GREAT FOOD. Prices are average, but they really skimp you on rice and beans. I have had to send food back several times because there were no beans on the plate. One time, waitress takes my plate back to the kitchen and comes back, puts it on my table and says, "Manager says the beans are under the burrito." I lifted the burrito with my fork and said, "I must be blind or is this a grey/clear film - no a plate of beans." I want to give this place a 5 star because the food is so GREAT. If they start giving you more rice and beans like some other places, it will be five stars for sure.

I continue to be pleased with my subsequent visits to La Cocina. And despite Donna's lack of culinary experience, most likely limited to funnel cakes and fish sticks, opinions are what they are and I post them, at least in this situation to hope for improvement for purely selfish reasons - I want my local Mexican Restaurant to get better! Get over yourself sweetcheeks. I am kind, by no stretch of the imagination a Brookstone yuppie - more of an outcast, always tip 20% when deserved and am willing to give any local establishment a second (or third, or more) chance to impress. (Would I rather stay close? Of course!!!) I of all people know that we all have our bad days... I still have no love for the old bartenders that still lurk, glaring, just waiting to mess up my order, but I am willing to give the margaritas another go, even if they may want to spit in my drink. ;-) Anyway, I do like the convenience of La Cocina and their ever improving customer service and I'm still a sucker for their Fajita's for 2....or three or more!

I've been to this resteraunt many times becuase it's so close to my house. The quality of their food has been on a steady decline. The 2nd to the last time I went there the ground beef in my tacos tasted "old" (that's the kindest word I can use). I vowed never to go back. Then a group of friends all wanted to go there. I hadn't been for weeks but agreed to give them one more shot. Again, the beef tasted "bad". I can only assume that it's because they cook it in large quantities and then serve it for days on end until it's gone. And that's the best case scenerio in my mind. I would have given La Cocina a single star, but it is a fun place. There is live music on the weekends and the staff is friendly.

It's a decent neighborhood Mexican joint. The drinks have been good each time we tried them, though not the best in the neighborhood. The food is fairly priced and tasty. One of my favs is their fish taco's. The best dishes that we have tried involved a generous coating of cheese sauce- it just seems to take the dish to another level. We go when we're in the neighborhood- I wouldn't drive across town for it, but will go a bit out of my way to eat here.

Great chips & salsa! A few items are good however others not so good? I recommend the chimichanga. Average prices. I love using coupons & never get any for here.

Very mediocre food. Service was poor. I ordered a chili rellano and received a slimy green chili with some shredded chicken piled on top. Not what I ordered.

We didn't even finish the cheese dip. Not a fan of this place.

Another place difficult to rate because I didnt know how to blend the food vs other things. Had an appointment at the eye doctor next door, so decided to drop in for lunch. Pretty standard decor...murals and metal sculptures. It was pretty quiet (but it was 2:00 - not a peak time), so I got seated quickly. The staff was very friendly and prompt. The food was ok...pretty typical of Mexican restaurants...not haute cuisine, but good, filling food. Not as spicy as I like, but that is personal preference. Lunch specials are amazing. For $5.85 I got a cheese enchilada...it was small, but full of a nice Monterey Jack cheese in a corn tortilla. Also got Mexican rice (pretty standard) and a large beef enchilada in a flour tortilla which was absolutely full of beef. A nice sprinkling of cheese and sauce on top...it wasn't swimming in it, which is good...too many Mexican restaurants hide their food under tasteless tomato sauces. For that price, you also got your drink, which is a real bargain. The chips were warm, thin, and crisp...but I think the salsa could be a little spicier...again, a matter of personal taste. Good things I noticed that were not food related...but really important to me and the reason why I bumped this to 4 stars when the food only deserved a 2-1/2 or 3...were: (1) It was not a peak lunchtime, but the plentiful staff, instead of just standing around talking or texting on their cell phones, were all busy cleaning and polishing everything in the place...everything was sparkling clean. (2) They do not recycle their chips (yes, I have seen it done in MANY Mexican restaurants...dumping chips back into the containers when they are cleared off a table...UGH!). I saw the employees here throw out baskets of "leftover" chips. And the container where the chips are is within sight...so you see you're getting fresh chips each time. (3) the pitchers of tea and water were on a cart and, get this...I wish more restaurants would do it...were covered tightly with foil! I think that is an absolutely wonderful idea and I was very impressed with it! Goes to show you that cleanliness is important to them! Way to go!! So, even though it may not have been as spicy as I like or as "authentic" as "real" Mexican food (but what Mexican restaurant this far from Mexico actually has "real" Mexican food...we're a long way from the border!), I will go back. I would say 2-1/2 to 3 stars for food and 5 stars for cleanliness and staff...so I rounded it to 4!

