is undoubtedly one of the friendliest bars in Little Five, and the food isn't bad, either! Everything is reasonably priced, and if you're getting a soda or something, they give you a *big* cup so you don't have to keep walking up to the bar to get more Diet Coke. The jukebox is great, the DJs are fantastic (I seriously never expected to hear someone spin "Beans and Cornbread"), and there's R. Land art throughout. As to drawbacks, the main barroom is exceedingly small, the place is usually packed, and it's difficult to get to the ladies' room. I have been here about five thousand million times, but one of my fondest memories of El Myr is Christmas Eve 2009. I had made a bunch of doughnuts and was looking to share my surplus with the neighborhood homeless. Most of them had found somewhere else to go that particular evening, so I kept trekking down Euclid until, to my great delight, I found El Myr open. Once inside, I had a wonderful evening of conversation, doodling, and doughnut-sharing. At one point, I looked above the bar and saw a number of 3-D sculpted doughnuts. Awesome.

After our show at the Variety theatre, I stopped by this place simply because it was next door and still serving food at one in the morning. I ordered a Burrito with broccoli, rice, beans, and cheese, but it was too big for my mood. I opened it up and used a fork so as to avoid eating that giant whole wheat tortilla; which I'm sure was very tasty. I can't tell you how surprised I was to find such a delicious burrito! (though I guess I just did). But seriously, this thing tasted sooooo good and I had to give the chef my compliments. I REALLY value a place that makes top-notch food super late at night DESPITE the fact that most people eating it are too drunk or high to appreciate it. RESPECT!!!! Hats off to you El Myr.... ~Dave "Herremannen" Heilman

The food is good. The service however, surpasses horrific. I understand a restaurant being busy and waiters being spread too thin and paid too little, but there's no excuse for being ignored, dismissed, practically yelled at, and overall disrespected. I came to this establishment where I am spending my hard earned money to only be treated like shit. To add insult to injury, the management was cold and unapologetic. Compliments to the chef but I'll never eat here again. Elmyr, please get it together. Hire friendlier staff and maybe people will tip appropriately and hopefully no one will notice your ungodly wait times.

We went to check this joint out when we were in a pinch for lunch in little 5 points. First things first the burritos are HUGE here, they also have some very good homemade salsa. When you see the luchador painting on the door you know you are at the right place. Ill be back soon for sure, its the best burrito I have had in Atlanta so far.

If you are looking for quick good food or cheap drinks come here! Its really fast and the food is delicious! I always get the chicken quesadilla and house margaritas. Quesadillas are always so perfectly cheesy. I tried the broccoli and cheese burrito(vegan option) two days ago and it has become a new favorite. I'm no vegan but I do appreciate good food! It's open really late and pitchers of beer are pretty cheap too! Only bad thing is, if its the weekend, especially at night. There is usually not enough seating. Its better to go during the day or on weekday.

Elmyr is one of those places that you start to like after a few times of going there. At first, I was kind of disappointed in the cramped atmosphere and not *out of this world* food (although it was not bad...). After giving their menu a few more tries, I have found several things I really like and would even recommend, such as the more daring/exotic sounding burritos. That being said, it is a little bit of a bummer that chips and salsa aren't free. This is made up for by the fact that portions are rather large, but still... Another thing, although I don't mind cigarette smoke, the place is so small that I imagine it can be very unpleasant for those who do mind the smoke. Parking is free behind the restaurant, but it does seem like a rather small lot and there have been times when it was full. The service, however, is really awful... Maybe it's supposed to be part of the whole punk grunge vibe or whatever, but the service is terribly slow. All in all, it's not great but also isn't bad. It's definitely one of those places that got hyped up by the crowd who frequents it, but that doesn't mean it's not good.

El Meh. That's what I wanted to call El Myr while I was there. But now that it's the morning after and my boyfriend and I are suffering from stomach pains and other gastrointestinal unpleasantness, I'm feeling a lot less kind about my experience. I don't know how they prepare their burritos and tacos at El Myr (and based on the way my stomach feels today, I may not want to know), but I do know that it took over 45 minutes for our party of four to get three burritos and a taco on a Monday night. I also know that our server was mostly indifferent and, based on his behavior, thoroughly stoned. I had the rice and beans burrito, which was mediocre at best. I've had far better burritos at Moe's or Willy's. My beau liked the BBQ chicken burrito that he ordered, but I'm guessing that he likes it a lot less now that he's gone home sick from work after eating it. The one food item that I really loved at El Myr was their guacamole; it was slightly spicy and the perfect consistency. Too bad I won't ever return to El Myr to enjoy it again.

I've heard good things about the food here so I finally decided to give it a try. I ordered the green burrito with bbq chicken, it was one of the best burritos I've had in Atlanta. The service - not terrible, not outstanding. The servers seem a little nonchalant but not overly so. The atmosphere I can do without. The smoke, the very loud music and the music selection were not pleasing. I would go back for take-out only. I really wish they would refine their space to make it a non-smoking atmosphere.

All I can say....home away from home. Jeff is AMAZING in the kitchen and has those dudes trained well! The mixed drinks are ALWAYS great. Danielle has done a great job coming up with new healthy fresh juice drinks. D's beach house is a perfect summer drink! Really though the food is always above par, the drinks regardless of beer or shots or mixed drinks are always reasonable priced. The staff is amazing and as long as you're not a jerk they're awesome. Elmyr is truly my "Cheers". If I'm having a good day, bad day, celebratory day, this is the place to go!!! Take a gander at the new painting above the jukebox.....my dude is lookin good next to the original Elmyr :)

I ordered the skillet burrito--it was really affordable, very, very tasty, and large enough to last two meals. The food was flavorful, and there was plenty of it. Paired with a Corona (and my husband's RC Cola and Taco) we enjoyed a really excellent lunch for less than $20--and had leftovers to bring home, to boot. Honestly, though, my favorite thing about El Myr is that it's right in my neighborhood, and it's not a chain. The interior is unique to the place, which makes it somewhere you want to return, and share with friends. Hooray for yummy food and local businesses!

I am always a fan of a mexican place, but this place was more than that. We sat at the bar, and enjoyed burritos, beers, and friendly staff. I got a tofu burrito (amazing). This impressed me very much because a lot of places don't offer an alternative to meat. I can't wait to go back next time I'm in ATL!

