Peking continues to satisfy! I just got back from a long road trip and didn't feel like cooking. Delivery was just what I needed. I always get the same thing - creature of habit - but tried the veggie fried rice tonight. It was very tasty. As always there's plenty for leftovers tomorrow too. The lady over the phone was polite and efficient. The driver was very nice and much earlier than the 45 min window they gave me. I will continue to order from Peking. Very good.

My mom came into town for a visit and we always have Chinese food. Having decided to try something new, we ordered from Peking Dinner. Never. Again. Both of our meals included soggy, tough chicken and overly-thin sauce. Their one saving grace was their fried rice; it was excellent. Unfortunately, my mother and I did not pay almost $50 for fried rice. Overall, a disappointment. Now we're both miserable with stomach aches. Thanks for ruining our night Peking. If you have the choice, choose another restaurant.

I ordered the Mongolian beef which came with one egg roll and a cup of egg drop soup. The beef was tough and very hard to chew. The egg drop soup was bland and the egg roll was very small. Very dissapointing meal. I probably will never go back.

The food was meh...imo if your won ton is lacking that's a sure sign I wont try anything again. The lo mein was also lacking ..but the main, larger problem was the person who took my order via phone was rude, I attributed it to being busy...but when I got there they were dead, and the guy who rang me up was still a jerk.

Best San Shan soup I've ever had! Loaded with shrimp, scallops and REAL crab meat! The pork with black mushrooms had a deliciously savory flavor. I asked for the chef to make it spicy and it was just the right amount of heat. I'm happy.

The best option for Chinese buffet in Athens. Crab Rangoon and veggie lo mein are my favorites on the buffet.

This is the ONLY location of Peking you should be going to. The East Side location used to be really great, but not so much in the last five years. Now, this is the only one worth frequenting. Peking is my Athens staple. If I am in town and don't go to Peking, it doesn't feel like I've eaten well. I love so many of their dishes, it is easy to go for the menu, or the lunch buffet. Sizzling Rice Soup is a MUST if you are ordering from the menu. So is their Sweet and Sour chicken. I am also a big fan of the Snow White Chicken and Peking Shrimp as well. Their egg rolls are almost always freshly cooked and delicious. BIG TIP HERE: Everyone does NOT need to order their own dish, nor do you need to order the "Dinner For a Group" offerings on the menu. Each dish will easily feed two people with the rice that accompanies it. When we have four people we get two dishes and soup and very often end up with leftovers. Which are still delicious but if six people order six dishes, that is a LOT of food. Just a word of caution.

This is by far my favorite Chinese place to eat. Lunch time buffet is the time to eat for variety. Dinner always has more food than I can eat. Rangoons are the best.

Peking is a huge restaurant, which clearly has seen better days. It is dark and delipitated inside, the servers are fairly rude, and the food was absolutely terrible. I cannot believe that anyone can insider this acceptable, let alone good Chinese food (or they might have had a different chef). This place makes Panda Express look gourmet!

This place was great for lunch! Make sure to try the general's chicken if you have the buffet. I think it's hand breaded, and the sauce is so good! I will definitely return...

I have been eating at this resto for almost 35 years. Unfortunately, when Peter and his family sold the restaurant, it has never been the same. The quality of the food is mediocre, at best, the decor is run down. The food is so sugary sweet and floats in pools of grease! They are completely inflexible about substitutions and nickel and dime you to death. $.25 charge for each little 1 oz side of sweet sour sauce is ridiculous! .99 delivery charge? Seriously? I guess the buffet keeps the place alive, but who knows? The manager is so rude. That's not good!

My family and I stopped at Peking after we visited UGA's campus. We just came from a week's vacation from from Nashville, Tennessee. I found this place on our GPS and picked this restaurant mainly because of the unique name. The GPS said there was more than one restaurant with this name. We had to go around Epps Bridge but I saw the place as we went around. Only one customer was inside and the waitress was steady conversating. We were waiting on by someone else immediately by the owner(?). The menu had a lot of choices for those who wanted entries to selected family meals for one price. Buffet wasn't available for dinner. I ordered Orange chicken fried rice which came with scrambled egg and veggies mixed in. I thought the food would be like any other made to order restaurant but no. Hot Tea was served with the meal as well as your choice of beverage. The rice came first to the table and soon after the first two dishes. And mine came 3mins after but we shared plates. My dad ordered pepper steak and my mom ordered Peking Beef with shredded cabbage. The onions in the pepper steak were yummy and crisp. The Peking Beef was deliciously sweet but had a little after taste but still really good. My orange chicken came out beautifully and very gourmet looking...crunch cabbage. This food is filling but still light on the tummy (big portions for $9.00). The manager came by often to see how everything was. I will definitely come back again and even add them to my future take out list.

