Very convenient location for me and easy parking, too. I love the little terrace and the guys are really nice and kind. I've been there with my GF for lunch: she had her usual Tandoori Chicken and I had Chicken Tikka Masala. Both were delicious, even if their "Indian Spice Kick" was a little mellowed down to please the average Joe's taste :) I'll ask for "hot" next time, and more rice. Prices are super-affordable - always a plus!

I would say - one can go here for a quick bite. I was in the city for a day, so for lunch I quickly searched for Indian restaurant - the reviews showed up bad but I still went there as it was closest to my hotel. I went there with no expectation so I was not disappointed. I only ordered for Potato stuffed Parata and Mango Lassi. I also asked for onion and pickle. Parata was heavy and oily - But i didnt mind... since I was really hungry and particularly wanted to eat aaloo parata. I asked for a detailed bill - but he said they dont give a detailed bill. Again, its not like home food... but whatever I ate was not bad in taste.

My husband and I went there yesterday right before closing after insistance of manager/owner... We felt bad. I'm sure the cook must be furious but we were served delicious Tikka Masala and Tandoori chicken anyway. We loved Butter chicken(Tikka masala). I don't think it was too sweet. Just sweet enough for us. This place is a little pricey but we got big portion of rice and great Naan! Also, I had an Indian beer which is I never had before, it was pretty good. I wouldn't try it everytime I go there since it's $7 for a small bottle but it was worth a try.

Desi is pretty good. I got a bunch of my faves and shared them with my date. It's not the best Indian I've ever had, but it's a nice location for a dinner/movie or dinner/shopping at Trader Joes sorta night. The outside seating is pretty cramped so makes it easy for people to listen in on our conversation, which is what my date said was happening. Better to be in the dark in that one. I'd rather not know that 2 older women are talking about me :/

Decent Indian food in a great location. However, I actually prefer Niramish in Little Five when I can make it there. I've also been to Mirch Masala and Zyka in Decatur, which are more authentic, but less convenient of a location for me. It's a good go-to place and the location is right!

I moved to Atlanta recently from NYC and have been searching everywhere for good Indian. Finally I have found it. We got for a appetizer onion pakaura which was yummy it had a interesting sweetness to it. I was very surprised with the palak paneer it had a almost creamy texture which is something Iv never seen before but it was delicious. My fiancee got Tikka Masala which he was also surprised it had a very coconut taste to it and was super creamy. He said it was almost Thai tasting. Overall Ill def. be going here again.

Seems to have a lot of mixed reviews here, but I've always enjoyed the food. I've only been for weekday lunches though. Service always good. Food tasty. I've only had the vegetarian dishes. No complaints. I think the lunch specials are good and come with a desert option, too. I'd recommend trying this place if you like Indian food.

Hadn't had Indian food in an incredibly long time, but when some co-workers asked if I wanted to join for lunch one Friday, I said "Why not." I got the lamb curry, mild spiciness, (I didn't want to have any regrets on a Friday afternoon after lunch in the office). If I had to do it over again, I think I would have been plenty fine going up on the spiciness scale. Make sure to get an order of the garlic naan. It's a big portion and really good addition to any entree. I would recommend for lunch, but probably would not make this my dinner destination.

I met my friend Thom here for a mid-week man-date at his recommendation. Of course, ever the curious Yelper I of course experienced the overwhelming need to investigate further. Hmmm...3 stars. I went with it. Look, I'm not an Indian pro and admittedly stick to safer fare most of the time. I would be remiss in any attempt to critique this establishment with any modicum of expertise on the subject of "Indian cuisine." Here's my rookie observation: The restaurant is on the small side. Quaint even. Think two tables wide, shotgun depth. The service was friendly and tentative, but frankly we were the one of two tables so it wasn't a busy day for them. The restaurant owners didn't try too hard to make this feel "Indian," which is fine but doesn't really help it stand out among the other restaurants in the complex and doesn't contribute much to an overall experience. It may in fact overburden the food to sell, and I'm not sure it can live up. Lunch was super cheap, though. It was my turn to buy and i think it was only $19 for both of us, and we had an app, too. The food was pretty varied, but there seemed to be a good breadth of options between whitey and Indian expat. Hardly dipping my toe into the water, I opted for the oft-safe Chicken Tikka Massalla. Thom had the...oh...i don't recall. We split the Bhuna Shrimp Puri app. He liked his but i do recall him being disappointed by the dessert. The shrimp app was pretty tasty and interesting. If i remember correctly, it was almost a sweet creamy flavor on the shrimp served inside a super thin pastry puff. The Chicken Tikka Massalla was a generous portion and not so spicy that i worried I'd be gagging up bile the rest of the afternoon. When most everything on the menu warns "spicy" you can understand my concern. The reason i gave them 3 stars is mostly because i can't say it was exceptional. It was a good lunch. But not something I'd necessarily seek out again.

I love this place, we went here for my boyfriends bday and we had a great time. We ordered an authentic appetizer that looks like a globe made out of bread with curry in the middle for dipping!!! For dinner I got a dish that is like a sweet curry but had bananas and raisins, served with a sweet basmati rice. We were also served desert for his bday and it was just great! great service, great value!

Desi Spice is located on the second floor of the Midtown Promenade Center, near the Midtown Art Cinema. Turn off Monroe Drive and keep on driving past Trader Joe's ... or don't, since the food here is awful. Just awful. The lunch specials run Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., offering quite a selection of dishes -- over two dozen, all priced between $6.50 and $7.95. Meals come with an appetizer (your choice of samosa, onion pakora, mulligatawny, or tandoori wings) and dessert (gulab jamun). Portions aren't too big, but they're reasonable, and they come with a good amount of rice. The regular dinner menu isn't as extensive, and the entrees aren't served with rice, despite the much higher price. Unfortunately, while the lunch specials would otherwise be a great deal, the food is, by and large, horrible. The mutter paneer is admittedly passable, though it's not great -- it's actually somewhat bland (despite the somewhat sweet gravy), and they're a bit stingy with the overly hard slivers of paneer. The Kashmiri chicken, on the other hand, is dry (again, despite the gravy), tough, and so overwhelmingly sweet that I found it inedible. The gulab jamun is similarly inedible -- it's huge, but it's incredibly doughy and soggy, and the usual complex flavors just aren't there. The samosas and pakoras are OK, if only because they're fried. It's disappointing that there really aren't any good choices for Indian food in this part of town. If you're in the area and craving Indian, it's honestly a better idea to grab some of the frozen Indian entrees out of the freezer at Trader Joe's (the channa masala isn't bad). Seriously.