El Myr is always worth checking out if you are in the L5P area of town. Just a note, this ain't no Mexican place. This is what's left of Atlanta's burrito craze from the 90's. For those that remember Tortilla's, this is where alot of those guys went after it closed. What you can expect is fresh ingredients and huge portions. For the food, of course the burritos are the jam, but quesadillas and tacos are good as well. Sweet tea is also really good here, it's local artist R. Land's favorite spot for some tea. As for the atmosphere, it's your typical L5P vibe, but cooler. Wait staff here is very seasoned and don't really put up with much crap. They've seen it all and you're not likely to impress them by doing anything strange. This place is lined with local art, much of it by R. Land. The bathrooms are usually good for a laugh, but get painted over on a regular basis. They have a DJ spinning on Friday and Saturday nights usually. When I lived and worked in the area, it was one of my favorite hangouts!! Check them out and support this local gem.

Favorite place in Atlanta. I usually go for the potato, corn and olive burrito. My husband cant resist the guacamole. When I was living in NYC, my husband and I would talk about how much we wished we could eat at El Myr. Now that we are back in Atlanta, we always take our friends from out of town here. My best friend in Korea still talks about the Nachos and how she misses them! I've attended work Christmas parties there and my husband had his stag night there, its like the clubhouse for Turbojugend, what more can I say. Everytime I walk my dog past there a buddy sticks their head out to say hello, always know someone is gonna be at El Myr.

Great place at lunch and a lot less smoky than in evening. And people in their thirties are whining about being too old for the place? Move to the 'burbs. Who cares? I'm middle-aged, middle class, middle boring and let it be about the food which is excellent. Besides the young group are amusing to watch as rice slides out of their lip piercings.

This L5P joint is the place for afternoon pitchers and chilling out. As far as the food goes, there is only one option... Fish Tacos - 8/10 - the best in the city. The first time I ordered them, I asked for 2 and the guy looked at me like I was insane. That is because it is 2 overlapped flour tortillas making for a super-sized taco filled with goodness. A tangy tarter sauce and quality fish rounds it out. Add a side of guac and get the verde sauce to make it perfect. BTW - 8/10 - Very good food. This is the type of food that later in the day you will think "ya know, that was really really good"

I despise everything about this place. I have never in my life left under 18% tip which I reserve only for the worst server in the world...until I went to El Myr that is. The woman took so long to bring me the check that I got up and started looking for her. When I didn't find her and no one seemed to know or care to tell me where she was I grabbed a menue and calculated how much my meal cost and left that. Again this is not something I make a habit of...it's just an indication of how terrible the service is. Even if the service wasn't terrible I would rather eat a Moes. I don't like the food, I don't like the venue, I don't like the drinks, and I DEFINITELY DON'T LIKE THE SERVERS.

Look, there are only two things you are intended to do at El Myr. Drink, and eat something with smoked pork in it. If someone asked me what one thing to eat in Atlanta (and though I do think the Varsity is the cultural pick) the smoked pork quesadilla wins on taste. Its incredible. I drag all my friends here, kicking and screaming, and now everyone begs for it. The chips are bad, the queso is cold, but nothing could be less important. This is probably slightly off topic, but El Myr is exactly what its name implies: a forgery. It's not Mexican, "el myr" is not a word in Spanish at all. Elmyr was the name of a hungarian art forger (there's a movie, look it up) and El Myr is not a Mexican restaurant. It's beautiful for what it is, not for what it looks like.

BAM! writing that last review prompted me to return to El Myr after too long a hiatus, which has in turn prompted this review update. The Brunswick burrito is AWESOME, and my service was great this time. Way to go, El Myr! If I could, I'd give them a 6th star for allowing visible tattoos on their staff. I'm realizing more and more that I've started to frequent places where I know I won't be gawked at. love it.

I'm a big fan. I don't like to dine by myself, but this is one place where I don't feel too uncomfortable about doing so. The recession special is $5, and includes a burrito (usually meatless, still delicious), and a PBR (or coke). It's more food than the $5 footlong at subway, and they throw in a beer. I usually make it once a week. They also don't fill there burritos with obscene amounts of rice. Never had anything that wasn't satisfying.

I mad heart this place. I'm going to pull the California card again (rare for me, I know) but I know my burritos. And while these aren't going to win any contests against burritos in the Mission, the flavor is pretty freakin' close sometimes, and great regardless. They're way more flavorful than Chipotle (no comparison, really, except for the resemblance to footballs, size- and shape-wise.) You can't go wrong with the plain ol' bean and cheese, especially for $4.50, but their rando vegetarian concoctions and meats are yummy, too. And tonight I had the Pad Thai burrito with tofu for the first time and HOLY YUM, was it good - I'll definitely be getting it again. On a more mellow night these cheap prices can make for two meals, but even if you finish the whole thing (WHICH IS TOTALLY FINE AND NORMAL!), the price can't be beat. And let me reiterate - they're pretty effin' tasty. The vibe is divey and punky, but I like that - a lot. It reminds me of one of my old favorite haunts in Seattle, Bimbo's Bitchin' Burrito Kitchen. The jukebox is usually bumpin' something rad and even if PBR is too hipster for you, no one can hate on a $6.00 pitcher. They have nicer beers, too, as well as mixed drinks, even including classic margaritas with better-than-I-can-ever-afford tequila. It IS a smoking bar, which is why I can't give the fifth star. Which is totally hypocritical of me because I indulge in the cancer sticks now and again and love places that allow smoking when I'm in the mood, but sometimes I just don't want the tobacco all up in my burrito and I like to pretend that I plan on quitting sometime soon. To be fair, though, there haven't been that many times when I've been in here and been overwhelmed by the smoke. Ironically, it's only been on the semi-outdoorish screened in patio that I've ever felt kind of smoked out. Anyway, El Myr actually has one of the most satisfying burritos in town for this San Francisco girl, a fun vibe - and $20 for two big burritos and a pitcher? My grad school budget thanks you very much!

The good... Food. The annoying!!! Piss poor interior space design. Hey, I love sitting "right-next-to" some hipster/ rock-a-billy fool booting in the bathroom while eating my burrito"! Stupid bar design! Who said, "hey" lets put a five foot long bar in a venue that serves one of the most drunken neighborhoods in the south east ? Crowd is fine but... Again, the trendy PBR swillers... Somehow these people do not realize they have been corralled into some keen ass stealthy mass marketing. Honestly, who drinks this swill for the taste? If you drink trendy beer because it is"cheap" perhaps you have other problems that need to be addressed first? Or. Just admit youre trendy, and enjoy your liver while you still have something that resembles one.....

Not really sure what to make of this place. The food is ...alright, the service is fairly weak and the restaurant looks well.....run down. If the roughneck look is what they wanted to achieve, well kudos. Let me flip this around and give them big ups for having some seriously stellar margaritas. Our server was quick with the drinks, wish the cooks were as quick with the food orders. It didn't seem especially crowded when we went. I had the steak burrito, although they really did skimp on the steak part. They sure did double up on the beans though. Weak. I'm keeping an open mind on this place and will re-view at some later point.

