Probably one of the most authentic-feeling Mexican restaurants in which I've been. First of all, the parking lot was being worked on. For all of you who mentioned in your review all the potholes. The lot is not bigger but it'll be smoother at least. Ordered a carne asada burrito WITHOUT the salsa verde... I am a WUSS and I can't deal with spicy. For some reason, I was jipped on the beans and rice. That was a bummer.. my meal-mate asked for a bean-and-rice-less burrito, so I guess the orders got crossed I guess, but I think it would have been better with that stuff in there. However, because of it, I had a ton of meat in my burrito and it was pretty tasty. I'd definitely go back to try other goodies and I hear the horchata is legit, if you're into that.

Friend of ours sent us here, I started getting excited when I saw everything from landscape trucks to cops parked outside at lunchtime. Cheap, hot, FAST delicious tacos, I adore the little salsa condiment bar, only thing keeping this humble jewel from getting 5 stars from me is no beer. Counter service only. Mexican sodas, a not over sweet horchata, man I am a happy guy gnawing away on a lengua taco (carnitas, tripa, all the fun stuff here) and trying to figure out what's going on the telenovela in the corner TV. Two people (one of them a very eager me) two beverages plus a dish of very non-gourmet queso and salsa...we barely broke $18. In, fed, back on the road in maybe 25 minutes. Love it!

This place is pretty good. The inside looks like a dumpster because I bet it has been decades since the last renovation, but this is also what authentic, proletariat Mexican is supposed to look and feel like. I don't think the cashier spoke much English..though that was kind of a good sign for quality Mexican fare around here. She told me (in Spanish) that her favorite was the steak burrito and so a steak burrito it shall be. Four stars for you Taco Veloz. Your flour burrito was filled with over 80% marinated flank steak and mixed with onions and seasonings. The next time I am waiting for a Marta bus across the street, you are my go to spot.

By far the best tacos around. After growing up in south Florida and in a Hispanic household, I'd say I've had my fair share of tacos. Taco veloz is as authentic as it gets, the carne asada, the al pastor, and the carnitas are all as good as can be, even the lengua (tongue)!! It's a traditional hole in the wall kind of spot but don't underestimate it, it will absolutely hit the spot!

We came here to try some new tacos since my boyfriend is a huge fan of any and all tacos. We had the impression it would be "authentic." The only thing I'm going to say is that I ordered a chicken taco and a carne asada taco. I bit into the chicken taco and immediately switched to try the carne asada. It was ok. Then I went back to the chicken taco and after another bite realized why I didn't really like it. They put CANNED CHICKEN in it!!!!!!!!!!!!! My bf had a chicken taco too and his was the same. If you've eaten canned chicken you know you can't mistake it for anything else. I wouldn't per se care as much but I'm pregnant and am told to stay away from canned goods as much as possible. Plus, honestly, that is so disgusting even if you're not worried about the health implications. So gross. Will never go back. Even my bf didn't eat it and he is NOT picky when it comes to tacos.

I'm a fan of Mexican food and this place really feels authentic. Even with multiple locations, it still feels like a local one of a kind spot. Burritos are great and so are the tacos. Chicken is a little too dry for my liking but the beef tongue is excellent. About to try a quesadilla next...

Number 1, (it always goes bad when you start off numbering)....I specifically told the drive-thru lady that I wanted chicken tacos. It was late at night and I had the sudden urge after working out. I picked up my food and once I got home......IT WAS ALL STEAK!!!! At this point I'm pissed because I don't mess w/ cows. I "Eat Mor Chikin" as the Chic-Fil-A slogan goes. So I'm extra heated because the place was about to close and the exchange was impossible that night. I went back the next day with 3 cold steak tacos still in pristine condition. They swapped me out after I sat there with some very interesting looking people and also bypassing a dried up dead frog by my car door. I should've known better to check my food this time. When I got home, I had my taste buds ready to dive head first into these tacos and the freaking soft shells were falling apart!! I didn't have it in me to go back to this place. It only gets 2 stars because I was able to stomach 2 tacos. The rest were delivered as a buffet for the flies in the dumpster. Never again.

I recently went here with some friends and we all really enjoyed what we had. This is simple yet delicious mexican food. As someone from Southern California, it was great to find somewhere that serves authentic mexican food and not the Americanized version that many people are used to. I would recommend any of the tacos as they are all served in corn tortillas with onions and cilantro. Top them with some fresh salsa from the salsa bar and you are set!

I was fishing in the Hootch all day today and was starving, so felt like Mexican but decided to pass the Taco Bell and look for something better. Ive been to El Taco Veloz at three different locations over the years, including this one so opted to stop there again. It looks the same as it did 15 years ago, only the prices have changed! I order enchiladas and Shredded Beef Burrito. Three times I told the gal ESPECIAL...you have Supremo or Especial options. I got a blank state, and she rings Supremo instead. I didn't notice until I got the food, but geez, sometimes why bother! It's not worth it to go back. I go to get the little cups of salsa and red is my favorite so I go in there first, first dip and the spoon brings up hair...oh no!!! STOP....no red today. I get the food and refried were tasty but the rest very poor. The enchiladas were dry and rather tasteless. The burrito is a copy of everyone elses monster burrito that looks like something a plane would drop in a war. Everyone wants a super big one. Big though does nothing for me if its filled with cheap filler. Loading a big burrito with rice just to make it big is a pet peeve of mine..and its all over town. The meat was mushy and not good at all. Too much liquid in the burrito made it fall apart. I could have done better at Taco Bell for a whole lot less. Mexican places in general all over town are very poor. You say well they all have Mexicans in the kitchen eh? True!, but very very few of these people were cooks in Mexico. No wonder!

