We are snowbirds and have been coming to Zephyrhills for 13 years. I never knew about this place until my husband told me a couple people told him about it. This is one of those same resturants that generally only locals know about it. We went there on a Monday evening and we were very happy we did. The salsa and chips were good and we were very satisfied with our meals. We will come here again. Great atmosphere and good prices. I would recommend this place to others.

I was in Florida on vacation a few months ago and was visiting my parents. I was craving Mexican so I found this place in Zephyrhills. A group of about 6 of us came here as it had better reviews than other Mexican places in the area. The services was okay.....the food was good. But what stunned me is that they charge $1 for a chips/salsa refill. I mean, really?? Who does that!? The certainly cost them a star or two in my review. I'd probably go back here for dinner as the food wasn't bad. But I think it's ridiculous to charge for chip refills.

This is the BEST Mexican restaurant in the entire area of Zephyrhills or Dade City! The food is authentic Mexican cuisine, cooked fresh to order, with good portion sizes. I could make a meal out of just the refried beans and rice because they're soooo good! If you get a chance, you've got to give them a try, you won't be disappointed!!

Pleasantly surprised! The outside is deceiving. Had enchilada and chile relleano. Hubbie had a burrito. If you want extra chips and salsa, be prepared to pay for extra. The food wasn't bad. It wasn't spectacular either.

Formerly El Panchos Villa, Los Chicos is by far the best Mexican food you will find in Zephyrhills. It is the definition of a "hole in the wall" restaurant. It is located behind Raymond B. Stewart Middle School on 11th Ave. You can choose between sitting inside or on the screened patio. The patio is great in the fall when a nice breeze might come through and it's not too unbearably humid outside. Your meal begins with a bowl of fresh salsa and crunchy tortilla chips. My favorite dish is the chimichanga dinner. It comes with rice and refried beans as your sides. If I'm trying to eat healthy, I go with the chicken fajita meat. They will serve it without any veggies or tortillas if you request it. I recommend the 2 for $5 margaritas as well! Honestly, you can't go wrong with anything you pick at Los Chicos. I have never had a bad meal here! I will say the one down side is there are no free refills on drinks; they serve soda in cans. Do yourself a favor and try out Los Chicos. The service is impeccable and the food is worth the trip.

Los Chico was a great place to eat , we used to come here all the time but the last couple months something has been off with the food , it's not the same , we haven't seen the owner lately so we don't know if he sold out or what , the original servers are good but a few of them lack in the service area ,I hope it gets back to the way it was and dust a few dust bunnies from the torn decor and gets back to the great Mexican restaurant we loved so much till then I'll give 2 stars , I'm sorry

Super authentic Mexican food! Formerly ponchos villa owners now we are the lucky visitors of Los Chicos. Best fajitas and burrito ranchero you will ever put in your mouth!!! This is a must try for anyone that loves Mexican.

Being from California where the best Mexican food lives, I enjoyed Los Chicos. The look and music was spot on. The chips and salsa were on point and I asked for a couple jalapeños to be fried and they knew what I talking about.

They closed off the patio and now it all has AC. They look like they needed the extra space as they have more customers.

The atmosphere is cozy with authentic mexican theme. The salsa has more cilantro than needed . I ordered the enchiladas one bean and one cheese with no sauce. When my enchiladas arrived they where smothered in an extremely sweet enchilada sauce that was not edible or appetizing .After watching our waitress walk by our table finally another lady who was bussing tables came up to our table and asked about our food , as my husband 's had the same sweet sauce on his as well , she informed us of 2 other sauces . Now as we have eaten at various mexican restaurant' s across the country this is the first time we had experienced this. So we decided not to send them back and be disappointed again. As far as ratings go if you like sweet and lots of cilantro then you will love it! If not stay away it is not authentic mexican cuisine. BTW they also charge for refills of chips and cilantro salsa!

I'm starting to think Zephyrhills is the best place to build foodie havens: low rent, few chains, and plenty of parking. Los Chicos certainly deserves a spot on any foodie's Zephyrhills list. Their nopales con huevo lunch is under $7, vegetarian (I'm not asking how the beans and rice were cooked), and delicious. And there are outlets at many booths for you to recharge your Yelping devices. We had no trouble finding parking, even shortly after noon on a Sunday, and the lunch specials run on the weekend as well. There were five different hot sauces to choose from, though I preferred the cilantro-rich fresh salsa brought to the table when we arrived. Since Stephanie D. mentioned roughly how much seating there is, I counted. I saw 9 booths and 5 tables. Definitely.

Authentic Mexican food! Absolutely delicious! Enchiladas Rancheros with shredded beef was incredible...chips are thin and crispy and anything my husband and I have ever ordered has been very fresh...definitely a hidden gem :)

Had lunch, enchilada and burrito. Sauce on enchilada is a little on the sweet side. Salsa is not bad, could be more hot for my taste. I thought the plate could use a little more beans and rice. Overall ok

We weren't sure if we wanted to stay when we first pulled up... The place is incredibly tiny. Seriously, I don't think I've ever seen a smaller sit down restaurant. When we got inside, we were greeted and served promptly, the customer service was wonderful, and it was cute and cozy inside. It actually didn't feel as small as it looks once you get seated. The food was amazing, we started with chips and cheese dip, and the cook actually brought out a few samples of cheese to choose from. Definitely get the white. I had the lunch combo, enchilada and burrito. It was a decent amount of good, tasted perfect, and came with plenty of extra beans and cheese for scooping with the extra tortilla chips. We will definitely be back often.