Yay for a new Mexican Joint! I dug the queso even though it was a little on the cold side so we lost it pretty quickly. Ordered the Guac and got a greenish more so brown bowl of something. Didn't even tried it... thanks, but no thanks, I'll stick with my chips and cheese. Other tables were getting it and I have no idea why but they pigging out on it not questioning the lack of green in their avocados. Tried the fajitas Buritto. Pretty good. Next time though... oh geeze was my dates Tilapia taco just out of this world good. Price: cheap. You get 3 gallons of coke on the largest glass ever and the portions are good for the money. Only complaint was smoke. We sat out on what seemed like an enclosed patio and I couldn't wait to escape. Every table was smoking and it was almost unbearable. It seems like it would be a great preshow throw down place before going to The Variety. Try it out...

I've now been back to El Myr several times and am still in love with the food. To date either I or my companions have had the fish tacos, shrimp tacos, brisket burrito, barbecued chicken burrito and Brunswick burrito. They were all great with my favorites been the brisket, barbecued chicken and Brunswick burritos. I get all my burritos with the green sauce inside which makes them more juicy and helps meld all the flavors together. If you like tomatillo sauces and can stand a little heat, I strongly recommend it. Its obvious that the owner and the chef really care about what they do and are creative and consistent.

It was late on a Wednesday night, and my girlfriend suggested we go to this place. I found it decent, and I compare to a late night Moe's. I ended up getting a shrimp burrito, and she got some nachos. The place has decorative graffiti all over it and in the bathrooms. We received good service that night, and we lived happily ever after.

CHIPS AND SALSA BAD. SMOKED PORK AND GRILLED TILAPIA BURRITOS ES MUY EXCELLENTE. MARGARITAS ES MUUUUUUUUUuUUUY BUENO as evidenced by my all caps as I draft this yelp review. Service was slow at first but good; food came out super quick and way way delicioso. This is a bar, so it's 18+. Would haven given five stars but salsa was disappointing you get choice of two, mild or hot. We got mild and later tried hot, mild = C-, tastes like ketchup. Hot salsa = B+, because it's way hot and underseasoned. Mix the two and you're golden. This place is HIGHLY recommended.

Gritty. Cheap. And bunch of other words we like to use to describe sex, bars, loose women, unsavory men, art, and underground scenes. Not necessarily adjectives I want associated with food and its handling. If I happen to be hungry within 100 feet of El Myr's doors, I'll eat there. The food is decent. It satisfies your most base desire for burrito consumption. You get on with your life without too much thought about El Myr ever again. Edible but not remarkable.

Back in the early 90s, I would come to Atlanta to hang out with my cousin, go see bands which wouldn't come to NC, and eat burritos @ Frijoleros, specifically the Bean Man's Choice. I moved to Atlanta. They closed. Damn it. Anyway, Tortillas was my 2nd favorite burrito joint. They closed. Damn it. Raging Burrito opened a place near Ansley. They closed. Damn it. (Thankfully, they're still open in Decatur!) It's probably bad form for me to mention all these other establishments in this review, and leaving the actual review part to last. I'll get on with it. So, next up in my burrito chomping history is El Myr. They're good. They're really good. The burritos are customizable to your liking. That's what I go for. So, that's what I know. However, there's a bonus; they have the best guacamole in town (and I was completely unaware until just a year and a half ago)! But let me repeat... They have the BEST guacamole in town. The place is very laid back. The music can be loud. If you can't take (chance) the music (is loud), order it to go. Now. In conclusion, if it weren't for that whole nostalgia thing, I'd say El Myr topples Frijoleros from the top of my list.

I used to absolutely love El Myr, but the service during my last 2 visits hasn't been very friendly. That said, it's still my favorite South-of-the-border-style place in Atlanta. Best margaritas, best quesadillas; super killer specials; great jukebox. And very affordable as well.

El Myr...what large burritos you have! (that's what she said...chuckle) what can I say, i like this place. Huge burritos, large nachos, big drinks, good times.

This was a place where I used to eat all the time in my mid-twenties, especially after Tortillas (on Ponce) closed down. *sob* I realized last night that it's been like 5-6 years since I actually ate there last (you know, back when I was YOUNG). So my husband and I decided to go there for dinner. And here is what I have to say about the experience. 1. There just aren't enough places where you can listen to ear-bleedingly loud heavy metal while you eat anymore. 2. Their burritos are still teh awesome. So worth it. And their sangria is not bad, either. 3. Sitting inside is like smoking 10 packs of cigarettes. I actually had to get used to breathing normal air again when we left. In summary, I will DEFINITELY eat there again SOON. But I might try to get a seat on the patio next time. *wheeze* NOTE: This is not "Mexican" food. It's sort of that same style as Moe's or Willy's, only GOOD. El Myr makes the only burritos that even compare to the awesomeness that was Tortillas. The only other place I've EVER eaten that even comes close to rivaling them is Raging Burrito.

It's always a bad start to a Mexican meal when you're not presented with complementary chips and salsa. Nonetheless, at El Myr I suck it up and proceed to order my Steak Fajito Burrito. It's humongous, filled with grilled red and green peppers, ground steak, cheese, rice, onions (I always order mushrooms) and I like mine on the honey wheat tortilla. Honestly, it's a bar that just so happens to have good Mexican for pretty cheap. The inside is typical Euclid Ave, with a screened in patio with plastic chairs where you can people watch. The margaritas are basic, but serviceable. This is just an unpretentious spot you can duck into before doing your damage at Cherry Bomb or Moods Music *raising hand guiltily*

The fish burrito is great. Food is cheap. The hours are late and the drinks are strong. The service is absolutely terrible. Incredibly slow and forgetful. Not a go-to spot if I can help it. Not to mention parking is not always easy. If you are drunk and have no time contraints then this is not a bad place to end up.

I'm from Atlanta and man, do I miss this place. Great music, good food, and good service. Of course, Friday and Saturday nights are NOT the times to come here because this place fills up quick, but come here on a Sunday afternoon after a late night out and El Myr does the trick. The bar staff are super friendly and they always have metal blaring from the speakers. What's wrong with a cold beer, a yummy quesadilla, good people, and Slayer? NOTHING.

  • Nicole M.