I feel I have more right than anyone here beause I AM REALLY MEXICAN, this place is shitty outside and looks like an old crackhouse, but the food is good, believe me... if you like greasy good, don't look further... salsa is hot and served on ketchup bottles... they also have mexican drinks and chiles toreados (grilled jalapeños)... need more...? 5 ESTRELLAS

I feel I have to write a review for this Taco Veloz location to separate it from the one on Buford Highway. The tacos here are good and cheap, but not as magical as the tacos from the shack on Buford. I don't understand it, but shack trumps restaurant!

Driving around looking for Mexican food last night, pulled out my yelp app and this was the closest most highly rated place. Upon pulling up to the building I had my second thoughts- but my husband convinced me it had to be authentic as there were plenty of hispanic people there. I'm not really an expert on Mexican food. Unless it's Indian food, I don't feel qualified to rate food on it's authenticity. After briefly scanning over the other reviews, it seems most of the negative reviews were from people who had chicken. I didn't try any. My husband ordered the carne asada taco, a torta (Milanesa?), and cheese tamale. I ordered the chile relleno burrito and we got an extra "super burrito" with barbacoa. My husband is a pretty picky eater and he loved the food so much he wants to eat there again today. The chile relleno burrito is yuuuuuummmmy! It's literally just chile relleno wrapped in a flour tortilla. I think getting "everything on it" means getting onions, tomatillo salsa and cilantro. If you like spicy, they have the great sauce on the salsa bar- it looks like pureed avocado or something. But it tastes more like garlic, cilantro, touch of sour cream and fire. The servings are pretty generous. I tried a bite of the barbacoa- totally delicious- like finely shredded bbq- but we had that left over and the cheese tamale. I would recommend it for the beef stuff. According to other reviews maybe not the chicken.

I really have been looking for an authentic Mexican joint since I've been here in Georgia. This one is good, and almost does it for me. Being that I'm from S. Cali, makes my opinion of authentic Mexican a bit skewed to what I've had in S. Cali taco stands and in Mexico itself. That being said, I praise this taco store for having good tacos, at a very affordable price. That being said, why minus 1 star? Well, I guess the main thing is.. I wasn't the most fond of the pastors or chicken burritos they serve here. Their beef tacos and burritos are fantastic though, so I highly recommend those. The value here is very good. I ordered $14 of tacos thinking me and my comrades were hungry hippos.. this was intended to feed 3 people mind you, and I felt like the quantity given was enough to feed 4 or 5. We had two burritos (1 beef, and 1 chicken). Again, the Carne Asada burrito was delicious! The chicken burrito, was good, but a bit on the oily side and we ended up not finishing this one. I had 5 extra tacos (3 beef aka carne asada, and 2 pork aka pastors). The food was delicious, but as some of the other reviewers mention, they are hot! Spicy HOT! We are Korean, and for us to say they are HOT, means, they are HOT! The salsas and sauces they have are not for the wary, I assure you. The horchatas here are delicious as well and I suggest you try one from here as they are very good. They have a self parking lot, and a very mexican taco joint feel to the place which is a plus imho. Will definitely return!

Let me first say, I've had better experiences with the Taco Veloz on Buford, so it's possible this location just had a bad day. While here, I ordered two tacos and some rice. The tacos come with the meat of your choosing, onions, cilantro, and salsa verde (not 100% sure it's this, but whatever, it was tasty). I asked for it without cilantro as cilantro tastes like soap to me (look it up, it's a real thing!). So naturally they gave me tacos with cilantro and fries. Besides this, the rest of the taco was tasty. Aside from the ordering mishap, although cheap, they really are overcharging. I used to work by Taco la Villa, which is a lot like Taco Veloz. The main difference, though, is that Taco la Villa has $1 tacos instead of Taco Veloz's $1.69 tacos. They're the same stuff, so it's hard for me to justify Taco Veloz's higher prices. Overall, it's probably the best Mexican food you'll have in the area, but be careful with the ordering and the pricing.

I was desperately craving Mexican on the drive home from work and knew that Taco Veloz has Mexican to go. They actually have a drive thru window, but that was a little too Taco Bell for me so I went in to order. I started to second guess my decision for dinner because divey doesn't even begin to describe it - Taco Veloz looks like it should be condemned. The whole menu is on a big board behind the counter in typical fast food restaurant style. I went for a chile relleno and jalepeno queso to go. English is clearly the second language spoken at El Taco Veloz because when the employee asked me which chile relleno I wanted, there was some broken conversation back and forth, and by the end of it I had no idea what kind of chile relleno I ordered. She was very friendly, but I wouldn't recommend asking her all about the menu in English. 3-4 minutes and an impressively cheap $5.50 later, I was handed my bag of to go food. As soon as I left the Mexican war zone of a restaurant and got to my car, curiosity got the best of me and I opened the mysterious chile relleno entree. It turns out I got a chile relleno taco. It's a chile relleno shoved in a soft taco with some sort of sauce on it. Yum! Their chips are thick and crunchy unlike your typical thin, crispy Mexican restaurant chips, but they're really good and hearty and do a great job scooping up the queso. I will definitely be back and want to try the chile relleno burrito next time. The parking lot and interior left enough room for desire that I think I will stick with to go food, but this is some super cheap and delicious Mexican food.