Good food, good service, good value. It's not the most amazing food you've ever had in your life, but it's pretty darn good as far as Indian goes. My husband and I went before a movie last week and ordered the "meat for two" option. It came with samosas, a lamb dish, a chicken dish, a veggie side, basmati rice and of course some yummy naan bread. All that for only $36 for dinner and we were more than stuffed when we were done. I would have to say that $18 per person for a dinner date is pretty good. We finished in time for our movie and were super pleased.

I want to love Desi Spice. And, truth is, sometimes I do. The space is cozy, the service is generally good, and the location in midtown is ideal. But the food is hit or miss. I almost always order samosas, matar paneer, and naan. For example, the last time I was there, unfortunately, was a miss as my meal was not nearly as yummy as it has been in the past. That said, I'm a regular, and will keep going back in hopes that it will someday soon be as consistently good as it could be.

We have always had good luck at this Indian Restaurant. We have always been accompanied by folks of Indian ancestry and they seem to think it is quite authentic and the dishes are well prepared. The ambience in a shopping mall is not the greatest but they seem to have made the best of it. We have eaten outdoors and inside with equal success. The staff all appear to be ethnic Indian and the owner usually comes and talks with us on each visit. This seems to add a personal touch. I often recommend it to friends that ask about Indian restaurants in the Atlanta area.

I've enjoyed this place for a long time. Typically I get the tikka marsala, but this time I went with the Rogan-E-Lamb and was not disappointed. The menu said it was medium spicy, but I wouldn't describe it as spicy at all, just very bitter (which I like). When we ordered our waiter flat out asked us if we wanted rice and nan with it, which we did, so I appreciate him running with that assumption. Most of the staff are middle aged Indian men who are a little hard to understand sometimes, but always very jolly and really make you feel at home. Last time I was here I ordered a hot tea and was amazed by how much flavor it had. They have beer or wine available (mostly indian beers I think), and on the one occasion I tried a desert I thought the pistachio ice cream was great. This place keeps me coming back.

I greatly enjoy Indian cuisine and have eaten it at probably a dozen places throughout Atlanta. After two visits, I'm calling it: this place comes in near the bottom of the ladder. Firstly, the entire outdoor seating area smelled heavily of gasoline or some other stinging petroleum product during the night of our most recent visit. I thought that this may have been due to a particularly stinky idling car in the parking lot below us, but I did not see any such thing. Strange and unfortunate, but we opted to stay and dine. We split the vegetarian dinner for two, and very little of it was satisfying or flavorful. The "mixed vegetable curry" was approximately 5 pieces of cauliflower in a teaspoon of sauce and virtually indistinguishable from the aloo gobi. The sag paneer was slightly better, but still thin, runny, largely devoid of creamy flavor and possibly previously frozen. That's a no-no. The lentil dal was average. Their website says that their menu was crafted by a person with 25 years of industry experience, but I am greatly skeptical of this claim after my two visits to Desi Spice. I have yet to taste anything here that I would characterize as above-average, and considering that I've gotten what amounts to a sample platter during both visits, that's not good. Negative 400 stars.

food was really good and service was well, Only complaint - too pricy for what they offer . Maybe they have a lunch menu. Went here yesterday with friends and our 2 year old daughter ( kid friendly ! : high chair, smiling waiters, and nice balcony to look at dogs.... :) ) - everything was tasty and as vegans, we had a lot of choices. Might check it out again, but still - prices could be lower.

Disappointed Bridgette R. 1 Desi Spice I had been a huge fan of "Touch of India" until they sold it off..it became a horrible place to eat...these were the original owners(Deli Spice), so I was happy to try the new place. My favorite was always Chicken Kashmiri...OMG..DO NOT ORDER!! It was awful..it had so much gristle and fat and was extremely chewy! Naan was fine, Somosas was luke warm. Such a shame too...geuss I'll continue my search for GOOD Indian cuisine...this just isn't the place! Report Abuse Was this review helpful to you?

Ever been in a crowded room and you spot someone that isnt the best looking, doesnt have the greatest smile, seems a tad bit shy, but for some reason you HAVE to talk to them..... That's how I felt about Desi Spice since the first day that I saw her. Upstairs in a crowded Plaza with over 10 restaurant choices, Desi doesn't stand out at all. In fact, the fact that its so obscure might be the thing that makes it so attractive. I finally tried this spot out on a low key weekday night. I had been told that Indian food is fantastic if you have a good glass of red wine. Very, very true. Not sure what type of red I had...I imagine it was a Merlot, but it complimented the food wonderfully. The tandori chicken wings are amazing, but they are expensive as hell considering that you probably get 4-5 of them as an appetizer. The nan is wonderfully hot, and tastes like heaven in your mouth. I broke my rule of coming into restaurants in the half hour before they closed, and I could sense that the server was somewhat annoyed. I cant remember exactly what I got, just know it was sometype of red chicken dish. Fantastic...just overpriced. i doubt that I will come back, I dont think Indian food should be this expensive. Hmph.

OK, here is my first review of a place that was basically awful. The wife and I were in a slight rush to make a movie and decided to stay local, we were not in the mood for Mellow Mushroom so we decided to check out Desi. The menu seemed pretty standard and exciting, but I was a bit shocked that rice did not accompany the main courses. We started with the Mulligatawny Soup, then ordered a Vegetable fish and Chicken Tikka Masala. 1) The soup was pretty good, interesting color, but the taste was fairly good. 2) We ordered mix vegetables in a creamy sauce, but there was no sauce. Also the portion which was 7 bucks could feed a chipmunk. 3) The chicken tikka masala was utter garbage. The chicken by itself was actually not dry or over cooked. But the sauce in no way, shape, or form was Masala. It reminded be of sweet and sour chicken from a crappy Chinese takeout on Boulevard ( Maybe Chico and Chang's) 4) Garlic Nan, was good, hence the 1 star In conclusion, I think this place is purely surviving based on its location. People want a bite before a movie so why not. It is like that Thai place, its not good. Lastly, what really got me was not only was the food bad, and the portions small, but it was way over priced! The Chicken was 12.95 and there was only 6-7 bite size chunks in it. Anyone who thinks this place is good has no taste when it comes to Indian food.

Great Indian food and wonderful service all at a reasonable price. I have eaten a lot of Indian food all over Atlanta and Desi Spice is one of the best. I really like the dry vegetable curries and the malai kofta here.

This is BY FAR the worst Indian I've had in Atlanta. For all of those out there who have liked it, you need to take your butts down to Lawrenceville Highway or Church Street and try some REAL Indian food. I've been here 3 or 4 times now and each time I leave, I'm more grossed out than the time before. The first couple times I had the Chicken Tikka Masala. It is a too-bright color of orange-red and disgustingly sweet. They must pour sugar into the sauce to appeal to the white folks who don't know better. Today I switched to the Chicken Korma hoping that would be less sweet and have some spice. NOPE - tasted like it had caramel in the sauce. Plus, they use really fatty dark meat chicken. The only redeeming things to the meal were the naan and the samosas. To add insult to injury, their mango lassi was an unnatural color of orange (think of a construction cone). Ugh, I hope I don't have to go back. It stinks that this is the only Indian in Midtown.