I LOVE this place because it's cheap and dirty, just like I like my...hmmm... I think the categories might need to be revised so "Dive Bar" comes before "Mexican Restaurant". I'm not really sure why people think this is a "Mexican Restaurant" because it's not! It's a bar that happens to serve Mexican-style food. You won't find any snooty snottersons here, just strong margaritas, good beers, decent AND cheap food and some pretty cool people (except for some douchebag who called my friend a whore but that's a whole different story and i'm sure he never returned after my other friend dove across their table to tell the a*%wad that he was a *&#&^@*(&#$^*# because I haven't seen him since). Please don't go to El Myr expecting a somewhat authentic Mexican restaurant, because you ain't gonna find it. You will find some good queso though. And you will get drunk. At least I'll be tipsy if you aren't.

They pulled the curve down on this one. We went on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't very busy. Drinks were good and delivered promptly. 3 out of the 4 dishes on the table were delicious. The 4th tasted like something from a school cafeteria- it was a steak burrito. Worst excuse for steak any have ever tasted. To their credit, they removed it from the bill. Fair enough. The smoked pork dish was delish, same for the fish tacos & shrimp tacos. Service was painfully slow and a bit on the touchy side. Just plainly tell us why others food is coming out ahead of ours! If I'm in the neighborhood and wanted this kind of food, I'd give them another try.

We dig the dive bar atmosphere, cheap pitchers of PBR, and excellent burritos. Make sure to try the Pad Thai! Elmyr is one of the few remaining cool places in Little Five Points.

salsa = flavorful + kick tilapia taco = blackened tilapia + spicy tangy tartar + fresh veg organic margarita = fresh + limey i love this place. and now that i live so close to it, i love it even more. averaging at about $6-7 for hearty meal, it's quality mexican food. i tried the special recently: blackened tilapia with grilled mango and spicy slaw with corn tortillas. it was DELICIOUS! i wish they added it permanently to the menu. i've also had the late night migas burrito. it's definitely different, but i just couldn't stop eating it. not everyone would love it, but it's totally worth a try. the place is dive-y, dingy and dark. and there's smoke, lots of smoke. but the food is GREAT, the service is friendly, and they don't charge you sales tax if you live in the area! skip the chipotle and support a small local business like el myr. you won't be disappointed.

If I remember nothing else, it's the excellent burritos and the giant serving of guacamole. In the couple of times I've been I've had the veggie and fajita, but they definitely have a ton of interesting ones to choose from; jalapeno wraps, etc. Speaking of fajita, the meat was *very* well seasoned, a surprise in what I thought was going to be just dive-y-kinda mexican spot. They get a plus for always going the slight bit out of the way to split our shared meal for us. Fair selection of beer, no? And at standard L5P surprisingly-cheaper-than-most rates. Not my cup of tea, but from the looks of it had an interesting varietyof margaritas. To include - in true hipster fashion - the low-key secret mix that you have to have the password to order. Can't remember what it is but if I remember correctly it's supposed to taste like grape kool-aid.

Anyone ever been asked to move over a bit so the drunk guy from the table next to you can properly moon his friends? I have, and it happened here, at El Myr. Usually I get some odd looks when I go into El Myr, and that is usually because I am wearing a sundress and don't have visible tattoos. (The four I have are well hidden.) I kind of stick out in this crowd, but don't worry; I can hold my own. You really can't find a better deal than El Myr. The burritos are gigantic, and really cheap (around six dollars). I have tried a couple of them, but I usually order the chicken, with rice inside instead of beans. They are so good, and the perfect food to go with a Hoegaarden. (or RC Cola, whatever you feel like.) Since they are open late, this is the perfect place to go after catching a show at Variety. Fresh from a good music high, the food somehow tastes ever better.

This is one of my favorite dive bars in town. Pretty cheap drinks, good margaritas, and good SF-style burritos. It works best as a neighborhood hangout; it's a good place to go hang out with friends, and you'll probably run into somebody else you know while you're there if you live in the neighborhood. It probably won't blow your face off with how awesome it is, but it's good and cheap and reliable. During peak business hours it can take a minute to get a table for a larger group, but it's usually worth the wait. It's definitely a little dingy and maybe the service could occasionally be described as "surly", but whatever. It's part of the charm, which pretty much means it's protection against people who would be too stuck up to deal with it.

  • Sam S.

Everyone I know has a bad service story about this place, but my experience is if you order right away, you get served right away. Dawdle and they might leave you alone for an hour. The food is good and cheap considering how large it is. Get nachos somewhere else, burritos and tacos are El Myr's zone of terror. Also, the $5 standard margarita is no joke, comes in a pint glass and has more impact than three drinks at some places.

Very cool spots in Atlanta are hard to find. This one saved the city for me. Maybe I haven't spent enough time here (6 weeks in the last year) but I have yet to find a place I would hang all the time until I was taken here. Very cool art, good drinks, nice service, cool neighborhood. Did I mention the art?

I frequent this place for lunch and a whisk when needed. The burritos and quesadillas are excellent and if their not too busy, you'll have your food in seconds. Always consistent and has alot on the walls to look at. Also a nice spot to enjoy some liquid samples before a show. Its cheap and has a great dungeon and keep feeling to it.

  • Jessica G.

the green burrito is pretty yum--the broccoli is the secret weapon and it packs a major delicious punch. the nacho burrito sounds better than it actually tastes. i suggest the addition of some picked jalapenos. but that's just me. i think service is just fine. but the back porch has a bit of a pee smell...what is up with that? just the back of the room really. it also smells heavily of cleaning supplies. so i say kick up some of the flavor and expel the urine tinge....otherwise, keep doin' it up. i'll be back ;)

If you like good chips & salsa and cheap tallboy cans of PBR, well then welcome home. I drink here all summer! Plus, its smoke friendly, but they must have some type of weird air circulation that makes it way tolerable for non-smokers.

  • Tanya F.

El Myr food is consistently good. Any variety of the quesadillas is a safely delicious choice; they'll put anything you want in 'em and the cheese is great. My favorite of the menu options is the spinach and jalapeno quesadilla. I kind of feel like I'm counteracting the artery clogging cheese with the nutrient packed spinach--they definitely don't skimp on the fillings. My other favorite is the fish taco--I don't know what they do with that tilapia, but it's always perfectly tender and flavorful. Now the atmosphere is pretty dark and I could see it being uncomfortable the first couple of visits for a newbie, but the servers are pretty cool. After a little while of frequenting this place once a month, they started remembering my typical order down to the "cranberry juice with no ice." So try not to judge the book by its cover, and I'm pretty sure you'll leave satisfied.