My mother and I had lunch at El Taco Veloz after a morning of shopping, and I was a little disappointed. I had super high expectations based on everyone's reviews, but I just didn't think it was that great. Maybe I didn't order the right things, though, because there were some hints that greatness was possible. We started with the chips and salsa, which was by far my favorite part of the meal. The chips were outstanding! I wish they were served with salsa instead of pico de gallo but the pico was also tasty. For my entree, I chose the chile relleno burrito with rice and beans. I don't know why, but I thought the rice and beans would be with the burrito, not inside it. There were also surprise jalapeno slices throughout that made the burrito almost unbearably spicy. My mom got the barbacoa burrito, also with rice and beans. Again, slightly surprised that the rice and beans were inside, but also they were hardly there. It was pretty much a giant roll of meat. She got tired of it about halfway through, there was just too much meat. I tried a little of the meat, and found it to be kind of flabby, but very well-seasoned. Overall, just an ok visit, but I'd like to come back and give it a second try.

2 things first off...Open late! and authentic street style Mexican food. I love around the corner & hit them up on the late night often for my "4th meal." Originally from a border town, I'm kinda snobbish around Mexican food but this place is good. (Not a commercialized or tex mex lover unless that was my taste that night). ****Parking lot is HORRIBLE (Roswell Rd location) I mean AWFUL so watch it driving thru. It's ALWAYS clean & playing telenovelas. This is a dive as another reviewer mentioned so don't expect fine dining.

I love me some Mexican food and this place hands down is true authentic delicious Mexican baby! Everything here is on point..(yes ive tried it all! ) the fact that they have a drive thru is even more reason for you to check this place out. If you are overwhelmed by the selection the barbacoa anything is a good place to start or steak tacos. Also fairly priced and they have jarritos!

El Taco Veloz serves up some of the most authentic Mexican tacos and burritos you can find in Atlanta. The tacos are spicier than you get elsewhere, usually served on corn tortillas with a delicious (spicy) green salsa. This isn't a fancy taco joint, but if you are looking for authentic, tasty tacos at a cheap price this is your place. I recommend the carne asada (both the burrito and taco). I've never actually been inside, but food from the drive through is usually fresh and speedy.

I was driving down Roswell Rd today, and saw El Taco Veloz. My daughter and I decided to stop in for some carne asada tacos and chicken tacos. I was impressed to see that they had a drive-thru, however the overall appearance of the restaurant itself is outdated and run-down from the outside. I ordered 2 carne asada tacos w/everything and 1 chicken taco w/everything, which means it comes with onion, cilantro ....and I guess at Taco Veloz, they add salsa verde. Let me say, I'm a Chef, I have worked with Mexicans for over 15 years, I lived in Dalton Ga which has a large Mexican population. So to make a long story short, I've tasted some of the best, freshest, most Authentic Mexican food in the state of Ga. None of these foods reside at Taco Veloz. This place claims to be an Authentic Taqueria, I think not!!! They disgrace that title and should allow Taco Bell to come and buy the space, they'd utilize it much better. My carne asada tacos were soggy, literally, the tortillas were falling apart, almost as if they'd been steamed?? There was barely any cilantro or onion, and no sign of a lime squeeze with the tacos. The chicken inside of my chicken taco had a gelatinous look and taste, and again the tortillas( seemed like there were 3 or 4 wrapped around the meat) were SO soggy. My 7 year old daughter gagged! This is by far the worst taco I've ever put in my mouth....and that's saying ALOT!!!! At that point I could've cared less that the customer service was below average or that their health score was an 87. I won't ever spend another red cent at this joint. The only thing Authentic about El Taco Veloz is the spanish speaking mostly Mexican staff. The food sucks, they should all be ashamed. Their Abuelas are turning in their graves!

I work in the construction industry and my Mexican tile contractor told me I had to try this place when I told him I loved authentic Mexican food. I'm very glad he did because this kind of place was seriously lacking in my life First off a disclaimer. Yes, the place looks like it could collapse at any second. Also, the employees, while friendly to the max, do not speak English as a first language. Yes, the place is always full of hard working Mexicans and it's likely that if you are not Mexican you will be in the minority. And yes, it is very authentic, corn tortillas, sparse toppings and the like. If any of this upsets you, I recommend you go to an Americanized burrito chain as this is not your kind of place. Still interested? Great! I am crazy about the tacos al pastor, spicy strips of pork in corn tortillas that I top at the salsa bar with onion, cilantro and lime and the mysterious super hot green salsa. To be honest I have tried several other things on the menu and they have all been fine, but I always get the tacos al pastor. My tile contractor loves the tamales because they remind him of how they were when he was a kid in Texas. They are as good as I have ever had but I just can't get on board with tamales, I think its like yankees with grits or pimento cheese. As far as the price goes there is simply nowhere you can eat this authentic and this good for less.