I'm biased...or inexperience, take your pick. But, this was the first time I've ever had Indian food and I enjoyed everything I tried. Great location - in a plaza, towards the back, upstairs, but easy enough to find. Lots of parking so that's not an issue, considering the area it's in. Small, mom and pop type feel atmosphere. I don't know any of the names of anything I tried but i can tell you all was good. I had a spicy chicken and spinach entree, my sister had the chicken curry, a friend ordered the lamb curry, and another ordered the chicken masala. All were good, tasty. The chicken curry and masal weren't spicy, but the chicken with spinach had a good kick to it. Rice doesn't come with any of the entrees we ordered, so we had one order of rice (HUGE!) and had multiple orders of the Naan bread and the Puri bread. Hi-5s on the Puri bread, I could have eaten that all day. Definitely, a place I will try again. Won't be getting the rice, but going with the bread instead.

Great location and I love the cozy vibe of the place. The naan was pillowy and nice. I ordered the Masala tea and came black (without steamed milk). This isn't what I am used for Masala Tea. I frequent the hole in the wall Indian restaurants in Decatur where everyone dining is Indian. The Chicken Tikka Masala at Desi Spice was not spicy or savory. It was okay if you want a sweet tomato sauce instead of an authentic curry. I think this is a very nice spot for a dinner with some friends before or after a show, but I feel that Desi Spice caters much more to the American palette than an Indian palette.

This small indian restaurant held promise to be a jewel of a dining experience. The atmosphere was authentic. The menu proved to be very thorough. The cons of this restaurant were the immediate and constant pestering of the waiter. I was unable to read two items before the waiter came and asked if I was ready for a 6th time literally. The Mango lassi had a weird artificial aftertaste. The food I would give a 5/10. We ordered Mango Lassi, Puri, Bhuna Chicken, Chicken Pakaura, Basmati Rice, and Kurma Shrimp. I've loved Indian Cuisine for a while now and Even began cooking Indian Dishes. I was not impressed maybe they had an off day. I won't be returning.

Boo. I decided to try out my closest Indian joint in hopes that I could bring back my Chicken Tikka Masala Sundays routine. Sadly, it's not gonna happen. I ordered samosas and CTM to-go and when I arrived my food was ready and I received super nice service. Hooray for that! I was a little surprised at the $23 bill. Apparently rice and naan are not included in the posted price... I hate that. Who can eat CTM without basmati rice? I was immediately disheartened when I got home saw that the CTM was so brightly colored, like tandoori. The sauce was super sweet with none of the creamy richness that I love so much. The naan was overly chewy and not very flavorful and the samosas were lackluster. I understand that things aren't typically as good for takeout, but I could tell that none of these dishes were truly quality choices. Despite the closeness, I can't see myself returning to Desi Spice. And that makes me sad. Cause I really want some good CTM closeby.

I really can't understand what everyone is raving about. This is, by far, the WORST Indian food I've ever had. There is more complexity and flavor in the cabbage-n-potato based foods of my Eastern European ancestors than in one spoonful of their sag paneer. I've never had to use salt on Indian food before, and I couldn't help but notice the many depleted shakers at the tables. To my left- an awkward reunion between college kids. To my right- a pregnant woman needing her fix. I overheard both tables discuss the mediocrity of their entrees, which reassured me that I was not alone in my lackluster experience. On the side and for free- any Indian joint that charges an extra dollar for basmati rice is in it for the wrong reasons.

An unfortunate incident involving Indian food at my college's Chow Hall turned me off from this dining category. But my repeated positive experiences at Desi Spice proved to me that Indian food is quite delicious--and my alma mater's cafeteria had no right to call what it was serving Indian food. I always order Desi Spice's lamb tikka masala--lamb hunks cooked in a sweet tomato sauce, served in an enchanting bronze bowl. Too bad rice or naan bread doesn't come with the entrees, requiring diners to order those complementary snackables as sides, racking up the total price. The hot Indian chai tea makes my tummy smile. I don't know that much about Indian food, but Desi Spice turned me into a tikka masala/naan fan, and that should count for something!

I had been wanting to try Desi Spice for a while. Although I haven't eaten that much Indian Food, I do love it...so I treat myself to Desi Spice for lunch today. It's a small little place and it doesn't seat very many people. You can sit where ever you want and they will come and bring you water and take your order. All of this was done in a prompt manner. I had heard good things about the Chicken Tikka Massala so I ordered that lunch special. For starters, I ordered the soup. I am not sure what I was expecting...but I definitely was not expecting them to bring bright red soup to my table. I love trying new things so I was not afraid or turned off by the vibrant color...but the soup did not have any taste what so ever....none...zero....zilch..just no taste....which was disappointing..So on to the next course....when my Entree arrived it was bright red also...again I was not expecting that either. But the chicken was yummy...yes it was a little sweet and I could not see myself eating any more than a lunch portion because of that...but it was very tender and filling. I thought that it would have a little bit of a kick to it....you know...some spice...but it did not. The basmati rice was perfectly cooked though...man I do love rice! Apparently I was supposed to get something that they called Sweets with my lunch...but I never got it. My waiter forgot to bring it out to me and I did not know that I was supposed to get it....but when I realized it it was already too late...I was walking out the door... Like I stated...I am not a avid connoisseur of Indian food...but I did not like this place nearly as much as another place I've tried. I wasn't impressed by Desi Spice. No hard feelings but I don't see myself eating there again. But I'm happy I tried it.

I found the styrofoam arts-and-crafts-day-esque adornments on the wall to be both interesting and perhaps a bit adorable, were they the creations of an owner's son/daughter. There weren't all that many of them, especially relative to all the other more interesting decor, but they did catch my eye a bit. We ordered from teh lunch specials menu, a solid collection of $7 plates. The tikka masala I got was deliciously creamy, and the choice of sides included a well-stuffed samosa. I don't think I cared too much for the curry that Ashley had ordered, but then, I'm not too savvy to a lot of curries to begin with. IT was definitely a cool, tucked away spot for lunch. Maybe a bit *too* tucked away for how much of a hit it is - perhaps with a bit more traffic the owner/manager/cooks wouldnt have to stand against the wall, patiently waiting for you and the one other table to finish their drinks/meal with nothing else to do. That sounds worse than it actually is, I suppose - it was good that they had the time to quickly serve us and take care of our drinks. And yeah, prob makes it easier for them to remember future customers. Anyways, I'd definitely come back - like I said, solid lunch variety that I'm looking forward to exploring a bit more.