Now that we're in walking/biking distance, the mister and I finally decided to check out El Myr. I didn't think the food would be good. But, guess what folks? I was wrong! They have lots of veggie options, and I loved my big, yummy taco with broccoli, beans, cheese, and salsa. They don't have a huge beer selection, but they do have cheap beer. And sometimes you just want a Corona or a big pitcher of PBR. And a taco. Or burrito. Bonus: Large windows good for crazy L5P people-watching!

One of the places in Atlanta that rides on coolness without too much quality underneath. And yeah it's cool, it's an homage to an art forger and everyone has tattoos. But the service is mediocre and slow. I ate in there once and it was so cold that my burrito was inedible in like 2 minutes. Green burrito is pretty good if you can get it on a good day at a good time.

El Myr is El Myr, and if this place were a guy, I'd be head over heels! It's always consistent and never has you wondering why the hell you liked it in the 1st place. I wouldn't necessarily call the staff "friendly", yet I can appreciate their no B.S. service because it doesn't come off like an "attitude problem" (unless you initiate it). And with a great jukebox to boot, it's hard not to be drawn to its charm- nothing complicated, easy to like, and not trying to be cool is what makes El Myr so cool. Was there on Sunday for an impromptu visit with some friends and had a great time (as always). I typically order the chicken soft taco, which is super huge, cheap, and delicious (again, consistent). Not a fan of the chips, but the guacamole is some of the best in town. Seemed busier than normal for an early Sunday crowd, which began to quickly fill the bar (service got slower, which is typical). Although it's always tempting to order a Margarita because they're super good, I've resisted for almost a year now (only because I'm hammered by the 2nd round). Best times are when the DJs come in Friday and Saturday nights- despite there being no dance floor, it's amazing what you can pull-off in a tight space when there's good music spinnin.

  • Deanna J.

I like that you can get a carbohydrate explosion here. Not what they actually call it on the menu, but that's pretty much what the "bean, potato, corn, black olives" burrito would equate to - not your everyday burrito. You can also get the veggied out 'green burrito,' and the variation on the standard margarita, the 'peachrita.' Variations keep things entertaining. And really, El Myr is a variation of either a dive bar that serves Mexican or a Mexican restaurant dressed up as a dive bar. One thing that remains consistent is this place's extreme popularity - both times I've been here, it's a constant battle to find a seat . . . and you must stand - hover, really - around for a bit to snatch the next available vacated chair. Note also that when they say 'no separate checks' they mean it around here - so large groups = bring cash. El Myr is also in an ideal spot to grab a bite before or after a show at the Variety. Or 7 Stages. Or the Horizon.

  • Molly C.

Mmm...I do enjoy El Myr. I've spent many nights there drinking their super strong sangrias and eating a tasty burrito. And I love coming when they've got their DJ fired up. Don't expect to get the friendliest service in town. They aren't rude but they're not going to kiss your ass, either. And don't worry if you feel you're a tattoo shy to eat there; they've seen all kinds and you won't be the first.

My wife and I needed a place to eat before a play at Horizon Theater and our go to Mexican joint was closed for renovation. We decided on Elmyr and were not disappointed. Our first step into the place was a little underwhelming because of the strong stench of smoke but as we walked further from the bar the smoke cloud dissipated and it was out of mind shortly thereafter. The food was excellent and service was also great. I had the special of two small burritos with rice & beans. The green salsa was my favorite part. We will definitely return if we are in the area. One star taken off was for the abundance of smokers but everything else was awesome.

This place is a great find in Lil 5. I am allergic to smoke and still go there for the barbque chicken quesadilla and red stripe beer. GReat!!! I could sit there if it was not sooo smoky and just chill out and enjoy my meal but the smoke can become bothersome. Anywho, great cheap spot! and yes the service can be crappy but the food makes up for the service. I would be curious about the health rating, but oh well. hahahah

I love this place! It's a total hole in the wall, but service is friendly, chicken quesadilla's are yummy and the margarita's are excellent. Sometimes the service was slow, like on Friday or Saturday nights when it gets pretty busy, but it never bothered me too much.

Yum, yum, yum! I went to El Myr last night before a show at Variety. Great food and better prices. The guac was homemade and excellent - don't miss it if you're a fan. Some of the best I've had out to eat lately. Creamy and chunky and delicious. I had the chicken quesadilla, which despite being a little unevenly distributed, was very good, and a good size - I was pretty stuffed. Top it with the green, spicy salsa and it's a real winner. Also - I was feeling tipsy off of just 1 house margarita. They don't cheap out on these! The whole meal for 2, including a margarita, a beer, and the salsa/guac appetizer, rang in at under $30 - a steal!

Hole-in-the-wall defined. Cheap drinks and great, fresh pseudo-Mexicali food. If you ever find yourself in L5P thirsty and nearly-broke, ask for 'The Grizz', a three-dollar, seven-oz. Corona topped off with delightfully low-grade tequila. Four or five of these will give you permanent ringing in the ears. A fantastic bargain. The crowd is almost always tattooed, bleary-eyed, black-shirted and hilariously scenesterish, but easily ignored. The staff is also surprisingly attentive and quick for being so cramped and so few.

    (4)
  • Ben H.

This place has never impressed me, but it's a solid option for dining in L5P. The food is generally decent, but nothing special. Service can be occasionally slow and apathetic at times. I'm not sure it's worth going out of the way for, but it is a good choice if you are in L5P. 3

I have only been here once, but my first impression was instant favorite. PBR and really good food! Its punk rock bar meets mexican deliciousness! Some of the inside seating is rather claustrophobic but the out back screened in porch was perfect! I am a fan!

Open late and has good, inexpensive food in large portions. Not the best Mexican food I've ever eaten, but there's a lot to recommend the place. It's got good atmosphere and friendly staff. A great place to grab a bite after getting out of a show at the Variety.

  • Joseph D.

I was in the mood for mexican today so I decided I'd check this place out. Did I go to the same place you guys are talking about? I know it's L5P and all but the obligatory "I could care less" 'tude is cute for only a couple of minutes. I wasn't expecting to be fawned over but hell, at least try to make me feel like I'm not too much of a cramp upon your all-important style. It's not that the place was that busy. The food wasn't all that impressive to be honest, and I may be spoiled but, where was the complimentary chips and salsa? I may give it another chance but I'd go with Moe's before this place if that tells you anything.

One of my favorite places to grab a quick, healthy and hearty dinner in Atlanta. Vegetarian friendly. I love the nacho burrito (okay, maybe not so healthy), and the side of potatoes (definitely not healthy, but cheap and yummy). I always end up taking leftovers home, because the burritos are HUGE! They've also got pretty decent prices on beer.

  • Jim W.