Disclaimer: My 1 Star rating is because of my one time (1st time) experience ordering Nachos to go. I have not tried anything else or ate at the restaurant. So if you are thinking about ordering Nachos to go, this is highly important you read. I was craving some nachos and decided to hit up a local place and saw that this place got pretty decent reviews. I went in, took me a while to grasp what was on the menu (there are two menus on the wall and not next to each other). I proceeded to order the Super Nachos to go. This is exactly what I observed. She puts in the order to the kitchen. There is an opening so I can see the cooks in the back. I see the cook disappear from the opening and come back. He puts a to go box into the microwave. I first thought uh oh... that's not safe at all... I wonder how long he's gunna microwave that styrofoam box. 2 minutes (theres a huge clock on the wall). The cook pulls out the box and turns around and adds some stuff to it. Then he grabs a white bottle and pours some sauce over it. Then i reailzed that it was my nachos he was heating up for 2 minutes. When he took it out of the microwave, he had placed some avocados and tomatoes and pour some white sauce on top of the chips. W T F. I just paid $9 bucks for them to heat up some chips and meat and pour 2 slices of avocado and tomatoes on it. I was starving so I went home, and tried it. It was just OK. nothing great. Then exactly 5 hours later right before I fell asleep, HUGE stomach pains started and didn't stop for 1 hour. Stomach finally settled down after an hour and I fell asleep. Next morning, let's just say the bathroom was not a fun place to be. SOoooo... lesson? don't order nachos to go.. or anything to go just to be safe as they will just heat up the styrofoam box that you will get. I may or may not visit again to try the tacos (dine in)... but it may be a while before I forget the pain that this place brought me. I will write another review if I do visit...

Only been here once, but I liked the burrito I had. It was a chilli relleno burrito. The regular size did the charm. The red salsa on the side was great. The stuffed pepper was really really hot and it burned my mouth up a bit, so be forewarned of that - not to dig right in too quickly. The place itself is kind of... meh... I guess expected for a hole in the wall taqueria. What matters more though was that the burrito was good. I'd come back to try other things here given the chance.

The food itself was good but the tortillas were nasty! They were stuck together, they tasted and looked like they were steamed. I'm sorry, but a tortilla can either make your taco bad ass or just bad and in this instance it was just plain BAD .. The music was going, tv on loud on some soap opera and it was a little much.. Couldn't wait to get out !

El Taco Veloz is a pretty good authentic Mexican taco joint. I got a chicken taco and a shredded beef taco. They were good, not great. I wasn't too pleased with the service. I ordered mine to go, and it definitely was not veloz. The salsa bar was kinda weird. I got some green stuff assuming it was tomatillo salsa, but it tasted pretty funky. I'm not sure if it was tomatillo salsa or not. I'll definitely try this place again.

I have eaten here maybe a few hundred times by now...Absolutely delicious, and the staff is super friendly. Heads up for first timers: Ask what comes on the tacos/nachos/etc. The menu has very little information on it, but they will make anything to your liking.

This is El Taco Veloz 2. At least that's what the receipt says. Roswell Rd. El Taco Veloz is conveniently located just south of the I-285 exit. The parking lot is a mess. It looks like a war zone. I almost recommend having an SUV with 4-wheel drive to navigate the restaurant's uneven pot-hole-filled lot. Drive slowly. This location is the blue-collar El Taco Veloz, at least during lunchtime. I saw all sorts of work crews stop in for lunch wearing their company-branded shirts. Painters, landscapers, kitchen remodelers, roofers, and a construction group all in one sitting! I guess it makes sense since I believe the immediate area used to be a pickup point for contractors looking for manual labor. As such, this restaurant can get dirty, especially during a busy lunch hour when the staff doesn't have time to leave the counter or kitchen and wipe off tables and seats, mop the floors, and clean the restrooms. A lot of the workers with their muddy boots can drag in a lot of dirt. The entire floor in the tiny men's room was covered in murky water. Cleanliness aside, the food at this place is alright. It's authentic Mexican eats and it's affordable. Tacos, burritos, quesadillas, nachos, tortas (Mexican sandwiches), and more. There is a lot to choose from, which is one reason I like this Atlanta chain. Examples of pricing include tacos at $1.69 each and burritos and tortas around $5.00 each. They also serve breakfast, plates, and an assortment of specials. You won't find anything over $10. They have a 3 taco plate special for $6.82. You can choose from 8 different types of tacos. The tacos are served by default in two-layer flour tortillas. You can request corn too. The plate also comes with orange rice, beans (with a little bit of melted cheese), and a red jalapeno pepper. The rice and beans aren't very impressive, but really not much to expect there. I tried the carne asada (charbroiled steak), barbacoa (soft shredded pork), and pollo (chicken) tacos. I thought the carne asada and barbacoa were both good. Well-seasoned, so the meats were tasty. The chicken wasn't bad either. It was tender, but could have had more flavor. Salsa was a must on the tacos. The self-serve salsa bar has 3 different kinds of salsa, chopped onion, minced cilantro, and whole green jalapenos. The green jalapenos were cold and were prepared so they weren't spicy anymore. The red jalapenos (served on some plates) look like they're similarly prepared to the green ones, but they are spicy. The salsa varieties included 2 green (one spicy, one non-spicy), and one thick red salsa. I've also tried one of the specials here: the $7.99 "Mojarra Frita." This is a plate with a whole tilapia that has been deep-fried. The tilapia is served on top of French fries with a small salad (shredded lettuce, slice of tomato, slice of avocado), orange rice, and some tortilla shells (if you want to make tacos out of it). If you're looking for something easy to eat, do not order this. It takes a while to pick at all the small bones. I thought it was pretty tasty and there was some good meat to be had on the fish. The fish was crispy and not too greasy, which I appreciated. The fries were very plain. Since this was a special order, it took a longer for it to come out. Foods are served on Styrofoam plates, drinks in Styrofoam cups, and all silverware is disposable and made of cheap plastic (very bendable). Each piece of silverware is individually wrapped. The tilapia in my Mojarra Frita actually burned a hole through my plate! Well, I guess they have to keep costs low somehow. While I have no issues with the food here, I do think this restaurant could be cleaner. You can watch Latino TV channels on the two small TVs in here. I think I prefer the El Taco Veloz location on Chamblee Dunwoody the most.