My food-gasmic dinner experience at Desi Spice last night (after not having dined there in over a year) has compelled me to reiterate my love for this gem of a restaurant. They have the absolute best garlic naan, chicken tikka masala, lamb kurma and gulab jamun annnnywhere. Pure heaven.

We came here after being too late to get into Green Sprout...It was the nearest place that might have had some tasty stuff open around 10:30. We were very wrong. The food was awful. Lentil soup: no flavor but salt. no texture at all. garlic naan: dry, tough, baigan bharta: ok; so in my experience baigan is always pureed in this dish. we got unpeeled, hardly cooked pieces of eggplant with barely any flavor bhindi masala: oily and burned hunks of okra. also, the server gave us the wrong check after trying to usher us out the door as we were finishing (5 minutes before closing). We could have gotten out paying a $7 tab instead of our actual tab (for three people) but were honest about it. The server was brusque and didn't even thank us for our honesty. This isn't a huge deal, but it just added insult to injury after the food turned out to be horrible. Finally, this place is expensive. Way expensive. And though the portions aren't great, I didn't really want any *more* of it because it was so lacking in flavor. Just give up and head to Decatur for good Indian food, I guess, though I'd love to know of some good options in the midtown area.

This restaurant serves really terrible Indian food. The naan was ridiculously oily and a little bit sweet (why? I don't know). The vegetable curry was strange, overly sweet with only a few discernable vegetables - the most prevalent of which were disintegrating canned green beans. Weird. The chicken masala was NEON red and just okay. Samosas were fine - but served without mint chutney or tamarind sauce, only another bizarrely sweet neon red sauce the likes of which I've never encountered. not that good! We did take-out, and the guy who took our order was very polite - so since courtesy counts, they get 2 stars.

This was my first experience with Indian food. This place was pretty good. Service was a little slow at first. It took a good 15 minutes to get our entrees, the server apologized, and explained that they had "several big orders" just ahead of us. I wasn't in a big hurry though. other than that, the service was very nice, and at times funny, making jokes and being conversational. Beer: I tried two of their "premium indian" beers... the Taj Mahal, and Royal Challenge. Both are large beers, in 650ml bottles. I prefered the taste of the Taj Mahal over the RC. the Royal Challenge was a little too pale. I wanted to try another beer, the Old Monk 10,000 Super beer.. but was told i'd have to come back to try it, as they were out. All of these beers cost $7.95 each. Food: I love spicy food, so after watching Man Vs. Food, and seeing the guy take on a food called "Phal" I wanted some spicy indian. They don't have Phal on the menu here, but I wasn't ready for phal yet, I thought I should start with the vindaloo. They told me that though it wasn't on the menu, if I wanted to try Phal next time, they can make it for me. (Phal is supposedly hotter than vindaloo). I had the Chicken vindaloo, my date had the shirmp Tandoori. both were excellent. You have to order Rice and Bread (Naan) al la carte. I'd got back.. its a cool little Indian dive. Not overly pretentious, and good food! You can dine al fresco if you want, but I knew the vindaloo would be hot enough, without eating it in the Georgia summer evening humidity.

Definitely not the best Indian food around, but not the worst. Desi Spice seems to get all the main flavors right of great Indian dishes, but something is missing... richness and... idk what else it is but's not there. Still though, it's satisfying enough and their lunch is a pretty sweet deal. The atmosphere is great- so cozy and quiet, and if you sit in the back you can really smell the incense. Towards the end of lunch the music got weird and midi-like. Service is fast and friendly. No problems there. Went there for lunch today and got the Lamb Pasanda and Chicken Ceylon. Appetizers: veggie samosa and Indian onion fritters. Regular naan. Naan was just ok. The texture was right and it was definitely naan it was just lacking flavor, butter probably. Don't go to eat Indian food expecting low-fat. I'm not a big fan of samosas- it tasted fine to me, bf loved it. Onion fritters were interesting, and my first time having them. Basically like a Indian hush puppie, but a dark burgundy color and with a thick, sweet dipping sauce. I thought the Chicken Pasanda tasted weird until I remembered I ordered lamb. Oops. The sauce was really good... definitely could have been thicker and creamier though. Chicken ceylon, spicy and not particularly good or bad, but edible. All in all ok. The upside the two lunch specials (1 rice dish + appetizer) and 1 order of naan completely stuffed two people for $18. I didn't have to eat for over 7 hours, and wasn't even that hungry by the time dinner came around. Awesome.

Facts: Paneer tikka masala-- paneer was overfried. Sauce was thinner than what i expected. Overall taste was just bad. Naan-- too stretchy, probably because dough wasn't fresh to begin with. Samosas-- these were good and fresh. Chutney-- just terrible. Both taste and quality was bad. To go packaging-- terrible. Black plastic bag. Poorly wrapped. Paneer tikka masala in a Chinese rice container? Wtf? This place is cheap... Quality is terrible. And this cutting corners that shows up in taste-- just bad experience overall.

I've only gone to Desi Spice for lunch, but every time has been a pleasant experience. The food has been consistently delicious, the service is very attentive and friendly, and the atmosphere is very nice and comfortable. I am no expert on Indian food but I really enjoy their offerings at Desi Spice!

If a restaurant experience could capture the essence of "Meh," it would be Desi Spice Indian Cuisine. While heading over to the Midtown Arts Cinema, I spied this somewhat crappy-looking restaurant, but I've never let decor put me off of a snack, particularly an Indian snack. Some of the UK's best Indian restaurants would win no prizes for decor, and I regularly hit them up for my tandoori nights and naan cravings. Walking in, service was friendly enough and there appeared to be a lunch deal where you could get either mulligatawny soup, onion pakora or samosa, along with a choice of curries served with rice. Prices were around the $7 mark -- perfect for giving it a try without giving my wallet a beat down. First to hit the table were the snacks -- onion pakora for him and samosa for me. The onion pakoras were an unholy blood red for no apparent reason and were judged to be "standard" by my better half. Inexplicably, my samosa included unadvertised peanuts, an addition I've personally never seen in years of samosa snarfing. Sadly my better half is allergic to peanuts, and as I have no urge to kill him (yet) I smacked the samosa out of his hand. Curries (a korma and a ceylon, both chicken) were dry and the sauces pretty unremarkable,. It was served with a huge pile of rice, so at least I didn't leave hungry. The garlic naan was the only thing that was truly yummy. My quest for good Indian food continues. Suggestions?

I came here because it was convenient to my apartment, but I will be back because of the good food and the nice service. The samosas were pretty good, and the vindaloo was exceptionally spicy. I think that the average level of spice is higher here because even my chana masala was pretty spicy. I only have gotten food for takeaway, but the interior seems very nice, and I'd like to stay for some Indian beer sometime.