This is a bit of a dive but with a cool location, good food, good drinks, good service, cool wall art and decent prices. El Myr is on the inside as you would expect from the outside... a dive bar. However, I was surprised to find the food and drinks were pretty good especially considering the prices. I had a chicken quesadilla (~$6) and house margaritas (~$5). The size of the meal servings and drinks were good. I also never waited on service. On the downside are the cheap plastic lawn chairs that probably would not suffice if I had too many margaritas. Also, it seems that it can get smokey (which can be mitigated by sitting on the windowed patio). But really, what do you expect from a dive bar. Speaking of which, I do have to admit, rating El Myr was a bit tricky... do I rate it a little lower as a regular bar or does considering it a "dive bar" give it a reprieve... no, no, no... to consider it as such is to disrespect dive bars... it is what it is... a pretty good dive bar.

What can I say... el myr hits the spot every time. First, pull into the large and ample bike rack on the west side of the building and lock up, cause if you're not local, you'll stick out. If not, it's okay, you can redeem yourself by ordering a PBR... or twelve ;) Seriously, they have the BEST nachos in town. I like steak and black bean (or just black bean if im feeling veggie that night). Cheese dip is debatable, and the guac is sometimes questionable imho, but I love the salsa and I go nuts over the hot green stuff.

Record breaking heat on a Friday night in June. Went in to El Myr and it feels just like it did outside.. hot as hell. Ordered a cool drink, which was good, but it def didn't cool me down. The shrimp tacos I had were super good, fresh tasting and perfect for the hot weather outside and in. The chips suck though, be forewarned. Food is cheap, air conditioning is apparently not. Definitely check out their cheap eats but try and go during the fall.

I went past this place hundreds of times when I would go record shopping down in L5P. I always thought it was part of the garage or co-op store that you could get fake ids for $25. My buddy moved over to Sinclair Ave. and one night we decided to walk up Euclid to find some grub and we noticed El Myr was actually a restaurant. El Myr was the first spot I got a big fat burrito that has gotten popular at chains like Chipotle or Moe's. The difference is El Myr is fresher in my opinion and much more tasty. We hammered down many a pitcher of Tarantula Azul Margarita's. Mashed down chips, salsa and burritos, sitting right on that dumpy patio way before they finished it off and made it a bit nicer. I am heading back to ATL in a few weeks and El Myr here I come.

I had a really really good burrito my first time hear. I can't wait to go back and try some other things on the menu. The food is pretty good. Our waitress kind of forgot about us, but that's fine because I didn't really have high expectations for the place or the service so my expectations were met. Sit on the heated porch so hat you can people watch in L5P. I was in a group of about 8-10 and they accommodated us nicely. We heard that they don't split checks, so we made sure to bring cash.

El Myr is deeply divisive among my friends. Some hate the unhurried service and patently inauthentic menu, while others appreciate its super inexpensive, tasty food (what's up, green burrito) and drinks (hey, peach margarita) and excellent jukebox. I fall into the latter camp for sure.

SportCoat'nPointyShoeShinyShirt syndrome.. If you're suffering from exposure to this common ensemble the cure awaits you at Elmyr! The food is cheap, the nachos are huge and the PBR is always cold. People watching at it's finest, intoxicated socialization and loud Punk-Rock, what more do you need? Here's the skinny: If you are a local you know what to expect, if you're a visitor you might just become a local! See ya there tonight!

It was a sad summer in 2003 when Ponce's venerable Tortillas closed. Taped up in the front window, though -- what was that? A sign? A glimmer of hope? Printed horizontally across about five sheets of white paper "DON'T GO TO MOE'S -- GO TO EL MYR, 1071 EUCLID." Of course we wouldn't go to Moe's. So we went to El Myr. And I am oh-so-happy about it. Service wavers between charming, surly, hilarious and absent. There is beer. There is a quite strong jukebox. There is an ongoing parade of people that want you to look at them. And seriously, the food is awesome. Fresh stuff, veggie options, lotsa cheese, spicy salsa. Go here. Just check the Variety calendar to prepare yourself (depending on the band and crowd) for a full bar till showtime.

My one complaint with most Mexican Restaurants is how they're never open late. Sometimes you just get a real hankering for a taco and a margarita around midnight and what are you going to do? Luckily, there's El Myr. They serve late, pour drinks late, and generally do a better job of being a place you can hang out than any other cross-the-border venue. Their food is a bit above average too, for very average prices. Though they don't have frozen margaritas (which is my preferred method), the on-the-rocks style are nice and strong. Since the place is pretty small, it can get full quick, particular on weekend evenings. Come early or expect a wait--they definitely have less space than their demand requires. Though its not uncomfortable here, they don't crowd 'em in too hard. El Myr is the perfect mix for hanging out with a large crowd, or just one on one.

I love ElMry for everything that it is. It's so perfect and genuine. I go here at least once a week, because if I wait longer than that, I go into withdrawal. Sometimes the service is not that great, or with a little bit of attitude, but it is what is, take it or leave it. I like everything about it, especially the donuts, the 12th that was pointed out by a late friend of mine. Memories like that last a lifetime, and that is exactly what ElMyr is about. It's real, harsh, and an honest dose of life. And the tofu taco's freakin ROCK.

Notoriously terrible service, but the best burrito joint in the ATL by far. Just be patient and have a beer or 2 while you wait for your food.

Perfect example of a dive (hard to define, but you know it when you see it). Well-above-average beer selection. And, of course, I knew fish tacos were trendy, but I didn't realize they were an art form known only to this place. Hands down the best one I've had. REVISION: It lost two stars for my last visit. The atmosphere of the place drifted somewhere between boorish and snuff-film roadhouse. Went in for a late New Year's lunch, and it was practically impossible to carry on a polite conversation for all of the screaming, vulgarity and general loudness around us. I guess at the end of the day it's a L5P bar and I'm getting what I pay for, but it sullied my opinion a little and made me think twice about a place to spend my sober time. The fish tacos still rock, though.

This is what I'm talking about. Sure, the place is a bit quirky. Been that way for years. That's brilliant. It's got amazing food and healthful (including plenty of vegetarian) options at good prices. You can spend money here, but sure you don't HAVE to. Eat, drink and be merry...on a budget. The staff are alright. They act a lil busy but they are! They will keep you entertained. The smoke inside is a bit of a problem sometimes for non-smokers, but other than that...yum.

We were looking for a place to eat before seeing a show at Horizon Theatre and came across El Myr, what a cool little find. The atmosphere was eclectic, the service was fast, the food was plentiful and cheap...what could be better? We ordered chips and salsa and I had the chicken quesadilla and my friend had the breakfast burrito. The chips were on the thick side but they did have a fresh crunch to them. My quesadilla was humongous as was the burrito. I'll be returning the next time I'm at the Horizon.