The tamale sauce was too sweet. Tasted more like Mole than tamale sauce. Enchilada Verdes was good.

This place makes cruise ship bathrooms look big. I think there are seven or eight tables in the whole 500 sq ft place BUT what they lack in space they make up for in ah-ma-zing mexican food. Cheesy, beeny, beefy (or chickeny or veggie if that's what you prefer) and melded together inside a warm tortilla. We can't eat here everyday but we go as often as possible. We've had the floutas, enchiladas, burritos, guacamole salad, flan and chicken soup which were all fresh and a delight to eat. The staff don't all speak English but knowing Espanol is not a requirement of stopping by. Our waitress has always been easy to communicate with and the rest of the staff give us big smiles and we talk in the universal language of laughter and wolfing down our food. As I mentioned, tiny place, but adorable and covered in murals of beautiful senoritas in the dessert sun. The table tops are Mexican blankets with acrylic covers and sombreros hang on the windows. Outside there are only a few parking spots and the place looks like somewhere you'd hitch up your horse until the wagons are ready to leave again. Bottom line, you'll feel like you're in the middle of nowhere but just order and then thank me. You've found a hidden gem and won't be sorry.

Excellent service and the most consistent Mexican food I have ever had. This place is a hole in the wall but so authentic. The salsa, hot and mild is to die for. We are foodies, and are a bit picky when it comes to dining out. This place is five stars.

Stopped here for dinner over April Vacation. We came in pretty close to closing and they still served us excellent food. I am a fairly picky eater and ordered a safe meal of nachos. My boyfriend ordered lingua with sides that he initially wasn't sure that he liked but warmed up to as he finished his meal. Atmosphere and food choices were authentic and service was great especially given that we stopped in so close to closing.

Went to Lunch Today on 3/12/2015 and wound up at Los Chicos in Zephyrhills,Fl. It wasn't really crowded so service was speedy . I had the Beef Flauta which was a flour tortilla stuffed with ground seasoned beef , Not made like a typical Flauta but acceptable as flavors were good. Flauta was garnished with Pico de Gallo , Guacamole on the runny side , and Sour cream . Rice and beans were also part of the meal but too little a portion leaving you wanting more ( come on guys latinos love rice and beans so give more it is cheap ) . To top off the meal had deep fried Ice cream with whipped cream and a cherry to top it off . Unfortunately the oil used to fry the ice cream was burnt and it tasted burnt . Something that could have been delicious was made to be OK only . I read so many reviews before going there but in all honesty it is just a cheap regular place and not as fabulous as I was led to expect. I may give it another chance at dinner one day soon to see if their management actually reads these reviews and correct the issues I noted and if not a more gourmet review will follow . I have cooked for 30+ years in NYC and really know my food and when I review it comes from the reality of what was served . Prices were reasonable in that with tip I spent $17.00 . I should have gone to Taco Bell maybe it could have been better . Sorry guys but Los Chicos left me Hanging !

This restaurant used to be called El Panchos Villa. They got a new name and a new location, but the food is still the very best Mexican food in Zephyrhills, and one of the best in the entire Tampabay area. I do not know the owners family history, but at one time, their family had many restaurants around the Central Florida area. I do not know the particular spices they infuse their food with, but once you have had it, you will always recognize it. My wife and I stopped at a Restaurant on the way to Orlando one time, and we knew as soon as we walked in, that it was owned by one of their family members. It's that distinctive. When we lived in New Tampa, we would go up to San Antonio to Pancho's Villa Mexican Restaurant. After we moved to Plant City, it was just too far of a drive just for dinner more then occasionally. We were both glad when the El Panchos Villa opened in Zephyrhills. Then it closed, and we didn't realize that this new place was the same people. Glad we found out. Some of the things that always stand out, are their refried beans. Like all their food, they have a very savory smokey flavor that is delicious. You can tell these beans were made with love. They have simply the best salsa of any Mexican place I have ever tried. My wife and I get the mild (we are wimps I know), but it is so fresh with the tiniest hint of spice. We have both literally eaten it with a spoon. We never leave without getting some to take home to eat with chips or to cook with. My favorite dish is the shredded beef enchiladas. I almost always get that, but the fajita's are amazing too. My wife loves a cactus and pork dish with Verde sauce that they make, but it's very spicy. I have seen her eat it with tears and sweat running down her cheeks, but she keeps eating it because she says it tastes so good. I can't imagine you eating here and not liking it.

Excellent Mexican food! ! Very small place, filled up quick but very good food. Flouta and soft taco I had were very satisfying. I was amazed at the amount of meat that came with the fajitas, he tried the mix chicken and steak.

Pretty good food. Exactly like what they used to serve at Pancho's Villa, except a bit smaller looking than I remember (not necessarily a bad thing). The waitress there is a bit brusque, but she does a competent job.

Great food, great prices, great service! Another small, casual, hole in the wall place that I love! We eat there on a regular basis. Not too many tables, but they have enclosed and air-conditioned their porch which adds additional seating. Plus there are a couple of large tables on the porch to accommodate larger parties. They usually have margaritas 2 for $5 which are delish! My favorite meal is the chimichanga but everything I've ever had there is good. Plus their homemade (complimentary) chips & salsa are the best! Try this place out!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