I don't know way I continue to give this place a chance when there are better options nearby. The service is always sub par along with the food. The bar is a joke and there are really not any well trained bartenders in the place. The food is mediocre but can get pricey if your not careful. Just had lunch. I order 3 grilled chicken soft tacos. 3 al carte tacos were $6.50 on the menu. Now I know I will pay more for grilled chicken. It use to be $2.00 more. I now got charged $10.75 for three tacos. I also order a small side of tomatillo sauce for which I was charged $1.15 for a small side of basically salsa. I could have order the chicken tacos al carbon and gotten three grilled chicken tacos along with rice and beans and some fixings for $10.25. I won't make that mistake again because after numerous times here its always something. Do yourself a favor and drive 5 extra minutes to the Mexican joints on Cobb Parkway or Los Magueys. The only reason this place stays in business is because folks in the adjacent neighborhoods are to lazy to drive someplace else. Which is fine. But if you want good food and good service pick a different place.

Had lunch here today while in town. HUGELY dissapointed! This place has been here for years and I never tried it before. Maybe I'm just bias, since I do live in California near the Mexico boarder, but this was NOT mexican food! This was slightly better than fast-food Taco Bell! The "burrito" was an enchillada, and had alfredo sauce over it! I was confused, was this mexican or italian? The pork was ok, but a burrito is supposed to be picked up. They did give chips right away, but the "salsa" that came with the chips was more like flavored tomato sauce. Pretty bad. Pace would have been better! The service was exceptionally prompt, but it was Sunday at 11:30am and there was only one other table in there, given the lack of patrons, it was what was expected. I would not recommend it to anyone who wants decent mexican food.

My family eats here about once a month. Very good consistent food and service. Pricing is fair too.

If your interest in great Mexican restaurant that has more than the "standard" Mexican fare, then La Cocina is the place to go. The service is way above normal and it is very family friendly. There is usually a wait on the weekends, but they expanding and adding a patio. This would be a great place to celebrate Cinco de Mayo.

I came here with my Mum and Dad after deciding to have Mexican for lunch. We were greeted by a hostess at the door and promptly got seated. The requisite chips and salsa came out and we'd snacked on that. We had a nice, bubbly server who was, coincidentally, from the Tampa Bay area. She took our drink orders: I'd wanted horchata (before looking at the menu, mind, to discover they don't have it) but elected to have a peach smoothie, my Mum had a strawberry/pineapple smoothie and my Dad, a strawberry/mango smoothie. A little while later the beverages came out and we worked on those. I like that the restaurant manager and server aides all came at various times during our meal to make sure everything was fine and that we'd been seen/served. I ended up having a chicken and cheese quesadilla (that wasn't sliced, but it was still delicious), Dad had a pork enchilada (which he devoured) and Mum a Veggie Combo #6, which included a spinach enchilada, beans and a guacamole salad (she said the guacamole salad tasted a bit odd, but on a whole she enjoyed the experience). We got refills on the nachos, though regrettably couldn't finish it, and we'd left. The only thing I'd like to have better is that the booth seats be secured better. Mum and I both mis-sat because the seats shifted backward, but hadn't fallen.

Great food! We had dinner. It was a Friday night (7:15), so we had to wait at least 30 minutes...I was really hoping that Lori B. knew what she was talking about. I had Chicken Verde Enchiladas and they were really, really good. I got 3 (large) enchiladas for $7.50, my husband got the Supreme Combination Dinner and he literally got one of everything. Three plates of food! He thought it was sooo good. He liked that every single thing tasted different. It was almost $11, but it was a ton of food. The server was attentive. There was live music too. It was one guy, with a guitar...but his voice was pleasant and it really added to the charm of the place.

This is our all time favorite mexican restaurant. Someone recommended their fish tacos to us. I am not a fish kind of person but I decided to step out of my box and order the fish tacos. WOW! They were awesome! I had to go back on Monday for kids eat free and get some more. Again they were great. The kids have a great time coloring, getting a balloon and some teddy grahams. Highly recommend La Cocina!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