I don't know what food the other reviewers were eating at Desi Spice but our meal tonight was FABULOUS! Both my boyfriend and myself are picky foodies and we ABSOLUTELY had the best food here tonight. The onion and garlic naan were equally perfectly cooked and flavorful. We also had the chicken samosas appetizer which were wonderfully crispy with a whole piece of chicken breast inside. Ive never had it so good. The lamb pasanda was delicious with perfect spice and thick sauce to top off their special rice and veggie basmati rice. I ordered the tika chicken masala dinner which was also perfectly spiced and cooked. Lots of extra sauce for our rice too. I love that! Then we finished with their special homemade pistachio ice cream dessert. Very flavorful and yummy! I love this new find and we will be going again next week for lunch! THe quality was fresh and great and the people were very sweet. Good service too! Perfect atmosphere when you sit outside on the balcony for dinner. We loved it and normally my boyfriend is extremely hard to please. Bingo all the way.

I ended up here in part two of birthday evening out this year. I'm getting old, y'all, but I'm totally okay with it. Just not the grey hairs that are popping up left & right! My friend loves Desi Spice and had been asking about it for a while. Our original intention was actually to go to Niramish in Little Five Points, but when we arrived, it was closed for a private event. BOO. We went to the Brewhouse for an appetizer & a drink, & to figure out what we wanted to do. Our tummies still dead-set on Indian food, this was the perfect time for my friend to drag me out to Desi Spice. We sat outside, which is always a plus in my book. We were first seated at a four top, but were moved partway through (after receiving drinks & apps). The wait staff were super apologetic and let us know that they'd buy us dessert to make up for it. SWEET! We were stoked, since we're not at all the kind of people who care about something like that & we definitely didn't feel inconvenienced by having to shift to the next table over. We started off with samosas, which were fine, just nothing to write home about. The limited amount of paneer on the menu was a little disheartening...that's my bag, baby! I got a paneer dish...I just can't remember what it was. I think it was a Paneer Tikka Masala? It was fine. Tasted good. The sauce was less creamy than I expected and definitely too sweet for me. I ate it, surely, but again--nothing to write home about. We also got garlic naan, of course, but it also had a kind of strange sweetness to it. When it came time for dessert, we were beyond stuffed, but it was free, so we got it anyway. We ended up with the Gulab Jamun, which is two balls of home-made cheese, deep-fried, then soaked in honey and served with rose water. I chose this, due to my cheese addiction, but it was too much for me. I think it was a combination of just not being into the dish and being full, but we barely touched this. Overall, the food was edible, the atmosphere was nice, and it was a free dinner...thank you friend! Would I go back? If my dining partner were adamant about it, sure. But on my own accord? Nope, I'll go back to my tried-and-true Niramish. I'm blowing kisses their way right this second.

We arrived 20 minutes before closing. We were welcomed warmly by one waiter - told by another they were closed. Took an outside table. Loomed at the wine list - in the mood for something sparking. Decided to order a bottle of Moët and Chandon -- oops -- they stopped selling it a couple of months ago - but they had Andes. ;-( Settled on a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc which was decent and not too unreasonably marked up.

I've visited quite a few Indian places in and around Atlanta. There have been many restaurants that served mouth watering food and very few that haven't served the best food, irrespective of the price of the items. However, when you respectfully comment about the poor quality of the food to a restaurant authority, it is imperative and so happened that the authorities did listen and understand about the issue. I visited this place 3 times and received food that could be given a 1/5 or 2/5 rating invariably in spite of way-above average price. The last time I dined here, I decided to comment about it and upon starting to tell the waiter secretly and he just walked away. After approaching the manager(owner?), she condescendingly said that "Yea, most Indians dont like the food, we can't make every one happy". The reason Indians wouldn't like it is because many of them would know the taste of these dishes and would feel disheartened by the inferior quality of food served. This fell on deaf ears. In any case, the customer needn't be considered God, but they need to be respected atleast for the dollars they are paying. Regarding the food, the last ordered dish was a Bindi dish. The bindi was raw enough to a point of being bitter. The Malai Kofta had been spiced up by adding sambar powder (a spice intended for a totally different dish ) The naan had been uncooked too. Disheartened about the food and service. The order was served within 15 minutes on the last visit though.

Katie W and I enjoyed a night on the patio at Desi Spice after our most recent fitness date. Perusing the menu and wanting to branch out beyond tikka masala and rogan lamb, I asked the server about the bhuna, and was told that it's like Indian Stir Fry - vegetables and flavor without a lot of sauce. We also got one order of rice, one order of garlic naan, and the sag paneer to split. The food was good, though I wouldn't describe the bhuna as stir fry and since it did have only slightly less sauce than the tikka masala (which Katie ordered) The flavor was good, and particularly after all the sides, there was enough for me to take home and enjoy the next day. The naan was a little on the chewy side with lots of delicious roasted garlic flavor. The sag paneer was yummy, and I ended up sopping up all the sauce from it with my naan. Katie let me taste the TM sauce with my naan, and it was bright and slightly sweet. While not what I expected, it was still quite tasty. The service here was SO friendly. The waiter patiently answered our questions, double checked the order, kept the water glasses full, and even reminded me to take my to-go box when he noticed that I'd forgotten it as I was walking away. It was quite a pleasant patio experience. #Yelp365 - 178/365

NOTHING good to say about this Restaurant ... Worst service we ever got in an indian restaurant...we were 5 people went to this place on monday (long weekend). the biryani is not at all taste and haven't given rayitha(usualy comes with biryani) . He charged us 20% gratuity by saying above 50$ we do that and brought check to us which is written in a paper( all items we had along with charges and tax manualy caliculated and gratuity he himself thought to add on what we eat ) . He charged 2$ extra for raitha which is awkward in any indian restuarent. So i can say that strictly to avoid eating at this place.

From the outside, this looks like an average Indian restaurant. After eating dinner there, I have come to share the exciting news that this is an average Indian restaurant! I had the Tikka Masala, the chicken was cooked well, but the sauce was a little too sweet. M'lady had their special lamb dish. It was decent, but was listed as having medium spice and had no spice. The outdoor space is okay, it's a little cramped and you're in a strip mall, but I guess it's better than no outdoor space. I'm glad we didn't have to sit inside, the smell was pretty pungent. The food was a little on the pricey side and it was annoying that there was a dollar surcharge for rice. The naan was fantastic, although I want to bathe in naan, so there's that. Overall, I liked the food and will probably go back if I need food before a movie.