The food is always great, but sometimes it can take a long long time to eat a meal there. Which usually isn't a problem since I go into a visit to El Myr expecting to knock back quite a few beers to go with some killer quesadillas and burritos. My first visit to El Myr should have been my last. It was actually a miserable date and we sat in the very back corner of the restaurant, right in front of a dark open door that looked like the crawl space of a building inside. It was scary, and so was the date. A year or so later, I was back for a snack before a concert at Variety Playhouse. The food was great, and the atmosphere didn't seem to matter as much when there wasn't the dating aspect involved. It was just a great spot to chill before heading to a show. You'll see some interesting customers and staff there, and it's a great representation of what Little Five Points is all about.

Good, cheap food. Cheap drinks (kick ass sangria). Full on metal jukebox. It's the L5P punk rock/metal bar. Just a good time. That is why you go to El Myr. That is what makes this place amazing. Never had a bad experience. If it's super crowded, and it often is, the service will slow down. Find me a place in Atlanta where this doesn't happen and I'll show you my pet unicorn. And if you want an indie hipster bar, then go to East Atlanta, an area full of other fine establishments.

  • Sekou T.

I hear folks saying good things about the burritos, but in my opinion the chicken quesadillas are one of the true highlights of the El Myr menu. After the first time I ordered them I've never looked back, and the service wait-time never really bothered me because I somehow always end up going with people who are good for conversation.

Wow.... I think I'm in love. This is the epitome of hole in the wall, best kept secret mexi//divebar. El Myr "rhymes with beer" is great, their food was fast and delicious. The price point was dead on, and served up with your choice of RC cola or tall boy of PBR? Wow, I can't wait to go back. We walked in a little unsure of where to sit, since it was our first time at this great place, but we soon figured it out, on your left is a little seating area, and walkway to a decent sized patio. This place is definitely on my list of places to hit up before our next show at the variety playhouse. Crazy good.

  • Lara S.

The food is great, but service is seriously a joke. I mean, my friends and I joke about how you can only to go to El Myr if you have two to three hours for a meal. So, yes, if you have the luxury of two to three hours, the food may be worth it. Decor is great. Love R. Land, and the support of local art.

    (3)
  • Coley W.

El Myr isn't much, but if you're in the mood for a cold PBR tallboy and a kickass burrito, this is the place to go. It's especially nice in the spring and summer, when you can sit on the semi-enclosed porch. Try the green burrito, or the burrito with potatoes, corn and black olives. At night on the weekends, El Myr's smoky indie-rock bar comes alive.

I heard the "Legend of the fish taco" at some place called Elmira's in little five points. I have been looking for it for months. Finally today, I was passing by, saw some of my buddies bikes (only dudes that ride old Triumph Bonneville's, Nor tons and 1950's Harley's in Atlanta). Went in and they told me it was El Myr's. Wow .Found it. Fish taco was a religious experience. Amazing. best in Atlanta.

We ate at El Myr tonight before the Gnarls Barkley show at Variety Playhouse. Food was 'OK' but nothing to write home about. The waiter was nice enough, but didn't go out of his way to please us. I expected chips and salsa since this is a Mexican restaurant, but we never got any. Not sure if you have to ask for them, or if they are an item they charge for, but I have never been to a Mexican restaurant where you didn't get them as a free appetizer. I got the Chicken Soft Taco and it was just enough food for me, not too big, not too small. Prices are reasonable. Probably won't make a special trip to Little 5 Points for this restaurant.

From the outside this place looks like a seedy little place, and some of the people who were having drinks there were questionable looking.. so yeah not a yuppie spot.. it's definitely a little 5 points, grudge, edgy, dark looking place.. but then when you enter, it's like any old bar / restaurant. I actually like this place!! For a Friday night, this place was able to seat like 12 hungry and thirsty yelps. It also has cool windows that can open, so when people indoor smoke, little old me can breath! Super!! I ordered the fish talapia taco and oh boy it was delicious! I bought the sangria ,which was eh, nothing to write home about.. but the Texas margarita.. well let's just say they hooked it up w/ the tequila... just how I like it.. yummy... What a great way to end the night, with yummy Mexican food and great drinks.. and of course a group of awesome jovial yelpers! Waiter service was pretty good, and food came our relatively fast..I would definitely come back here for foods and drinks ..Everthing was delicious!

one of the best places to go for a long afternoon over pitchers of margaritas with friends. the absolute worst place to go if you are in a hurry. delicious guacamole. chips and salsa are lacking. they both suffer from the same flaw--too thick. the burritos and tacos are a tasty treat! the margaritas and sangria are all yum and effective.

  • Claire D.

best thing about El Myr? you order a quesedilla, they bring you a burrito...order a burrito, they bring you a quesedilla. It's ok though because turns out the server knew what you wanted even when you didn't. I miss gettin' my mexican food fix on before a show at variety. oh, and I once showed up at el myr completely covered in silver body paint and a purple wig and no one even batted an eye. I love you, el myr!

  • Brendan S.

Fend for yourself seating in a dive bar atmosphere. Had steak tacos, they were great. Margaritas were decently priced and strong. Guac was pretty dang good. I would recommend avoiding off-peak, also be warned that its next to variety playhouse and normally if there is a busy show, then this place will be busy as well. If you are tired of Taqueria Del Sol, give El Myr a try, same cost and no line out the door.

  • Jeremiah B.

I'm a local living about one min. from this place and I avoid it if at all possible. The food is ok, but the service is horrible! It's extrmely slow and the servers are rude. The only reason people go here is so they can feel cool eating at a bar in little five points.