I'm seriously a fan of El Taco Veloz. I've been to almost all of the El Taco Veloz locations; Windy Hill, BuHi, Chamblee Dunwoody, and this Roswell Rd store. They have two other locations in Gainesville and Norcross. The Roswell Road location has the most seating out of the ones I have been to. The Chamblee Dunwoody location has the best bathroom, lol. Windy Hill and Roswell Rd has a dinky tv that's always turned on to Latin soaps. The intros are so dramatic, hehe. All of the locations have drive-thru ordering. This place gets jam-pack during lunch hours. You can order combo meals or a la carte. Check the combo selections on the wall as some of it isn't posted on the main menu. I highly recommend the beef tongue and barbacoa taco. The stuff is magical. That's an understatement, man. I usually limit myself to 3 but I could really eat 10. Even though it seems meager compared to the tortas, it's actually pretty filling. I'm just a beast. I don't recommend the fried fish. It was deeply fried tilapia and there was not a lot of edible meat. I'm guessing it's not a very popular special because it took a while to get the fish and it didn't look fresh when it arrived. Tortas are a big bang for your bucks. It's a REALLY filling sandwich. It includes your choice of meat and avocado, tomatoes, among other veggies. Of course, they have Jarritos and Horchatas. There's also a sauce stand that includes lime slices, pepper, diced onions. The sauces can be pretty spicy, even the innocent looking, creamy, pastel-green sauce. If you're ordering via drive-thru, you'll have to request the sauce you want. The service is fine. The workers are nice to me, probably because they recognize me as the Asian girl who always order the same thing.

Great working class Mexican food, where the majority of the clientele are hard working, blue collar Latinos. I love this place and their solid selection meat fillings. You will not find waiters walking around, mariachi bands playing or sombreros adorning the walls. What you will find is some of the best Mexican food in Atlanta. Get the barbacoa, carnitas, carne asada, or al pastor, you cannot go wrong! This place Ida's great.

Love the Sandy Springs and Buford Highway locations. My boyfriend and his family are Mexican, and they got me hooked on Taco Veloz. A fan of the carne asada and lengua tacos, as well as the horchata and churros. Oh yeah -- and they have the sweet Mexican soft drinks in the glass bottles. One of the few times a year I drink soft drinks. I tell my friends that this is the best Mexican food in Atlanta.

If you have ever lived in San Diego Ca and you miss Roberto's, Alberto's or Adelberto's this is the place. My favorite mexican food in the city.

Can someone please tell me what the fuck is going on?? I am having shitty food karma this week. Especially since everyone else seems to love this place. I pass this dingy restaurant all the time and have always wanted to stop so today I did. I drove pass the migrant workers waiting for work and pulled up to the pickup window. I was a bit early for the lunch rush so there were no cars in front of me. Waited a bit at the menu board while saying hello! louder and louder until I finally decided to pull around. Lady comes to the window to take my order. Dos Pollo Tacos. Everything on it, she asks. Um yeah, why would I want tacos minus the best part- onions and cilantro. I get my 2 $0.99 tacos and drive off. I could not wait to tear into my cheap ass food. Which was exactly what it was. Cheap, oh and shitty. Like in the top 10 of worst tacos ever. I have had mucho better tacos at Carnicerias around the area. The issues- the chicken meat was in the largest hunks ever. I have never seen a taco from a real taco place that had hunks this big. The chicken was dry and tough. I bite into the first taco and get a nice, crunchy taste of old-as-Moses corn tortillas. That shit should have been thrown out long ago. Any hoo. They also put the tomatillo salsa on which I didn't like but can't fault them for since she did ask if I want everything- apparently everything includes salsa FYI. The tacos, along with their gross chicken inside and close to being a hard taco outsides, had to be thrown out. I just couldn't stomache another shitty meal. So another meal down the drain. I really don't want to, but I need to try this place again just because so many people rate this place high. I am not sure what the fuck happened with this place today, but I hope to hell that it doesn't happen again. If not I am going to yell foul to this crowd of yelpers.

Hole-in-the-wall place that had delicious smells coming out of it - this is why I stopped by. I ordered the chicken chimichanga and chicken enchiladas - both had dry, overcooked chicken. Very mediocre food. I have had way, way better mexican food. Will NOT be back

I come by Taco Veloz whenever I'm craving a huge amount of meat for lunch. Like most places, once I find something I like, I don't stray much. My usual order is a standard beef burrito and a mango pie. Unlike Chipotle or other Americanized burritos, their regular burrito does not come with rice, beans, lettuce or much of anything really, which is grrrreat cuz I hate fillers. For less than $6, you're basically getting 9.25 oz of cubed steak (yes, I weighed it) wrapped in a soft tortilla. Steak on the go = the best. I believe the Buford Hwy location is the original store/stand but this one is much easier to park and much friendlier for people who aren't used to standing & eating or cramming into a little tent with a bunch of strangers.