Desi Spice makes the best naan I've had in a long time. Don't come between me and my saag paneer, you'll lose a limb. I love this place, and have been a regular patron for quite some time. It's everything I expect from an Indian restaurant. Flavorful curries, hot vindaloos, delicious flatbreads... The prices are right in line with other Indian restaurants across the city, and the service is impeccable. No, people do not spontaneously break into Bollywood song. It just doesn't happen. Now eat.

Delicious! I had the Lamb Pasanda Special - a lusciously creamy lamb dish (if I remember correctly) and was so happy I ate the entire thing! Not usual, I assure you. It did take some time, but I actually like that. To me it means the food is fresher and I can enjoy a nice slow meal without being rushed out. Sitting on the patio with a view (albeit partial) of the city was the cherry on top!

By far the best Indian we've eatten in the city. Always delicious. The Shrimp puri is one of the best things I've eatten period. We moved from Midtown to Smyrna and still drive down there because it's that good. Now it's the best we've eatten in the city, however we havent eatten in EVeRy Indian resturant on Atlanta. Just a bunch of them!

Deciding to review Desi was tough. I know I'm not the first to have this sort of internal struggle - on the one side, Desi Spice holds such a high rank in my repertoire of neighborhood restaurants! And it's often overlooked, never full, tucked away next to the Independent upstairs from Highlander and Apres Diem. . . But on the other hand, I'd really rather not wait for a table or have my view of Bollywood blocked. But I've started, so let's rip off the bandaid - the food is consistently strong, the Lamb Ceylon is my favorite, the Tandoori delicious, the service charming and friendly. You can linger as long as you like over your huge Taj Mahal beers, but your server is never far away (that might have something to do with the diminutive size of the place). They have a lunch special - under $7 for an app, main course and dessert. It's a great place to sit outside and peoplewatch, or to sit inside and Bollywoodwatch, to the not-subtle scowls and general dismay of the people not facing the television. Overall, great little restaurant.

Well, when they know you by name for a weekly take out order... The review is probably going to be good. We will skip the decor. And by skip, I mean, not acknowledge whatsoever. Not even look at out of the corner of your eye like you do a llama so you don't get spit on. That kind of skip. The food makes me oh so happy. It's the new comfort food of my household. Chicken Vindaloo and Tikka Masalla are our two hits... And the garlic naan. I can't speak to the service other than that my Togo order is always handed to me by a smiling server... And smiling is pretty much all I require ( though be it a lost gesture at most restaurants these days) Yay for Desi! I will point anyone in your delicious savory direction.

This used to be my favorite place in Atlanta to get Indian food, now it is sadly second to cafe Bombay. Still it is mucho fantastique! This place used to be called Touch of India before it moved. There is still a Touch of India in Decatur I think. Try their Onion Bahji -- no one makes it quite this good in my opinion. Their samosa, korma, nan, tarka dal, algo gobi and vegetable curry are all fab. The deserts are pretty good too. Try the family style meals to get a good portion and many selections to try. Good stuff! Great service. not so much: mixed veg. curry is a bit too mixed but ok channa masala -- garbanzo beans are not cooked enough and masala is too bitter

I love Desi Spice. I always enjoy my meal there. I do think it is a bit over-priced for the quantity of food and atmosphere. Until I find something that can compete food-wise, I'll be back frequently.

Desi Spice is a good restaurant. It's got some great perks - the wait staff are all SUPER NICE. Very friendly, they recongnize my husband and I when we walk in. The food is good - not great - but good and consistent. The atmosphere is great and the al fresco dining generally hits the spot. The sag paneer is rich and creamy and so yummy that I dream about it. I think I better run over there right now. Yum! I just wish they would deliver! Of course, if they did, I'd probably never eat anywhere else.

after my 1st experience here, I would've given them 5 stars, but after my 2nd experience here I can only give them 4 stars. My first experience was a complete homerun w/ mutter paneer, aloo paneer, naan, aloo paratha, and basmati rice. I was in heaven. I felt so lucky to have found this place. even my indian b/f liked it, and he knows good indian food. But on my 2nd experience I ordered the chicken tiki masala, and that's where I think I went wrong. This place does veg better than meat dishes. the chicken was super dry. and we also ordered these chicken fritters, which was nothing more than fried chicken fingers w/ too thick breading--would NOT recommend this appetizer. I'm still a fan of this place, just will stick w/ there veg dishes next time. oh and the waiters here are jolly middle-aged men like other reviewers have mentioned, great service. will be back for more of their "perfect buttery naan"!

I love Desi Spice. It is a simple, no-nonsense Northern Indian restaurant. It's not pretentious, and it has a decent selection. We got garlic naan and a couple entrees. The kashmir lamb is a favorite of mine, with it's creamy yogurty curry with fruits. I usually order that and something spicy for a nice balance of sweet and spicy. The spiced tea is delicious.

I love this place! Probably one of my favorite restaurants in midtown. The service is always fast and friendly. The food is great and very consistent. I've ordered carry out and dined in, and have not been let down a single time. Its a little pricey, especially considering the rice does not come with the main dishes, but overall, very much worth it.

I've been here twice and I really like this place. The wait-staff is attentive but not obtrusive and the food is very well prepared. Fried foods aren't too oily and sauces are just right. The people with whom I ate also seemed to really enjoy it.

  • Deanna J.

Crazy amounts of stuff tucked into the Monroe shopping center, including this Indian spot on the second floor. Warning to not sit on the patio if the weather's extra warm, since spicy Indian food and Georgia heat mean for one sweaty meal. Beware that the wine list is extremely limited, too. All in all, a decent meal. And I thank the friends that I went with for letting me steal a lot of their garlic nan.

    (4)
  • Alex K.

In a nutshell, not worth the price. The food lacked the rich experiences of various spices that Indian food should have (flavor was flat). Rice texture was good, yet the flavor was bland. To their defense the chicken was tender. The service was very slow, long wait for food. The naan was OK from a flavor perspective, yet the naan still had clay on the bottom section, making it feel as if one was eating bread with sand (should have been properly cleaned off. I gave them three stars because its not all bad, yet I would not return there.

I'm an indian food lover and checked this place out for lunch. They do have a great lunch deal - choice of meat entree plus a choice of somosa, mulligatawny, or tandoori chicken wing for $8 or so. Naan is not included but very cheap anyway. Review of dishes: 1) Lamb Vindaloo: lamb was tender but flavor of sauce lacked. not spicy enough and not seasoned enough. 2) Chicken Tikka Masala - Sauce was very red and very sweet tasting. Not ideal. Needed to be more savory than sweet. Almost so sweet it was reminiscent of a dessert. 3) Naan bread: undercooked and very doughy 4) Mulligatawny soup: was actually very good. Needed more seasoning but hit the spot. The other scary sign was the place was almost empty when we showed up and dead quiet inside. Not the ideal atmosphere in a restaurant. I hate to leave harsh reviews, but I would say there are a handful of indian restaurants that exceed this one based on my single visit experience. Its tough to dog a place after one visit though...