We've lived in Athens for 3 years and have gone without Chinese for a good six plus months now ever since the quality at Golden Sun over on the east side went downhill. A number of my Korean friends and another friend who is a long time Athenian recommended Peking. We finally got around to ordering (thank you Bulldawgfood.com !) and picked up some crab rangoons, pot stickers, and chicken fried rice. Oh, Peking, where have you been my whole...life? These are the best pot stickers I've ever had, seriously. They're not your run of the mill, slimey, pork filled dumplings that are quick steamed or pan fried. These beauties are golden crispy and bursting with rich flavor. The crab rangoons were absolutely delicious. The chicken fried rice wasn't anything to write home about, but it hit the spot. I will say that the portion was enormous. It fed my husband dinner the first night, both of us the second night, and I still had some left over for lunch on day 3. Looking forward to trying some Mongolian beef next time (and get some more of those damn pot stickers...they're haunting my dreams now).

This place had a weird way of getting to it, especially if you're heading from downtown Athens to the Peking Restaurant (you have to do a weird u-turn). But enough about DIRECTIONS...let me start on the food. I haven't been here for dinner but I came here on a weekday for the lunch buffet. For less than $10 a person, you get a soda and all you can eat typical Chinese food. Yes there's mongolian beef, yes there's general tsao chicken, yes there's sweet and sour blah blah blah. I thought the food tasted pretty typical of your average Chinese food...nothing to brag about but nothing to dislike about it either. If you're looking for you're typical all you can eat Chinese buffet, there ARE better ones out there but for Athens, this is as good as it gets.

I grew up going to this restaurant my whole life. When I was younger this place seemed clean and delicious. Oh how times change. The cleanliness of this place has taken a turn for the worst I'm afraid. All culminating in my last meal from Peking. I brought home a dinner for 3 for my family. We get into it and begin to devour the food, and about half way through my Mongolian Beef I look down to see half a roach's dead body blended in nicely with my beef. I immediately went to the bathroom to throw up, god I hope I hadn't eaten the other half. I get sick just thinking about it now. Needless to say we will not be returning. This establishment has sanitary pest issues, eat at your own risk.

I've been eating her for 20+ years, and I still think it's the BEST "chinese" food around! It's what I compare every other chinese place to. I love their potstickers, mongolian chicken with broccoli, honey chicken, vegetable dishes, etc. You get the best deal if you order for lunch.

This place has been here for years and is looking pretty tired. Nevertheless, serves up pretty good Chinese fair with a well-priced lunch buffet featuring most of the classics you've come to expect. Always thought it was good after a night on the town.

Hmm, I'm thinking Lindsay may be being a wee bit harsh in her review. I had the Five Ingredient Beef (I think that's what it was called) which was sort of like Kung Pao with a bunch of veggies and no peanuts. The rice was so-so (not very sticky), but the dish itself was fine (nicely spicy, and it came on a GIANT platter, so large that you will always have left-overs). The hot tea was passable as well. It wasn't the best Chinese food on earth or anything, but thus far, I haven't found any really good Chinese food in Athens. So, for now, A-OK. I'd give it 2.5 stars if such a thing existed.

A kind of institution--it predates the road work that has placed it in an odd place if you are coming from downtown (but very easy from Epps Bridge). I try to stop here once a year when I'm visiting my folks for the lunch buffet. The large buffet (four steam tables worth) is only $7-ish and that includes a drink. Nothing mind-blowing but all competently done and regularly restocked throughout lunch. The one real standout is the hot and sour soup--something that may be easily overlooked on the buffet. Green beans are also quite good. I think I've seen the same waiters for three years in a row. The owning family seems pretty nice.

Peking could use a face lift, but the food is consistent and better than most strip mall take out places. Portions are big and prices reasonable. Don't expect memorable service (good or bad). Do check out the lunch buffet as it's of higher quality than other local Chinese buffets even if the selection is somewhat less (but who needs chicken fingers and hot wings at a Chinese restaurant?). The couple at the front desk will make you feel like a valued customer. Try it...

I've been eating at Peking since they were a small hole in the wall on Barnett Shoals Rd. The food has always been a cut above the standard American Chinese with fresh vegetables and interesting menu items. They purchased this location and did a stunning renovation and all was well I think until the city put in Epps Bridge Parkway and made it darned near impossible to get to Peking, especially coming from town. Now I'm afraid they are having to cut corners on the food to stay alive and we've tried to be loyal, but the quality is now widely variable. I still love that they have a spinach and tofu soup and other vegetable options, but we have stopped ordering other meals. Talk to your server and ask what is best. I wish the city could relocate them since I'm sure they will not make it when you have to drive a mile past, through a confusing intersection and do a U-turn to get to their drive.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