Salsas here are clutch. I would compare this to a Rancho Bravo back in the Seattle area with tastier meat choices. Make sure you get a taco with whatever you're having (even when you're already getting tacos, get an extra one) because you're going to want one, and consider it a trip-saving tip.

This place really deserves 5 stars; however, it is basically a hole in the wall dive serving up great tacos and burritos so it might (hell..it won't) suit everyones tastes. Great salsa bar (except for the Buford Hwy location [salsas come on squeeze ketchup bottles]). Great horchata. Plenty of choices of Mexican soda flavors (Jariscos). I especially love their Huevos Mexicana (eggs scrambled with peppers, onions and tomatoes) served with mexican rice, refried beans, and piping hot corn tortillas.

Eaten here once and it was the last. It's nearby, and that's the only reason I would have chosen this place. The building is falling apart, the food is poor quality, and if you don't want to get lambasted by the illegals begging for work outside, don't bother... Others I have spoken to have stopped there for a quick bite to eat and said pretty much the same thing...

I love this place! The steak burrito supreme is the best. I knocked off a star because of the cleanliness...which is not enough to keep me away!

Love love LOVE THE FOOD HERE. Growing up in So.Cal. This is the best mexican food I've found in Atlanta. I plan my errands so I can drive by for a carne asada burrito! Add cheese and 1/4 avocado...yum! The chicken quesadilla with grilled onions and avocado added is awesome too!

I am so, so sad to give this place 2 stars. I had really high hopes for this place. The chips and salsa were REALLY good. The chips had a nice solid crunch and really yummy flavor, and the pico was very fresh and very good. Things started off so well. Then I bit into my taco - I followed the advice of my fellow Yelpers and stayed far away from the chicken. I got the carnitas instead. The meat itself was pretty good, the spiciness was great, but CORN TORTILLA? YUCK. I hate the flavor and texture of corn tortillas. Give me flour any day!! That alone lost this place a star (although I admit, this is totally personal preference - if you like corn tortillas, you'll love the tacos). Also, I did kind of wish that there was more to the taco than just cilantro, meat, and tomatilla sauce. Maybe some pico, or some sour cream? But I know that's just how some places are, especially the authentic ones, so that didn't lose it a star. So what cost this place the other two stars? The health department rating. YUCK YUCK YUCK. They got a 56! That's a failing grade - and pretty solidly failing too. I didn't get a chance to read the entire thing, but one of the areas they lost a lot of points was "holding temperature for cooked meats". So please, if you eat here, be careful. I think I'll stick to the chips and salsa, next time (if there is a next time).

I echo what Zach E said. Their chicken tacos are $0.99 cents and it is not scary meat. It was large chunks of what looked to be freshly poached chicken breast. As I stood in line, I noticed a worker in the kitchen chopping a massive bushel of cilantro. If you are sensitive to really hot sauce, I suggest asking them to omit the salsa as it is really hot. I liked it. My daughter was in pain. The chili relleno taco was a fried chili with cheese stuffed in the traditional double corn tortilla. Yummy if not exactly low cal. Their beef was nicely chopped (not schredded) with heavy cilantro and great oniony and/or garlic flavor. They have a small salsa bar with to-go cups. There were also grilled, whole jalapenos on the bar for those who really like fire. The service was friendly and efficient. I was there at 11:30 lunch on Friday and there was only one person in line. I tried this place for lunch last Friday and had it again for dinner on Saturday. This is my new go-to taqueria. I order to go and take it home to enjoy with my favorite cervesa.

The super nachos are amazing. My old coworkers loved the bean burritos but after having super nachos you can't go back. You could feed a family with a single order of these nachos.

I'm in search for a real, authentic tacos al pastor, like you get in Mexico City. This wasn't remotely close. Tacos al pastor are supposed to be crisp, tender, with a hint of vinegar to contrast the spiciness -- and this was just a mushy mess. Heck, there wasn't even traditional pineapple available. Whoever thinks this is a real taco al pastor hasn't left the country. Despite that, it is decent cheap eats. I suppose if I didn't know what a real taco al pastor was like, I would have liked it better.

5 stars based on price & food taste. It's not trying to be anything that it's not thus I give it high marks. This is not a place to bring guests who you are looking to impress....BUT if you like tacos and CHEAP this a great place near other ITP hangouts that wont break the bank.

If you like street vendor taco you will love this little Mexico heaven. I would go for the steak taco's which are a great started. The prices are really cheap as well I think you can get there tacos now for around 99 cents. Until this place I never really cared to much for Mexican food but I have to say this place made me finally fall in love with it.

  • Blaire B.

This is not taqueria del sol, so don't expect trendy atmosphere and americanized food. This is real, get-down mexican food. If that is what you are looking for, then look no further. I ordered the two-taco platter for around $5.00, which included two tacos and rice and beans. Everything was fantastic. The tacos (al pastor and carnitas) were delicious. I usually don't like refried beans, because they are usually canned, but these were definitely made fresh and I loved them. I was also feeling adventurous so I ordered a tamale, which I have never had before. Not really a huge fan, but seeing as I have nothing to compare it to, that could just be chalked up to personal preference. And another bonus....Mexican cokes!

  • Ben D.