  • Ashley P.

Definitely an itty bitty hole in the wall type of place, but I kind of love that. From the extremely attentive service to the numerous brightly-colored decorations adorning the place, you can tell that the owners have really put in a lot of effort. So props for that! The food was not the best Indian I've had, but certainly not the worst either. In fact, I very much enjoyed the Tikka Masala. The sauce was much sweeter than I'm accustomed to, but in a good way. The vegetable curry was "eh," but the Tikka Masala was enough to bring me back to try something else. The samosas were a little greasy, but the flavor was good and I was delighted to see so many cool things packed inside! There were all sorts of beans, even peanuts?? Beats the standard potatoes and peas! Now normally, the above would constitute a solid 3 star review from me, but I think the lunch special is definitely worth an extra star. Having read some of the other reviews citing overpricing, I'll definitely be clicking the "Good for: Lunch" box-- You can get an appetizer and an entree with rice for 7-8 bucks, depending on what you order. I can definitely handle that!

  • Laura T.

Had lunch here today. Got the kashmiri special chicken dish - very tasty. Came with basmati rice & a samosa. Really enjoyed it all. My coworker had the tandoori chicken & he really liked it as well. We split an order of garlic naan - very yummy. I think we were supposed to get a "treat of the day" as part of our lunch special, but I think they forgot that part. No biggie. Had lunch for $11 (with tip) so not a bad deal!!

I came for lunch one day and it must have been near closing time for the afternoon as I was the only one in there. I felt like I was bothering the restaurant from watching their afternoon soaps. The food was alright, but I didn't get to eat much of the naan that came out as the person I was with was vegetarian and scarfed down most of the bread. Damn her and not liking delicious animal meat, there's something wrong with vegetarians. Anyways, the meal was quick, the price was okay, and the restaurant itself was tucked away and I wouldn't have found it if I hadn't tripped and fallen down the path near the shopping area.

  • Matt L.

Not too shabby. Wait staff were nice and friendly and did well. The food was good but nothing too spectacular. We did like the Samosas. The one down side was the price. The menu they had online was older and did not reflect the current prices. In other words, for what you got it was about 25 percent overpriced.

The food here is good, the price is okay can be a little better. The best time to go is during lunch hours. I love the Lamb Vindaloo and Chicken Korma. Service is on par as well.

We eat here twice a week. Some think it's overpriced and maybe it is compared to some others but I've tried a few in Atlanta and grew up in D.C where we have the best of everything. This is one of my favorite places to eat..the food is super spicy..I don't know what these other reviews are talking about..Biryani isn't really a spicy dish anyway..but try the vindaloo or ceylon..ask for hot and get some onion chutney..I'd highly recommend the tarka dall also. We love all the vegi dishes here too. The service is great..like a mother trying to fatten you up..our favorite server always puts chutney on the table, and automatically brings us rice pudding. I crave the food here like and addict. I have to have it. I'd recommend trying it again if you think you had a bad experience. It's the bomb!

    (5)
  • Tulie L.

Well it's not all that, the lamb vindaloo was quite disappointing, hardly any lamb for 13.50, and the sauce wasn't even spicy, and when I asked for super spicy the guy looked at me like I was crazy. The lamb naan was ok, but the bread didn't taste like naan much, but more like a flat bread. The Indian food I am used to is super spicy and greasy, and this place was not that at all. Overall dinner was 55.00 for 2 people, I had the naan, mango lassee, vindaloo, and an order of bismatti rice. By northern California standard this place would get a 2-2.5 stars, but since it's in ATL, and it is my first Indian eating experience, I will be more giving.

    (3)
  • Michael M.

After living in San Francisco, I am spoiled by the Indian food I had there. I think Atlanta has great restaurants for whatever reason I have not been able to find great Indian food. Desi is ok. Not great...just not something you crave...so the hunt is still on..if you must have Indian this is OK but thats about it.

Unfortunately, my opinion of Desi Spice has changed and not for the better. Maybe it's because since my last visit I dined at Atlanta's #1 rated Indian restaurant (as rated by Yelpers) and now Desi's doesn't compare. Or it could be that the quality of food at Desi's has declined. Not sure which, not that it matters. This time I ordered my usual favorites: Mango Lassi, Lamb Curry with Basmati Rice and Garlic Naan. Nothing was extremely bad but the food was just really bland. The Lamb Curry needed to be cooked down for longer to intensify its flavor. The Naan didn't taste as good as it looked. It could have used more garlic and another shake or two of salt. Although I didn't enjoy my food I'm giving two stars for the dining experience. Of all the Indian restaurants in town I like Desi's dining setup best. There was a generous balcony area off the front entrance that would be perfect for eating outside on sunny days. Inside, the tables were clean and dressed in rose and white colored cloths. They only had tables so they could easily reconfigure seating for large parties. Everywhere I looked there was something interesting to see. Festive, brightly colored decorations hung from the ceiling. There were cool velvet paintings on the walls. Nearby was a bottle inscribed "Share a Coke with Desi." They even had two flat screen TVs mounted on opposite sides of the dining room so every customer had a view of the Bollywood movie they were playing. The service was extremely attentive, to the point where I wondered if they hadn't mistaken one of us for a celebrity. Several employees stopped by at various intervals during our meal--whether it was to refresh our drinks, drop off our food or to inquire if everything was ok. They made sure we never wanted for anything. Low rating aside, because of the level of service we received I would consider dining at Desi Spice again. Hopefully on my next visit I'll have better things to report about the food.

Chicken tikka masala!!! I can't speak for how authentic it is, because I feel like it is sweeter and milder here than other Indian restaurants I've been to. But it is still so good! It is not spicy, creamy, and very sweet. Wish it was spicy, but I can't get enough of it. Honestly, the other dishes and curries on the menu are good but not great. The garlic naan is my favorite, fluffy and crunchy, with the coconut one as a close second. Go for the lunch special. It's a better deal, and you get dessert. The rice pudding is pretty good, not the best I've had but satisfying. Otherwise, chicken tikka masala with rice and naan for dinner is big enough for me to split with someone else.

Yum Yum Yum. Between everyone in my family, we've probably tried over 75% of the menu with NEVER a sour note. Good solid Indian food!! A great ViHi neighborhood stop! Their lunch prices are very good and on a nice day you can eat outside.