Not your average taco/ mexican restaurant. I would probably say we visit this place once every 2 weeks. It's a definite stop if we're hanging out in little 5. I usually order the Chicken taco and my fiance will get the fish taco. I have yet to try the fish but he swears by it. Besides the chicken taco, which is very very tasty, I have had the chicken nachos and the vegatarian Quesadillas or what they call the Haze-adilla stuffed with mushrooms, onions, peppers and some other things that just make this a veggie lovers dream quesadilla. I was really surprised at how tasty it really was. Also, every thing is pretty filling. I know the tacos are rolled with not one but two soft tortillas which double it's size and allow for them to stuff it with fresh lettuce, onions, and sometimes bacon as well as other items. The nachos are huge. I could only nibble on them I was so intimidated by the size. lol I've never been disappointed by the food, the price of the food (ranges from $5.95-$7 or $8) and also the sweet sweet sangrias. lol If you're in the mood for beer too and low on cash they've got PBR pitchers for $5. The place can get pretty smokey, but we usually don't go that late. It's more of a lunch and shop kinda place for us. They have a covered patio though which is great for people watching. Here's my only problem with this place. It's a seat yourself kinda deal. No biggie. The place is small and one of the staff is bound to say something to us eventually right? Which they do, but sometimes it takes a little time and only just last week was the first time i've seen one of the waiters smile. They always look unhappy and emotionless. It's kinda sad actually. I would totally keep going though because the tacos and quesadillas and nachos and full bar make up for it. lol Just don't expect your waiter or waitress to look as though they are happy to see you. Don't take it personal though. They're always like that. I think that's how you know they like you. :oD

El Myr is the typical hole in the wall Little 5 joint. It's surprising good and friendly. It's a little cramped, but it's worth it. The food is not strictly Mexican, but it's good and different in a nice way. If you don't live in Little 5 or Inman Park you probably haven't heard of this place. It's a nice place to get a beer and have a fish taco.

  • Melonie T.

Don't come here expecting Moe's, Willy's or any other chain burrito joint. In fact, despite the yummy burritos, I would not classify this as a burrito place. It is more like a dive bar with delicious and cheap food. My burrito was overloaded with potato, corn and black olives for a price I couldn't believe. The drinks are under-priced as well. If you want some cheap eats and don't mind a dark and dingy atmosphere then El Myr is your place!

  • Camille M.

This is L5P's neighborhood spot. I can't complain much about El Myr. The service is pretty bad, so it loses a star for that. I don't care for the " it's Little Five Points so it's cool and service is supposed to be bad" stuff. Because this place has been such a little charmer for me all these years, I am definitely giving it four stars! If you have to stop to eat and have a drink in L5P, I would always recommend this place.

  • Anna F.

So, just a few days ago, I wrote a review about Taqueria del Sol, claiming they had the best tacos in the city. Well, El Myr's smoked pork taco definitely gives'em a run for their money! One taco is gonna be the size of your head, and it's only $5.75. Sooo delicious, I will totally go back. However, be warned of: the super long wait; the less-than-comfortable seating (backless barstools); the indifferent servers; and the typical smoky, noisy Little 5 bar atmosphere.

  • Ari M.

I've been going to El Myr for years and while I've experienced a few hiccups in service, I can say overall the staff is on point and friendly. The food is great and the environment is mad cool! This is not a faux hipster hangout, these are mostly your locals...real people.

Another great little local joint in walking distance from my house! El Myr is an awesome little Mexican joint with unbelievable fish tacos! I repeat - unbelievable! I snagged one on the go today. Really great for grab and go, and equally great for just chilling on their screened in patio. Honestly, if you're looking for something low key to do with your buddies, this is the place to go. Lots of convenient parking in the residential area across the street too.

Wow. What can I say about El myr? It is hands down my favorite place to be in Atlanta. It is my home away from home. The regulars at "Table 2" are just about the best people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. The food is great! You must try the BBQ chicken quesadilla! There is nothing like an ice cold PBR, a huuuge burrito, a damn fine selection of music, and the best friends in town to really make a bar good! Its not just the food and drinks that pull ya in. There are stories everywhere in this place. From the fake signatures on the glossy 5 by 7's, to the donuts, to a memorial to a friend who left el myr for the last time way too early. Its my favorite place to be and will be forever!

if you have to ask.... my job forced me out of atlanta, and from the day I left little 5, I dream of finding another bar like el myr. if you're not a local, become one. pay your dues as an outsider, and then welcome home you bastard. pbr. i miss you el myr.

fuck you Moe's - this is what a burrito should be. More of a bar atmosphere. A great addition to L5P - not a pretty place, but many times, that's where the foods at.

I went to this place on the advice of two friends. We all ordered chicken burritos, and and appetizer of chips and cheese dip. We first receive some cheap store bought corn chips with our cheese dip. The chips were not of restaurant quality. The cheese dip was what was expected. MEH! So we all receive our burritos for the main dish. I have to say that their portions were very generous. My burrito was about 3" in diameter , very stuffed. But when I began to eat it I was disappointed. The filling was too much and sloppy. I also ordered a side of dried out beans and plain overcooked rich mush. I did not received rice ordered but one of our party was disgusted with hers so she opted to hand hers to me. I didn't eat it. To give the other reviews credit, our waiter also was switched up with another during our meal. I would not return to this place. If your are looking for some cheap grub, and don't care about quality, this place is for you.

I have been coming here for the 9 years I have lived in Atlanta. Its a dive burrito joint that every city in america should have. With its $2 pbr's, $5 burritos, and a jukebox with the misfits and george jones on it.

I LOVE THIS PLACE. This is my favorite little dive bar in Atlanta. I come here religiously once a week and order a pitcher of texas margaritas (which are made to perfection every time) and chicken nachos. I've also had many other items on their menu, but the nachos are my favorite. The green burritos are exceptional as well, my friends always order them. The other bar goers are an eclectic group of cyclers, bikers, and the regular L5P crowd. Don't come here if you can't hang in a smokey enviroment because it hangs like a fog as soon as you walk in the door. If you spend any amount of time here you will smell like an ashtray. That said, there's not a whole lot of seating, so get here early, or you will wait. Also, many patrons come and park themselves at the bar for a long night of drinking, so again, get here early if you want a seat! The wait service isn't the best, sometimes you're neglected, so I recommend getting a pitcher of whatever you're going to drink so you don't have to reorder as many times. I like going on weeknights to avoid the crowds and lack of service. But with cheap prices and an "anything goes" attitude, you can't beat this place. LOVE IT!

I was so disappointed when Tortilla's on Ponce Closed, due to Moes (nasty!) opening and swiping the business. So of coarse I was excited to learn that El Myr had opened, and it was in little five! This was a good five years ago, at least, and I've yet to once be let down by the place. As everyone says, the burritos are HUGE. Seriously, two people could be stuffed sick on these things. The wait staff are always uber cool, it's quick most days (sometimes they're jam-packed with people, and it's just common sense that it might take a while), and even when it takes some time, it's worth it. It's a great hang out place, screened patio, big tables, loud music, it's just over all a fun meal experience. Their prices are totally affordable (one of the only affordable places left!), their green salsa is to die for, and the margaritas are cheap and tasty. Why anyone would be let down is greek to me.

I like this place. It's not fancy, which is what is so great about it. Just good burritos, good beer, good prices, a nice staff and a fantastic juke box. Hooray!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