The place was packed but there wasn't a car in the parking lot. It looks like section 8 housing, but the food is dynamite. They have a strict dress code of a dirty wifebeater and a hair-net, so consider yourself warned.

  • Samuel L.

OK, this place is definitely good if you are drunk as shit, they are open late enough. I had a burrito con pollo, it was edible, but for some reason when a place looks as shitty as this I expect great food especially Mexican food. This place gets a serious minus for serving me old queso though, it had a sticker on it that said 4-29-2010, I believe yesterday was 5-4-10. I'm not sure if that is old in the queso world, but it seems to be. This place does get a plus for the 2 hookers and pimp that were in there though, that is a serious plus for any respectable place.

I am really wanting to give them a 4 star, but their food somehow is very inconsistent. The 5 times I've been (3 times I was at their Norcross location) was good and bad. I must say that this joint serves the authentic tacos and that the price is very reasonable. The salsa is very good and so are the tacos. My problem is that their quality of the meats aren't the same every time. Chicken can be very dry at times and carne asada can be very oily and yucky at times so is carnitas. Overall, I guess I would give this place a go - if you really crave the authentic tacos~ if you are willing~ ^^ Oh~ how I miss east L.A~!

I wasn't a big fan of this place. There is nothing wrong with the food, it just wasn't what I was looking for. I like flavor, and A LOT of it. I found the bistec and the carne asada tacos to be lacking. It was authentic, I was the only gringo in the place, but the staff was nice and i didn't get any sort of stares. Cashiers were solidly bi-lingual. Seriously felt like I a-had stepped across the border, that part I liked. 5 stars for authenticity 2 stars for flavor (maybe it was just too authentic) Hope that makes sense :)

The carne asada and chile renello burritos are awesome. The chips and salsa are good, too. A warning: it's not for folks who care about atmosphere. The nicest location I've been to is an old Pizza Hut.

Ok...I'm torn here because this is one of my favorite spots and I wanna keep it a secret but just can't. It's just too good. Everything is fresh and it's all very authentic. When I moved here from Los Angeles years ago a buddy took me here knowing it was exactly what I was looking for when I couldn't find a plain old taco stand. It looks like a dump but all the food is fresh and the employees don't mess around. They get you your food with no fuss and no muss. Do yourself a favor...

I have been thinking of trying this place since I moved down the street. But after reading the Yelp reviews I just had to grab some on the way home from the office today. So I pull off the Roswell/285N exit and immediately pull into the first gas station on my right and pick up a 6 pack of Negro Modelo. I then continue a block down to the taco joint and pick up a mixture of Carne Asada and Chicken Tacos. Even though I did take my tacos to go, I would eat there. It's not pretty with the green and yellow paint but who really cares that it was an old pizza hut? Really? Of my two choices, the Carne Asada is the way to go. They have great flavor and cooked very close to what I'd find in any Taqueria when I lived in Houston. The chicken is blah but, as the other reviewers say, the meat actually looks to be chicken breast. Which is a definite plus. Beware the salsa that comes on the tacos is actually spicy, but don't think you can ditch it and use the guacamole because it's just as spicy. The Negro Modelo w/ a lime was great pairing btw.

My five stars is purely for the amazing food and fast service. You are better off if you can order in spanish, napkins seem to be hard to find inside, and the inside has all the ambience of a ghetto Hardees, BUT the food is just out of this world guilty pleasure good. My mouth is watering just thinking about the carne asada tacos I had a few days ago...mmm I wish I was eating them again right now... I am a cilantro pig, and they don't disappoint. Hot green salsa is the bomb, especially when mixed into a bowl of jalapeno cheese dip. Ok I need to stop writing and go get me some tacos! I'd give them 6 stars for flavor if I could, but only 3 for atmosphere, which would be 4.5 averaged so I rounded up. :D Think of it as fast food and you won't mind the shabby decor but will be wowed by the awesome food. Go! Try it!

As the construction around the Prado will likely bring more of the same chain-type restaurants, visitors may want to venture just North of the new Sembler complex for lunch to the El Taco Veloz, an authentic Mexican taqueria. You will need to look past the exterior and the fact that its situated right next to a Love Shack adult store. Come to think of it, the inside won't win any Architectural Digest award either. But the fact that the Dora episode they were showing on the two TVs was in Spanish led me to believe I wouldn't be disappointed. And I wasn't. The food here will make you look past any burrito you have ever had at Moe's or Chipotle. The menu is relatively simple- mainly tacos and burritos. There are carne asada versions of both, with the meat tender and full of flavor. Lady Steakhead had a chile relleno taco, which was also outstanding. She is a big fan of corn tortillas, which is how the tacos are served (you can request either). There is a salsa bar with some wonderful selections including a particularly spicy salsa verde. The pico served with the side order of chips is outstanding. As I was leaving, I requested a to-go menu and was ecstatic to see they serve breakfast. I just love me some huevos rancheros! And breakfast places are what I have missed the most since move from Cabbagetown. May have to do that next weekend.

This place rocks! It's the most authentic tacos and Mexican food in Atlanta that I have found so far. They are very similar to the tacos you find in the Mission District in San Francisco. I've tried every type of taco they have, including the beef tongue. It's all very very good. I highly recommend this place if you want real authentic tacos.