I liked the food, but not the prices. This is your typical restaurant that tries to nickel and dime you on everything. They purposely try to fit an Indian stereotype. Because of their prices, I'm rounding down to 3 stars. We got their Indian dinner for 2. This is a lot of food for 2 people. 2.5 people can probably eat to satisfaction with this. We also ordered the tarka daal with it. The server asked us if we wanted another Naan because we had 3 people instead of 2. He made it sound like there wouldn't be enough naan. So we did. This is another example of them trying to squeeze more money out of you. The dinner for 2 has enough rice and naan for 3 people. Trust me. Do not listen to the servers trying to get you to order extras. Just do that later when you find out you might need more food. They also wanted us to order extra rice because we had 3 people. I'm glad we didn't because that would've been a lot of food. Like I mentioned, the food tasted good. The dinner for 2 came with 2 huge samosas. Again, the server tried to get us to order an extra samosa. Nope, these 2 samosas can be shared with 3 people. They were big enough. I liked it. It was crispy, and I liked the sauce. The rest of the dinner came. The lamb curry tasted good. The lamb was tender and moist. I liked their sauce. We ordered medium spicy, and it had a decent amount of heat. Their kashmir chicken tasted good. It had a sweet taste because of the apples and bananas in the curry. I do think they skimped on the chicken though. I also thought it was too sweet. I loved their taka daal. Daal is one of my favorite Indian items and this didn't disappoint. I loved their strong garlic flavor from the daal. Their veggie bhaji was good too. Their naan tasted good. It's big as a pizza. It comes backed and has nice browning and heat blisters from the oven. It's good naan. The atmosphere looks intimate and romantic. It seems like a good place for a date. You can even watch Bollywood movies on their TVs. They are overpriced, but I like their food.

Amazing service. Food is even better! Their curry is to die for! I will definitely be back. I suggest getting the coconut and/or mango ice cream. Both are so flavorful and dense. The coconut ice cream is packed with coconut shavings.

Kids menu: n/a Kids review: I liked the garlic naan, rice and papadam. Parents review: Bland and expensive. We ordered the chicken tandoori and lamb tikka masala, with a side of basmati, lentils and spinach/potato. The flavors were missing somehow. The lamb dish literally had 6 chunks of really tough meat for $17. The service was kind and attentive, but the food is not very flavorful and way overpriced.

Late writing this review, but this is another one of my old time faves that has since gone downhill. On my last and most recent visit, the food was disgusting. Reheated leftovers.....not fresh at all and watered down. I had chana masala, rice and very much undercooked to nearly raw naan. Just nasty. My friend had chicken tikka masala...her first time eating Indian food so she gave it an ok. Table cloth was covered in nasty food stains. Just all of the low budget, cheap gimmicks pulled out of one hat. Get it together Desi.

Went to Desi Spice early Sunday for dinner. It is a small restaurant in midtown above the Midtown Arts theater. It is a small but quaint place. We decided not to order appetizers and went right to the main courses. I ordered a half tandoori ,chicken, wife ordered a yogurt based lamb pasanda dish. Also ordered Garlic naan and Taj beer. The food came out reasonably fast and was hot. I love the sizzle of the Tandoori! The chicken was a little dry and not as flavorful as some I have had in the past. My wife's dish was very flavorful and went well with the rice. We ordered it medium hot but it seemed mild to me. Naan was very good as well. Service was very good and friendly. They took time to answer questions on the menu. I am not a big fan of Indian food and have gone to only one other in Atlanta. I have been to several others in different cities. I thought it was better than my other experience in Atlanta but not the best I have had. I like the atmosphere and the staff. For that reason I would return. Prices were a little on the high side. $10 for a 22 oz Taj beer was a little high. We spent $60 including tip. Worth a try for Indian cuisine.

Service was great. Food quality was atrocious, nor taste, kind of felt like I was eating a frozen meal. Slightly overpriced as well, most dishes such as the chicken tikka masala does not come with basmati rice.

This place is great! Not too salty, not too oily, just the right spice. We had the saag aloo and the mixed vegetable curry. The saag aloo had a smokey flavor that was different. Good, but... Different. However, the vegetable curry was so rich and delicious! They do charge $1 per pappadum, which is a turn off, but the service was very pleasant and gracious. I'm glad we tried this place, it's now one of my favorites of Atlanta.

Service here is great and I absolutely love the atmosphere. It's a small restaurant but well worth trying. The first time I ever had Indian food was at this restaurant and I was not disappointed! Try their mango Icecream it's homemade and so creamy.

Although the atmosphere is not the most upscale the food is amazing! I have tried more than a handful of their dishes and I have yet to try one that I dislike. The owners & works are nice and even made my wife a customized dish not on the menu. Great food & close to a theater for a fun date night!

I ordered take out here at Desi Spice. I enjoyed the service that I received here even for take out. They took care of me and I got my food promptly. My only gripe is that their chicken tikka marsala is too sweet. It taste like I was eating candy curry. Other than the food, their service is good. I'll have to try out other dishes instead.

Walked over here last night, and was pleasantly surprised! We got the Vindaloos and Dhansak, saffron rice, and garlic naan. I gotta say that it was nowhere near as spicy as I expected; we'll be more confident in our spice handling abilities next time! The garlic naan was delicious, the saffron rice was excellent (and my date doesn't even normally eat rice), and the chicken was delicious. Not sure what else to say - this was a great experience and we will be back.

Decent indian food, but not amazing. Service was good. Probably a 3.5 star place, rather than 3, but 1/2 stars are not an option. They keep the temperature fairly hot at the place, prolly around 78-80F, which is probably not the best for spicy food, although there is some authenticity to it. I had the chicken curry with samosas

Now eat.

Not terrible but I had better. I agree with all the review that said that is a little over price.

    (3)

  • Dina C.

    (2)

After living in San Francisco, I am spoiled by the Indian food I had there. I think Atlanta has great restaurants for whatever reason I have not been able to find great Indian food. Desi is ok. Not great...just not something you crave...so the hunt is still on..if you must have Indian this is OK but thats about it.

usually overpriced comes with extra large portion but that's not the case here. so if you have a big appetite like me you'll eat all of it and wonder why it costs so much. and why does rice cost extra with most of the meals?

Service here is great and I absolutely love the atmosphere. It's a small restaurant but well worth trying. The first time I ever had Indian food was at this restaurant and I was not disappointed! Try their mango Icecream it's homemade and so creamy.

Went there for lunch on a quiet day. Restaurant is small but service was great. More importantly, the food was flavorful. I would recommend to others that are wanting to eat indian food.

Seriously.

Some of the best Indian food around, and in a great location. The Ceylon is delicious.

I often recommend it to friends that ask about Indian restaurants in the Atlanta area.

after my 1st experience here, I would've given them 5 stars, but after my 2nd experience here I can only give them 4 stars.

This is what we got for paying 15$ for the paneer tikka and 10$ for dal.. Atrocious price for the quantity and when asked about the quantity provided.