I would normaly walk out when I see a 71 rating on the health chart but I guess I was hungry and the nice mexican women was saying Ola.. so I order uno pollo tostada por favor...with everything. I agree with previous reviewers I am not a fan of the chunked chicken, it was falling out and didnt realy have any flavor. I like the location on Windy Hill better, maybe the cook had a bad day or something. I think I will stick to the tacos and the soft beef and pork next time.

  • Sonya S.

I love this place. Everything they serve is fresh. I love the chicken super burrito with everything and their tacos. Sometimes I get the barbacoa instead of the chicken. When I get the torta, it's always with the barbacoa. The bread that they use is excellent. It is light and substantial enough to hold the fixings. The food is downright delicious. The jamaica (pronounced ham-aica) drink is also delicious. It tastes like cranberry juice! They make their own salsa and sauces that are available in a stand for you to scoop into little cups. Fresh, fast, good and cheap. No, you don't have to order in Spanish! They understand you when you speak English. This is a dive, however, the place is always clean. This is not a chain atmosphere-type place and that makes me like it even more!

  • P T.

At first glance this place just screams food poisoning and explosive diarrhea.....at least until you get inside. There it screams "hobo stab insurance". It reminded me of working in a homeless shelter in Texas. I was really concerned the first time I ate there, but I have to say it was awesome. I've had pretty much every kind of Taco they have and they were all excellent. The Carne Asada is probably my favorite though as the Pollo tacos are super inconsistent on the yum yum scale. I'm kind of curious about the fact that no matter what or how much I order it always costs $13.48. Anyone else noticed that?

After living in California for several years, I thought it would be difficult to find a decent taqueria. El Taco Veloz exceeds the superlative "decent"... it ROCKS! The burrito supremo con pork (please excuse my spanglish) is fantastic. My kids love it too! They are sensitive to heat...which is well appreciated when dealing with a 2 & 3 year old. And the best part---they have a drive-thru!

    (5)
  • j l.

short on ambiance, long on deliciousness. taco veloz is easily my favorite quick-fix taco joint in town, though i still have lots of territory to explore. fresh jugos = one million stars! especially the jamaica. if only they served it in a plastic baggie with a straw... the cheese dip is terrible and tasty, and by that i mean it's a microwaved container of the stuff you can buy at any supermercado...but add in some diced jalepenos and call it homemade. i'm not a fan of the carne asada--it's pretty dry and tough in my experience...but the chicken and beef tacos have always been great. if i'm feeling particularly masochistic, i'll order the chile relleno taco. what i really love about taco veloz, and what i go out of my way for, are the tamales. i LOVE a good tamale, and they're not easy to find. these are soft, fresh, steaming bundles of joy! i love both the red and green versions. they are perfect, especially for the $$. love it. the salsa bar is nice too...but that stuff they call guacamole is pure green capsaicin if ya ask me. yuck. all in all, YUM. on the cheap.

It's not what I grew up on in CA. but, that being said, this is my go to for a Mexican fix! Great food, easy on a budget, and good service! It's a no brainer!

Really good tacos, Super authentic feeling. I love their Chile Rellenos. Not sure if that's spelled right, it's basically a huge pepper filled with cheese wrapped in a soft corn tortilla with the usual toppings. Best one I've had so far in Atlanta. Not a fan of their layout, kind of like a 70's burger king design. Oh well really good food though.

  • A + P.

When my buddy let me pick the place to go for dinner, I asked if a somewhat dive-y Mexican place would be okay. Among that option and a couple of others, he went along with El Taco Veloz, which was good by me since I had been wanting to try it because 1) it has gotten good reviews here for authenticity, 2) it's nearby, and 3) I get points from Skymiles Dining. I had a chicken burritio and a nacho plate. My burrito was good, lots of cilantro and good spiciness. But it was also kinda messy and drippy. The nachos had too much cheese and didn't feel very healthy. There didn't seem to be much in the way of healthier options. Either the burrito or the nachos had my stomach churning afterwards. So as much as I usually go for authenticity, I think I'd rather get a burrito from an Americanized chain or somewhere at least slightly more upscale. I think I'll go back here at least one more time to try the tacos, but today's experience didn't make me feel like I'd put El Taco Veloz on my rotation. Interesting note that they open at 7 a.m., I guess there are some juevos options for breakfast.

Ok- i love this place. and i can't put my finger on why. maybe it's the fact that you must order in spanish? or maybe it's the fact that you can get drive thru cheese dip. (what's better than that when you are hungover??) or maybe bc it's authentic fast food mexican cuisine. the tacos are all soft corn tortillas(2) with choice of meat- i always get pollo- they don't have cheese- but lots of hot green sauce, onions, and fresh cilantro. DELICIOUS- a little salty- but tasty. the cheese dip is really really thick ask for the jalepeno- it's chucks of freshly cut peppers mixed in this creamy delight. and the chips are extra extra thick. the burritos are good too- but nothing like wiily's- like the bean burrrito is refried beans in a flourtortilla with onions and cilantro. anyway, it's a TOTAL dive and i've never eaten inside- just always gone thru thr drive thru. try it!

  • Barry Z.

you can order a burrito if you want but at 6 bucks for a burrito you'll get literally twice as much meat going for 6 one dollar tacos. they dont have carnitas on their menu for some reason and when i asked why she said they carried them nonetheless. next time i'm going ill get 10 tacos and save 5 for later, this place is really good. no real ambiance though, only good for take out. for how good it is and how cheap, 5 stars. best mexican food i've had since being in atlanta.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
